She's passionate about teaching and is very knowledgeable about science/the environment, and I think that's what makes her class interesting. I learned a lot. She tries to get to know her students, and her tests are VERY easy. She covers lots of info, but the tests are NOT hard AT ALL if you just study a little. She gives quizzes for bonus points.

People complain that she goes a little too fast in class, but she puts the powerpoints online, which is what I used to study for the tests. You don't even need to take too many notes in class. She tells you certain things will be on the test, and that's all I really wrote down. Other than that, just study the bold words on the powerpoint.

I absolutely loved her. I almost dropped it the 1st day b/c she takes a basic Science 1102 class too seriously but she really loves it and made the subject extremely interesting! She does have tons of powerpoint slides but she will give you test questions during the lecture & all questions on powerpoint in a different color u need to study & know!

Teacher is tough but fair. Expects a lot from students. Enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. Very willing to help out students between classes. Class was full of powerpoints and videos. Tests were multiple-choice. Expect to spend time studying, but to learn a lot.

Very organized and interesting. She did offer one extra credit assignment as well as few in class quizes for extra points(you won't know it unless you come to class). She does cover a lot of material but everything you need is on PPT. I did not have a book and did well just reviewing her notes. Very helpful. Does not check attendance.

Boring class but super easy. She likes Science but I am just required to take it and listen. Study the powerpoints VERBATIM and you have an A. Pure memorization.

She is Buffy in that perky lil way (had Buffy been a teacher). Tough because of the memorizing. Loves her subject! Sometimes boring and she goes soo fast. She tries hard to get smiles out of you in a fledgling stand-up comic way. But, she is just cuteness though. Memorize those mega powerpoints and you will be just fine.

I had her for an 8am Saturday class that seemed to drag on. I don't think she made the subject very intereseting, but she was spunky. Her tests were tough, she taught from her PPTs and the book, but her layout gave me a hard time. 3 tests made up of multiple choice, fill in the blank, matching, and very confusing T/F. Nice lady though.

I was not happy about science class being mandatory for all students but I really enjoyed this one. It is challenging but very interesting. Lots of material to memorize but just study the powerpoints and labs. Extra credit does not give you too many points so you need to do well on the exams. Very nice teacher. She does want you to do well.

She's a great teacher who's very helpful and cares about her students. There's a lot of material, but she gave me help when I asked for it. I'm a C-Average student and got an A in this class. I learned a lot about science. If you study, you'll get an A.

Everything you need to know for the test is on power point and labs. She also may ask some questions about movies that you'll watch in class. I didn't have book and did not take notes. It helps though to come to class because she gives few quizzes for extra credit and her lectures help you understand the material. Really nice teacher.

This is a difficult class, but it is college. She is tough, but fair. BTW, she did not create the labs. I don't know why everyone is blaming her for those. As for being a "know-it-all," she's a college professor. Just go to class and don't expect to fall backwards into an A.

Mrs Alme is a fantastic teacher that actually likes what she teaches. If you need a study guide or can't handle taking lots of notes, or think the labs are too hard, DROP OUT OF COLLEGE!! This isn't high school. My only complaint with this class is that she almost over-explains things.

This class was fun. I didn't get an A, but I enjoyed coming to her class. She made it interesting and honestly I couldn't have asked for more. I didn't do the labs, but I got the grade I deserved. She always encouraged me to do better and she knew I was able to do so. If I could re-do it I'd make an A for sure.

Prof. Alme made this class very interesting. Her class is difficult but she is always there for u to help u. You can sit down with her after class. BTW, I'm an international student. If I can get B for this class, then you can get A. Don't expect to get A for doing nothing.

Easiest class I've taken at KSU. Lecture isn't the most interesting but she gives you the Powerpoint slides to review on your own time. Study those and read the book and you'll get an A; this is an intro science course after all, not electrical engineering. She's pretty cool to talk with as well. No excuse to get less than a B.

Good teacher. Knows the material & is passionate. Offers outside help (SI & online info) and is clear of what is expected. If you pay attention, read the labs, and study, you will do great. FYI reading the labs is all that is necessary, I didn't do any and made all A's & B's!

Big class=no attend. Movies shown= some questions on test. Some questions from labs; never did all of them(not graded) but helpful for tests. If you read the chap, listen to her, watch the movies, and read the ppts> you'll do well.Goes by pnt system(477+ is an A).

Alme is passionate about the topic. The tests include everything: slides, videos provided, etc. If you actually go to class, take notes, and revise then you will do well. If you're like half of my class who never show up apart from the quiz or tests then don't expect to do well. Very helpful outside class.

This was the easiest class ever. Taking this as a freshman, I realized this is what a college class should be. Attendance is not mandatory, text book was never used. No homework-only labs, that were never graded, you were quizzed on them. If science is your thing this class is a very very easy A. Finals are easy if you pay attention/read content.

Professors is happy to teach but gets off topic a lot. everything is testable. does not provide power points prior to class, moves to fast to take notes. does not review test's so that students can learn what they missed on test.

She was very personable and passionate about her class. She was very helpful when I needed to take the final on a different day than everyone else. She provides power points after class, and she will give hints about test topics as she teaches. No study guide, though. But if you pay attention and study the slides you will do well.

She doesn't post the ppt notes before class so just jot down the important stuff she doesn't list on the ppt and study them for tests. Read the chapter before class because EVERYTHING that is taught is in the book. Study PPTs + go to class = A or B.

Pretty good teacher! the test were strait foreward no surprises! all info from either ppts which she post online or labs, and inclass videos. loves what she teachs!! liked her so much im taking her for sci 1102!!!!

She gives a TON of material for tests (chapters, powerpoints, and labs) to memorize. Her tests are LONG with like 120ish questions. She is very willing to help and offers a little extra credit at the end. I tried really hard in that class and only made a B. I don't know what I could have done differently. Her tests are extremely hard and cover a great deal of information, all of which are impossible to memorize. 300 slides, 3 movies, labs, and the book?! Too much! I'm an all A student and can barely manage a B in this class. But the no mandatory attendance is cool.

To be honest the class is a lot of work. I don't think it's her fault there is a lot of material regardless of who you take. All the tests are straight from the powerpoint it's not hard it's just a lot of reading. A lot of people didn't do well but there is no way you could fail unless you didn't even read.

She gives opportunities for extra credit and assignments are easy. Tests are a little more difficult but she posts all notes on Vista. Easy A for those who put some time into it.

This is a great teacher who really cares about what she is teaching. Not sure why some find her so hard. But basically show up and you will do fine. I do wish she would go over all tests in class and get rid of that darn cumulative test but other than that she is great.

This class is very easy. Although attendance is not mandatory, it is beneficial to attend just because her power points are so long. She will answer any question you have and she is very knowledgeable. If you take notes, pay attention and read the textbook you should be able to pass. She seems very friendly and wants you to do well.

Professor Alme is not in the business of giving As, so if you want an A you will have to work for it. Having said that is good to point out that the usual 10 - 15 people that score As in her class are those who attend her non mandatory classes. She is funny and passionate about what she does, but her class is definitely not a walk in the park.

Ms. Alme is my favorite professor at KSU- she teaches what she loves and you can tell. The amount of effort you put into her class is reflected in your grade. Tough class, you have to really try unless this come easy to you. She treats this class like this is your major class. She was annoying & try to force people to answer questions. Her class is a challenge, but a good challenge to push you. 4 tests & doesn't drop NONE. Her final was HARD!!! I failed, but got an B in the class!! Come to class!!

This was one the best classes I've taken at KSU. Don't get me wrong, her class is definitely challenging, but she is so passionate about what she teaches, it's almost impossible to not learn anything. If you pay attention, her notes come straight from the book. This is an upper level college class so it won't be an easy A. STUDY!

She is a very sweet lady with a lot of passion for science. She is pretty strict about a few things but is very helpful and clear about everything. Her passion for science really helps to make a potentially uninteresting subject very interesting. She does not drop any grades but does let you make up test if an emergency arises on a test day.

This class was VERY informative! Professor knows her stuff and helps you when you need it, go to her though with questions. Mastering Geology was EXTREMELY helpful in understanding and reinforcing the material in class and lab which showed up on the exam. Attendance is mandatory which helps you learn the material.

Professor Alme will challenge you, attempt to teach you critical thinking skills, expect you to UNDERSTAND the material, and help you understand anything you do not. Do not expect to put forth a half ass effort and pass/do well. You actually have to apply yourself, do your homework, study and LEARN how to think for yourself. She ROCKS!

Honestly she's actually pretty great for a professor of 200+ students. Lectures are as engaging as they can possibly be. Personally I rarely went to class and would read the textbook, study the power points posted online, and complete the mastering homework, and I consistently got 86s on the tests. Pretty fair considering my spotty attendance!

Professor Alme is a very passionate and great professor. You do have to study quite a lot for this class and the material isn't the easiest. But she gives you extra credit opportunity and will be willing to meet up with you if you have any questions. All the material you learn will be beneficial to you and I greatly enjoyed it as a gen ed course.

This is challenging course but well worth it. Professor Alme is excited and passionate about the material. She will gladly meet with you should you have questions. She responds quickly to emails. A very interesting and compassionate teacher, HOWEVER her test are way to hard for a first level class. Even if you know and are able to apply the materials on the test a lot of the test question are still incomprehensible Study the labs and go to class. Due to the difficulty of the class I lost hope. There isn't a lot of work (only MES and tests) but she has a lot of articles, discussions, videos, and movies that aren't for a grade but they are "fair game" for the test so it's a lot of prep for test day. Not exceptionally hard, but definitely NOT an easy A.

It was the best decision ever to take this class online! I made a "B" because everything was so straight-forward. It would have been a lot for a regular lecture class, but it was manageable online! I definitely recommend taking her! I wasn't a big fan of the discussions, but other than that it was not bad at all!

Karyn was a pretty awesome teach! She can be pretty harsh, she called out a few kids in class during the semester. Her PowerPoints were a perfect study guide for the test. She basically highlights everything she wants you to know and it's only a matter of memorization. ** Memorizing terms is a must **

A great person and professor! Expect to work very hard for an A in this class. You will have to devote your semester to this class because of the weekly online homework (easy), the weekly online labs (not required to do but 10 questions are on test about them), and the long PowerPoints. She does make class very interesting and exciting to learn.

This was my first online class and she set the bar high. Very clear assignments and time required to complete them. MES homework and labs were time consuming but not hard. Lots of quizzes! I didn't have to sign up for any other 3rd party websites besides the one for the text book. Discussion forum assignments were easy. Do the work, make an A.

Professor Alme was fantastic. I was a full time student, married with a one year old daughter that was sick most of the semester. I attended every class, read the chapter and completed the online coursework. Her lectures cover important information that WILL be on the test, so be there. If you have questions, she is there so do not hesitate to ask.

Go to class, pay attention to her powerpoints, Study the powerpoints on your own the day before the test and you will at least average a B on the tests. Homework in mastering in not hard, and is great study tool. one of the easier courses ive taken because its just reading a few chapters and learning new information. An "A" can be easily EARNED.

I took her for the second half of environmental Science. Ms Alme is a really good teacher but the grade you get on test is your grade. If you read, study and do well on the test, you will get a good grade. If not, you get what you get. No variation.

She knows everything there is to know about Earth Science and teaches from experience. nice and respectful to students, really cares for the students. 4 tests, all difficult but if you like earth science and study, you'll do fine. This professor knows what she is talking about. I highly recommend her for students who do not find science interesting or even students who are very passionate about the subject. She knows how to evoke a passion in her students for the subject with her lectures.

This class was very easy. If you do your homework, you'll do fine. She's very good about posting notes online. I did not find that attendance was necessary. Seriously. I went to class maybe 8-10 times and didn't get below an A on any test; including the final.

Wonderful speaker and obviously loves what she does. Come to class, take notes and pay attention and you'll get a good grade in the class. Very fun and loves to have the class participate in lectures. Tests cover exactly what is in lectures/on homework.

Pros: Seems friendly, the material is rather easy if you read/study and do the work, probably one of the easier professors in SCI1101 compared to others Cons: You have to use lockdown browser on quizzes, the labs are useless and will drain your grade if you don't study those, lots of readings/activities to do every week. But I'd take her again

LOVE MS. ALME!! She's passionate, excited, funny, and approachable. Loves her field and wants you to as well, even if it's not your major. She cares too much about her students it stresses her out. She's lax on grading labs because they are very long and can be tiresome. 4 exams, weekly quizzes and hw. She will help you however she can, just ask!

Mrs. Alme is a wonderful teacher. She loves teaching and it really shows. Her test come straight from the book and most times from her PP which she post on D2L. The labs are really long but all I did was read them and I did just find on the test. she does give extra credit sometimes but I wouldn't count on it because its very unlikely.

While being a great professor, Mrs. Alme is a great person. I stayed after class a lot to talk to her, and it wasn't always course related. I want take her again. She genuinely cares about her students. I thought tests weren't hard, others disagreed. Weekly online HW. 3 tests + final. Don't expect many bonus points. Work hard and you'll earn an A.

I took the lecture class but DO NOT TAKE THE ONLINE CLASS. She always told us how much easier we had it being in her lecture class because apparently she assigns a ton more homework online. 3 tests and a final, and one homework assignment per week that takes 30 mins. Low input class if you want it to be. I Scored A A B A on exams. Would take again

Alme was a very passionate professor and loves what she does. Tests were tough and labs are pretty easy, but labs are tested over as well. Huge class. Final was easier than any of her tests. Offers extra credit assignment with VKSU.

**TAKE PROFESSOR ALME FOR GEOLOGY!!** She has an abiding passion for Geology and really does her utmost to help her students. I was lucky enough to take her inaugural Geology class at KSU, and it will really help me in future Environmental Science classes. Exams are difficult, not impossible. An AAA++ teacher!

Online for science society and the environment. Professor Alme is fairly hands off but there are TONS of reading assignments, videos and supplemental material. There are 4 discussions, weekly lab, weekly quiz, 3 exams and weekly MES assignments. If you do the readings and take notes, you will be ok. All on lockdown browser, so take paper notes!

very caring and gives LOTS of extra credit. if you take her for sci1102 her lecture on population is the best! you need to buy your own scantron for the tests. final is cumulative. the material becomes dry but I think it's mainly due to the subject. Would take her again if I needed to.4 tests including the final, online assignments due every week

The homework is a must it can really help your grade overall. Test 1 attempt and quizzes 2 attempts are straightforward if you study the chapters. You have 4 Discussion boards only 1 at random is graded. Lowest grades on assignments dropped. Not the best on communication but I did well.

Awesome, knowledgeable professor. Attend lectures and you should be able to keep up without having to read so much. She makes the class very interesting and inspired me to change my major to Environmental Engineering.

Professor Alme is pretty good. Easy lecture, just take notes and she gives a preview of what is to expect of the lab for that week. SHOW UP TO THE LECTURES. She'll ask questions about the labs on the test. Volunteer for extra credit! 2 points for each (do up to 5 for 10 points extra on your final grade)

Dr. Alme was amazing!! She was the most engaging professor I've ever had. I wish I could take her again for 1102, but she's not teaching it. This class was challenging, you actually have to study *GASP*. This professor isn't going to spoon feed you the answers on the test. Open a book, take notes, go to class, pass the class. Easy. 5 tests (including final) and 5 lab quizzes, lowest 1 of each dropped. Weekly MES homework and quizzes. 3 discussion posts, but she only grades one of them. Kind of a lot of work for an online Science class, but extremely easy to get an A. Lockdown browser for tests, but no webcam. Understand the labs b4 the quiz, because she gives no time.

Professor Alme offers an excellent online class. You have weekly MES homework, which is actually enjoyable imo. You have 4 lab quizzes even though you don't turn in your labs. You must be very familiar with them as you only have less than a minute per question for the quizzes. I thought the tests were fair if you studied. I would take her again.

Im not sure why there are negative reviews on this class. I took the shortened eight week class, there were 11 ten question quizzes (only 9 taken in the final grade), 5 lab quizzes, 4 exams and a final, and two discussion post. I have not opened up one book or one lab, found everything on quizlet, and already have a low A without the final.

Keep in mind when taking this class it is a 4 hour credit class, so youre going to have to do work. Attendance isnt mandatory, but she has 7ish random in class assignments that she uses for an attendance grade. Really tries to connect material to real life examples. Do the work and study before the test and youll be fine. VKSU Extra credit option.

Professor Alme is known for being a tough teacher. However, she is constantly reminding her students to ask questions and she genuinely wants you to pass her class. Attendance isn't mandatory. MULTIPLE resources are available and if you do the work, you will get the grade you want. I wish she taught 1102!

Disregard any comments making it seem like this class overwhelmingly difficult because its not. Yes there are weekly homework assignments and you are required to complete weekly online labs with quizzes however they aren't that difficult. She is good at making clear what is on each test and answers any questions you have. Take her if you can!

Very involved throughout the course and gives great feedback. As this was a 4 credit class there was a lot of work to be done but she spaces it out. Final is cumulative. MasteringEnviornmentalScience is needed.

If taking this be prepared to spend some time on homework. A lab quiz every unit however you dont turn in your labs. Tests and quizzes are fair, if she sees youre struggling with something she will reach out to help you. Overall a typical intro Science class but you can tell Prof Alme cares about what she is teaching.

Overall decent class. MES activity and quiz every week-easy. Exams are also easy (but lockdown browser). The lab quizzes are exceptionally hard if you don't do the labs. Only 20mins for 25 questions. She uses lockdown browser for everything. Overall I would recommend this over taking it in person.

Most amazing professor at KSU, you will learn the material and keep it forever. She is also the sweetest professor of all time. Take this class if you are looking to be a science teacher of any kind, Dr. Alme has a great passion for everything science and her lectures are out of this world AMAZING!!!

Dr. Alme is a great teacher! Her class is mainly for students who plan on teaching science so, yes she wants you to be able to explain the content to her just as you will need to be able to do once you are teaching it. Exam questions are split between MC, FIB, SA, and essay. Study and you will pass. You can learn a lot if you take it seriously.

Dr. Alme will make every single science teacher after her seem completely incompetent and mediocre! I wish I could take her for all of my sciences. She has the most amazing lectures, and you learn soooo much!! With that being said, if you dont study and learn the material you will not do well. Not a class for slackers.

Amazing Teacher

Very lecture heavy BUT she will give you text answers during her lectures. 2 assignments per week but no difficult, you can pass the lab quizzes without even doing the lab. Professor Alme is very nice and emails back quickly. She wants everyone to pass

Her exams are the most difficult part of the class, however she let us retake all of them for a better grade at the end of the semester. Honestly the homework isnt too bad, all of it can be found on quizlet, you just have to take the time to do it. Super nice, always willing to help, is normally always available through email any day of the week.

Professor Alme is what made this class so interesting. She is truly passionate about geology and is very enthusiastic. Course was heavy in material, but she is the best professor you could ask for in regards to geology. Show up, do your work, and study, and you will do great. I think she is one of my favorite professors so far.

Tests are hard. You'll know most of it if you do the reading. However, there is always that one topic that is hard to grasp and she likes to ask ten questions on it out of 50. For the labs, questions are tedious, but only if you don't print out all of the papers. All of the answers are on the papers if you look. Lots of extra credit to help as well

This class was online. Weekly assignments, very tedious but doable. Professor Alme is very nice and caring. Depending on your syllabus she drops lowest test, quiz, and lab grades and provides extra credit towards the end, but DON'T count on it. She's encouraging. As long as you put in the effort, you should at least pass.

This class was hard!! Some stuff was easy like the assignments, but the quizzes and exams were so hard. I do not know how I got an A honestly. Just try your hardest and do not just think you can wing it.

Professor Alme is caring, flexible, and gives excellent feedback. Although science ed majors take this, it is a 3000 level science course, so don't expect it to be an "easy A" like many education courses. Exams are straight forward and As are achievable if you put in some time and effort. The homework is time consuming but helps you learn.

Professor Alme is great. Although she assigns a lot of homework, she specifies what is expected of you and it's pretty consistent every week. She offers extra credit and cares a lot about her students' success. She extended one of my Lab Exams because I missed the deadline. As long as you read the material and do the quizzes, you will be fine.

Dr. Alme was extremely kind, caring, and made sure to check in with all her students throughout the semester to make sure no one was getting left behind. Her lecture style is engaging and entertaining and she exudes passion for her field of expertise. Highly recommend.

There are weekly lockdown and webcam quizzes over the lessons and labs. It is heavy on reading and there are no lectures. The quizzes and tests sometimes ask very specific questions which make them tedious to complete. However, she gives multiple opportunities for extra credit which helps a lot. This course is not an easy A, but doable.

Very caring about her students if she knows you are trying. Ask questions and engage and she will help you however she can. There is a lot of homework but it's really not as hard as others make it seem. Very genuine love for geology and made it interesting and fun.

Hard tests! Lots of fill-in-the-blanks—no word box, and a 20-27 pt essay question for all four. She's super fun, though. She tries to make class entertaining and is overall a really kind professor that wants to see her students succeed.
