Excellent teacher, challenging, yet fair. Very approachable.
Distractingly sexy, a little nervous lecturing but interesting!
Passionate about Soci, take really good lecture notes = really good mark
She was really awsome! Her class was clear and she taught with enjoyment. Great!
an excellent teacher, non-stop notes taking, but very useful. mc&short ans questions, an essay on final...she seems to know everything about soci, very knowledgable
Sociology is her life! The exams are quite challenging, but she is approachable. The way she structures her notes could be a bit clearer. You need to put some time into the course to get a decent mark.
m/c very difficult; must remember exact names and subtle details. She is OK, but the course itself is wacky. If you believe in free will, this is NOT the course for you.
She rocks. Great teaching style. Repetitive and it helps it stick. Take good notes. Doesn't waste time getting to know people, but she is fun and funny. Very inspirational. I would recommend this course to all.

Good instructor, lots of reading. MC are straight forward but you need to study the text, not just your notes. 2nd midterm is impossibly hard due to time: 4 , 1 page quasi-essays and 20 MC in 50 mins! Unless your really into Soci I would avoid this class.
RIDICULOUSLY EASY... should not be teaching in college.. easiest a+ of my life.. so easy i was bored....
She's a very thorough lecturer, but exams are a litle tough. But she's definitely engaging, approachable and cares for her chosen field.

awesome teacher, only took the 2nd socio cuz of her, but she gone to get phd, i got screwed over and got objinek. she makes class fun and easy, only boring once in a blue moon
Sit back and absorb. loves her work, but dont expect discussions, or much beyond a sermon on how great sociology is. If you dont get the "sociological perspective" right away, you might as well go home. most ppl just sit in a silent stupor. hard
She's really can convey the message clearly without seeming pretenious, she's one of the best teachers I've had
great teacher..really helpful
nice woman, but too preachy.very biased toward her field. tests are ambiguous. very boring. not interested in engaging in debates.ignores any challenges to field of sociology.unrealistic expectations on 2nd midterm with regards to time and content.not impr
Ms. Eisler is a wonderful teacher. I was bombing her class early on but had some clear, concise help from her and now am doing well. I wonder if the ppl slaming her actually show up for class. I love this class!
Good teacher. She is very knowledgabe and loves her field. I am definitely going to take her next term. However, the exams are challenging, pretty long and comprehensive. Very interesting class overall.
This is my favorite class at Langara. Eisler knows her stuff and obviously is a great teacher. She has inspired me to want to know more about this subject. She also inspires me to do well in her class. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!
one of my favourite instructor. This woman ( looks like a cute girl) has a zest for life!! passion and explaines things clearly
She's very cute and energetic. She's very passionate about what she does which makes the lectures interesting and fun... and she has great hair!
Dr. Eisler's effective teaching styles and good interpersonal skills have greatly inspired me. She is also a sweet marker. Textbook is boring, but her lectures are very interesting. I learned way more by attending to classes.
So clear, straightforward, and organized. Don't put off reading textbooks, they matter about as much as lectures. Fun to listen to and watch.
did not like the class. Her midterm was very hard - she even tested on the blurbs under pictures. need to know "scholar's" (term used VERY loosely)full names. If the guy uses first middle & last name, you must list all 3 to get one full mark. Du
I LOVE HER CLASS.She is easily one of the best profs in Langara. Her classes are so engaging and her way of teaching makes sooo much sense;i find myself quoting terms and scholars from her class in my everyday conversations. If you want a memorable + worthwile class, take hers. SHE ROCKS!!
I can't believe all the good reviews. The woman is a ditz and her class is a bore. If you are on the "intellectual" side, you'll feel the same way. Good class for sheep who are easily impressed by a teacher who knows her mainstream pop culture.
solid

She's the best! I thought this class would be boring and all, but she makes it interesting. Provides understandable examples to explain theories. Midterms aren't hard as long as you listened during lectures and read the assigned readings (DUH) 5% for attendance, easy marks right there! My fav class =)
She's great. Take lots of notes on lectures & the text. Attendance counts for marks. The course is fairly easy but you do have to work hard to get an A. Her class averages are generally low. She has high expectations for what you need to know but it's within reason. I definately recommend her.

BE DETAILED. make notes that are DETAILED. Tests are extremely wordy and can throw you off. Branch to as many different areas of soci as possible to get marks. Very passionate about what she's teaching and doesn't stray from her standpoint. If you're wrong, she'll let you know you're wrong.
NO suprises on her tests. I like that in a teacher!! It is an intro course and she prepares her lectures acordingly. Also on a personal note : she has a sunny, happy way about her.
She is just OKAY. Everything seems oversimplified and every theory taught is related to some pointless, simple, surface aspect of modern life. This course didn't get me thinking much and didn't answer enough questions.
Not much beneath the sexy hair do. Just leave your brain at the door. If youre serious about learning sociology dont bother with miss pooh.
She is the sexiest teacher at Langara. She's clear and precise, makes you think. She's my favourite teacher (not one of, but is my FAVOURITE) of all the years i've been learning at school.

Boring boring boring.
I like her class becuz her lecture is quite informative and easy to understand.. She's friendly, but very picky with marks..AND always takes attendance
Before taking this class I was optimistic about having stimulation. The dreary way of presenting that which is a fabulous subject was a turn off from taking another class with Dr. Eisler
She's okay. Lectures are a little scattered. Odd approach to readings selection. Lectures primarily on extranious articles and not on the text. Helpful if needed.
her exams will cuase you to probably flip out if your a good student...you'll be fearfull but don't be. If you spend time studying and learning the material well than you will do well...if you don't spend time learning the material than you will pay for it. If your a good student up for studying for hours, take her and you'll do fine..
Her exams are a nightmare. She changes the format for each test. Final is all essays. Very vague on her expectations. I'm an experienced student with a good GPA and I'm fearful of failing this class! I think she expects way too much for a first year intro course.
great prof! provides a good challenge. fair marker. pleasure to learn from.
i've taken 2 classes with her & enjoyed them both very much! she's clear and organized and is always will to spend as much time as you need to help u out. returns phone calls quickly
Overrated. She's not too boring, but often goes into long stories which make you sleepy. Her lessons aren't too bad but you don't learn anything out of it. She poses tons of questions in class without giving answers leaving us clueless. When asked questions, she poses more questions for us to think instead of answering us. Nothing solid from her.
Little readings, but make sure you understand everything that it discusses. Form a study group and if you can teach each other the material and apply it to your life then your set for an awesome grade. MAKE sure you can connect the scholars to their soci theories. She inspired me to do a SOCI major at Univ. Really passionate and smart.
helpful and easy to follow lectures. LOTS of reading - heads up! but come to class everyday and the material will be easy to recall during the exams - which by the way are HARD if you haven't been paying attention. challenging, interesting, and fun too!
Karen Eisler is an enigma. Her lectures are interesting, albeit with many self absorbed anecdotes interspersed throughout. She is a neat lady and alternately dresses in flowy Indian clothes and lady pant suits. A+.
If you like learning in general, you will like her class. Her lectures are very well planned and organized. She gives the class opportunity to comment, and if what you say isn't relevant, she's easy about that. There was too much reading in the last part of the course. Know lecture and reading material thoroughly to get a good exam mark.
The best advice you'll ever get: Read the stupid newspaper stories in the text book! There will be questions on these useless things. Come to class. Sorta boring though. I would not take her if I didn't have to, but she's not horrible. I'm sitting around a B, B+
Lectures are not very clear. She speaks too fast and information has not time to settle down. Overall, she is not the worst professor in the world.
Gets extremely emotional about what she says... eases off into her personal life and expects us to know the lecture notes not covered... No idea how she marks.. Tests are extremely unfair. enough said.

she is so hard... studied so hard and i only expect an A-. tests include tiny details from the textbook and the term paper is freaken hard. but if you really want to learn something about sociology, take her~
these kids don't know what they're talkign about. Karyn is an amazing teacher and so easy. You just have to study and come to class. She doesn't care if you participate. Just do the work and you'll get a good grade.
i had karyn for 1120 and 1121 and she is the BEST SOCIOLOGY TEACHER AT LANGARA. she's passionate about her work, but unlike indira phrast, who's also very passionate, karyn's lectures are focused and easy to follow. she's a fair marker, but you have to throughly read the text. you can't get by on lecture notes alone.
I didn't know a lot about Sociology before I took her class and now I am hooked! She is very engaging and relates the text material to every day life. My favorite teacher for sure!
Dr. Eisler is a great prof! She's passionate about her field and is very helpful if you have any questions. Just make sure to come to class and BE ON TIME -- cuz not only does she hate late comers, if you're not there when your name is called for your mini-presentation, you'll lose 5% of your grade.
A challenging course, but EXTREMELY rewarding. You must attend class to receive the lecture notes - they WILL be on the midterm tests. Also, be sure to do a comprehensive review to pass the final exam. It's rare to find a teacher so passionate about the course materials, and one that encourages phone calls over the weekend PRIOR to tests/exams.
Eisler was really great. She's funny, and energetic, and when you ask her a question she's so helpful, while being kind and gracious and funny and everything. and she handles problem students really well and doesn't seem to let anything get her down. it was really amazing and i hope she teaches more sociology classes.
This prof is brilliant!! She really knows her stuff and makes class interesting. I had a 3 hour class with her and never once did I feel sleepy!! She's a great prof who is very helpful.
An amazing teaching, i entered her class thinking this was going to be an elective, and I'am not a Sociology major. She forever changed my view on education and SOCI...she's brilliant, funny, engaging, and very clear about expectations. Her exams are decently difficult, but totally fair. TAKE HER CLASS! DON"T HESTIATE A SECOND!
she forever changed my view toward society, and the relationship between people.
Very nice and funny lady BUT she expects way to much from a first year class. Her tests are so difficult 1/3 of the class has dropped out I am a good student pulling A's and B+'s in all my other classes BUT a C- in hers. Do not take this class unless you can commit countless hours to memorizing theories. A joke of a first year class
Tests were very hard. all multiple choice.... didnt like her teaching style at all.
when i was at langara i took 3 classes with her. she challenged me to think and study harder than i was used to, and what i realize now is that what she did was really help me prepare for the actual demands of university. i thank her tons for that.
Interesting, engaging, fair marker. Gives hints. Study everything! 1st test all m/c, 2nd test some m/c some essay, final all essays. Take her, she's great! Didn't study at all for 2nd midterm and got a b+ in the course.
one thing: read the TEXTBOOK, do the READINGS. cant say it enough. her exams are mostly based on that (and know the authors of the readings). Shes definitely passionate and youll catch her acting out what shes saying. She's ok, really, pretty in the middle.
i wrote the wrong class # but the one i was in, there were presentations every class by other students and there was a sign in sheet. if you were late and missed the presentation, you lose 5% of the mark you get at your pres.
shes an okay teacher but her lectures are very boring. she'll go on and on about a topic and talks really quickly so you dont really absorb much of the info. her tests are really hard, their based on the text and her lectures. If you want to succeed in this her class you must take good notes. Also, you got to memorize all the theories
loved her class-she's a good balance of serious and chill. made it easy for us towards the end-gave us all extra points on one of the midterms and told us the potential essay q's for the final. take good notes and do the readings, she's big on "key thinkers" of the theories. the lectures arent too boring either, i'd take a class with her again
I've never dreaded a class like I do this. She is not very intelligent and her level of teaching is more suitable for a Grade 7 class. She takes half the class going over what we did last class. If you are not very bright, this is the class for you. If you actually want to learn things at a post-secondary level, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE!!!!

Unintentionally belittling. Relies heavily on class participation & responds with "very interesting" to anything anyone says; which is annoying, because it's either really interesting & she didn't give it enough credit, or not interesting at all. Like talking to a wall. Her exams are a breeze though.
I wasn't sure about her at first but she won me over. Her lectures are very well organized & she's proactive in providing helpful study materials. She takes her field very seriously but I've found her to shine when unscripted & speaking off the cuff. Expectations are perhaps a tad high for an intro course, but the extra effort now will pay off late
Dr. Karyn Eisler 1120 class are tough for an intro class, but i find it rewarding, she provide the helps you can get to succeed, hard work and in depth study is needed in order to do well. Don't take this class unless you are ready for a challenge, but this challenge pave the way for success.
I LOVED Ms. Eisler!!! She made sociology really interesting and it was easy to understand what she was teaching. She's a FAIR marker but definitely not easy. We had one midterm with mukltiple choice and written. The multiple choice was ALL based on the text book, so be ready to read if you take her class. But overall she is GREAT!
Great class and teacher...she is extremly clear and explains everything. go to class and take notes and use hints she gives you in class...and its dr.eisler everyone...
Really fun teacher. She's hyper and active, so she keeps your energy. She laughs and smiles, so you can tell she's interested and wants to be there. She's passionate about what she teaches, and has a very clean and clear way of explaining things. She will review key points from previous classes and will do anything to help you succeed in her class!
Great Prof!! Must attend classes and take notes. Must do the readings but fair marker. If you have any questions utilize the office hours she is fantastic!!
What a contradiction: LOVED the material in this course (mind-blowing!), but despised the prof. As a male student, I found her to be an ultra bigot. In subtle ways, she belittled students. If you watch her closely, you'll note her contempt for certain pupils. People pick on Albanese and Brain a lot, but they seem so much more human by comparison.
One of the best profs I've ever had. Being a straight girl...I wont say she's sexy...but Boys, you'll like her class. On top of it, shes a WONDERFUL lecturer, everything is interesting and she's open to discussion and questions. Tests are half lecture and half text, and overall she's just fantastic. Take something with her if you can! :)
There is lot covered on the exams and therefore lots of studying involved, but she is very clear about you should expect. She is very approachable, will help you if you ask for it.
Everything thing is possible and there no such thing as knowing for sure. I am more of a science person so the style was not good for me. really good marking for essay sections she gives you a topic and you can take it pretty much anywhere and she will give you a mark for any points you hit (with hundreds of possible points for a 20 mark question)
Likes to go off topic and talk about her personal life. Class is boring, ends up listening to her blabbing all session. Tests are very tough and the video she tested on 3 out of 4 are not available in library. Not recommended if you want to keep a good GPA.
She is very entertaining. Lectures are important, as well as the textbook & readers. As long as you study all of them, you will be ok. I really enjoy in her class. It probably is my favorite class so far in post secondary. If you have any questions, attending office hour is really hopeful.
information overload! emphasis is made on doing a "deep reading" of text, which is a clue that attention to trivial detail overrides critical thinking. take this class if you have a robotic way of retaining nitty gritty information. expect an A if you accept everything that's told to you. (emotional biases and all; everybody in the class cries)
Her class is very enjoyable, the tests are moderate although some questions seem to focus on very specific UNRELATED elements of the text. "Deep Reading" More of a memorization in reality, though the majority of the test was not like this. Overall I really enjoyed attending this class.
She makes the class very interesting. There's good class interaction but the tests are really hard as you have to know everything and on the second midterm and final have to be able to integrate everything you know to apply to questions. The tests were really hard.
Lectures are pretty interesting and well-organized - sometimes she moves very slowly through the material. Seems distracted by her personal life a lot of the time, and seems too busy to even learn any students' names. Poorly-masked contempt for disabilities students - doesn't want to deal with them directly if at all possible.
Quite an enjoyable class, although attending lectures is paramount! Her lectures are completely different from the text. I found this class really easy and she lays out everything for you. It's just like a high school course. Lots of videos as well.
Really enjoyed her, But all the sociology classes at Langara have been great. She is easy to talk to and relates things to real life to make it easier to understand. I would take a class with her again.
Karyn is helpful and knowledgeable but its just that the course is too abstract. After the whole semester, I still have no clue what Popular Culture is and the readings are OVERWHELMING!!! However, the research paper is quite fun since you can choose your own topic.
Dr. Eisler is a wonderful prof! Very approachable and kind. Class sometimes awkwardly quiet, but she tries her best to engage class. Notes she writes are VERY useful and helpful. Textbook not used in class, but make sure you keep up with readings and you will do fine. Passes around attendance sheet every hour so do come to class.
I found the course hard because of all the readings. The course was very enjoyable and I learned about from it. It's a definte to take to broaden your horizons. You've got to stay on top in this course to survive.
Karen gives extremely dynamic and well organized lectures. The class I took with her was extremely well structured, which was SO refreshing. You will read the textbook, then the lecture the following day will tie into your readings, without just repeating them. A well orchestrated, and PROGRESSIVELY more difficult class as the semester goes on.
Karyn is a fantastic prof! I learned a lot from her and her teaching style is very engaging! She is a wonderful and intelligent woman who really cares about her students. Her exams are very fair as long as you attend class and actually listen to the lecture. She makes the material enjoyable and easy to understand. Definitely take a class with her!
Dr. Eisler's lectures are amazing. They're very eye-opening and she gives you a variety of information outlets -lectures, articles and videos. Her exams are half textbook, half lecture based (however I would say more so lectures). She is clear what she expects, but tests are tricky as there are "all of the above", "a & d" sort of answers for mc.
PROS: interesting & very useful lectures, time flew by very quickly, CONS: lots of reading, textbook heavy, lots to memorize tests are based on lectures, textbook and articles, her notes are not detailed enough, only on the main points. However she does explain it so make sure you you take good lecture notes, takes attendance & for marks
Soci 1121 has forever changed my life! It challenged me to see this world on a whole new level and my perspective on so many things has changed. Karyn is a wonderful prof! very passionate and humble. Her teaching style is incredible! Definitely one of the best profs I've come across at Langara. This class is amazing and definitely a must-take!
Dr. Eisler was amazing! Her lectures were engaging and inspirational! Must study her material in order to get higher marks, but overall she is a fair marker! Easy given questions on every exam! Would definitely recommend taking her class if you want a prof who can inspire the direction your education path
Karyn is amazing, her lectures were so interesting and she really loves what she does. She is extremely nice and very helpful shes always available for help during her office hours. Her assignments are fairly easy and her exams are precise and clear i would strongly recommend her shes the best!
Karyn is honestly the greatest teacher when it comes to Sociology. I took her animals and society class and her lectures could not be more clear and easy to follow. Her tests may ben tricky but if you do the reading and take good lecture notes you will have no problems. Amazing teacher and would definitely recommend her and would take her again.
She is the best teacher Ive ever met. Im so glad we had this time together. But get ready to read. There are reading lists. You should read all the material before every exam. There is also a concept paper. And she will take attendance.
By far one of my favourite teachers, EVER. Not sure how to describe how amazing she is but just TAKE HER COURSE. She really understands what it's like to be a student and she is very clear on what is going to be on the exams. Super nice & helpful. It is crucial to take notes during lectures and do your readings. Do your part and you'll do great.
Dr. Eisler is really amazing. She is thorough and means it when she encourages you to see her during office hours! If you are struggling, go see her, she will work with you! Also, go to the lectures. The material she discussed there is vital to your exams and final marks. All around great teacher and great class.
Lectures are very interesting and she is a fair marker. I took her Animals and Society course which consisted of two midterms, a final, and a small group project/presentation. There was no textbook for the course so attending class was essential. I highly recommend taking a class with this professor and would definitely take her class again.
Loved this class and loved her teaching style. There is a lot of material to cover and you won't be able to get a good mark just by cramming the night before. Took her suggestion for studying with cue-cards for the 2nd mid-term and was glad I did. She sets you up for success but if you don't study or engage with the material you won't do well.
Karyn is such an amazing teacher. She is filled with energy and enthusiasm first thing in the morning. Every class was fun I don't recall being bored. Her notes are really good even though it might be a little different from the textbook. She marks pretty fairly. Want an A in this class? read all the materials and pay attention in class!
Karyn is honestly such a cool prof! Her thorough clarification of explaining sociological theories, her enthusiasm and passion for sociology will make you enjoy her early morning 830 class. If you don't engage in the material, you will not pass her class, as there are reading lists she will assign that is vital to your exams! Thank you, Dr. Eisler!
Took Soci 1121 with this professor. Amazing class that everyone should take even outside of an Arts program. Tho you can take 1120 or 1121 first, I suggest taking 1120 with Elic Chan if you can first and following with this. Good synergy in that order.
Great professor. Lectures are very interesting. Do not skip class.
All I can say is AMAZING. I absolutely love her. She does cover alot of material and goes pretty fast but they are extremely clear and easy to understand. I ended up taking 3 courses with her and her animal sociology course was just amazing (I got a dog after that course). Lots of documentaries and notes to help you understand materials clearly.
Her readings are a tad heavy, but hey, it's college, what'd you expect? She's the best lecturer I've ever had in college. Her voice is literally the female equivalent to Morgan Freeman's. Her teaching is so helpful, and she's always available (even outside office hours!). Hiring this woman is the best decision that Langara ever made. Enough said.
Karyn is an amazing and passionate teacher, her lectures are entertaining and very informative. If you don't like reading then this probably isn't the class for you. Midterms and the final are based on reading packages, which she hands out, text book chapters and on lecture material, which can include movies. So try not to miss much of class.
Amazing teacher! She's very passionate and I LOVED her lectures. She's funny and has the best stories. There's A LOT of reading material and she takes attendance. Also you have one group project that you have to present in front of the class. It's not as bad as it seems though. Loved her as a teacher and I'd love to take her again!
Dr. Eisler is a true gem, easily the most inspirational prof at Langara! The best part is her vivacious personality you get to experience in each one of her lectures, you can tell that she truly loves what she does. Not to mention the stories/videos that are included to help students understand the content in a relatable way. Would take again!!
Loved her as a prof and would take her again within a heartbeat! You can tell she has a genuine passion for teaching sociology. Don't take this course for a booster, you have to work hard to earn that A. She's there to support you, but if you study and cram the night before, you will not do well. Genuine, funny, and you won't regret taking her! :)
She is one of the best teachers I have ever seen in my life. She is an attentive listener and has got superb teaching skills. I would love to take another course with her. She is so passionate about sociology.
best teacher .
Nice prof, but derails way too much. Exams are not easy in this class whatsoever and is mainly based off her lectures, reading packs & documentaries. Super precise about noise & tardiness.
Karyn is nice and passionate about soci however exams were a bit tough. You really need to study her lecture notes and reading packages to do well in this class. You can't cram. Assignments were straightforward as well. Lectures were interesting from her funny stories!
very enjoyable class.
Just one word: horrible
Very interesting lectures that kept me engaged even though it was an 8:30 am class. Clearly very passionate about sociology. Yes, the exams are difficult, but if you read the textbook and take good notes during lectures you will do fine. Dr. Eisler made an intro course really interesting and I am likely going to take classes with her again.
She makes sociology interesting, the only problem is that her exams can be quite difficult since she includes everything from her lectures, reading packages, and textbook. So it is mandatory to attend class to make good notes. Overall, not a bad prof, just don't cram for exams and take time to study if you want a high grade.
I do well in school and genuinely enjoy learning. But this class made me feel stupid. There was such heavy reading, and the textbook of choice was very poorly worded. I would say this was a course on analyzing philosophical literature. She only uses multiple choice on her exams and tries to trick you in the options. Doesn't seem to care how we do.
i'm on the fence about dr. eisler. there is a LOT of reading, and the tests are tricky. they don't so much test your knowledge of theories, but minuscule details. this was the hardest class i've taken in 4 semesters, i barely scraped by to get an A-. however, i do appreciate how detailed she is about grading expectations and how to earn a good mark
Dr. Eisler is an amazing prof. Class material is discussed thoroughly and there is quite a lot of reading to be done. ATTEND CLASS! DO NOT SKIP THIS CLASS. Prof hands out reading guides for assigned readings and realllllllly explains things. An amazing prof!
Tests are really hard. Boring classes. Even a single attendance matters. Need a book but lecture notes will totally be different from book. Really tough grader.
She was a little scary at first, but once you get used to her personality and teaching style she's really great. She's passionate about the topic and lectures are interesting. Your final mark is on 2 midterms and 1 final plus 1 small group presentation worth 5 marks. A lot of reading but she gives guided question sheets to help.
amazing lectures! I took both her sociology courses, 1120 and 1121. She's so passionate about her lessons that it makes it very interesting, and informative. I was excited for her modules. She does assign alot of readings, but she gives you guided questions and only includes questions from readings from those specific questions.
Karyn is AWESOME! Made me switch my major to Sociology. The way she teaches aims at sowing seeds of curiosity rather than a false sense of understanding. Her lectures include many clever comparisons, anecdotes, visuals, hypotheticals and other goodies that will make you laugh and overall offer a deeper understanding of the material. Worth the work!
Really loved this class. I learned a lot and Dr. K is a fantastic lecturer. Super relatable and kind. I hope to take her second SOCI course in the fall!
Professor Eisler provided amazing and engaging lectures! The REVEL long, so be prepared to read a lot. Each chapter took me 5 hours if I was taking notes, and 3 if I was skimming. She doesn't talk about the textbook in class which I found a little unhelpful. But she is very accessible outside of class.
Easy course , such a nice professor .
Dr. Eisler is a great person, but her lectures are boring AF and the final exam is really hard. She asks us to write a 5 page essay connecting literally all materials of the course: textbook, lectures, extra readings, EVERYTHING. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE if you want to keep a high GPA.
Sociology is a easy class , but this class was so tough because of too much worload which just not make any sense , not recommended .
A LOT of different readings and articles assigned with each chapter that you NEED to take notes of. The topics that her test consist of are info from the REVEL text, her power points and the readings assigned. There is an essay for the final exam portion worth 25%, unfortunately I bombed it so make sure you check criteria to see what she wants
Lectures are related but based on different material than the textbook so watching these videos does not feel repetitive. Lecture material is organized, straightforward, and you always know what is expected from you. I would say this course requires effort and skill, but I did not think it was an unreasonable amount. Would definitely take again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF! I used to love taking sociology classes but she ruined it for me. Her content is beyond boring and her approach is as well. Her end of the term essay is garbage and she unnecessarily marks it way too hard. Worst prof I've had at Langara.
Made the course content very long and boring.
This was the most fun class I have had at Langara so far. There's a weekly documentary that you watch as a class, and then you write an essay about it and discuss it. Dr. Eisler is very engaging and provides a great framework for discussing concepts and ideas. If you want to grow and challenge your worldview, this is a great class to do it with!
