What a great teacher, I took her for Art History, Humanities 2 and a fun class in the summer called early childhood art education. This woman knows her stuff and is great at relating to her students! Karyn YOU ROCK!
Karyn came down to the students level and trwated us like people and not just nobodys. I took her for Humanities in Latin America and Africa during the summer and it made coming to class so much more enjoyable just because she was there.
She is a great teacher who is also full of amazing stories to help carify different concepts. She is very understanding and helpful and as long as you pay attention it's easy.
This lady thinks she is a comedian, everyday she tries to crack jokes that arent funny, goes of topic alot, grades test to her level, which sucks but if u study for test and learn the term u will get an A.
Good teacher, made Humanities less boring than it really is! I like the way she has you prove your knowledge of humanities through writing on the test, instead of having two research papers. Recommeneded
awesome teacher!! love her!!
Karyn is absolutely wonderful. Very funny and full of interesting stories. She expects you to learn a lot of material and you prove that on the tests. Study hard and you can definitely get an A in her class. She is a teacher who truly cares to see you succeed!! LOVE YOU KARYN
She's the best!! Not only is she smart, she's hilarious. She'll make you work for your grade, but you'll have a blast in the process!!
this teacher is ridiculously overrated! not impressed or sat
Ms. Ott is awesome. Her class was so much fun and she is HILARIOUS!!!! I really learned a lot from her, because she is extremely knowledgable. I definately would recommend getting into ANY of the classes she teaches... you'll love her!
Ms. Ott is an excellent instructor.
SHE HAS A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR AND SHE LIKES HER OWN JOKES. SHE MAKES THE CONTENT INTERESTING. SHE INTERACTS WITH HER STUDENT.
She's a great teacher who breaks everything down into simple forms. She is very funny & interesting. If you take notes and look up the list of terms she provides, you'll easily get an 'A'. She has a great test format too, but she can tend to be a little unorganized. I would take her again anytime.
Ms. Ott was such an amazing teacher. She's down to earth and keeps you interested in the stuff. She doesnt pass out A for the hell of it, but you'll walk away learning something.
Karyn is the coolest teacher I ever have had for a history/art class. She tells a lot of jokes about things she has seen, and you remember all those for the test. If you want an A and still have fun in the class, I recommend any of Karyn's classes!!!! A+++++ Karyn Ott
Best teacher ever!!!!
I took Mrs. Ott's online course, which requires a lot of self-teaching. The assignments basically consisted of short papers and powerpoint presentations. She made the course easy, but she is pretty unorganized. My grades were not ready until the very end of the semester, so I really could not see if I was succeeding or not.
Awsome teacher, while i would agree that I would have like to have a better understanding of my grade before the final, she still is one of the most interesting teachers i've had to date.
Otter is great and the class taught me a lot. You can help your community and get credit. Must take care to complete your hours. She is more than willing to help!
Karyn Ott is the best teacher I have ever had, hands down. She makes the class fun and interesting with her stories and sense of humor. She's always willing to help, and she answers all her e-mails. This class was not an easy A; it was very challenging. I had to work hard and study A LOT, but because of that I also learned a lot.
Although the class is challenging and you do have to study, i truly recommend taking it. i had no interest in art history before but her sense of humor and personal knowledge of the material made it fun and exciting. she is always willing to help her students and gives out fair grades. she is definetly in the top 3 of my favorite teachers so far.
Great teacher
Attendance is mandatory. The class is easy to fail, but not terribly hard to pass. She is a fun teacher, but don't think you're gonna get some free credits with this class.
Best. Teacher. Ever. This woman is a goddess.
GO OTT!!
Great teacher
Otter's the best! Lot's of work, but well worth it! I've taken her twice, and both classes kept my interest 100%. Love the Jokes too! Take her class!
She is one of the best teacher on BCC. She is funny and very helpful. Her class in amazing. Her tests are not hard, but you have to study a lot. We need more teachers like her!
BEST TEACHER THAT I HAVE EVER HAD! I HAVE TAKEN MS OTT 6 TIMES. AWESOME TEACHER. YOU ROCK MS OTT!!!!!!!!
You have to study for her class. Because she is a great teacher and person does not mean her class is easy. She is available 24/7. Highly recommended. She is the best!!!
Miss Ott is a WONDERFUL teacher. Very nice, makes class interesting, very clear on assignments. Tests are a little difficult, but as long as you study your notes you will be fine! Highly reccommend her to anyone! A+++
She was silly and FUN!!! I Loves this class... She was very sincere and you can tell she loves her job!!!I LOVE THIS TEACHER!!!
She is an AWESOME teacher. To recieve an A in the class you must study for the exam, they are not hard but you need to know the information. Turn in the early papers gives you an automatic A because you can revise!
awesome class. Ms. ott requires a lot out of you but she makes it fun and intersesting. i lmao. She's great!
She is awsome. She has a humor side of her that will keep you laughing. Very willing to help you understand the material. She will work with you to make the best grade you can.
Ms. Ott is by far the best teacher i have had in college. I took the 6 week summer session D, it was a lot of work but she is definately the teacher to have for humanities. I would recommend her to anyone.
utterly fantastic, probably the best and most interesting teacher I have ever had
Ms. Ott is THE BEST ever! She really teaches so that you understand the information. She doesn't just give resources to you and tell you to go learn it on your own like others do. She is FUNNY, easy to apporach, and makes learning worhtwhile and FUN! Her tests are easy if you study, but have alot of writing to do. By far my favorite proffesor!
She was one of my favorite BCC professors. Take her classes, you'll have fun and learn a lot.
She is hilarious and fun to work with!
She is an amazing instructor. She makes the class fun and interesting. Will be a lot of writying but she is willing to help if it is needed. Would recommend her to anyone.
Ott is willing to go the extra mile for students. This is my second time taking her as a teacher and wouldn't have it any other way. Such a wonderful lady and is always trying to lighten up the room with silly little jokes. Pick her first if you can, totally worth it!!!!!
Take her if you can, she's a wonderful teacher and extremely intelligent. She also jokes around and makes class more interesting. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
Wonderful teacher! This is not an easy class. You must study, but it is well worth it. She is a lot of fun. NO CELL PHONES!! She is one of the BEST at BCC.
I loved her class. She made it interesting and she takes a genuine interest in her students. There's a medium work load that gets easier as you get used to it. While she does seem a little disorganized and rants sometimes, it doesn't get in the way of learning the material. I would another of her classes in a heartbeat.
One of the best professors I have ever had. I had her for a summer humanities survey as a dual enrollment student almost 8 years ago, and still remember upwards of 90% of the material she covered. Incredibly funny and personable. I've never enjoyed a class so much prior or since.
If you want an easy A or B then DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. She is very nice, she knows what she's talking about but the tests seem to be university level. I took her for Humanities and it was a lot easier than Art History. The tests are just too hard, many people dropped the class half way into the semester, i got by with a "C"
I took this class over the Summer. She assigned 400 word quizzes weekly because the SUmmer class is so short. If you pay attention to the lectures in class and you take notes the quizzes will come very easy. Her quizzes can be a little tough when it comes to the essay reponse if you weren't paying attention. All in all it was easy. I got an 'A'
This class is called COmmunity Involvement. We had class twice a week every other week. Which was great. You had to do 32hrs. of community service and eight 400 word essays and three 400 word journals, but it was super easy. I'd recommand her!
Took her over the summer. i failed a few of her test but i did the extra credit and still passed the class. Pretty easy class. she is a nice lady and makes the class somewhat interesting.
She was very helpful and knows about everything possible about what she teaches. If you listen and take notes it will be easy to pass her tests. And shes funny! haha
I hate history and humanities but Ms. Ott made me LOVE coming to this class. I find her classes interesting where as before I viewed humanities as a boring topic. She has been to most of the places that she teaches about so its interesting to hear stories. She offers help in any way possible. Her syllabus looks like she is hard but she is not.
She is a very nice teacher. She helps you whenever she can. You have to do the work and turn it in on time. That is really important for you to get a good grade. Overall, she is a good teacher.
I had the honor of taking Ms. Ott for several classes several years ago and she is by far one of the most passionate prossors that I have ever encountered. She loves Humanities and her real life enounters just adds to her enthusiasm. If you pay attention, do what she asks, turn your research papers in early for revision you will get an A.
Had Ms. Ott for community involvement. Very nice and passionate teacher. Class work was more than I expected and she graded a little too hard for it only being community involvement. A little unorganized, but other than that,,,I recommend her as a teacher. She is funny and will put a smile on your face.
Ms. Ott makes it really easy to understand the subject and keeps class really funny, but we get off track and have to change the schedule often. She also doesn't give many in class reminders about when assignments are due so you always have to keep track of what's due and if the date has been moved
I am writing this because from 2008 onwards I had five classes with Karynn and enjoyed every one of them. I learned more from her than I was able to from any professor I had at UCF. She convinced me to pursue humanities and I would take her courses all over again. She is a wonderful person and professor and I recommend her to any fellow humanist.
With the Community Involvement class, you meet every other week. You also have 32 hours of community service to do. You have two journals, four reflections, and a paper. Get everything done on time, and do your hours, and you should get an A or B. Ms Ott is funny, and very helpful. She grades a little tough on assignments, so be careful.
This teacher is awesome. The class is moderately easy, and the class is fun. The only problem I encountered had to do with the Final Exam. (There's not a lot of work).
She is not very understanding or helpful. She tells a lot of stories and tries to be funny
If you want a laid back teacher that is pretty funny and makes class interesting, then you want to take Professor Ott. You have to study and do the readings to make an A because there are only 2 exams and you have to write about the readings. there were a few reflections we had to do and 1 paper. Would definitely take her again, learned a lot.
very nice woman, goes off track sometimes, but is definitely approachable. she is very kind hearted. Offers more time on assignments if needed. very flexible. only complaint is her grading can take a while, but not a tough grader.
I've had Professor Ott for Humanities and Honors leadership and I enjoyed them both! She's a great character, and contributes a lot to the school. She assigns several pretty easy response papers (only 400 words minimum). Ott really cares about her students!
I had Prof. Ott for Intro to Humanities and Leadership and she is an awesome teacher! Environment feels relaxed and encouraged discussion for the covered topics. Grading include group projects, response papers, and tests but are manageable as long as you put in effort into the course. I highly recommend her, I always looked forward to her class!
Had her for Honors SLS and she is an awesome teacher. Real easy grader and gives 4 or 5 400 word response papers(real easy), I usually wrote 500 - 800 words because the prompts were simple and easy. Assigns reading about once a week and we did a lot of group work. Would take her again for sure.
Awesome teacher with a great sense of humor and personality, which was perfect for this night class (6-week term). Only 3 papers at least 400 words long (with midterm and final), may take a while to grade but was an easy grader. Her course was pure memorization, so proper study needed to get an A. Overall, great person and would highly recommend.
Professor Ott made a Humanities 6-week night summer course, one of the most inspiring classes I've had at EFSC thus far. She is didactic, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. She also has a great charisma and you will eventually laugh at the jokes someone with an art degree makes. :) She has inspired me to continue read poetry.
Tries too hard to be funny and gets off topic a lot.
I've taken several classes with Ms. Ott and I can honestly say that she is the best. Her jokes and puns may be a bit cheesy but it's her way of getting the class to loosen up. There are only a couple of assignments including some super easy papers that are mostly reflections, but if I weren't graduating, I would take more of her classes.
She was very knowledgeable about the arts and loves what she does.
Uses YouTube videos, and PowerPoints with no information to write down.
She's very nice and understanding. Very lenient when it comes to grading. There were only 3 response papers-400 words each. You basically watch videos during class. The midterm and final are tedious to take though so study hard for those. She tells stories sometimes and makes the class laugh with her jokes.
Ms. Ott is simply a wonderful individual. You can tell that she has a passion for the subject(s) that she teaches and tries to share that passion through her instruction. Between her jokes and humorous memes, I felt that I left her classroom with more than just the information from her lectures. Just make sure to take notes... Excellent instructor!
Nice teacher
Professor Ott is an outstanding grader however, it may take some time to see your grade on Canvas. 3 response paper 400 words each, mid-term and final just pay attention to the lectures and you'll be fine.
Awesome humanities professor, probably the best at EFSC palm bay, funny lectures, uses memes for lectures, mid term and final are easy if you remember anything, most of class it paintings, music, plays, architecture. and Hamilton on broadway.
Shes amazing, take notes on everything you do in class. 4 response papers (do them all and on time). 2 tests, she as multiple choice, write in the blanks, short/long responses. You only kinda use the book for vocabulary, and maybe a reading here and there. Study guides given dont do much for you, just memorize everything you do in class.
I took Ms Ott for humanities and community involvement. I enjoyed both classes. She teaches very well and only has 4 required papers as well as mid term and final.
She wasnt my personal favorite but she is an easy A & somewhat a good professor. She expects you to remember things from her lectures even though its hard to take decent notes being that its a Humanities course & everything is visual. She also takes off pointless marks on your response papers. Read the book & terms for the midterm & final.
Love, Love, Love this professor. She made learning the subject so much fun. She even showed her own pictures of topics we were studying. Most definitely will look her up for any other course in humanities!
Professor Ott is one of the most kind hearted, enthusiastic, and understanding teachers I have ever met. Her goal is for you to succeed ! She gives extensions, provides study guides, and doesn't assign papers over 500 words. This class is definitely lecture based but notes aren't completely necessary. As long as you attend class you will do fine.
Prof. Ott is a great professor. She keeps the information interesting and relevant.
Great class, only assignments are 4 response papers and 3 tests. Besides those, just attend lectures and take notes if you need to; the tests are pretty much all based on things discussed in lectures.
She is such a nice professor. Her exams were pretty difficult, but I did take her about four years ago when I first started college so I didn't prioritize studying. I had her for an 8am and it was hard to stay awake in class but I think it's just because of the topics and not from her teaching. I really enjoyed taking her class overall.
Very nice professor and interesting if you enjoy humanities. But if you don't enjoy humanities, the class tends to feel long and boring. And the fact that there aren't any assignments aside from the exams and papers makes the class feel less structured. The exams are off memory since there aren't assignments to go off of, so make sure to study.
The lectures are enough to get you an A+. I don't even know how to access the textbook and I got the highest scores on all of the exams every single time. You don't really need to pay attention during the lectures, only reason you would want to is because they are engaging and funny. Lots of yt vids. Essays are easy to get A's on too, just do them.
