shes a great professor. she really wants you to understand her lectures. there are a lot of notes and only 3 tests that are all multiple choice. no homework. she laughs a lot.
She is a great teacher. She is very fair and tests you on what she teaches, no surprise hard questions or anything. It is a fairly easy class, just show up and take notes and you will get it. You get a chance at extra credit during every class too.
She has very interesting lectures, but the tests are hard.
This professor teaches the subject -- which isn't easy at times, due to the complexity of the material, but she instills the interest present in today's global economy. And by the way, her laugh and looks are 'priceless' assets.
This teacher is AWESOME!! she teaches the material in a way that makes it REAAAAALLL interesting. Probably the best teacher i've ever had. Only reason i say it's very easy is because she rocked at teaching the material!
She's really into what she's teaching and uses many life examples. Her exams are a little tricky and she's slow to answer e-mails, but if you talk with her face to face she is helpful and willing to answer all your questions.
Excellent prof. Tests are a tad bit harder than what you'd expect, but not half has hard as an Izraeli exam. I would highly recommend her to anyone taking an Econ class.
She is a cool teacher. She is very fair and gives lots of extra credit! So take advantage of it!
I had her, and she is one of the best teachers I ever had. She teaches you the material in depth so that you can really understand what's going on. Plus the extra credit she gave really shown that she wanted people to succeed.
Gives extra credit and is quite clear during lectures. Gives practice exams and is friendly and explains things when you ask for help.
I thought this class was very challenging, but as long as you show up to class every day, take notes and read, there is no possible way to fail. She is very nice and genuinely cares about her students.
Well prepared, but sometimes too task oriented. Could provide more background on text concepts to broaden understanding.
excellent professor. one of the most helpful and well prepared professors ever
REPLACES PRIOR WRONG CLASS RATING MKT.302. Great professor, one of the best prepared and helpful professors ever
Super prof!!! Helped me understand management decision making. Class projects and extra credit are a real plus. Very helpful with student questions
class was very difficult, yet she was able to teach it well. req. a lot of study throughout the week. She was very enthusiastic about the subject, esp. game theory and was more than willing to give anyone as much help as they needed. You can do well in her class but it requires a lot of work.
She is a very organized lecturer. The projects and tests come right from lecture. At the end of each lecture, she does a "concept check", where she gives us a problem straight from the day's lecture to solve and then goes over the solution; very helpful in terms of learning the computations.
She is really a great professor. I struggled when it came time to take the exams, but thats because I get anxious about exams. She has very interesting lectures and I look forward to going to class. There was hardly any one absent from class. She is very intelligent and knows her material very well
Very good teacher. Just pay attention on the lectures. Only read in the book what is covered in the lectures. Gives practice test which is very similiar to exam. No strings attached in this class. Everything is straight forward.
I've heard from a lot of people that ECN 303 is a tough class, but professor Tomlin made it really easy and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend her to everyone I know. The tests are pretty easy as long as you study what she tells you to. There are no suprises! Plus she's really nice and funny and down to earth. Good prof!
She is the best professor. I hated economics before but after taking her class i really liked economics. I want to take her for ECN 303 but sh eis not teaching that class anymore. TAKE HER
She lectures at a huge speed. If you don't do your reading, you will be lost. I would not recommend her, unless you are ready to work very hard.
Dr. Tomlin presents the course & herself in a serious but candid fashion -- i.e., both extraordinarily well. But, this means be ready to work, and dilagently so. She is very fair and non-pretentious, despite her credentials -- physically and mentally. If you truly want to learn economics, take her.
Fun class, reading is essentially optional and quizes take more work to fail than to ace. She thinks she's really funny too, half of every lecture is her laughing at herself
Great professor! She is very smart in class, using good examples and focusing on the material. If you attend class you will do well. Outside study is a must, and if you participate in class she will recognize that. Recommend!
decent professor...boring class...tried to make it somewhat enjoyable...tests were alrite...but show up for the practice test, its very similar to the actual...in class assignment at end of class almost every day...weekly online quiz's that are really easy...seems like she has an attitude at times, but its just her personality
She is by far one of the better teachers I've had at OU. If you attend class, you'll do great. Make sure you do her exam reviews, because the actual exam is almost the same.
She is HOT!!!!! Class is pretty easy, if you attend. She explains things well and its easy to pick things up quickly with her.
Great Professor! She's really clear with her teaching and has in-class assignments to help understand the material. She gives extra credit for coming to class and doing the assignments. Review exams are practicaly identical to actual exam. Easy class if you just show up every time.
good teacher. Hard class. My only complaint is that the in-class assignments are worth more to you if they were actual points. She gives them as E.C. but the max you can improve your grade is 5%. If they were actual points they would improve maybe 15-20%. So it seems to punish the people who come to class and do the work.
Professor Tomlin is super cool. She gives you so much extra credit it's ridiculous. You gotta go to class because all the extra credit is at the end of the hour but it's like a stupid easy problem. I got C's on like every test but extra credit helped out. Class isn't like a complete blow off but take Tomlin, for sureeeeeeeeee
Very hard teacher. You have 2 or 3 tests which are worth 30% of your grade, in class assignments are e.c. but dont help your grade out every much at all...online quizes every week that are worth 10%? She explains things ok but when you look back at your notes before the test none of them make sense the way she writes things on the board.
She is very difficult quite contrary to what everyone says she has 4 projects worth 30% which are hard and she will not let you work with others or consult others in order to finish them. Then 2 exams each worth 30% good luck passing them your more likely to get hit by a car. Lastly each week she makes you post articles which mean nothing. worth 10
The way she answers questions is HORRIBLE! She spends too much time trying to be cool, mentioning her Doctors degree left and right, and is not helpful at explaining material. She talks down to class - "let me put you out of your misery" is the way she gives answers to problems. Has attitude. Grades very hard and doesn't curve. Bad professor. :(
This class is not how it is explained on this site. She is helpful but you dont understand anything once you try to do the work by yourself. I dont understand why we can't work in a group on the projects but it would help a lot more, people do it anyways!!!
I recommend her as a teacher. She gives you extra credit as long as you attend class and do the in-class assignments. There were 2 hard exams, 4 pretty difficult projects and on going postings online that are fairly easy. The material simply is not easy but she is helpful.
Professor Tomlin is great. She is very clear in what she presents and is very reasonable with the amount of work she assigns. No need for the book, just go to class and take notes. She is easy on the eyes too and that's a plus.
She is very nice and cares if you pass her class. I took the online class. Theres a lot of work but if you do the work you should be fine. The exams come right from quizes if you do well on quizes you will do well on her exams.
Terrible professor, told you to study book problems as practice for test, and would switch the type of problems for the exam. Her extra credit for attendance is at her discretion, she does NOT give it automatically if you attend every class, if she likes you she'll give you the extra credit. If not...Sorry!
Something is wrong with all this positive comments. I haven't met 1 student who would like her, but she gets all this good ratings here all of a sudden. I think she's grading herself, otherwise it's a mistery how people can hate her classes so much, and give her such good ratings. Her lectures and answers are confusing, she has attitude.. Bad prof.
Great professor, moves slowly though the material and does lots of in class exercises for clarity. Extra credit given for in class assignments (have relevance and are on current, interesting things), online quizzes. Has sense of humor and is very personable. Would DEFINITELY recommend.
Probably the most obnoxious professor I've ever had. Her laugh is so annoying & going to class is pretty useless. Don't take her if you don't have to.
Probably the most obnoxious professor I've ever had. Why does she have so many positive feedbacks? Don't be fooled! This professor is really annoying and she laughs at her own jokes. Going to class was a waste of time and her exams were impossible.
I loved her! She gives you extra credit for attending class and gives online quizes weekly but encourages you to use your notes. Class goes by so fast, she has alot of enegry and gives you a practice exam before evry test! TAKE HER!!!
Probably the worst professor I've ever had in my collegiate career. Don't even think of raising your hand to ask a question, unless you want to be berated in front of the entire class! Unless your an economics major, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
Horrible! Bad attitude and is on a power trip. Her grading scale is awful, & she's very unclear in lecture. Her main priority is covering as many chapters as possible..NOT making sure students understand the material being taught. Avoid her at all costs.
I thought she was a very good professor. She did all her lectures on the projector screen which was very helpful for notes. She actually cares about the grades of her students. She even gave us opportunities for more extra credit, in addition to the in class assignments. Overall, she was very understandable and clear in lectures. I'd take her again
Tomlin knows her stuff. She is very knowledgeable and really cares about econ. Some students had problems with her but it was their fault, not hers. They ask stupid questions that she covered a million times already, thats why she gets mad. Take her if you want a professor that can actually teach you something. It is a tough class tho
A very good teacher if you want to actually understand economics shes the best teacher. Show up take notes do the in class assignments and you will pass easily.
Not interested in seeing you succeed. Tests not at all related to what she covers in class. All around bad teacher.
Not a ton of homework other than posting to a Current Events Forum once a week w/other classmates. Was able to follow 85% of her lectures. She sometimes had a hard time explaining a concept but did a good job in general. 4 individual projects due which were good grade boosters as they were relatively easy. Good natured person. I'd highly recommend.
She is a good teacher, my hatred of the class simply comes from my dislike for the subject. Grade is only based on 3 tests and online quizzes, so you must study hard in order to pass. Watch out for her laugh, it grates on your nerves.
Tomlin definitely knows her stuff but if you ask too many questions she gets frustrated and just moves on. You need to study hard. Most of your grade is based on 3 tests. A small percentage is based on attendance/participation and on-line quizzes. Quizzes are sometimes tricky. Overall I would not recommend her.
I found her to be smart, affable, and professional. I just wish she cared more about the success of her students.
Disregard anybody's comments here that say Tomlin is a bad instructor. To me, that means that probably just got a bad econ grade from being lazy and not studying. Her class is not easy, it's not impossible, but I think she really does care how well her students do and does a fine job of explaining economics.
usually late for class, wasted lots of class time.
Currently studying for the final exam which is bound to be leagues away from the material covered in class. Absolute dread. You're better off being taught by a rock.
I really liked Tomlin. She is pretty funny, makes class fun. Gives up to 5% extra Credit( so if you get a 2.0 in the class, with EC you will get a 2.5), gives online quizes. She is super nice and loves class clowns which really helps make the class fun. the bad: 2 exams make up 90% of your grade.
I really liked Tomlin. ECN is a very hard subject & is based on comprehension & concepts not memorization. A lot of people disliked tomlin but it was their fault. they expected to show up and get an A. ECN is not that kind of subject. She is a great teacher and even gives you a review packet & quizzes which are similar to exam kinda..
Watch out - she teaches her class like a 100-level, but grades it like a graduate level course. Frequently late, wasted a lot of time in class, expectations very unclear. I had no trouble with the material, but I didn't learn much in this class and I won't take another class with her.
Engages the class in discussions. Expectations clear. Grading reasonable. Is the class hard? Absolutely not if you study. If you're one of those students like me who looks down on people who text and talk during lecture you'll love this professor.
She was a really cool prof. Made class fun and engaging. She gets snappy if shes in a bad mood so avoid sitting in the front. Tests are worth 90% of grade, but before them she gives a practice test nearly identical to the exams. SHE DOES OFTEN COME IN LATE OR MISS CLASS SO IF YOU ARE THE TYPE OF STUDENT WHO IS BOTHERED BY THAT AVOID HER!
She was a good prof, I don't know what people complain about? Sure the subject isn't the easiest but she explains it clearly and is a fair grader. She gives extra credit and the weekly posts are easy, their like free points. Do the practice probs she gives you b4 each exam and you should do fine.
Prof. Tomlin is a good professor. She teaches directly from the book and uses PowerPoint slides to lecture. She gives you a chance at 5% extra credit to go toward your final grade. Econ is a hard class so don't expect to walk in and get an A. Your grade is based on online quizzes, the midterm exam and final exam. STUDY HARD!
she is a good teacher, funny and easy to learn from. She likes it when you speak up and add to the class. exams are based right off power points and she also gives you a practice exam and some questions from the practice exam are put directly on the exam.
She is the best econ teacher at OU that there is, I kid you not. The material is hard but she relates it to the real world to help you better understand. She gives 10% EC if you go to class!
attendance isn't mandatory but you get 5% extra credit and trust me you need that. the class is based on 3 tests and 10 online quizzes. really hard, but i managed to memorize the review before the test and guess well. the material is super confusing and she goes throw it once and thinks everyone understood it when only 5 kids in the whole class did
This teacher is awesome! Even though her quizes and exams can be somewhat tough you learn alot. She gives 5% extra credit for doing in class assignments. Recommend taking this class she is the best teacher for ecn.
The tests are hard. Like not even like the practice exams. Don't expect anything from the quizzes to help you. She teaches to much like its a level 400 course do not take!
She reads off PowerPoint slides. Only 3 tests with way too much material crammed in. I felt rushed taking an exam with over 40 questions/problems in less than an hour. You don't get the tests back and there is no homework so it makes things with a tutor a little difficult. There is a weekly online quiz and an opportunity for 5% extra credit.
She is terrible, do not even bother if you struggle with this subject. She could care less if you understand the material. Her exams are impossible and she doesn't give homework to help your grade, its all based on the exams. Shes boring she just goes through slides, no point in going to class. Her main concern is getting through all of the slides.
This class was hard for me. There is a lot of material being thrown at you and her tests were harder than her quizzes. She does give practice exams which were helpful sometimes. She seems like she didn't care about the students as much. She was sick the whole semester and always 5 minutes late. She was at least better than my other Econ teacher
Always 5 minutes late. Seems to be confused every time she lectures.
Tests are worth a lot so it is easy to fail. I failed because I did bad on the test. Online work is 10% (only grade aside from test) in class work is extra credit. Treats the class as if everyone is an business major. Really boring.
90% of your final grade is based off of 3 exams. Her exams are somewhat like the practice exams she hands out, which is helpful. You definitely have to work for a good grade, but shes a pretty good professor.
Lots of practice problems was very helpful, tried to make less boring. Definitely not a bad professor
This class was HARD. 2 tests are worth 90% of grade, & online quizzes the other 10%. There's 5% extra cred if you attend class. I have a 3.85 GPA; I got a 75 on the 1st test, & an 80 on the 2nd. On the first day, she came into class and said "I see some of you are retaking this class with me!" If you don't need to take this class with her, don't.
I have affection for that semester because of this class don't expect a good GPA but you might learn something worth learning
She was horrible. Every lecture was monotone. Didn't seem like she cared about the class or the subject at all. There was no homework, grade was based off of quizzes and tests only.
Tomlin didn't seem to care much about her students. She simply said the information necessary to pass the class. After out first exam we only had to have class M/W and did a worksheet at home on Fridays. The worksheets & practice exams were what helped the most since the questions were very similar to the exams. Study those and you'll pass.
Lectures are an incoherent mess. You end up being so lost that you have to do assignments in class to understand what she's talking about. Project directions are very vague, but she seems to want very specific answers. All in all, worst econ prof I've had at OU
i spent more time learning from googleyoutube than trying to understand her lame excuses for a "lecture"
Worst teacher. Exams are 90% of you final grade and over 60% of the kid in my class failed all them exams including myself. I studied 4-5 days in advance for all the exams and still failed. If you take this course you will be wasting your money. She is hands down the worst teacher. She never explains anything and gives no chance to improve grade.
3 exams worth 90% of your grade and weekly online quizzes worth 10%. in class assignments are worth extra credit. class isn't too difficult, just put the time in. her lectures are pretty useless, but she keeps all of her powerpoint notes on moodle. wouldn't take again, but it could've been worse.
Never get the concept easily understood in class i need to read it at home.
Professor Tomlin is one of the worst professors I have ever taken in my MBA program here at OU. She forces students to memorize formulas that they will likely not use in the future, her lectures are drawn out and impossible to glean any information from, she gives ridiculously long assignments and grades brutally. DO NOT take classes with her.
This is a 200 level course that she treats like a 400 and above. There is NO curve. Her 2.0 is a 70%. It is a ridiculous that she explains attendance is not mandatory, yet there are daily in class assignments. She will give "extra credit" but you can only earn up to 5%. If she wanted to be a doctor, Dr. Tomlin, she should have went to med school
She's not boring, but she's not interesting either. She managed to turn a fun subject for grad students into 3 hours of watching her derive formula's every week. She doesn't seem to grasp the concept of grad school. Or perhaps she doesn't grasp the subject well enough to explain its concepts with words. Either way, not recommended.
I took her class for econ 201, & thought it was a really good class. She knows what she is talking about and answers questions throughout class. She sometimes makes jokes, and the hour goes by pretty quickly. On exam days there were probably 40 more people in class that never showed up for lectures. Probably those are the ppl giving her bad reviews
Quite honestly, the worst 'teacher' I've had during my tenure at Oakland. She rambles on as if she is teaching people on the same level as her. Doesn't really respect her students and thinks that she is supreme. Not a fan of her teaching style. Would not recommend to anyone who wants to strive in their career.
Pretty straight-forward professor. Took this class over a 7 week summer semester so it went by pretty fast but other than that, no complaints.
Dr. Tomlin is one of my favorite teachers. She adds some fun to the lesson and provides detailed examples of the material. Use the Study Plan on MyEconLab and you'll get 100% on all of the homework and do well on quizzes and tests. Read the book. Come to class. You'll pass.
Tries to be your friend, fails. No late work is accepted, if you don't show work you don't get graded. Felt like a high school teacher.
Professor Tomlin has a great understanding of Economics and provides many real world examples but is not always willing to help students. There are days that she is helpful and kind to students and other days where she would refuse to answer any questions on assignments and she picks on people for no reason.
I'm currently taking ECN303 w/ Tomlin for W2016. I have 5 classes altogether and feel that my workload in this class is as much as at least 3 of my other classes combined. Her lectures tend to be fast paced and you cover a lot of material which you are expected to use immediately on in-class assignments. Take her only if you want a challenge.
Tomlin is a very clear lecturer. Her notes are Powerpoint slides made from the textbook. The textbook was easily the most well written and effective textbook I have ever had. Extra credit from in class assignments secured my 4.0. Tests are easy. I skipped many days but because her lectures are essentially the textbook, I was fine. Recommend her.
Econ 303 is a tough class, and this professor just makes it worse. Unclear grading structure makes the projects incredibly difficult to do well on. Exams, presentations, and projects are taken from the book manufacturer, most of the time doesn't line up with the class. Worst of all she will cram in one chapter the day before the exam and test on it
Dr. Tomlin is a great professor. She commands respect, and those who challenge it instantly regret it. Study moderately and you'll do well in the class. Definitely pay attention as much of the course can be learned through her clear lectures. She does teach rather quickly, but the class WAS only an hour. I'd take her again if I take Econ again.
She is a great professor for econ. I've had many bad econ teachers before and she is by far the best I've ever had. She explains everything very well in lecture and if you take notes from those lectures to study you will do well. Highly recommend her for econ.
Professor tomlin is a really good teacher. Her lectures are very clear. Gives lots of examples. As long as tou are respectful she'll respect you. Definitely recommend her.
This class could have gone a lot smoother if Professor Tomlin was not so snotty. It seemed like she always had an attitude, and ultimately seemed as if she did not enjoy her job. Do not show up late, and be ready to teach yourself. She never broke down the material, simply ran through it as if we were economist. Only take if your ok with a C/B.
Dr Tomlin comes off as a little mean at first but she is actually a very funny and caring professor. weekly quizzes and online hw; study study study for exams
Average teacher. Offers 5% extra credit throughout the course of the semester and grades through multiple choice tests. Somewhat dry lectures, but doesn't usually take the entire class time. Would take again as she's good at explaining concepts.
Professor Tomlinson is a good professor compared to some other economics professors at OU... She had weekly quizzes and online homework and when it was close to exam time, she always went over exactly what we would need to know on the exam. There were no trick questions, just straightforward which was great. Reading the textbook helps A LOT too.
This class was terrible. Graded on 2 exams and 4 projects. I spent hours researching for each project and she graded very harshly and without explanation. The lectures were slow and dull and unprepared. The 2 exams had a ridiculous amount of content on them and should've been broken up into 4ish exams. Don't take if you care about your GPA.
This professor is incredibly rude and does not care about her students at all. She tells you she has 150 students and does not have time for your problems. If you ask her a question she will make fun of you and act as if you're stupid for not knowing. Theres in class work which she grades for correctness, online homework and quizzes.
Not a big fan of this professor. She isn't clear on what she expects when it comes to exams. She moves very quickly through her lectures so if you can quickly comprehend, then this class is for you. She makes in class assignments extra credit but be weary of her grading (it isn't accurate). I wouldn't take her tbh.
Do not take at all costs. Only three exams including the final, homework is impossible, and lectures are pointless since she just reads off the PowerPoints that she did not make.
Homework up to the neck. I took the 2 hour T-Th class and I couldn't listen to her for more than 30 minutes. Lectures are unorganized and boring, handwriting is extremely sloppy and for some reason she made the practice tests SO much easier than what the actual tests were, so that kinda catches you off guard.
She took the time to meet with me after class to explain different concepts that I didn't understand in class. Economics is hard in general but she made it slightly easier to understand and went through exactly how certain numbers got there.
Best way to learn is to show up to class, and read the textbook on your laptop. For projects, she will literally take points off if you don't simplify SIMPLE things like (5+5) + 4 to 10+414. That's ridiculous to me after having taken much higher level math. Like clearly I typed the GDP or whatever into the calculator... who shows THAT much work?
Used Launchpad which frequently had technical issues, & wouldn't submit homework right. Spent the lectures reading from the Powerpoint, & not always fully explaining concepts. Exams are extremely hard, and I'm glad I didn't fail & have to retake. Got grades back extremely quickly though. She curves some exams & offers at least 5% extra credit.
WORST CLASS EVER she is the worst prof ever. Her lectures are super boring and it all based on her opinion. Her exams are super difficult. Her extra credit is worth nothing. Everyone I know has failed her class and I will never take a class with her again.
This class is THE hardest class I have ever taken. Prof Tomlin lectures every class period by printing out a PowerPoint and writing on it. Whenever you ask her for help, she just points out the flaws on your in-class assignment and doesn't answer your question. On the homework, forget the notes! You'll more likely find the answers on Quizlet.
Dr. Tomlin is a welcoming and entertaining professor. Her lectures are very helpful but not mandatory. The only reason you wouldn't 4.0 this class (lol me) is if you didn't study for the exams (also me). A little work goes a long way for an easy A in this course.
I recommend to never take a course w her. Does not care about students or your feelings. Makes it obvious she does not like her job. She isnt approachable. Homework is confusing and unclear. HARD grader. Clarify what 2+2 is or get 1/8 points on a question. Complains about sloppy work yet her handwriting is sloppy. Pointless to even go to class
Professor Tomlin only gives two exams, a mid-term (4 Chapters), and a final (11 chapters). Both are weighted incredibly heavy, so if you blow one, you're done. She has Homework through Connect, and "Projects" that are increasingly hard. I wouldn't take again, she is a nice person, but her class structure is terrible for anyone with other classes.
Tomlin is my favorite prof at OU. She's very caring and loves teaching. Makes the subject interesting and I 100% would take her again and recommend her wholeheartedly. If you practice good study habits you can easily get an A
Not good.
Good Luck. she doesn't even care to answer questions. Passed me with a 1.9.
Dr. Tomlin is a very nice person, but she is a horrible teacher. Goes way too fast and lectured are very unorganized and boring. Avoid unless you are an econ genius
Shes insane! Do not take her! She has not given a student an A in the past two years for ECN 3030! Majority of grades she gives are Cs and Ds. Homework is timed and exams make up 50% of your grade. NEVER take a class with her, EVER! She genuinely does not care about you or your grade. She wouldnt let me do extra credit to improve my grade. Rude!
I had Tomlin for Managerial Economics, and it was the worst class I took at OU. A heap of homework each week, exams were escalated versions of the impossible "projects", and she had a cold demeanor all semester. This class tries to cover too much material in a semester. I would recommend waiting to take this class until a better professor opens up
Dr. Tomlin is great. 3030 is one of the tougher SBA courses but if you put forth decent effort, you will leave having learned a ton about different market structures, government regulation, and how econ relates to all different aspects of business. Take her and work hard, you won't regret it
So much work to do. Doesn't care about you or your schedule. Very unclear on expectations, and quizzes are harder then homework. Exams are few and far between and make up most of your grade so do well or fail. Also very crazy deadlines. Who makes stuff due on a Tuesday!?!
Professor Tomlin ignored every email sent and made it mandatory to attend "supplemental instructions" by her TA to learn the class instead of ever hosting a class herself. The amount of homework was about 5-6 times more than any class I've taken thus far and I've never had a teacher not teach. NEVER take Professor Tomlin, you will greatly regret it
I would not suggest taking Tomlin in an online environment, the only reason I rated her a 2 is because I feel like she would be better in person. She didn't hold any classes, constantly changed the syllabus, didn't post videos online until we begged her to, and made the SI teach her students. The good thing is she did answer my emails.
Professor Tomlin suffers from having worked at OU for too long and having gotten into a lazy rhythm. In her class I see a Professor who at one point probably cared deeply, but over time I think she has gotten lazy, mainly in grading and lecturing. Her lectures are very robotic and seem outdated. Lastly, the final was like no other in difficulty.
Tomlin is awful as a teacher. First-class I failed in my 4 years of college. Lectures are boring and uninspired. They do not prepare you for homework or any projects you may have. She just reads off the PowerPoint and brags about her success to her students. Exams are nothing like homework as the whole class is based on McGraw hill connect.stayaway
HW is easy, EXAMS are very difficult. 4 projects in MH connect. HW & exams are a direct correlation. 2 exams, midterm & Final (cumulative) Small class size is nice, but you need to pay attention. Be prepared to get called out if you are not paying attention. She's very smart but the content could be presented better. VERY HEAVY Lectures. Good Luck!
Horrible. Stay away.
Responds to emails quickly, which is nice. 50% of your grade is the midterm and final combined. The material is extremely hard, and frankly, she didn't make it any easier to understand. Try to find another prof if possible. She lacks enthusiasm which makes it hard to learn from her. VERY HEAVY LECTURES! Exams are nothing like hw or lectures either.
One of if not the WORST professors I've ever had. Lecture-heavy, sloppy & ineligible notes, fast-paced, and does not seem like she ever wants to be on Zoom. Exams are EXTREMELY difficult. Barely gives any study material for exams. She does not care about your grade at all. Would never take her again, nor suggest anyone to take her for any class.
Tomlin lacks the most important part of being a professor: caring about helping students learn. In asking for feedback about a poor grade, I got an: "agree to disagree, but you got an A in the course," insinuating that because of my grade my desire to actually learn the content is irrelevant to her. Truly the worst experience I've had at OU.
Tomlin's class is very challenging, but using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can help prepare for the tough exams. Lectures can be dry, but attending is crucial. Overall, it's a difficult course, but manageable with dedication.
Terrible professor. Lectures for way too long. Also does not care if you pass or fail. If you're struggling, she won't help. I reccommend taking Timothy Hodge at OU for Econ, he is great, cares about his students and answers emails very fast.
Two exams (midterm and final). Both are insanely difficult (80++ questions btw!) and way too long. Throws a whole bunch of info at you during the course. Feels almost impossible to get an A here because of the weight of exams and how long they are, not to mention the multiple 250+ point homework assignments. Nice to have online but not this prof
Out of all the professors at Oakland University, this was hands down the worst professor I have ever had. I do not recommend her to anyone because she doesn't care about your success, and her class averages on tests were Ds across all exams. An hour-and-a-half class, she lectures the whole time, loads you with information, and expects you to know it.
From start to end time she talks about the chapter. She doesn't stop to ask for understanding and is very hard to understand while she explains the lecture. It feels like an advanced class and is very difficult. There are three exams each worth 25% of your grade. She has in class work that is up to 3% extra credit at the end of the semester.
Do not take whatsoever. One of the worst and most inconsiderate people to walk this earth.
It is my opinion after finishing Economics for Managers at Oakland that some of the negative reviews Professor Tomlin received were unwarranted. The material is challenging, but she gave the class every opportunity to succeed. Extra credit, willing to override HW grading errors. My advice is take lots of notes before test time and you will be okay.
She goes through the lectures very, very fast, and it does become hard to keep up. Her exams are around 60 questions each and are not cumulative, and neither is the final. As long as you put a lot of time into studying, it isn't too bad. All of the in-class work goes towards extra credit to your final grade and can accumulate up to 3%.
