Prof is extremely monotone, no enthusiasm when teaching, it's just rambling lectures. Attendance is for a grade and is taken randomly once a week using your location so attend all classes. There are weekly short responses of about 300 words, and 500+ word essays every month. She gets irritated if students leave early even for a doctors appointment.
Doesn't know how to lecture properly, she simply reads off of slides and dumps a bunch of information on us. There are weekly discussions with short answers and attendance is mandatory. We also have in class activities, some of which are graded for accuracy. She is extremely condescending and causes a scene if students leave early for any reason.
Do not take this professor. She will require you to drop money on an online subscription just to read the textbook and do all the assignments. She expects participation from everyone even while she is teaching in a massive lecture hall. She stops class every 10 minutes to berate people whispering or someone exiting the hall. Waste of time and money
She spoke far too quickly, even when requested to slow down, and then finished the content 30mins early
This class is easy if you are willing to do the work and participate. Just make sure you pay attention and attend the lectures. I would take a class from her again!
Easy grades. Free 4.0. All tests online and open note. Nice teacher. A bit strict at first but I think it's more due to a language gap than anything. All negative reviews are from the beginning of the semester when she was less chill.
DON'T TAKE HER.
She quickly reads each slide and then moves on quickly. I would not reccomend taking this class unless you want to learn all the material by yourself. It is not hard to learn, but it feels as if she isn't teaching anything. Also she randomly takes attendance one day a week and randomly has an in class assignment one day a week.
assigns of a lot homework and in class assignments that don't necessarily help with the comprehension of the material. Takes attendance at random and often gives all of those in attendee 100% on the in class assignment because they will glitch and not work.
I don't think she realizes majority of the students take government as a core class and not a degree-required class. Attendance is mandatory and she takes them at random days. Discussion posts every week and in-class activities which are graded. Unless you are an actual government/history major, the class is unnecessarily hard.
She takes attendance and parcipation way to seriously. And the in class activiy is always out of sylabus. She is way to uptight and i learned nothing in her class.
There are 3 classes per week and attendence is taken randomly on one of those three days. There is a weekly in-class quiz each week on the Chapter which is not open note. The most frustrating thing about her is she does not teach she simply reads off of slides, and the questions on the exams have nothing to do with the slides and chapter readings.
There's attendance taken every day and sometimes twice in one day to make sure people didn't mid-way. There is a pop quiz every week and assignments every day. You should read the textbook. She takes off double points for every assignment you lose points on. Exams are locked and if you are a question to long, it will shut off and you get a zero.
She changed her attendance policy from once a week to every class and continues to make class assignments heavy on short answers despite none being on the EXAM. I guess she noticed people stopped going because of her attitude towards the students. She is the worst choice for a government class and she treats college students like highchoolers.
She has changed her attendance and assignments policies at least 3 times this semester. She gets mad when people leave class early. She is now taking attendance 3-6 times a week. There's in class exams with lock down browser every week. She makes us do questions that won't be on the midterm/ final exam. She's rude and the last person you wanna take
too much stress. too many rules. tries too hard to make the class harder than it alrdy is.
(Part 1) Medhi is genuinely the worst professor at UTD and I'm a freshman. I used to love humanities and I'm premed and she managed to suck the life out of learn about an already boring government system. She keeps changing her syllabus, and is paranoid abt ppl cheating that she takes attendance multiple times during class.
(Part 2) I've never seen someone who is so affected by mood swings as Medhi is. She reads off the slides and then halfway thru the sem she made the midterm and final open note and all MCQs. After ppl complained about her god awful teaching style, she shared her slides and then gave us random, timed pop quizzes weekly, with an auto shutoff.
(Part 3) she makes my blood boil bc why are we expected to do discussion posts, reflection papers, and weekly pop quizzes (which are unrelated to the content)? loves to call ppl out when they leave early as if class is smth to stay back for (the class is humongous and idk why she cares). needs to be humbled, fast. can't be caught handling grades.
Changes her syllabus every week, but then tells students to read the syllabus if they have questions. Weekly quizzes, but you don't know when you will have one. Take random attendance a random number of times a week. She is all over the place.
She just reads off the slides and adds a few words that add nothing. She changes her policy almost every week. It used to be random attendance once a week, but now I don't even know what it is. She is way too strict over the smallest thing. Don't take this professor if you want your life to be easier.
Seemed very strict in the beginning, then loosened up her policies when people complained. Gives pop quizzes that you WILL FAIL if you don't read. At first she took attendance randomly once a week, now she takes it multiple times a week. The only upside is the exams are take home and open note but dont take her.
This is a required government class for freshmen where Professor Medhi will just recite the slides and change the wording here and there. Don't bother taking notes during class. Once she's finalized that she's posting the slides online anyways (after many complaints from students) she'll tell you not to so you can "pay attention" to her lectures.
The course itself is pretty light but she makes it harder than it has to be. At first the syllabus was tough but midway she changed her policy and made the test take home and open notes. The lectures are long and boring, no one pays attention becuase she posts the lecture slides. There is an in-class assignment every week with lockdown browser.
Don't recommend this class. The attendance is taken at randomly at random amounts. she has changed her syllabus like 6,000 times and then says use the syllabus to answer any questions u may have about the class. she herself isn't a good prof either cause she basically reads off the slides and then expects us to do well in her in-class assignments.
This class is pretty easy because in the beginning she made the syllabus ridiculously hard but after many complaints, she made the class genuinely easy. Idk why she has so many bad reviews, but just show up to class get that attendance and sleep, then the weekly in-class assignments but those are easy as well if you know what you are doing iykyk.
Prof Medhi is outstanding. Their passion for government and dedication made the class engaging. The negative feedback likely might've come from those who struggled with the workload, I found prof to be incredibly supportive and clear. I learned so much and appreciated her commitment to helping us succeed. I am retaking her class next semester.
I absolutely loved Dr Medhi's State and Local Government class! The way she structured the course made it so easy to follow and understand, even for someone like me whose major isn't in this area. My friends and I all agree that her teaching has made us appreciate this subject so much more, and now I find myself genuinely loving it!
Dr. Medhi was amazing! She started with a lot of work for the course but did a midterm survey and reduced it based on feedback. No other UTD professor I've had has done that. I really appreciated it—hands down the best govt. professor!
Given that it was not one of the core classes, the amount of hard work dr medhi did for all of us is commendable. i really loved it and she inspired me to do better in the class and i am so excited to have her as my prof again in the spring again.
Her lectures are can get kind of dry but are mandatory with attendance. She rolled back the amount of work she gives in the middle of the term based on feedback. 1 in-class assignment and 1 at-home assignment weekly, and 2 exams, 3 papers. My biggest grievance: you're required to buy a $80 subscription for TopHat to participate in her class.
Dr. Medhi listened to our feedback and lightened the assignment workload halfway through the semester. The textbook and most assignments are through TopHat, which you have to pay about 80 bucks to access. She takes attendance randomly, sometimes once a week or more. In class assignments are also random. Make sure to read the textbook ahead of time.
Her syllabus lists all the stuff that she does throughout the semester. Weekly in class assignments once (three classes a week) + Weekly discussion posts (easy) + attendance + midterm + final exam + 3 reflection papers (graded very leniently). If you are willing to come to class regularly and are interested to learn new things, this is your class.
Loved all the documentaries Dr Medhi showed us with her classes. She tries real hard to make the concepts easier for her students. State and Local government with her was amazing. Got to learn so much. Used data and research to show us different perspectives of the same issue. I learnt a lot about reading plots and diagrams. Overall a great class .
Dr Medhi made this semester a great learning experience for me. I really appreciated her support, especially during my personal emergency. Her kindness and understanding during my difficult time meant a lot to me. The knowledge gained in her class will be invaluable for my future endeavors.
Thank you Professor Medhi for making 2305 such an engaging and rewarding experience. Your clear teaching style and openness to student feedback created an excellent learning environment. Studying government during an election year has been particularly fascinating, and I've gained valuable insights into how our political system works.
Prof Mehdi truly cares about student learning and it shows. Course was challenging in the beginning but she listened to student feedback and made adjustments that helped us succeed.her dedication to teaching, desire to explain difficult concepts until we understood them is remarkable. Started tough but ended up being one of my favorite professors!
This class requires a lot of effort. The in-class assignments turned from participation credit to correctness based credit randomly in the middle of the semester. These assignments are based on the textbook, which you must read if you want good marks. Reflection papers are easy, TA said a garbage essay gets you a 28/33. Exams are easy and online
Definitely the easiest class taken so far. Make sure you do well on your midterm and final and you'll be fine. If you show up to class, it's an easy A.
Dr. Medhi is is really receptive to student feedback and changes her expectations accordingly, which I appreciated. But she also was strict about certain things. I hated her attendance methods and found those so unnecessary. I also don't like how she changed in class quiz grade criteria from participation to accuracy randomly during the sem.
Dr. Medhi is a tough grader. She gives a lot of in-class assignments, homework, and discussion posts weekly. If you are someone not majoring in political science, then consider taking other professors. Taking her is not worth it. There is lot of effort to put, if you take her. Attendance is taken on any random day. Easy A. Exam- open book+open note
Mediocre professor. Slides she uses are unorganized and sometimes hard to read. Tries to force class participation sometimes waiting for someone to raise their hand and talk. Tests are open textbook/notes and are doable even if you don't attend class. Random attendance checks though so if you're looking to get an A you have to go to class.
Dr Medhi is amazing! She put in so much effort to help us understand govt concepts and actually made the class interesting with all the documentaries and real examples. Even tho this was just a required class she made me actually care about learning the material. Super understanding professor who really listens to student feedback.
Her syllabus was super organized and clear which I absolutely loved! As someone who really appreciates structure, Dr. Medhi's class was perfect for me - she laid out all expectations clearly from day one. You know exactly what's due when and what to expect in class.
A bit strict on attendance but totally worth taking her!
Mandatory attendance and lots of participation, but Dr. Medhi's teaching style makes you actually want to show up!
Overall a good professor. Lectures are very interesting, so it was easy to retain info. Exams were easy too. Syllabus changed often which was annoying, but it was easy to work around. Very forgiving with grades; we got opportunities to redo assignments. Not my number 1 option, but I wouldn't mind having her again.
super chill prof who actually listens when we say there's too much work
ngl was dreading govt class but she made it actually interesting
tbh didn't expect much from a govt class but prof medhi changed that quick. her syllabus is crystal clear and she's mad understanding about personal stuff. plus her grading isn't trying to destroy your gpa. solid prof fr
heads up about the random attendance checks but honestly worth going to class. she makes politics actually interesting with real examples and isn't trying to fail anyone. changed my whole view on govt class ngl
If you are willing to come to class regularly and are interested to learn new things, this is your class
What makes Prof Medhii different is how she connects with everyone during lectures. She'll notice confused faces even in the back row and stop to explain things differently. Makes a huge lecture hall feel way more personal.
Appreciate how Prof Medhi handled our concerns about the course. Instead of just pushing through with her original plan, she listened when we said we were overwhelmed and found a better balance. Shows she cares more about us learning than sticking to a rigid schedule.
t was all very wonderful and I wouldn't change anything. Dr. Medhi was very accommodating and adjusted the course load as necessary for our class
Professor medhi allows students to retake assignments and was very good about addressing students concerns.
The way Dr Medhi is very understanding, I really liked how she made us take a survey half way through the semester to analyze how she could improve on certain aspects of her course, I believe everyone in the course was thankful for this of her part.
For me personally, the deadline times were great and easy to handle. The best thing is the practice exam questions which she shared instead of a discussion board to make us ready for the exam. The practice questions truly enahnced my understanding and helped me prep for the exams.
Dr. Kashmiri is one of the best professors I ever had. She makes the class really interesting and has great guest speakers and documentaries. Her tests are easy if you just show up to class and do the reading.
One of the best professors at UTD! So much passion for what she teaches! Knowledge of government is awesome!
Take her for credit and the exams are easy
Difficult to understand and gave unclear instructions, continually changed syllabus without giving updated copies, not a difficult class but she required multiple assignments and never clarified what she was looking for. towards the end of the semester she was taking attendance for a grade multiple times per class.
Dr Medhi is an enthusiastic professor. Tests are straight from book,powerpoint/noted stuff from lectures. Tests are super easy, read the chapters/slides before the test and you're golden.
I'm taking this class as a senior to finish my govt credit and as a GPA boost and let me just say that of ALL the professors I've taken, she is the only one who takes this class so seriously. She breathes down people's necks and will yell at you if youre not working. Doesn't tolerate tardiness or missed classes. DON'T TAKE HER. She's rude & petty.
I am taking her for state and local govt, hands down one of UTD's best ones. Love her class.
Dr Medhi would make u feel welcomed to ask questions during the class and if she sees you struggle, she takes that into account and further provides resources and it honestly feels so good. You can tell she wants you to succeed
Dr Medhi's class is really easy, 4 exams and chapter questions as weekly homework. Random attendance once a week. Looking at previous comments it looks like she has changed her syllabus quite a bit.
I really enjoyed using TopHat and felt I learned better with this recourse. I enjoyed the 3 essay assignments.I felt that It deepened my understanding of the topics. I enjoyed how the exams are set up and very straightforward. I appreciate the professors willingness to listen to students and impliment it into the class.
I hope this professor doesn't lose her enthusiasm for an engaging classroom due to the lack of participation. I'm shy to speak up, but it makes me sad to see the overall class remain silent when it's clear she's passionate about fostering engagement. I genuinely hope she has more responsive students in the future—she definitely deserves it.
I was so excited to take this course, but it was a negative experience because of the professor's lack of organization. She completely changed the syllabus multiple times within the first month so that students could teach it instead of her and gave everyone random grades. She does what she feels like without the sylabus and does not answer emails.
The textbook in general was not well organized. I think there could have been a free version uploaded on e-learning. Also TopHat always has technical issues which makes it a terrible platform for learning. Overall, I loved the Professor as she was passionate about the subject matter and with minor improvements this class would be more enjoyable.
Great professor, who truly cares about students and evaluates us all equally and fairly, no additional comment on the quality of the educational experience since it was pretty great.
I took Professor Medhi in the Fall 2024 semester. Open note exams, easy assignments, easy class. I only really had to take notes to prepare for the in-class quizzes. She was very forgiving; I finished but forgot to turn in one of my papers & she let me turn it in late with no consequences. She also drove me to vote, which was extremely kind of her.
Course design makes it very easy to make an A in the class. However she takes attendance randomly and will often have pop-quizzes. Exams were take-home. There are a couple essays but the prof was nice enough to actually reduce the amount of essays we had to do mid-semester. Essays graded very easy.
The prof did a great job listening to students feedback and truly changing the course based of the feedback. I enjoyed how the tests were open notes as for me it placed less of an emphasis on memorization and more on evaluating ideas. The reflections papers were a great way in assuring students had the abilities to critically think about topics.
It is all very wonderful and I wouldn't change anything. Dr. Medhi is very accommodating and adjusted the course load as necessary for the class. I am taking her 2305 this Fall.
lectures are very engaging especially for a core course. despite the professor not being super experienced, her enthusiasm for teaching has always been clear and it is obvious that she cares about the well-being of her students.
I am taking her 2306 govt now and love the structure, four exams, lowest dropped and weekly homeworks. I believe it is so much doable and think in general the course is well planned out and executed by her. I believe the changes that need to be made are minor in the future.
I took her lastfall and think the only think of this course that should remain the same are the amount of work load. All the homeworks, reflection papers, quizzes and tests were the only materials that really helped me learn the course work. As well as the lectures were pretty organized as well.
I took her class last fall. It was all very wonderful and I wouldn't change anything. Dr. Medhi was very accommodating and adjusted the course load as necessary for the class.
The teaching style and format is very well done. Top Hat is a good resource and I find it is better for learning in the classroom than a regular textbook. The attendance taking strategy is good and promotes students to go to class. The professor allowed students to retake their assignments and was very good about addressing students concerns.
All tests are take-home (y'all know what that means lol). I finished all of the semester's homework assignments in an 8-hour sitting during the first week of class. I wish the prof would say something when people leave class early, if she's structuring it to be this easy, the least us students can do is stay the full time out of respect for her.
The overall structure of the course for the semester was great, and I think the Professor is an amazing person who is really passionate about her field. Her compassion and openness to feedback were very appreciated. She wants students to learn and I hope she continues to care about teaching the way she does.
The overall communication and effort she put in was excellent - Even with a large number of students I felt valued as an individual -Weekly in class assignments (which are not graded) and practice exams were nice and pushed me to think critically about topic
The grading criteria was never made clear by the professor and her course didnt follow the syllabus for the majority of the semester. The entire class was unorganized and things like the midterm exam's format kept changing up until the literal day of the exam. You could rarely reach her through email and she had a condescending attitude throughout.
Great professor, who truly cares about students and evaluates us all equally and fairly, no additional comment on the quality of the educational experience since it was pretty great...
This class was poorly organized. The lecture style kept changing, and I felt like a lab rat in a teaching experiment, not a student. I never knew if we were going to watch a documentary+write a short essay response, or fill out a Google Form for practice, or have a lecture during class. She put everyone's exam scores on the screen in class.
I think the in-class assignments are a good way of testing our knowledge. I think that, discussion posts and the take-home exams should remain the same! I loved Dr. Medhi's teaching.
The formatting of course was easy to understand and provided very good preparation, assessments without being overwhelming. I was able to learn lots of new information from Dr. Medhi and she is very knowledgeable and passionate. The MS forms were also a class assignment I enjoyed that provided learning material outside of just the normal lectures
Overall a good class, sometimes dr medhi gives informal assignments in which we learned about contemporary issues as it pertains to state government. for me, they were among the most interesting and engaging aspects of the class.
The ONLY reason I didn't give 5 stars is because how rushed the end of the semester was. I could tell some assignments I completed got lost or never graded and she just rounded everyone's grade. She started grading attendance halfway into the semester. I LOVED her, but I truly deserved an A+ and was robbed of that.
She will make you feel like you are in high school again. You aren't allowed to whisper a question to the person next to you regardless if it's about the lecture or not. This happened a little bit ago and those 2 people were kicked out of the class. The policies are good (open note open and book tests) but her strictness does not match that.
I wish she'd have called more people out in the class, and gave had more consequences to such behavior, and overall just took more control. Many students talk and try to overpower her in such a large class. This whole course is hers to lead, and I hope she really commands the room, because if so her class would be great.
The class is easy and is a nice person but the lectures are not good mostly examples and not definitions/specifics
I haven't talked to her one-on-one, but she seems nice. She occasionally calls ppl out on talking while she talks, which is understandable. 2 mo. into the semester, she started doing free-response "quizzes" with 4-5 questions, requiring you to finish within class (which became tedious, almost felt like she was purposely trying to make it harder?)
I liked that Prof. Medhi used sources that weren't TopHat. I especially appreciated that near the end of the course, we started discussing current events going on in different states and how those events tied into state government structures. The documentaries were good for that purpose too - in depth and relatable examples help a lot.
lectures are engaging esp. for a core course. despite the professor not being super experienced, her enthusiasm for teaching has always been clear and its obvious that she cares about the well-being of her students. she takes student concerns seriously, willing to adjust her teaching methods based on feedback she gets from us, which is appreciated.
Great Professor. She will sometimes do in class free response quizzes but they are only a completion grade. Weekly homework that is super easy, random attendance but she takes them most classes, the tests are at home open note with 24 hours to do it. Overall she's a good lecturer, professor and you're pretty much guaranteed an A in the class.
shes just annoying and nobody cares about this class- people only come for attendance. its easy unless you skip (DONT SKIP)
I think the only think of this course that should remain the same are the amount of work load. All the home-works, reflection papers, quizzes and tests were the only materials that really helped me learn the coursework. As well as the lectures were pretty organized as well.
Exams are online so its an easy class. She makes attendance mandatory which is annoying and sometimes does odd things like kick students out of class for no apparent reason. Take her.
The teaching style and format was very well done. Top Hat is a good resource and I find it is better for learning in the classroom than a regular textbook. The attendance taking strategy is good and promotes students to go to class. The prof. allowed students to retake assignments and was very good about addressing students concerns.
The overall structure of the course in the semester was great, and I think the Professor is an amazing person who is passionate about her field. Her compassion and openness to feedback were very appreciated. She wants students to learn and I hope she continues to care about teaching the way she does.
I think the deadline times were great and easy to handle. The best thing is the practice exam questions instead of a discussion board. No one in those is actually trying to discuss, they're just trying to meet a word count. The practice questions actually furthered my understanding and helped me prep for the exams.
The TAs are absolutely horrible. Professor is unreachable by email, but that's understandable as she has a lot of students, but what about the TAs? If no one responds, who will the students reach out to if they face technical difficulties?
I really enjoyed how the exams were open-book and note. I liked how the instructor let us leave early when the material was done for the day. The course was pretty well-organized as each assignment and chapter was clarified early on in the semester. I also enjoyed how all of the assignments were open at once so we could do them at our own pace
Prof Medhi is amazing!!!! Super caring and interactive with the class. The content is really easy and there are great documentaries played in class that are very interesting from time to time. Only thing is because the class is so big she doesn't respond to emails, but you would rarely need to email anyone in this class anyways. Highly recc:)
Tests are online, Lectures are usually long and boring but the class is very easy overall.
Assignments and attendance is through TopHat, 1 chapter (like 10-20 questions) due every week. Do them in advance bc they're all open. Go to lecture for attendance only and do other work, she usually would take it at the end of lecture. Exams are online, open 24hrs, and super easy/open note/open slides. Take her class.
- Actively kicked students out for being late (to a 400 person class) but regularly started lectures late. - Grades were a mystery all semester. - End of term, everyone had grade discrepancies and despite posting and emailing, received no response.
Professor should totally continue teaching this class because students like how she present new material.
We weren't supposed to email the professor and the grading all got messed up to the point where people were marked as near-failing when they shouldn't have been with no response for nearly a week from TAs. Exams were easy.
