Best history prof. Learn a lot/have fun. Easy work. I wanted to go to class.
One of those rare profs who change the way you view things. Take her classes.
She made me want to come every day. I learned a lot.
You've made learning history so interesting. This isn't dead white guy history
Learn lots and don't even realize it in the process! Very fun-Best MU has!

Kat's one of the coolest people I have met. She deserves a SEXY!
Best teacher I've had at MU. Loved going to class and learned a lot from her.
Loved her; difficult but fun; spirited discussions; thought provoking coursework
The best class I've had to date. Her knowledge is vast and she presents the info in a fun, thought-provoking manner. I learned a lot from her. Also, she was quite helpful on the occassions that I had a question or concern. One of the best profs at MU.
One of the best history profs I have had. She is great! I learned tons!
Best teacher I've had! I learned more in her class than in any other!
Very cool, very liberal, very vague. Good teach

good professor. she is extremely helpful
Awesome teacher. Really makes you think. I respect her more now than I ever thought that I would.
Great Professor...Very Student Oriented...She's GREAT!!!What else can I say...I'm her GA!!! :-)
Kat Williams is the best professor at Marshall!
Too liberal, but grades very well. I just think at times her teaching is a bit biased, but hey as long as she gives A's she can say what she wants.
Was one of 3 guys in U.S. womens history class. Thought I was in for a semester of man-bashing but the class was very fun and informative. excellent teacher, very student oriented.
Kat rocks my world!! She deserves a t-shirt with her face screen-printed on it!!
Awesome professor! Very intelligent and wonderful personality. You can tell she is on of the rare people who truly cares about her work and her students. The required readings sucked but I read them and learned a lot. I wish she taught more classes.
Dr. Kat is awesome! Great teacher! took her class 3 years in a row!! Loved it!

This is the only class I actually enjoy going to. She keeps everything interesting, and she is very helpful. I'm glad she decided to come to Marshall because she is one of the best teachers I've had here.
What a feminist prof should be (attention: Dr. Jackson)! Interesting, thought-provoking lectures, challenging assignments, and a pleasure of a professor. What more could one ask for in a class?
Very good instructor, very funny too. I enjoyed her class vry much and learned more about history than I ever did in Dr. Lutz's class. She doesn't give tests, just one essay question. She is very liberal though. Would take her again.
Great teacher. Wish I could take her for every history class I need. Loved the 60's music in class. Liberal and takes opinions for either side of issues even if she doesn't agree with it. Take her class.
i did not like this professor. i believe she is a self-absorbed hypocrite. however, i will give her credit, her lectures were interesting and if you agree with her point of view, there should be no problem with getting an A in her class.
hmm,why will shetalk about the injustices done to every minority in the history of this country but when we talk about Nam there is NO mention of how the bad the vets were treated when they came home,i bet i know why,b/c some of the vets were WHITE MEN
yes, you're right...one sentence certainly does it justice...i stand corrected
This was an awesome class. Dr. Kat is very intelligent, a great speaker, and very entertaining. I learned a lot in this class and truly looked forward to going.
READ THE BOOKS and go to class and you'll be ok. she's very very interesting...best history teacher i've ever had! there are no tests...we wrote essays instead.
GREAT TEACHER VERY HELPFUL WITH EVERYTHING IN CLASS AND GOOD LOOKING TOO. VERY INTERESTING AND ENJOYABLE LECTURES GOOD EXPERIENCE
gives me a headache to think of her class. i truly hated it, she was very hypocritical and she hates white americans, especially men. avoid her at all costs.
Best bet for a graduate student. The class has a fair number of men and she appreciates the attendence. She doesn't hate men! Enjoyable, easy to follow. Just read, show up, and have fun.
Dr. Kat has a very biased opinion of almost everything, which is dangerous for a history professor. She is also biased against her students, if she dosen't like you, she'll fail you. I suggest avoiding her.
Course should be changed to Feminism 231. She only shows the civil rights side of the 20th century. Makes fun of kids who ask about stuff not related to the civil rights movements.
very biased-if you are conservative then you might not like this professor. However, I am extreamly conservative, and I stuck with it. Tests are essays you take home. She only gives you the grade you earn, which aren't based if she likes you or not.
Intersting view of history. Essay topics are a little too broad
She is strict on grading, but allows rough drafts which help alot. She gives an interesting view on history that I have never had before. She is a great teacher. But she is really strict on attendance.
Has to be one of the BEST history teachers I've ever had. Very easy and funny, she's a great teacher. ROCK ON DR. KAT!!!!!!!!
Don't take her! Essay topics are broad and she is very biased.
Not a completely "factual" history class. Students learn more about her opinion than they do anything else. But it is a class that helps you understand aspects of history you don't hear so much about. The class is all right, but I would not take
completely biast If you are looking for a history class, don't take her, if you want to hear her opinion everytime you go to class, then this class is for you!
DO NOT TAKE UNLESS 1. you are female 2. you are democrat 3. you actually care about culture and not what was actually going on... ****!
I'm pretty conservative too, but don't let that stop you from taking her. She is fair and fun--just speak up--she'd rather hear that. And she will never be unfair because you are rep.
This teacher is simple: If you are a guy you will fail. If you are girl you will pass. Only focuses on womens sufferage and civil rights. Forgot that there was other events in American History. Steer clear of this demon.
Dr. Williams is a great teacher! She tells your straight up that since it is a SURVERY class, it can focus on anything historical she wants. VERY INTERESTING...no tests and few papers...gives MANY chances for extra credit!
Awesome teacher! Her "simulation" style is great and really helps you learn how to put on someone else's shoes. In class writings are horrible (not just in her class), but ok if you actually read the books. The few papers she gives are graded really easily!
Kat was the best prof. I've had at Marshall. I am a strong republican and I enjoyed her classes! She is interesting and lets you speak your mind-no matter waht sex you are she is fair! I would highly recommend taking this prof.
history was a time to sleep in high school- i hated it, but since ive had williams- shes made me love history! i learn so much! its really interesting, the 1 prob that i had was that i learned alot, but i just couldnt write papers to her standards..but i love the class!
Kat is by far the best teacher I've ever had--fun, fair, and incredibly friendly. She doesn't force you to memorize and regurgitate dates and statistics, but instead actually teaches you (and makes you want to learn) history from a variety of perspectives, not just the white male persp. often taught
I NEVER liked history but Dr.Williams makes it sooo enjoyable. You don't take tests you write papers. She grades pretty hard and attendance is crucial. I dont know what the one person meant by being a "Strong Republican" Rather you are Republican, Democrat or Independent...youll enjoy her class.
I think that Dr. Williams is a wonderfuil history teacher. I have learned a lot from her classes. She makes history more interesting and she is easy to get along with. Take her classes, they are worth it.
She leans a little to left but admits it so I respect her for that. A very good womens study teacher I would reacommend taking her course.
Weird, because I'm a guy and I got an A in this class. Maybe because Kat was clear about assignments. Take good notes and you'll be fine. You don't necessarily have to read all the assignments, but make sure you listen in class. You will learn a lot and have fun doing it. Kat's a keeper.
Do what she tells you and you will do great. DO - go to class, take notes, ask questions. DON'T - come in late, have your cell phone on, read the paper or something else not related to the class! Kat is not into dates, names, and places - which is a good thing! Take her - the best at Marshall!!!!!!
Heard this was an easy class and it seemed like it was... just go to class and listen to the lectures. until we got our essay assignments. never got below a A on any paper since starting college (history major) and got a low grade on the second essay. not a fair grader, nor is she a careful one.
KAT ROCKS MY WORLD!!! She is an awesome teacher, but I wish we got more money back from all those damn books we have to buy. ;)
In class you learn a lot and it is interesting, but she grades really tough and it makes you want 2 not like her. She is also very feminist and it gets annoying because a lot of your assignments are twisted with some liberal spin. You learn, not a lot of work, but it's pretty hard.
I always loved going to History class until I took her. If you are good at tests don't take her because there are no tests and it's all essays. I never figured out what she was looking for in any of the essays and would not recommend her to anyone. A lot of her teaching is imbedded with her cracks at President Bush and her feminism.
Professor Williams is an awesome teacher who is extremely dedicated in her lectures. She exudes great knowledge and passion, and does not bombard the students with tests, rather she gives essays on subjects or about books that she requires you to read. I was definitely impressed by this professor and plan on taking more of her courses.
really great teacher you will learn a lot from her
SUCKS
Kat is awesome!!!!!!!!
She is a great pro. She is very clear during her lectures. The class is all essay so stay away if that is not your area. SHE IS GREAT!
Kat is so totally awesome! She doesn't want you to concentrate on dates but instead on what actually happened and the affects it had on the world. Very inspiring. Very liberal and feminist!
Easy class. You write three papers t/o semester that are well explained and easy. Then you have 3 essays for the take home final, which are just like the 3 papers over the semester. Lectures whole time but never in class for full amount.
I had her for the Women in US history class. It was a pretty interesting class. The only bad thing was that we had to read like 6 books and half of them were TERRIBLE. Fortuantely, two of the books were really good. She has "simulations" instead of tests-which are easy. The final is just an essay. I would recommend her.
prof. williams is awesome. i only had her for the online class, but she was so helpful with everything and grades really fairly. i got an A in her class. i definitely reccomend her.
Dr.Williams was a wonderful teacher! She does a great job at her lectures and they are never boring. This is coming from someone who is not that interested in History! She is always doing her best to make sure you understand and tries to help you out as much as possible. Though attendance is required. I would definitely recommend her.
This professor was absolutely ridiculous. Because of her I will never EVER take an online class again. Her grading policy was horrible. She expected perfect grammer and citations, but in her own notes couldn't even manage to write a simple declarative sentence. The books she has you read never have anything to do with your assignments. Horrid Class
Worst Class I've ever taken at Marshall University and I didn't even have to go to the class. I will never EVER take another online class because of this teacher. Avoid at all costs.
Had to read 3 absolutely horrible books and do discussion questions with your classmates which she would read and then tell you your opinions were wrong if they didn't match hers. Absolutely beastly woman. Don't take her if you can avoid it.
Williams is a terrible online professor. I will probably never take another online class again because she was never clear about what she wanted for assignments and graded really hard. If you take her, don't bother asking for help because it's useless. If at all possible, take someone else for this class.
She may be a good in class teacher from what i read on here, but I have her for online and DO NOT TAKE FOR ONLINE CLASS!!! Not clear, have gotten C's on everything and am actually trying HARD! Im an all A student and she just grades HARD.. AGAIN do NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT take online class with her!!!!!!
Took class online. Class was terrible. Poorly organized and at times almost incomprehensible. Her opinion is very obvious and it does seem to intrude on her teaching. In a survey level history class I really don't want to hear about your opinion on politics or feminism. All readings were from feminist slant. Lazy way to teach a survey class.
This was the worst class I have ever taken. I EARNED an A but was given a B. She is a feminist and very liberal, which is fine but not appropriate for the class. I took this online and if I were you I would not take her online EVER.
I seriously don't know what everyone's problem is. I took her online class for History 230-231. I learned a lot, but also wrote a lot. I didn't try too hard and got B's. She grades on content and understanding of the topics, not so much grammar.
Words can't discribe how much I adore this woman - she has become my mentor. I've taken 4 of her classes and if I weren't graduating I'd take more! Her style rocks-she has you examine all possible persepectives of events through simulations. They're fun, easy, and so much more helpful than regurgitating names and dates. TAKE HER CLASS!!
I took this course online and received no help or feedback. Lectures were interesting but the required literature was not supplemental. Received all A's until midterm and no grades were posted prior. I was failed when final grades were posted and no reason or response when inquiring why. Absolutely do not take her online!!!!
Notes she posts are organized well. Exams are four essay questions; requires two books to be read. Doesn't grade papers as the class goes along and gives very little feedback. Usually justs gives what "meets expectations." Don't think she actually reads a lot of the stuff. Easy, but disappointed with lack of communcation and lack of timeliness.
The problem with Kat isnt the fact she is gay or expects one to read 5 500 page books(dont take baseball in Americas) or the fact she thinks women should rule the world, its her lack of communication. I took her online,no textbook was used. She does make you read 2 books, one is a graphic novel on Vietnam, the other is useless and on immigration.
Absolutely the worst professor I have ever had to deal with. It takes her forever to grade the two tests she gives and gives no feedback whatsoever. If you disagree with her onesided view of world events, no matter how well put together your argument is, your grade will suffer. Avoid her if at all possible. She is a total discredit to the university!
I really enjoyed Kat's class. I took Women in US history from her so of course there was a feminist slant to it. I haven't taken her for other classes so I don't know if she is biased as people say on here or if they simply are taken aback by her demeanor and honesty. I really enjoyed her class.
Course consists of 2 exams. If you don't get a 100% grade, the next possible grade is 81% with nothing between. Required novel is not relevant to the course. Her PDF lectures are average but high school level with parts of them being plagiarized from a series of textbooks. Many of the links do not work. Embarrassing for a college level course. F-
Very interesting! I was always excited to come to class. She Is very enthusiastic about her work! One of my favorite professors
Dr. Williams is brilliant. Anyone who has a problem with this course is obviously lazy and wanted an easy A. People complaining about having to read books? Maybe higher Ed isn't for you. Plus, Kat is hot and totally deserves a chili pepper.
Only showed up to her own class half of the time, which would be okay except we had to be there every day even when there was nothing planned and she was not there.
Worthless lectures. Took two weeks to respond to questions, even though it was only a five week online course. Exams asked questions that refernced things that were not in the lectures or books. The lectures and books were all that you were allowed to use to answer the questions. Very, very politically slanted lectures.
I loved her! I had her my first semester but had to withdrawal from a car accident. When I returned the next semester I had planned on going strictly MWF but her class was only TR, needless to say I made the exception for her class. She's enthusiastic and I found the class interesting. As long as you're there and take notes, the final is take home!
Excellent professor, definitely keeps to her syllabus.
I had Dr. Williams for Online 231 and had the absolute worst experience ever. No email response, little content, the questions presented on midterms and finals were NOWHERE to be found in the lectures. AVOID THIS CLASS ONLINE!
She is a great professor. I have had her twice and as long as you show up and do the assignments with some effort, you can pass and usually get an A. She is hard to contact outside of class.
Over all her lectures were not boring, but there were only 4 grades all semester and she was not clear as to what she expected on the tests. Take another teacher if you can.
Horrible professor. I took this online and she never grades anything. She won't email back. Exam questions featured things that were not in her lecture notes which are the only materials other than 2 irrelevant novels & you can't use outside sources. DO NOT TAKE HER! I'v taken many history courses and have only gotten As, I expect a C tops.
The overall class was very interesting. Dr. Williams is very interested in her subject. I would suggest anyone who takes the class to take it seriously as well. I would suggest treating it like an upper level class. Also, make sure you ask her about your grades, so you don't end up like me with a C in a class you should have an A in.
If you think your midterm and final papers are going to get a good grade think again. I thought I would have an A in this class but thanks to her harsh grading I'll have a C. She does not post grades until she has to. She took 75 points off for a 'good' paper. Would not take her again. Not a fun experience.
This class is a critical thinking class. All assignments are in essay format. Only 2 out of 6 assignments have been graded. Absolutely no feedback on essays. With no grades and no feedback it is near impossible to evolve to they type of writing she is wanting.
Taking her online will be the WORST decision of your life. She never grades. You have a midterm & final for 400 points that if you get a "decent" grade on you don't have a chance. Got 100 points taken off for putting quotes. Lecture notes will not help for your finals cause the material is not in there & you can't use outside sources. Hated my life
She is my all time favorite professor at Marshall! Love her passion for history and she breaks down everything to make it more understanding! LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would not recommend this class to anyone. Extremely hard grader on every single assignment. Does not post grades and you cannot get ahold of her outside of class. If you are required to take this class take someone else. Her lectures are long and you must attend every class to get all of the notes. Just do yourself a favor and avoid this class.
Was really excited for this class as a feminist myself, but Dr. Williams ruined it for me. Took this opportunity to talk about her personal opinions and did not really allow much discussion. Just wanted students to agree with her. Also did not follow her syllabus and maybe put in three grades for the entire semester.
I was very excited about this class, but once I got in this class I dreaded it every Tues/Thurs. She did not allow for much discussion (even though that was supposed to and she did not go by her syllabus at all. Do not recommend her at all.
She teaches in a very heavy lecture style so expect to take a LOT of notes. Very anal about tardiness and no phones in the classroom. She also only has about 2-3 essays being the only grades save a few small assignments. That being said, its an interesting class that offers a different teaching approach from any other history prof. a Marshall.
She is a tough grader, and doesn't have rubrics so you don't know where or why she took points off. Her test are take home but they are difficult. They are three essay questions that she grades harshly. You have a midterm and a final. You also have to read two book and take two in-class essay quizzes. She never came to class, but requires you to.
Good lectures but you are graded on very little. She is funny and very knowledgeable.
I regret taking this class. In the discussions for the online class, we were told not to regurgitate information from the lectures given. This is okay, except I wasn't. How am I supposed to answer questions without mentioning the content? Do you just want my opinion? What's the point? She has not been very helpful.
This class was very interesting, I enjoyed the content. However, this professor is not the easiest. While passionate she isn't interested in questions during her lectures until the very end which can be hard. Her final was only on her lectures and in form of a 3 pg essay questions so if you don't take good notes you will have a hard time.
I loved being a student of Kat's history class. She lectures heavy so you always need to pay attention and take great notes. When you write essays for her class they can be a lot, but as long as you have notes and listen then you won't have any problems at all.
Dr. Kat is amazing! She is hilarious, inspiring, caring, and spunky. I hated history before I took her class. She was so genuine about everything she taught and really made me feel like I could succeed. All of her tests are short answer and she grades pretty tough, but if youre willing to put in the work, youll do fine.
Dr. Williams is an incredible professor. She assigns two books for the course of the semester. There are book quizzes, which are "essay" based. The midterm and final are essays as well. Her lectures go very in-depth and she always answers questions clearly. I really enjoyed her class this semester and would recommend her.
Horrible teacher. She often skipped class and left everything on the TA. She was always in a bad mood, never kept her office hours, and wasn't helpful when help was needed. Wouldn't take again.
Loved her! She knows what she is talking about and is hilarious. Not very good about answering emails, but will answer any questions in class. Attendance is necessary for essays and understanding. Takes off points but does not say what for. Overall, she'll make you work for the grade but her classes are great!
I took this class as a hybrid class during the pandemic. Dr. Williams is pretty solid overall, she lectures a lot and splits her class up into around 5 units. One paper, one reading, and one movie per unit. You use the lectures, readings and movie to write the unit paper. Shes also passionate so the lectures are fun, solid choice overall.
You have a total of 5 papers that are 2-3 pages long. The final is 3 essays that are 2-3 pages. In total you'll write 8 essays, and those are your only grades. She doesn't use a text book, but she uses a graphic novel, novel, and other readings. She is very passionate, but you have to go to class and take notes otherwise you're screwed.
Prof. Kat assigns 5 (2-3 page) papers throughout the semester and her final is a 6-9 page paper on her lectures. Take notes! She assigns two books to read and there are a few movies to watch. She's a tough grader. Her paper prompts were often difficult to answer with the information she gives throughout the units.
