Class is fairly easy only because the subject is fairly easy. She's very young so uts hard to take help from her. All in all if you show up and pay attention, you'll do fine. Just make sure you have the right kind of calculator!
Really great teacher. Class is boring... but math is always boring. She gives amazing notes, writes everything on the board and has easy quizzes. DEFINATLY take her.
I think shes a really good teacher. She knows the stuff she teaches and best of all she knows how to teach it. She gives really good examples and lots of them and that helps a lot.
I don't always find her very clear verbally, but her notes are good and she gives quick easy quizzes that count for 25% of the mark! Easy class if you bother to turn up and study a bit.
She is the cutest woman alive! She can't pronounce x-bar or failure but that makes me love her even more. Her exams and quizzes are sooo easy & you can have 6 absences. Take her!
I don't know what these people are talking about. She BARELY speaks english, and she doesn't even know how to explain her own notes. Most of her tests and quizes make no sense at all,and she is the least helpful professor I've ever had.
Just take notes in the class and you will do fine. She is very informative and gives many examples to help you pass the course. Look over classwork and notes and you will easily pass the class.
She gives very good notes but if you are not a big fan of math you'll get bored. I guess that if you read over notes and do all the HW you can do well. It's easy to get bored tho. She is very helpful tho. When it comes time to give the final grade she is very generous!!
good teacher, very helpful, if you take notes the class will be a lot easier then you think
Such a sweet lady.. she knows the material is difficult and tries so hard to make it easy. lots of little quizzes to boost grades, always curves quizzes, midterm, and final.really she does everything possible to get people to do well. i didnt learn a thing and got so frustrated and still got a B-.
She cute, but the fact is she's not a good teacher. She gives absolutely impossible quizzes. She's very much a math nerd and thinks everyone else is too. You can forget about the take home assignments. They're ridiculous. Take her if you're already good at math.
Great class. Shes an inexperienced teacher but a will be good. Her quizzes are usually take home and easy. Tests are mostly from homework. Understandable and easy to work around.
Quizzes and tests are impossible. Doesn't give any credit for shown work. Avoid unless you are VERY good at math.
Dr. Potocka had organized notes that made it clear to understand the course material. However, her tests and quizzes were very difficult. Her class is great for people that are serious about math and are good at it. Still, she delivers the course material in a fresh and upbeat fashion.
fell in love wih her (literally). she is so cute. pretty. distracted me and made me forget about math. wanna take class again. beauty
Seems easy at first, and gets hard very quick. She is organized, but she really can't teach for****. She has a pompous attitude and you must refer to her as Doctor Potacka. Assignments were painfully long.
Tough but fair
Nice lady, knows the material isn't always simple so explains it the best she can, always answers questions very thoroughly & will review homework problems, doesn't check textbook hw, a quiz every other class to boost grades, overall good teacher given the subject, especially if you're a psych major & because you need the class anyway! take her!!
I HATED THIS CLASS!! she gave so many notes where you cant even absorb the info n she gives soo many quizzes which have questions that are there to trick you. She sux at explaining things too.
hard class, but she made it fun and interesting
An overall nice lady, but extremly unpersonal...very hard class, rushes through the notes without fully explaining them..Expect a quiz every friday..likes to take off lots of points for the stupidest things..worked my ass off and got a B..avoid her if u can
She gave lots of examples to help do homework problems. Everything was step-by-step. She was very clear and thorough.
Awesome teacher. Do the homework and you will be fine on the tests. Very smart.
She's very smart, very nice, very helpful, very friendly, a fair grader, and very pretty. She is very good at explaining things. She really wants you to understand the concepts. There are many examples of the different problems in class and in the homework. The tests are 50% homework problems. You can have a double-sided index card for formulas.
Shes the best prob/stat teacher. very effective.
Class isnt terrible, atleast she speaks english and you could basically understand what she's sayin. If you ever plan on gettin out less than 5 minutes early you are crazy though. be prepared to watch all the happy people from across the hall leave and you are still sitting there. only 10 minutes for quizzes, you have to stay after to finish
there is no doubt in my mind that she is a very intelligent, educated women, but she cannot teach for her life. Quiz every single friday and she takes off for the stupidest things. that class is impossible. the only way you won't fail is if you'r reli goid in math. avoid at all costs.you guys owe it to your GPA.
Most boring class ever. She hardly speaks English, and she lectures by reading directly from the notes. The notes are all posted so you never have to write anything, but it makes it a lot harder to pay attention. The class never dismisses early, and the exams are difficult. the only good thing is she makes the final so you are used to her tests
Easiest math class I've taken in a while, and I hate math. No need to take notes, because she posts them online. Quize every week, but they are easy if you study. Midterm and Final aren't bad. Very generouse grader, especially on exams.
She is smart, however she should not be teaching. She gives quizzes every week, and takes off for the stupidest things! She gets really ****y randomly, its hard to tell what mood she is in each day.
She is great at explaining stuff. She is a good teacher and a good person. Stats is a difficult subject and she makes sure that everyone understands. You'll do really well in her course if you study a bit.
She makes math easy to learn. Her lecture notes are very clear and she posts them online before class. Take her!
Very organized. Notes are detailed & a good source of reference. Clear on what she expects from the class. Enthusiastic about teaching. Excellent professor.
eh not my favorite
She is a very nice teacher but gives notes for the entire class. You have about 5 minutes to do her quizzes, but most are easy. She speaks with a Polish accent but her notes are very detailed. Exams are hard, studying is a must.
She is very enthusiastic about teaching and explains everything until you understand it. the course material is difficult but if you study and do hw, you should be fine. she is the director of the prob/stat section for a reason. she is a very intelligent woman and overall a good teacher.
SHE IS THE EASIEST MATH PROF AT RAMAPO. HER CLASS IS SO BORING YOU HAVE TO COPY NOTES FROM THE BOARD. BUT HER NOTES WERE AWESOME. HER GRADING IS FAIR AND EASY AND HER CURVE IS ABOUT 20 POINTS UP. SO YOU WILL PASS WHAT SO EVER. SHE IS ALSO VERY BEAUTIFUL AND VERY NICE. VERY HELPFUL. HER EXAMS ARE 90 % FROM THE QUIZZES SO STUDY THEM.
She has a Polish accent, which is sometimes hard to understand but just pay attention and she's fine. she gives a lot of quizzes, posts the notes online which is very helpful and she is very approachable if you need any help. great professor!
if you want your semester to be miserable as hell...TAKE HER!! I trusted sources here and my semester wasn't too good. She is a PERFECTIONIST!! and I hate math even more.
She is a great professor. Her notes are very well organized and she writes everything she says on the board so it's easy to get all the notes. It is a difficult course but she teaches it really well. If you don't do your hw you probably won't get a good grade, but if you do all the hw and take all the notes then you'll do fine
Hard! Alots of notes! you get an evil stare if you ask questions. if you are not good in math, get out. You need to be able to teacher yourself a bit. All her notes are all online along with the answers to all her homework problems. She curves everything!!! but grades harshly on everything. collects homework. Hard!! A ton of notes!!
She is very nice. This class requires a lot of work but she is clearly the best Prob and Stat teacher at Ramapo, BY FAR. If you have to take this class, only take it with her trust me. She grades so easy, everything is curved, even final averages. If you put in the effort and show up its a very easy A. She also has a cute little accent.
I thought Prob and Stat was going to be hard... not at all! She is head of the math department so she makes the final that all the classes have to take. She curves every test like 30 points. Only downfall is that the class has a lot of homework and a quiz every week but she changes them to take home halfway through the semester. Take her
she is a great teacher. math is not my strong point and i got a 90 on my midterm. she has a slight accent but its not impossible to understand her. always willing to help and gets uncommonly excited about weird math stuff lol! shes a great professor and makes math as easy as its goin to get
SHE IS THE BEST. there are a lot of notes and hw for every section, but that is the only way to do well in the class. you need to put in the effort to get a good grade, but she does a GREAT job of teaching the information to you and making sure you understand it. she curves her exams and final so the class average is an 80. TAKE HER!!
I hate math and I suck at it but I got a 106 on the exam 1 and a 107 on the midterm. She wants to keep her class average at 80 so exams are curved a lot. She speaks English! Notes are online along with the answer key to quizzes and tests. You have to do the hw in order to do well. Unless you are a math genious. Take her.
she is the best math teacher i've ever had in my entire life, and that isn't even an exaggeration. I hated math prior to this class, but she has such a passion for teaching that it shows she really cares about her students. she is such a nice and beautiful woman. I highly recommend her for stats, you will get an A if you put a little effort into it
One of the most WONDERFUL professors at Ramapo. Lecture notes are so clear you could teach it to yourself if you missed class. It's easy to see she's one of those professors who WANTS to be there, rather than just collect a paycheck once in a while. She's even said she loves her job; which is helping her students. I highly recommend her.
very nice woman and very smart but not a good teacher.Hard to understand concepts and takes off alot of points for small errors..tests were hard.
All I can say is TAKE HER IF YOU HAVE A MATH CLASS!!!!! Although the material was really hard SHE CURVES EVERYTHING! She really understands the college student. But seriously, she's great. Curves both exams and the final AND the final grade. What more could you want?
AMAZING teacher. She MEMORIZES her lecture notes! One of the few teachers that enjoys teaching (she gets excited sometimes lol). She counts homework as experiential. Make sure you take her!
She is a wonderful professor. I hate math and somehow I got an A in the class. Just do the homework and go to class and you will get a good grade. She is extremely helpful and actually wants her students to do well. On top of that she is really a sweet person. I would love to take another class with her.
She's great! She makes Discrete Structures very easy to understand, she's very nice and helpful. She's head of the math department and still has a personality, unlike most math teachers.
simply amazing. she curves everything like 30 points and she's probably the best teacher i've ever had.
prob and stats. she's not too bad. there's a quiz every week tho. her notes are online and she doesn't stray from them at all. but make sure you get her wording right/how she wants you to write the answer. she's been real picky about these things lately.
Extremely helpful, very nice person, loves her job. Just do the course work and you'll likely get an A or something close to it. She said she will be changing her last name to Kowal.
Honestly, if you have to take Prob & Stats, she's the ONLY one you should register with... especially if you're not good at Math. She curves both exams and the final and gives you PLENTY of extra credit. Have a feeling she curves final averages too. Uploads all her notes to Luminus, too. Would not have passed with anyone else, I reckon. Take her!
She is absolutely amazing, most helpful professor on the Ramapo College campus, will put her students needs in front of her own if needed. Highly recommend taking her class!
honestly hate this class. She doesn't make sense when she teaches, and if it wasnt for her 25pt curves on tests, almost the whole class would be failing. Like i said, she gives large curves, but even with them people in my class are barely passing
wonderful..She is a epitome of organization which by the way happens to be a requirement of this course. She is the best professor at Ramapo by a stretch. The material is a little tough but she makes it so easy and interesting. simply a pleasure..
a pleasure..
Knows exactly what she's talking about. Very fair grading. Gives lots of examples to teach material.
Kowal is a great teacher. She knows what she's talking about. Prob and Stats isn't the easiest of topics but she tries so hard to make it understandable. She also curves tests/exams.
Well, let's start with the class in general. The discrete structures syllabus is just too much information for one semester. Then her tests are difficult. Combine that with the cumulative final and bam, you've got instant stress. Her tests are so tough, she has to curve them 20-30 points just to get the average up to 80. It's just too much!
Very good teacher, very organized. The material is difficult. Lots to memorize. You also have to make sure you write things EXACTLY how she wants it written. She is very nice though and I am hoping to pull through the course and just get through it!
She is a nice lady but be prepared to NOT ask questions because she will tell you to ask after class or during office hours. She makes it pretty clear that the class time is for her to lecture, that is it. All her classes are long lectures of pages and pages of notes, very annoying. However if you can memorize the notes, you'll do excellent
Quizzes once a week, but she drops the lowest three. Curves the final and midterm so the class average is an 80. Long lectures, but you you pay attention and do the hw, and study it's not that bad. the book is only used for hw problems. nice women, always has a smile on her face.
She is nice, but tough. I personally did not like her too much, VERY picky with every detail of your answer, everything must be written out HER way. Quiz every week, A LOT of homework that is just annoying. She doesn't really answer questions in class, another inconvenience. I did very well in her class, but honestly did not enjoy it.
This professor eats, sleeps, and breathes organization. She is strictly prepared for everything that is going to be covered in each lecture and picks up right from where she was last. The course itself is hard, so she curves exam grades 15-20 points to make the average 80. If you work hard, you will be able to get over 110% on the exams,
She is a sweetheart who LOVES her job in its entirety, but it is WAY too difficult for an entry level course. She goes into the nitty gritty of things even when its completely unnecessary and just further confuses people. Curves over 30 points usual, but its sad that she needs to. Be prepared!!!
If you work hard, you can get an A. She is great at what she teaches. I love her!
Loves her job! Explains the work very well. Quizzes once a week but she drops the lowest three and also curves the midterm and final so that the class average is an 80. If you pay attention and take all the quizzes, you will do fine.
Crystal clear expectations. This course runs like a well-oiled machine. Read the textbook, attend class, take good notes, study the notes, practice using the information by doing the homework, and you will excel.
Dr. Kowal is a great professor. She is very specific when it comes to grading. You need to have every step she teaches in your work or she'll take points off, even if you get the correct answer. The exams are easy. If you memorize the quizzes prior and look over your reading notes and textbook, you'll score well. She curves the exams a lot.
She is a professor that grades you on what SHE says is right rather than what is actually right. Don't expect your tests or assignments to be graded easily at all. As an entry level course she teaches it as a 300 level and think everyone is just as smart as she is. Her class is torture to sit through 2 times a week. Copy ALL notes and youll do well
If you are truly struggling or behind in this class by the 5th week immediately ask to withdraw. The class gets harder and harder and she will keep marking your answers wrong if they aren't exactly what she wants. Wont help you if you are struggling and wont let you withdraw after the 6 week mark even though its before the deadline. Be careful!!!
I admit that she's a good professor, but I don't like the fact that she wants you to do things her way and be extremely specific with what she wants. You'd be surprised to see how many points she'll take off for not following her directions. If you copy down everything she writes and practice over the quizzes or homework, you won't fall behind.
Love Love Love her!! Although this class can feel a little long sometimes, I loved it and I learned so much! She's so nice and helpful and she's a relatively generous grader. She posts her lecture notes online and that makes it really helpful for the exams. If you study and do all the work, there's no reason why you won't get a good grade.
Had her for Discrete Structures and loved it. By far the most organized professor I've had, and she teaches till the very last minute, so don't expect to get out early. Tough grader but outlines EXACTLY how she wants everything done. Go over lecture notes for weekly quizzes + listen to what she says do well. 3 exams, curves to 80 average
She expects you to solve problems exactly as she wants you to. Points will be deducted for little differences. She writes notes on the board during lectures, copy them as she writes them. Notes will be posted online as well as quiz answers for review. HW collected before tests, e.c is given and there was a curve on midterm and final. EXPECT TO WORK
She is really a great professor and so nice, but you have to do the problems exactly how she teaches so be prepared to take a TON of notes. Usually curves hard exams.
Horrible Professor. Automatically sets the curve on tests to 80 because everyone does so horribly. Quizzes every week that are pretty easy and boost your grade. Does not review before tests and lectures are long and horrible. Do not take her!!!!!!!!
I've had Kowal before but for a different subject so I know how specific she is with her methods of teaching. Discrete structures is a difficult course and even with how she taught it, it was absolutely confusing. Get as much help as you can with this course because it just gets harder and harder.
Dr. Kowal was one of the best math teachers I have ever had. She writes down everything you need to know on the board. It is up to you to attend class and take notes. She is a caring and helpful and as long as you listen to her advice on what to study and take advantage of the extra-credit and free tutoring, there is no reason not to do well.
I took Dr. Kowal last semester of Spring 16 and wanted to cry after every class. Math has never been my strong point, and she was not understanding of this in any way. She was very unhelpful when I asked her questions, and I was completely lost in her class. I even went to tutoring twice a week every week, and I still failed her tests. DO NOT TAKE!
I took Prob and stat and honestly did not like the class. She takes off points for little reasons. Even if you got the answer right, but did the formulas wrong prepare to lose a lot of points. If you skip one class, you will be SO behind. learned my lesson with that. Also, make sure to copy all your her notes from the board.
It is very possible to get an A, as long as you work for it. She writes down everything you need to study, so you just need to copy from the board. It took me a while to get used to her grading, since she takes off points for every little thing. You just have to make sure to do everything HER way and you'll be fine. Curve set to 80 for every exam.
Quizzes every week, so BUCKLE UP! She will feed Maths to you. All you gotta do is take it. Her Math jokes are hilarious too. Amazingly brilliant professor who cares about your learning! P.S. Some curves were as high of 24 points so the course might be comparatively harder than others.
Not a bad professor overall. She expects a lot, in a course that's already difficult. You MUST come to class to copy the notes. You MUST write the proofs exactly how she wants. Weekly quizzes so make sure you study. I'd suggest youtube for getting a good grasp on proof concepts, on top of her notes. Shes tough, but with solid effort, you can pass.
Amazing professor! She is a great teacher and knows her subject well. Her classes are lecture heavy(but they're exactly like the quizzes), lots of homework(but extremely helpful), short quizzes, two exams, and a final. She is super compassionate and wants you to succeed. Make sure you go to class, take notes, do homework, and study and you're good.
The subject material is difficult, but she makes it fairly easy. I was struggling the first half of the semester, but started picking up during the second half. The class requires lots of memorization and practice, which the professor encourages. You need to apply yourself for this class, otherwise you'll fail. She curves a lot, too. She's amazing.
I really liked having Dr. Kowal as my professor. She had very clear notes and was very helpful if you didn't understand. There are quizzes every week but they are exactly like the notes. She curves all tests and gives extra credit. It's not an easy class but if you put in the work, you'll be fine.
Professor Kowal is fantastic. Speaking frankly, she's everything a college professor should be: she wastes no time during lectures--class starts and the lesson begins; she always lectures until the class is over. Her notes are very detailed and thorough--they're a valuable supplement to the textbook. She's very diligent regarding grading.
Don't bother taking her unless you are an actual math genius. She grades things incredibly harshly to the point that she has to give 20 point curves for people to pass. She treats an intro class like a 400 level. Avoid unless you know absolutely everything about statistics.
She's a great teacher, but she tends to move really fast, so if you zone out you definitely missed something. She also puts her class notes online though. There's a quiz every week, along with 2 big exams and a final, but there are curves on the tests and some of the quizzes are take home. Really sweet but tough grader.
She teaches everything a very specific way and it makes everything way more confusing than it needs to be. I was constantly lost in her class. She also seemed to get some kind of sick enjoyment out of us all stressing out about our grades and failing our exams. I would avoid taking her class at all costs unless you're incredibly good at math.
Nice woman. I'd add more tags, but LOTS of homework, going to lectures is important or you'll be SO BEHIND. A lot of quizzes, but two sided and you get to pick a side, just look over her notes, because the quiz is VERY similar. Exams are curved hard, like 36 pt. It is hard, she keeps you the entire time. It's tough if you don't like math, get help.
Probably the most difficult class I ever took. Professor Kowal is a good person, but she expects too much. A ton of memorization is needed, and proofs must be exactly like hers. Class started off well, but she then started to rush difficult sections. Though she does curve tests, and drops lowest 3 quiz grades.
I should have done the HW. HW was probably key to doing better than I did in the class. Curves grades on exams hard; but don't count on it. If you suffer from depression and no motivation like me, do attempt the problems even if they end up wrong to salvage your grade. Reach her during office hours.
Almost all of her quizzes are not straightforward. Like absolutely every other rating, she wants all proofs to be precisely like hers, and that's not how Discrete Structures should be like; people should be able to evidently prove their claims/theses by their own logic. If you miss even one component, you failed the quiz.
Dr. Kowal is a great professor! :) Yes, statistics is a hard subject but if you put in enough effort, do the HW, and follow her advice you will do fine. Each week there is a quiz and the quizzes/exam questions are just like the lecture notes so study them well enough and you will do great. Dr. Kowal doesn't deserve the flack other reviews give her
Dr. Kowal is the best professor in the Math Department. She is direct: what you see is what you get. She states her expectations (every day) and suggestions to earn an A on the assignments and in the course. She has high standards for her students and herself. I wish I could have her for every math class, and her math jokes are just great.
She explains everything very well and is overall a great professor in terms of teaching. Her grading and quizzes/tests are just insanely difficult. I like math but she makes me hate it. Everything must be done exactly her way or its the highway. That's not how math is or should be graded.
Dr. Kowal isn't a good instructor. She used the pandemic as an excuse to instruct this course completely online with no virtual classes besides exam days. You will be expected to learn everything from her notes, she just uploads pictures of the lecture notes and expects you to understand them. Luckily the curves are big but don't rely on them alone
Half online bc of covid. Tough grader, if you don't do problems exactly as she teaches in class then you get points deducted. If you do the HW and understand it, you will probably be okay. On the harder side just because of her grading style. Decent teacher.
Professor Kowal is a very passionate professor. One of the best, in my opinion. However, she is the toughest grader I've ever seen. I have never studied this hard for any quizzes/exams to only get decent grades. If your work isn't done the way she wants, good game. Do not take this course if you will not commit to 8 hours of studying every week.
She is the worse professor I have ever had. She believes that if you have class twice a week, you should spend 5 hours each day you have class writing notes, or doing homework. Dont even bother studying for her tests because shell make one problem (the hardest one on the test) worth 17 points of an 80 point test. She enjoys making kids miserable.
honestly, if you take this class it's over for you. Just pack your bags and leave because no matter how long you study you will cry from a fail. The Tests are ridiculous and she gives no time what so ever especially online. Just run while you can
Just abysmal. The way she sets up exams is like being in prison. You have no freedom to think out loud (which by the way is better for remembering information) and you are required to show your paper and face. Oh and even if you get the answer completely correct, you'll get points off because it didn't meet the exact criteria she wanted.
By far the worst class I have a ever taken. Kowal is a good person, but such a tough grader that even studying 24/7 wont help you get above 70-80s. She wants you to do everything by the way she says or its the highway. Your grade is 90% Exams (3 exams) and 10% Quizzes, which makes it so hard for a student to make up for an exam they didnt do well.
Extremely condescending and rude, and does not understand some majors require this course even though it does not apply. Told me I learned things in grade school and I should be able to do things myself. Dont bother going to lectures, just watch videos on 1.5x. Tough grader over ridiculous things (such as my k looking too uppercase in a problem)
Professor Kowal was great! Super specific on what she wants to see. Very organized on Canvas. Lecture videos are a good way to learn if you miss a class, and the notes will be expected to be written verbatim. Exam study guides are well detailed and helpful, but be prepared to study a ton! She's tough, but you'll pass if you work for it.
She gives a lot of work and you have to stay on top of everything. If you are a procrastinator don't take this class! If you are a student that studies and you are willing to put hours into this course and actually learn statistics you will do great. She grades everything and is very organized and sends out detailed emails on what needs to be done.
Just run. Shes nice, but Prof. Kowal is the toughest and most ruthless grader I've ever seen. If I were to combine the number of studying hours for the rest of my lectures it would be equivalent to just her class. I wish I had never fell into this pit. What a waste. I will never take another math related course ever again after this.
When I first took this class I read all the reviews and was scared. After actually attending the class online, the content is not hard at all for the first half of the semester but towards the end you have to study a bit. As long as you pay attention in the lectures and study all notes a couple nights before the class is easy. STUDY and you PASS
If youre reading this thinking "how bad can it be", its that bad. She assigns a ridiculous amount of work, toughest grader ever, wants things done her way over the correct way. Just overall bad. Her class is do-able, but there are so many other professors that can actually teach and that wont overload you with work. She ruined college math for me.
I've never written a review but these are just so inaccurate. Dr. Kowal is one of the most pleasant and dedicated professors at Po. Yes, her grading is a little strict, but if you copy the lecture notes word for word and understand the mock quizzes, you will do very well in this course. Her curves are generous. Don't wait last minute to study!
Just run she is not worth the aggravation and you will be studying at least 10 hours a night just to scrape by with a D. Avoid kowal by taking Discrete Structures at MCCC MAT 125 over the summer although its only 3 credits.
Prof Kowal was excellent! She broke down the material piece by piece and every new formula she taught was clearly building upon principles we had already learned. As far as grading goes, she curved every exam by almost 40 points! But she was a stickler for clear handwriting and proper formulas being used/written. Overall I think she was great!
She's very good at explaining things. If you want to take her class, you have to make sure you know her lecture notes very well. She makes you take notes all class but she has her lecture notes on canvas if you miss anything. There are three exams with quizzes every three lectures. Her curves are insane with about 40 points added to your exams.
Dr. Kowal deserves some credit. I did not like Math 237. It was a very hard class, and I would never take it again. However, Dr. Kowal gave me the information necessary to finish the class with an A. She is a sweet person, a clear lecturer, and has high standards for herself and her students. A thorough, high-quality professor.
She's taken off points for GRAMMAR in math class. Her tests are extremely difficult and are barely passable no matter how much you study and work hard for your grades. You can only talk to her one on one through email or during office hours. Never stops writing notes and you don't ever have time to actually understand the material before moving on.
I think the material itself is hard for people to grasp, but she does a great job of explaining. Her lectures are very thorough and organized. As long as you do your homework when meant to and pay attention in class, you should get a decent grade. She also encourages questions which is always nice. I love her and would take her again!!
She will use every second to lecture. Squeezes so much into a single lecture and then expects you to be able to understand on your own even though everything is rushed. She is really nice overall and if you take GOOD notes and study A LOT you should be okay. She also curves her exams which is nice, but her lectures are draining. Exams weigh a TON.
Even though she puts so much into a lecture, it was honestly a good math class. She curves the exams and drops grades too. Taking notes is a must but her own notes are on canvas. DO NOT try to skip lectures, you'll miss way too much. Overall she's a good teacher and will explain things you don't understand. Just stay on top of the homework.
Dr. Kowal is a pretty good professor, but her biggest issue is that she does certain things great, and certain things awfully. The class is nearly fail proof thanks to the very generous curves she gives out for exams, and she teaches well. However, the exams are tough, she is a harsh grader, and there's a lot of homework.
Is honestly a really nice professor. She cares about the class and tries to make it "fun". However, the lectures are very boring. She goes through way too much information in each lecture on. Her class feels like if you put a youtube video on 2x speed. Class is an easy A if you can test well. There was a 25-40 point curve on each exam.
If you pay attention in class, take notes, and do the homework assignments, you should be fine. This class is very lecture heavy and the grading is very harsh, but she gives extra credit assignments and generously curves. Prof. Kowal is very nice, cares about her students, and is accessible outside of the classroom. Great intro to stats prof.
Awkward teacher and harsh grader. When a majority of students got below average grades, she essentially said that we didn't go to tutoring enough instead of re-evaluating her own teaching methods. Don't recommend her if you already struggle with math
Her lectures are very helpful, and she is nice and outgoing, but she gives lots of homework and quizzes. She also takes off points on very minor things, and wants everything written her way. This class will be your main focus that you will end up putting an excessive amount of work and time in. However, there are intense curves and extra credit.
This professor is NOT clear about the class criteria. In addition to no clarity, there will be no feedback, even if you are not doing well in the class. While the 3 lowest grades are dropped it will not make much of a difference about your grade. If you tell her you are getting outside help she will hold it against you. Avoid at all costs.
I literally failed all of the tests in the class but still got an A- in the class because of the curves. Her class is very lecture heavy, but if you do all the homework and review guides it will help just a bit.
Very difficult math class. I liked her teaching style and think she is a great lecturer, but tests and quizzes are extremely difficult. Also, so much homework that is graded.
She clearly cares about her students there are extra credit opportunities and curves on Exams. She drops 3 lowest quiz grades and gives you all the materials to succeed. Is homework heavy but if you do it you will have no problem in this course. She even tried to make math puns and is very passionate. She gives you help if you need it. Take her!
Avoid her.
Dr. Kowal is one of my favorite professors. She is very kind, and you can tell she genuinely loves teaching. She is very helpful when you attend office hours, and provides enough quizzes, tests, and homework so that you can pass this difficult course. Love her math jokes, too:)
Did not like. If you struggle with math do not take her! She gives A LOT of homework and if you miss class you will miss a lot as well. She does post everything, which was nice and there was some stuff to help with the overall grade but the lectures were very boring. She is very sweet but if you do not like math and aren't good at it I would avoid!
Professor Kowal is a really kind person and you'd know it just from the first class. There is a lot of material and her lectures on it are pretty good and detailed, but it is A LOT of writing; I filled out 2 full notebooks. The homework also extremely overbearing, and you're expected to spend 2 hours studying out of class for each hour in class.

Professor Kowal was very nice but she did leave a ton of homework and went through her lectures too fast. I would not take her again for such a complicated course.
This was the single hardest class I have ever taken, and I would consider myself pretty good at math. Her lectures are incredibly long and there are more notes in this class than any other class you'll ever take. The amount of homework is miserable, and you will NOT pass without studying a minimum of 2 hours a day. She is very very nice though.
As a math major, I did find Dr. Kowal's class to be a little difficult. I do say she is extremely knowledgeable in the course, but the workload and lectures are incredibly long. There were some assignments that were quite useless to the topic in class. If you do skip her lectures, you will struggle to get a good grade. She is very nice, but tough.
Professor Kowal is engaging and explains the concepts well, but the class has a heavy workload. Lots of writing, quizzes, and homework. Using Unstuck AI and the textbook is helpful for keeping up.
Dr. Kowal's class is extremely demanding with unrealistically high expectations. She assigns so much work that she can't grade it all, instead grading just one problem and basing your grade on that. The workload forces students to spend all their time on her class, leaving no room for others. Half the class agrees it's unfair. **AVOID HER.**
I had to take her class for my major, and it was one of the hardest classes I have taken so far. Her lectures are long and she goes through things very fast paced. She assigns homework after every lecture, and it is collected and graded. She assigns review assignments that would take me 2-3 hours. If you are not great at math, I don't recommend her
Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ Dr. Katrzyna is one of the most difficult and unreasonable math professors. While her enthusiasm is a plus, her teaching is ineffective and unclear. She often rambles, making concepts more confusing instead of explaining them properly. Exams are unreasonably tough, If you want to actually learn and not waste money, avoid her class.
As somebody who loves math she killed my enthusiasm for it. Lectures are LONG and from the first minute to the last you'll be taking notes, and after each lecture there's a LENGTHY hw. She is so unfair grading it's ridiculous, her dropping 2 grades doesn't help bc even if u know what ur doing she still gives u bad grades. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!
Lectures are good as long as you pay attention but homework is an insane amount of time doing problems whose answer key looks utterly different than classwork. You will do well if you put hours and hours into studying, otherwise best of luck; the only thing that might save you is the exam curves.
Easily one of the worst math professors I've ever had. She procrastinates on grading, often marks correct answers wrong just so she can curve grades later to seem generous, and barely puts in effort to teach. If you ask for help, expect vague or dismissive answers. She is there for her paycheck and that is all. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
As someone with math as their strongest subject I loved her lectures as they covered the quizzes and exams. As long as you write down the lecture notes and pay attention in class there should be no issue in test taking. Her lectures are designed to teach you the material properly. Overall, she is a great professor and I would recommend taking her.
save urself and don't take her class. she is the worst seriously. she gives over 40+ pgs of hw and she only grades 2 problems.. then when you get a 100 she takes points off for not highlighting her way or stapling where she wants or whatever. literally wants to u to fail and will do whatever to make u fail. take someone who cares. NOT HER!
Avoid if this is a gen-ed. No canvas but sends weekly emails instead for announcements/hw. She is strict and will take off points if your hw isnt highlighted in yellow. No EC and no late assignments accepted. She will randomly choose you to answer the problems on the board and calls this a "study guide." Hw is extremely time consuming. Be prepared!
Graded on 2 random questions. No staple, then no points. Review assignments had to be repeated TWICE. No time to study chapters I had trouble on because I was too busy rewriting everything. Lectures lasted till the last second and would start a new chapter even if we only had 5 mins left. No exaggeration. Notes were rushed and not helpful. Avoid.
Prepare to write tons of notes. HW and "mock-quizzes" have to done multiple times and stapled/marked a certain way to earn full credit. The workload she expects of you is astronomical- if you need this class and don't have any other choice make take it during a "light" semester, otherwise you'll quickly fall behind unless you are very good at math.
Took the class in Fall of 2024. Discrete Structures is one of those classes you will need to dedicate the semester to. There is a lot of homework and take home mock tests that are mandatory, and while it is a lot of work to be done, it ensures that you know the material well. Kowal explains the material well and will re-explain as much as needed.
Very good professor, I have always been bad at math throughout high school. I now and doing well on quizzes and exams because of her teaching style. She is also very sweet and very well-rounded.
Discrete is very very difficult but Kowal sets you up for success. The amount of homework is actually diabolical but it is so beyond worth it. Tests are scary but relatively easy IF you do the mock quizzes a few times like she recommends. All tests are curved so that the average is an 80. The timed quizzes are pretty bad but there aren't too many.
Off the bat this professor might seem terrible but she gives you all materials you need to pass the class. She also curves all test grades to keep class average at an 80%. One exam I went from a 66% to 90%. As someone who isn't good at math this class is actually obtainable if you make time for it. She gives a lot of homework though and moves fast
She is an extremely hard grader and has to do a 30 point curve for each exam to get the class average to an 80. Only gives a 10 minute review game that does not help at all before exams and does not allow formula sheets. Assigns very long and tedious homework then only grades off of 2 randomly selected questions. Assigned seating. DO NOT TAKE HER.
She isn't as bad as the reviews may seem. I've never been the best at math, and I was able to do really well in her class. She curves every test to make the class average an 80 and drops the three lowest assignment or quiz grades. Homework can take over an hour sometimes which sucks. Very doable, but you definitely need to put the work in.
