She's a greta person, but her tests are extremely tough. Personally I didn't seek much help for the course so my final grade was my own fault, but if you work hard enough I'm sure a high B is attainable.
Dr. B was the best science teacher I have ever had. She plays music before class to calm the nerves of her students and is a professor who TRULY welcomes questions. She is very detailed and brings options forth for people who learn differently such as auditory and visual learners. I would take her for any class I have. I am a nursing major btw.
SHE IS AN AMAZING LECTURER!!! just listen to one lecture and you completely understand her. cares alot about students and I was in the experiment class this semester. Super cool and approachable. Tests are hard but pay attention and put in effort outside of class.
Just an incredible educator. Very articulate, concise, and energetic in her speaking (and in general too). Tests are not too difficult provided you do the homework and attend the lectures regularly. Not a big fan of the clickers though. Had a different instructor assigned to me before classes began, read her reviews and switched. Great choice.
Very nice teacher!
I've never met a professor who cares more about their students and is willing to help as much as her! 4 exams and a final with daily homework that is somewhat time consuming. Class average for exams was about a 78, but A+s are extremely doable if you just put in the effort outside of class. You will NEVER be bored in her lectures!
Biberdorf was so great and energetic, she really tries to make sure everyone understands the information and has absolutely great and helpful office hours. The work load is a little above average but she makes it balanced and has the best interest of the kids at heart.
Dr. B made me love chem because she is such a passionate professor. Basically, you teach yourself everything with g-chem and she goes over the hardest stuff in class, so don't expect her to teach you everything; however, if you raise your hand in a lecture hall of 400 people and say you don't understand something, she will stop to help you.
In a class of 500+ students, she truly takes the time to make sure everybody understands the materials. She's really fun and energetic, which makes it really easy to stay awake in her afternoon class. probably the best professor i've ever had
SHE TALKS SO FAST. If you need in depth( and by that i mean anything below one centimeter of depth), she is not the teacher for you. She goes extremely fast and her class always has the lowest test average for the exact same test as other classes. take someone else.
Her class was very fast paced and if you missed something, it was up to you to figure it out. However, most of the other professor's lectures are probably the same due to the "flipped classroom" format, so you might as well get Biberdorf! She's incredibly passionate and energetic, but TA review sessions and office hours are still a MUST.
She's an awesome lecturer- you will not fall asleep in this class, she always keeps you so engrossed! This class was a bit fast paced for me (esp. bc I haven't taken Chem since freshman year of high school), but she made it a bit easier. Tests aren't hard at all as long as you study! Very straightforward and to the point.
Chemistry is just not my subject at all... but she's the best professor out there. Not a day was I bored in class. The concepts are just so hard for me to grasp, personally. But definitely the best professor I had all semester. I know people who got A+'s in her class. It also helps if you've taken AP Chemistry at your high school.
AMAZING!!! I use to hate chem until I met Dr. Biberdorf. She is very passionate about her work and enjoys helping students. The course work is hard but Dr. B makes it enjoyable. I would really recommend her to all students
Biberdorf is an amazing teacher, but she's WAYYY too fast paced, so if you prefer someone who goes slow, you won't like her. Other than that, she's awesome! The 4 exams basically make up all of your grade and they're tough so study!!
Dr. B's class is super hard and she is not the best at explaining material. I am still in her class, but I started attending a different professor's lecture because she is very energized... (to put it nicely). If curse words offend you, do not take this class. She spews them like it's no big deal. I would recommend taking Sparks, LaBrake or McCord.
The majority of this class relies on the student's work outside of the class in such things as learning exercises which she goes over the day it is due. Dr. B is definitely fast paced so you need to pay attention but she keeps things interesting. Although there is no required textbook, buying the course pack makes taking notes easier
TAKE KATE THE CHEMIST AT ALL COSTS!!! One of the best professors at UT, by far. She is a bundle of energy and truly loves chemistry; she wants each of her students to succeed. She is also fantastic to get to know outside of class, so if you have the opportunity to, DO IT!
Dr. Biberdorf is one of the best professors I've ever had. She's incredibly passionate, and her lectures are always exciting and engaging. The tests are challenging, but she's ready to help you succeed. Class expectations are tough, but clear. Gen chem is always a lot of work, but she's one of the best to take it with.
Great Teacher, I took her for Chem 301 and 302 in successive semesters and she was amazing. Great lecturer, very engaging and genuinely cares for students. If you go to office hours she will not stop to help you. Demos are awesome and she loves blowing up stuff and you can get an A in this class if you are engaged.
I went into UT hating chemistry with every bone in my body. I took CH301, decided the very next semester to take 302, even though it isn't part of my degree plan, just to be able to take this class with Biberdorf. She is amazing, very caring about how her students do, and very approachable and friendly (she even ran the Longhorn run with students).
Dr. B is a great choice both for 301 and 302. She is super straightforward and is always the students' advocate when it comes to tests and extra credit. She team teaches so she doesn't always have the ability to alter tests. Her vibe is so good you could be failing the class and walk out smiling. Loved her class so much I'm double-majoring in chem.
She is amazing! Really energetic and fun. Sometimes goes too fast but if you ask a question she'll stop everything and explain. I didn't do well in ch301 but now I have an A+! She is amazing made going to chemistry exciting and fun. She does fun demos and is the best out of the 3 team teach(ish?) profs (sparks, labrake, and dr b) Take her class!!!!
Love Dr. B and glad I had my last Chem class with her! She is super energetic and funny, really caring her students and loves to interact. Her lecture has a very clear structure and she always emphasizes important stuff, but make sure you do the Learning Exercises and Homeworks. If you don't feel comfortable with Chemistry, take her!
Very energetic and enthusiastic teacher. She cares very much about her job and does a good job communicating questions. Class is well structured.
The lectures are very fast paced but she's a really fun professor. I didn't learn much from her but I had an enjoyable time in her lecture. Sit it the front. Ask questions. Get to know the TAs. Go to Office Hours. Do ALL the homework. Do all of this and you will get an A from Biberdorf.
Chemistry was probably the hardest course I have taken at UT so far, but Dr. B made the experience wonderful. She is such an inspirational person and she cares for all of her students. Her lectures were fun and entertaining and if you have to take 301 or 302, take it with her. She is the best general chem teacher.
Best introductory chemistry professor ever!
Literally the best Professor I had in my two years at UT. Shes the most funniest and exciting teacher I have ever had in my life. Youll just have to take her to really understand what Im talking about. But if you do, trust me even a $100 dollars wouldnt keep you from going to class even if its chemistry, she really makes the subject fun.
Best professor I've had so far. Cares so much about chemistry and her students in general. Although it is a hard course, she makes it as easy as it can be and helps so much with learning. Love her so much and have never seen a professor this excited to be teaching a subject.
Dr. Biberdorf is a great professor and is usually quite clear in explaining things. She cares heavily about her students and holds lots of reviews and office hours. The only negative thing I have to say about her is that she is not very good at explaining the thermo unit. She was great at explaining all other topics though so she is a good pick.
Dr. Bis a good chem instructor. However, the class is very generalized. There was a large focus on memorization rather than giving the understanding necessary to derive various concepts, which made most tests not a test of knowledge of chem but of the ability to memorize PowerPoint slides and formulas. However, she is very funny and nice professor.
Biberdorf is awesome because she is really interested in what she's teaching. I really liked how she explained concepts, she definitely makes you think and sometimes it takes a while to grasp but if you put in the effort you WILL understand because there's SO MANY opportunities for office hours, asking questions, etc. Loved the class!
Best chem prof ever! She is funny and always seems really passionate about what she is teaching. 10/10 would take again
Dr. Biberdorf is absolutely my favorite professor this semester. She has such a great passion for chemistry and she is always so energetic. She keeps her students engaged in class and explains the concepts really well. The class is not hard if you do everything you are supposed to do. Dr. B changed the way I see chemistry and she is just so amazing
Dr. B is by far the best professor I could ever dream of. Aside from being hilarious and engaging (beware: she's fast-paced, so pay attention!), she genuinely ADORES what she does and couldn't be happier to share it with you. It's a lot of material, so it's tough, but worth every second. She made me love chemistry too, and I look up to her.
Wow. Dr. B is the most incredible professor you will find on this campus. She is hilarious, so incredibly smart, caring and passionate about chemistry. She made her lectures fun and so engaging each and every time. I'm horrible at chemistry so I don't blame her for my low score. She goes fast but is very good at explaining things. Gonna miss her!
Lectures are always a joy, and there often some sort of demo always going on to ingrain the subject matter. Dr. B is always super energetic and really passionate about her class, and that fervor is contagious. All you have to do go to lecture, and do your LE's and with minimal studying, A is easily achievable.
Dr. B is amazing at her job. She loves what she does, and makes it her goal to ensure that her students enjoy learning the subject. There are plenty of opportunities for help outside of class, and if you're willing to put in the effort, you can do very well in this course. In addition, she can always be counted on for good advice. Incredible woman!
Best chemistry professor ever!
Dr. Biberdorf is amazing! The tests are difficult and you MUST study for this class if you want a good grade. Office hours are critical to getting an A- or A. Her office hours are right after class til 3:30 so try to avoid scheduling a back to back class. She is VERY fast paced but office hours explain well and so do her TAs
Dr. B is everything you could ask for in a professor. Passionate, available, caring, fair. If chemistry comes naturally to you, this class isn't that difficult as long as you do all the assignments. If chemistry is something you struggle with, attending office hours will get you where you need to be for an A. Highly recommend her for intro chem.
Awesome class! Really enjoyed listening to Dr. B's lectures. Make sure you read the online learning exercises before class though! Really helps.
Dr. B is an amazing professor that is truly passionate about chemistry. She brings so much energy to each of her lectures, which inspires every student regardless of their interest in chemistry. Doing the learning modules and homework outside of class will definitely help and doing the extra practice is really helpful for studying.
Dr. B is the absolute best! She is very funny and explains things in a really fun and easy to understand way. Her passion for chem is infectious. Tests are a littl hard but if you do the learning modules and study a little they aren't too bad. I could never go to her office hours because of my schedule and I still did pretty well! 10/10 professor!
Such an awesome professor!! The bad thing is that I didn't do good enough on the exams and that is most of your grade. If you are doing bad, study with other people who understand rather than cramming alone!!
Dr. B is hands down the best professor I will ever have. She is an incredible instructor and a caring person. If you go to all the lectures, exam reviews, office hours, etc. 301 should be an easy A. If you have the chance to be in Dr. B's class- TAKE IT.
Great professor! She's super passionate about chemistry and it shows. Very approachable and caring. Exams can get pretty difficult, so study hard.
Dr. B is an amazing and energetic professor who loves to do crazy demonstrations in class. She literally set me on fire on the last day of class which was insane. Her exams are hard and you must do the homweork and study hard in order to do well. Chem 302 is ten times harder than Chem 301 but Dr. B makes both classes amazing experiences
Dr. B is one of the better Gen Chem choices at UT. She is a fine communicator of information but get ready to teach yourself most of the concepts or rely on the wonderful TA Jimmy. Biggest plus is that she does everything she can for you to get an A from curves to drops.
She's an alright lecturer but if you already have a handle on chemistry then you don't really need to go to class. Watch the exam review videos that Jimmy posts before every test, do the extra practice questions and show up to the exams.
FAV PROF She goes really fast. It may not make sense in class, but do all the hw, extra practice, and GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Do that and you'll be perfectly fine. Tests are fair and there's tons of support. USE IT. Dr. B is really great and definitely try and get her for both semesters. I hope I get the opportunity to be a undergrad TA for her.
Dr. Biberdorf is an amazing professor who is truly dedicated to her students. Her lectures can be fast and confusing but there is a lot of material to cover. Dr. B is extremely caring and even though she has 1000+ students she still found time to meet with me one on one. Overall, I enjoyed the class and learned a lot but getting an A is tough.
Dr. Biberdorf is a super amazing professor. She is so passionate about chemistry that I felt bad when I skipped her lectures. If you do miss her lectures, make sure to watch them online. Go to Jimmy's reviews and actually take all her exam studying advice and you should do amazing in her class. Look forward to taking her for CH302!
I HATED chemistry before Dr. B's class, but from day one I started to like it and look forward to the class even if it was at 8AM. To get an A go to all lectures, office hours and reviews, do all the extra practice, review lectures the same day, and email/ask when you have questions! Jimmy is the reason I'm going to pass. Not a blow off class.
Dr. B is an ok lecturer , all my friends pushed me to take her because she was considered the best , personally my learning and her teaching techniques dont quite mesh well. I have to work 100x harder than in any other college class Ive ever been in. She moves very quickly !! Personally she is a nice person but not the best professor.
Dr. Biberdorf is the best intro chemistry teacher you could have. Just listen in lecture, take practice exams and you'll get an A.
Nice professor overall but her class is one of the hardest and most fast paced out of all the ch301 courses. If you do not have a good background in chem from high school I would not recommend taking her for an entry-level course. Read the textbook, pay attention during lecture, and definitely go to office hours. The TA, Jimmy, was very helpful.
Dr. Biberdorf is AMAZING. This class is by no means an easy A, you have to work for it, but she provides all the resources you need. There are plenty of homework, learning exercises, quizzes, and reviews for you to understand the material. I didn't take Chem AP in high school and at first was very overwhelmed, but you will get used to her fast pace
Lectures are a bit fast paced, but she genuinely tries to make sure all understand the material. Very good with explanations and accessibility. Lots of HW so you're constantly working. 4 tests with a drop. Tests aren't terrible but you have to study(KOOFERS). I was a little overwhelmed at first but I stuck with it and came out with a B+. Final's OK
I was very taken back at first due to her fast pace, but if you work for it, you will get the grade. She cares about her students and hints what will be on the exam while lecturing. She records all her lectures and posts them online: PLUS, she spends her last lecture of the unit having an "overview" of what is expected to know on the test. TAKE HER
Dr. Biberdorf is a queen! I love her so much, I would go to war for her. She is hands down the best professor at UT. However, the class is not a cake walk. I would recommend to be successful in her class is to listen to Jimmy's advice and redo homeworks and old exams. Her exams are heavily conceptual so you need to understand 100% the concepts.
- Best Prof. ever!! - Many resources to study for exams. I took notes over the whole gchem site (online txt) for the unit and that was enough studying for me - VERY DIF. FROM AP CHEM. Much of the material is different but I honestly felt that it was easier than AP Chem. EG: Molecular Orbital Theory and Quantum Mech. - Just do gchem and u'll be fine
Dr. Biberdorf is so great that I am no longer afraid of chemistry. I took AP chem and that was so much harder than CH 301. This class focuses a lot on understanding the concepts which is nice and makes the questions more doable than AP chem. Make sure you pay attention, go over your lecture notes & reviews, read Gchem, & do koofers practice exams.
I had an 8 am for this class, but her lectures really kept me awake. She's really great at teaching and knows how to engage students. She's also very sweet and inspirational! The coursepack is very very helpful. A LOT of online assignments but they help to study for the exams. As long as you study and practice you will do well.
You can tell that Dr. Biberdorf loves teaching and wants her students to succeed. She teaches at a fast pace, but there are so many ways to get extra help if needed. If you keep up with the work she assigns, youll be able to keep up with her lecture. Attendance isn't mandatory but she makes lectures fun, so I recommend showing up to class.
Hated chem in high school but LOVE Biberdorf. Hands down one of the best profs at UT. She is passionate about chemistry and really strive for her students to succeed. The class is pretty fast paced but she help her students a lot. Some of the tests were okay while some were hard af; however, getting an A is definitely attainable. Be ready to study!
Incredible professor and human. Love yourself and take her.
Professor Biberdorf is super sweet and very passionate about teaching. I came from a high school with basically no chemistry knowledge whatsoever, so I definitely struggled in her class. She always kept her lectures engaging, so it was easier to follow along than I would've expected. The tests were difficult though, esp if you didn't take AP chem.
Dr. Biberdorf is a really good professor in that her lectures are very clear and she's a fun person. However, you have to put in A LOT work outside of class to make a good grade. The 2nd test was hardest, but she drops one test (out of four). Make sure you study A LOT and review lectures online. I cannot stress enough how important it is to study
She is great, with enthusiastic lectures, and has in-class questions as a participation grade, but if you know your Chem the lectures are kinda useless. The midterms are tricky because the questions are over minute details instead of core concepts, but theyre still ace-able. She helped write the online textbook gChem which is absolutely amazing.
Homework for the class consists of Learning Exercises that come from gchem (online course textbook) that you read & finish before class. They can be pretty dry and confusing at first, but Biberdorf's lectures and style of teaching clears it up really well. You'll leave lecture understanding the concepts so much better! She keeps lecture interesting
Professor Biberdorf is so awesome! She is really energetic and really makes lectures fun and engaging. She is great at explaining things and really tries to engage with students. Only thing is tests are very hard and a lot of studying and practicing is required in order to do well. She gives students a schedule of how to study for a test. USE IT!
I truly believe Biberdorf is the only professor I could have to keep engaged at an 8am. While I loved her in lectures, she didn't really teach us how to apply concepts, which is what is required the tests. So go to class and learn the topics, but then maybe seek out other outside resources to practice application to study!
Dr. Biberdorf was an amazing lecturer. I had her at 8 am and I feel like she did a good job keeping the class engaged. Even so, Chem 301 was such a hard class. I feel like you will only do good in this class if it is your entire life or if you took AP Chem in high school. The tests are very hard and people either did really well or really badly
I loved having Biberdorf as my prof so much that she made me consider switching to a chem major! Her passion for chem and the way she engages everyone in lecture always made me look forward to going to her lecture! Tests were easy and you could always expect what was gonna be on them. Jimmy's reviews are a life saver.
Dr. Biberdorf is by far the best lecturer at UT (She's featured on talk shows). The class is very clearly structured and offers many opportunities for help outside of class. I would strongly advise you to know how to do each homework problem and learning module question. If you learn them, this class is an easy A. If you don't, you will suffer.
Biberdorf is a great gal, but way too fast for my taste. I had trouble keeping up with the class and would always have to go home and rewatch lectures. Shes very bubbly which could be taken in a good or bad way. Jimmy is pretty good but i love Albert! Do a ton of McCord practice problems for her exam!
Had Dr. B for 301 and 302, and she was great (and had really cool demonstrations!) Presented the information very clearly and was honest about what she expected us to know for test TAs are amazing and very helpful She records all her lectures and posts them online if you miss class for whatever reason
Dr. B is an awesome professor. She uses a course guide that has fill in the blank notes and she truly cares about her students. Lectures are enjoyable and this is where you need to pay attention the most There is HW every other night, but its essential and only takes 10-25 mins. Her tests are very fair if you do the prep for them. Easy A if you try
She is there for you no matter what. There are so many opportunities to get help so USE it! Dont be afraid to ask for help because she will go out of her way to make sure you understand.
Yes she is a great professor and lecturer with her fun personality and style of teaching but gen chem is so hard. This class is NOT an easy A - she makes you work hard but for some (not me) chemistry just comes easy to them. You have to put multiple hours into studying and tests can mess you up if you make even the slightest bit of mistake.
Dr. Biberdorf is an incredible person overall. I actually had the chance to take her for both CH301 and CH302 but it won't let me put that. She always comes into lectures full of enthusiasm and I love it. There are so many resources she gives us to be successful. The entire chemistry department is at our disposal. Also, the textbook is free!
If you have the chance to take Dr. B, do it!! She makes chemistry so fun and interesting to learn. She is passionate about making sure her students fully understand the material. She is very interactive during class and will go around and talk to as many people as possible. I got to take her for ch301 and 302 and think she is the best prof for chem
Dr. B is one of the best teachers I've ever had throughout my academic career. She motivated me to make it to her 8 AM every single lecture, and although I hate chemistry, I loved listening to her present. Her passion is contagious, she is incredibly knowledgable, hilarious, and such a great role model. I highly recommend her class; no regrets.
I love Dr. B so much! She is a wonderful person, super bubbly, cheerful & HELPFUL! I wish I could go to her OHs(but then they conflict w/ my schedule :( ). Her TAs are also very helpful, going to Jimmy's OHs helps alot! Listen to her carefully in lectures, do your notes, LEs, HW, course pack worksheets and past exams on Koofers and you'll be good!
Take Anderson. Dr. Biberdorfs class is great but the exam questions are hard. Anderson picks easy quest exam questions
Dr. B might honestly be the best professor at UT! She made chemistry seem so simple and offered amazing resources for her students to prosper. Jimmy is also an amazing TA and his exam reviews were lifesavers. Test heavy class but an A is very doable. If her class is open(which is rare), dont hesitate to take her because you wont regret it!!
If you had Biberdorf for 301, know that the material for 302 does get harder! She didn't teach 302 as well as 301 as she would sometimes redirect us to complete the problems at the back of the book on our own before walking us through an example. Doing well on tests wasn't impossible if you can self-teach and follow up with Jimmy's exam reviews
I hate chemistry but Dr. B made it interesting. One of the best professors at UT! She explains things so clearly and ask questions throughout lecture to make sure everyone understands. She also makes practice finals and extra practice. Harder than 301. You really have to work for that A. Studying is a pain but she's an AMAZING Professor!
Make sure to use the coursepack- study gchem and go to office hours. If you study- its an easy A!
I loved Biberdorf. She's always enthusiastic, encourages students to reach out for help, and her demos were always fun to watch. However, the content is difficult, especially if you haven't touched chemistry since freshman year. There are many resources to help you out from her and her TA's reviews to old tests on Koofers.
My fave prof at UT. Super interesting lectures and made chemistry enjoyable
Dr. Biberdorf is a very good choice for students looking to actually understand chemistry. Her exams are fair and she is really good at answering questions if you come to her office hours. I would not call her class easy but it's definitely not a hard class if your put in the work. 10/10 would recommend.
Absolutely loved her! She was definitely taught like my learning style. She does talk a little fast, and you have to be in class for the REEF questions, but she is easy to follow along. She does lots of practice questions and is super funny. Can't wait to take her for 302!
She is a very outgoing prof. but she does talk super fast and it does become difficult to follow along when you're trying to process what she just said. This class will take up a lot of your time especially if your last chem class was sophomore year of high school aka me.
Dr. Biberdorf is so awesome! I had her at 8 AM but was never bored or tempted to fall asleep. She made chemistry as easy for us as she could. Her test questions were always fair and she provided lots of resources (reviews, TAs, etc.) to help us do well. If you get the chance, take her!
She is the coolest person EVER and SO energetic its crazy. You have to work for your grade and she goes kinda fast but there are many resources available for you. She really makes lectures fun and is super supportive. She is kinda hard to reach one-on-one just bc the classes are huge but if you make a VERY significant effort you can still do well.
1) Do not buy the optional blue practice book, it doesnt correspond well to lecture material. Anyway Biberdorf is cool but she also thinks shes really cool.... 8 AMs with her energy are kind of :/ Class is hard but not impossible, go to office hours and study for a week in advance. One test is dropped which is a blessing.
Don't buy blue CP, waste of money. Biberdorf is high energy, which I loved -- but also brags a lot. Made chemistry fun, though. I didn't take AP Chem, but this class was "easy". Biberdorf talks really fast and sometimes skips connections in order to cover everything, so tbh class is for taking notes. Learn and process on your own AFTER class.
Dr. B is one of the best professors at UT. HOWEVER, she is NOT an easy A. I took AP chem which helped but you definitely still have to work hard. She was an amazing prof and even made having an 8 am enjoyable. Already signed up to take her again next semester!
She is great. Take her 8 am she WILL keep you awake and entertained and the class is not as full as full as her other ones. Gotta work for the grade but all the homework, learning expertises, and quizzes give you 3 tries. It is test heavy but go to the reviews and take advantage of ALL the office hours held by her, TAs, and UGTAs/ LAs they help!
I've always struggled with & hated chem, but Biberdorf's lectures actually excited me & she is SO COOL. Pros: COOL PROF, fun demos, entertaining lectures, lectures posted online, lots of online resources Cons: moves fast (esp with REEF q's), hard tests (in my opinion), rare 1-1 time w/her Other facts: LE's/online quizzes due about 1-2 times a week
Dr. Biberdorf is an amazing professor; however, her class is no joke. Make sure you use all the resources given to you because her tests are the majority of your grade in the class. Make sure you're ready for the ins and outs of the content you're learning and to be weary of any possible trick questions that could be on the test.
Shes such a cool woman, very inspirational and energetic. Lectures are fun bc of all the demos and the energy she brings! Definitely would recommend taking from here !
Dr. B is the BEST chem prof you can get. Her lectures are super fun and her teaching is so amazing. She is very interactive and engaged with the class. The exams are pretty fair, even though they can be difficult. They do drop one exam out of four. Theres homework assignments every week but they're not too long and you get three tried for each.
She is so cool and passionate about chem but she talks really fast. I had anderson first semester and biberdorf was a little bit harder to keep up with. I think she's absolutely amazing, but she wasn't as available outside of class because she had so many events she had to go to. Good teacher but chem overall is pretty hard
Didn't like her - nice lady, but incredibly inflexible with schedules and very harsh with grading. Tests were very hard, despite hours of studying and attending every lecture. Overall, pretty negative experience.
Dr. Biberdorf is an extremely friendly and energetic professor. If you pay attention to her lectures and go to office hours you are good to go. Chemistry is a hard subject but if you put in the effort you will get the grade you deserve.
Dr. B really cares about her students and whether she just flew back from NYC the previous day, she will show up to lectures and be energetic. Her passion for chemistry is infectious, and although its not one of my fav subjects, Dr. B made it bearable. Amazing professor 10/10
I took Dr. Biberdorf's class fall of my freshman year and she was an incredible preview at the quality of professors at UT. She's incredibly passionate about chem, cares about her students, and knows how to keep people engaged. My one problem was with the sheer amount of energy she had at 8 am, it's a lot if you're not a morning person.
Bro Dr B is the bomb and you are lucky to get her as your professor. She is incredibly smart and talented and if you respond well to high energy individuals that keep you entertained- she is the one. Not to say the class is a piece of cake, it is definitely tough regardless if you took AP chem in high school or not, but she makes class fun!!
Dr. B is an amazing professors. Makes learning chemistry FUN! i dreaded my ch301 class w my old prof but i enjoyed going to hers. Chem is hard duh, so your grade is reflected on what YOU do. Overall she's the best professor to have.
Dr.B is incredible! She can talk fast, but she is really clear and knows what she's talking about. The only 'textbook' you buy is the lecture slides pack. I loved her energy and enthusiasm. Had her for 301 and came back for 302. I would take her for ochem if I could. Really funny and kind of famous too. Highly recommend!
Dr. B was my freshman year gen chem 1 and 2 prof. I learned so much from her and she pushed me to stay in CNS. She tutored me one-on-one until a topic stuck. Exams are hard, gotta learn good studying habits, but she makes you proud of a C. LEs and HWs are tedious but she really cares for her students and wants you to do the best you possibly can.
Dr. B is a great prof and lectures are fun, but that doesn't amount to much when you're struggling on the test. I didn't find the course pack very useful, it's hard to look through and I rarely used it. I did better when we transferred to the online course since I could learn at my own pace. I hindsight, I would have tried harder to get Laude.
Dr. Biberdorf is a great choice for principles of chemistry! Her energy and passion for chemistry made my 8 am lecture bearable and entertaining. I struggled with chemistry, but by attending office hours, SI sessions, and adequately preparing for tests I was able to get an A, but more so I feel like I have a strong grasp on general chemistry!
Dr. Biberdorf is such an incredible woman! General chemistry was overwhelming and difficult for me, as I didn't take AP Chem in high school, but there are so many ways to get help. This is a class you will have to study very thoroughly for, but the assignments are doable. Attend review sessions and office hours! The only class I'd ever take at 8 am
Even though Biberdorf was fun and energetic, I found her teaching style to be way too fast for me. She made everything sound more complex than it was. Very braggadocios at times too. I ended up using Anderson towards the end of the semester to learn the material and enjoyed his teaching method a lot more. Really tough material for me, but doable.
She's all-around ok -- very energetic. It's clear her passion lies in getting famous. Out of experiences with Sparks, Biberdorf, and Anderson, Biberdorf is my last choice (though she's def not bad, and the gen chem dept is pretty good). Dr. Anderson is my first by far, so get him if you can.
She is an absolute gem! I took her for both gen chem 301 and 302 and honestly she is great. Expectations are clear and there are so many resources, practice test, quizzes, and hws that will prepare you for the test. Easily accessible and has no many TA, LA office hours. The teaching team actually cares about you and will help you succeed.
Dr. B's lectures were very easy to pay attention to because she is very high energy. The tests are made to trick you but there are a lot of resources. She offers some opportunities for extra credit. Get a study group and you will have a better chance of succeeding.
Biberdorf is probably the "hardest" out of all the gen chem professors, so I only recommend if you're a quick learner and want to deep dive into material. Biberdorf's lectures are very energetic and quick paced, so be ready to kind of race through material at times. Tests are tricky, but can be fun. She's a big bragger, though.
Dr. B was AMAZING! You are lucky to get her if you can. Lectures were great and easy to follow with her high energy. LAs and TAs were also readily available to answer all questions during lectures about topics being covered. There are a lot of resources available in general to help you succeed like office hours so try to take advantage of them!
If you took AP Chem, this will be an easy A (not exactly the case for CHE302). You can do the REEF from home if you want (if you participate you basically get a 100 for it at the end of the sem). Review notes/do Koofers for tests. Extra problem book not necessary; save your money. LE/HW can be done 3 times so should be easy 100s.
Compared to 301, 302 is more difficult because of the material itself and the way she teaches it deviates from a lot of AP Chem courses. Small details in the test questions can trip you up. If you're willing to study more and do practice questions, still not too difficult to get an A, but definitely not an easy finesse like 301.
I took Dr B for CH 301 and 302, and she was easily one of my favorite professors of my freshman year. She's really energetic and fun, and she makes her lectures interesting, which makes a morning class worthwhile. There's no textbook, but you do have to buy lecture slides. Although she goes quickly, she makes sure everyone understands the material.
I really loved Dr. Biberdorf! I'd highly recommend her (or Dr. Anderson or Dr. Sparks) if you need a strong chemistry foundation for your degree. She was really inspirational and there were lots of opportunities for extra help. The tests were difficult but fair. She definitely wants to get famous, but it rarely got in the way of office hours/class.
Dr. Biberdorf was an amazing professor. Her lectures were clear and fast-paced. CH302 is extremely test heavy (85% of your grade stems from midterms and the final), and her exams were difficult but as long as you keep up with the work and lectures you'll be fine.
Dr. B is by FAR the best gen chem professor at UT. Very engaging and energetic. The class is not too difficult with a good amount of studying. There are many opportunities to get help outside of class if you're struggling. The lectures are fast-paced, but you get used to it. Good lectures if you're a visual learner. My favorite prof so far!
In this class, the materials given are not enough to prepare you for the exams. I did all the practice problems and purchased the practice problem book that the professors published themselves and still could not make over a 70 on a single exam. In my opinion, the exams are not a good display of what was taught in class.
TAKE DR. B FOR INTRO CHEMISTRY! Even if it's a really early lecture, she'll wake you up with how engaging and energetic she is! Chem is hard and you will have to study and work, but Dr. B does a great job at explaining things and making chem fun to learn even if it's stressful and there's a ton of TAs/LAs! She talks fast but lectures are recorded!
I was awful at chemistry in high school, but Dr. B actually made the content easier for me to understand. The only difficult thing about the class is having to memorize all the formulas and knowing which constants to use, but you get so much practice with the homework and LEs that it's definitely manageable.
Had dr B for both 301/302. Great professor, really made class enjoyable. This class is meant to be a weed out class, but its definitely doable to get an A. Probably best if you took AP chem in hs lol. Had a hard time catching up with friends that took AP chem bc I didnt.
Dr. Biberdorf is incredible! The class is a good amount of work, but it's absolutely worth it if your degree plan requires more chemistry. I would highly recommend being active in class & putting your all into the homework and learning objectives - it's not that hard to get a 100 on them but it's a lot more beneficial to learn through them.
I know her teaching style isn't for everyone (she tends to talk pretty fast), but I really enjoyed her lectures. Lots of resources available and occasional opportunities for grade boosts.
Just take laude.
Dr. Biberdorf, along with Dr. Sparks & Dr. Anderson, was such an amazing professor! She also has an amazing team of teaching assistants that help us students. The workload is intense and so are the quizzes, but it definitely is a course that helps prepares you for future courses. Had to drop this class only because I was being lazy & I regret it.
told her that lecture videos were consistently 30 mins to 1 hr over the time she promised and asked if they could be due more spread out (I would spend 4+ hours on weekend on JUST required work). she told me i was just not adjusting well to college & was alone in my struggle based on irrelevant stats. do not have her for online prob better 4 irl.
I did 5+ hours of required online lectures and work just on Friday and the weekend each week because of how due dates are placed, with only one hour of live discussion per week. I personally didn't really like how energetic and kind of over-the-top her lectures were, but this could just be me. I think the class would be a lot better in person.
Don't be alarmed by the other ratings. A hard subject isn't her fault. Every grade is practically a 100 aside from a weekly quiz- which aren't bad if you study the course pack I PROMISE. The averages for the quizzes are actually high most of the time. About an hour of hw/lectures due every sunday and wednesday and attendance is only once a week.
Although chemistry isn't my favorite subject, Dr. B's part of the lectures made me enjoy it! I loved her enthusiasm for chemistry. However, I did find some quizzes to be challenging (especially the thermo unit). The practice book didn't really align with the difficulty of the quizzes. You definitely will need to work hard for an A.
You may have seen her on TV, and thats why there are hundreds of students in the class. She is amazing person who is passionate, BUT, she is fast and hyper. That being said, it can be hard to keep up with her natural speed, but there are tons of resources out there. Chem is not easy, but at least she makes it fun!
I did not like the online classes for biberdorf and her team. Biberdorf is exciting, so a lot of people like her. However, the way she teaches her lectures is so confusing. I've heard many people say the same thing.
Chemistry is not fun. BUT, Dr. Biberdorf is pretty incredible for making this class not a burden. A solid 6-8 hours a week is needed to get a high grade, and you will have to crank out the practice problems a LOT, but that isn't her fault - Chemistry is just like that. Study hard and don't make excuses, and you will be fine. SHE WAS ON COLBERT!!!
I took this class for the credit and I regret it. There are weekly quizzes that are timed and have nothing to do with the homework or lecture material. Even if you study chances are you'll still struggle. The class is hard and the fact that there are 2 other professors involved with teaching makes absolutely no sense. I barely got by.
Biberdorf is a great prof, super high energy and makes me excited about learning chem. Fall 2020 (COVID) was all online and her, Sparks, and Anderson team taught the course. Expectations were clear and there were tons of resources outside of class to get extra help or clarification. Great choice for gen chem, I didn't take AP chem & still did great
Definitely not an easy class, but they give you all the resources you need to succeed. Go to office hours, use piazza, do the practice problems. About an hour to 3 hours of worth of lecture videos to watch each week with weekly homework and discussion worksheet. Weekly quizzes worth 55% of grade, so be prepared. Love her energy, great overall prof
I loved Dr. Biberdorf's class! She cares about the well-being of her students & takes the time to make sure students understand the material. Her lectures were engaging and she made learning chemistry easy. Loved the class's structure; weekly quizzes (no exams) to take pressure off of students. Attendance in discussion mandatory. Some extra credit
Material can be tough, esp if you didn't take AP chem, but it's possible to get an A if you put in the effort. I was kinda overwhelmed by how many resources there were (lectures, hw, textbook, practice problems, etc.), but it helped me find what works best for my learning style. Quiz every week. Lectures, discussion, & hw took up 5 hours a week.
Material can be tough, esp if you didn't take ap chem, but it's possible to get an A. Mandatory stuff (pre-recorded lectures, discussion, hw, weekly quiz) took up about 6 hours a week for me. They provided many resources (worksheets, zoom reviews, etc.), which was overwhelming at first, but it helped me find what works best for my learning style.

Her teaching team is amazing and efficient. Her lectures are easy to understand and honestly helped me understand chemistry like never before. However, shes very tough when it comes to quizzes regrades. Shes also very no-nonsense. Occasionally, I would see students asking questions on piazza and she would seem a little passive aggressive
Chemistry was the hardest class Ive ever taken. The amount of work was way too much and completely took over my life. Dr B really helped and if you have to take this class then make sure you get her, shes the best and so kind.
This class is not an easy A. You have to put in the effort. I was not a big fan of the online format for this class. There were weekly quizzes instead of exams, and I felt more stressed. Also, Biberdorf did not teach every unit. Dr. Anderson and Sparks taught some. It wasn't easy, with different teaching styles. Study hard, and you can do it!
After receiving an A in the online version of CH301, and never having any issues with any teachers, consider this a warning. Dr B is the least empathetic member of the trio, I thought I was being emotional but many of my classmates also agree she comes off rude. If you take this stuff personal like me, dont take this class. Take Anderson.
The class itself can be a lot of work with quizzes and homework every week, and multiple module videos to watch before discussions. However, I HIGHLY recommend going to office hours!! The professors are really nice but can be strict on quiz grading. Not hard to get an A if you work for it!
I love the lectures in this class. Dr. B really does an excellent job at staying engaging even during online learning. Anyone who did okay in high school chemistry should be fine in this class. Also, the TAs tend to grade wrong on quizzes so make sure to always check your mistakes!
Love love loved her. Super uplifting, although I never got to speak to her directly. Her lecture videos were always less than 35 minutes per learning exercise, and were super easy to understand. An absolute gem. The Biberdorf, Sparks, Anderson trio is definitely one I'd wish I'd taken CH301 with.
Dr. Biberdorf is a really great professor! She really cares about her students, and she is super fun and upbeat, which makes chemistry much more bearable than it would be otherwise. However, this class requires a LOT of work (I mean chemistry should, shouldn't it?) and you will need to study a lot, but if you need to take chem, take it with Dr. B!
Dr. Biberdorf is awesome! She is so energetic and engaging in her lectures and it's clear she's very passionate about teaching chemistry. If you use the course pack, go to lectures, and do the homework, it's pretty easy to get an A.
Especially with covid, and this being an online class, this class has been without a doubt the worst class I have ever taken. No live lectures, just hours of videos, and to make it better exams that cover essentially nothing like the questions in the lectures and are worth way too much. Not even partial credit. Don't recommend this class or prof.
where's the empathy, Dr. B? you took away partial credit second semester, the harder semester, during a pandemic. many classmates nicely brought this to your attention, for you to be totally dismissive. missing 2 questions on a test gets you down to a B. missing 1 is an A- because of no partial credit. awful.
The grading system of this course is terrible! quizzes and final make up for 75% of your grade, you can maybe miss one quiz question out of the 6 quizzes to make an A in this class (ridiculous) the homework and other assignments are not worth much but you have to do them. There is no live lectures, and the books they make you buy are full of errors
Questions on homeworks and quizzes aren't taught in lectures. Even with completing extra workbook problems, asking questions, and using outside resources to study you can only expect to make a B on the quizzes that make up 75% of your grade. Don't expect to have time for anything else if you're trying to get an A. That includes your other classes.
I took this class online, but literally one of the worst classes I have ever taken. Yes, the material was hard, but it could have been taught better. Dr. B is very strict in "this is how I teach it and this is how you must do it." Her voice is obnoxious and she was kind of condescending in discussion groups. Overall, horrible experience.
I took this class for Gen Chem 1 and 2. The second semester was spring 2020, so most of my experience with her was in person. She was a really fun professor that made learning fun. Was still hard work, but definitely manageable especially if you study in groups. I found having taken AP Chem in high school helpful.
I took 302C which is specifically for honors and chemistry majors. I found this course to be way more enjoyable than CH301C! The lectures are videos but Dr.B does a great job at explaining things and breaking hard topics down. It's definitely not an easy A but if you keep up with the work and attend office hours, you'll be set!
Dr. Biberdorf has an incredible amount of energy, and you can't help but smile in her class. Her lectures are clear and entertaining. She is upbeat and genuinely cares about her students. Her class can be difficult, but it's certainly worth it.
I really enjoyed this class (cotaught with Sparks and Anderson). It was definitely tough and not an easy A by all means, but I feel like I learned a lot. Very accommodating with COVID and the snow storm, even gave out EC! Definitely recommend doing the practice problems in the course pack. Also, Dr. B is just a super fun and likeable professor!
Decent professor that has pretty clear explanations for concepts. Unfortunately, the information she covers is only sometimes helpful for quizzes. She also puts in the least effort. No extra review videos, homework can be found from previous years and blatantly copied, and her supplemental text is also copied from gchem.
Took Biberdorf for 301 and 302. I would've loved the chance to take Dr. B in person if it weren't for the pandemic. Really good prof, fun and engaging to watch, and she really cares about her students. Gave us extra credit that really helped everyone out. Gen chem is hard, but Dr. B makes it fun. Lots of resources outside of class to do well
Dr. Biberdorf is a class act. She's passionate about her subject, accessible, and caring of her students. She does a great job understanding the mental health aspect of being a student while encouraging learning and participation. CH302 itself is a hard class and I do not think I would have been able to make it through without Dr. Biberdorf.
She talks about herself a lot and prioritizes her "kate the chemist" job over having in-person/zoom lectures. She missed a good amount of lectures by going to New York, yet can't hold lectures in-person, although she listed her class as face-to-face. Tends to go through lectures too fast- class is carried by the other profs just take anderson
Biberdorf was an amazing professor but the exam questions are a lot trickier than the practice exam problems youre given. I love chemistry because of biberdorf but wouldnt take the class again solely because of the exams. Shes an amazing professor, but this class isnt for slackers. Ive heard some call this class a weed out course
I took AP Chem in high school but there were many other concepts in this class. Dr. Biberdorf worked with Anderson and Sparks, and they explained the concepts very well. They had canvas learning modules where we learned most of the material and then they went over problems in class. Overall Biberdorf was encouraging and awesome.
Extremely encouraging and always willing to slow down and re-explain. Lectures themselves are more like office hours since all the material is done through Canvas modules. The class is taught by a team of chem. teachers, so it really doesn't matter which teacher you choose. But Dr. B was great! Study for tests and use the orange practice packet.
Dr. Biberdorf is a great professor who does explain the material quite well. The material itself was not hard, it's just that the practice questions they provide you are not as difficult as actual exam questions. You can definitely get an A in this class, you just have to work for it.
Dr. Biberdorf is very passionate, but I would advise not taking the class due to how much harder the exams are versus what youre taught/the practice questions youre given. You wont get a good grade without going to office hours and discussion. Getting an A is doable but if youre busy with other classes/cant allot much time I wouldnt recommend
Biberdorf explains things decently but I ended up going to Anderson a lot for help. Tests are pretty challenging because the test questions don't always align with the practice questions. This class is not the easiest and you definitely have to work for your grade!! Biberdorf was also almost completely online all year which I thought made it harder
One of the most supportive and caring professors. This semester, we had to complete learning exercises each week, and lectures were reviews over the LEs. HWs/LEs are time-consuming but manageable. Exams aren't too bad; however, thermo is challenging. Bonus was that we could get a 2.25 boost to our grade. Taking Biberdorf next semester for CH302.
Dr. Biberdorf was decent but very much a "my way or the highway" kind of professor. The course itself feels very detached because it was mostly online until the last couple of weeks (very odd). The tests were mostly fair. If you do the lecture assignments and watch the lectures you should be good.
Biberdorf is a really good professor and explains the material well, but I ended up going to Anderson more often when I needed to clear up on a concept. The LE's are really important. Homeworks and the practice questions are crucial in helping you prep for the exams since this class is exam heavy. You really have to work to get the grade.
Good lord she's condescending. Don't let her bubbly personality in the LEs fool you. She does not seem to care about students and has an arrogant personality - be prepared to hear about her PhD 1000 times. Lectures were fine but her fake personality is so off-putting. I don't see anyone talking about this on here but they should
Biberdorf, Sparks, and Anderson set you up for success. Course pack made notes easy and assessable. Each week you are assigned video lectures ranging from 2-4 hours and a 30 question homework assignment. They drop lowest midterm grade and give extra credit for attending discussion. Very understanding and would recommend anyone to take this course.
She teaches with Dr. Sparks and Dr. Anderson. Of the 3 professors, she was the one I liked the least. She talks really fast and sometimes the tests covered concepts that were not included in the videos posted online.
Biberdorf is a good teacher, but I personally didn't vibe with her bubbly personality. Nonetheless, as long as you stay on top of your work and ask for help when you need it, you should do well in this class.
She gives you all of the info you need and is a clear, organized lecturer. Your grade depends on how much work you put into it. My advice: do your best to get a+ for the first three exams so you can drop thermo exam at end of semester (class avg80% w/ 20 pt. curve). LE's can take time but not too bad.
A lot of people boost her for being like a celebrity professor, but personally I find it extremely annoying. She skipped class multiple times throughout the semester for gigs. That is great and all for her, but just don't be a prof? She was in a different on the day of our first exam. She is also kind of condescending.
Dr. B was very bubbly and seemed "fun" but in reality she was rude and did not put her students nor her teaching job first. Out of all 3 teachers, she was the least present and not understanding of her students at all. Do not take her. go to the other 2's lectures/OH for help because they will help you understand more.
This class was terrible. You are basically paying to look at old lecture videos. The course packets don't help with reviewing for the exams. Also, the office hours are extremely confusing and uninformative. So if this class is required good luck.
If you care about your GPA, AVOID THIS PROF! The class is just watching a bunch of videos, they don't even really teach. They are very difficult (the profs teach in a set of 3, known as the terrible trio). They grade the tests very hard w NO partial credit. Your entire grade basically depends on your exams /quizzes! Take Laude or anyone else!
Dr B is absolutely amazing and inspiring. Chemistry is a difficult class but she makes it fun and engages and really seems to care about her students. You'll definitely need to spend time studying for this class, but it is by far my favorite class I've taken and I am taking her again next semester.
Dr. B is amazing but the way the class was formatted is time consuming for students. Lecture online and in person then more homework seemed unnecessary. She requires a 50 dollar course packet between the trio, which is a bit wasteful. She really cares about her students though.
Bieberdorf is really fun and energetic, but she likes to explain things in ways that make the concepts a little more confusing. The LEs outside of class can also end up being more than 40 min an ep with 5 of them due each week which can get really frustrating at times. However, as long as you do all the assignments and try it's not that bad.
Even though I had Sparks as my main professor, I went to Dr. B's OH. She is a visual learner, so she taught her material that way. Her enthusiasm really helped me get through the tough problems. She would make sure that I understood the material and was happy to help explain the simplest things. Make sure to use the course packet for studying.
Dr. Biberdorf was an amazing chem teacher and all her expectations were super clear. The class is organized very well and with previous chemistry experience it should be a free A. She has a very fun personality that makes learning more enjoyable.
Unless you took AP chem or have a good chemistry foundation already, dont take biberdorf/sparks/anderson. i reccomend laude or fakhreddine to those who aren't familiar with chemistry already, if you are familiar then I'd reccomend the three previously mentioned
If you took AP chem in high school you could pass this class blindfolded, the way they set up learning modules make them very easy to work through and Dr. B has a very interesting way of explaining things that deepened my understanding of the material. Super peppy = Good professor for early morning classes
Awful professor and awfully unorganized class. Reuses old, and outdated content containing MANY mistakes (especially the content they make you pay for). The exams are nothing like the content you are taught and contain many errors. Dr. B cares more about her social persona than her students and often teaches content wrong, hurting your exam grade.
If you took AP chem this class is a complete joke. Super easy and the tests are very straight-forward. You can drop a test or opt not to take the final. Biberdorf is very passionate about chemistry and the LEs make the content super easy to understand and are a free 20% of your grade. EC is offered too if you attend discussion sections.
Dr. B seems nice but she fails to teach the proper material to succeed on the tests. She travels a lot and fails to prepare material that benefits the class. Textbooks are useless and expensive with many mistakes. The entire teaching team is passive-aggressive so you're better off with Laude or even Anderson. You have to work really hard for an A.
Biberdorf was my favorite out of the entire trio. Amazing lecturer that teaches really well. Having AP chem background make the class easier but do NOT slack off. Do the practice problems. Yes the practice book has a lot of mistakes but these are easily cleared up with TAs on Ed Discussion.
The CH302 class was taught joint with 2 other professors. They often contradicted each other which in turn overcomplicated things. Refused to provide constants or chart values in the homework/review which leaves students guessing what they even need to know or how to approach a problem bc you wouldnt know the equations or constants. DO NOT TAKE
Biberdorf is an exiting professor and explains concepts clearly. There is a huge teaching team with lots of opportunities for extra help, extra credit from discussion sections, exams are very similar to problems reviewed in class/assignments. Don't procrastinate on learning exercises and study in advance because some units have a lot of material
Was a nice professor but most material is taught through pre-recorded videos from 2 years ago. The practice problem book is riddled with mistakes and is very annoying. Some of the TAs have given incorrect answers to students multiple times. Not the worst class but take someone else if you can (not anyone in the trio)
Biberdorf is honestly great for intro chem. Def take one of the big 3 (Anderson, Sparks, Biberdorf). She's super bubbly and clearly loves what she teaches and if you're a visual learner she's great for that. Never really attended her office hours but go to Anderson's people say he's the best. Biberdorf is really chill and understanding though
Dr. Biberdorf is incredibly engaging, relatable and makes you feel at ease in her class. Though 8 am classes are usually dreaded, I look forward to hers every Tuesday and Thursday. Her class does require dedication, but studying pays off! The more work you put in, the more it will reflect in your grade.
Dr. B is by far the worst teacher I've had in college. She is simply rude and cocky. Usually, she was not there in class as she had to attend a show or go to her meetings. She cares more about her social standing and fame than her students. She even told students to F off. Yes, she is extremely excited at 8 in the morning but don't be fooled! AVOID
She is a great professor and very engaging. She gives a lot of opportunities for extra practice, so your grade reflects the work you put into her class which is pretty fair. She drops the lowest exam grade and I would def take her course again!
She's an amazing professor, very energetic and funny. However, she is gone a lot because she's very famous. Also, she goes quickly and assumes you have a good foundation. Honestly, if I were to do it again I would not go for one of the big three because the other Chem professors teach you more thoroughly. Not a bad choice though.
-Very entertaining and energetic which makes her lectures enjoyable- explains everything very well- tests are hard, but she does a great review and helps you set up a study schedule - does extra credit with multiple opportunities- gives out free 100s on little grades which is always good!
She is very energetic, even during 8 am classes. If you need a bubbly and enthusiastic lecturer, take her class.
This course is incredibly fast-paced and Biberdorf expects you to have prior knowledge over the subject matter. She teaches as if the information should not be new to you. Take this course if you have a background in AP Chemistry or thoroughly enjoy chemistry and are willing to teach yourself in some aspects.
This class is definitely not an easy A for someone who's not strong in chemistry. However, Dr. Biberdorf makes the class fun and engaging. You need to study outside of class for the exams. There are lots of extra credit opportunities.
Great teacher with an energetic teaching style that shows she cares about her students. Sometimes skims over lecture material that turns out to be extremely important on tests.
She's an okay teacher, but is not at all understanding and won't provide any accommodations for illness. She puts very little effort in responding to emails and doesn't seem to care much about her students.
If you have chemistry experience Dr. B is a good option for you, otherwise it probably isn't. I reached out to Dr. B asking to meet outside of lecture times to go over some of the material because I was struggling, and Dr. B emailed me back saying she could not meet with me due to the class size which seems ridiculous. Don't take the big 3.
She is very nice and tells you exactly what's going to be on the exams. She rarely ever misses class for a TV appearance (maybe once class day a unit). Her lectures are pretty fast paced so it's important to complete the LEs ahead of time to have a familiarity to the content. The trio throughout the year have made the content easier to help us.
I loved Dr. B. She was fun, brilliant, and energetic. Your grade ultimately comes down to how hard you work outside of class. Study your old homework. The only thing I was unhappy about was our final. She told us to only study our old tests, but the final had many questions that weren't covered on the tests. All in all, work hard and you'll be ok.
This was my first time taking chem since my sophomore year in hs and I did just fine . She makes 8am lectures very entertaining as she has a fun personality; she was also there for every lecture except 1 so it is not as bad as what some comments are saying. This class is 85% tests so having good study habits and hours outside of class is a must.
Dr. B was great! Many disliked her teaching style, but it worked super well for me! The class has four exams and one final, but your lowest exam grade is dropped. As a student with accommodations with extra time, she was always accessible by email to answer my questions on how to schedule my exams.
Dr. B is an awesome prof!!! She explains stuff so well and visually. I will say her teaching method is not for everyone and the class is weighed very test heavily.
A funny and energetic professor which makes going to her lectures very easy. Tests take place in the evenings as opposed to during class. Lots of assignments outside of class which can seem like busy work at times. 4 midterms (lowest dropped) and 1 final. She gives you lecture slides to take notes on. A really large class but fun nonetheless.
Liked her as a person but not so much as a professor. Goes through the lecture at lightning speed and expects you to keep up and doesn't care if you don't. Also has a habit of skimming over tested concepts. Personally would not take her or the trio again. I know quite a few people who have to retake this class in the spring.
Dr. Biberdorf cares more about her "celebrity scientist" status than her actual job at UT. I got an A in this class, but no thanks to her considering that I had to rely on the other chem professors in the teaching team. She is enthusiastic but not empathetic, accessible, or thorough. Her course pack is also filled with mistakes and wrong answers.
Biberdorf has great lectures and exams. I am sure everyone loves her.
Overall, she was very energetic and engaging. Her lectures are fast-paced but preparation outside of class definitely helps. Try to complete LE's ahead of time so you don't overwhelm yourself. Completing discussion questions, orange-book problems (in topics I struggled), and lecture problems really helped me study for the tests.
The class requires work but is doable. I loved how funny and entertaining lectures were for my morning class. Her office hours are super helpful, and I truly believe she wants you to succeed. Just be ready to put in the work!
Dr. Biberdorf is a girl boss and makes chemistry fun and easy to learn. She is always energetic and excited to teach. Exam questions are predictable; she literally tells you what types of questions will be on the exam during lectures. She clearly and thoroughly explains concepts without room for confusion. I will be taking her again in the spring!
She's a great personality evidenced by her Kate the Chemist persona. It's obvious she puts the minimum as a professor. She rushes content but spends 10+ minutes complaining about the emails she has to answer. HW on Canvas have incorrect answers and the Workbook you pay ~$40 is riddled w/mistakes that students have to point out bc she's unreachable.
Very energetic, makes lectures fun. You definitely need to pay attention and study outside of class in order to keep up with the material, though.
exams are the main thing in this course. dr. b's a girlboss and a fun lecturer, but keep up w the class!!!!!! if u fall behind, esp in thermo, ur probably screwed. study well for the exams as they pretty much decide your grade for you. try to drop the last exam, also the tests are the evenings which i kinda hated. this class humbled me
She is very enthusiastic and does a good job at breaking down concepts to an easy way to understand. I had her for CH301 as well and love the way she lectures. She drops your lowest exam and there are extra credit opportunities. She is a girl boss
CH302 is hard, but the big 3 (Biberdorf, Sparks, Anderson, and now Caudill) make it tolerable. Dr. B is funny and truly cares about her students. Go to office hours and discussion. USE THE ORANGE BOOK. I barely passed and feel like a studied an absurd amount.
Took for 301 & 302 and loved Dr. B. The class is hard but that's chemistry in general. Study for the exams. If you put in the work to understand chemistry, it's not that bad. Teaching style was more visual/kinesthetic based and gave a lot of examples for explanations (which I liked). 10/10 would recommend Dr. B or any of the trio (similar styles)
Please stay away from the trio if you can. They have too many students to take care of and really do not care much about your understanding though they say they do. Tests are made in a format that is just easiest to grade nothing to do with your chem knowledge. Any problem that slightly inconveniences them will not be addressed nor looked at.
Dr.B was truly an amazing chemistry professor, and her teaching style made it hard to not pay attention. I really appreciated her enthusiasm and the simplicity with which she talk tough concepts, making the content really easy for me to grasp. Take her!!!
Dr. Biberdorf was a great professor! The material itself can be pretty challenging, but she was such an energetic lecturer even at 8 AM and keep students engaged. As long as you use the orange book, keep up with LE's and HW, and pay attention during lecture, you'll do great in her class!
Dr. Biberdorf is a pretty good professor. The class was a bit challenging, but I would just make sure you know the content really well. Use ediscussion and DO your orange book. Make time to study for this class...if you fall behind it'll be more difficult for you to catch up and do well. Also, I recommend gchem for any topics you don't understand.
Dr.Biberdorf is incredible. Her lectures are very engaging and she is super upbeat and energetic which makes you want to learn. The class is difficult since it is chemistry, but Dr.Biberdorf makes it manageable and provides tons of resources so you can succeed. There is also extra credit by attending discussion sections. The TA's are great too.
For anyone who does not have a strong chem background, do NOT take any professor from the trio (Biberdorf, Sparks, Anderson). Dr. B's lectures and incredibly fast-paced, and she expects you to catch onto concepts quickly. Even attending office hours, discussions, and doing practice problems aren't enough to get a suitable grade.
Her teaching is pretty good, but she is extremely impersonal when you ask her questions individually. It seems like she is good at talking to a huge crowd, but when you go up to her alone, she passes you along to a TA. It feels like you are just 1 out of 300 students begging for her attention. Her teaching was sufficient though, so As are possible.
Nice person, but not the best professor. The class is incredibly disorganized with little to no support. Only reason this class was doable was due to my own study group. About half of the TAs don't know the material and the professor is borderline unreachable outside. Take Laude, but if you're forced to take the trio take Sparks or Anderson.
Shen does not go over subjects in detail, she just tells you what you need to know and expects your background to be broad. If you do get Biberdorf make sure you take a preparatory chem course or study all material before getting to the class. She does not give extra credit and does not curve, if you get one bad test grade your grade WILL DROP.
Professor Biberdorf is a great professor and her lectures are amazing. I had her 8am class and never fell asleep. She has great demos and makes her lectures fun and interactive. She uses iclicker throughout so attendance is required.
Dr. Biberdorf is amazing! Her lectures are fun and engaging. Her love for chemistry is what got me to enjoy the subject, and this was one of my favorite classes this semester. It's a difficult class and her lectures move very fast, but if you stay on top of everything and study hard (the orange course pack is very helpful) it's very doable.
Gen chem is hated by a lot of students but I can't even express how much I enjoyed being in Dr. Biberdorf's class for CH302. She was consistently excited in lectures and made the content so much more enjoyable than I had experienced in CH301. I rarely get much out of stem lectures as a student, but for this class I always did. She is amazing!!
Dr. B is so energetic when teaching it's infectious, even if you get stuck in an 8am. I took AP chem in HS so the content itself was pretty easy for me, but it definitely was fast paced for my friends without a chemistry background. 1 midterm is dropped, so I'd say as long as you study you can get at least a decent grade.
This is an absurdly hard class for an intro class. she speaks more about her louboutins than the couse material during lecture. exams are so hard, theres 4 exams (with a drop) and a final. tests are pretty much your entire grade, and she doesnt curve. our lecture went from 500 people to about 300 after 2 tests. take laude for 301 if you can.
Don't, do NOT take this class. If you score low for all four midterms, your chances of getting an "A" get lower. The final was horrendous. Don't take the class if you don't have a good chemistry background. She moves at such a fast pace and expects you to know certain things. The Demos she does are delightful; please take Laude instead.
Dr. Biberdorf is an amazing professor and has very engaging lectures with lots of experiments. Her class is very fast-paced though so if you don't have a good chemistry background it will be more difficult to pick up on the content. She is super helpful when you ask her questions and her office hours are very helpful.
Live Laugh LOVE Biberdorf! Her lectures were so energetic & she makes chemistry so fascinating. Can be easy to fall behind, so make sure you keep up with LEs/HWs/At-Home Challenges. She makes her expectations for grade & tests very clear, so you know exactly what to expect. She drops 1 test, a couple HWs+LEs, & curves iClicker.
Very funny person and overall high quality lectures. If I could criticize a couple things, it's that she sometimes rushes her lectures and doesn't fully explain certain stuff, and she is also gone on many occasions since she's kinda a celebrity. But overall, I recommend her for anyone needing to take CH301 as she's a great professor overall.
Dr. B is a nice person, but I promise you don't want to take her class. Tests (4 + final) are literally your entire grade and are quite challenging compared to the practice she posts. Also 8am lecture... not super fun. always rushed. She can be engaging at the start but it's all a facade until theres a 67 test average and she refuses to curve.
just annoying. bad prof.
Dr. Biberdorf is an amazing and engaging lecturer and she always makes lectures very fun. The class itself is not the easiest, but if you put in the work, you will end up with a good result. There are tons of office hours to attend which are very helpful if you do not understand the information. Overall not the easiest class but definitely doable.
If you're not already cracked at chemistry just don't take this class. The problem is that the lectures are rushed and some of the exams are very difficult, which is fine but there's no curve and no extra credit. Halfway through the semester, half of the class had already dropped it for CH301N.
This class was extremely difficult despite putting in a lot of work. She is a very engaging lecturer but refuses to curve or give extra credit. Exams are tough and make up 85% of your grade but one gets dropped. If you can take a different prof, do it. If not, go to a lot of office hours and do all the practice problems you can.
for an 8 am class, i got easily sleepy but she did have fun experiments to keep me up. she never seemed tired in class. regardless, the tests were ok, not too hard; the final was hard for me cause i didn't study a lot. purple and orange books aren't really necessary to buy; i got an a average on regular tests without them. just study hard.
got a 99 in the class, and i hate chem + only took preap 3 yrs ago. biberdorf makes it so so easy and manageable (and entertaining!!) even for an 8 am class. just do all the LEs, HW, practice problems, and old tests as instructed. TAs are all accessible, but office hours can get busy and you may not be able to ask questions. excited for 302 w her!
I liked CH 301 with Biberdorf but I will say that even though the lectures helped, you truly have to study outside of class and PRACTICE PROBLEMS ARE A GODSEND for this class. For all tests, do the previous years exams that they post, go through the slides and do the at-home practice problems, and you should be set for an A on most of the exams.
Dr. Biberdorf is an awesome teacher and super good lecturer! The class is extremely test heavy for your grade so make sure to study but if you attend lectures and do the homework you will do well. She is extremely entertaining and I am taking her again for CH302
I LOVE HER. lectured in a way that was super engaging and made the concepts easy to understand. i didnt take ap chem so i was worried i'd be behind, but she made it easy! BUY THE ORANGE BOOK. DO PRACTICE TESTS. USE ED DISCUSSION. ed discussion was a LIFE SAVER
Dr. B is a good prof and made my 8am not too bad. Exams are HARD, however, and worth 85% of your grade with no redos or extra credit to help. Lots of HW assignments and learning exercises before class which usually just made me confused. Her TAs were mostly very kind and helpful. Talks about her other activities frequently, but it didn't bother me.
I saw a comment that said that there are no extra credit opportunities, that's false, there were extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. She's an excellent lecturer, everything you need to know is in the lectures. You'll have to spend time outside of class if this is the first time you're seeing the material. She has lectures online.
Has so many students that there's no possible way to form a connection or care for them. I got roofied two days before an exam and had a concussion and was told that I could either take my exam or accept a zero. She seems great at first, but I had a really time following lectures and she quickly became my least favorite professor.
Good lectures, easy to follow and informative. Only problem is with how much the tests are worth, so make sure to practice a lot. Final is worth 25%. Lots of homework and LEs, but she drops some of each. No extra credit.
Dr Biberdorf is an amazing and entertaining professor. She is very high energy and uses this to keep you engaged. There is a lot of information thrown at you during the lectures so be prepared to spend plenty of time after class to review the material just learned. A lot of the learning is done outside of the class. Overall great experience!
Best and most engaging class I have taken!!! I had Dr. Biberdorf for CH301 and I am taking her CH302 course. I loved her class and lectures! She knows how to keep an 8 am class interesting. If you have a chance to learn from her please take it because she cares about her students. Use her resources online and go to class/office hours!
Great CH301 professor! It's possible to get a good grade, but you have to work for it. She doesn't go over high school concepts, so review before taking 301. Her lectures were very engaging for 8am. She has hundreds of students, so it's difficult to have develop an actual relationship. Overall though, I would recommend taking Biberdorf if you can!
I loved Dr. Biberdorf's class! Her lectures are engaging and memorable, and the homework was effective for understanding the content. Only caveat is she's hard to approach, since in a class of 300+ students, everything is delegated to TAs and LAs.
Absolutely loved her. She's pretty clear on what kind of stuff will be on the exam and they give you so many resources so you can definitely do well if you work. She's great at explaining concepts and makes the class a lot more fun. Take her if you can
Everybody loves her.
She's cool and class itself wasn't bad, but it's pretty obvious that she cares more about her TV appearances and social media presence than her students. Not accessible because of the sheer size of the class and she always flew off somewhere during the school year. Take her class if you don't plan on getting rec letters/getting to know your prof!
CH 301 with Biberdorf is infuriating. Luckily, the content itself is easy so you'll be fine, but get ready to hear a narcissist talk about herself 24/7 while lecturing. We get it, you have a persona outside of UT and you go to daytime talk shows. Please just stick to teaching when you're in the classroom. I've never had a prof more full of herself.
If you did good in AP Chem in high school you'll breeze through this class. If you didn't, Dr. Biberdorf makes everything seem easy. Very engaging and keeps you up during her 8 am lectures.
Everyone talks about how cool she is, which is true. The course is 85% tests, so be sure to study. The class is built so that you get lots of practice with material beforehand.
Highly energetic and interactive professor. Very caring towards her students and usually readily answers questions in class. She clearly loves what she does, and tries her best to get the students energized. Many TAs to help answer individual questions.
She is a good lecturer but often talks about herself, which gets annoying. It is a flipped classroom style, so expect to teach yourself a lot with the LEs and HW. In class, it is more of just a quick review and application. The tests range in difficulty, which makes it harder to know what to expect.
Dr. B was good overall, but I feel like she could have explained some concepts better. Somewhat helpful in office hours though.
Dr. Biberdorf is an amazing prof. hands down. She completely changed my experience in college level chemistry, making the subject engaging (which I NEVER thought was possible after my prof for CH301). While the content can be challenging, she provides so many resources to help you succeed, is so approachable, and her exams are always so fair.
Dr. B is an amazing professor!! I would take her again if I could!!
Dr. B is an amazing CH 301 and CH 302 professor! While the content may be challenging for someone who didn't have a good high school chemistry experience, there are plenty of resources available to help students succeed. Dr. B is energetic and inspirational, and it is obvious that she loves what she does and cares about her students' success.
one of the best professors ever, and clearly cares for her students and wants them to do well. i used to hate chem but earned an a+ both semesters with her. your grade is completely determined by the amount of effort you put in, but biberdorf makes chem very learnable. her ta/la team is also great and they all want you to succeed.
Dr. B changed my perspective as a first-year student, and I will miss her so much! Hardest class I had to take this year but I've never felt so supported by a prof with hundreds of students. Teaching team is super organized and stick to a strict schedule, but the class has lots of content and is easy to fall behind. TAs were a godsend as well.
This class was doable but extremely difficult if you dont have previous chem knowledge such as AP, DC,etc. If was overall manageable and even though i wont get the grade i want, i can truly say i learned a lot. LA/TA team especially Tyler was superb this semester and they're are LOTS of office hours. She will be missed! Go be great at Notre Dame:)
Very fun and makes 8 am lectures not as painful. She does go fast, but it's still understandable. Lots of resources to succeed (practice problem book, practice tests, self tests, etc.). Many fun demos
Amazing lecturer. I was actually able to learn with her. Tests are difficult but the workbook practice questions prepared me for the tests. Would definitely recommend!!
Dr. B rocks. This is my second semester with her & she truly made me fall in love with chemistry. Her lectures are phenomenal. Grade comes mostly from tests (drops 1). Always crammed for the tests and did fine. Go to class, lock in, and you'll be fine. Most helpful resource are her office hours and lecture slides. Orange book is a waste of $$ imo.
TAKE DR. B! I had her for 2 semesters and am so glad I did. She provides you with ALL the resources needed to succeed and I appreciate her efforts to listen to students' feedback. She brought so much energy to her morning classes, and she made me LOVE chemistry! I can't recommend her enough! (also, her demos are rlly fun!)
Her class is well suited for students with a background in chem but not so much for the rest. Although I do believe she is a good professor and will challenge you--something you NEED if you're pre-med--her exams were tricky and you need to put 100x more effort than you think you do if you want to excel. She isn't terrible. but her exams were.
Dr. Biberdorf is a good and challenging professor. I think taking 302 was easier than 301 with her. Although her exams this past year were terrible for my mental health, she is definitely one of the best. Her class was captivating and she has a lot of patience (especially in office hours). She will be missed at UT.
Super involved and passionate teacher. Great lectures and pretty easy tests. Great experience overall.
Flipped classroom, "learning exercises" are due before lecture days so that you have a foundation. Attendance is mandatory but is curved. She's energetic during lectures and does not bore you. I found the orange practice book to be very helpful for studying for the exams. There are four exams (1 drop) and a final. Exams were 20Q and a page of FRQ.
One of the worst professors at UT Austin. Incredibly inflexible and unwilling to compromise on test retakes, even in the case of emergencies. Exams are incredibly difficult, and the lecture content is often overwhelming. Do not recommend.
Dr. B is an engaging professor who makes chemistry enjoyable. The exams are challenging but the resources she provides, like office hours and slides, are incredibly helpful. Unstuckstudy AI is a great study tool alongside the free textbook. Overall, a rewarding experience.
She spends more time talking about herself than teaching the class. I wonder if she is really there to teach or talk about herself.
CH 301 with Biberdorf is infuriating. The content itself is easy so you'll be fine, but get ready to hear a narcissist talk about herself 24/7 while lecturing. She is annoying. You have a persona outside of UT and you go to daytime talk shows. Please just stick to teaching when you're in the classroom. I've never had a prof more full of herself.
never in class because she was always trying to appear on television. didn't bother getting to know her students at all, she's the biggest narcissist i've ever met. you learn more from the TAs than through the professor.
