She can't explain more than one way; however, notes are on Blackboard, so that is helpful! Tests are M.C.
I feel sorry for this professor. She tries very hard, but her accent makes it very hard for her to get her ideas and messages across. she is very willing to help if you ask for it. She does have a hard time explaining in more than one way.
It is really hard to understand her with her thick accent. If your pet peeve is people repeating the last four words of every sentence, don't take her! On the bright side, she is a very nice person and does care about how you do in the class.
Very Nice Lady! Just hard to understand.
I thought she was a really great Professor to have because she actually cares about how you do. She is a bit hard to understand, though.
She does care how you do in the class because she puts ALL of her notes on blackboard but she is kinda hard to understand.
She is very considerate of students!
horrible..horrible..she was so hard to understand that i had to read the book and teach myself the material. i ended up dropping the class because of her accent and lack of teaching skills. i feel sorry for her because she is a nice lady; however teaching is not her thing. avoid her if possible.
I really liked Dr. He. It's true that her accent makes it hard to understand what is going on, but she's very knowledgable about her subject and is ver willing to help anyone in the class.
She is very sweet and willing to help you. She is very hard to understand though. Once you figure out in this class what is going on, you will do fine.
She is a really sweet lady, who cares how the students do on the test. She is always willing to help anyone who stays after class or emails her. The test arnt really hard if you study. Her accent isnt really that bad either. She seemes to repeat so you memorize alot of the notes.
Very nice professor, but does not control her class well, which makes it very hard to concentrate. She explains concepts well and seems to love her subject. All notes on Blackboard, which is great. Tests are hard, but you'll be fine if you attend class and read the chapters.
Nice lady, wants you to understand with all her heart. Her accent is not that bad!
This is a difficult class, but its difficult no matter who teaches it. Dr. He was a good teacher. You have quizzes a lot, but they help out your grade b/c they are easy and u can help each other during the quiz. During lecture its easy to get distracted b/c she doesn't control her class very well
Kate He is the shiznite! She is not that hard to understand. She repeats herself often and will give any help if asked for. Take her. Plus her accent is kind of sexy.
Very sweet lady that is very passionate about her job-would do anything to help you to understand the subject-her accent isn't that bad-repeats quite a bit
Easy as one, two, sree
THe class and the teacher aren't hard but she repeats everything 3 times in a row. Bery Bery confusing confusing confusing
Dr. He is very helpfull and speaks English extremelly well. Her accent resembles everyone elses. However, her tests do require you to study HER examples. Attend lecture on a regular basis because she only says her examples in lecture, and they make up the bulk of her exams.
She knows her material well & will elaborate on it ..a lot. Very nice teacher & more then willing to help you out in things you don't understand. Go to the lecture and you'll be fine.
Dr. He is adorable. Although at times you cannot understand because of her accent, she is more than willing to help. Do the homework for an easy A.
Absoutley the cutest professor ever!
Dr. He is such a sweet women and she is a very good teacher. She really wants you to learn and enjoy the class! Although she does have a slight accent, I thought she was easy to understand! I would definetly try to take another one of her classes! And, she is just so cute!
Dr. He is an amazing teacher. She is really nice and approachable. The only problem I had with the class is that she doesn't control her class very well. A lot of talking in her class and she seems to want to be too nice about correcting it. Attend lectures and pay attention. Study hard and you will get a good grade!
She is so cute and nice. She really wants students to learn and will help whenever needed. Her tests weren't hard as long as you study exactly what she tells you to study.
Dr. He can be hard to understand but is very nice and tries to help her students. I would take her again for a Bio class. She is funny too!
Hard to understand. Gives extra credit so go to class. She gets a little boring because she repeats herself, but just pay attention and look over your notes and you'll be fine.
As far as Biology professors go...she is awesome. She will explain any question you have and doesn't load you down with too much homework. Her tests are easy if you study what she tells you.
Very sweet and grades things very easy. Come to class and you'll do well.
She's a good, caring professor and she isn't that hard to understand if you just try to pay attention. Her exams can be tricky, but she expects you to put in the effort to do well. She will help you as much as she can if you ask for it.
Dr. He is very nice and really cares about her students. She even makes it a point to try to know everyone's name even though it's a huge class. However her this class was a lot harder than I was expecting it to be. Her tests are tricky, so study VERY carefully, because the tests are very specific. So study hard and go to class!
read the text, her tests are 90% stuff you don't talk about in class
Dr. He...extremely easy, super nice, funny. Never gives hw, go to class because she will give you extra credit, 10 point online quizzes that are simple! she posts study guides for upcoming exams...not many college professors do that anymore these days....if you take bio...take her
Dr. He's class was a breeze. While most people were complaining about biology being their hardest class, I was excited I had taken her. She gives online quizzes, posts her lecture outlines online, posts great study guides, and gives extra credit if you show up to class. The quiz questions are usually several of the test questions.
Dr. He is an Amazing professor! She is very clear! Offers Extra Credit... Every test, i believe you have 4 including the final, are all multiple choice! She is willing to help and she can be very personable also! Overall she is great!!!! Take her!!!!
Dr. He: excellent professor; encouraging; truly cares about her students. Class: PowerPoint outlines w/missing words & sections. Fill in the blank during class. No cell phones! Online 10 pt quizzes. Tests: great study guides & in class reviews. Good attendance = extra credit, so go to class. Nice person & will help you! Take her! No regrets!
She's a good teacher. She only uses her PowerPoint slides for the tests so if you have a friend who can give you the notes going to class is pointless. If you're willing to ask for help she's incredibly helpful, and when you take Bio 101 she's really sympathetic to the majority of being being there only because they have to be
Really cares about the subject and wants you to understand it. Willing to help if you ask for it. Weekly online quizes and 4 exams. The class is difficult but with studying you an A is doable. She is so nice and really sweet. Sometimes gives extra credit for attendance. Don't buy the book. She will tell you you need it but you really don't.
Attendance wasn't actually mandatory, but if you attended on a regular basis, she gave bonus points to the final grade. All of her quizzes and tests come straight from the power points, so you don't have to buy a book. I didn't. She posts all of her notes and outlines on Blackboard, which is useful if you miss a class.
Don't buy the book! Dr He is so nice and she never gives homework. Just make sure you come to class and dp the online quizzes and you'll do fine!
Awesome teacher! very helpful and very good at teaching the material. Test were all comprehensive but she always informed us exactly what was going to be on every test prior to us taking it.
Great at teaching about plants! Tests were all multiple choice, but you still have to study a lot for this class. Its not an easy class, but Dr. He makes if interesting and easier. Recommend this teacher for every class she teaches!
It is hard to get past her accent but she is passionate about what she teaches. I hated the class and the test were extremely difficult.
Dr. He is a great professor who cares deeply about whether her students understand the material she is teaching. I would definitely take her again. Her accent isn't hard to understand at all as long as you're actually paying attention. It actually made me enjoy the lectures more at times. :)
She is a good teacher. I had trouble with her accent at first, but I got more used to it during the semester. She makes the class interesting and she really cares about her students. She can be unclear about assignments at times, but she is a fair grader. She is very helpful and approachable. I would take her again.
Class is easy. Tests are hard. I never cracked open my book, she gives powerpoints. Her quizzes are simple, her tests were hard for me. She covers a lot of material in one sitting. Prepare for notes I suggest using Evernote, if you write it you won't keep up. She is very sweet and repeats a lot.
For Bio 222, botany, don't bother with buying the expensive text book unless you aren't going to class. She uses power point, posted them to canvas, and all material on the test is covered in class. She explains things very well and although the accent can take some getting used to, it does not hinder her teaching at all. Very helpful! Love her!
Dr. He is an excellent choice for BIO 101! She is probably the nicest Biology professor and she is helpful. There is a bit of a language barrier, but it isn't the worst. Her tests were 50 multiple choice questions- she even had an occasional attendance quiz. I took it in 2011, attendance was mandatory and book use was moderate.
Accent is tough to understand
she is so hard to understand...I have taken her twce and failed twice because I couldn't understand her Asian accent.
Dr. He is fabulous. The class (botany) is a bore but she makes it as entertaining as she can. Make sure to take strong notes during lecture because that is directly where she gets her test questions from. What an awesome professor though. She is really dedicated to getting to know her students, which also means she will know when you skip.
Dr. He does her best to make this a really fun class, but all in all, I think I just wasn't into the subject matter enough. All the group work was tough to work out, and the tests were hard, but manageable.
She does have an accent, but she is a distinguished biologist and I've learned a lot in her class. She posts the powerpoint on canvas so I usually copy it down before class then take notes over what she emphasizes in class. She hates when people leave early, just go to class and stay the whole time
When I took this class, she started the semester with having mandatory attendance. However about half way through, she stopped taking it, and I stopped going. I went only for test days and still managed to get an A in the class. However, if you decide to not go, be ready to study for the tests because they are difficult but she posts study guides.
I took her for BIO101 and overall her class was ok. Her accent was kind of hard to understand but she was very passionate about teaching. I relied on the notes I took during class, so skipping class wasn't an option. Also DO NOT buy the book! You will never use it! And her tests were difficult if you did not study.
This was a great class. Dr. He is the best biology professor I have ever had at MSU and I am a junior. If you pay attention, study about an hour after each class you will get an A. She is very approachable and very caring towards her students. No pop quizzes, lab is very straightforward. I highly recommend!!!!
Though sometimes difficult to understand, Dr. He tried to be as clear and concise as possible with the criteria given to her. The class is very participation heavy, so be active and you'll do fairly well. She likes to talk to people and get to know her students.
Clear notes and grading criteria. If you go to class pay attention, plus moderate studying, you'll pass. During class she tells exactly what will be on the test, so listen to her. Participation in class will earn you brownie points. She grades by attendance, quizzes, tests, and lab grade. The final is cumulative. Loved her, she's sweet and cares.
Dr. He genuinely cares about her students and is active with them in lab. She'll take time to help you if you ask and will even go over your pasts tests with you! While participation wasn't mandatory, she does give out a participation grade, so definitely make sure you go. Pre-lab quizzes and occasional in class quizzes, but never a pop quiz.
Dr. He is a great choice for botany. She tests you on a lot of stuff from the book, or fine print within her ppts, so pay attention to detail. I was at a high B in the class, and because I was present in every class (she uses Tophat for attendance every day) and went and talked to her after every test and got help, she bumped me up to an A.
Dr. He is such a caring person, and clearly knows botany well. Pay attention to every single little detail in lectures and powerpoints, though. She will put the smallest details on exams. Dr. He is very approachable if you ever have questions!
Extremely difficult class, most minute details are on the tests, most tests had like 50-100 questions over every single detail. Not a great lecturer either, had trouble staying awake. I never missed a class and studied but I got a D.
Be ready to teach yourself! The professor doesn't give much information besides telling you what you need to learn. The textbook will be your teacher. There is an assignment due every week and only have 24 hours to complete it with only one attempt. An online course shouldn't have this strict of a schedule since we have other classes to attend.
Dr. He is incredible! Yes, the class is only offered online so if you complain about the work then do not take online classes. Her quizzes every week and tests are nothing but verbatum from the book and lectures. It's med term so it's not that hard of a class anyway. Can easily reach out to her outside class too!
Tests are very specific, which can be a nightmare for taking notes since you don't always know what you should write down. Luckily, she does post a study guide for each test. She also has lab and lecture quizzes that are specific, so, again, you need to pay very close attention in class. Somewhat easy to get C in, but super hard to get an A.
Dr. He is a wonderful person. The class is very straightforward and you can tell that she sincerely loves to teach and loves her students. You will succeed if you put in the effort!! I cant wait to have her for future classes!
Dr. He is a very sweet person, but her class was pretty difficult. Need to be proficient in excel and be prepared for hard grading. However, she always helps her students if you reach out and she is very lenient about certain deadlines. Really sweet professor, really boring class.
Dr. he is very difficult to talk with, she doesn't understand anything clearly. She is always confused when asking her a question over the material she teaches and will not help you. She does not reply to emails. catching her in class is the only way to contact her. I have taken her for two semester in a row and would not recommend her.
Couldnt understand her or hear her. There was so much content that was so hard. At one point seriously questioned if it was English on the PowerPoint. Tests were very difficult ans a lot of the grade weight. Would recommend everyone to NOT take her.
Dr. He, although hard to understand sometimes, is a wonderful professor and a lovely individual. Her class is sometimes hard to sit through, its not very engaging. Labs are fun and the material is super interesting. Her quizzes and exams come straight from the lecture slides/lectures its an easy class if you put in the work.
Take notes take notes take notes!!!!!!!! STUDY!! Tests are extremely hard and she also uses webcam/lockdown browser. You can tell she cares for her students but tests usually dont have what was covered in class and are worded odd
Dr. He clearly cares that her students do well. She always tells the students exactly what to study and does a good job with her lectures.
I love her as a person, you can tell she knows and loves what she's talking about. Over the semester we fell behind schedule and were at one point a couple of weeks behind. She takes a long time going through slides and the last couple of weeks were very rushed, with two chapters not covered in class on the final, plus u take a lab final
Do not take this professor. Over half of your grade will come from exams, of which there are 5. All other grades come from the lab final, and lab and lecture quizzes. She gives you a study guide for all exams but rarely do they ever reflect what is actually on the exam. Spent hours studying from the study guides only to barely pass this course.
The teacher herself is caring and nice, but the grade scaling is utterly awful. The majority of your grades will come from 5 exams and you will need to have a perfect score on the lab quizzes to get a high grade. I obtained a 9/10 on a lab quiz only for it to lower my grade even when my grade was an 80.52 bringing my grade to an 80.02. Do not take.
Dr. He is nice, but it's HARD to do well in her class. Her study guides don't reflect the test, so if you study it for hours you'll get a C at best. Her definition of a "very good" test average is within the C range. She includes lectures that were given not even 48 hours before the test, so it feels impossible to fully learn the material.
She loves what she teaches but can be confusing at times. This class is easy if you pay attention in lectures and participate in the lab with additional studying this is an easy A.
Everything hinges on your ability to listen to her talk and then do really well on tests. Your grade will basically rely on your ability to take tests well- there are small in class quizzes regularly and she does count attendance, but it's not worth a lot. She can be a bit difficult to hear talk.
Dr. He is very passionate about plants, and she is very charismatic. As a professor, though, she's pretty average. Her lectures are not interactive and hard to get through, I would go through the content on your own time. Study the slides and not just the study guides for the exams, because she will throw random questions from them on there.
The stacks of notes are difficult to understand, and she doesn't talk very loudly, so it's pretty hard to hear anything. The tests are extremely hard. Everyone in this class has a 50% or lower right now. No matter how hard you study, the questions are insane. You will ONLY do good if you already understand and know everything about BIO/Chem.
She is nice. But as a freshman, I feel like you almost have to be fluent in biology at a not freshman level, to pass her class. Our only grades are quizzes and tests. Our class average is a C and she seems proud of that which is odd. There is no interaction except lecture. Her study guides are pretty useless. My advice, study pictures, use yt.
You cant hear her when she is teaching. Exams are lockdown browser and must be taken in class. This class is not tough as an intro level course. If you fail the first exam its almost impossible to bring your grade back up . She doesn't really help you. If you are a freshman or sophomore do not take this class until you have learned how to study.
You get graded by quizzes and tests only. I passed 20 different Kahoot quizzes the nights before finals, and as someone stated before the way the tests answer options are worded makes it a mental gymnastics, and the tests seem like they are made for someone who is crazy fluent in biology. I am so glad that class is over. I hate biology now.
