She is the worse prof i have ever had. Her 1st exam only 2 people out of 34 got a B. She is so lost during the lecture and very confused. She makes mistakes in her notes and doesn't follow the book so you have no other sources to learn. I went to her office hour and there was 14 peeople there. TAKE IT WITH DIFF PROF SAVE YOUR TIME & MONEY
She is very energetic. Which made orgo a bit better. Slightly disorganized and tests are difficult. Gives take home exams that are so rediculously hard thats it is nearly impossible to do well on and she will admit that. Biggest problem was you never had clear guidlines to follow for exams. She goes by her own note packets that are 15+ pg long.
Katelyn is one of the best chem professors u can take at OCC hands down. She covers everything u need to know, and doesnt leave u w/ sections not covered in class for u to read up on. Not sure y others have neg thoughts but Im happy she came to OCC b/c the other chem profs are a nightmare and give tons of hw and reading! take Cottone trust me!
A science instructor who doesn't read the text in class is a blessing.Engaging, eager to help, well prepared, enthusiastic about the subject matter and knowledgeable, esp. in common areas of difficulty.Exams are fair, grading very lenient, provides copious review materials and clear notes.Difficulty well balanced with requirements of the syllabus.
She is the best teacher I have ever had in occ, she explain very well, and she makes the class very fun and never boring, her tests are fair I took my orgo 1 with her last semester and now I'm taking her in orgo 2. People that complain are just people that are not hard working students. In my opinion she is the best teacher ever
One of the most nicest teachers ever, she is very helpful and answers all the questions, doesn't rush students, very fun teacher, I don't understand why people give neg reviews , students you need to understand there isn't an easy A , put enough work and you'll do great, her office hours are very useful, best teacher ever
I believe Professor Cottone is a decent professor, but she definitely has an attitude. She also scheduled out last test the day before our final, which was extremely stressful and I didn't feel I had enough time to fully prepare. It was a summer class so it's rushed, but she still should've thought it out better.
I had Katelyn for orgo 1 & 2. She is more than willing to help students during her office hours or through email. Organic chemistry takes effort, if you go in expecting to work hard, you will do well. You can tell she still remembers what it is like to be a student, which helps tons! Best science prof I have ever had! Thank you Katelyn!
She is the best teacher for Chemistry...very clear. always willing to help students in class or during office hours...pretty new thoghts about the students and understand quite well problems of the class n students. gives enough practice in class for tests and exams...going to register for organic 2 for sure...
Her notes come straight from the Klein textbook. Not the worst teacher I've had, but on the bottom of my list. This is the only course I've taken at OCC so can't compare to professors there. She is stuck up & not nice. Also, when the class test average is a D somethings not right.
This by far one of my favorite classes that I took in occ. I am glad I had her as a teacher, she is very helpful, funny, and make the class very fun, her tests aren't hard, for me they were easy. It's a orgo chem so you have to expect to do some work outside class, she has office hours which you can go there to get furthere her
This teacher is by far the worst teacher I have had in my education career. She downgardes her students when you ask questions, makes you feel dumb in fromt of the whole class. Is soooo picky when it comes to grading, will mark you down for the smallest of things that teachers I had in the past would of never cared about.
absolutely the worst professor ever, shes walks around thinking shes the best and better then everyone. Thinks shes right all the time, and makes you feel like your dumb in front of other students. HARDEST GRADER I have ever had, puts stuff on test that we never learned and expects us to just figure it out. She calls it the "think outside the box"
Well she is a good teacher but she always thinks she's right and I find that highly annoying plus even thought she's a science teacher she acts like a English teacher. She will mark you down for not having periods and commas and stuff like that.
I highly recommend you not to take this teacher because she grades everything so hard and minuses so many points. She also gives you questions on the test worth like 4 - 5 points that she never taught in class so there goes all the extra credit you got. Plus she's a really hard grader so don't expect to get a good grade on the test.
very hard class, she is soo anoying and cares about the smallest of things. She acts like she can spell everything perfect, but so many times she messes up words during lecture. But if we spell something wrong on a test she'll mark us wrong for that problem. wants everything in pen and if you write in pencial thats more points off. Soooooooo picky
she tells you to not buy the book. She grades lije a crazy lady, take some other teacher for chemistry
Knows her chem but is a poor prof. She looks for minute things to subtract points for. Very unorganized. Takes forever to grade work(must be due to all the points she subtracts). You'll need all 18 e.c. points to cover your losses. Gets fustrated when questions are asked so don't bother asking. She'll take the points if you get it right anyway.
she will not help you if you come up to her and ask. She will downgrade you in front of everyone and just tell you to drop. what kind of teacher does that? Take someone else and save your money
very hard class. the way she grades every little detail, good luck trying to pass this hell hole. Im warning you know, DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!
labs are tough, exams are insane, overall veryy hard class & its almost impossible to pass with an "A" or "B" take someone else for chemistry
She's definitely not the greatest there is. None of her homework assignments or prep work match what shows on tests. She is not helpful. When teaching she explains things as if you already know the material. There are no in depth lessons. I'm hoping over time she is able to find what makes students achieve, because right now she does not have it.
have had a few chem professors at OCC, Katelyn Cottone is by far the best.Has made me do a tun of work, but I am better student for all that she demands
At first I did not like Professor Cottone but as the class progressed she grew on me. Definitely a knowledgeable teacher. The class was difficult and she was strict on grading. However, if you put in a lot of work getting an A is possible. She was very unorganized though and got off topic which was her biggest flaw. I'd recommend her though.
this lady is very hard, she is so crazy in her grading. will mark you down for some things like sig figs, when other teachers dont mind baby stuff like that. the test are very diffcult and you will try your best and still wont pass with an A. just take someone else, save yourself the stress and save your time and money,Trust me I learned thehardway
the worst teacher I have ever had. Do not take her
I really liked Professor Cottone. She is an excellent teacher compared to other OCC Gen Chem I teachers. I wish she taught Gen Chem II
Awesome teacher, if you pay attention and ask questions in class everything is very straightforward. Would recommend if interested in taking further chemistry courses.
She's a great teacher, just doesn't tolerate students wanting an easy route. She is very knowledgeable and will spend time helping students who don't understand/fall behind. However her class is very difficult and is in no way easy. If you just need chemistry for a science credit pass, if you plan on a science degree this is the class you take.
Prof. Cottone really cares about her students and their success. Very enthusiastic, clear and helpful. Orgo isn't easy course but she makes it as easy as she can. Great professor!
Cottone is one of the best teachers I've had. She is extremely knowledgeable, gives you all the tools you need to be successful, & is very helpful. It is difficult because of the subject matter, not because of her. The people who review her poorly didn't work hard enough & wanted to be spoon-fed answers.
Mrs. Cottone is an excellent professor. You will never get left behind in this class because she moves at a very manageable pace. Covers all the material in class, and no book is required. If you ever have a question about a tough topic she's more than willing to help. Be VERY prepared for labs. Actually responds to email. Great experience.
Katelyn Cottone is probably the best organic chem instructor you will ever have. The material is presented clearly, and the class moves at a manageable pace. Try taking this class at other institutions and you'll see what I mean. She loves chem, and it shows. Details count with her, as they should. Wanna go into medicine? Details count there too!
Very good professor. As others have said, the subject matter is not easy but Cottone is very clear and is a great teacher. You will have to work to be successful but she is extremely helpful and encourages questions.
She is an ok professor, far from the best though. Her notes are directly from the Klein txtbook so there isn't any difference from her notes & just reading the book yourself. The class average from beginning to end was a D, which is a problem. She doesn't stay on subject very well either. If you can, take orgo w/someone else.
Only good thing about this class is that it is over. By far one of the rudest professors I have had. She was a lot better towards the end of the semester, and her final was the only exam that was well written. Her attitude towards her students was the worst thing about this class. Probably why I never said a word to her all semester.
Great Professor if you stay on her good side. Exams are tough, except the last couple. Study hard and you will do fine
As a pre-med student, I've had a lot of science professors; however, Katelyn Cottone is the least helpful and most unclear of them all. Her tests look little, if much at all, like what she teaches and expects you to learn in class; I know because I attended all of her classes religiously, and took every test, until I was forced to drop. DO NOT TAKE
I had the worst semester because of cattone, do not take her class. If you need chesmistery try to not take it with this teacher she will not help, her grading is the worst, she will always find a way to take off points no matter what you do or how much you study she is such a Rude person she embarrass Her students in front of the class .
She is one of the worst teachers ever. She speaks to her students and lectures in a condescending way. She truly makes it obvious that she thinks she's superior to and smarter than her students. I dreaded going to her class and to make it even worse her tests barely reflected the material in lecture. It is a self taught course. Stay clear.
She does no respect her students and is rude and mean at times. She thinks she is always right about everything and gets frustrated if the same people ask a lot of questions. She does not give extra credit and does not curve tests. She said one time no one ever gets A's in my class. She was always sarcastic in a very rude way that was just mean.
She does embarrass her students in front of everyone. She has no respect for anyone and thinks that because she has a masters in chemistry that she is smarter than everyone even though she works at a community college. She answers questions as if your dumb for not knowing something. Takes off as many points as she can for tests so you dont get an A
class is over, cottone is very interesting she is a good teacher when it come to the subject matter, but I agree with who ever said she is rude and crazy when it come to gards, she'll answer the student back and she'll shut ppl down. Her exams do not reflect her notes, I hope she changes in the future and takes it easy she need to relax .
Cottone is very interesting , she is a good teacher when it come to the subject matter, but I agree with who ever said she is rude and crazy when it come to gards, she'll answer the student back and she'll shut ppl down. Her exams do not reflect her notes, I hope she changes in the future and takes it easy she need to relax .
Textbook is great If you MUST take her: BE EARLY GO TO ALL TUTORING SESSIONS and COMPLETE ALL STUDY GUIDES, HOMEWORK, & READING, prior to class. ASK Qs but she's the most difficult professor I've ever had. Org chem is hard enough, you don't need to take it with a professor who has the attitude "I know more than half my class will fail".
Claims all students come to her class because it's easier then taking at a university. Well, I took this class at a university and got a A when I took it with her and was failing and had to drop out after the first month. Worst teacher ever, loves to take off points on exams for no reason. Take orgo somewhere else.
Ms. Cottone is the best teacher I have ever had. She is very helpful and be there for you when you need her. If you want to learn about organic chemistry and do well in PCAT, MCAT, or GRE, her class is for you. I had a great time in her classes. Thank you so much Ms. Cottone!
This was the 2nd class I had with Cottone. Orgo is a HARD class anywhere, but very passable if you attend class & readstudy the materials. I asked for help from SI & often went to Cottone's office hours. She was always helpful. Tests were always based on notes, most of which she clearly provided. You will need to work, but it was worth it.
Very committed & willing to help. Fair & attentive to catch misconceptions that would hurt you later. My take: playful to add energy to class & asks questions not to embarrass, but to identify and correct errors of thought. Exams where I truly studied I got an A. If studied part, skimmed part & hoped for lucky set of ?'s --the "A" didn't occur
Professor Cottone is by far one of the best teachers out there. That being said, she will push you in everything you set out to do. A lot of the people that are complaining want an easy A. If that's what you want, go some where else. If you want to become the best doctor, pharmacist, student than take her. Also, ask her draw something chiral
Professor Cottone is a very clear and organized teacher. She has the material organized in a fashion that is easy to understand; considering orgo is such a hard subject. Plan to stay on top of the material by doing the problems in the textbook and being prepared for the weekly quizzes. She does not offer any extra credit. Be prepared to study.
LOVED HER She knows her material really well and makes it fun you won't doze off in class I PROMISE Weekly simple quizzes that solidify ideas do all book problems you'll get an A orgo needs practice Answers any questions you have is an approachable human not a robot with a degree 35 extra credit pts as prblm sets TAKE
Great professor cute and hilarious! The class is structured differently more group work then heavy lectures. Do all the readings, pre labs, and assigned home work and you will be fine. She is very knowledgeable in what she teaches, you will learn!
the class was more of a fish market, everybody is talking. Yet the level of education was more than what i expected. May be because it was an easy class. But i would take her class again.
I thought teachers were supposed to teach? If you don't keep up on reading and aren't YouTube/Google friendly well... good luck then.
Ms. Cottone is an OUTSTANDING Organic Chemist, she knows exactly what she's doing and why. Those individuals who complain are simply lazy. Organic chemistry is a class which requires a significant amount of time devoted to practice and studying. If you are willing to put fourth the effort required in organic chemistry then you will succeed with her
Be careful when you talk to her, because she is temperamental. and she can flip in a second and embarrass you in front of the class. prepare to teach yourself. she care about students who go to her office hours and ask her about anything they don't know. she welcome it. she is a tough grader tho. so make sure you write everything down. exam is ok
Professor Cottone is knowledgeable. The feedback she gives is short but comprehensive. Her exams are clear, they includes examples as done previously in class, so if you study systematically you will do well. You will have to study a lot by yourself, but she gives attendance quizzes that help you summarize important concepts. Would take her again.
The worst professor you will ever have. Do not take her class!! Shes very rude and disrespects her students as if shes the only one that knows everything. Save yourself the stress and avoid her.
knows what shes teaching and is very straight forward about what will be on the tests. las are fun and shes always making jokes! definately the class to take if you need chemistry for MTA
YOU NEED TO TAKE HER CLASS!
Best chem teacher at occ. literally gives you everything you need to ace the tests. Tells you exactly what to study with review sheets. Way better than Choden in waterford by a long shot.
Professor Cottone helped me to learn more than i would have anywhere else. She cares about her students that give a damn.
This class was awesome you work in groups which sounds like its gonna suck but its great you learn so much and if the group cant think through a problem she is there to walk you through. I learned so much and it was easy
I loved her teaching style so much I took her twice! She is great no joke she says this is gonna be on the test if you are listening its very casual. But mark it. Its on the test you have to try to not get a good grade In her class!
Cottone has a unique teaching style. If you aren't good with working in a group then you won't like this class. Book and lab manual both mandatory. Does not accept tardiness! Answers questions clearly.
Mrs. Cottone's teaching style didn't really work for me. She puts you in a group with 3 classmates and you teach yourselves the material everyday. Thankfully my group had a med student who knew everything right from the start and he carried us to victory, though it was obvious the other groups struggled by themselves. Definitely not for everyone.
I failed high school chem and got a B+ in her course. Show up, do the work, study what she tells you and you're good.
Mrs. Cottone was one oh my favorite teachers. You have to come to class if you want to pass the tests, but she is very clear about what will be one the tests. you just need to listen when she speaks.
I took Mrs. Cottone for org I. This class was taught POGIL style(a system where we students basically understand the material on our own through QA's), not lecture . It was hard adjusting at first, but once you get used to it, it's doable. She's a great professor who understands the material and simplify hard concepts to us very well. recommend!
Professor Cottone is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. She made Chemistry as fun as it could be. You definitely have to try to do well in this class. Your group mates can either be of great benefit or burden to you. Make sure you study the material, otherwise things could get dicey. Do these things and you will succeed. FREEDOM!
You have to study minimum an hour everyday to get an A. She gives many hand out and the exams exactly from them. Otherwise she is not bad teacher
Knows her material very well and so should you. When I prepared I did well, when I skimmed my results reflected that. Organic Chemistry is one of the hardest classes anyone can take with any teacher. You have to put in a great amount of time to do well, I work fulltime (NO BUENO), I got what I put into the subject. Cottone tells you what to study.
She was very sarcastic and it rubbed me the wrong way. When you ask her questions sometimes she talks to you like youre stupid and gets frustrated. Takes as many points off exams as she can for insignificant things even if answer is correct. She needs to fix her attitude. Exams arent that hard if you study though.
gr8 teacher 4 CHE1510 summer! up 2U if u do ur owl,ask Q's, participate in urgroup. If uwant 2 do more than that prep b4 lab, understand the material &put in extra study time. picky grader and our final grades b4 finals were wrong she valued our midterm for 40% rather than 20. I thought i had C in the class when i truly had a b-.
As a post-bachelors student with six years of undergrad class experience, I can confidently say that Mrs Cottone is one of the best professors I have ever had. This class is going to require work on your part, regardless of where and how you take it. But you will be hard pressed to find a teacher that sets you up for success better than she does.
Cottone's passion and love for chemistry makes her class so enjoyable. She clearly explains the concepts. WARNING! This class is taught in a flipped active learning style. Lecture is provided as videos for homework and the practice is done in class. There is a lot of group work and discussion in class. I was skeptical but ended up enjoying.
AVOID unless youre a chemist, do not take this class. All the negative comments about this teacher are true. I doubted just as some may doubt this, I listened to the positive reviews and was not prepared for the worst professor I have ever taken. Speaks to you like your a dog, literally said your basically teaching yourself AVOID!
Flipped class, lectures are videos you have to watch on your own. HW done in class with group. OWL assignments as exam prep, do them and do them at least 3 days b4 due date bc it takes forever and it's a lot. Exams are fine if you study& she gives you ws with exam Q, do them. PRACTICE that's the only way to do good. Lab is ok just follow directions
Class can be extremely fun and labs are somewhat tedious but enjoyable. Be sure to start the online homework early!!! Always show up for lab and turn them in to the best of your ability. Get help if you need it, SI sessions can be so helpful! ASK QUESTIONS! This Prof is literally the nicest person ever!!!!
She has this new strategy of teaching. She lectures for 10 total minutes throughout the class period and the rest of the time you are put in assigned groups to work on a workbook. If you take her, take her for orgo 2 because orgo 2 at a university start at a later chapter. Very slow paced course. Take another teacher. Shes nice, but who cares!
Condescending sarcasm, overcomplicates lectures to a fault, and severely lacks receptiveness to whether the students actually know whats going on.
Flipped classroom so be prepared to watch video lectures and do problems in the classroom. Shes passionate, but a shell make u work for ur grade. Labs are hard but enjoyable.
She relates to students who have kids but she can be sarcastic/rude. We moved online(COVID) and I felt she was more accommodating than in the class room. She marks you down for minor errors, which is frustrating. I was glad we didnt end up taking the Final(ACS) like she normally does. I love the video lectures but with my group nobody was helpful.
We're no strangers to love You know the rules and so do I A full commitment's what I'm thinking of You wouldn't get this from any other guy I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling Gotta make you understand Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonn
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER IF YOU HAVE ISSUES LEARNING IN AN ONLINE FORMAT. Homework difficulty far exceeds the scope of what she teaches you, emailing her was a fruitless effort. You learn through youtube videos, which are about 10 minutes a piece and she only usually posts like 3 of them. By far the worst prof Ive ever taken, you've been warned
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She is single handedly the ABSOLUTE WORST professor I have ever taken. She ignores emails or responds super late. You teach yourself everything. Homework is WAY harder than her 10 minute lecture video examples. She basically doesn't teach anything. Expect to spend 20+ hours on this class a week
Simply put, this professor lacks the ability to feel sympathy and doesnt teach all of the given materials. Unless youre a chemist youll have a hard time passing this class. If you take this professor expect to teach yourself 85% of the class. Wouldnt recommend :/
This is by far the worst chemistry instructor I've ever had. You spend time watching Youtube lectures just for the homework to be completely different. She halfway does lectures meaning she will give you an example on the lecture but will not solve it. Her lecture explains about 20% of the actual chapter so good luck teaching learning the rest.
worst teacher ever . if you dont have chegg please dont take her .
Honestly? Her lectures cover half, at most, of what you need to know in each chapter. The homework is completely different and theres lots of it. Dont take her unless you have chegg to help you through the homework. She answers emails regularly and is willing to help, but I shouldnt have to email her constantly because her lectures were unhelpful
I am a slow learner, and I have to say that I love her video lectures because I can always go back to understand it better. She responds to my emails/questions fast. Make a calendar for the exams and due dates to help. There is no extra credit for this class. Chem is hard in general so you really have to work for the grade. Don't miss any exams!!!!
She's a good prof, but expect a lot of studying.
Lectures are informative and always interesting due to her personality. She really tries to give students the best fair chance of passing her class, and tries to rectify and and all her mistakes with room to spare. Difficulty wasn't bad, but I would recommend doing some additional practice before the exams.
She is super nice and holds friday night live and a sessions throughout the week. she gives you a lot of help if you needed it. She takes a lot of time making sure you understand and she really cares. The exams and material is hard and tight in terms of time. No extra credit, exams are timed, lots of homework, like a lot.
the lectures and what's covered in class is nothing like the homework. The homework is SO HARD and nothing like the notes you spend hours copying from youtube lectures. You do the labs and notes and feel pretty ok because they're pretty easy but as soon as you do the homework you're completely lost. DO NOT TAKE ONLINE
One of the best teachers I have ever had! She breaks things down as simple as you need, making it a bit easier to understand. Genuinely wants to help you. I was so afraid of taking this course and because of her I throughly enjoyed learning the material. The book is there for support it wasnt exactly required but keep in mind it helps!
I'm an immigrant chemist with a Masters degree, taking courses for U.S. credit. Katelyn Cottone does an abysmal job with teaching. We have to "teach ourselves" during online school. We were bombarded by endless amounts of online coursework, along with the tests resembling nothing of what was taught. Save your money, take someone other than her.
Humiliates students in front of the class. Doesn't teach and expects students to know all of the material. Beware. . . .charges an extra $89 for her textbook program. Not worth the money for the book, because what's covered in the textbook has no resembelence of what is on the exams. This was the hardest B grade I have had to work to earn.
She would fit in well with Oakland University or Wayne State chemistry departments as she is just as significantly worse as the professors from those schools. She had a sarcastic kind of attitude when I would ask her questions. She also would make you do unnecessary warmups in class when they were never helpful. Exams were hard, dont take her!
She's an okay professor. Would only be available for office hours on zoom for 1 hour a week which I feel isn't enough for an online orgo 2 class. She's a really nice person but I feel like the examples she uses in class are really easy and then she gives us really hard hw problems. Tests are exactly like the hw though so that kind of helps.
Cottone is one of the best chemistry profs I have had. Yes, her class was difficult, but she wants you to succeed. She came at our semester with a new approach and it was great. Read the book, do the practice probs, & do the homework and you'll be fine! I took this class after graduating with a bachelors and not being in college for 4 years. study!
This class is HARD regardless. But Cottone really set us up for success. The only reason i really struggled is because this semester, Orgo 2 was online... Compared to orgo 1 where we we in class and had an SI instructor to help tutor us after class. I think if we had that option for orgo 2 it would've been even better. Overall, Cottone was great.
Stay away please!!!! This professor doesnt have any sense of mercy and is very tough with teaching like we are students that we are trying to learn so why are you making it hard for us to learn. Just because you are a professor It doesnt mean anything. I hate those kind of people that dont have mercy in their heart. She is the absolute worst.
I wouldn't recommend taking this class if you haven't taken Orgo before. This was a repeat for me, I took Orgo ~10 years ago, and found I had to teach myself b/c the lectures weren't great. If you work full-time, this class can be difficult, April was very challenging because we had 2 exams, 1 final and a lot of homework assignments due.
Mrs. Cottone was honestly not that bad. The coursework was difficult and time consuming, but she was a fair grader and her lecture videos were helpful. Every week there is reading, homework, and a lab. There are 4 online exams and an in-person final (which was easier than the exams). She drops the lowest homework and lab score; no extra credit.
This professor doesn't have good lectures, if you want to pass the class my recommendation is to hire a tutor or someone who can help you or even prepare to read and memorize the material. I was able to get lectures from youtube and i understood lecture super fast! Tough on grades, NO MERCY AT ALL even if you have medical issues or more.
Not consistent. Unempathetic. Quiz every week with honorlock. Had to teach everything myself.
This professor is awful. Teaches nothing, expects you to learn from her horrible youtube videos where she says a bunch of rubbish. No clear expectations from her students. Posts a midterm review hours before the exam. Doesn't even give clear examples of what students should see on exams. Horrible. Just don't waste your time or money.
Professor Cottone is an amazing professor, I don't really understand why she has so many bad reviews. I would say her teaching strength lies in organic chem, but if you are struggling in either class with her lectures or homework she picks really good textbooks that clear up any confusion. Take her if you need any chem requirements!
I loved her! I had a pretty good understanding of gen chem before the class, so I felt everything was pretty easy, but her videos were SO clear they helped me grasp many concepts I had been unable to understand in the past. She's super nice, just be sure to attend lab, come prepared, dress for lab, and be on time.
Mrs. Cottone is a great professor. Her videos and examples were the exams but the variables are changed. Assignments in Achieve are harder than the exams. No group works. She does not give the same energy to other students. No extra credit. I also do not like the use of a standardized exam by the ACS.
I took Mrs cottone every chem class and Im her SI for almost two years now. most students dont understand that Chem isnt easy it requires practice using all resources to succeed and it has nothing to do with the teacher. She is supportive if you show her you work hard. She breaks every concept to make it easier on students. SHES THE BEST!
She is the worse teacher ever. She thing there is no life except her chemistry. Exams are hard and always confused about due dates. Very hard to get a response when you send her an email. Never recommend taking her to anyone. Please avoid her if possible.
Cottone is a horrible professor. She has never cared about students' success in class. The lectures are disgusting, and they did not explain almost anything. Grading standards are too high, but she herself does not reach them too.
If she does not like youuu she will be on you and makes you do very bad. Save you money and do not take her. Just an advise for you.
her class was one of the best I had, chemistry is difficult but she makes it enjoyable. I felt like grade was mostly from hw assignments; so if you do the hw correctly your grades will be good :).
Professor does not care about students. Teaches like we already know the criteria. Not one email regarding checking in on how we are doing. Assigns excess amounts of lecture videos. Horrible
Professor Cottone was a great teacher; however, I do not like how heavy the weighted percentages of her two midterms and one final are in your total grades. I do not like this setup because of how limited the scope of your grades is. I wish she divided the course into four exams so it would have been easier to break down the chapters.
She is absolutely one of the worst and rudest professors I ever had the displeasure of taking. Luckily, I was able to drop her class because I was just transferring my credit to a university after summer break. To be succinct she was unhelpful, unkind to students, and seems to get joy from taking points from students for extremely minute reasons.
There are 4 tests in this class, all are very difficult and worded in ways to confuse you and you are recorded and your computer screen and surroundings monitored while taking the tests. One of these difficult tests will be days before your final exam, and she likely won't return your labs and other grades back in time so... good luck.... RUN.
Despite the lecture portion of the course being online, prof. Cottone made a clear effort to demystify complex topics with in-person review and after-lab practice. Labs are in-person, but the lowest few lab grades are dropped. She makes it clear what content will and will not be on a test, and what equations will be given. The final exam is the ACS
Cottone was great and very kind. You have to really do the work and make sure you understand the material. She has a bit stricter grading policies but nothing unmanageable. She even dropped lowest lab and hw grade. If youre taking a higher level course I would say you need to take her in person because online lectures are a bit hard to follow.
I was scared of Cottone from other reviews, but was actually beyond happy with her! Yes, this class is lecture heavy, but all exam material comes directly from her videos (she will verbatim say "this is an exam question"). If you watch start to finish, you will pass! Homework was good practice & labs are EASY if you study. Good luck! I got an A-.
Prof. Cottone is one the best professors I've ever had. You watch lectures at home, and do problems to reinforce the material in class. Exams are straight forward, lots of opportunity for partial credit. Lab isn't difficult. This isn't one of those weeder stem class. but like any stem class, if you want that A, u got to put in the work.
HARSH GRADER!!! NO PRACTICE EXAM BEFORE THE FINAL SO LEARN AND STUDY EVERYTHING. YOU'LL BASICALLY HAVE TO TEACH YOURSELF EVERYTHING. IF YOU'RE IN PERSON YOU'LL PASS ON THE LABS IF YOU'RE ONLINE SHES GONNA GRADE HARDER. IF YOU DON'T PASS THE FINAL EXAM YOU FAIL THE CLASS, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!
Cottone's class is tough but engaging. Lecture videos are key for exam prep. Stay on top of assignments and use resources like Unstuckstudy to ace this course. It's a challenge, but doable with dedication.
One of the best professors I've had! Chemistry has always been a tricky subject for me but I passed with flying colors in her class. Her lectures are relevant and funny. Lots of material to learn but she makes it interesting
I took her chemistry class online and it was great to be honest. I did get a B+ but it's my fault for not studying enough for the final. I'm not sure why she has so many dislikes but I recommend taking her class online. She was very helpful and friendly when I would email her for help. She's not available on weekends tho but that's normal imo
I took the online class and felt the lecture videos were very helpful as long as you watched everything. I printed out the notes to fill in while watching and used them for studying. I am now taking chem 1 and have so many things memorized from this class, and although it is not necessary for my current class, it will be great for future classes!
By far one of the best profs I've ever had. She made me acctually enjoy coming to class and learning. You can tell how passionate she is and how much she cares about her students. It's chem so obviously it's difficult but if you study hard you'll do fine. She's a great prof to take if you're bad at math, she goes through everything very thoroughly.
This professor is one of the best I have had because of her professionalism and kindness. Her teaching methods make learning so much easier and her notes make studying something to not be afraid of. This professor cares about her students and making sure that they pass the class and actually understand the information in the course.
Not an understanding teacher when it comes to important things. Some material definitely needed to be presented better. Exams are a huge part of the grade especially the ACS exam which we didn't get much time to study for. Not a horrible teacher but she could improve in a lot of ways. Takes some things way too seriously that affects your grade.
I was terrified of taking a chemistry course but she honestly taught so well. Try to take her online with testing course, if you take notes during the lecture and do the work you shouldn't get under a B+. After the first exam and I didn't get under a B+ on an exam. Also gives nice study guides. If you need a chem course take it with her.
Don't take her. I have always done well in chemistry courses until this one. She puts stuff on exams that she never taught, she's unorganized. I put in many hours studying and still receive bad grades. Homework also hardly has to do with lectures. Take someone else if possible!
