BORING, Takes atendence, yet a VERY easy class to get an A or B in. Gives you test questions before hand.
Dr. Fernstrom's class isnt that bad. You can easily get an A, attendance policy and some reaction papers. the class can be kind of dry but she is cool and will help you if ya need it

Boring lectures, but easy A or B Laughs goofy. Very nerdy and into anthro. sweats a lot. class never lets out early Gives you 7 questions before the midterm and final and the tests are 4/7 questions. Have to read 2 novels write papers. Watch a movie and write paper. Dont have to do the readings
EASY A! She is the easiest grader. Don't sweat the books or movie you have to write about, you dont really have to do read them. Easy quizes and tests. Just go to class and you will get an A.
great class. She is very nice and cracks me up, when she starts dancing when a cell phone goes off. haha. shes a very nice grader too :)
Easiness depends on what you do for the exam. Gives questions list before the test. However, class is so boring. Attendance policy, 2 major readings, several easy assignments. Go to class and take notes. You'll be fine.

Like listening to Ben Stein go "Bueller...Bueller...Bueller", but still a good class. There's no lack of enthusiasm here, this lady LOVES bones. Decent assignments, a good grader, and good teacher overall. Recommended if you need an anthro to fill out a requirement.

This class was so boring. I would honestly compare this class to torture. ONLY TAKE THIS CLASS if: you like listening to old ladies ramble about annoying stuff that you will never need to know; or if you like blotting out the old lady in the background and day dreaming. attendance sucks... don't take it
Boring class but pretty easy. 2 books to read but you can skim through them and be okay. only 2 or 3 easy papers. she isn't a tough grader just pay attention in class

While she is nice, the class is sooo boring. I found it impossible to pay attention to anything, never cracked the book or wrote a note and got an A, but be prepared to fall asleep!

Aside from her stunning looks being a distraction. She speaks with a monotone voice making class seem longer than it is. However tests and quizzes are easy and is an easy A class if you just show up and take some intrest.

By far the WORST teacher. besides the subject and the class being so boring she makes it even worse by lecturing off a piece of paper and attendance is mandatory even when you could learn more from the textbook the best part is she thinks you actually care...DO NOT TAKE
She is really nice, and the class is rather easy. The fact that it is boring isn't really an issue if you are like me, and can doodle for hours and be content. (see the wall in the classroom I had her in). Take her!
She knows her material, and she teaches very well. However, she gave more assignments in class than I've been expected to complete in honors courses and has zero empathy for the most legitimate of excuses. She is not friendly and doesn't appreciate students who are genuinely interested in the subject. She graded my stellar papers very badly.
She pretty much have me perfects on every paper I wrote, but im an English major so maybe I just write better then most people in a 200 level class. MUST GO TO CLASS! Will take doctors notes for normal class, hard with missing exams. Doesn?t seem very nice, but not so bad if you get to know her. A lot of work.
I had her last year.. she was rude and inconsiderate... my friend and I had the class together and one of her friends from high school died and she wasnt excused for the funeral.. that class was ridiculous and she was really unfair..
I really don't see what her physical apperance has to with her class. She is very nice and very easy. All her lectures are put on blackboard in power point presentations. She is obviously very passionate about the subject and really wants her students to like the subject too. I learned a lot. Its easy if you actually try
extremely boring class. would not recommend to take this class once a week for three hours. grades work fairly. sticks to the syllabus. attendance is a must however u are aloud to miss 2 classes without it affecting ur grade. 4 quizzes 3 papers midterm and final. not hard as long as u put some effort into it
Super Easy! I had her my first semester in 08- class was a breeze! A few easy papers - and quizzes are taken straight from notes and activities. I had to miss a class because I had to fly out to California - she was understanding and I ended up using that for one of the papers. Just write down what she says and you'll get an A.
2 tests (midterm and final)extremely hard--all multiple choice; but very tricky bc she provides 5 answers choices but they all say the EXACT same thing!!! 3 papers (easy grader, make sure u proofread bc she will take off points)one group project on car culture. dont buy the books no matter how much she tells u you need it; bc she provides the info
A very nice woman who is passionate about what she teaches. She lectures from power points the whole class, which gets kind of boring. But the class is easy enough, I missed plenty of classes and will probably end up with an A-. A couple writing assignments, 4 multiple choice tests, and a few exams with multiple choice and short answer/essay.
Rude to students, occasionally. Stutters, a lot! Very boring. Passionate teacher. Tricky quizzes, although she disagrees. I study yet fail. She isn't very clear when speaking. Everything taught from PowerPoint then put up on BlackBoard.
Absolutely not my favorite teacher. Her entire class is just going over terms. Barely any class discussion the entire semester. Her quizes are very tricky, she doesn't really make sure you do the reading but the reading had to be my favorite part of the class.
She is really. really. boring. and once she wore argyle knee socks with sneakers...It was my goal in class to make her smile. She's not mean, just intimidating. It won't be the end of the world if you have to take her, but try other options.

I took anthropology on line through HCC with this instructor. Absolutely awful!! Don't do it....5 confusing papers to write and she grades hard!! Quizzes are easy and the discussion questions are easy, but her papers are ridiculous. Plan to spend a lot of time reading really boring books and writing completely useless papers!!!
Lecture is extremely dry but the quizzes are easy as long as you actually take notes. There are 2 large papers, but they're not too difficult. Also, a group presentation which isn't too bad either. If you can get passed the boring lectures, this class is actually quite easy.
Professor Fernstrom is very nice and very good at teaching the material. You have 2 papers to do and she gives easy MC quizzes throughout the semester instead of constant tests which is great. I'd definitely recommend her.
She is nice to be sure, but hard to understand and even quite stupid at times. She will randomly get facts blatantly wrong, her questions are worded awkwardly and her assignments are more tedious than constructive. DO NOT GET THIS TEACHER
It's hard to find motivation to go to this class because she puts all the powerpoints online, and when you do go to class she just reads off them. There was one short paper and one longer paper, no homework, and a few in-class writings that weren't hard. She's a nice lady but expects way too much from an 100 level class. Never used the text book.
I can't say enough about how bad a teacher she is. All her material is mediocre and redundant. She gets facts wrong, she is inconsistent and dry. Her lectures are boring. Her class teaches you no life skills what so ever
Ehh. Her lectures are mandatory, but boring. I just did other homework during them, so it wasn't a total waste. If you read the PPTs before a quiz or test, you'll get an A. Even the final project is a breeze. If you want an easy, though boring A, take this class. Also, cover your mouth when you yawn.
Class was kinda dry but was extremely easy so I didn't mind. I never read the textbook. Doesn't like it when you yawn in class. We had some in class writings and 2 papers, nothing to hard. She's occasionally funny but comes off as stoic most of the time. Still, she's a nice lady and it was an easy 101 course.
Fernstrom is a very mild toned professor. She does not appreciate yawing with your mouth open or letting the door slam shut behind you if you get up to use the bathroom because its "distracting to others". Her tests are all 75 questions on scantron and multiple choice with essay, group projects and random in class work
Fernstrom isn't the most jovial professor, however she is clear and helpful. Always willing to answer questions and re-explain things. Offers study guides and charts to help with exams. Pay attention to the powerpoints and study before a quiz or exam and you'll do well. Projects and papers aren't difficult. Attendance was mandatory and counts.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Don't believe what "GradeToday" says, this is the most boring, pointless, and hard-to-follow class I have ever taken. 4 unexcused absences allowed, but she is so harsh and only gives good grades to the try-hard art majors who have a passion for it. Nonwestern Art is Totem Poles and bowls, it's boring and stupid and sucks.
Slow with grading, finals are coming up and she hasn't graded half the work turned in. Otherwise an easy class to take if you need the credits.
Professor Fernstrom wasn't a bad professor, but pretty forgettable too. Every class is a lecture with the occasional documentary thrown in. There was definitely material that made me look at some things differently. Make sure you keep up with the readings, it's extremely difficult to catch up on the reading right before a test.

Very boring, takes multiple classes to get through a powerpoint that could've easily been covered in one. Doesn't make sure you do the readings but questions about them are on the tests. Easy grader though, I got A's on all the papers we wrote.

Took this class over the summer, so I knew it would be fast paced but it was anything but. The Professor just read things off PP slides and showed videos. Class dragged on and on as her presentation style is VERY DRY with no personality. Few quizzes, a midterm, a final, with in class assignments and 2 papers. Not a hard class, but so very boring.
She does indeed dislike when you yawn without covering your mouth and talking while she does, but that's just respect. She is open if you put in the work and do what is expected. Most of her lectures are pretty boring though. She requires evidence of your absence if you need to be excused from a class. Unfortunately, no in-class engagement.
This professor is the most bitter human Ive ever met. She will literally freak out at you in front of the whole class over the smallest things. She made it a rule that you cant yawn in her class. If you are even 3 minutes late she will not accept you on the attendance that day even if you sat through the rest of the hour and a half long class AVOID
The powerpoint and textbook readings are necessary for the 2 exams and the class is very focused on the learning goals. She was always accessible for questions and the weekly homework of making 2 posts was pretty easy. There are a few movie assignments, but other than that each week I was only spending about a hour or two on this course.
VERY knowledgable on the subject matter and gives great insight into the topics. Only a few, easy in-class assignments and an essay.
I had this professor monday and wednesdays at 11am, and I have never been more bored. She never ever stops lecturing, while everyone in the class is either online shopping or doing other assignments for different classes. If you are interesting in art, take this class, but be ready to be bored.
Literally so rude. Shes disrespectful to students and colleagues. She also doesnt use her time wisely. We spend most of class recapping the previous class or listening to her tangents. Class is not that hard but is SO BORING. I love art history but she doesnt know how to teach it well. She should stick to the anthropology department.
This class is the definition of BORING, she reads verbatim off her power points and she is very hard to follow. The class overall is easy with only a few assignments(2 papers, Group Presentation), couple quiz's and your standard midterm and final. and I did the bare minimum and still got a B. But you will fall asleep in this course.
I had her for a Tsem class (american murals). She would go on and on and most of the time not make any sense. When it came to grading; the semester's almost over for me and she still hasn't graded my minterm paper. I have no idea what my grade is for this class. The instructions for the papers make no sense at all and impossible. I have more to say
Insanely unorganized. Does not teach the material, goes off on her own unrelated tangents. Writing assignments and tests are 100% opinion based but she grades you on how much you agree with her own opinion, nothing to do with the actual class info. You will not learn anything. It's a 101 class and a useless professor who treats it like a 400 level.
Isn't awful. She's very passionate about history and art but can be extremely boring. hard to stay awake. Heaven forbid you yawn in her class, she'll stop the whole class. You have weekly readings but I personally did not read 1 and got an A, essays are easy if your pay attention. no feedback. She tries to make jokes but they're really bad.

Quite literally the worst professor in the sociology/anthropology department. She relies on Blackboard but does not understand how to use it. Ask a question - be prepared to be even more confused and slightly offended. She does not follow the syllabus in regard to what will be taught in class.
This is one of the most boring professors I have ever had, she starts a sentence at the beginning of class and doesn't stop talking until the end. If you ask a question, she doesn't answer it and is very rude. Need to study for the midterm and final or you will not pass. Would always fall a sleep during her class, take someone else if possible.

The class is easy, however, she talks a lot. She takes attendance but I don't think it counts for anything. If you want to pass, you must complete all the work. The course includes a heavy workload with essays and discussion posts. Overall, you should only take if you are good at writing.
Genuinely one of the most boring professors I've ever had. Literally most of the class showed up only so they wouldn't fail. If you HAVE to take her, make sure to not ask too many questions or she'll get annoyed. Also, CHECK THE DISCUSSION BOARDS DAILY! Often she won't make an announcement online, so you won't have a way of knowing. Good luck!
DO NOT let the door close on its own, she will yell at you for "slamming" it. She only lectures, did not involve students. I didnt read the sweetgrass book at all, usually used this to do other work or nap. Also she doesnt know the correct abbreviations for the states but likes to get defensive when anything is said so no one corrected her. easy A
Will call you out if you yawn in class because it can ‘spread germs.’ Very disrespectful and views accommodations as an inconvenience. Terrible at responding to emails and will get mad if you ask her any questions and will add snarky comments to you in front of the whole class. Many will sleep through her classes and still pass. This professor is very easy; easy grader, easy class. Now, I will say that the class can be a bit boring because all she does is talk from when the class starts to when it ends and the class is non-interactive. The papers are easy and the discussion prompts are easy. If you're looking for an easy A, take her!
I do not recommend professor Fernstrom or ARTH 108. The class was extremely boring and lecture-heavy. A mid-term and a final basically decided your entire grade. Yes, it was easy as a lot of the material is subjective but not fun. Not to mention if you ask a question you have a high chance of being berated in front of the class.
Had her during the pandemic, and loved it. Opened my eyes to different cultures and could do the class at my own pace.
DO NOT TAKE! Had 2/8 grades in by the time it was finals week. She has no idea how to do anything quickly and gives the most boring lectures. The material has so much potential to be interesting but she makes it unbearable! Embarrasses students in front of the entire class for little things (yawning). The lectures were quite boring. If you bring a snack to class, like a bag of chips, she'll make you tear the bag all the way. She was quite rude in class a few times. I will say that if you need this as a core, definitely easier than most. She lets you use notes on every test; only problem was the papers, she doesn't have clear grading criteria .
Decent professor, rude and stuck-up human being. Her class is boring but not difficult if you do the work and she's fairly straightforward with her assignments. You need to attend class otherwise points are taken off every week. She'll put a student on the spot for the littlest things and doesn't want you to leave early for any reason.
She made us do a final presentation, final paper, AND a final exam. Like bruh just pick one. She also released the exam before the final exam period, made us turn it in online AND in person, making us come all the way to campus just to hand in a hard copy.
I don't really get the bad reviews. The class is easy and straightforward. Yea, she'll call students out, but they're usually in the wrong. You do have to show up though, it's roughly 25% of your grade. Only thing I didn't really like was that there is a final PPT, paper, and exam. Honestly, take this class if you need it. It's really not that bad.
Nice professor, a lot of people may find her boring but honestly the class was not too difficult. Just make sure to participate, cover your mouth when if you yawn in class, and do not leave early without her permission. That's really it!

If you taking this its a free A, she would yap the whole time and me and other students would just watch shows on our computers. Its no work like its just 4 easy discussions and 3 essays throughout the whole semester like you can take this class and take literal 0 notes pass with an A and also do your other classes work in here.

As a person I can see why some people would want another professor. But this class is not hard at all. I got a B but could has easily gotten an A if I tried even the slightest.
Honestly wish I didn't take this class. I had a 91% in bio and 79% in this class that later became a B but still.... Lecture heavy & she's annoying. Just make sure you're on time for attendance (cause she won't mark you "here" any second after) and do the few assignments that are due. I used to just watch netflix/tiktok tbh, hella boring
Professor Fernstrom is not bad but I recommend you not to take her! Her lectures are very long so be prepared for her to talk during the whole class. She barely grades work and waits until the last minute. Make sure you cover your mouth when you yawn because she will call you out. Attendance is also mandatory and a part of your grade!!
Though I enjoyed Professor Fernstroms class, she does have a bad attitude sometimes and can be sarcastic. She also hates when people yawn in class. However, this is an easy A class as long as you follow instructions and do the work. Only 4 discussions, 1st paper, annotated bibliography, final paper, and final exam. Attendance is MANDATORY & graded!
Fernstrom's class is an easy A if you do the work, but her lectures can be quite dull. Attendance is mandatory, and she's quick to embarrass students. Still, unstructured study tools like Unstuck ai helped me prep for the essays and discussions.

Professor Fernstrom is not a good choice to take. Lectures every single class, attendance is mandatory (with only 2 unexcused absences), and are just rants of her yapping. None of the papers are related to the topics she talks about, and only are brought up again on the final (which is lowkey misleading). Don't take her if you don't have to.
She is just an ok professor. If you scroll on your phone the entire time and complete the work asked, you'll get an easy A. 3 papers during the whole class, which include your midterm and final, and a bit of tedious work that takes 10 minutes on average. However, she is beyond dull and requires attendance. Wouldn't take again, but she is easy.
It's an easy A if you're willing to put up with how rude she is to students and how boring the class is. It's very lecture heavy. As for the rudeness, if you shut the door too loud she will stop class and say something to you. Lots of things in that vein
