Unorganized, no structure, inconsistent, slow to respond to email, messy blackboard, non interactive, uninvolved; lazy. Doesn't update syllabus, grade board, and assignments on time. Doesn't keep with dates and meetings. Passed average, but going to repeat for the grade I know I deserve with competent instructor. Do only if last absolute option.

I recommend not take this professor. She's unprofessional and lazy. I would recommend you take Dr. Gingo at Preston Ridge campus if you're looking for a composition professor who interacts, engages and teaches.

This professor rarely helped me with anything! Her instructions were very unclear and she was never around to help like she said she was! I failed thanks to her poor instructions on the exam! NEVER AGAIN

I hope you all take this advice seriously. Balch is unhelpful, lazy, disorganized and child-like. I took her 8 week course online and received the same grade on every assignment-showing her lack of effort to grade my papers. At the end of the sem. I was freaking out & this professor literally refused to see me in her office hours such a joke.

I have NEVER had a professor as terrible as professor Katherine Belch. Her grading criteria amounted to whatever arbitrary number that popped up on her wheel of stupidity. Her instructions and criteria really changed randomly, making it nearly impossible to please her. She also had mandatory ONE MINUTE meetings despite it being an ONLINE class. Eww

Just finished American lit with her. Took it for three hours once a week. She will ramble on and on for an hour and a half with her pointless stories when you could have been done with class already. She grades on a whim and isn't clear at all. Just a terrible all around experience. Do yourself a favor and take this with a different professor

if you are international do not take her classes.

So much work, so little time. Her material isn't difficult, its just that she gives us three days to write a whole entire paper, and then some. No joke. Maybe it's because I am taking her online course, but I would advise to be prepared or to find another professor who understands that a student has more than one class.

She doesnt use any of class time to let her students do the assignments. Instead, she feels the need to talk about random nonsense during class and then leave any assignments as homework for the weekend (this can be up to 5 assignments). If she isnt fond of a student she will never give them a 100 on anything, a 95 w/o reasoning is the highest.

Professor Balch, she is one of the worst professors i have had she is a bad grader doesn't give the reasons why you got the grade or how to improve your writing skills she is not helpful or nice at all, save you $$ with this teacher.

terrible, she is not clear on any of her assignments and spends the majority of class talking about nonsense and her personal life stories. Extremely obnoxious and needs attentions from everyone, if you wanna improve in english or get a passing decent grade don't waste your money and take her.

worst professor I have ever had. do NOT take her class whatever you do. She needs attention from everyone. Grades assignments and gives "feedback" which is just the assignment copy and pasted back to you. If you do not understand instruction and email her for help, she either paste the assignment again or "go look at instruction".disrespectful.

Worst professor ever. She in inconsiderate and disrespectful to her students needs. I personally get scared to email her because I know her response will be condescending and make me feel stupid. When you ask questions about assignments (bc instructions make no sense) she just copies and pastes prompt again. Her class is a waste of time and money

She comes off as a good prof but in reality she is HORRIBLE and very disrespectful. She gives way too much of a workload and will not help you what so ever. If you're planning on taking her make sure you don't make ANY mistakes or else you're screwed because she won't help you what so ever. Also she teaches students like they're in kindergarten.

She is the worst teacher ever. She doesnt provide good feedback to improve the tons of writing you have to do. She is pretty harsh on grading for example she gave me a 68 on one of my essays because she said it looked like 795 words and I didnt indent my paragraphs but my document on the essay said I had 805 words.

she was the MEANEST prof ever I hated her she was unkind and was bothered by the simplicity of just answer questions if you have her DROP the class youll hate her just as much as i did

Professor seems fine at first but gives an unreasonable amount of work. Also, when you try to communicate through email, she gives condescending responses and is hard to work with regarding office hours. She has no clear rubric and deducts points from papers without clear explanation. Hardly gives any feedback on papers unless you ask for it.

Let me just say she is VERY different in class then she is over canvas or email. She constantly gave very confusing and vague instructions for papers and if try to email her she always gives you condescending response and is literally no help. On papers she gives little to no feedback, but she does grade easily mainly off of having correct format.

Dr. Balch is one of the rudest and most disrespectful profs I've ever had. SOO much writing not appropriate at all for this level course. Vague instructions, no rubrics, grades extremely hard. The class averages were usually in the 60's. When emailing her questions, she is dismissive and not helpful. Class time is wasted often. Find another prof!!!

DONT TAKE HER!!! She made me so upset this whole semester.She overworks you for no reason.She does not care about your mental health at all.None of her lectures help.

I had Professor Balch last year for zero hour, she acted nice at first, but she was so rude and disrespectful. Be ready to make no mistakes or you'll most likely fail the assignment. She grades mostly off of the structure. If you know you're going to have her, drop out!

She never stops talking. She gave us 5 papers and tons of homework. She grades based on how you format your papers, and not on how you actually write the paper. You get the same topic for every essay you write in her class.

She is one of the worst teachers I've had. At this point, I don't go to her class to learn, she just blabbers and keeps talking about her personal life and I have gained nothing from her class. She is EXTREMELY unprofessional. She is so loud, and she just cant read the room. PLEASE DROP HER CLASS ASAP. You will be in regret for the rest of the time

Unforgiving, takes points off without explanation

She doesn't give enough instruction to do assignments, is always loud and obnoxious, and is rude when sending comments and emails. She gave me a 0 in the final exams for "not following instructions," which wasn't even put on the instructions. She doesn't care and is way too strict. She dropped my grade from 94 to 64 without good reason.

Her teaching style is to talk about herself. Google became my best friend in trying to understand the type of papers she was expecting. Zero flexibility, gives zero grace. I highly recommend you not take her class. Feedback is only useful if you actually are provide some content.

I have never hated a person so much until this class

SO loud for no reason at 7 in the morning like literally screaming and stomping around the classroom. Also so rude, if you ask her a question she will give you a snotty response. Grades only off of formatting which can be nice sometimes but if you make a mistake she is extremely unforgiving. She fails people for no reason, get out if you have her.

This Professor does not care about any of her students. She does not sympathize with anything you are going through. If you miss something, too bad, even if you have a reason for missing it. She grades very hard and will fail you. I had to write three 5 page essays, an 8 page essay, plus more and a final where you had to write 2 essays in 2 hours.

She never gives any information on assignments online. Don't expect a rubric for anything, and the only information she gives u is in class so if you have an emergencies well then you'll probably fail that paper that week. Had a 4 page essay every week. Class is just draining and the teacher is draining too, very odd lady and doesn't care.

Lacked structure

I would rather lay down on train tracks and wait for my end then take this class again. She was not lenient when I wasn't familiar with Word and didn't know how to save it properly and gave me a zero when I submitted a link with an explanation. She just replied with a paragraph from her syllabus rather than telling me how to actually submit it.
