The class is fairly easy as long as you keep up with the reading. I liked her a lot, we discussed interesting topics. She is very nice and is always willing to help you if you are struggling.

very intelligent professor and always willing to help!!

One of the few professors I didn't like at Vandy. She sounds like Doctor Evil!
She is such a sweet person and very willing to help, as long as you put effort forth and ask for help when you need it she will like you and the class will be easy
Class is pretty easy and fun. Participate in discussion and keep up with readings. She is understanding of circumstances/situations. Go to office hours for guidance on papers and she is very helpful. If you follow her suggestions, she is likely to grade higher.
Very helpful, very smart, very prepared. She was always willing to help out. Great Prof. She had all the guys talking about her too--very hot!!!!!
First, she is not hot. Second, the class is a waste of time, you'll come out better never going and just reading the book. The class is boring, she is boring. She hated to be wrong about anything too. I don't think that she is a smart professor at all. Whatever you do, DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE!!!!!!
absolutely the worst
Informative lectures, cares about students. Not always the best lecturer, but she knows here stuff. She is well worth taking and nice to look at too!
the worst teacher ever. She sucks, her notes suck, class is a waste of time
HORRIBLE TEACHER! SHE SUCKS! SHE MISLEADS STUDENTS ON THINGS TO STUDY FOR ON THE EXAM THEN PUTS TOTALLY DIFFERENT MATERIAL. SHE NEEDS TO BE FIRED FROM USC. DUMB LIBERAL!
very hard, very unclear about EVERYTHING, especially the exams, very boring, all notes are copied & pasted from book, not helpful, never returns e-mails, puts everything off on her TAs who weren't helpful either, makes intnl. relations very uninteresting, NEVER NEVER NEVER take a class with her.
This woman has lost her mind. She is hands down the worst teacher i have ever had. She thinks she knows everything. She sucks at life. DO NOT TAKE HER! If you read this and take her anyway, you will look back on this post and be like, man, that guy was right, she does suck to the hightest degree.
in all fairness, she's not as bad as everyone's saying. However,if your looking to take an easy poli sci class, this definitely isn't the one.She is a bit confusing and isn't really all that involved with her students;plus expects a lot of out of classtime work put in(lectures, movies, as well as hwork). Not impossible, but not an easy A.
She actually makes you put "placards" (with your name on it) in front of you. The class reminded me of high school, and I have been out of high school for four years. Avoid her at all cost. She is so very weird.
She knows her stuff but has a hard time communicating the information with the student! If you aren't interested in international relations dont take this class, but its not impossible. Ive learned a lot but poli is my minor so take this class with caution!
The class was sort of strange, it was kind of unstructured and unorganized. The exams were tough, and she's not very nice when you ask her questions. Despite all of this, its not THAT bad, but I wouldn't take it again.

this prof is get. best prof i've seen. these other students are lazy-asses. half the class did not come to class because attendance was not required. if you were there, she did everything to help you. those who opted out deserve their Fs,
Great professor. She knew and cared about the subject and my understanding, wanted to know my name and who I was, actually used name placards - don't they do that at the UN? I really learned a lot, can't wait for another class, and would recommend her to anyone.
Hard teacher, very imformative, but her tests are hard to study for...you write several papers. Her powerpoint presentations are not the best to study from.
by far the worst teacher i have ever had...talks like shes in her own world...do not take if at all possible
This woman is an idiot. I made the mistake of not heeding the warnings on here and I took her class. She's a total joke and teaches the class like a kindergarden teacher. Honestly, I have a much better understanding of Poli Sci than this woman. The class had no structure and she kinda guessed as she went. Don't take her!
Dr. Barbieri is possibly the worst teacher at USC. She completly lacks direction and the ability to stimulate students. I wish I could go back and take this class again with a different professor.
Very inspiring and equally as hot. I would like to take her class again, and again, and again. Like a jumping bean. So very hot.
After reading the reviews, I had to create an account and jump in. She's a really great professor. Yes, she's somewhat liberal, but that aside, she's a really great professor. She knows her stuff and is very willing to help students in and out of class. Pretty easy on the eyes, too, which helps.
I found her to be very unhelpful and not understanding at all. She seemed a little more concerned about helself and her research than about being a professor, my best guess is she is only at USC for a paycheck. Did not seem to care about students' success one way or the other. insensitive and uncaring and NOT HOT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!
great class. great prof.
Dr. Barbieri is a nice teacher, productive researcher and a charming lady. She explains course material crystal clear and is always happy to answer students' questions. She reads students' paper carefully w/ lots of useful comments. For those interested in globalization and international conflicts, her course is a must.
Dr Barbieri is a very smart woman. Her tests aren't easy but I've learned a lot in her class. She also has a group project that brings up your grade expontentially. I got mid 70s on both tests and still got a B in the class. I hardly read and you can def get away with not going to class once in a while.
Dr. Barbieri is a great professor. She does not tolerate slackers or people who refuse to learn the material. Exams and final essay are very straightforward. Class was interesting and participatory.
Excellent prof, clear, knowledgable. Worth taking just to look at, very hot and for a professor off the scale!
Ive taken her a couple of times. I think shes great. Such a hard working and smart person and shes pretty funny if you get her sense of humor. Her classes are not easy by any means but if youre here to learn then you should really enjoy them. Lots of reading but thats a norm in poli sci. I would def recommend her to people who are interested!
The whole point of taking this class was because I was interested in Globalization and it was my polisci emphasis. Not any more. The class is unorganized and boring, and her lectures are more about general polisci than Globalization! The text is practically the only thing in the whole class about Globalization! I wish I never took this class.
This globalization class was horrible. The readings were very long (30+ pages) for each book (there was 2 bks) for each class. Than she required us to read (40+ pages) issue briefs. The final exam review and study guide was not helpful-too much material. She is pretty cool about papers. I am a pretty good student with a high GPA, it was too much!
A great follow up to POLI 315; don't take it at the same time or you will be bored...same goes if you have had more intense globalization courses. Barbieri teaches much better courses...this one is just ok.
Dr. Barbieri seems like a really intelligent, nice woman; she's even got a dry sense of humor that is entertaining. But she's also *very* scattered in her lectures and for this class lecture material didn't really seem to correspond to exams -- she even said that she didn't like the textbooks she assigned so I'm not sure why we used them.
I felt like I'd covered the material in various other polisci classes, if only tangentially, but I really enjoyed having her. She's funny and somewhat endearingly awkward. She knows her stuff and has an interesting background. If you need a POLI for your major, I'd recommend taking her - it shouldn't be new material and she synthesizes it well.
This is a class where you come and you learn, if you're looking for some easy slack off course this is not one of the. Her lectures can be tedious at time but overall great professor, gets to the point, exams are basically things mentioned in class and do the mypoliscikit on time!!! Great class for PoliSci majors.
I enjoyed Dr. Barbieri's classes a lot! Class attendance is mandatory though-most of the test questions are from class. Make sure you are in class every day; don't miss any of her classes. Make sure you read the books that are required too, and it will reflect your grade.
Very smart, very kind, will learn a lot
Horrible Class. Very scattered lectures and LOTS of reading. Notes on powerpoints don't match what she is saying and she moves too fast. Favorite answer to questions is WE'VE ALREADY DISCUSSED THAT... YOU MUST NOT HAVE BEEN LISTENING. Very boring. Deliberately sets exams up to trick students. No computer use allowed. Would not recommend ever.
She is a horrible teacher and does not how to effectively help students learn. She will not answer any questions or provide any sort of help so you are on your own. Also she goes over things way to fast and will not go back for people who may not have gotten everything. She makes tests very confusing and gives you an unfair amount of material
Horrible. She is knowledgable but has no clue how to teach. She is also rude when you have a question or concern. That being said, the class is pretty easy if you study the book. Don't plan on learning anything in class though, and don't plan on her being even remotely helpful.
If you can avoid taking her I definitely would. She is not willing to help students at ALL. When students have VALID questions she refers them to her syllabus. Reviews for exams are vague and basically say "remember everything from the book and every word that came out of my mouth during lectures". I really love I.R. but this class is the worst!!
absolutely awful. i got a B+ in the class but this was in no part thanks to her. exams are tricky. asks questions on little details that have no reason to be on a test. the most unhelpful college professor I have ever had. AVOID HER
I disagree with the comments about her helpfulness. I failed my first test and started going to her office hours for help. I got an A in the course. She really cares about students learning the material.
The course was a lot of work, but the professor was always helpful. I visited her office hours regularly and she clarified things I did not understand. You can get a good grade if you do the work. She also discounts low first exams if you work to improve your grade. I went from a D to an A. She spent a lot of time responding to my email questions.
This is a hard class, but I learned a lot. The teacher is smart and very helpful. She always responds to email questions and helps during office hours. You have to attend and participate in class to get a good grade.
A lot of work, but i learned a lot.
This is an easy class if you attend regularly or get lecture notes from classmates when you skip class. I studied for all the exams in groups set up through Blackboard. Other students let me borrow their lecture notes for the classes I missed. That helped me. Most of the exams come directly from the lecture notes.
I wrote my first research paper for this class. It was an interesting experience. One of the reference librarians came to our class to show us resources to use to complete our assignment. I worked as part of a group of 5. We had the choice to work alone or with other students. It is easy to find partners.
Awesome class. Awesome Professor.
Loved the professor, but hated the readings.
You will learn a lot from Barbieri, but you have to attend class and take good notes. We had online assignments that included very short, but informative videos. We got to choose between 2 different grading options for our final grade. I really liked that.
The class is pretty easy if you go to class. The teacher is good. The topics are interesting.
The teacher was good, but I really liked the guest lecture and movies shown in class.
The power point lectures were clear and easy to follow. Most of the tests come from the lectures.
This was the second course i had with this instructor. I really learned a lot in both classes. Her lectures are clear and she is very helpful. There was some overlap between 315 and 433. You should take these classes.
Very knowledgeable about the topics covered and provided relevant insight into contemporary events.
The power point slides made the lectures easy to follow. The profesor was very organized.
The professor is really good. It is an easy class if you have had some basic Economics courses. Otherwise, I think it would be hard to take. I have an Econ and Finance background, so I found it pretty easy.
This class was a lot more difficult than her POLI 315 course. I took both at the same time and like the professor. I learned more in POLI 433. I am an Economics major and this course helped me understand things in my other classes.
The professor is great, but the class is way too large. The prof. includes a lot of student discussions and participation is part of the final grade. It was hard for me to speak out in a class of nearly 100 people.
I learned a lot in the class, but would have preferred a smaller section. There were about 90 students in my class.
I liked the online resources, especially the videos. They were much better than reading the book.
The instructor really pushes the students to do a lot of hard work. It took time to get used to the format of the class, but I eventually loved it. I learned a lot from the class.
I would not recommend taking taking this class with her. While she is smart she is extremely confusing and cannot communicate her thoughts clearly at all. She gets very sidetracked and will go off on tangents that have nothing to do with the subject matter we are discussing. Find a different professor!
Her exams require you to hand write long essays, so time management is key. She does offer multiple ways to come up with your final grade so you either have a lot of online assignments or only a few depending upon your decision. She's quick to respond to emails and help you.
She is my favorite professor. Visit her during office hours!
If you do the readings throughout the semester, the tests are very easy.
So she was a nice professor, but her TA was terrible. She gives you super long study guides for tests and questions come from it, but the TA graded hard (so depends who your TA is). Lectures every day and supposed to read, but she usually does not give pop quizzes. She takes attendance every couple classes so you can sometimes skip.
Do not take this course unless it is mandatory. Too heavy on readings and lack of synthesis of any meaning out of any of the readings. Best to avoid this class.
Really passionate, but dry lectures and she was incredibly awkward at times. She certainly knows her stuff, though, and has lots of unique experiences. Her tests are incredibly difficult as there is a ton of information that can be potentially covered in each one, and the study guides contain 100+ key terms and 20+ possible long essay prompts.
Dr. Barberi some how made it possible to take a very interesting subject and make it as dry as possible. I love school and learning but in her classes in genuinely could not keep my eyes open. She freaks out about students having electronics out, her lectures have no flow and make no sense. The best classes of the semester were given by the TA.
Lots of reading but I skimmed everything. She's mad annoying and goes on tangents during lectures. Content is ok... if you like listening to international relations. Definitely can't use phones or computers in class. Pop quizzes and exams are easy but she sometimes strays from the study guides. She thinks she's funny but she's not.
International relations is an interesting topics, but the lectures can be very dry. She can get sidetracked easily and you will lose a day worth of note taking. Exams are not hard if you studied the right thing, which can be difficult because the study guides have lots of topics.
Professor Barbieri is smart and passionate about political science. However, her lectures are disorganized and she goes on tangents leaving students wondering what the point is. Be prepared to take notes completely from the book and teach yourself everything. She's rude and hates most students but its ok we don't like her either
Professor Barbieri is a great professor. She does get a little off topic but that is only because she lets her students talk about topics that they are interested in. If you read, use the study guide, and inquisitive, you will make an A on all tests and all quizzes. I learned a lot and class was always interesting. Lots xtra cred!
Get ready to read because the textbook will be your real professor for this class. She gets off on such tangents and doesnt cover anything in class. Pop quizzes are out of 100 points for some reason. Overall such a boring professor with boring classes that dont cover half of the topics in the textbook.
Worst professor I've ever had, I would give her a 0 if I could. She goes on tangents during the lecture that has little to nothing to do with the topic. You can tell shes very intelligent but has no idea how to teach or get her ideas across. The lectures also make no sense so good luck teaching yourself from the books!!!!
one of the nicest poli sci professors at USC. She cares lots for her students and goes above and beyond for them if you are willing to put in work and go to her office hours! She does give readings but they are super easy! dont look too deep into the bad reviews, they simply didnt try or were too lazy to come to class.
dont pay attention to the bad reviews, they were the kids who did not participate or were willing to put in the hard work in this class. The class was super interesting and she was very accommodating and understanding, GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS!!! She may come off strong, but she is super nice and will do her best to help you out!
She's very nice and clearly very intelligent, but the class is pretty difficult to follow. Her lectures are not helpful for the tests, but are interesting. You'll pretty much be teaching yourself from the textbook and outside readings. Be careful not to fall behind, it's really difficult to catch up! Lots of reading
Hands down the hardest 101 class to take during Covid. The lectures are barely relevant to the test and if you don't read everything she assigns then you're gonna be very lost. Trying to catch up once you are behind is impossible because she doesn't accept late work or give open note tests.
The professor can come off a bit rough electronically, but she is a sweetheart behind the screen. Definitely do not hesitate to speak up about your needs! The class was sometimes overwhelming to be 100-leveled. Weekly module quizzes were SPECIFIC; biweekly discussion posts were a tossup. Midterm & Final make up 50% of final grade. Do not slack!
Dr. Barbieri really cares about how her students are doing and took the time to edit how the course was set up and give extra credit opportunities when students were struggling. She is very accommodating and wants to make sure each student understands the course material. This class was a lot of reading but easy to get an A in .
Online class is not her thing. She was so worried about a few cheating that she punished the class a whole not letting us use notes or even go back on questions, which if COVID was not a factor we would be able to flip back to questions on a physical test so that made no sense. The study guides are rarely mentioned in questions on the exam.
Professor Barbieri cares about her students a lot, but I did not enjoy her class in the slightest. The study guides for tests have nothing to do with the actual exam. There are many modules, and discussion posts. She also uses lockdown browser for every single exam. Directions are not clear, everyone in my class was confused as well.
She was not very helpful to her students during her online class. She seemed like she didn't really care about her students or actually teaching the material, just wanted us to fail. Would never take a class with her again.
She is nice and cares about her students, but online class is not for her. She is paranoid about cheating and made the exams so difficult. I learned a lot but did not think the exams were comprehensive of that. She did rearrange her grading scale to allow us to put more weight on our projects which was nice. Wait to take in person if you can!
Online teachingnot her thing. She is overly paranoid about cheating, unclear in her lectures, and the study guides had no relevant material to the exams. Her redeeming qualities are she is super passionate and she rearranged the grading criteria when she realized she did not adapt to online teaching. You will teach yourself this course online.
She is extremely smart, but I think she was too smart to teach. Ask a question, you'll get a 15 min lecture about why you should be asking your TA and her TAs even seemed confused. She is extremely unclear when it comes to grading, due dates, etc. Very challenging. This was the hardest class & it was only a 101. She treated it like a grad level.
I took this asynchronously & initially did not like it, but she really listened to student feedback & made the course more enjoyable and easy to understand. Many students complain about her, but it was simply due to their inability to read her emails (honestly). Stay on track of her announcements and make sure to turn things in on-great 101 choice!
Exams were close to impossible unless you have a photographic memory. Just a midterm and final and a couple 10 point assignments throughout semester. She is very very smart, to the point where shes not the best at lecturing because it just does not make sense. She tends to ramble and you can do study guide, study, and get a C.
She is definitely one of the worst professors in the Political Science departments. Very unclear on everything she did in class and had no clue what anyones grade was. Acted as a student was very unprofessional throughout the whole semester. 100% would never think about taking her again as I would like to learn in a class not have to teach myself.
To say this class was a complete waste of time would be an understatement. Class meets 3 days a week and two of the days are her lecturing. Class typically starts 10 minutes late due to technology errors and it is Rare that she ever makes it past slide 2. Always rambles about nonsense. Never actually learn anything & 1/2 your grade is tests.
She is extremely uninteresting as a lecturer and does almost nothing to engage the class. Her class rules are ridiculous and she is strict about them. The class is not terribly difficult but it is not worth having her as a teacher. Genuinely one of the least enjoyable classes I have taken and I dreaded going to it every day.
This is by far the worst class I have taken at USC. She doesn't care, the class always starts late, syllabus grading is not followed, rambles from random notes that aren't displayed on the powerpoint (which we never get through), TAs are never in agreement, should be an asynchronous class bc its all based on online modules. DO NOT TAKE.
Her lectures are hard to understand and she is very unorganized. Tests are not hard but I would not take this professor if you dont have to
Dr. Barbieri will stand at the podium and talk about almost nothing for the entire class. She is unorganized, easily distracted, and unaware of how to teach a class. The syllabus was always wrong, study guides were unhelpful, and the TAs didn't know how to help because they were confused too. Do not take this class with Dr. Barbieri.
Easily the worst professor I have ever had at UofSC. She is extremely disorganized and goes on hour long tangents. She also allows other students to speak on tangents for the majority of the lecture. She is inconsistent, cannot operate Blackboard. She moved our class to be mandatory in person with two weeks left.
Dr. Barbieri is definitely an intelligent and well-educated professor. However, she should not be teaching a Poli 101 lecture class. Her lectures went over very little relevant information and she continually struggled with microphone and technology issues. While easy to pass, the homework was the only part of class that went over relevant info.
I took the course because it was mandatory for me. She made my life hell for the few months that I took her class by asking me to write extra papers. Literally most of the content that she taught went above my head and didn't make any sense in real life. Plus she's not even nice or courteous. Sometimes I felt she was rather racist. STAY AWAY.
She's the only one who teaches this course, but if there was another teacher, I would most definitely take them instead. Half the time she doesn't know what's going on and the class in general is a mess. Just do the assignments and for exams, make your own study guides. Good luck.
Very disorderly and chaotic class at times. Read the modules and study the quiz questions from the modules and you will do well on the tests. They are straight forward and she isn't trying to trick you with the questions.
She's truly one of the worst professors I've ever had the displeasure of taking. Unorganized and gets off topic way too often. She never gets to the core course materials that you will be tested on. She leaves all the work to the incompetent TAs who get their signals crossed. Truly awful communication to us and expects way too much of the students
Dr. Barbieri is perhaps the worst lecturer I have ever had. She could not explain even the simplest content to save her life. I can safely say you will learn NOTHING from this class. It's a pretty easy A if you're good at Poli-sci, so don't stress about that too much.
Dr. Barbieri is an ok professor, just prepare to teach yourself all of the content. Her expectations of her students, while unclear, are usually reasonable. To her credit, she is incredibly intelligent, teaching is just not her strongest area.
Professor Barbieri is all over the place. She was the only prof available for my required POLI101 class and it was a hot mess. There are minimal clear instructions, not very many grades, etc. She has lots of technical difficulties and spends lots of time discussing them. I honestly suggest that you take anyone but her. Also, the TAs are no help.
Dr. Barbieri is not the best professor but not the worst either. Her lectures can sometimes turn into tangents, and the class could've been organized better. You must take the initiative to do the work on your own. If you don't complete the assignments, your performance in this class will reflect that.
The worst class I have taken. Barbieri should not be teaching. Homegirl does not know what she is doing. Her lectures aren't even about what is on the exams. The TA's all send mixed messages. You teach yourself everything off of online modules. Would not take if it wasn't required. Not difficult but Barbieri makes me wanna pull my hair out.
Professor Barbieri was easily the worst lecturer I have had in a very long time. She rambles about absolutely nothing for the entire duration of the class. During the review sessions before the final and midterm, we were lucky if we were able to go over any material at all.
Barbieri should honestly should not be teaching. She grades incredibly harsh. You can tell that she does not have compassion for her students. When I got a bad grade on the midterm, I emailed her asking her if there was any way I could possibly get some extra credit. All sent was a link titled "How to better prepare for an exam."
She is a VERY intelligent woman but is unable to complete a thought. The class is disorganized and she goes on tangents about everything so the lectures make zero sense. For the tests, do the module assessments because they're copied word for word. If you're a decent test-taker and have some prior info about the topic you'll do pretty well.
ok NO. She is so nice but literally does not know how to teach at all. Nothing she says makes sense and it is all irrelevant to your test. Your TA grades you and she makes it feel like you should have taken 3 other levels before basic POLI101.
I will actively go out of my way to never take a class with Barbieri again. Her lectures make no sense, and the TAs can't even help because they're just as confused as the students. Final grades are heavily reliant on the midterm and final exam, so if you're not a good test taker, expect to struggle. No extra credit offered all semester.
Dr. Barbieri is a very smart woman, too smart to teach. You learn nothing in lecture so preparing for exams (are which worth half of your grade) is impossible. There are study guides given but they don't relate to the exams at all. The TA's are great though. She genuinely means well I just don't think teaching is for her.
Professor Barbieri means well but is the worst lecturer. She goes on tangents to the point where you have 0 idea what she is talking about. The class is based on the midterm and final grade only so you need to prepare by doing the module and module quizzes otherwise you have no shot at passing.
In her lectures, Dr. Barbieri usually talks about the things you should've learned in the previous weekly module readings. As long as you read the modules & do your work you'll be fine. This course isn't really that hard. But when it comes to tests, she usually asks students to "suggest" some questions, and sometimes the questions don't make sense.
Avoid Professor Barbieri at all costs. She is quite literally the worst teacher I've ever had. Her POLI101 class made me not want to be a PoliSci major anymore. She was often late for class, had technology issues, and then spent much of the lecture rambling about COVID or some irrelevant topic instead of actually teaching the material.
For the midterm, I created the study guide for the class and knew everything on it- plus examples for each term (it was a 10 paged study guide). I studied for 12 hours and I got a C. The content we were tested on was not covered. For the final I modified how I studied and reviewed all the content for the class. same thing happened. I got a C again.
She seems like a kind person, but she's not a teacher. I'm a 4.0 student (or I was). I always study hard and then get As. I did that for this class and still got sucky grades on tests. The questions were worded weirdly, and even the TAs said that you could argue multiple answers. this class made me switch my major from poli sci to undecided.
She isn't good with technology. She gets confusing at times but the TAs were a big help. The only reason I got an A is because I read the modules she assigned. Most test questions come from the module assessments, so keep up with those and you'll do fine.
I don't have good things to say about this class. Barbieri was horrible. Not a teacher. I could've skipped all the lectures and just did the modules and would've passed because they just rip off all their questions. Very few grades, no real rubrics for anything, all TA's grade differently. Horrible communication, 0/10. Made me want to switch majors
I did not enjoy taking this class. The professors and my TA would take days to respond if I got one at all. The lectures are hard to follow and completely unnecessary, all of the information you need is in the online modules given to you. The majority of your grade comes from 2 exams that are incredibly difficult.
This class was a trainwreck. Take it with literally anybody but Barbieri. These reviews are not false. Run.
Worst lecturer I have ever had. We got through an average of two slides per class. DO NOT TAKE.
She is very confusing to follow. If we did not have separate TA class meeting times, I would have no idea what we were even supposed to learn in the course. The class is stressful, and was one of the worst classes I took. Do not take her classes if you want to actually learn something.
Professor Barbieri is really nice, but this course was harder than I expected. Whatever you do, please do not join a GroupMe for this class created by fellow classmates. Do your own work. I never joined any GroupMe for this class, but someone tried to use my identity to cheat on the midterm. Thankfully, my innocence was proven, and I earned an A.
Had zero regard for a student being sick and not being allowed to attend class. Continued to give zeros for not being able to attend class. Doctor's notes were sent to her and the school and it still has not been resolved. The way assignments were graded was confusing. I highly recommend to avoid taking her classes.
I have enjoyed my classes with Dr Barbieri. I have taken Poli315 and Poli433. She is very knowledgeable and you can tell she is experienced in her field. Poli 433 is a difficult course I will earn now, you need to know economics before taking this class. Dr Barbieri is also a caring and nice professor, she helped me with my work outside of class
Usually,I would say although not a good teacher she is still kind. However, Professor Barbieri lacks in many areas. She is monotoned and a poor teacher, her lectures lack substance and engagement opportunities. While she's not terrible, she was often condescending, unkind, un-empathetic and doesn't even really seem to like her students or care much
Prof Barbieri is nice and cares about her students, but the class was boring. She's very monotone, spends way more time than she needs to on the same topic, and sometimes comes across as condescending. Everyone was so confused by the assignments and the grading didn't make sense, but it's an easy A if you go to class and pay attention.
Overall, Ms. Barbieri was super nice. She was a tad awkward but that was okay. The class was kind of boring, and she does NOT let you get on your laptop or phone at all. If you go to class and do the work then you will definitely get an A. However, the last paper was 5 pages single spaced and I did not like that one bit.
This class is a test of my sanity. She's so monotone and hard to engage with in class. Besides playing semantics every time someone answers her questions, the class literally has no structure at all. The study guide is so broad and vague. I feel like the Amish (you can't take notes on your laptop). She's nice as an individual though...
Barbieri's class was a mixed bag - lectures were dry, but attendance was mandatory. Managed an A with help from the textbook and tools like unstuck ai.
I am writing this as I study for her final. She might be a nice person, but she is not personable. If you ask her a yes or no question, expect her to go on a tangent, make no sense, and not answer your question. She just gives me a headache. I cant wait to be done with this class.
There's so much I want to say, but it's not nice. She lacks empathy and is very monotone. Her grading process makes no sense as it is unpredictable, and she probably uses chat GPT to grade our assignments. This is the type of class that makes you want to drop out of college, mind you, no electronics are allowed. I regret not dropping this class.
DO NOT TAKE if you have SDRC accommodations!!! She will not allow you to use them in class!! Extremely monotone and difficult to talk to. Feedback on our big paper (25% of grade) made no sense and exam study guides are huge yet tell you nothing. best of luck
Professor Barbieri is probably a very nice lady outside of the classroom. But do NOT take her class if you can avoid it. Anytime you ask a question regarding the class she will tell you to look at your syllabus, and if you ask her about class material she doesn't give a direct answer. Doing the reading is essential to passing the exams.
This class was disorganized and hard to follow, with unclear lectures and no structure. The professor jumped between topics, making note-taking difficult, and refused SDRC accommodations to many who needed. Exams relied heavily on The Dictator's Handbook, with random pop quizzes adding stress. Huge paper at the end 10 pages. Avoid if possible.
She is a nice lady, but this class was unbearable. Most of the time she barely lectured, and spent majority of our classes going over the syllabus or teaching us how to write (and cite) a paper. Avoid this class unless you like zoning out while she repeats herself over, and over, and over, and over again. she is really nice though- but srsly avoid.
This class was so PAINFUL and Lectures lacked structure, and too much time was spent on repetitive tasks like citing sources. The syllabus was referenced often, but key material wasn't properly taught. Assignments were unclear, and grading felt inconsistent. Unless you're okay with repetition and confusion, I'd recommend avoiding this class.
Easy class easy mid term and final, listen during lectures and you will be fine. No technology during class and lectures for entire 75 minute class though.
She had a hard time remaining on topic. It would not go to non-global politics topics, but it would not be relevant to what we needed to learn for the class. It would be okay if it did not happen every class period for 10-15 minutes (total, not at once).
She is very monotone and boring and does not discuss the important material in lectures. Group project had very little actual instruction even though it was the most important grade. Can be nice outside of lectures, but too much reading and despite reading most of it, I feel like I didn't learn anything about politics.
People aren't lying. She's not good. She rambles in lectures and doesn't answer questions clearly. The ta's carry the class. Syllabus and assignments aren't clear and then are graded harshly. Way too hard for a 101 class. You will be clueless as to what is going on the whole semester. The ta's, professor, and syllabus all say different things.
Professor Barbieri is nice but will go off on unimportant tangents within the class and often times we won't even get to the notes. The class doesn't seem to be following any guides, which makes it feel very unorganized and every class you never know what you are walking into. Good luck on the group projects too, there is no guideline for it
Honestly, her teaching style is not good. She does not allow us to use our laptops, so we have to write notes by hand, yet she goes through the slides fast. Her exams are manageable, but you better study well. She wants the paper a certain way, yet hardly gives us an idea of how she wants it. If you have a choice, do not take her class!
Do not take any class with this professor.
Barbieri is the worst prof I've ever had. Grade is almost entirely based on a group project (harshly graded) and she doesn't post any lecture materials. She rambles about nothing and expects you to understand. Good luck getting her to listen or respect any valid accommodations! Seriously, avoid her like the plague. If you don't, pray for a good TA.
let's just say that when she goes to apply for tenure, she will have a hard time after my course eval. it was like they took the most unbearable professor they had in the department and gave her the 101 so that she could weed out all the students who were undecided. if u can take someone else for poli101 DO IT!!
Professor Barber is very knowledgeable about her field but that knowledge didn't translate well to her teaching abilities. Electronic restrictions and minimal assignments aside, our lectures were often off-topic and far behind, sometimes making it through only two slides. Grading was unclear, as well as group project instructions.
No technology allowed, all notes must be handwritten. Prof doesn't answer questions, just goes on a tangent about something else. Lots of students struggled. She is very harsh and rude at times. She isn't good at teaching the subject matter and doesn't seem to care about students. Don't recommend to anyone.
No clearing guidelines for the HARSHLY GRADED group project which is most of your grade (+ a multiple choice midterm and final). Takes attendance. Use your TAs!! Go to class because she doesn't post the PPTs and the exams rely heavily on them. She's a boring lecturer but the content is easy, and refer to the readings if you need clarification.
I usually think people are too harsh on RMP, but this she is genuinely horrid. The group project is a nightmare and tests are very hard to study for. Hers was the only class I've struggled to get an A in despite it being a 101 level. Pray you have a great TA. If you don't want to endanger your GPA, avoid this professor!
