she gives you the notes and you just have to copy and study. easy to pass, just pay attention
She is a very fair teacher. She provides all information needed for exams and is very clear on this. She is extremely smart in the area of Microbiology, you just have to keep up with her pace! She provides e.c. during the course and is very helpful if questions arise. Recommended for Lab & Lec.
Very nice teacher. She gives you an outline, but its too broad. Also say you take chapter 1 test. When its time to take C2 she still asks questions about C1. Instead of focusing all your time to sudy on c2 you need to still remember everything from the last chapters. Tests are 100 questions. Tough!
She was a genious about the subject...but she needs to realize its only 101...we don't need to know that much.
I really liked her. She talks really fast, but gives good examples, relates the material to everyday life. Only the first three test were 100 questions- she took the questions from a word bank on those test, so some wording was weird. But I though it was easy. just read the chapter an pay attention
This was the hardest teacher I ever had! I'm not sure if it was because biology is not my thing or I just didn't like her. I dropped the class after 2 weeks!
If you are looking for a challenge this is the class for you! She gives notes but they don't go with the test. She claims she is not trying to be tricky with the test but they were super difficult. She is a nice person but a very difficult teacher. I barley got a C and I will never take her again. Take Sugermeyer or Wrenn!Good Luck if you take her

I had her for Lab and she is a very challanging teacher but knows her Biology. She was a good teacher but you have to study a lot!!!
She is definately a challenging teacher! But she knows biology very well and if you dont understand something she will go into detail until you understand the material. She will work with your schedule if something comes up as long as you call her and let her know. You have to study in detail b/c those are on the test. Study like its your job!
She is very picky. Makes the course harder than it is. teaches like everyone is a biology major
She's a fast talker and gets annoyed it you ask any questions. This is an intro class but I don't think that she got that memmo. No opportunity for EC, no lowest grade drop. The tests are not consistant (difficulty wise). I do not reccomend her for INTRO to Micro!!
Not helpful
she is not helpful at all. no extra credit. what she teach doesnt match on the test. she gives outlines of the chapters, so you are on your own reading those long chapter. i wouldnt recommend her for anything!!!
She knows her biology but expects you to know it the way she does and talks very fast and really doesn't explain things very well. You cannot miss a lab class or you will be screwed! Do not recommend her for any class.
This class was a little hard but not impossible. She gives little extra credit but if you study hard you will do well. I recommend her for both lab and lecture.
Not helpful at all. I am a Biology major and this class almost made me change my major.
She didn't explain things clearly.2 people in our class got A's-the 2 people who took only 1 class that semester &could devote hours each day to studying. Everyone else struggled to get Ds and getting a C on tests was as good as most of us could hope for. Obviously, since biology is easy for her to understand she didn't feel the need to teach well.
She is horrible! She knows her biology but does not know how to teach it. She does not explain things well. In order to receive an A out of her class one would have to be freaking Einstein!
She is a horrible instructor - she has no personality and does not know how to TEACH her knowledge to others.
She does have a great wealth of biology knoweledge but she is horrid at trying to TEACH it to a class. Tremendously hard teacher, Biology is supposed to be fun and interesting she makes it dry, dull and boring and very hard to follow.
She is the hardest teacher I have ever taken! myself and others had to drop out because it was too hard. If you can help it...DO not take her!
She is terrible at explaining what she wants you to know. She defines a big word with an even bigger word. She gives handouts but only about 10% of the material is actually on the test. When I started this class I had a 4.0 and was going for an A. By the 2 test, I was just trying to pass. In short, our class started out with 32. We are down to 14.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY TAKING THIS PROFESSORS CLASS...HER TEST ARE POSED IN A WAY TO MAKE U SECOND GUESS YOURSELF.EVEN IF YOU KNOW THE RIGHT ANSWER YOU WILL PUT THE WRONG. SHE GIVES YOU THESE STUDY GUIDES FOR TEST BUT LITTLE TO NONE OF THE MATERIAL IS ACTUALLY ON THE TEST. OUR CLASS STARTED WITH 32 AND ENDED WITH LESS THAN 1/2.WASTE OF TIM
RUN!!! So many students had to drop her. We are now all taking Biology this Semester. Because of her class I have to take an extra semester to graduate. Even when you study your butt off to get an A, you will end up with a C at best. RUN!!
If you study and come to class you will do fine.
Started off REALLY hard. She was the hardest teacher I have ever had. This was my last class to take before nursing school and boy did she prepare me. She is tough but Micro is a tough subject. She doesn't baby her students she expects them to work and study. You will learn alot from her if you go in ready to dedicate some time and effort into her
I didn't find her that hard a teacher, but I love biology. Her tests are multiple choice, which I didn't find difficult. I did not use her handouts to study, I studied the book. If you want to go on to higher bio/science, then I think she is a good teacher. I wish I had her for lab class because my lab teacher doesn't prepare us for the mid/fin
hard subject content, but buhrer is clear and helpful
I had no trouble getting an A in her class. However, I did take Bio 1 and read the text. I would not recommend for Lab, so much. Overall, she is a very good teacher and will help if asked.
good teacher. really cares about science. you must be dedicated. tests come from notes and whatever she writes on the board. COPY DOWN.
Lecture: She is a wonderfully nice lady. She will try to help you understand a concept or idea, and takes questions in class, and does her best to answer them. Drops lowest test grade, I suggest you try your best and save that for the last test, because if she falls behind, the last test can be over many chapters. Tests are mult choice.
Test are extremely hard. Only about 10% of her review packets actually end up on the tests. Lets you out early often, but doesn't teach in a way that most can understand.
I study and take pride in knowing I earned a good grade. However she makes students feel intimidated, and it's almost like she enjoys that.I think she tried to make the course harder than it was.Take Mr.****th instead for lab, you'll be glad you did. Also, each week your "quiz" will also include what you will learn next week.Good luck in her lab!
Notes are taken from the power point she uses the whole semester. no side notes, clarification, or facts other than whats on the slides. reads word for word from slides and when she explains or gives further detail about the subject, she only rephrases whatever was read off the power point. did not take her for lab.
shes a really good teacher. she goes over pretty much everything you need on the tests as long as youre in class. attendence isnt manditory but its easy to fall behind if youre absent alot. i had her for lab too and she makes sure you understand the material. make sure you read the next weeks lab before class so youre prepared.
Wonderful teacher and her passion for the subject is obvious. The keep to passing her class is to ask questions. She will and does take time to explain in detail what's going on. I'll Be taking her for BIO 102
I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. She is one of the best so far. Attendance is the key to this class! As long as you are present for your classes you will know EXACTLY what is on the test. And she makes the subject very interesting and understandable I will be taking her for 102 also.
This teacher is passionate about her subject and does everything in her power to help you understand. I wish all of my professors were as excited about their subject as she is. I look forward to taking her for 102.
Very good teacher. She knows her stuff. Had her for lecture and lab and definitely recommend taking her class. She's very strict but that's what keeps you on straight. Would take her again.
Wonderful professor! Makes it simply clear! Provides a sort of outline for notes. Tests are from her outlines and PPT's. Read ahead, helps tremendously to know what is going to be discussed and to prepare questions you might have. Be ON TIME! Would recommend her to anyone and would most definetly take a class with her again!
LAB. Took both her lecture and lab. Recommend that u take her class. She is extremely clear and will explain things 4 the lowest level of knowledge. Those who didn't take her lecture and had her lab didn't have quite the strength to pull off an A. U really have to study for her quizzes. Mid-term/Finals are fairly easy if u attend all classes.
Took her class back in 2006. Excellent teacher! The class does start right on time though! Wish I had her for my lab. She will help you if you ask for it.
Way too much detail. It takes forever to get through the chapters. Needs to stick to the topic and move faster. It is just bio 101.
She intimidates you and makes everyone of her students look dumb if they ask a question. She is way too in depth with her chapters and isnt very clear on what you will be tested on. I never got above a C on her tests even if a studied alot.
I woudn't recomend to take her. She explains everything so fast like she is on hurry or smth. She doesnt really answered to you questions.Quiz every week.I had B in her class but I had to work hard for it.
Had mrs. buhrer for bio 101. teaches way to fast. no homework. random quizzes. four unit tests. no final exam. Test are kind of hard. she tells you to study stuff, but doesnt end up on the test.
I took prof buhrer for bio 101 lab. She spoke kind of quickly and reviewed things too fast. She is clear on the stuff she covers in class. If you are upbeat and fast with the notes and comprension i recommend her but if you want structure slowed and broken down Lisa Wrenn is the professor for you.
Great instructor, just come to class (you get points). I would recommend that you use a recorder in her class, she can give a lot of information.
Very smart teacher. Definitely the kind of teacher you would want IF you're a Biology major or if you're really interested in Biology. She goes into a lot of details about everything. 4 tests, no homework, but try to review the material constantly. i have no interest in Biology and I got a C. Overall, she's a great teacher
I took her for lab and it was terrible. She's very smart and knowledgeable, yes, but she breezes through it all too fast and acts like we already know it. If one asks questions she gets frustrated, especially if "she just went over it". Half the material she emphasizes is barely on the tests, and we all celebrated in her class if we got a C. Boo.
She is an awesome professor. I learned a ton in her class because it was a challenge. As long as you study for the quizzes in lab, lecture tests, and lab practicals, you will be totally fine! She likes to know that you are working hard and preparing for class each day. Overall, I really learned a alot and thought she was a very thorough professor.
I really enjoyed having her. She was interactive and fun to listen to. She was extremely patient with the slower students and helpful when we needed explaining. I really enjoyed having her. P.S. I had her early morning class.
I had her for Bio 101 and 102. She is VERY knowlegable in biology related to molecular and medical biology. When it comes to ecology, zoology, botony, or evolution she is really only as knowledable as the book maybe a little more. Heavy emphesis on Medical Biology, constantly relating the material to disease. Boo
I liked Mrs.Buhrer.Shes a good teacher. She gives students her powerpoint notes and tells you what to study for on up coming tests.Attendence is Mandatory. She uses it as a test grade.Attending class is an easy A.THIS COURSE IS HARD. Any teacher you have great or bad doesnt change whats expected of you.Try to take it on a light schdule. STUDY!!!
Had her for both lecture and lab. She is very knowledgeable on the subject and is always willing to answer questions. She would even do lab practical reviews in her lectures! She does expect you to study the readings thoroughly! Also she gives lots of extra credit on tests. If you take the class seriously, you can easily pass with an 'A'. Note- 102 lab is VERY hard, so try to take 102 on a light schedule.
Took Ms. Buhrer's BIO 150 lecture/lab. Very knowledgeable. Gives extra credit - but you do have to work for it. This course is difficult, take it with a light load. She can come across very harsh, but she really is a caring instructor. She works hard for those students who work hard too. First half of lab easy, 2nd half very hard. Recommend highly
This class is pretty demanding, plenty of reading and studying. I had her for lab and lecture. There was a quiz every single class for lab. I enjoyed her class, a little strict, you MUST attend class and NOT be late, but her class is do-able.
TAKE ANYONE BUT HER!!!IF YOU WANT TO GET A GOOD GRADE THEN DONT TAKE HER CLASS. TEACHES THE MATERIAL AND THEN HALF OF IT ISNT ON THE TEST..
She assumes everyone in the course is able to get into her lab section and includes elements of her lab section on tests. Not fair if you have a different lab instructor and no warning 2 She wastes time taking students questions instead of teaching. There is a reason she has office hours. I don't come to class to hear about her disdain of sponges.
She's passionate, but not a great teacher. Aot of the semester was spent taking questions and now we're in the last 3 weeks and she's attempting to cram 3 exams not really teaching the material. Her attendance policy is crazy- I've missed two classes one for strep throat and the other for a funeral and my attendance grade is an 80 percent.
She knows her stuff, but she is not easy. Thinks everyone should know Bio in and out. She is widespread in regards to her test, so you end up doing lots of studying that is not really needed. Her test are really hard, no extra credit, dont be late/absent. She is a hard professor, expect MANY headaches if you take her.
She is knowledgeable and sweet yet very tough. She likes small details in the chapters for her tests, but you must also know the big picture so reading is mandatory. Attendance to every class is highly recommended because she covers a lot of material and missing one could negatively affect your grade. Overall pretty good teacher.
She's not a bad teacher, but there are much better. Shows up atleast 5 minutes late to every class and claims it is a "grace period." Her class is very doable and she is passionate- however, she lacks time management skills. We're taking over half the semester's exams in the last 3-4 weeks of class. There's no reason for this.
I am currently in her lab class. Make sure you don't miss any labs or you will miss A LOT of material! There's a quiz every lab class. You'll have a 3-4 page paper to write towards the end of the semester. If you really study, this class is do-able. Not sure about her as a lecture teacher.
she doesn't give many assignments to cushion your grade. you have a quiz within the first 5 minutes of every class and if you miss a class you cannot make it up. the practical was difficult but if you studied you would have done well. i only had her for my lab and i guess i reccomend her but idk about her lectures.
This professor knows her stuff, but she often expects students to understand it right away. I am not sure how well I am doing in this class but she is a great teacher. Attendance counts as a grade so make it count. Don't take this class IF you have a full load. A heavy amount of studying is definitely a must.
Seriously, I had her for bio 101 and I loved her so much that I took a 7AM CLASS just to get her as a professor. She knows her stuff and really shows passion for the subject. When you're studying for tests you think it's going to be hard but her tests are easy!!! (if you know the information) TAKE HER, trust me. One of my fav. professors
I liked that she enjoyed her job. She was always straight to the point in class. If you had a question she will help you. The only issue that I had was that her email address was not up to date.
Ive taken her lab and lecture and i dont like either. Her bio 102 Lab is horrible. She likes to "prepare" u for the practical by making every quiz like the practical. by the time the class starts u barely have any time to do everything. It was VERY common to hear from the majority of the class that they failed the weekly quizzes.
had her for micro lecture and lab. she's a passionate professor and really knows her stuff. her tests are fairly easy. it is up to YOU to learn and study the material. she's actually quite funny at times. ATTENDANCE IS A GRADE, so try to show up to all classes! it helps a lot! all in all, i recommend her. :)
Had her for lecture BIO-101 and Lab Bio-102. In lecture be prepared to take notes prior to the topics discussed. Very informative and knowledgable. If you are a Bio major or really like Biology, this will be an insightful class, if you need just the credit to walk, maybe you should find somebody else.
Do NOT take this prof, she is at times caustic like HCl and seems to expect you to have difficulty in her class or else you aren't doing something right. That is my impression of her personality after taking many others in my college career. Unnecessarily acidic and unhelpful. Very knowledgeable, yet not recommended.
VERRRRY hard teacher... she goes very fast and expects you to keep up. She seems to get frustrated if you ask question or if you don't understand. She's not really approachable either... she shows up late to class alot. Attendance is a grade! If it weren't for the lab, I probably would have made a "D" in this... but the lab made me fail completely.
Had her for both Lecture and Lab over the summer. I do NOT recommend her over the summer, or ever. We only did one test the first half of the semester and 4 the second half and a paper and a presentation! Serious cramming toward the end of the semester. I had my presentation and test on the same day - talk about stress! No syllabus.
I took her over the summer and boy, was she ridiculous! Like what the person below me said, never ever ever take her. This class was supposed to be an INTRO class, but she got into it. The way she taught was horrible. She went all over the place. Had her for lab and lecture, she was horrible in both. I received a 68 D, highly upset. Don't take her!
If you have any other option, don't choose her. She doesn't care about you doing well. i had her for lab and lecture and i blame myself for making such a terrible mistake. The course is not as tough as A and P. You C+ with her is an A if you pick somebody else. You can make an A but why put yourself in a difficult situation if you have an option?
Though i rated her once but i chose bio 142 instead of bio 150. The honest truth is she is good but don't let her mess your grade up. The effort you put in to get a C will get you an A with somebody else. Choose her if you like taking risk but don't forget you will be competing with people with A to get to Nursing school.
I had her for lab and was very disappointed. I studied a lot but couldn't get higher than a C on any of her weekly quizzes. Most other lab teachers do not grade as strict and try to help students. I am teetering on failing because of this class. She is also disrespectful to students who ask questions. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE if you can.
Great Professor. She is very knowledgeable, but expects students to act like college students, and be prepared. Really, just a no nonsense professor. I liked her. I am taking her for 102. At least I know what I am in for, for the most part!
She is very knowledgable! She's very thorough on covering the material. Tests are multiple choice BUT you have to know the material. Def a lot of studying.
if you actually try to learn you will do good in this class. you have to work for what grade you want. if you expect to get a good mark for no work then first off your part of whats wrong with america and second choose a different education path. test question are not directly out of book, you actually have to know material. lover her as a teacher
This is a fantastic teacher to take for a basic college course. Slacking off by not studying and not coming to class will get you a poor grade. But if you read your text, take good notes and review material, you will excel. I'm no genius but have a 96 average because I put in the time. She's very knowledgable and enthusiastic, but demands effort.
I find this professor's style of teaching to be incredibly condescending, as well as her communication skills to be somewhat lacking. Each lab starts with a quiz that consists of details of the previous week such as equipment used or results rather than concepts. Questions are worded poorly and clarification is difficult. I would not recommend her.
IF you want to struggle and have no life then take her. Lack of communication skills and gets annoyed easily if you ask questions.
Not an easy class, she goes through chapters really fast, you won't have a life.
She is absolutely dreadful. I had her for my BIO150 Lab and did very poorly. She is over critical and is really bad at explaining what we are doing. She has no interest in helping you. She treats you like a graduate student and just expects way to much. I highly recommend avoiding her at all costs.
Do not take her if you dont have a good background on micro because she wont stop to refresh your memory. It is an advance class and you need to study everyday to cover the amount of material. Quizzes are not multiple choices and you must know how to spell all names. SHe is nice but it is hard to aproach her because she is not open to questions.
I am an A student. I took her in the summer for lecture. She does not provide copies of PowerPoint, but I highlighted information from her PowerPoint in my book. The PowerPoint comes directly from textbook and what is in red is important. She provided test reviews, charts with important info. We had 5 testsone opportunity for 5points extra credit.
Good teacher very helpful easy tests if you study the content
I would not recommend her whatsoever! I felt like I was basically teaching myself the entire semester. She knows her stuff, but she's not very good at explaining things. If you ask a question, she makes you feel like you're dumb. She teaches the material is if you should know it already. She was no help at all.
Professor Buhrer very knowledgeable in her field and has a passion for teaching. I had her for lecture and she is a fair grader. She has no problem answering questions and always prepares the class before the tests. I definitely recommend her!
Awesome teacher! Very knowledgeable, clear, and fair. Does a lot of group assignments and has straightforward tests.
Ms. Buhrer is very knowledgeable, however, her style of teaching is confusing and difficult to understand. Her tests are straightforward but require a lot of studying on your own. (since the way she teaches is, once again, confusing) Had her for lecture and I regret it because I could've done better with another professor.
Having Ms. Buhrer for lab was beyond difficult. She gave us no study guide for practicals, we weren't allowed to take quizzes home to study them, she just posts grades on your blackboard account with no explanation. She is smart, but a horrible teacher. I would recommend taking another professor if you want to do well in science.
This teacher, gives power point presentation and makes you take a lot of notes. If your'e not a good note taker or listener, you will struggle in this class. Do not take her in the AM if you have a hard time staying awake in this class.
She is very smart, but can be really confusing. If you don't take good notes then you won't pass her class. Do not take her AM class if you have a hard time staying awake.
She''s smart she doesn''t curveisn''t very clear on what she''s talking about she is one of the hardest teachers ever to learn from. Take someone else.
This is by far the worst instructor I've ever taken! She isn't helpful, and shows no interest in helping her students. If you want to pass and really understand the material go with another instructor.
She doesn't over no extra credit. She is not clear when it comes to quizzes an gave no help for the practical. She ends lab early every week. Do not take her if you need this class to pass.
Buhrer is not that hard of a teacher, as I have stated in many of my other reviews if you want to be coddled, you should have went to a trade school like ECPI. This is college, most of you are supposed to be adults, act like it. Study and you will pass.
Obviously very intelligent but comes off unprepared. She rags on us for not bringing in the powerpoint notes but doesn't post it until 10pm the night before lab. Her quizzes aren't too bad if you study but its the practical where I really felt duped. She didn't cover all material and no study guide. Its all your notes so make sure yours are good
I read the other reviews and I simply don't understand they are about. I had an A in her lecture without killing myself.... yeah I did put in some studying and I am no genius... so if you would like a good grade, put in some effort! She knows the subject well, she put in some online quizzes and extended them. I would take her again.
Professor Buhrer is a smart woman. She is also available during office hours and email all the time! She gives quizzes that help loads with the test, and she is a very fair grader. Put in the work, and you will see that A.
Very wordy, confusing direction. If you don't study ahead you will be lost in the next lab.
Professor Buhrer is a passionate biology teacher, knows what she is talking about. She expects you to be an excellent student. If you are willing to put in the work you will be rewarded with an A and a through knowledge of biology 101 and 102. I had been out of school for over 30 years myself and earned an A in both classes. Ask questions!!
She is a funny person but she is an intense teacher. Terrible teaching style and doesn't make you feel like you learned anything. Great person, terrible teacher.
Professor Buhrer set the online class up for you to get a good grade. As with any online class so you are expected to read and learn a lot of things on your own. She also has very informative power points that were very useful to me. The quizzes are easy as long as you go through the material and you get 2 chances to take them. Test aren't too bad.
She is a great online teacher and as long as you read the chapters/power points you will do great in her class!
She may seem tough when you start off the course, but it gets easier. Biology is a tough subject so people may find it hard in general. She is a good professor to take if Professor Wrenn is full. She is clear cut just gives you the basics will explain, but not as thorough. Gives you a pre-quiz and post-quiz every week. Need to have the lab book.
she is an overall good teacher. very simple. do what you're suppose to do and you will pass. her tests were all pretty easy and multiple choice. I had her for hybrid so half online half in the class room. my only complaint was that when we took tests online we would usually only have around 30-45 minutes to complete the test, not really enough time
I made the mistake of missing ONE lab class, and I was SOO behind. Even though my boyfriend took pictures, videos, extra notes, AND I studied. *MAKE SURE YOU DON'T SKIP* (And if you do, make up another class) She's tough. Study the power points for the quizzes, all of them, as well as READ. THE. BOOK. that's how you pass. she's cool though.
Read the chapters that are assigned, and read over the docs that she posts with the units. the quizzes are pretty close to the test questions. But all the material is covered. The Final has to be taken on campus.
Not the warmest person, and sometimes she can be intimidating. But if she can tell that you are working hard, you are serious, and you come to class everyday, she will do her best to help you succeed. Quizzes are on powerpoint, which means that she reads out the questions one at a time and write down the answer on a blank paper. hated that
Teaches at a higher level of 150. You will need to take biology and/or other science class. VERY enthusiastic about the subject. She grades spelling of species and genes.
Professor Buhrer has an intimate knowledge of Microbiology. You need previous BIO coursework before taking her. Take her online for lecture, make sure you print out all of her outcomes and charts to study for the tests. For lab, make sure you take pictures of all of the slides, and study them for her quizzes. She is really sweet, and accessible.
I loved taking her online lecture. She uploads study guides and charts of everything you need to know to be successful for the quizzes and tests. It was basically all on the tests, and I never got anything below a 90 on tests. Quizzes are 2 attempts. She is very strict on due dates, don't be late. She doesn't play around.
This class is not recommended if you have never taken a bio class before. I work full time and found it hard to study like I should. Prof. Buhrer is a difficult professor but very helpful and wants you to learn all material. I have her for lab and you cannot miss a class or you fall behind. Very fun otherwise!
I took her lecture online, and highly recommend it. She is organized, communicates effectively, and gives clear instructions. She does give you "learning outlines" (study guides for each chapter), know everything she lists, read your book, and WATCH FOR DUE DATES because she is strict with them. She sets you up to succeed as long as you work hard.
Extremely condescending. The worst instructor I've ever had. Because of a spill in study lab, which all campus students have access to, she refused to upload grades or quizzes without an apology email from our class. More suited to teach middle school than college. Take ANYONE but this woman. The material was difficult but she made it unbearable.
DON'T TAKE HER! I love Biology and always tend to do great in all of my classes, but Ms. Buhrer's teaching style made me dislike Biology altogether. She gives you all the material (learning outcomes), but her lectures are ineffective!!! You have to look up everything for the test. She doesn't give extra credit, and her tests are difficult!
Her online class is definitely the way to go. Its as simple as read the outline she gives, read the parts in the book covered by the outline, do the quizzes, take the test. After the first few tests you realize you only need to take the quizzes then the test. Quiz questions make up the majority of the test. Super easy and much better than in person
The class consists of online quizzes and tests. She provides powerpoints with information from chapters. You could get by without a book. Most of the tests are quiz questions. If you take the time to study the material she gives you, it's an easy A. And the material is super interesting!
Her class is easy but only if you do the work and study for it. Her quizzes are on the board while she flips through the questions but if you studied, time should not be a problem. She explains every lab at once for like 45mins so you forget what she explained. STUDY THE VOCAB IN YOUR TEXTBOOK and you should have at least a solid B in her class.
I took BIO150 on campus with a different professor & had to withdraw, its a very tough subject but Mrs. B's online lecture is a piece of cake as long as you study. Do the quizzes, then go take the test. The test questions are basically all your quiz questions from that unit. Tests must be taken on campus. Quizzes allow 2 attempts.
Professor Buhrer was ok. She was not very pleasant sometimes.... I understood that she wasnt cutting any of us slack ,but she could have been a little more caring and realistic . Test arent that hard if you study the quizzes . Other than that if you have to take her ,take her. just study , pay attention , and turn everything in on time !
Took her Bio 101 class online and it was fairly easy. I had taken Bio before, but it was so long ago that I needed to take it again. Do her practice tests and review her power points. She also has study guides for the tests that are a must. She gives you the tools to get an "A" her class.
Prof Buhrer was a great bio101 professor (especially for a 9am, 3hr long class). She was always very happy and kind and easy to joke with. The lectures start out with her going through all of the instructions (sort of boring) then actually completing the tasks (pretty fun). Study for the quizzes and do the online ones too then it'll be an easy A
She is HORRIBLE as a lab teacher please take my warning and dont choose her. She doesnt put grades in correctly. She will compromise your grade. Nothing is multiple choice. No extra credit or rounding grades. Spelling counts. If you ask a question she will tell you to look it up. Very rude Does not give feedback! Never again!
the online portion was simply reading and then taking quizzes and tests in the testing center frequently. the lab was heavy with lectures for some reason and then little guidance with the dissections and microscopes. before each lab there is a prequiz online, a quiz in class, and a model quiz at the end.
Online lect not terrible. In-class lab awful. Both self-taught. Powerpoints only. Fig it all out on your own. Went over too many lab projs all at once too fast. Never really LECTURED on anything. Felt like we were 2nd thoughts. Quiz heavy. Lect tests based 100% on quizzes. Asked ? in lab re: lect quiz& was told "you need to study harder." >:-(
She didn't ramble during her teaching, she was clear and concise with instructions. If you were unsure of what the next step was she easily walked you through it again and didn't belittle you. If you miss any labs you are taking a heavy toll on your grade. Pay attention, participate, show up and you're golden.
Teaches and explains things well. Sometimes you don't know what to expect on her quizzes Rely heavy on the workbook for the quizzes and use the slides she uses in class I didn't enjoy her class I found the labs boring. She is tough on her policy and follows the school code to the t. There are two study guides in your book use them for the praticals
This is a professor that doesn't care about you or your needs. She wants to always be right but rarely is. She is constantly rude and disrespectful. I'm a good student and her single class made me want to drop out of school. Talking to her is like talking to a brick wall with attitude. Wish I never had the displeasure of taking her terrible course.
Professor Buhrer is very "by the book" and is a stickler for the rules. I have found that most teachers will be flexible about grades when you are open and honest about your situation, but not her. If you miss an assignment you will get a zero, she does not care unless someone has possibly died. She's nice sometimes but I did not enjoy her class.
I will never take her again, she seems to want people to fail her class. The lab is online and she wanted answers to how to experiments turned out when we were never given materials to do them (THAT WE PAY FOR IN TUITION BTW) I'm an all A student and I'm sure by the end of this semester, I won't be anymore because of this class.
Micro is never a class to take online (Thanks, COVID). The labs are unclear since you can't do half of it at home. The exams are even more challenging because it's all guesswork based on your "lab" that you never really did. After all, you don't have a live bacterium. She is a harsh grader on top of it and a little sassy.
Prof. Buhrer does not set up students for success. Worst experience. While the subject itself is enjoyable, instructor's style is erratic. We are graded on labs we cannot do nor are demonstrated. PPTs are inaccurate, but expects accuracy down to upper/lower case. Tests/Quizzes are cryptic and vague. She doesn't teach. We are given YouTube videos.
There were few times I wasn't feeling it. However, grading criteria/expectations were clear, and necessary material for the success was provided. I smile reading complaints about spelling. This is an advanced class; I didn't expect a teacher to baby me. Professor Buhrer knows her subject, she will make sure you will do too. Work hard and get your A
Professor Buhrer runs a straightforward class. Lectures can be dry, but the material is interesting if you put in the effort. Use online resources like Unstuck study along with the textbook to prep for exams. Stay on top of assignments, and you'll likely earn a good grade.
If you study the power points that she gives you every week the answers to the quizzes and test are on there. She even highlights the information that is going to be on the quizzes and the important information you need to remember for the course
Barely anything she puts up on the study is used for the quizzes or tests.
Absolutely not. Pick someone else!
She is great! It is microbiology, which means you have to read and study. She will answer your questions and her personality is awesome! I will recommend her.
Do not take this class online! The tests and quizzes are made up of a lot of fill in the blank. That already is terrible but getting docked points for even using an upper case or minor misspelling is terrible. Hard teacher and the quizzes and study guides rarely help. If you take this class. GOOD LUCK
If you don't have a religion, find one and start praying. I had the upmost displeasure of taking her class online. Not only are all of her tests fill in the blank but she will not give credit if you spell incorrectly. I missed a test of hers by one day due to heavy family issues and when discussed with her she told me that everyone deals with stuff
I would rather be in jail
