A great teacher! She's a very interesting and helpful person. If you take good notes, do your homework, and put a little extra study time in you should do well. Her test aren't very difficult, but her final is very comprehensive and will hurt your grade if not prepared. Altogether, take her class!

Her classes are so easy to understand. She is good teacher a bit fast for a summer session. If you planning to skip all your reading and homework - take other teacher. She expects you to read and do homework. And believe me if you do it you'll get an easy "A". I'm a foreigh student. So, trust me.

She runs thru everything at 100 mph....and same if you go to her office for help....But, she breaks it down so simple that you actually learn it....She has a sense of humor, but some days she can be pms'ing really badly. Tests are more than fair!!! Tests are simple and easy...You should get an A just studying on a regularly. Easy and fun class!!!1

Helpful,if you express an interest. Has AM classes only, but worth rearranging your schedule to attend. She covers the important and relevant material that will lay a foundation for future CHM courses. Gives Extra Credit and an opportunity to correct tests for EC also. Take notes, read book, you will do okay. Test can be hard, but fair.

She is One of the best two teachers i have had at nova. sincier, understaning and very very cute and lovely. You study the way you are supposed to , you will get an easy A. The other best teacher is Walter Wimbush for physics.

She is a good professor. She does speaks very fast, but that helps you to stay awake in her class. She is very enthusiastic, and she is hard, but if you study the problems she assigns for homework, and the sample tests she posts on her page, you should do well in her class. She is not an easy A teacher. I recommend her to hardworking students.

Don't assume you'll get an A by reading some of the comments here. summer class was rigorous and i worked my butt off just so to get the grade that i wanted. She is a nice teacher, clear, down to earth and very approachable. her tests can be hard but put if you put some effort and actually dedicate some hours into studying, you will get an A.

She may be nice in the way she teaches, always making jokes, but is bitter in the sense she doesn't respect her students questions. She says: "Don't make me STUPID questions!" She will embarrass you when you make her questions, you can count on that.

I'm taking CHM 111 with her & she is amazing so far...I think she is the best chm proff. in Alexandria. Her exam might be a little bit hard but if u dedicate ur tym for studying, u'll get an "A".I cant wait till i take the 2nd part with her in summer.

Dude, Professor Burton is the bomb. She is the easiest Chemistry teacher you will ever find in NOVA. It's very hard to get into her class, if you don't register early. She explains every crystal clear, like she was the creator of chemistry. Please do her homework for extra credit, and stay after for her review session. It's an easy easy A +++++++.

Professor Burton is a great down to earth teacher. Don't think you will get an easy A in her class, it will be really hard to even get a B. You have to work really hard to get a good grade in her class!!! Professor Burton moves extremely fast, half of the time you cant even understand what she is doing because of the fast pace.

She's down to earth, easy to talk to, and excellent at reducing complex problems into manageable ones. If you want to learn Chemistry, she makes it fun. If you are going to take the MCAT or PCAT later, take her courses. She will tell you what you are likely to see on the actual exams. Also, tons of extra credit opportunities and study sheets!

I took both CHM 111& CHM 112 with her. I love her...she's amazing!!! She's really helpful...just do the practical exams, homework & follow up in class...u will for sure get an A! Highly recommended...her class get full in one day though so try to register on time!!!!!!!

I took Chem 111 and 112 with Burton. She gives extra credit with the homework, is very helpful during office and tutoring, her class is fun and yes she does fast but you end up getting used to it. She is awesome, I wish I could take organic with her. Even if this is your first chem class, take her :)

Coach Burton is awesome! Super fast and smart. In class answer the questions she asks otherwise she will cut your head off. One minute she is motherly, the next minute she is raging bull (silver back). Don't forget your lab goggles and don't come late to lab, you will be kicked out of lab. She loves to lecture and does a AWESOME job at it too.

Spectacular professor, but not for people who want to be lazy in a core science course - chemistry is not a fluff science. Lots of extra credit and drops your lowest exam, if you manage worse than a B, you're doing something wrong.

I LOVE Mrs. Burton. I took CHM111 with her and I've enjoyed her class very much. She's an excellent teacher, lots of extra credit opportunities, and crystal clear with her expectations. Fair grader and extremely understanding. Take lab very seriously though because it's no joke. I thoroughly enjoyed her class and I'm registered for 112 with her.

I withdrew William stanclift then enrolled in Burtons', she is a great professor who cares about her students. By far I enjoyed this course.. Although I warn you a 5-week course goes so quick and she speaks fast. I'm very slow so it difficult. Read and take notes before she lectures!!! Take her you won't regret it.

Dr. Burton is by far the best chemistry teacher at nvcc. I attend a 4 year school and went to Annandale campus to get signed for Chem112, I met Dr. Stanclift who told me that I shouldn't take this class in summer cuz I would fail!! a rude person he is so I decided to take it with Burton and i'm glad I did, Crystal clear, helpful, and I got an A!

Dr. Burton was awesome. She truly cares about how her students perform and wants to help. She is quite fast in lecture, so you will have to keep up and study hard. But she makes a 5 week chem class as positive as possible. I definitely recommend her! A+!

Dr. Burton is the best prof. in the whole entire world. Words cannot describe her. I am a full time student with a full time job and I get A's with her. There is no way you can get a failing grade with her because she lectures everything on her tests. Extra credit homework :)

Everyone should take her, especially if Chemistry is not your subject. I struggle with Chemistry, but she is very helpful and although she teaches a bit fast, she is readily available for answering any questions you have, in person/email, etc. She'll help you understand Chemistry. Take her!

She knows her stuff,but she goes thru the material at lightning speed. Reading the chapters help prior to class, but do the homework. She's helpful when you ask during office hrs. Her teaching style is a bit rough, but you learn. Would take her again if she taught 200-level chem.

FAST at TEACHING, Sarcastic, quirky, funny, blunt, straightforward, dances a little bit while teaching, and the most compassionate teacher i have ever had. Even while she is being mean and straighforward, she has a way to motivate you and feel accomplaished. Chem is sooo hard for me, but having her as a teacher was worth the struggle.

instructors's lectures are different from the textbooks. they are expensive and sometimes instructors don't use them and they make it more difficult for the students. USE HER NOTES the textbook is a fail

She is AWESOME! Taking her 5 week CHM 111, she is very nice and approachable. She holds frequent chemistry help sessions after lecture. Her tests are easy if you study the notes and she gives loads of possible extra credit. Labs are mandatory but lecture isn't though I recommend going. I plan on taking her for CHM112 next semester.I reccomend 100%.

Dr. Burton is amazing. I <3 her! She is wonderful at teaching chem, and I have the utmost respect for her. If you try really hard, she will do all she can to help you. I took her for 111 and 112. Just as a warning though, the 5-week chem summer class is REALLY intense. She loves what she does, and it shows. She gives great advice and pep talks too!

One of the 2 best teachers I've had at NVCC. She's not easy, but she's REALLY good at teaching the material and makes it interesting. If you're trying to understand, she'll help you. But if you don't care about it, don't expect her to care. If you don't have a chemistry background, I strongly recommend taking her class. I ended up loving it.

I had her for 111 and 112, she's a great teacher with good humor. She knows her stuff very well, and goes fast at times. I'd advice you read before hand but either way, if you do your homework and come to lectures, you will get atleast a B.

Best. Teacher. Ever. You can't fall asleep in this lively class. She moves fast but genuinely concerned the students are getting it. Text and PowerPoints are useful but you get 95% from lectures. Homework & worksheets not graded (get extra credit for them) but completing them is essential to doing well. MUST attend class & do homework.

She is at the top of her game. Learn to think like a junior chemist (and have a few laughs at the same time).

A phenomenal professor! Her lectures are indeed fast, but she makes the topic very relevant. She offers extra credit for each test, which helps you understand the material and also gives you an idea of how she presents the material on exams. This is not a chem class you will sleep through! Very high energy. She does move fast, but repeats concepts multiple times in different ways to emphasize understanding. VERY helpful. She can be abrupt, it is part of her charm, just ask anyway.

I took both CHM 111 and CHM 112 this summer. It's a fast-paced class so you better keep up with the material or you will fall behind. She gets to the point and ask her for help when you need it. She drops the lowest quiz grade and the lowest lab grade. There was an optional final exam in the case you missed one earlier exam or did poorly on it.

Dr. Burton is an excellent professor who talks very fast. She holds all students to a high standard academically and will catch you if you attempt to cheat and/or copy work. While she may seem harsh at times she truly cares for her students and wants them all to succeed. Take her only if you have a real interest in chemistry.

Dr Burton is AWESOME but so so tough. She is the fastest talker I have ever taken for a professor, so you better be good at taking notes for 3 hours straight, AND comprehending some harda$$ Chemistry. I took her CHM 112. I didn't realize I had to study so hard but once you study AT LEAST 10 HOURS A WEEK you will have at least a B. Just study!!!

Hands down best chem prof. took 112 at annadale got a D then took Burton got an A and never used the textbook. Lectures are fast, but clear and amazing. Lab is easy as well. Drops lowest quiz in lec&lab, final replaces lowest test grade. Tons of extra credit opportunities and holds study sessions which truly help. Recommend her to any student.

Hands down best chemistry professor at NOVA. The lectures are never boring and she explains everything clear but she will stop and help you if you are confused. The labs are fun to do and she cares for your safety. She also give a lot of extra credit so take average. Exams aren't too bad but you will definitely pass the class. She's funny too.

Professor Burton's easily one of the top 3 professors at NOVA. Although the class has a lot of homework, she really puts in the extra mile to help her students. Her class notes make it easy to follow class discussions and as long as you read the labs ahead of time you should be fine. (She also has a good sense of humor)

Dr. Burton is a good professor. She is cleverly funny. Although, she is fast-paced - but will stop to help you if need be. The class was hybrid so we met only once a week which really meant there was a lot packed into 3 hours. Wouldn't necessarily say she's consistent with the way she grades. Overall okay experience. Professor Burton makes CHM111 easy! She's a very hard worker and knows the subject matter very well. She goes very quickly and this isn't a class you're going to fall asleep in. Things even might go over your head (happened to me but I still did very well). That being said there's still many assignments to be done and many extra credit chances.

Taking it online and she pretty much helps you within an hour you message her wether over BB Skype! FREE ONLINE TEXTBOOK! Very understanding if someone is busy with work! Here guided practices help do well on the exam!! Take her since she is amazing!!!

Dr. B is like your "cool" grandma. She is very caring and understanding; however, there's a lot of things in lecture that need to be covered. With a limited amount of time, she has to talk quickly! But there are a LOT of EC. I can see how some may struggle with this course, but if you're good with math, this is an easy A course. Also tests are fair

Dr. B wants her students to succeed and was always there to help whether on zoom (video chat) or through remind (text). She graded assignments very quickly. Her videos uploaded to canvas about the chapters were very informative and helpful. She gives lots of EC.

Dr. Burton is a very caring professor who wants her students to succeed. Her lectures are very fast paced, definitely utilize all of her materials especially EC! CHM 112 is a tough course, but she tries to make understandable as much as possible. Her lab is straightforward and she makes everyone creates their own lab notebook. Definitely take her!

ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC. I don't need 112 and I contemplated taking it FOR FUN. Pay attention, she works fast. Take pictures of her examples. Labs are fun and relevant. Final is cumulative but exams are CH specific. Homework is heavy but she gives practice quizzes for all CH w unlmtd attempts. Math heavy but such is chem. EC opps galore. U won't regret

Taken as an online class. She's on zoom 24/7. She grades your work within a day whereas most other professors take a week to two. She very clearly cares about her students and is very lighthearted (except when grading). Loads of extra credit and prep material for exams. She does talk very fast, as mentioned, and can be hard to follow at times.

Honestly one of the best sci teachers I've ever had. Very relatable and patient, gives AWESOME lectures, a bit of a "mad scientist" vibe that makes it interesting. Very easy to contact and always willing to talk shop. Teaches you everything, but tells you what to focus on for exams. She made chemistry fun for once, and that means a lot, I think.

Dr. B is the best professor I have had at NOVA. This class was an accelerated 6 week class and had an exam almost every week. Definitely a lot of work as there are online practices/quizzes, labs, and exams. However, she was on Zoom basically every day with mini lectures to supplement and there was a bunch of extra credit. Open note exams.

Dr. Burton uses many different modalities for learning to help anyone and everyone maximize their learning potential. The assignments are challenging enough to help retain the information. Basically, use all the tools she gives you, ask questions and do the extra credit. You'll do well in this class.

CHM112 is a lot of material, you're going to have to work hard and will not be able to cruise. But Dr. B is very understanding and will do everything she can to help you if you're willing to put in the work. She's also flexible on due dates.

Took CHM 111 a long time ago (barely passed with a C), needed CHM 112 for grad school. I was nervous, but Dr. B was amazing! I never thought I'd say I got an A in Chem. She explains things clearly and applies lessons to everyday topics. She always made herself available. Extra Credit is a lot of work for little points, but still helpful.

Dr. B is an amazing professor, loves chemistry and teaching it, and you can really tell from her lectures. She makes hard topics very easy to understand and interesting. Do not slack off and you will do great. Very accessible outside of class. Take her you wont regret it and youll actually learn a lot from her.

I took a hybrid, online lecture with in person labs. She uses remind to be contacted and returns questions very quickly. The tests can be difficult, but if you do the quizzes in full, you'll be fine. The in person lab was a roller coaster. We did 5 labs back to back. It was intense. Dr Burton is an amazing lecturer and is always willing to help.

First day dreaded Chem to enjoying coming to class because of Dr. Burton. She's very kind & understanding. She does talk fast in her lectures, but you can always ask her questions during class/lab, email, or Zoom & she'll be glad to help. Group work are during labs. DO YOUR HOMEWORK/QUIZ/ExtraCredit, they will prepare you for the exam. TAKE HER!!!

Dr. B cares about students and is passionate about chemistry. She dedicates time outside class helping, provides lots of material online, jokes throughout lectures and labs, and offers EC assignments. I struggled through lectures but that might be the result of a personal issue and the quantity of information given in such as short time.

I took this class as an accelerated 7 week class and it was HARD, however, Dr. B was right by my side the whole way! She is AMAZING! Take this class with her you will learn so much and have a ton of fun along the way!

Dr. Burton is the BEST professor I have met. Seriously, take Dr. Burton for CHM 111 & CHM 112. Put in the time and effort as she puts an equal amount in lectures/labs as well. Took for CHM 101 and it was manageable. She offers a lot of extra credit which I recommend doing all of it. There are five exams and she drops the lowest exam. She does not give much feedback on exams but does offer help if you are willing to meet with her or Zoom. She has a study guide for exams which helps a lot! I recommend taking her!

She's the most supportive online Professor I've ever had. She offers regular Zoom help sessions and office hours; she's kind and explains concepts very thoroughly. Assignments can be a little challenging but definitely manageable, put in some good effort and you'll do well. She also offers regular extra credit opportunities. Fantastic Professor.

I took Chem101 online. Dr. Burton is an excellent professor. This class was entirely online, but she took the time to do a Zoom meeting twice a week to review the material, answer questions, and review the study guide before the test.
