Good lecturer, but test are hard.
The WORST Teacher on earth! Me and my friends would ask her questions during lecture and she would scream at us and tell us to shut up and then tell the whole class that we weren't allowed to ask any questions so everyone was lost. Very unhappy person!
Kat Courtney is a extremely dedicated teacher and is very interested in your success. Plenty of chances to earn points and extra credit but tests are hard.
can't understand her lecture at all.
I would rather have had a different professor, but she's tolerable. Very big on attendence and labs.
She is interested in your success and will help you as long as you put effort into the class. She has no patience for students who dont show up to class prepared. She is extremely helpful and is funny in her lectures. She makes the boring subject matter interesting. Extremely thorough.
This teacher understands what she is teaching but she has a very hard time getting the point across to students. She is very unorganized and it can get frustrating, but you can call her on it and sometimes it is for your benefit. Do all the review questions and Read the book. Her tests are crazy har
The comments stated about the teacher playing favorites is ridiculous. Here, I am an engineering major with no interest in Biology except for completing the requirement and I'm receiving an 'A' so far in the class. Obviously, these inidividuals are lacking study habits. Learn to study students!
She was never clear on what chapter we were on in lecture (she kept skipping around). Her tests are really hard, so memorize the book and every concept in it.
It all comes down to whether you REALLY have an interest in the material or not, and have plenty of time to study for it. This class is extremely tough if you have other priorities going on in your life. More study=better grades. Simple as that. Knowing the study guide by heart is key.
She is very willing to help will stay with you and explain it until you get it. Wants you to do good. Class is very hard though, you have to study a lot to earn a good grade. Offers a little extra credit. Funny and likes the topic.
She's somewhat helpful if you already understand the subject matter, but swears at you if you don't. She plays favorites and grades preferentially. I was excited about biology when I started the class, but not so anymore. Her exams are really hard and the study guides are almost impossible to finish
Great teacher overall, doesn't put up with BS
I agree with the last review. Avoid her as soon as possible. She does a poor job in explaining the concepts to us.
Kat is an excellent, down to earth and fun teacher. She is willing to help you understand the material, but you have to be willing to work hard. Bio 2A is an extremely hard course. I studied my @$$ off and I was a worried that i might not pass despite my efforts, because i got "D's" on 2 of the 4 exams. Luckily, Kat offers extra credit. I mana
Katherine is an excellent teacher. She is so willing to help students that she gives her phone number to call her when you need help. She is willing to make appointments with you outside of school time to help you grasp the subjects. When we called her for help, she was willing to explain it to us. Doesn't play favorites, you just have work hard.
Learn Study skills. I cannot agree with those who say that she is unhelpful; few professors give out their home numbers. These people obviously did not study. Learn study skills and ask questions. It becomes apparent during lecture that she is passionate about her topic and is will take the time to explain things clearly if asked. Fun field trips.
The class is hard, but she tries her best to keep your intrest
cool teacher, always making lectures loud and clear, helping students, when they need help and makes lab fun
I need to try harder
She is one teacher who is truly interested in her students. Most teachers can care less about you and why you are there. She actually wants to know about you and your pursuits. Not an easy teacher, but if you want to know the subject well, she is the bomb!
Te very first day this professor told us that this class will be one ovf te hardest classes we will take at moorpark! She was right! It is a very hard class, butt this teacher offers help and study guides/suggestions. She is helpful w/other subjects as well. She makes it hard not to learn with her love for her subject and students.
Wow you have a lot of comments! Excellent teacher
kath is one of the best teachers i've ever had. she truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. freakin awesome. she's not the easiest teacher, but she loves what she does and she is committed to helping you untill you fully understand the material. she's also a really cool person outside of school
She is a really good teacher, she loves her subject and really knows alot about it, her test are killers because its 4 to 5 chapters and alot of memorization, she does give some extra credit
She is the best biology teacher that I have had at Moorpark! She truly cares about her students succeeding, and is always willing to stay after class for help. All of her tests are STRAIGHT from the study guides that she hands out, so there are no suprises. Her multiple choice is from review at the end of each chapter too! Great teacher... )
I took this class because she got a good rating here. She can be nice and helpful after class. If your a good brown noser, she'll like you. But I'd like to think grades are based on quality of our work. Study a lot for her tests, do the sudy guide and do well in lab.
She's a lot of fun and you will really learn a lot from her. If you're going to take a bio class in the spring you should really sign up for her Field Bio Class it counts for IGETC you get to take field trips. Learn all about California's native plant and animal species and see the state's deserts, beaches and mountains!
THE KEY TO PASS THE CLASS IS TO STAY IN THE LAB AND DO NOT !! LEAVE EARLIER NO MATTER WHAT OTHER STUDENTS DO. Study the lab troughly and you will pass the class with an A. Furthermore after you read the chapter at least twice DO !! the multiple choice question on the book because you will find some of them on the test. In conclusion you want to rea
Love this class! Fun, inspiring field trips to beautiful locations. Great learning experience. Instructor made it enjoyable. She truly cares about her students and is extremely knowledgable.
To be quite honest, I have no idea how I managed to get an A in this class. It is A LOT of studying but fortunately she gives study guides. Know them. Do the extra credit. Be in lab (The lab practical is hard). The lectures bored me to tears but she's a fun person once you get to know her.
Best biology teach I've ever had! She is so funny and relates to her students so well. Her class isn't that easy but as long as you read the book and pay attention in class you'll do fine. HIGHY RECOMEND HER! You'll be thankful you took her class. Also VERY helpful with not only bio but school in general. She is also well traveled.
Alot of people in my class were difficult and said they didnt like her but i really did. she relates really well to students and is able to teach the material so you remember it. its a biology class- you are going to have to study a TON, accept it and make sure u do it! i had fun in the class i hope u do too.
hard class, but a great professor. Take her, you will be glad you did.. study all diagrams in the book and know the material and you will be successful.
Run for your life Worst teacher ever had to complain to the Dean!
My advice:Stay away from this teacher! She is horible! She doesn't know how to teach! She lectures straight from the book but also uses her own books to add to the lecture. She tests on about 7-8 chapters at a time so if you fall behind, you will fail. Lab is a joke! Out of 30 students, only 7 remain! If you want to have a good grade do not take th
Horrible teacher...takes points off for no reason...dont take her.
She is very sweet and funny. She definitely is a professor I would suggest. A little fast paced at times, but if you ask her to clarify, shes more than happy to. Very upfront and on the table, gives lecture notes, and tells you what to expect. As long as you take notes, rewrite them, and read the chapter...youll pass the tests and her class ; )
Seriously guys...take this teacher and you will Fail..no joke...and I heard she rates herself here to get students. So half of the good ratings you see up here i bt you its all her commenting herself...dont take her class...shes the worst teacher for bio...doesnt even know what the hell shes talking about..
I agree. she is one of the worst teachers in school. Hardest class i have EVER taken in my life. Doesn't teach at all so you end up having to teach yourself from the book. ot willing to give partial credit. Worst teacher ever, my GPA dropd. please don't take her/honestly. I would study for at least 10 hours for tests and still do poorly.
worst teacher.
Biology is a challenging class, but this teacher makes it impossible to pass. She trys to scare people off prior to the first exam so she can "weed" off the bad ones but her lectures are incomprehensible and expects way too much from her students. Bad teacher if you want to really understand the subject.
OMG! If you want to pass your science class, do not take her! She will seem so upfront in class with all the material, and trick you on the tests! I studied for DAYS for my 1st test...and FAILED!! :( I would not suggest her although she is nice and kinda cooky ;)
Great teacher. You have to study really hard. She gives out study guides from day 1 and they are EXTREMELY helpful. She really wants everyone to get a A, but they have to earn it. She is always willing to help.
TAKE THIS CLASS AND YOU" AVOID TAKING THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER. SHE LOVES HER MOUNTAIN DUW MORE THAN her Students.worsttt teacher. HER TESTS ARE HARD AS HELL..I HAD TO GO THROUGH HELL TO PASS THIS CLASS.
Teacher does nothing to help students even when asked. States your at a age that you need to look for yourself. Reads everything straight from book and has no idea what she is doing in a lab. Would have learned more from the free Ipod lectures you can download. Started with a full class and now most have dropped, stay away is my advice.
This teacher was great! Gives you a study guide 1st day of class.. if you have any questions just ask her and she'll answer them, this class is hard you HAVE to study or else you'll end up dropping b/c its too hard for you to catch up. She really wants you to pass.Drops lowest grade.. I got a B even after failing 1 test.STUDY and you'll do great =)
Difficult subject and there's no getting around it. She gives you all the questions ahead of time so she expects good answers on the test. All information can be found in book. Very helpful when I went to clarify answers to test questions. I put in the correct amount of effort and got an "A", sounds like these other people are just lazy.
i would never take any of HER class again its not easy like everyone said. She doesn't care if u lost or need help.
It's a biology class so don't expect it to be all fun and games. It's a tough subject but she makes it easy. Take the study guides seriously b/c all the questions for the test are on those things. She will answer any questions you have over and over any try and make it exciting. I RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER TO ANYONE, will take her again.
Very hard teacher, I have done all the extra credit, studied for DAYS on the test & still am doing poorly. She has horrible note taking techniques in which she runs around the room writing and sometimes you can't catch all that she is saying or writing. She makes you think she is a helpful teacher, but in all reality she is a loser who doesn't help
I attended every class and lab, did all the extra credit, got a A on my last bio class (im not a lazy person), this person still managed to mark me down for problems in which i have to question myself. I memorized BOOK DEFINITIONS and put it on a quiz and i get docked points for not going by her definitions.I advise not registering for her class.
She is awesome! She was always there to help me and any other person that approached her. It's a hard class but as long as you do the study guides you'll get an A. She keeps the concepts easy to understand, and I love her. If it wasn't for her I would have never been interested in Biology since I had a horrible teacher for bio 2A. Take her!
LOVED HER CLASSES!!! I took intro to Botany and then Bio 2A with her and got an A in both. There is a lot of note taking and studying needed to pass the class, but its honestly REALLY easy if you just follow the study guide EXACTLY. All the info for the tests are in her notes from lecture so pay attention in class and write everything down.
BEST TEACHER EVER. seriously you will never find another teacher so dedicated and fascinated by this subject. Take her !
AMAZING teacher! wants you to do well and cares about her students! very time consuming class but you walk out with a whole new understanding of bio! a truly unique and rewarding class! she is so motivating and dedicated! deffinately one of the best bio teachers here! She actually cares and wont make you feel dumb!
Not recommended if you are looking for an easy A; however, if you love biology (or willing to learn) then you must take her class! Tests are challenging, especially a great portion is on short answers. Must read the books in order to succeed.
She is very friendly, active, helpful, and willing to help you.You may need to remember a lot to success this class like other science classes. She always tells you what'll be in the quizes, so you can manage your time efficiently. She also offers many extra credits (i.e. field trips,5x10=50pts) If you like Bio, I totally recommend her (^-^)
I took Kath's course for both Bio M02A and M02B. Seriously the best professor at Moorpark College. If you are serious about learning biology and being well-prepared for transfer then she is the best professor to take. Not an easy A, but why would you want an easy A in bio? Its a hard class, and her passion and expertise made it amazing.
Kat is obsessed w/small details! As a student it's easy to get lost in the small details and lose sight of the larger picture in her class. If you're a Bio major, you many want to consider taking her class because you may want to know the material in such specificity. If not, then just take Austin & get a good comprehensive picture of the material.
I didn't realize we had to go on 3 field trips that took up the whole weekend each. And you will lose points for not attending. At the end of the semester you have to take a tree exam which is SUUUPER hard. But besides that she gives lots of extra credit, is very nice and helpful. Although I think everyone did better in the class, it's not hard.
Kath is awesome! Listen to what she says in lecture: if she is making a list or drawing a diagram of something, write it down, it will be on the exam. There is a lot to memorize but Kath is a great teacher.
The first week or so I felt like she conpletely lacked compassion. Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong. Kath is a great teacher, but you have to work for that A. Don't take her for granted or be a moron. She won't put up with it.
All i have to say is. Just because you're an adult doesn't mean you're mature. This woman is very unprofessional & almost impossible to understand. She can not stay on the same topic for more than 2 seconds. You're better off reading your book than showing up for class. Oh yea and you have quiz every week including the 6 tests.. 1 every other week
I took Kat for Bio M02A and M02B. This class is not an easy A. You have to study a lot and be really prepared for tests. She is extremely helpful and fun. She provides study guides and diagrams that you can fill out for a study tool. She has a lot of knowledge and is willing to share it. If your serious about Bio TAKE HER CLASS you will learn A LOT. If you just want to screw around don't take the class, you will fail. I loved her class.
She's passionate about the subject and enjoyable but the course lacks a focus that would keep students from mindlessly trying to retain little details. The tests are doable, but because she lacks this focus the ONLY way to do well on them is to do the 30 page study guides she pulls off the internet without specifying what 30% of it she tests on.
Listen, if you want a good grade don't take Kath. It's hard work and you really have to know the material to get an A. That's a good thing though. You really learn the material, in depth. GO TO HER OFFICE!! Ask her questions, get clarification. She'll find some way to make you understand. My sit downs with her made all the difference.
Truly a great person, I love her. As many have said, she expects a lot. But, I'm a BIO major... Anyone trying to enter the field of biology should go to her. Her high expectations equate to you truly acquiring a lot of knowledge.
She is the best biology teacher. She gives you the study guide to all the quizzes and the tests...what else is easier than that. Don't be lazy though, you will get backed up in information. Just pay attention, take good notes, and do the study guide. Not too hard right?
Easy Kath, overall she is a really good teacher, but her class is not easy by any means. She expects you to study, Surprise! If you read the book and take good notes you should do fine, but if you procrastinate I wish you the best.
She has a study guide online and the questions on the test are exactly the same ones. You don't really need the textbook as long as you take good notes since she says everything you need to know for the test. She keeps class very interesting and she walks you through the labs. I got an A for the semester and I'm planning to take her Bio1B class
Kath is one of the most challenging teachers you will ever take. She knows who is interested and who is not, and if you are not interested, then suddenly ask for lots of help, you're not likely to be rescued. If you want to learn, and you apply yourself, you will never learn more from a professor. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, this professor changed my life
Easy Kath..LOVE HER! very hard class, but tries to help you through it. Gives study guide for exmas and quizes..make sure you do them! This teacher changed the way I think about science and made me love it even more. Amazing teacher.
Kath is the best! She's extremely helpful so don't ever be afraid to go to her office. Strongly recommend going to class because alot of the questions from her tests come from lecture notes; so TAKE GOOD NOTES! I had her for BIO2A and 2B and got A's in both. DO THE STUDY GUIDES & you'll do GREAT! She offers study guides for exams and lab quizzes!
Kath is always willing to help & is available during office hours. Her lab is very easy/fun. IMO, her lectures don't prepare you for her tests (ofc they're related but it's mostly looking @ pictures). Her study guides for exams & lab are what prepare you, so 90% of the material is self-taught. Not enough time for tests but 45 pts extra credit avail
I recommend taking her class because she is very enthusiastic about biology and teaching her students. you can tell she only wants the best for her students and she is very intelligent and interesting and knowledgeable in the realm of biology. She is always giving the class cool examples and applications of what is learned form the class.
She's intimidating, difficult, and has a tendency to be short with people. That being said, Kath is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She pushes you to be a better student. Also, she's a total babe. Anyone who can't see it is lying to themselves. Thanks Kath.
Kat is by far the BEST teacher i have ever had. She made me love Biology! This class is by no means easy. If you are looking to get an easy A, DONT take this class. She is so helpful and extremely bright. Make sure that you study frequently! If you are a serious student and want to learn, you would be an idiot not to take her class. Take her!!
Lots of information to cover in this class, lots of time and work spent. Hard teacher
Take this teacher, you won't regret it.
Kath is an amazing teacher. She is helpful and knows the subject so well. The class requires a lot of studying but as long as you do the study guide and take notes you should be fine.
I took "Easy Kath" for Bio 2A and 2B she is an amazing teacher , but don't expect an easy A. She makes Bio interesting and she really wants all her students to succeed, but you have to study and take good notes
She's a great professor and made the class so interesting. Very helpful and nice. Bio in general requires a lot of studying, so read the chapters, do the study guides, and look over the notes, and you should do fine (the more studying you do, the better your grade will be).
Loved this woman with a passion, she is the best! You come out of the class with so much knowledge really drilled into your head to the point where it's nearly impossible to forget it all. LOTS of studying but well worth it. Take her if you can, she's one of the best professors you'll ever have! Very fair class.
Take her if you can! So far one of the best Bio prof. Listen well, take good notes and STUDY! You'll be fine :) She makes everything interesting. :) NO BS, very straightforward. She is the coolest EVER. Fun class and lab. You won't regret taking her. You will learn a lot. She has a lot of experience in almost all aspect of Bio. Love her! :)
She's honestly a bad teacher. All she does is talk about the pictures on the slide. Don't take her. Take someone else not even an Easy A.
I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews. Don't be afraid of taking Kath. She's a really sweet and funny lady who can really relate to students. She's always willing to help you. If you attend class, take notes and study, this class will be a breeze. I would definitely take her class again.
Don't look any further. If you work hard, you will get an A. There are no better teachers than Kath period. I loved her, her class, and her passion for biology rubbed off on me! I wish she taught every Biology course so I could continue to have her as my teacher. This class was the best experience of my life! Take her! You won't regret it!
She is great, english is my second languages and I cant speak very well, but this women explains things in the best way,I could underestand all materials, she was so patient to help me also. Bio is not an easy course, students should study study and study+Kath you would be successful, just take her class, I wish, she teaches Bio 2B, but she doesnt!
Biology is an extremely diffucult class. If you aren't a science major DO NOT take this class. This class is very demanding, you have to constantly study. Half way through the semester she stated that "every semester she has a 50% drop rate." This class is challenging and cramming before a test is NOT an option.
Absolutely my favorite teacher, extremely passionate about her work and really cares for you to know your stuff. I'm so sad to not be able to take 2B with her. However, it is a very demanding class and more or less took over my life. I love biology though and this class only made me love it more.
Loved this prof, So sad she doesn't teach 2B. TAKE her class, I doubt you'll ever find a finer Bio professor!!
She is AMAZING. She explains material very well, and will continue to explain until you understand. She loves the subject and makes lecture fun to be in. She also understands that life can get in the way, however you definitely have to show up to class on time, do the work, and study hard. Do the study guides and you'll get an A easily.
She has long lectures and her tests aren't really easy, but she's an amazing professor and is always willing to help you out and keep with it until you fully understand the material.
Kath is one of the sweetest professors ever. She genuinely cares about her students & wants them to pass. However, you will not succeed if you don't read the book & do the studyguides. Read the chapter you guys are going to go over the day before & do the study guide the day or weekend after. You need to work to get your grade, there's no other way
Kat is sweet and welling to help you until you understand the material. Expect to READ A LOT and STUDY STUDY!! The class is hard, you must put A LOT of effort.
ok. here's the thing.... shes funny, super knowledgeable, has great stories and loves her subject. the problem is that she sucks at teaching. She thinks that biology is easy and if you struggle its cause your dumb. 46 people started our class. we ended with 12. The final was a joke though. i really think it was so easy because she gave up on us.
If youre looking for an easy A, DO NOT take this class. Katherine makes you work for your grade, as she should. 6 exams and a final. Lab quiz every week. She wants you to understand and learn the material. She does not take attendance, but skipping class will hurt your grade. She is hilarious too. Lectures are fun. Do the studyguides youll pass!!
BY FAR my favorite professor. She made me solidify my decision in becoming a Bio major. That being said, only take this class if you're a science major. Not for the weak minded. Write down everything she says! Get on her good sidetalk to her so she knows your name. She will help if you ask! I Wish I could take her again, love and miss Kath :(
Worst teacher. She literally makes you feel like you're dumb. It is very surprising to see students write so highly about her, when in reality every at MP talks about how difficult and tough she is. Welcome to a class where she shows you pictures and talks endlessly without even breathing. Take this class if you want your GPA to suffer.
Kath is a wonderful professor. She is brutally honest, hilarious, and brilliant. If you have a chance to take a class with her, I would advise you to do so. She's intelligent and funny which makes the two hour lectures fly by. She has been my favorite professor, if I wasn't finished at Moorpark, I would continue to take her courses.
Her lectures help, but doing the study guides is CRITICAL. You don't turn them in, but I found them to be the thing that really let me pass the tests. She's very specific, especially about photosynthesis and DNA replication. You'll have to study, but I loved her.
Kath is an amazing professor. Her lectures are in depth so take good notes. She also gives out study guides for the tests that you should do for sure. A lot of the questions on her tests are from the study guides. The written part of her test is actually easier than the multiple choice. Take her class. She's hilarious and is very straightforward.
Her lectures are AMAZING! But her tests are nightmares, until the final which is always super easy. She gives a bunch of extra credit at the end of the semester because a lot of people are failing. All in all, she's great for a teacher, super sweet, really caring, but her tests are killers.
Lectures are clear, in-depth, and very well explained, but it is CRUCIAL you pay complete attention. If you zone out for just 10 seconds you will be completely lost because that's the nature of biology. Do study guides completely and her written tests are an A. If you have an A, you will have a COMPLETE understanding of biology. Not for non-science
Kath is a great teacher and I would highly recommend taking her class. She seems a little crazy at first, but if you talk to her and go to her office she will help you a lot. Go to class, read the book, do the study guide, and you will get an A.
6 exams, every week lab quizzes, lab final, lecture final You don't know what you have in the class until the last week of semester Multiple choice questions look nothing like the lecture 4 chapeters minimum on each exam Ps: if you want to ruin your 4.00 gpa like I did, take her
If you actually want to learn take Kath. She is passionate & really wants her students to work hard and actually learn for later careers involving science. Her lectures are very clear and if you complete her study guides and understand them, you're golden on the exam! She is also hilarious and enthusiastic which makes lecture exciting!
Kat really cares about her students and wants them to do well. The subject is difficult but she does her best to get us to learn the material and understand it. Shes available for office hours and is always happy to help. You really have to put in a lot of study time in order to do well in this class.
One of the best professors I've ever had, if you are going to be taking the MCAT or DAT this is the teacher you want. If you are looking for a easy A go else where, Kath actually cares about her students, but you have to put in the work.
She knows her stuff and can lecture really well. This class is very difficult. You must know all the answers and definitions word for word. 1/2 the class was gone by the end and she would encourage students to drop. You can get an A but your whole life will be consumed by Bio! Test every lab, test every 4 weeks in class . Some extra credit.
She is very lecture heavy, weekly quizzes (even if you had an exam that same day) , Five 1 hour exams lectures for the remaining 50 min. Doesnt use canvas. You have to keep track of your own grade. Which isnt to bad. Some of her quizzes are worth almost as much as test. Test are usually 20 multiple choice and the rest is short answer.
Professor Courtney is a kind, warm, and caring person. She really knows her stuff, and is a great resource if you have questions. This class will require more work than all of your other classes put together if you want an A, however, and I'm not exaggerating. This is, practically speaking, a 15 semester credit class, in terms of the time required.
Professor Courtney is very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and always offers help! Her Botany class is hands-on and so much fun, but please please make sure to work for it because it requires a lot of input. There are sooo many terms to learn and memorize. Read the textbook in the evenings with a cup of tea, and study smart for the quizzes and exams.
She was the worst professor I have had all my life. She didn't care about the actual learning and what is required and was only interested in her own subjective requirements. She made me hate the material and feel like I am dumb. She didn't make any accommodation for COVID till she really had to and wanted everyone to fail and called us cheaters.
Harsh grader, if you miss a word in your answer although you proved you had a clear understanding of said subject, you'll get a 1/3! Expect work 7 days a week your life will become biology. Lecture is long and never stops. I was a bio major.
I think Professor Courtney had a tough time assimilating to online classes. I feel if I took her in person I would have felt differently. I did feel she cared about the subject and wanted us to do well, but the disorganization and unclearness on assignments and due dates was more overwhelming then the work itself.
Kath is an energetic and knowledgeable teacher who inspires and motivates her students. She uses tangible examples to make the material interesting and life-applicable. She teaches to all learning styles. This class requires attendance to understand the concepts/do the labs. Vocabulary memorization is required.
She was a really nice professor and offered time outside of class to help students but she was very lecture heavy and took up the most of the hours of lecture and lab time.
Professor Courtney is hands down the best professor I had at Moorpark college and probably the best professor I've had in my college career. Katherine cares so much about her students and really wants you to succeed. I have always had a interest in plants but she inspired me even more to study plants and their applications. Take her classes !
Excellent! Very knowledgeable! Fun! She loves the subject and loves to teach.
One of my favorite professors I've ever had, very inspiring and helpful! Put in the work and you'll be fine.
I NEEDED this class and could not drop. this class is HARD. if you do not love biology do not take this class. probably the hardest class ive taken at moorpark. with a 2 hour lecter then a 3 hour lab after is awful. the test are impossible and she will shame you saying its easy when the class average is a D. This class will ruin GPA
Try to finish the study guide before lectures, or else you WILL fall behind. She always takes up the entirety of lecture time, so it's difficult to ask her in depth questions outside of office hours. She's super late with grading, but explains things really well if you reach out. Write down EVERYTHING she puts on whiteboard, especially diagrams.
Before each chapter's lecture, go over the powerpoints and try to finish study guide section IN THAT ORDER. She will usually take up the entirety of lecture time, so ask questions right away or during her office hours. Everything she puts on the whiteboard, especially diagrams, will most likely be on the test. She's very late with grading, btw.
This class is no joke. Will need to put in a ton of work to be successful. Knowing vocab and study guides is key for doing well on tests. She defines terms and ideas in simpler ways which is helpful. Not very quick about grading and is unorganized. Overall had to study a ton and struggled along the way but it is beneficial in the long run
Hard class but learned a lot. Need to study lots. Prof has is funny and personable but doesn't go easy on students. Offers EC along the way but overall hard class
She is tough, honest, funny, and expects you to show up and do the work. There is some extra credit. She is great about out of class time with office hours and in person and Zoom sessions prior to exams. Even on the weekend. I learned and retained so much. Definitely take if you want to actually learn and aren't just in it for the grade.
One of my absolute favorite teachers. So funny and caring, and all the field trips were amazing. Lots of quizzes, and sometimes gives us exam questions that weren't covered in class. Only announces exams 2 classes beforehand, so hard to prepare. Long lectures. Love her.
If you have a weak Biology or Chemistry base then it will be impossible for you to take this class. 5 hour long classes with 2 ten minute breaks. Professor is very caring and will do whatever you need to help you learn.
The class itself wasn't that bad but a lot of the stuff she believes in just rubs me the wrong way. I mean she's a science professor and still wears a mask…in 2025…when masks (unless it's n95) have been proven to have little to no effect. She thinks the sun is incredibly dangerous and you should avoid it. Might seem trivial but she's a science prof
consistently makes errors on quizzes & exams. unclear on what's on quizzes. quizzes every monday feels like u dont get a weekend. insane # of papers. can be generous, funny, and helpful but also passive aggressive & snippy w/ students. gave last unit exam and additional final on the same day. only 2hs to complete. good person, tough class.
while i found prof. courtney's class to be relatively easy, the way she paces her class makes it feel like you don't get a break. there are lab quizzes every week and exams every 3-4 weeks; however, the study guides that she provides are basically the quiz/test questions to a T, so utilize the resources she gives you (and the textbook)!
