I hated calculus in high school (and failed it!), but her classes made me want to become a math major. Her explanations were always clear. She was always willing to answer (stupid) questions. She actually managed to make class interesting. I would highly recommend any of her classes!

funny professor. easy course but then again, the math itself can be a bit intense. be aware of the final quiz in the course which may kick your butt! i was caught off gaurd and got like a 20 after getting As and Bs on the other quizzes. then again, the
awesome professor, loved when she played random songs before class. Good grading technique too!
A very uncaring professor who, despite trying hard and a decent preformance, cared little. Weekly quizes and a total of 4 exams. I got a chronic disease and she still tried to fail me. I had to go to the department to fix my grade.

Kathy is awesome. She cares about math way more than any of her apathetic students and yet doesn't let them dampen her enthusiasm. Good examples, good teaching, and even if you don't like her jokes they still make the class go by faster.
Not only was it the best math class I ever had, but I also learned one of the most important lessons of my life: how to solve mind blowing problems. The trick is to not try too hard at first, just read the problem and try a little before bed. Then immediately try just a little in the morning.
She's funny and easy-going. She moves really quickly through the material- I ended up leaning most of it from the TA-but willing to help. If you do your HW and keep up you should be fine. I'd say going to the TA sessions is the most important thing.
Professor Davis is a very funny, smart, cool teacher. She made class interesting and kept me awake actually taking down notes. I personally recommend having her for calculus.
Kathy Davis is a great prof! She makes everything very clear and easy to understand. I recommend her for anyone who needs to take calculus. Occasional quizzes and exams throughout the semester. No homework grades. Gives many resources including previous exams given, which are similar and really help in studying. Her teaching style is great!
She goes through subjects really quickly and you'll take a lot of notes for sure, but she keeps you wake and entertain. She's funny and lets you use cheat sheets once in a while. You'll learn a lot in the class. OH! Sometimes she brings cookies.
Great teacher! Goes through a lot every lecture, but tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes and tests. Her past q/ts are really helpful, basically the same questions! May be a little difficult if you haven't taken calc before, but she gives generous curves at the end of the class.
Very interesting and nice as a person, but difficult to learn from. You'll be taking notes endlessly in her classes and it's very easy to get lost if you don't keep up. The only was I made it was by going to the TA every week to help explain everything. Probably a good teacher if you're very smart and can handle yourself, otherwise, try somone else
She writes very fast, you can either take notes or pay attention. She works alot of examples really quickly but often times her initial explanations aren't very good so you wonder what she is doing. Some subjects are covered well but overall Davis is a very poor teacher, she just holds your hand through the quizzes and tests.
Hard to keep up. Really hard to read her handwriting. As a person she's pretty funny/kind. But as a teacher, not very good. Even though shes not the one that grades quizzes, you lose a lot of points for really small mistakes (putting + instead of -. Only take if you can handle it.
13+ yrs ago: Tests were hard. 4 questions. Pass/Fail meaning it doesn't take much to fail. Class average is like 50% which is a C. I went to each class, was part of a study group who went to see her during office hrs to get help. She seems like a very interesting person and the overall experience in her class was priceless. Thanks Dr. Davis!
Davis teaches fast-paced but includes a lot of helpful techniques. There are 6-10 test questions which are usually from lecture or homework. She gave bonus points for attending class after a hard test last semester. Very quirky and interesting person. I would take her class again.
Each test was 2-3 questions. The average on the final was a 30. No dropped tests. A large chunk of the class ended up below a C. No curves.
Pros: Minimal Textbook use and no "mandatory" homework. She assigns pages if you want extra practice and she has her own problems which you should definitely do because they are similar to what she puts on tests. Cons: Writes a lot and EXTREMELY fast! Tests are pretty fair- I went from a 58 to a 92 by the end of the year! She is a good teacher.
She goes through materials extremely fast, and sometime you are so busy writing down all her notes instead of listening to her. She is willing to answer your questions after class as long as you show her you tried the problems yourself! She DOES NOT teach according to the textbook! She uses different methods for cal compare to the text book.
moves really fast in lecture and homework isn't a grade so there's a lot of self accountability but she is helpful in office hours
Great teacher, she goes very fast, however, this is okay. You can easily find her notes online. She also gives out practice quizes online so you can practice them. And also practice tests. So you will never go into a test/quiz unready. Her tests are fair and has no tricks. Just do the practice material. I don't even ever do the hw, jus the practice
Textbook not required. I like the way the class is structured. It is extremely easy to prepare for her tests because they are similar to the practice problem she put up. Overall the class has a light workload. Also, good luck on reading her handwriting.
Overall she is not bad. She just does a few problems on the board and explains it while doing so. But you really have to pay attention in class to understand what she is doing. She is not a hard grader but expects you to show steps and be clear. Her exams were moderately difficult but not too bad. If you do the hw problems the exam is very similar
Professor Davis was great! She goes through her lectures rather quickly -- make sure to take notes. She provides you with all the information you need to study for her quizzes and exams. There's homework problems she recommends, but I never did them. I honestly looked forward to going to her class because her energy was lively. She's awesome :-)
Such a great professor! Made it interesting and didn't drag on. If you do the optional homeworks and pay attention in class, you'll do great on the tests and quizzes. She drops the lowest quiz if you have to miss one. She starts every class with an anime clip or something else awesome. She's hilarious and is a very fair grader.
The quiz topic each week is extremely predictable and is exactly like the practice ones available that week. You get to bring your own cheat sheet for each test which is amazing. The final is not cumulative and you get a cheat sheet for that too. Her lectures are cohesive and you can tell she prepares a lot. Loved the class
Great professor although she's a little eccentric. The tests and class workload was very fair. She does tend to write her notes very, very fast though so you definitely have to keep up.
Ms. Davis is a interesting person and teacher. Her handwriting can be illegible, and she does go very fast because the course requires a lot of material. All her tests were reasonable since the concepts are directly from the quizzes and homework. To get a good grade, simply study the quizzes and redo the questions, rinse and repeat this 4 time.
Kathy Davis is the best professor I've had at UT so far. Her grading is by far the best of all the calc teachers and she really wants to help you succeed. Tests are easy--just put all the example test questions on your cheat sheet. She drops one quiz, which are almost always similar to the practice/past quizzes. You must take this professor!
Davis is a great professor. You don't ever have to go to class, which is the best thing. Cheat sheet for all tests, final is not cumulative, and she has examples of previous tests and quizzes on her webpage. The worst part is her grading. On the third midterm, the average was extremely low cause she graded very harshly. Be careful on the tests!
Easiest class I've ever taken. She posts all of her old quizzes/exams online, just write those on your cheat sheet and you're golden. I had a 100 in this class.
Professor Davis is engaging! Super fast writing in lectures though, be prepared.
She's super funny and her lectures are clear and easy to follow. She makes it very easy to get an A in the class. If you practice the online "14U" problem sets and attend lectures, the tests and quizzes will be easy-peasy. For me, this class was around 5-6 hours of work per week including lectures. No graded homework.
Davis is by far the best 408D professor! She lets you use a cheat sheet on the exams and the reviews are super similar to the exams. Just be careful what you write as your work, she gets kinda picky about that stuff
Professor Davis is one of the best math professors at UT. She clearly states what you need to do to get an A in her syllabus. She assigns lots of homework that is not graded, so it is very beneficial to do those problems. Her lectures can be confusing, and her handwriting illegible, so I got lots of help from the TA. Overall, great class, and prof.
Take her class! She lets you have a cheat sheet for every exam and the final. Also, the final is not cumulative! She posts all her past quizzes and tests, so as long as you study those, you're good to go.
Kathy was fantastic! I was in the hospital for the first day of class, and I emailed her about missing the lecture. Her response was understanding and compassionate. She really cares. Additionally, Kathy is low key a badass and her lectures were always super interesting and hilarious. 11/10 would recommend.
She writes her notes very fast. It is hard to keep up in class because of her illegible handwriting. I never went to her class but I did all her problem sets online before exams and still made an A. Her exams are extremely easy! You should be fine :)
Cheat sheet on every exam including final, all with 3-5 questions, and with all previous exams online worked out, just write all of those on the sheet and you'll be sure to do great. I never went to class and ended up with a 99. Drops one quiz, get to know the TA and ask to work out an example question right before the quiz. Best class I've taken.
I didn't go to lecture for almost 8 weeks in a row at one point and I still got an A. 8 by 11 cheat sheet for each test, final isn't cumulative, biweekly quizzes (whatever you are quizzed on you aren't tested on.) Davis makes this class easy, no homework, just do the previous year tests/quizzes as examples and you'll be fine.
ENGR MAJORS, TAKE HER. She relates a LOT of examples to real-world applications and how math actually works in the engineering world. Proofs are confusing as usual(you don't need it for an A), but I still show up just for her amazing stories. ZERO work, EASY test, almost guaranteed A if you got 4/5 on BC. BEST CLASS YOU CAN EVER ASK FOR.
I absolutely love professor Davis, I'm in the middle of the semester right now but she is by far my favorite professor. Her lectures are entertaining and although you do have to write quickly to keep up, it's easy to follow. Quizzes and tests are exactly like the optional homework, if you prepare then it's easy to get an A.
She doesn't do anything herself to make sure you do well, but her class is so easy that if you try a little you'll be fine.
She's a great choice. If you can, take her! The class is based on how much studying you do outside of class. She applies math to the real world which is awesome. Go to class, study your notes, and do the practice problems online. I never used a textbook. Quizzes are pretty straightforward. Test questions are sometimes tricky, so review thoroughly.
Dr. Davis is a great professor. Your grade will depend on how much effort you put into this class because she does not grade any homework. She applies calculus to a lot of real life examples, especially in the medical and engineering fields. She is a great professor and I would highly recommend her class.
Oh Dr. Davis. What calculus professor respects the human capacity more. The only calculus professor where I can confidently say your grade reflects your organization and study time. She is an interesting woman whom I can never hope to truly understand. Very respectable, wild, and fair. Thank you Dr. Davis, thank you senpai.
Dr. Davis is hilarious, and a hardcore engineer. That fact made it hard for me to relate to her as a science major, but other students seemed to like it. As for the grading, there were 3 tests at 25% each and the other 25% was an average of 4-5 quizzes (one was optional). Does things differently and goes fast. Hard class, but I'm glad I had her.
This class was a pleasure to take. Davis is very clear about what she expects from her students and does not favor anyone. If she gives one student extra points, she will do so for all of her students. She drops one quiz grade and homework is not graded/necessary to do. If you get a 100 in the class (which is not too hard), you exempt the final
I will admit she knows her stuff, but she just did not click with me at all. Barely cared when i turned in my ssd letter. strict rules, but hates clarifying if you misheard the first time. HORRIFIC handwriting. Barely takes questions, never stops to ask if students are confused, just moves on and never turns around. I could barely hear her.
I was very put off initially by how quickly she moved through the material, but once I adjusted to it, Dr. Davis really grew on me. She is pretty engaging and really knows her stuff, and it was overall a good experience learning from her. TA sessions & practice help a lot in terms of understanding, but her lectures create a solid foundation.
Don't waste your time going to lectures, she doesn't care about teaching and she moves too fast/ writes too sloppy for anyone to understand what she's doing. TA's are also pretty lackluster, and I learned more from the online CalcLab than the lectures and discussion section combined. This was a sentiment reflected across my peers as well .
solid professor, but I would ONLY recommend taking her if you're confident in your calculus skills. This is an extremely easy class if you're already well-versed in integration and series. Don't make the same mistake I did and take the 408C credit without taking BC calculus, half of this class is BC material, I had to learn it all for first time
AWFUL TESTS, you get three questions total and they're harder that the problems done in class and the homework questions, so get ready for a curve ball. She's very sporadic in class, very entertaining and strange. The only good this was that I understood the technical applications to all the math we learnt.
This class was the easiest class I've ever taken. There are 5 quizzes (one drop), 2 tests & a final. She posts old exams and quizzes on her website and as long as you understand those you will do fine. You get to use a cheat sheet on her exams and can put whatever you want on it. IF you have a 100 average you don't have to take the final
Davis is awesome math lecturer because she gets right to the computation and skips the theory. She offers a lot of applications to the equations that she derives which is interesting. The grade is comprised of quizzes and exams: no graded homework. Exams and quizzes are easy if you work the problems and examples she provides on her website.
A nice thing about Davis is she curves the letter grading in the beginning of the year, so you know what to expect (88.6-89.4 is an A-). One kinda bad thing were the few things we were tested on. Each test (including the final, 3 total) has 3-4 questions, and there are 5 quizzes (one is dropped) with only one question. Kinda risky, but recommended.
She goes really fast so you kinda have to teach yourself on some topics, but her tests & quizzes are really easy if you know how to do the homework problems & the problems from her lectures. A 100 is not hard to get and you are exempt from the final if you have a 100.
Dr. Davis is eccentric, and very smart! If you have taken Calc B/C in high school, this is mostly a review, and her quizzes and tests were pretty easy. If you haven't, make sure you attend lecture, and everyone should do the homework for practice. She lets you use cheat sheets on her two exams and the final!
Solid choice for M408D if you are pretty independent and take initiative to do practice problems and take notes. Personally, I found the first half of the course was fairly easy. I don't think Davis was great at covering the second half of the material and she was not helpful during her OH. I would still recommend over other profs though.
The exams only have 3 questions, and some questions do not have partial credit. Tests are risky. Lecture is very boring, you need lots of practice after class. I think she is ruing the beauty of math.
Kathy is hilarious and so quirky. The class has no homework, but you have to do practice problems to survive the assessments. She has lots of resources on her website (many of which are EXACTLY like the quizzes). Tests/Quizzes are usually easier than the homeworks, but there are few problems on each. Definitely best choice for 408C and 408D
Kathy is a queen. She is so knowledgeable, and her lectures are brilliant. She almost always relates what she teaches back to real world applications, which makes the class a lot more meaningful. She posts practice exams and quizzes on her website that are very similar to our actual tests, making the course an easy A, if not an easy 100.
Great
Are you a pre-med UT student who needs cal credit? Stop what you're doing and take M408D with Davis. By far the easiest class I've taken. There are few grades, 2 exams, 3 quizzes, and the final, but, if you go to discussion and do practice problems you will probably end up with a 100. There's no homework. You get a cheat sheet for all exams too!
I took cal BC in high school and was okay at it. Most of the material is from BC with the exception of the cal 3 stuff. My advice: if you're decent at cal, go to discussion to practice with the TA, and before exams, fill you're cheat sheet up with practice problems because some might end up on the exam. This happened to me twice.
This class is hard! You must know the material completely for the exam as the questions will be much harder than any lecture or homework questions provided! On that note, you do get to bring in a sheet of paper with notes for each exam... Just make sure that you stay on top of the material.
Dr Davis is like a Mcdonalds ad. Having basically no homework and a chance to exempt the final seems like a wonder just like those ideal burgers you see on those Mcdonald's ads with "fresh" ingredients. However, the burger you buy is the reality you see. Her handwriting is illegible; she is very inflexible with other work that doesn't resemble hers
Davis appears to be the clear choice for calc 2 when looking at rate my professor, but this semester has proved otherwise for me and almost everyone I know taking this class. Illegible handwriting, lack of office hours, poor teaching of the second unit, and a general hatred towards questions makes her a professor I would love to never have again.
She posts notes on how to work problems online (somewhat bad handwriting though). HW and attending TA discussion is optional, but I strongly recommend both because they make sure you actually understand the material so you don't get bodied if Davis throws a conceptual curveball at you on an exam. Put in the work and get the A, simple as that.
Each quiz was only 1 question. Tests are 3 questions and you get an 8x11 cheat sheet to write formulas and examples. No final just a 4th test. Going to class isn't mandatory, but I would advise to attend TA sessions bc they go over what's on the quiz/test. HW not required, do it as practice. She uploads past exams/quizes with answers to practice.
Katherine Davis is a solid choice for M408D. She provides clear instructions in what she expects from you in quizzes and exams. The quizzes are composed of one free response and the exams are composed of three free response questions. If you attend lectures and complete the HW before the quizzes or exam you can earn an A.
Got 100 in every quiz, test 1 and final. Since I missed one question and a half on exam 2 (3 questions per exam), I got a 50 on it and got a B on the course. Think about this. 1 and a half questions and you get a B. Yeah amazing grading criteria for sure.
Davis is an interesting choice for 408D. Pros: No Homework, Lots of practice problems, 3 questions on exams(good if u know everything), relates everything done in class to real world application, possible exemption from final Cons: 3 questions on exam (Miss one it can hurt a lot),illegible handwriting, FAST lectures, pulls tricks occasionally,
I could barely hear her lecture, and her handwriting was so hard to read. She wouldn't answer like 50% of the questions that were asked during class and mocked students that came to office hours. She only has 1 question per quiz and 3 questions per test, so messing up can be devastating to your grade. Although, she's easier than other 408D profs.
She posts homework online, and you'll be only graded on quizzes and 3 mid-terms. Questions are like of 35-35-30 points on the midterms and 100 point quizzes. You have to show work according to what she taught during lectures, so get ready to take notes. If you use a different method, get ready to be penalized heavily. Work the online HWs!
Lets you use a cheat sheet for every exam and the final is optional if you get a 100 on everything I think. Has some interesting stories about things she has worked on including some secret government stuff. Also plays anime before class most Fridays.
I like her as a person but not as a professor. If you're confident in your calc skills, I would take her, if not, DON'T. This semester, there were so many people I knew that failed this class. She does give partial credit, but she's a tough grader and takes off unnecessary points which is a problem in a class with so little grades.
Don't like this professor as a person, I was not treated kindly/respectfully when visiting her in office hours. She lectures too fast and doesn't explain anything. She speaks quietly and towards the whiteboard. She absolutely does not bump. No exceptions. Would take again because her quizzes and exams and similar to her examples during lecture.
Kathy is an enigma. Although she is the easiest professor for M408D, she is still not a good professor. Her lectures go very quickly, and most of the time you won't know what is going on. You are graded throughout the semester between 14 questions (3 on 3 tests, 5 quizzes) so it is very easy to have a bad day and mess up your whole grade.
Pros: no homework, attendance wasn't mandatory, quizzes & exams were almost identical to the ones posted on her website, cheat sheets on the exams & final, and w/ Calculus background, it was an EXTREMELY easy class Cons: illegible handwriting, mumbles in class, very few questions on quizzes & exams (1-3), goes off on tangents during lectures
Her class definitely got harder this semester. Based off the old exam questions she would give us, the actual exams were much more difficult (esp the final). If you're looking to learn during lecture, this is not the class for you. I definitely found myself scribbling down all of the jargon she'd write on the board and having to self-teach.
Davis's course starts out easy and straightforward, however, she tends to blindside you with nearly impossible questions on exams/quizzes which will destroy your grade (e.g. horrible final exam). She expects you to do calc EXACTLY her way or you will receive no credit. Davis doesn't like questions and grades without mercy. Good teacher though.
She does NOT CARE at all, she's rude and doesn't help, the tests are based off of the copious amounts of lecture notes but she goes so fast that you're never able to keep up and if you ask her about it, she just says that it was in the notes. Doesn't answer any questions and will give you a 0 on the exam if the method is different than the notes
she was really rude whenever i would go to office hours and ask for help. very condescending. don't take this class.
Kathy is super funny, and if you go to discussion section and thoroughly do all her practice problems and homework there's no reason you shouldn't get an A! She drops the lowest quiz and if you get all 100s you can exempt the final :)
Professor Davis can be a bit condescending at times. Her class isn't hard but I just never felt like she wanted us to learn. You can barely hear her when she speaks and she isn't very receptive to questions and sometimes gives condescending answers to student's questions. If you can bear through it, the content itself isn't too hard.
Teaches lectures with fun examples and is pretty funny if you share her sense of humour. Homework is not required and oftentimes you don't even really need it. TA sessions are pretty slow, but can be helpful if you don't understand.
Solid choice for 408D if you want to take calc at UT minus unnecessary stress. She goes through material really fast and can be hard to hear, so sit closer if you need to. The 3 free response exams are similar to her worked examples which are posted on the class website. Use them as a guide for work to show (very important).
She is pretty funny and obviously very smart. Her lectures are hard to hear if you sit in the back. This class is relatively easy if you have already taken BC, but if everything is new, expect to study more. My main issue with this class was that it was graded on only 14 questions: 5 1 question quizzes and 3 3 question exams. Also, NO HOMEWORK!
If you're comfortable w learning the material on your own, this class is a breeze. I frequently skipped lecture and just did the 14Us and the sample quizzes/exams on my own and ended up with an A. However, no room for mistakes! Class is graded on 5 quiz questions and 9 test questions total. Davis can be pretty unhelpful when it comes to questions.
I had an amazing AP BC Calc teacher in HS and Im very confident with math. The material was only fine because I knew everything but let me tell you she wants the work her way or highway so having to learn how to do math a different way than what Im comfortable with was v hard. She grades on 1Q quizzes & 2Q midterms/finals. Shes also rlly rude!
If you are confident in your ability to learn calculus on your own, this class can be good. If not, avoid it if possible. Questions will not be answered other than with a, "Look at the notes." Lectures are fast, her handwriting is hard to read, and she speaks toward the whiteboard. The grading scheme is also horrendous, so be careful.
I loved Dr Davis <3. She somehow made math lectures interesting. The class is grading on quizzes every other week and a test and final, the quizzes are one question and the test was 3, my final was just a quiz 8 bc of Corona. The topic of the one question in each case is well defined and its easy to prepare if you take good notes during lecture.
Kathy Davis lectures at a lightning fast pace. Unfortunately, her hand writing is messy and it can be difficult to hear her on the microphone. None of the homework is required, but it is best to look at it and learn her method, since she grades the tests based on whether or not you solved it the way she wanted.
If you took Calc BC in HS, this is an easy A. Classes aren't really necessary unless examples help you. Half the time she goes on tangents and half the time she's too fast and quiet to understand. Go to TA sessions!! The examples they give you are very similar to test/quiz questions. Txtbk and HWs are largely unnecessary.
I love professor Davis! She is funny and her lectures contain a lot of real life examples which makes the lessons very interesting. She does have an unusual teaching style which you have to follow or you receive no credit but if you have some type of prior knowledge in calculus (AP cal AB and B) and do all the hw , the class is an easy A.
worst professor in my life, no lectures. gives u pdf to study. where did all my tuition go ????????
(Note: This is a review of the online class) Prof Davis has a well-organized class, but to do well, you must take the initiative. All lectures are PDFs we need to read, and a couple of practice problems are provided that accompany each lecture. The only grades are one-question quizzes. TA sessions are also provided who work out example problems.
COVID Davis: - teach-by-PDF (no lecture), be comfortable with self-learning - the entirety of the class is 8 quizzes, 1 problem each. She can grade **extremely** picky on these, so you'll have to be very careful - good feedback to piazza questions/email TLDR take if you already know the material or want to skim by, don't take for actual knowledge.
High risk, high reward. There are no midterms, finals, or homework grades taken in this class. Only 8 one question quizzes. I read almost no lectures (which are pdfs) except the day before a quiz. Take M 408D with Kathy if you're willing to take the risk, and reap the benefits of no midterms, exams, or final.
(for my COIVD semester) ALL course content besides discussion sections were PDF lectures. Grade was based on 8 free response quizzes, but no curveballs and were relatively easy. DONT BUY THE BOOK. Kathy is a little intimidating but really smart. Good for self-motivated people good at math who don't need to continue calculus & can teach themselves.
Davis chose not to teach this semester. Instead, we got PDFs. Inadequate material for TAs. 8 quizzes, 100% of the grade. If you don't do it almost exactly her way, you lose all the points for that part of the question. She's mean when she answers questions, if you're lucky enough to get an answer at all. Pick any other professor.
So because I was apart of Prof. Davis' online class, we had to learn based on her PDF lectures, which wasn't ideal for me, but it was manageable. Your grade is based on 7 out of 8 quizzes, each with 1 question. I personally understood the content well enough to do well on her quizzes, however. I do wish we could've met Prof. Davis...
Professor Davis did not offer office hours and the TA could not answer many of our questions. She shares her lessons as PDF notes, with many unnecessary historical examples that clutter the page. This was difficult to learn from. The textbook is never used- DO NOT BUY IT. Although I hated the class, she grades the easiest of all M408D professors.
Dont take this class. At first she seems like a friendly grandma who is cool and likes anime but no... She is rude, extremely condescending, and confusing. Lectures are PDFs plagued by many mistakes and messy handwriting. Quizzes are a single question and she wants everything done her way. Maybe her in person classes are better? But nah avoid her
8 quizzes which are almost the exact same thing as the practice ones but with different numbers. Everything that you need is on the lecture pdfs but if you need more help, Organic Chem Tutor on youtube is clutch. Literally the easiest calc class if you have any prior experience.
Easy A. Graded by 8 quizzes, one is dropped. They're easy but high stakes - if you don't get an A on a quiz you'll usually get a failing grade on it. No live lectures, never saw her face, pretty sure she didn't have office hours either. The "lectures" are PDFs, but they are understandable and sometimes interesting. You probably won't learn calc.
The worst experience I've ever had in a math class, which sucks because I love math. Lectures were just text-heavy PDFs, I managed with them but if you don't like math they're awful. She is unforgiving, mean to people who ask questions, and doesn't seem to care about her students. Grades are based on just 8 quizzes. Pick a different professor.
Great professor if you have a solid foundation in calculus. Her class was mostly asynchronous, and although the class was taught entirely through PDF lectures, they were pretty easy to understand. She tells you what will be tested on quizzes and gives you solutions to past ones, so it's not too difficult to do well in the class.
Lectures are PDF, so it's hard to learn the material, but it very easy to get an A in class. 8 quizzes for the year, 1 drop. Quizzes must be in her methods, so you can't look up answers or use online calculators. All in all: if you want an A, take Davis. If you want to learn the material, find another teacher.
I think she's retiring, so does it really matter? Either way -- all lectures were PDFs, they can be difficult to understand and have errors in them that even the TA couldn't figure out. TAs were the real gem in this class, professor really did not teach at all. She can be kind, but has her rude moments. Easy A, but you won't learn anything.
Dr. Davis's class was a mess. There were no lectures, live or recorded. The only material she provided was her own textbook that was chock-full of typos and even the occasional math error. When asked if she would lecture on Zoom, she reply was essentially, "no, if you want to know why not, I dare you to ask." Super condescending. You won't learn.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. Got upset when students would ask questions, went off on random tangents during class, learned more during TA office hours. Avoid Davis
When I took this class in 1981 her section was the only section and the expectation was that everyone in the class was a genius. So if you were, her approach to teaching made one even more capable of solving really hard problems -- which was the whole point. It was assumed you groked calculus already. Dr. Davis had a lasting impact on my life.
