The grading scale makes it almost impossible to get an A. Its 93 or above, and there are only 4 tests, all multiple choice and no hw grade to boost it up. So basically you can only miss 2 questions per test. She is also obsessed with breastmilk and it gets annoying.

She says that you have to learn 65% of the material. It really is 100% b/c her lectures are****, she talks about **** and breatfeeding and her time in Mali. She purposfully made second exam harder b/c the majority of the class did well on the 1st one. This is an easy class but she does not want you to do well, she likes to give C's.

I really enjoyed taking this class for breadth. The material is really interesting and useful in real life. You need to make sure that you read everything that is assigned- it's all fair game on the test. Must go to class. Yes, Dr. D is opinionated, but all of it is based on science. I would definitely recommend this class to a friend!

You think taking an anthropology 101 class is going to be easy? Think again. It's an intro course that she takes entirely too seriously. You get 3 exams and a final. Each exam she gives you study guides for each chapter that you can fill out and feel good about, BUT she doesn't use ANY questions from them. Don't take her. Horrible class. 0/10

Dettwyler is definitely blunt and holds strong to her opinions. As long as you can get past that it's an extremely easy class. There are 3 exams and 1 final that is not cumulative. All the information needed is right in the slides or the readings she assigns. Don't bother buying the books, she goes over everything in lecture. Extra credit too.

Professor Dettwyler is extremely strict and rude. She thinks she created Anthropology and hates America and US ways. She wrote her own book and all her test are completely based off that. She won't give any extra points, not even a .5 if it wasn't a difference between a letter grade. She's horrible and obnoxious. Don't take her

Dr Dettwyler is very opinionated and can be perceived as rude. Loves talking about her trip to west Africa, which you may realize is the weirdest place ever. Honestly she's not bad; read the textbook in its entirety (which she wrote) and you will be fine for the tests. Very very interesting class, opened my eyes to the world

Most of her tests are based off of readings. When in doubt, if it sounds like an answer she would say, then go with it rather than your own. If you have questions on an exam, do not hesitate to ask her for help, in some instances, she will almost give you the answer. Also there are ec movies, and ec days just to appear,Read the books once at least.

DO NOT TAKE. Especially for breadth. She's extremely rude and the tests are insanely hard. Its every format you could think of all on one test. She reads right off the powerpoint but attendance is mandatory. Will take an entire lecture to tell us why we shouldn't get a point back that EVERYONE got wrong. Always very detailed questions on exams.

Easily the rudest professor I have had at UD. I would never recommend this to anyone as a breadth fulfillment. I'm getting by fine doing minimal reading but the amount of work expected is way too high for a 100 level class. Not to mention you are expected to spend at least 5 hours outside of the class at random times for "homework" activities...

She is very opinionated and blunt, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. She knows her stuff. You have to do 5 outside of the classroom activities, like attend lectures, or write a quick one page paper on some short video throughout the semester. She has two books you can skim through and the tests are straight from her power points.

Can't rely on just her lectures and slides. Her exams involve very small details from the textbook, which she wrote herself. It's her opinion or no opinion and she won't be afraid to express it even if it may offend half the class. Lectures can be long and boring. Not very helpful and will give you attitude if you ask certain questions.

Dettwyler is very hard for an intro class. I recommend not taking her for anything. Her tests are solely based off her textbook, and there are so many little details that you need to know from the textbook. I don't think ive studied for an exam more and I got an 81. Don't take this class, there are no notes or references online either.

She is really good at going over the readings she assigns. Pay attention to what she goes over because it is what she tests on. Tests are straight forward and not super stressful. The answers are VERY obvious if you pay attention!! If you need help talk to her. She gives a good amount of extra credit!!!

Im genuinely surprised for someone who has a PHD ruined her career by making snide remarks over the death of a young man. Only here after the fallout of her comments. Im not surprised by the student's reviews after reading what she said about the boy.
