Great professor. Uses slideshows, videos, pics in her lectures. Most definitely knows her history, and is passionate for it. She gives good feedback, much extra credit. This is a writing class, though. No multiple choice. Class choses test topics. She picks ten, we write five. One essay. Four tests. 4 writing assignments. Would take again.
Helps you when you do not understand. Study notes and read occasionally and listen to lectures. Not mandatory attendance, but might miss something if you skip. Only four test and four writing assignments. Grades test easier than the writing assignments. She uses power points and lecture same time, videos, and pics too teach.
Best professor I had my freshman. She's a very good teacher and her class is easy. Test are easy and fairly short. Overall best professor EVER !
Great Professor, she always helps me with my work. All written tests. She GIVES you the test questions the class before the test.
She is an awesome professor. Take her if you can!!!
I would recommend her! Great professor! Easy professor and she makes her lectures interesting. She helped me a lot.
All exams are written (4) making them very easy. you'll never get below a 4050 on a quiz if you at least attempt
Gaskamp was awesome. Managed to keep history interesting with her modern lectures (often inserted hilarious youtube videos relevant to the topic). There is quite a bit of writing, but the assignment is always clear. The class before the test she lets the students decide which relevant points go on the test so you know exactly what to study.
Professor G was the best EVER. She's an awesome teacher and her course is really easy if you pay attention to her power points. Test are written, but they are really easy. Gives a lot of extra credit and overall BEST class I took my freshman year!
She is so wonderful! She makes lectures interesting and fun to attend! However her exams are short answers and essays, so if you like bubble in ones then maybe not.
Greatest teacher ever... took both semester got All A', your guaranteed a B... guaranteed an A if yu go to class.
Gaskamp is a great teacher. She gets you really involved in the lectures. Get her as a professor. You won't regret it!!! She's amazing but if your a stickler about a few F bombs then find you another professor!
She's wonderful. She gets very into her lectures and really gets you to care about the content. The tests are made in class by the class. She's very nice and cool. (And super cute)
People seem to really enjoy taking her class. I didn't mind it, but I wasn't blown away by Gaskamp's teaching style. She shows A LOT of barely relevant youtube videos to try and make the class interesting. She's a tough grader, especially on tests, they are all short answer and essays. She takes points off for "vagueness". I wouldn't take her again
Definitely the absolute best professor I've ever had. She makes EVERYTHING interesting. Never thought I would enjoy learning about History. She's very funny and shows comedic-historical videos in class to keep things interesting. Plan on taking her again for 1302.
Easiest class ever!!! slept though every lecture and passed with flying colors
Awesome professor! I'm taking her next semester just because I loved her class so much.
AWESOME TEACHER! Her exams are not that hard and she s very helpful. she will try to help you as much as she can to pass her class. very nice teacher. I took 2 classes with her. I wish she teaches more classes
LOVED THIS CLASS! I was so nervous about this class but Gaskamp made it SO fun! The tests are all short answer and essay but don't let that scare you. She gives you the terms and essay options before the test so you can be prepared. Amazing professor who loves what she does and it shows. She made me excited about history! Forever grateful!
She is amazing! She is definitely willing to work with you and gives a lot of extra credit throughout the course. There is 4 writing assignments and the tests are all short answer and essay but they are easy! You make the test review the day before the test. There is not a lot of reading at all. She makes the course entertaining and enjoyable!
All assignments and exams are essay/short answer response but EXTREMELY easy. Funny/engaging lectures. If you don't like cussing don't take her. There to help you whenever. Gives 100 points worth of extra credit & cancels class a few times! Totally recommend. (Only negative is she says "Ultimately" 100x a lecture, super annoying)
She is absolutely amazing! Straight to the point and a lot of fun. Work is easy but youll learn a lot.
For the most part, I enjoyed her class and appreciate the way she delivered the material. Sometimes I think she sacrifices historical accuracy for sensationalism . I, however, have come to appreciate her new generation way of teaching history, and would recommend her. No textbook is great too.
she's awesome and really gets into her lectures. you take notes form PowerPoints but gives them to you for test reviewing . she just told me future classes with have take home tests ( after our class did so well on them) so that's awesome. not a hard class, really cool info and she's funny/has no filter
I loved her class!! Definitely would take her again! Class was enjoyable! TAKE HER CLASS!!! A little slow on the grades but still worth it!!!
This is my second time taking her and I would take her again and again if I could! She makes class exciting with her amazing lectures. She's really passionate about the subject and you can't help be pay attention. There is a lot of writing; tests and free response and writing assignments. She takes a little bit to grade but is not tough! TAKE HER
I enjoyed the class. However, i'm a little confused why she thought assigning three papers was a good idea for a final.
Professor Gaskamp is an amazing educator. I don't usually like history, but she made it extremely enjoyable. She is pretty lax when it comes to certain things, but she does expect effort. If you're not big into essays, I would not take her, but I love them, so I liked that part of her course. There's extra credit available. She's great.
Professor Gaskamp was one of the best professors I have ever had. Her passion for history makes class enjoyable and fun to be in. Everything is writing, including tests and essays, but they are not hard at all and the students get to make the tests. Gives so much extra credit opportunity that I did not even have to take the final exam.
Dr. Gaskamp is hands down the best history professor I have ever had. She makes the course extremely enjoyable. This is writing class though, 3 essays, and written exams. Do not let this scare you, they are extremely easy! She also gives A LOT of extra credit.
4 tests, class decides what is on them. 10 quizzes, gives questions in advance. 3 (750 word) Writing assignments, Extra credit, free online textbook, hilarious and doesn't whitewash history. Seriously a fun class and was my favorite. Trust me, go register for this class now, I can't imagine anyone being better(Mild vulgar language though)
Awesome teacher. Genuinely enjoys teaching what she teaches, and making learning history fun. It is possible to get a bad grade, but only if you're pure lazy and don't show up to class. If you show up, do the assignments, and do the extra credit you'll do great in this class.
I truly admire Professor Gaskamp. If I had the opportunity of taking her again, I would; no matter the course. She is lecture-heavy, therefore, you don't want to miss class. There are about 3 tests and some essays due for her class. Gaskamp offers much help outside of the classroom and wants each student to take advantage of their resources.
The exams are take home essays that take a few hours to complete. There are in class activities that you can participate in to receive points, and if you receive enough, you can replace one of your lowest test scores. There is extra credit available. Not for anyone who is offended by cussing.
Mrs. Gaskamp was a interesting history story teller. Can be described as unconventional. Not boring to listen to. Played funny videos. Online exams consisting of short answer and an essay. Drops the lowest test grade. Some group activities which was annoying. Plenty of extra credit. No book require, she provides a free one. Take her.
Professor Gaslamp is so passionate about what she teaches. She is really funny, knows her material, and makes class interesting by showing videos. Her class is filled with laughter and she is willing to work with you. You can make the worst test grades, but thanks to the good amount of extra credit she gives, you will be able to make an A. TAKE HER
Mrs. Gaskamp is a wonderful professor. I enjoy how she teaches history. She constantly sends a message to her students to look at both sides of the story to prevent being bias. Tons of people out there are bias, so I respect how wants her students to be well-educated about historical and political subject matters and apply it to the real world.
Professor Gaskamp is awesome. She's nice, funny, and we watch funny videos in class. Only thing I would complain about is she's kind of slow about grading things. All else, she is great
If you go to class and participate you will be just fine.
Professor Gaskamp is awesome! She gives lots of extra credit and she gives great lectures! We do some group work and she gives us weekly microthemes to do. NO exams! She does cuss a lot so if you don't like that, do not take her!
Professor Gaskamp is awesome and hilarious! She gives us weekly microthemes which are very easy and her lectures are great! She loves what she does and wants everyone to pass! Plus, LOTS of extra credit!
The very first day we found out she doesn't take attendance then we found out she doesn't have exams just weekly short essays and you have all week to complete them so that's easy. The best part of taking her is that there are 14 weekly essays and she drops the lowest 6!! She's awesome and gives extra credit as well. Take her if you want an easy A.
She's one of the best professors on campus!! Very informed and has amazing lectures! She really makes learning fun and definitely makes the course interesting! She has an awesome personality and didn't have a final exam. Great teacher and an even better person!
This is my second time taking her. She gives the most interesting lectures ever! I am not a fan of History, but she made me love it. She is very passionate about what she teaches. She shows videos in every class, and they're the funniest, especially drunk History videos. She has weekly essays, double spaced 400 words. It isn't bad, and gives credit
1 page paper a week, shows many funny videos via youtube, textbook is online and provided for free. You won't be able to do the papers if you don't show up to class and listen to the lectures, but she also shows powerpoints during lec. and she posts them for you to use, sometimes your papers can be pulled out of these powerpoints.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! so easy to communicate with and lectures are so much fun ! easy weekly essays and 2 test plus a book review but all very easy and she explains everything
she is amazing she is an amazing lecturer. she does talk almost the whole time so don't expect to leave early but she does break it down with funny history videos. she has no tests only take home midterm and final. every week she assigns a little essay and by the 3rd one they can be done in half an hour definitely take her
Great professor And Good Lectures. One Page Papers Due Every Sunday Of The Semester, But Is Willing To Help Within Office Hours And Through Email. The Essays Are based On The Lectures So You Will Fail If You Don't Go. Major Project Due At End Of Semester. Easy Mid-Term And Final, But A Lot Of Work.
Professor Gaskamp is a great professor she really cares about her students. She is easy to talk to and responds quickly to emails. she is also is willing to help you out when you need it. Textbook was online and free.
Very knowledgeable about history and keeps class interesting. Uses funny anecdotes in her lectures to relate back to material, which makes things easier to remember. Likes to get to know students on a personal level and is very caring as a person. Highly recommended and overall great class!
Very cool teacher and she is very into what she studies. I liked how her class was laid back.
The class overall was a pretty solid choice. Shes a good teacher just not really my style. Grading took some time but other than that shes great overall.
Very nice and caring about what she teaches. Her lectures are exciting and fun to listen to. Two exams that are take home, an easy book report, and very easy every week one page papers on the previous weeks lecture. Very easy work. She grades fair and the weekly assignments help boost your grade. What she says in lecture can be used on the paper.
Awesome professor, she makes the lectures entertaining since they are mandatory unless you wanna miss a pop quiz. Very caring about her students and how they do in the class, and gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. No excuse to not get a good grade in class!! Take notes helps a lot when it comes to tests!
Professor Gaskamp is amazing! I took her online History class & it was by far my favorite class of the semester. She keeps the schedule the same through the semester & gives 2 tests w 5 short answer and 1 essay. She also offers several EC opportunities which you should take advantage of. The textbook is free OL. Overall she is great 10/10 would rec
Super easy class. Attendance is not mandatory and textbook is a free online book. She is really passionate about her job and gives great lectures. 10/10 recommend her!!!
Gaskamp is a pretty good teacher if youre good at history, but dont get too overconfident because she takes history very seriously (which is great) the majority of the grades are quizzes which happen either in class or online, she usually doesnt say before hand so show up just in case. Shes a good teacher if you like history!
Hist 1301 was an easy course for the most part. She tries to make it as interesting as possible but is a tough grader in the weekly quizzes and unit test (she will fail you if you bs your assignments). As long as you do your work you will pass.
She is one of the best history teacher that I have ever met. She teaches her lessons with a very funny way. You should attend classes she askes questions about what she had discussed in class so they are pretty easy. Yes, the class sometimes might be tedious but it worths.
She is awesome! One of the nicest people I've met. She's very caring and always available. There are quizzes every week but those are fairly easy. Textbook is online and it's free. 2 book reviews which are not hard. Show up to class, act like you care, pay attention, be engaged, and you will do fine.
Great teacher!! She loves history so shes very into her lectures. You have 15 quizzes, one every week but she gets rid of the lowest 3. Essay heavy in her class but if you study beforehand you'll do fine. She understands that some people are good at writing and some aren't which is why she does essays and quizzes. Easy grader. Great teacher.
Professor Gaskamp is so amazing. I love her! Free online textbook, she is so funny and makes everything interesting. Show up, listen and you'll be fine. 15 quizzes (drops lowest 3) 2 book reviews (so easy) a midterm (essay style) and optional final. I would definitely take her again! history can be kinda confusing/boring but she makes it so fun!
AMAZING professor. She uses a free online textbook so you don't have to buy a physical one. If you do or don't like history, TAKE HER. She makes everything interesting, the homework is minimal and fairly easy, and she'll work with you on missing class and whatnot. I would take her over and over if I could. HIGHLY recommend Katherine Gaskamp
Best Professor Hands Down... You learn a lot while she teaches with a story telling style. The class is fun and you will finish with a nice grade if you do your assignments.
Professor G was amazing. I hate history but her lectures were fun. Attendance isnt mandatory but there is a quiz each week on a random day that she doesnt tell you so you should go. Quizzes are easy. There are 2 book reports and 2 tests, both are easy to get an A. She offered extra credit through a museum visit (with proof). Great prof!
i would 11/10 recommend prof g to anyone who wants a class that is easy and entertaining. attendance isn't mandatory but i show up just because of how fun she makes learning. the textbook she has us use is online for free and the quizzes are SO easy if you just do the work. she is SUCH a gem <3
Take HER!!!! She doesnt give ANY tests!!! She cares about her students and wants them to succeed! There are 15 quizzes, and 2 book reports, but its super straight forward! Just do the work and youll do great!
Such an easy class! Honestly you could not show up to class and still pass because all assignments are posted online. You have a quiz every week that's due on Sunday but they are super easy if you read carefully.
The best Professor! There is a free online textbook she uses. She gives a lot of extra credit, plus if you go to class you will also get class participation points. There is a quiz due every Sunday and no exams. There is two research projects that you will complete throughout the semester, but she breaks everything down to make it easy.
She is a great professor. Very helpful and very willing to help.
Took this class online. You have 8 DB (500 words) and 13 PSQ and a paper to write for your final all due on Sunday 11:59. Class wasn't hard just was a lot of work for a history class.
I LOVE PROF G!!!! Take her if her class is available!!! You do have hw every week but its easy & you have to write a lot of essays too. Effortless A
Decent class. Professor makes you do an annotated bibliography which is excruciating. Weekly homework. No textbook required, she provides.
Took online A LOT of work for a class that is suppose to be a blow off class. You will be doing 15 PSQ, 6 DB, and a research paper as your final. Everything is due weekly every Sunday at 11:59. She grades like an English teacher.
she's pretty cool, primary source analysis homework every week but i basically wrote garbage and she'd still give me 100. she talks slow and sounds a little patronizing. 2 book reviews that you could easily ace. she's nice and pretty lenient. i'd take her again! also text book is online and free
100% RECOMMENDED! I do not like history and she made it very doable. She is very understanding. NO test. Every week there is at least one discussion and most weeks there is a DB also. Only two projects which were very doable. One of the best professors I've had.
Okay so get ready to read a lot there is 2 essays 14 assignments and 8-9 discussions I love her and her class it was formative like u learn things and she is so encouraging TAKE HER ITS WORTH IT
Professor Gaskamp is AMAZING!! she gives great feedback on EVERY assignment, and is very encouraging. You have like 1 easy assignment a week and discussions thrown in here and there. it's an easy A. Highly recommend you wont regret it!!
I wish I could give Professor G more than just three tags. 100% best professor. She truly cares for her students and just wants you to succeed. Free online textbook. No exams, only two simple book projects, and some discussion boards every now and then. You will have weekly homework that is due on Sundays but they are fairly simple.
Professor Gaskamp is very understanding with her students. I had an issue with Blackboard to where none of my assignments would submit, and she graded them at no penalty. Get ready to answer a lot of questions on her hw, and write in APA. Manageable work load, but definitely not the lightest. Do your work and you'll pass
She is amazing, I will be taking HIS1302 with her online. All weekly work due on Sundays which are easy assignments. She will email you back within minutes if not the next day. One paper due as final but she will help you get it done and give you feedback throughout the entire process. Attendance is not mandatory which I still made an A.
At first it was an easy A class and everything was exactly what the other reviews claim, but all of the sudden out of nowhere she gets very picky and loved to take 13 points off for random things. She also takes over a month to grade so beware.
Weekly assignments, either a quiz or a discussion board due Sunday. They are all straightforward and over readings. People tended to complain about her taking points off their writings, but it's because they didn't know how to use punctuation or correct grammar. Very easy if you can give semi-good analyses. Only two essays the whole semester.
Professor Gaskamp was an amazing professor. Her lectures were interesting. Attendance is not mandatory, but she offers lots of extra credit if you show up to class. She gives weekly homework assignments and 2 DB throughout the semester (15 total) all due Sunday, and one research paper. As long as you keep up with the work it's an easy A!
Professor Gaskamp is super funny and truly passionate about what she teaches- which makes her lectures interesting and upbeat. The class itself is easy to comprehend, but the very homework heavy. Youll have a weekly quiz that takes around an hour to complete and a 7-10 page final paper. However, if you manage your time, youll get an A
Really passionate about what she does and helping students. But expects everyone to have the same level of passion for history.
class is not hard but she will let you know if you are going to put yourself in a situation to hurt yourself. just do the work and youre fine
She is a tough grader. She gives assignments and quizzes due every Sunday; it is a lot of work but simple. Don't start your work at the last minute. She is very picky about how you answer the questions even if it's your opinion. Overall, she is a nice and very understanding professor. Don't be afraid to email her if you have any questions.
There r DBs/quizzes every week, open Monday and close Sunday. Provides reading. Clear instructions. Quizzes and DBs take 1-3 hrs depending on what she assigns. 2 research essays to replace the final. Takes a while to grade. Gives feedback and is easy to contact. Don't procrastinate and you will get an A.
Just do not waste your time on assignments. There is a little bit of a workload each week but I was always able to knock it out in an hour or two. There are no tests, just discussion boards and "Quizzes" but it is just a word doc with questions and you reply. Two major essays but they were not hard. She gives really good feedback! She is amazing!
Prof. Gaskamp was amazing. She brought in amazing outside sources and really created an eviroment geared towards telling the history and the plight of the natives as well as enslaved peoples. Be prepared to write. However, this is what makes this class so great. This class is all writing. Also be prepared to use the Chicago Manual Style.
Professor Gaskamp was an amazing instructor. She makes her history lectures interesting every week and responds to emails fast. This class was writing heavy but it is doable as long as you try she gives helpful feedback on each assignment. I have taken her for 1301 and 1302 and really liked Professor Gaskamp!
Excellent professor! She gives extra credits and provides feedback for each assignment. Do all your work to get enough points to get an A. Send her a email or ask for a zoom meeting if you need help. Don't do your assignments at the last minute. There is a lot of reading, but the questions she provides are easy. Good luck!
This class was easy to work with the assignments given and my schedule, but there is a bit of reading every week, but it all can be done in an hour or so. There were 2 bibliography essays, but the 2nd one was optional especially if you have a high grade or are comfortable with skipping the assignment.
She is AMAZING! Very understaning and helpful. I learned some much information from this class.
Professor Gaskamp is a wonderful professor, but the work load is so heavy! There is a ton of reading and the "quizzes" that we have every week aren't what you'd expect. It's a lot of writing coupled with the reading she assigns every week. It's overkill for students like me who just need the class to graduate.
An amazing professor! She is very considerate and mindful of her students. The course load is kind of heavy but just get it done and you'll be alright.
I wouldnt say attendance is mandatory but she does these in-class assignments, randomly, youre only allowed to do in class, so you should really go. The conent itself is easy, and she makes it interesting, theres a quiz open the first class until sunday every week but no exams! 7 page paper due by end of semester but can exempt if you have an A
Professor Gaskamp is passionate about historical topics sometimes to the point of anger. She does provide extra credit throughout the course. I would not take her again because she sometimes cusses which makes it difficult to pay attention to the facts of history.
Took Professor Gaskamp for my HIST1301 course online, and she was absolutely amazing. Her passion for history truly shows with all of the modules she assigns. Some things that you do have to keep in mind are that these modules have quizzes that are relatively reading-heavy. Other than that the class and the prof are so amazing and pretty easy.
Very nice grader and most of the material covered can be located in Blackboard. Her assignments are pretty tedious but not difficult at all. You are given a week to complete them and rather than exams, there is a PowerPoint project that counts as your final. You'll gradually research more and more stuff about your final topic but it's pretty simple
The biggest issue comes down to the fact that she assigns so many things and takes forever to give grades back. At points she will then push back due dates which are good for the slackers in class but those who did the work now crammed that work in for no reason. Her grading is somewhat okay, she does knock points off for no reason.
Prof. Gaskamp is a great teacher. Im normally bad at history but the way she lectures makes it feel so easy. She assigns quite a bit of work, but if you sit down and get it done its easy. No tests, but a research project spanning the whole semester which she breaks down into easy parts.
I loved her class. She was clear from the first day on how the grading is done and whats expected of you. To get an A in this class, you just need to do the work and put in effort. Do not turn anything in late, and you'll also be fine. I would recommend her to anyone; she's amazing!!
i went the whole semester not knowing how i was doing in the class for her to finally put in grades at the absolute last minute showing me that all the work i put into the class meant nothing because she lost papers and wouldn't work with me when i emailed her saying i hadn't done half the work even though i did everything for the class DO NOT TAKE
Professor Gaskamp is very passionate about her course. For her in-person course attendance is very important. Work load us heavy, but she would take grades from group activities in class and her lectures would typically cover the assignment that was due next. She is very well spoken and not quiet.
Gaskamp is the only history teacher that has been able to actually teach me anything. Her lectures are very informative, and she occasionally gives in class graded assignments which are super easy. There are five research assignments (comparing primary sources and month to do) and seven quizzes (open ended and a week to do). She also gives no tests
Amazing professor! This is course is reading heavy, and you'll have one assignment per week. The assignment has questions related to what you're reading and it's not hard. There are also 4 research assignments which are pretty simple because she provides websites and formats for it. She also offers some extra credit options. Overall, great class!
Absolutely loved her!!! Her teaching style is like she's telling a story and does in-class activities half of the time. Extra credit opportunities. Does assign a good amount of work. 4 research projects, weekly quizzes (more like mini-projects), and in-class activities. She's so funny and caring. Such an easy class just do the work.
Prof. Gaskamp makes history engaging. Assignments can be time-consuming, but staying on top of them is key. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for prep - highly recommend it alongside the readings.
Professor Gaskamp is a wonderful person, however she was not the type of professor that I needed. Her lectures are interesting, but I would not bother taking notes on any of the lectures since her assignments are all based on websites. Also don't expect to know what your grade is in the second half of the semester since she never updates grades.
While attendance isn't mandatory, there are in-class assignments that require to actually show up. There are 5 online "quizzes" that are basically 2-3 page papers, as well as 3 research projects.
Lots of work, but is clear with what she wants in you from the beginning of the semester. Come to class and you'll be fine. Attendance only matters for a few weeks. Do the work and you'll be fine. A bit late to post grades so I was a bit stressed about it for a while.
