she is the new teacher to the chem dept. she absolutely loves chemistry and makes sure that you understand it. she is very approachable as well. not easy though, you need to work for it. she's picky about her prelabs and writeups. she takes most test questions straight from the hw problems so do your hw, ask questions, and you'll do well.
Dr. Green really tries to help her students in the best way possible. She prepares you for every quizzes and exams, so study your problem sets (which she provides) and do the recommended hw then you should be fine. Study hard and do your work to earn your B and A. BTW, she's very strict on lab notebooks so do a good job!
This class was so hard but she is a very interesting person. Very funny and willing to help. Suggest you copy the questions/answers from the instructors manual in the library - all the test questions are from the HW (manual is only place w/ answers), and from the quizzes and problem sets. Study them well. Go slow/steady on the unknown labs!
Dr. Green seems to really love teaching chemistry and I enjoyed her class very much! Her lectures were always very clear. The problem sets and the homework really helps to understand what to expect on the exam.
her teaching style is not for everyone; be prepared for a lot of self-teaching; textbook problems and answer manual is the only way i was able to learn.
Dr. Green is the BEST teacher I have ever had. SHe is so helpful and nice and funny too! She is also very strict and does not like it when you are late at all, but as long as you are a good student and do all of the work and don't fall you will do fine in her class. Oh and she is really big on the lab notebook make sure it is always done!
Dr. Green is an awesome chemistry instructor. Couldn't have asked for a better one. Her exams are tricky, but if you study and do the practice exercises & HWs, guarantee B for sure! Work a little harder and an A is do able. Make sure your lab is perfect the way she wants it. If so, easy A for lab. She's friendly & approachable for any help.
Take someone else. She is not a good teacher. When she gives you problem sets and you need help, she just points at things. If I knew what i was doing, i wouldn't have asked her a question. Her final is impossible. She is one of those teachers who is brilliant, but doesnt understand how to teach the material.
Best teacher ever. Her lectures are very helpful and enjoyable. Note: first 1/2 of semester is extremely rigorous. Have your lab book ready and be on time! The final was surprisingly difficult, however, she offers easy and fun X-credit, bonus questions on every test, and will help you w/ your questions.
Undoubtedly one of the hardest classes I've ever taken; however, Dr. Green is one of, if not, the BEST Chemistry professors at Golden West. I struggled through her class, but with her help I was able to come out okay. Do her problem sets, study her notes, and always - always - be sure to ask her for help, because she's always willing and prepared.
Hard enough said.
The class is hard thats a fact. Professor Green is a great teacher and is willing to help. The first two tests are HARD but the second two are cake. She wants you to learn, I hated chemistry and still do but this was a fun class. She expects you to learn.so be ready to study.
funny, but she grades HARD. Her lecture's interesting, but the exams are EXTREMELY HARD. Dr. Green said that she put some difficult problems on the exam for those who were smart. I think that it's general chem, not an honor class.idk y she doesnt teach us what we're supposed 2 learn? her problem sets r different from her exams. so BE AWARE
I was one of the few B's in her class. she does not at all adequetly prepare you for any of them. Only open class out of 7 colleges so i took her. Dont its not worth your gpa and your education wait a semseter, you wont be prepared for any tests hw is useless, only students retaking the class can help you get a good grade which is whom i studyign w
claims to have exam questions straight from her examples. that is a FAR stretch. half the class walked out after the second test. avg. was in the 50 range. how can half the class avg. be that low and she be okay with that. what a waste of a semester. only professor open at the time and i wonder why. avoid and don't waste your time. 180grade'B
What future students need to keep in mind is to actually work on the problem sets handed out and do the recommended homework problems rather than just stare at it. Some of the harder exam questions might be in the textbook. Don't memorize, but rather study and know the concept.
Professor Green is not really bad. At least, she prepares for her class and tries to teach the students. Unlike many problems in phyiscs and math, the problems in chemistry require more steps. So if someone really wants to do good, he/she must really understand the concepts of the previous chapters and learn to think ahead. The exams are fair enough
Just stay far away from her as much as you can!!!!!!!!! or if you have no choice and force to be in her class, you should definitely be aware. She does not allow to use two-lines calculator, only one-line calculator. Almost students dropped after the second test. About grading, she marks you wrong and deduct all points even though you just get wrong
An awesome professor! Sure she's hard, but get over it! Chemistry is a tough subject but she teaches with the utmost of clarity. The only hard exam is exam 2 and I was simply surprised at how easy the final was. She may seem ough but is very approachable. Thank you Dr. Green!
she makes her own comments to appear she is good. stay away if u know whats good for u. take a different professor and feel like u learned something and earned the grade. don't get screwed by taking this class.
Best Chemistry teacher I?ve taken so far. Hard teacher but she is very knowledgeable and I enjoyed taking her class. Don?t just try and memorized the problems on the book or the problem sets. Her exams are hard, but they?re mostly the same questions arranged differently. If you really want to learned and get out something out of Chem 185, take her!
If your major does not require Chemistry then you should definitely stay away from this class. But if Chem is your major then taking this class is a must. Green is a great teacher, she will make you learn. p/s: If I have to rate her test from easy to hard, it'll be insane and she does not curve the class (even 3/4 of the class failed)
Prof.Green is hard, but she is good at lecturing.I love her lectures.I actually do not read the text much. Her exams are hard(hardest is the second one).My advice: focus on the lectures, take notes, look for examples in the text,do homework(some are on exams),do problem sets (key online). If you want to learn, take her.I got an A.Hope you will
Her class is ridiculous. I'm an A average student and I found her to be unhelpful, inadequate in her teaching style. During the semester she decided to stop lecturing and use another method which made half the class fail the 3rd exam. Her exams appear easy but are usually time consuming and require critical thinking skills. Definitely do the hw.
Took this class 2 years ago, her test are difficult to say the least, but she wants you to learn and pass. she doesnt baby you just holds everyone to a higher standard. Just work hard and ask a bunch of questions and do all all book problems. It helps when you transfer out of GWC and get to university you are ready for the work load.
I have a Bachelors and did quite well in physics/bio from the university. I took her second semester class to fulfill a pre-req. for grad school....in nutshell, this professor shouldn't be allowed to teach. She doesn't prepare students thru her lectures,hw problems or from the textbook to get a decent grade on the heavily weighed exams. Avoid!!!
She's an interesting teacher. She really wants you to learn the material. Very clear and helpful in lectures; really strict in labs. Do as much HW as you can and review the worksheets CAREFULLY for tests. Tests are pretty hard but I think she gives extra points, or maybe curves...A tough class that needs hard-work!
I got a D the first time around because I wasn't diligent in how much I studied and how often I did the problem sets she gives out. I'm an A student and needed this as a pre-req and she definitely holds you to a higher standard than most. Study the problem sets, go to her for help and THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. the exams are tough.
This class will make you feel that chemistry is absolutely impossible. It took me two semesters to barely get through with my C =(. Absolutely a tough class, but Dr. Green is very knowledgible and keeps the lectures pretty entertaining. She relates a lot of things to real life situations which I found helpful. Hard class, must study study study!
Dr. Green is very knowledgeable. Her enthusiasm in chemistry makes her lectures interesting. She expects her students to work hard and study hard. The first couple exams are quite difficult so study hard if you want to pass the class. I'm glad I took this class with her. I learned a lot from her. She's a great teacher.
Dr. Green is an extremely hard professor! She does not babysit, or ask you to spit out verbatim what she teaches you. She gives students building blocks needed to critically think their way through her exams. I commend her for this, because it is a major’s course. If you cannot get through her class, you should change majors!
To be honest, she is a great teacher, really helpful, probably the best chem professor I've ever had. However, she is a little bit strict so be prepared for the quizzes. The in-class practice problems are pieces of cake, so you need to read the book and do the questions there. Don't forget the slides she gives us on blackboard, they will be useful.
Dr. Green's Chem 185 class is one of the most demanding classes I have ever taken. However, if you are there to master the material, she's the perfect teacher if you need to take the MCAT or DAT in the future. This is not a class in which you can simply regurgitate the material and expect an A. You need to do the ALL the work assigned.
Dr. Green is a really good professor. She is enthusiastic about chemistry and actually makes it interesting. Some concepts are difficult, but she explains them well. Study her practice sets and do some book problems. This class honestly isn't that hard. a B is very manageable. I think I could have gotten an A if I would have tried harder.
I have had excellent, difficult professors in the past, this is not one of them. Green in CHEM 185 is difficult because she can't teach, not because the class is anything special. She wrote the lab book herself, directions are cryptic, demands heavy use of Excel with no instructions whatsoever. Sig fig errors in homework, overall poor impression
Took this class as a prereq for grad school. DO NOT TAKE 185 WITH GREEN. I took chem/bio at University and got As. I expect a B at best with Green. You will learn plenty and she's knowledgeable. But grading on labs is impossible. Inadequate exam prep. I LOVE chem but this class is enfuriating. Learn it all, and get a bad grade anyway!
Trick questions on exams, lab is ridiculous. I spend two hours in her lecture and learn nothing, spend 20 minutes on Youtube and its crystal clear. If you are a science major/serious about chem, take Laux at OCC. I'll get a high B I imagine, but not representative of my knowledge of the subject.
Her lectures are very clear (not necessary to read the book) and the problem sets she gives out are also helpful to prepare for the exams. But sometimes some of the problems from the exam make you apply what you learned back in previous chemistry classes, so they can be tricky. She's usually funny and energetic, but don't ask her stupid questions.
I worked WAY too hard to get a C. Fair and good lecturer but needs more clarity on problem solving. Lab book is good but disorganized, relevant because she wrote it herself. Labs were graded for accuracy, NOT whether you learned anything- fine for real world but in a class? Final exam format nothing like her tests. I was unprepared for that.
Professor Green is very knowledgeable but her tests and labs are so hard. Take another professor if you can. I would not recommend her for lab because she's really strict.
This class isn't a walk in the park but I changed my major from bio to chemistry because of her. She's motivating and inspirational. The people that view her as difficult just didn't work the problems out- you cannot do chemistry without practicing the problems. She's one of the best professors I've ever had in my life.
Lectures are fast-paced with only small group work. While this format doesn't work well for some students, Dr. Green, is very much my-way-or-the-highway. Test questions are fairly step-wise and formulaic, so there are no surprises as long as you put in the time to study. Easy C, but higher grades are tricky because her grading is not clear cut.
Lectures are mostly group work so it helps to get to know your group members and work together. She is very passionate but sometimes she comes off as confrontational if you ask her stupid questions. Quizzes are pretty much like problem sets and the suggested book HW helps to understand the conceptual quiz questions. Doesn't alwaysExplainThingsWell
One of those inspirational professors with enthusiasm for her subject. Very encouraging and helpful. It is a tough class, do your homework. Read your textbook for thorough understanding of topics. Would take again!
She delivers the material in a clear and concise way. Lectures are fast-paced. Class notes are posted on blackboard. Exams are straight from the homework and given problem sets. However, she will penalize you SEVERELY for a mistake, so take your time and be careful. Lectures are engaging and really do help you see the practical applications
Pretty hard class unless you study and learn your material. Overall, an A is very achievable.
Hard class expect to study and put a lot of hours into this class. lectures are a must if you want to understand material. Dr. green is willing to answer any questions if you don't understand. offers 40 points extra credit. Put in the work and you can pass the class.
Don't not take her if you don't want to regret. Her quiz is not difficult but quite long, It is hard to finish on time. Difficult to get an A because her point is not clear cut. She deduct so many unreasonable points. She make my chemistry Class become a nightmare even though I got an A+ of Chemistry A.
Got a B couldve gotten an A Great Prof. Patient b/ won't spoon feed you. Kinetics is hard so know your alg. Study bookwork, worksheets and ppt x2. Concepts are just as important as math. Go to office hrs to ask Q's. Try to UNDERSTAND WHY things act the way they do. Don't be put off by her energy just get to know her. She actually cares.
You have a "quizzam" every two weeks, which are timed, short answer exams that cover one chapter each. They are math-heavy, not curved, and you have 8 of these total. Labs are also intense and your grade is based entirely on your results. Good teacher but her class was very stressful.
She doesn't baby you but she does care. Great energy but difficult class. Would take again but you better be prepared. Was stuck with a B because of my first several scores (D's/C's). Was scoring high A's after test 4. Tackle ICE early or you'll regret it.
I drop her class middle of semester because she require you must be talkative and there is participation point and you cant look at phone. You can not have freedom in how you want approach class, it is not like college more like high school. She seem good at teaching but her personality not good, she very controlling, make class not enjoyable.
Her tests are tough, but she is very fair. Her material is very straightforward and easy to understand, as long as you put in the effort. Don't be afraid to ask questions, as she is always happy to respond to them. ALEKS is a neat homework tool as well. A couple fun extra credit assignments throughout the semester is a plus.
Extremely energetic and passionate about chemistry. She's a great professor that cares about students learning. Her labs and teaching style was difficult at first, but once you actually put in the effort and adjust to it, you'll be fine. She loves answering questions, don't be shy if you need help. Ton of extra credit to help your grade. Recommend!
I didn't really like this class when I started but towards the end, I found it quite enjoyable. Just practice & practice the worksheet problems and you'll be okay on the exams. Aleks assignments helped me a load. It's good for reviewing. Her lectures are heavy, but not boring. She's very passionate about Chem & I would take her again if I could.
Although the lectures were two hours long they passed by so quickly with her teaching style. She randomly places you into groups and each lecture she provides us with worksheets that we work on during lecture. I failed my first exam because I didn't study properly but I still ended up with an A in the class bc all the extra credit and homework.
Dr. Green is an amazing professor who's willing to teach you until you get it. She has a teaching style where she puts you in groups, at first it can be annoying but you get used to it. She gives fair amount of extra credits for each exam. Final exam is extremely difficult because of ACS style. Chem 185 is hard but she makes it bearable.
Aleks HW takes way too long, and it does not even help when it comes to learning the course material. Exams are free response and extremely difficult, which is completely ridiculous considering that this is a lower division class at GWC (it's not Stanford), and docks a ton of points on exams. She can be rude at times, if you ask for help.
Professor Green is very energetic for the most part, terrible at explaining concepts. If you dont get it and ask questions, shell make you feel dumb for not knowing it. Tough grader when it comes to the tests. The material is tough so make sure you have a lot of time to study when taking this class.
She's pretty rough around the edges so when you first take her, she's probably going to come off as rude & intimidating, but she grows on you!! She's really caring & is always willing to help if you don't understand something. Lectures were really engaging and you do lots of practice problems. Tests are graded pretty harshly but she also gives ec
Do not take her word seriously. she says that the tests are like the problem sets but they are not. There are 3 test and a final and the average on the tests were a 72%, 63%, and a 70%. TONS of homework and it wont help you with the test.
I took Dr. Green for 185 and she definitely makes you work for your grade. ALEKS is very tedious and precise but it helps reinforce your skills. Homework makes up for a large part of your grade so don't skip out on it. Dr. Green can be a little condescending towards certain questions and can be very blunt.
Dr. Green is so amazing and inspirational! I think it is very important to get to know her. Her enthusiasm is so contagious and she is so great at teaching! I loved CHEM 185 because of her! She is so knowledgeable and awesome! Exams are a balance of concepts and math.
Dr. Green's knowledge is adequate enough. I did well and she treated me fairly. But on several occasions I observed her being rude or condescending to students, once to the point of being abusive. The abuse was not related to the quality of the student's work. I would not recommend her.
I & few other students didn't have good experience with her. As previous comments said, she might come off as rude, condescending, and unreasonable to students. She's a very knowledgable professor, but she might make you feel stupid for not knowing certain stuff sometimes. She does offer EC which is the only thing nice about her class.
Annoyingly energetic for someone who pretends to care about your grade until you ask questions. Makes you feel stupid for not knowing a topic. So much homework that dont relate to exams at all. Extremely rude to me when I came to her about connection issues and my grade being docked for silly things. Reads off slides word for word lol.
She is amazing! I really loved her personality and how she encourages cooperation among classmates. Chemistry was a subject I struggled in, but she made it manageable and even enjoyable. Her class was a challenging, yet the most rewarding experience. She provides practices tests that truly help study for exams. Extra credit is fun too!
Green wants her students to fail. Weekly quizzes are 30 points each with unreasonable point values and time limit. You get penalized for getting your problems wrong on the problem sets. Her lectures are basic and her quizzes contain problems she's never taught. Take her if you want to fail.
During this Covid time, she makes it harder on you. You have to finish 8-9 quiz questions for 20-25 mins. Each question is like a page - two pages free response. She does not let you to go back on the previous question. She teaches you the basic, but expects you to do advanced problems on her quizzes.
most of your grade is based on homework and quizzes. the only test you have is the final at the end of the semester. quizzes are weekly and gives you an unreasonable amount of time for the amount of questions.
The workload is very heavy and there is something due every single day. The instructions are EXTREMELY unclear and she gave weekly 30 point timed quizzes whilst having only a few questions and not providing the option to go back and check your work. The material isn't hard, she just makes it hard. DO NOT take this professor, it's not worth it.
Dr. Green is an amazing professor. She is understanding and will always listen to feedback. Her lectures make the concepts easy to understand. I didn't like chemistry before taking her class, but she makes the class manageable and interesting. Reach out to her for anything and she will always be happy to help! Would definitely recommend!
no exams except for the final (ACS based), quiz every week based on problem sets and aleks homework. go to lectures if you dont want to submit problem sets and have her grade harder on those. shes super enthusiastic about chem
It seems like all the bad reviews were from online because in person she was great and I think she changed her attitude because she was always so nice and helpful. A lot of your grade is homework and class work which you can always get 100 on. Weekly online quizzes and final is only worth 5%. Only downside-hw takes forever
Professor Green is one of the best experiences I have ever had in G.W.C. Her caring attitude, attentiveness, and warmth make her very approachable. Her slides can sometimes be confusing if you did not attend the lecture however you can always ask her for help. If I could rate it higher than a 5, I would she is amazing!!!
Dr. Green is amazing. I took the online lecture with no issues. She provides so much info that it makes the homework a breeze. The workload can be intense, but I prefer it to test-heavy courses. I enjoyed her lectures, and she provides feedback after every problem set and time to correct your mistakes and resubmit. Best chem professor, hands down.
P. Green's class was great. We did a problem set each class after a 30-60 min lecture, you worked in teams and checked answers as the class went on, she is good at giving feedback. Online hw on MyLab and a proctored quiz every week (quizzes can be a bit hard tbh). Turn in everything else and you'll be good. Standardized test at end of the semester.
I find her personality to be a hindrance in my efforts to succeed in the course.
Her teaching style is great, but it's her personality that makes the class difficult. Hard to ask her questions without her making you feel less than her, or sort of impatient Other than that, she is good at explaining concepts, which is the only reason I would take her again. There is weekly quizzes and homework which are easy if you study.
Grading has a wide variety. There are problem sets per lecture. HW can be slow but it's doable. Quiz is with lockdown and is easy most of the time. Each of them is ~20% of the grade. A standardized test for the final. but tbf only one professor is teaching Chem B at GWC and that's her so there's nothing you can do but she's good enough. good luck
I couldn't stand the instructor. I've never really disliked anyone before, but this made the entire class almost unbearable.
If you took CHEM180 this will be a breeze in terms of weekly lectures. The toughest thing about this class will be the labs IMO. 2 weekly homework (1 online and 1 paper), weekly quiz (8~10 questions), no exams besides final. Some extra credit opportunities. Do go over the lecture quickly and confirm if the class is ready. Topics sometimes are hard.
After GenChemA, Green is straight-forward and helpful. Super organized and genuinely acommodating with anyone's schedule if you email or speak to her. Labs are much more fun vs ChemA. Only end of the week quizzes and a final ACS exam. Problem sets can be hard but you're in groups. At first it was confusing, but I loved it at the end bc she's amazin
Dr Green is a charismatic professor who cares for her students. Her lectures are good and she checks in with students. She explains things concisely and gives practice time. There is a LOT of homework each week with weekly quizzes but no exams. Quizzes are ~ 20% and the final is worth < 10% of the grade. With consistent effort, it's an easy A.
Worksheet every day of lecture, finish at the end of the day + quiz due every sunday. SUPER managable since NO tests besides the final. didn't even study the final and still got an A, lab carries so hard. an amazing lecturer- connects real world problems with chem. take her not OCC. 10 point quizzes! a lot of work but like every other chem class
She was nice
Green is an odd one. On one hand, no midterms but a weekly quiz made me unmotivated to study, and the in-class worksheets made the class feel very, very slow with a 30-minute lecture stretched to 2 hours. That being said, this is one of the easiest classes I've ever taken, and she is nice and covers all needed content, so I can't be too hard.
One of the best professor ever at GWC! She provides worksheet in class to ensure that you understand the materials. She gives absolutely good feedbacks. There is proctored weekly quiz that isn't very hard, and only standardized test as the final. Lab is very fun and she allows to make up if you miss a class or you want to improve grades.
She was really nice. If you made mistakes in lab or in the lab report she lets you redo it. Online procured quizzes with problem sets available while taking quiz. One final.
