what a great teacher take her for speech. just read the book the tests come right out of the book and dont be so worried about the speeches. she has to be one of the nicest and most caring teachers in BMCC.
prof. kavanaugh is one of the best teachers ive ever had. she explains everything clearly for everyone to understand. i hope i end up being her student in another course cos she is great!
This is probably one of the nicest teacher you will find at BMCC. She makes sure you feel comfortable when doing your speech because she knows that a lot of people hate having to make a speech infront of their peers. Her tests are easy straight from the book. Take her for speech!
LOVED HER!
Very nice teacher. When giving speeches she makes you feel comfortable. Just do the speeches and should pass this class. Very approachable.
LOVELY just lovely! Strongly advise you to take her class. Fun while learning, GUARANTEE!
No matter which particular learning medium you ustilize to educate yourself, Prof Kavanagh will find a way to cater to it. She makes the importance of the class very clear. We all want to be great speekers, persuasive and assertive, which couldn't be done with out the ability of being great listeners, and our college education depends on it.
Prof. Kavanagh is Great!! She is one of the nicest professors you'll ever meet. She makes giving speeches a breeze. Very understanding and caring..Easy A as long as you do the work and show up for classes..
One of the best professors i've ever had. She makes speech fun which i thought was impossible. She's very clear about what she wants and gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Since we all gotta take speech, this is the professor to take. You won't be dissapointed.
OOOOH I love this teacher!! She's like your best friend. She offers extra credit if you're not doing too well in her class, and her exams are a breeze, she neVer make it difficult. She's sweet, always smiling and willing to explain anything to you that wasn't clear in class. just one thing make sure you have your work on time. TAKE HER!!!
This is one the of nicest professors out there, she really cares about your education and her arts and management course is great.
very helpful and accessible
Professor Kavanagh is absolutely awesome. Her tests are very simple and straight forward (most are open notebook.) She is very sweet and gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit. It is very easy to earn an A in her class. Take SPE100 to boost up your gpa.
Ok words cannot explain how good this woman is. She make speech seem like its natural because its something she loves and very "Credible" about. I love her; but then again my class was GREAT. If you gonna pay $ pay her, its well deserved.
Kavanagh...what can I say, she's an awesome woman. Great teacher and is always up to answering a question no matter how ridiculous it is. She's makes us better and pushes to levels I, didnt' even know I could get to.
Professor Kavanagh is a wonderful woman. I had her for speech 100. She is understanding and extremely helpful. If you miss a test you can make it up. She makes you feel relaxed about presentations and always offers advice. She is an amazing women and she is a mom so she understands when emergencies come up. I love her she rocks
she makes the topic seem cool
i didn't know bmcc have a wonderful professor like her!!!. I was so interesting with her in class and I am happy to have her next semester too.!!! she is such a good professor, funny, enjoyable. just EXCELLENT. my grade isn't good but she is good. also, if u attend the 100 or others, she may gives you a free broadway ticket!! so expensive but free!
uses powerpoint which is not very helpful to learning the material. for the final, we were responsible for a whole chapter that she didnt cover in class so we had to learn it on our own. she gave open notebook tests which was helpful. oh and she gave us free tickets to see broadway/off broadway shows which was really cool.
Extremely helpful, kind, generous and fair. One of the best professors I have ever had.
i have nothing positive to say for this professor. she was one of my worst professors at bmcc. i was miserable in her class. im just glad that the semester is over and i can move on with my life. good luck
Very blunt and down to earth
Amazing women and professor. If you do the work you will learn and get the grade. Your hard work does not go unnoticed. She is helpful and understanding with anything you need.
I learned more in this class than I did interning in a Broadway production office for the same amount of time.
One of the best! Absolutely fantastic! One of those professors that you will remember forever and it's obvious that she really wants you to succeed in the class. She sets you up with everything you need to pass and actually succeed in this industry ... loved her class.
What an amazing professor! First of all, I had Kavanagh since The 100. She has always been such an insightful Professor. My class had fun, stage managed our own show. It was the real deal, and she was always willing to help and hear us out. Including open book tests! She's a Professor I will never forget. She made me love theater even more!
Professor Kavanagh is honestly one of the best Professors I’ve had. She is insightful, kind and truly wants her students to succeed in the industry; she even brings guest speakers to shine some light on their experiences and what a student can do to get their foot in the door. She’s a professor you will never forget and will remember fondly.
Extraordinary class and Prof. She was extremely helpful by making sure we understood the true workings of theatre management. She made sure we had plenty of knowledge as to what theatre management TRUELY entails...she mastered the way of infusing CUNY's theatre curriculum with the real theatre world! We need more innovative profs like her!
This class reignited my love of theatre. The work was at times intense, but Prof. Kavanagh's expertise and obvious enthusiasm for her subject was inspiring. Her encouragement and support have been invaluable--it's easy to see that she genuinely enjoys teaching and guiding her students toward success. Plus, she's got a wicked sharp sense of humor!
Take her classes! Professor K really turned our class into a little family. Theatre majors and non theatre majors alike found value in this intro class. Whether it was getting us comps to shows or helping students find internships, she really made a connect between the classroom and the theatre.
One of the best theater professors you will ever meet. she is wonderful and gets you wanting to do theater more. she even gets u FREE tickets to off Broadway shows at second stage theater. i definitely reccomend her. i would say do your work and keep up and you will get an A. this is college folks! =)
By far one of the best Professors at BMCC. I enjoyed taking her class. I was never into theatre; until I took this class. She is an amazing person I would def take her class again.
Professor Kavanagh is one of my favorite professors. She's very helpful and always there to listen and help out when we need her help. She made my first year of college very enjoyable and exciting.
I took three classes with Professor Kavanagh,Advanced Theatre, Theatre management, and Theatre externship. I learned so much from each class. It was a great experience; to bad I can't take her classes at NYU on fall. I highly recommend her. She is one of the best teacher at BMCC and she is always there for students students comes first for her.
She is the Theatre Program Director. I took her for Intro to Theatre, and for Theatre Management. If you show up to class, participate and turn in all projectspapers you'll pass. If you're in danger of failing, she lets you know. She gave us several free Theatre tickets as well. She also helped me get an internship with The New Group!!!
Prof. Kavanagh is sharp, funny, encouraging and whip-smart. Her classes are engaging and fun, and impart practical theater world knowledge - she's well versed and well connected. You have to be on the ball to get a good grade, but she really wants all her students to do well, and gives everyone the chance to succeed. She changed my life.
Professor Kavanagh is a great, smart, inspiring professor. She's passionate about her work and offers many opportunities for people to feel comfortable in her class and the theater world. I would strongly recommend her class, especially if you have a little interest in theater and you want to explore more. Study, work hard, take her. you'll pass!
Professor Kavanagh is amazing! I have taken her twice so far, and both times I enjoyed having her. Participation is key, and for the most part just showing up is half the grade. She's really understanding if you go to her directly with any problems, and you'll love her if you take her seriously.
Taking Prof Kavanagh's class was awesome! She is very well organized, goes by the syllabus, and is very informative. When you need help, she makes time for you. If you plan on working in the Theatre Business, she is the person to know!! Full of connects! The only way you will fail the class is if you don't do the work! TAKE HER CLASS!!
She is amazing This was a new CUNY wide class that she not only inspired (because of her wealth of connections in the Professional Theatre Arts community) She also worked tirelessly to connect BMCC students with comp tickets to a variety of shows both on and off Broadway She has real vision when it comes to the students and their growth.
Professor Kavanagh is a very thoughtful and helpful teacher who truly cares about her students. She was determined to help each and everyone of us to find the right place in Theatre for ourselves and to get more involved. I understand much better how this business works and even the way I look at Theatre has changed after this class. Amazing!
Professor Kavanagh is the most helpful and caring of all professor. She made the class feel much like a family plus very fun. You will need the textbook as it is the only way of passing the exams. You will learn about the life of theatre the way you never thought it happened.
Professor Kavanagh is one of the most understanding theater professors at BMCC. In all of her classes, she takes the time to get to know you as a person while trying to understand what kind of student you are. If you keep open communication with her, even those struggling in her class will pass. Just remember to take her work seriously.
I love this professor, I took a Advance Theatre Workshop in the spring and I will never forget what I learned in that workshop. I also, believed in my self again and I arranged a score that me and my classmates were created. It was magic! Professor Kavanagh is one of those professor that makes you believe in your self.
Going in, I barely knew anything about this professor seeing as see had just returned from her leave. But as the semester progressed, I became really fond of professor K and I would even go as far as to call her a friend. The amount of support she has for the students of BMCC really blew me away. And if I could. I'd gladly take her course once more
I went in with an interest in theater and left with a love of it. My class was 98% made of non-theater majors and we all gave our best. The professor cares about her students and is understanding of any problems any of her students face. Highly recommend if you have any interest in theater.
Prof. Kavanagh is one of the most respectful professors I've ever met so far at BMCC. Although I'm no theatre major, but I have learned a lot from her. We do use the book and she will even go over what read during our lectures. By the end of the semester, everyone you will meet in that class will feel like you have grown as a family.
Professor Kavanagh is the best of the best! I truly learned so much about the craft as well as myself in taking this class. She really wants to see you grow and wants what is best for you. I see her helping me throughout the rest of my theatre career and she deserves nothing less than a five-star rating. I would take her for any course!
Professor Kavanagh is the best professor to have for theater. She makes the lectures so interesting and is able to get free tickets to go to Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off Broadway shows to really get the feel of theater. You won't regret taking her class.
Well organized and fair
Professor Kavanagh is literally the best teacher I've ever had in my life. I wouldn't be where I am today doing what I love if it wasn't for her. I came into her Theatre 100 class as a communications major and she quickly made me fall in love with the theatre world. I am now a thriving theatre major here. She truly cares about her students.
Professor Kavanagh does not provide a rubric that would make it clear what you are being graded on so I felt that she was a harsh grader and her exams were difficult as well especially for an intro class. She did not allow me to do extra credit and graded me harshly for participation even though I always participated which was unfair.
I took Prof. Kavanagh's theatre management class as a requirement for my major. I originally had no interest in this class but my whole perspective changed. I am all the way an actor, but it was really fun and informative learning about how it all works. Also, the opportunities to see free theatre! And oh the connections!
An outstanding educator; she's extremely supportive and always willing to help. If you're thinking about taking her class for an easy A, don't. If you are actually looking to be present in this class, she's a perfect fit. I've taken many professors in this establishment, but she's definitely one that will stick with me for sure.
She is amazing! I love her so so so much!!! She is so funny and hilarious. And So kind. She is such a sweetheart!! I will take her class again! Hey guys, take her class you will never regret.
I quit school because of the way Kavanagh treated me. Very harsh and inflexible, no room for error.
Do the work and Professor Kavanagh will open doors for you. She is caring, tough, but fair. If you don't show up, you won't pass.
If youre passionate about theatre, this is the professor for you. Struggling with deadlines? Go to her office hours, but dont wait. She wants her students to succeed.
Being in Kavanagh's class was a great experience. Who knew learning about theatre management could be so interesting? Kavanagh know's her stuff and is really about getting her students to the next level.
Honest. Creative lectures. Understanding. Forgiving, yet no pushover. She's great!
Kavanagh created a safe place for me to grow as a performer. She pushed me when I needed to be challenged. She had us do a lot of dramaturgical research which gave us a better sense of our characters. Her artistic vision is so creative and I loved seeing it all come together. She knows how too build a professional team and bring out the best in us.
Professor Kavanagh was an amazing teacher. I gained knowledge on how to connect myself to theatre companies and productions. She is a very caring soul that will work with you to make class understandable and manageable. I would definitely retake her.
I took Professor Kavanagh's Theatre Management class. I learned so much about the business behind Broadway. The way she has all of us go in the Theatre field and interview people from certain Theatre companies is amazing. Katherine Kavanagh is the professor that uses her creative side to help educate students about the industry into making our own!
Working with professor Kavanagh both in class and on stage you can tell that she is very good at what she does!
I became a theater major because of Kavanagh. She is passionate and considerate. She has high standards of all students even if you aren't a major.
Prof. Kavanagh is one of the most influential, caring, understand and loving professor. Ive ever had, if Im being honest she is one of the few professors that helped me grow! She also makes her class super easy to by successful. I love her!
very challenging and I did not feel safe or welcome in the class especially since Kavanagh made me feel like I am a bad student which is inaccurate.
The grading criteria for each assignment is not clear so it is difficult to know in advance how to complete it making it a very challenging class. A grading rubric for each particular assignment with clear criteria would be helpful. Otherwise, the class was mundane and boring and not what I expected from a theatre class.
Kavanagh is invested in her students. She treats students with respect and by the second day of class knew everyone's name (kinda rare at BMCC). I appreciate how accessible she is outside of class.
A wonderful professor and director who's willing to believe in you even in times when you lack hope in yourself. She's kind, but certainly no pushover. She's a professor and director for a reason, so listen to her and you'll learn a lot.
Professor Kavanagh is an amazing resource and is always more than willing to clarify things when you need extra help. She always harnesses all your best assets and enhances them. I've had multiple classes with her and she always gives us her best.
I had an amazing inspirational time. There was a real care about me as an individual. I definitely recommend and respect the work she does.
Professor Kavanagh is a wonder to work with. She has so many contacts in the theater business and brings them into class to talk to us. We've also had chances to interview some of her contacts at their theaters and learned a lot about how to actually run a theater. Kavanagh is kind, thorough, and truly wants us to succeed. Work hard and youll pass.
Challenges you to be your best, but is also compassionate. Super accessible. Changed my way of thinking about theater. Dedicated to her students and creates lots of opportunities off campus!
Professor Kavanagh pushed me out of my comfort zone. She was patient, but had high expectations of me. Her class will stay with me long after I leave BMCC.
Dedicated. Obviously invested in her students and passionate about theater. Glad I took the class even though I am not a theater major!
You get access to old tests as your "study guide" but some things on the tests are a curve-ball. There is mastering that can replace your lowest test score. (There are five tests including the final). She lectures fast and assumes you know a lot all ready but she is available after class.
Finally a class to learn about the business. Attended free theater as part of the class and met theater professionals. If you are serious about theater as a career this is a must take class.
Awesome. Felt like a professional experience.
Backstage work and marketing. Great for experience and fun. Super understanding about out of school conflicts. Caring and connected profesor .
Fantastic professor with real life experience. Uses her connections to create opportunities oyt of class for her students.
If you value your gpa then run for your life as she will make sure to ruin it for you.
Professor Kavanagh is a true GEM at BMCC. She is passionate about Theatre and is truly supportive. She is very helpful and makes her class fun. I would definitely take her again. Show up, participate, and have fun in her class!
My perspective on research and creating new material was changed forever in this class. Kavanagh has a way of creating a sense of community and brings out the best. She inspired me to work harder than I expected.
Prof. Kavanagh's Theatre Management class was by far one of the best classes and professors I've had. She wants to make sure you succeed in her class so she makes sure that she hears your input on assignments especially when we went remote and some projects and assignments became hard to handle. Overall I would recommend her class 100%.
She gives her students an incredible experience, she is a professor that genuinely cares about her students and I know that us students can feel that we can find both a friend and respectable teacher who we can learn a lot from
This hybrid THE 100 class far exceeded my expectations. It was a very small class and not all the students showed up all the time, which made group projects annoying sometimes, but overall it was fun. Kavanagh is understanding and funny. She obviously loves theater and wants us to. Not a hard class but requires participation. I'm not a major, but r
I was nervous about taking a theater class. Professor Kavanagh treated everyone equally, whether you had a theater background or not. I'm pretty shy, and she was very encouraging, but never pushed me too far. If you are unsure about taking a theater class--take hers! She also provides lots of FREE chances to see theater.
Kavanagh was patient and her passion for the topic is contagious.I'm not a theater major, but have always been interested in theater even though I am somewhat of an introvert. She was super encouraging. Highly recommend her if you are interested in seeing and reading plays. Very well connected.
Finally a professor who loves theater as much as me. She opened my eyes to different genres and opportunities in NYC.
Love this class. Professor Kavanaugh gives fun options for assignments. I learned a lot about theater. Tbh thinking of changing my major to theater now!
Take this professor! She makes intro to theater fun and gives options for homework. The in class exercises are fun. Since I am a theater major, I can't wait to take more classes with Professor K.
Professor Kavanaugh is a true mentor and expert in creating community. The plays we read in class were current and even though I was intimidated at first I got more comfortable in participating in the exercioses and found myself even volunteering.
Was surprised to find a class and professor so relevant to my passion and career goals. Highly recommend if you want to work in theater. Participation and attendance is really important.
not friendly at all. she doesn't want to grade if the assignment is done almost 80%
She is the worst professor in my whole life. Very difficult to understand her lecture. She ruin my CG. Ofcourse not recommending other students, try to find another professor for this course.
It was a very very pleasant class, I took the class in my third semester and the professor inspired me to use many talents and passions I did not know I had. Very enjoyable, class is not difficult, the professor takes her time to make sure everyone understands. She cares about all students, and is very understanding if you have difficulties. 10/10
My favorite class and professor at BMCC. She knows how to create a sense of community in the classroom. I don't understand bad ratings--most have been students who didn't do the work or come to class. If you ask, she gives you extensions for assignments. Participation is important. Fun exercises and really interesting plays.
Professor K is a wonderful professor and a wonderful person in general when I took her for fall 2024. She is really caring, really patient, and understanding, I felt so engage when taking her class and learning more about theater! Thank you Professor for the amazing theater 100 experience!
Kavanagh is passionate about theater and students success. She's down to earth, understanding and exteremely well connected. We visited several theaters and met with a lot of professionals, which made the class fun and super useful. I wish there was a continuation or advanced version of this course!
If you are a theater major you need this class. Kavangh's class activities are fun and more useful than i thought the class would be. She is the most caring faculty member I have had at BMCC.
I'm not a theater major, but this was my favorite class. Kavanaugh made it fun to be there.
Kavanagh helped me build my confidence and I changed my major to theatre!
Great class. One of my favorites.
Was nervous about this class even though I took some theater in high school. I'm a Criminal Justice major, but figured it would be a good class for me. Professor Kavanaugh chose interesting plays to read and encouraged everyone to collaborate depending on their interest. Lots of fun activities. She's very understanding gives extensions if you ask.
This professor is really tough. Her grading system is very bad. I would not recommend her class
Fun class and the professor set the tone. She made evrone feel welcome and encouraged participation.
Very helpful and accessible. Willing to give extensions especially if you go to office hours and talk to her in advance. I really liked the plays we read.
Inspiring and eye opening. This class helped me understand the business and Professor Kavanagh brought guests to class.
