She makes you think. Study and pay attention at her review sessions and you will do fine. Easy B if you are willing to put out the effort
Pretty easy class even if you've never had stat before.. I made b's on all of the tests and still managed to make an a in the class. The final is extremely easy! Study hard for the tests and use the practice tests. Extra credit is incorporated into every test.
Her test are fairly easy if you look over the old exam questions that she gives you. Extra credit on her test are very helpful, and she has probably the best grading policy on campus.
awesome teacher who really knows her stuff...I took honors and it was kind of easy because there's no h/w or tests, but we had to do case studies, which were probably the hardest things i've EVER done in my college career. I spent so many nights up late and extremely stressing out because of the difficulty, but it might have been worth no tests
Great Teacher... she is very knowledgable in the field and really has a passion. No real textbook for the class, and the way I studied (successfully) was doing all the practice tests like 10 times each. Take her over the other teachers, you will be glad you did, as she is very interesting as well.
The class is not easy but she does an excellent job in explaining the information and she is extremely knowledgeable in the subject. She actually made statistics fun to learn, I didn't think it was possible.
As long as you got to class and especially the test reviews, it can be an easy A. She is much more helpful than the other professor, Holmes. I hear our tests were easier than his too.
Her old tests are very helpful for practice, but if you need more help don't bother to ask her for help. When I was confused about something she told me to go buy the $200 textbook and read it... gee thanks. The textbook stinks so don't bother. But it was a pretty easy class if you show up, study her in-class examples, and do old test problems.
Presents things in a very disorganized manner. Makes you buy $37 hw software, but it teaches things differently from the way she does in class. Overall, this class is awful. If you can take Stat with another teacher I would do that. I hear Jill Smith (STAT 3000) is a lot better. Try her.
To get a regular A you have to make a 95, which is ridiculous considering that the University standard is a 93.
Attendance is not required but necessary. You will get behind quickly. Use her practice tests before tests. HW is a large portion of grade, and 3 midterms are worth only 45% of grade. Must make a 95 to receive an A.
I've taken Statistics in high school and LOVED it. She was too boring for me and made the info way too difficult to understand and didn't tell the class about all of the calculator shortcuts (which thankfully I knew). Tests are fair, the class is just way too boring. I quit going to class and started teaching myself and I did pretty well.
This teacher she is pretty good at explaining things. If you are not that good at math then it won't be that easy. Her tests are very tricky. You really need to study a week or more in advance for her tests in order to do well. I would probably say this would be one of your harder business courses.
what an AWFUL teacher. she puts more information on one test than ANY other macro teacher. She moves through the material too quickly and is not willing to help students during office hours. she has brought multiple people to tears simply for asking questions. her tests have information that are found in UPPER DIVISION CLASSES...not INTRO! EVIL
hardest class. ever. she is not willing to help anyone, ever. stay away. doesnt put any notes online, or anything and looks at you like your crazy if you ask to come to her office hours
If you have interest in Econ and study suficiently, you will do well. She covers alot of material but do not skip a class or you will get behind. Her notes are taken from the book and she shows all the book options and their prices. Her class can be boring sometimes but she is a good teacher.
McClain was original a STAT professor. Class can be very monotonous and A LOT of writing is involved. She doesn't post her slides online and often includes lecture-based questions on tests to force you to come to class. ECON is a tough subject to grasp so I can't blame her for most of the struggle. Just study hard, and use TutoringZone if you can.
McClain has been by far my least favorite teacher at Georgia. She does not explain things clearly, her class goes too fast and covers the randomest material possible. Good luck using tutoring zone, they refuse to cover her classes anymore. DO NOT TAKE MCCLAIN
She was terrible. Unclear slideshows with way too much information. Tests were very tricky and impossible. The only way I pulled a B was with TutoringZone because she didn't teach a thing all semester.
One of the worst teachers I've had to date. Her lectures were boring and all over the place. She went way too fast through slides, and seemed to take pleasure that people did not have enough time to write down notes (she didn't allow computers). I loved economics before this class, but she definitely took some of that away.
Awful. Look for any other teacher. McClain is terribly boring and hard to follow. She will drill examples into your head that are annoying and not helpful. It is almost impossible to copy down all of the information in class, and even more impossible to stay awake. She is strict and NO fun. I wouldn't recommend this class.
Do not take her. She makes everything 10x more complicated than it needs to be. She doesn't allow laptops, and she goes WAY too fast through her powerpoints. I dropped, best decision of my college career, just before the second test. Again, do not take her.
I hated her at first, she goes so fast during class and no laptops. This is a HARD class and you have to study your butt off but if you put in the extra 150% you'll do fine. She replaces your lowest exam grade with your final grade if you make above an 85, so that raised my average from an 80.3 before the final to an 88.5, so it does pay off.
I must say I did not like the way she teaches. She goes over literally 300 ppt slides for each test, and you're just like wtf?! And her test are meant to be easy, but the questions are from the little details from her lecture. I recommend you read the study guides for each chapter from the textbook resources on myeconlab! It's a lot more concise
This was one of the easiest A's I've ever earned. Just go to her lectures, take notes and do the reading assignments. The homework is also helpful. She puts several tricky questions on each test, but you will know the answers if you attend class. She gave a list of 48 topics to understand for the final, which made studying easy.
She was HORRIBLE. I hated her class. She goes so fast that it's impossible to write anything down. Her test questions are very confusing, and she loves those questions with the roman numerals, where the answer can be any combination of the three (the worst kind of questions). Take anyone else.
She goes through the lecture slides really quickly and switches back and forth all the time so its hard to take notes sometimes but she did post the slides online this year and the homework is SO easy to complete. Go to class and tutoringzone reviews (tutoringzone is the best for this class) and its easy.
She's very short with you for asking questions and treats those who ask for help like they are incompetent. She was always rude so if you like to have a good relationship with your professors then good luck! She covers more material than any other Macro professor & does not make herself approachable to students. Covers material way too fast!
I would not recommend taking this class!! Everything posted is dead on!! She is all over the place, her powerpoints are confusing and make absolutely no sense!! I had to teach myself all of the material outside of class and trying to get help from her was impossible. She is degrading and unhelpful. My final average was an 89.9 and I received a B+.
i missed a date for homework and there were three due that day. she usually let us do them afterwards but apparently we couldn't make up for the ones i missed. i didn't know and i literally begged her to give me a day but she refused. i would've had an A-. but i ended up getting a B+. i did all the studying on my own she's a bad n boring teacher

This is not an easy A- each test has 6-8 chapters of content. The class is fast-paced, but she is a fantastic lecturer and keeps the class engaged. Be prepared for some quick note taking, because she really only uses her slides as aide and you won't have time to copy them down. If you put the work in, you will learn a lot.
Great teacher
Class is challenging but she is a great teacher and very clear. Tests are hard but you will certainly be taught all the information. Gives a half a letter grade of extra credit
Very fair, offers extra credit opportunities.
The class is very interesting. In relation to the real world, I learned a lot. I'm an econ major and really enjoy this stuff - but her tests are very challenging. In the past I've made 250 notecards for one test alone, yet STILL cannot make above a C (and thats with a curve). If you're looking for an easy class, this is not it. It takes work.
Fascinating class. Very well taught. If you get the chance, take it. She's really passionate and offers extra credit.
Terrible. Do not take. Doesn't allow laptops in class and speaks way too quickly to write all of the notes down. Class is all over the place. Ridiculous amount of material for one test. She's a decent lecturer, if you can keep up with her. This is an intro level class taught at a graduate level. Take with someone else.
I have never had a worse teacher. She assigns homework completely unrelated to what she discusses in class and you have to completely teach yourself. What she does go over in class makes no sense. The other teachers for this class are so, so much easier. Students with the others spend very little time on the class while I spend countless hours.
Dr. McClain is a very nice lady. However, I kind of felt bad for her having to teach this class (it was kind of thrown at her last minute). So, we've had a lot of issues with the online homework not being what we need to know for the exam. I had a hard time keeping up with her at times, she goes way too fast. But, she did curve/give Extra credit.
Don't take McClain for MSIT 3000. I hate to leave her a bad review because I loved her for ECON but she just can not teach stat. She's unorganized, the homework has nothing to do with what she teaches in class, and she completely wastes class times deriving formulas that aren't important. This is the worst class I've taken since I've been at UGA.
Same experience as previous posters for business stat... If you can sit through her 75 minute class without dozing off/getting sidetrack then you my friend are a champ. She is the most mundane, boring teacher I have ever had. The other 3 teachers offered seem to be MUCH easier from what I have heard. AVOID HER for the sake of your gpa
Fall Semester 2013- three exams that do not resemble the homework done in statlab in any way, so do not bother studying for them using material from the homework. Most of the questions are conceptual and very tricky, so focus on theory rather than problem solving. Attend class because the material on exams comes from her lectures.
The only pro to this class is that it is so bad you will stop going. What is taught isn't what's on the tests. The conceptual questions on the tests are so ambiguous that even with a textbook they were difficult to answer. Take any other professor possible! Multiple homework assignments each week almost every class period.
This course was the worse class i've taken at uga. The homeworks take countless hours. I once spent 9 hours just doing a chapter's homework! The tests are poorly made and the answers are so ambigious.Never will I ever recommend or take another one of her classes. 25 percent of the class got under a B, 40 percent got a B- or lower
She is a great professor and really does know her information and enjoys it. The tests are VERY hard. She goes through her powerpoints very quickly and does not allow laptops (print the lectures beforehand and write on them). Overall, the tests are very tough and I would suggest another professor if possible.
Most boring teacher ever. There was no point in going to class because I could never pay attention. Ridiculous amounts of homework that takes forever to complete and has nothing to do with the tests. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!
McClain was the single worst teacher I have ever had in my life... at any level. She does nothing but ramble in class, and does not teach the things relevant to the test. My roommates took a combination of all of the other teachers, and their classes were all the same, and 1000x easier than mine. Seriously take ANY other teacher. SHE IS THE WORST!!
McClain's class is extremely difficult. She is a good at explaining things, and if you make the effort to pay attention in class and read the book you'll be okay. However, the tests are not easy by any means. The questions were always very tricky. If you struggle with econ you might want a different teacher. She does curve and offer extra credit.
Very tough teacher, but she works very well with athletes, do despite the fact that she is difficult she does give you the opportunity to ask for help.
I have no idea how this woman is still even a teacher at UGA. She is hands down the worst professor I have ever had. The homework takes COUNTLESS hours, and she makes no sense in class. Definitely the worst class I've ever taken in my life.
REPEAT: DO NOT TAKE HER, SAVE YOUR GPA. Honestly, one of the worst teachers I've ever had in my college career. Literally just reads off the powerpoints and when it comes to tests, DEATH. Questions are worded awkwardly and sometimes the questions have nothing to do with the material in class. SERIOUSLY, save yourself the trouble and DON'T TAKE HER
Dr. McClain is an obvious expert in her field and explains everything very well for those who have never taken econ before. There are quite a few assignments, but none are that difficult or time consuming. Her tests are very weird in that they are told like a story and you have to apply your knowledge but she des curve them. I would take her again.
Her notes and tests might as well be written in different language. Taking this class as an HONORS student, and not one person finished the first exam within the time allotted. She sends her TA into the test and isn't there herself to answer questions. I spent countless hours preparing for the exam only to have no concept as to how to complete it.
She's really not that bad. She definitely gets the material across well, your grade is purely a reflection of your effort for this class.
Tests are very challenging- it's not an easy A, you have to work for it. She curved the test for my class, but doesn't always do that. Personally this class taught me how to work hard and commit to studying, but a lot of people do badly. Take her if you want to learn, but take it seriously
Have 2 tests and a final, all tests are online & open notes & have plenty of time to complete. Do not have to attend class because posts all the notes online. Don't need the textbook but all work is submitted through pearson mylab. Explains pretty well, lots of graphs and she is kind of corny but nice lady.
I don't know where some of these bad reviews come from. McClain is a great professor. She's to the point during lecture and she's really good about reminding you about tests and homework before they're due. She's helpful during office hours.
This class is definitely an attainable A. I loved going to lecture because I found her jokes funny. A lot of people didn't go to class because there was no attendance policy but words can't explain how helpful going to class is and doing your homework. The tests are a lot like homework so pay attention to them. Gives a good extra credit oppurtunity
Her test are extremely hard, but they are taken online so they are open book and open note. Weekly homework that can take an hour or so. Gives an extra credit quiz at the end of the semester that can raise your grade 13 of a letter. I ended up with A- and only missed an A because she doesnt round up.
Professor McClain's lectures can be dry at times but overall I enjoyed them. She's actually pretty funny. Attendance is not necessary at all as she assigns homework weekly and you can pretty much learn everything from that. Exams (3 + cumulative final) are online. There is an extra credit opportunity where you read a book and take a quiz.
Professor Mcclain was overall a solid Economics Professor. I learned a lot in her class. The homework she assigned was on MyEcon Lab, which is pretty dull, but gives you 3-4 chances on every problem, so homework is a guaranteed 100. Tests were online and were open noteopen computer, but were still difficult. Made A's and B's on the tests.
McClain challenges you to think and makes you work hard. If you work hard and study, an A is not difficult. Read the book and do the homework.
Dr. McClain is an awesome person but not a very helpful teacher. In lectures she is engaging and clever but not good with questions. She expects you to get it. Read the book! Also the wording on her tests is very tricky. I usually lost at least 5 points on concepts I knew because of confusing questions. Take someone else if you want an easy class.
Dr. McClain is a great professor and I enjoyed her class. She can move pretty quickly through powerpoints, leaving students to learn some of the material on their own, but most of the key points are discussed in detail in class. If I could take this class again, I would definitely read the textbook on my own to get a better grasp of the material.
Great option for economics majors. First half covers abstract modeling, but she tries to make it interesting. Definitely recommend.
Ok class, the online version had a lot of work and I didn't feel like I learned that much. Tons of reading and most of it was common sense or I had learned it in other classes. Dr. McClain seems like a nice lady though.
McClain has a rep for being extremely hard and intimidating. While you do have a lot of homework and the tests are tricky, If you follow her study tools and use the materials she gives you, it is completely doable. Her passion for economics is admirable and she is a wonderful teacher and woman. My favorite teacher so far.
Dr. McClain is one of the best teachers that I have ever had but her class is hard. Easy HW assignments but theyre time consuming and due every class. Her tests are all free response and way too long. She gives extra credit if the average is lower than she wanted. Expect a tough teacher that will challenge you to think and learn. interesting class
McClain assigns a ridiculous amount of homework each week and her tests are way too long for the permitted time. She does not expect people to get a good grade in her class, but she will curve test grades if the average is low. She moves very past through powerpoints so you pretty much have to go through on your own to learn what she talked about.
Her class had an insane amount of homework every week and you pretty much need to buy the book if you want to do well. I ended up with an A, but it took way more effort than any other class I was taking. 100% would not take again. She's a nice lady, but not the best teacher, and doing well in her class requires so much time and stress.
I thought Dr. McClain was going to be a 'witch', but she's actually pretty cool and tries to make the class relatable. The class is hard though. You have HW due like every night, its easy just time consuming. The tests are very difficult and hard to prepare for in my opinion and pretty much the only thing that matters and will drag you down.
Very intelligent professor but she is disorganized. Due dates for homework and assignments differ between the web page and the provided syllabus. Multiple formulas including the interest rate formula written in her lecture power-point were written incorrectly than the one provided in the textbook. Unwilling to resolve due date inconsistencies.
The worst online class I have taken during my online BBA program. Insane amount of work. Multiple extra supplemental articles to read every week and test on. A lot of busy work for a class that wasn't very beneficial. If there is any way to avoid her, please do.
Don't take this class - her tests make NO sense. It's not that the material is that hard, but the way she writes her tests has such unclear wording that people do bad. There is a ton of weekly busy-work homework, but at least you can get 100s on them and that will help your grade a lot. But the way she wrote her tests was extremely frustrating
This class was difficult but only because there was a lot of information to keep up with. I did not like how the class was held in MyEconLab though. The interface was confusing at times. Exams are difficult but she grades fairly and gives partial credit for short answer questions. She is a good email communicator.
Attendance is optional and all of the notes are online, which is a plus. The homeworks in myEconLab would be reasonable if they weren't as long and repetitive, but they are all long repetitive, and graded strictly. Test questions are open-ended but graded for including specific criteria. The class isn't worth the work load.
This class isn't particularly hard, but you have to take it when you have time to do a ton of busy work. There are lots of dumb assignments, but they boost your grade so much that I got a C on the final and an A in the class. McClain is also an amazing communicator! She definitely explains econ in a way that non-econ majors can understand.
I'm in her COVID hybrid class, and I really dislike it. She just makes tests from MyEconLab's test bank questions and does not give us sufficient practice problems for the hand-mapping part of her exams. I come in-person regularly, and her worksheets don't really help. I wish we did more practice problems instead of one lecture a week. Disappointed
Dr. McClain puts a lot of time and effort into helping her students learn the material. She is the most prepared professor I've had in the MBA program so far. She makes the classes interactive and doesn't drone on from a powerpoint. If you have any questions, she responds quickly. Her tests are difficult to prepare for.
Avoid her at all costs. Her TR section had homework due every single weeknight. She is incredibly disorganized, her tests are frustrating and it takes 3+ weeks to get grades back. She sets ridiculously high standards while bragging about the vacations she's constantly going on. Her class will require you to seek therapy. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!
A terrible lecturer and unprepared for her own class, but she expects the absolute most from her students. There is homework due every day of the week, and not simple completion: it is difficult, time-consuming, and graded harshly. Her tests are confusing and you don't get credit if you don't say verbatim what she has in mind. Impossible. Avoid!!!!
Literally do NOT take this professor. She assigns daily, impossible homework assignments and if you can't read her mind verbatim for the answer she wants, she'll knock off so many points. She sends you on a wild goose chase through broken links and outdated sources. Her tests are impossible, she is careless, and she is always on vacation. STAY AWAY
If you can, do not take 4550 with McClain. This is the most time consuming class I have ever taken (it's a T/TH class and there's HW every night of the week), and she grades everything ridiculously hard. Not to mention she sends you on wild goose hunts to answer unrelated "web assignments." for the class. Also - wait a month for your test grade :)
Avoid her at all costs. McClain assigns homework 3-4 times a week and grades extremely vaguely. Her web assignments are filled with broken links and sends you on an internet scavenger hunt to find the data she wants. She grades extremely hard on her tests regardless of the validity of the answers unless it is exactly what her book says is correct.
I got an A in this class. In spite of it, I think this was the worst class I have taken at UGA. It seriously made me reconsider the international business comajor. Prof McClain is unprofessional, disorganized, and, worst of all, unstructured. What's learned in class is often not on the HW and often not on the tests. Lazy, lazy, lazy.
I love econ and this is still the worst class I've ever taken. Have never been more stressed about a class. She's a terrible lecturer to the point that paying attention in class doesn't help at all. Very unprepared & unhelpful when you ask questions. Had to teach myself every chapter outside of class. "Taught" 4 chapters in 4 classes for the final.
Dr. McClains seriously needs to realize that her students should come first. She has the tendency to show up to class late, and she is also very unorganized. Her class is boring and dull, and almost all of the class stopped showing up to class because it was so awful. She makes her tests too long and even tells you that you will be rushed. Avoid!!
I am usually not one to read or believe ratings on this website because they can be bias, but maybe I should have. Dr. McClain is a very difficult and unforgiving professor. If you are looking for the hardest possible class to take for ECON 2105H, this is the one. The tests are worth 15% each and they are made to be as hard as possible. DO NOT TAKE
This class is tough. I would not recommend taking it your last semester, as it requires a lot of time. There are a lot of homework assignments do to every week and they will take up a lot of time. You will have to figure some of the chapters out yourself and everything is graded harshly, with a curve at the end. The material itself is not easy.
Full-time job, actually full-time job is fewer hours because you need to allocate overtime here. Expect to spend at least 52 hours a week on this job, I mean class.
Professor is the worst lecturer I have ever seen. She teaches in the most confusing way and takes back roads to address the content of the class. There is 4 of the most unnecessary homework assignments per week in this class. Tests are impossibly hard and most is expected for you to learn on your own. She is unforgiving with the grading. AVOID.
Two words to describe this class: TIME VAMPIRE. The other reviews are right that she literally gives you a homework assignment EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. I've never met a professor more disrespectful of students' time. Her lectures are fine but she has an attitude that discourages participation since she treats you like you're dumb if you answer wrong.
I usually don't write these and mainly look but this teacher sucks. She is rude to all her students and kinda sits in front of class thinking we are all experts in this. She basically expects you to be a know it all. Econ 4040 was tons of work and something different was due every day. She teaches Tech kids so I guess we are supposed to be as smart
She gives you an amount of work to make sure that you are always working on it. If you want to learn Econ or find it interesting you will appreciate the work. If you have no interest I think you will hate it but it seemed hard to fail the class, just do the work. She worked with people on late assignments.
Dr. McClain's class involves a lot of work outside of lectures, and they are extremely important even though they aren't mandatory under the syllabus. Last-minute studying will get you a B or a C in this class. However, Dr. McClain is an extremely fair grader and gives opportunities for extra credit after each test to help with the low test scores.
100% DO NOT recommend. Tests incredibly hard, tons of homework, and lectures very dragged on and boring. Tests are around 60-70 questions for a 75 minute class, and it is not all multiple choice. I would look for a different professor, and if not, wait to take the class a different semester when there is a different professor available.
DO NOT TAKE! Her tests were not based on if you learned the material, but how fast you could answer the questions. Each test felt like the ACT. She just read off the slides and did not provide any useful information. She even took away one of our curves because the class average was so bad. Take someone else or do not take this class.
This professor is retiring so there's no point in this review, but McClain is a stubborn and rude professor. She was proud of 3.2 overall class GPA??? and refuses to round grades, even if students have been to every single class. An inconsiderate human being when it comes to her students.
She is the absolute worst. She is vulgar to her students. This class has so much work, with 4 to 5 weekly assignments. Plus, most work is entirely unnecessary. She never finishes teaching the chapter each week, so students are left to figure out the material themselves. She is super condensing, and she should just retire already!
