The books she chooses DO NOT help. Her lectures are pointless, and You end up teaching yourself the material. OUt of my years of college, this is by far the worst professor. Try teaching yourself Biochemistry! Her office hours go until 1am! STEER CLEAR
I never understood any of her lectures. Her exams are xtremeley difficult and most of the time have little or no connection with the lectures or book material. She is helpful in her office hours but will make you feel dumb, worthless and very very stupid.
6 people taking the final, 3 fail and 3 pass the class with C.... She tells that she will leave study question on the website, but those question are not match with the schedule. And she always test u on whatever she assume she teached. Taking her is #$%@
She is NOT an easy teacher, but does a good job at presenting a lot of information in an understandable way. She will answer questions and let you redo wrong test questions. You CAN get an A, I did.
Terrible. Loves to hear herself talk. Tries to use every word in the dictionary, but with no reason. Not helpful at all.

I JUST DID NOT GET IT, BUT I KNOW I AM NOT STUPID.
OMG this is one of the hardest classes I ever took. It was so confusing to take her class. She even had late office hours. One classmate stayed until like 2 AM with her (really!). Just take it at UCIr and at least it will be easier to understand.
The class is difficult but if you study you can get an A (ie. take advantage of the practice tests on her website especially the essay questions). She will stay as late as you want her to and is willing to answer all your questions. Be ready to work
Be prepared to work hard! Long tests, hard lab practicals. She offers lots of extra credit, make up exams and practice exams on her website. Do the practice exams, she reuses the essay questions. I recommend her. Enthusiastic professor.
Way better than Rodriguez. Anatomy is hard but she will reward those who put in the effort. Stay for the whole lab, see her at office hours, she uses the lab models on her tests, take photos of the slides and plastic models. I highly recommend her.
This is the hardest class. I didn't get anything.
she is unbeleivebly hard, no A's no B's in the whole class!!!!!!and she doesnt curve!!DO NOT TAKE HER EVER!!!!!!!!!
This is definitely a difficult class but besides its difficulty, she is quite a phenomenon. I absolutely admire her work and presentation and overall I have to give her an A for her way of teaching. Definitely take this class if u want to learn but be prepare to put an extra effort to earn that A!
Awful...She seemed to be enjoying herself speak rather than teach!

Intelligent teacher, very helpful when you come to her office and discuss about the class material with her. She will help you understand the material more easily. Even though her lecture is a little bit confusing, but if you work with her, you will do better on the tests.
she is a great lecturer but sometimes she goes too far and doesnt stop lecturing.she is very helpful and helps clarify difficult concepts but is kind of unorganized in her notes.it is hard to determine what is going to be on her tests exactly (which are very difficult) but her practice exams do help, IF YOU DO THEM. very difficult class. read: HARD
Dr. Schmeidler is a WONDERFUL teacher. Yes, she is hard. This is the hardest class I've ever had to take. But she lectures clearly, is more than fair and if you use the study guides on her website some of the test questions are the same or very similar. I highly reccomend her and would take her again!
This is the hardest class i ever take. I have GPA above 3.8 ,but, i hardly get C in the exams. The exam questions is hard and she grade very poorly. Now, only quarter stays and haven't drop the class. Don't take her ever!!
This lady has some major issues. She doesn't give a damn about her students; she just wants to prove it's her way or the hard way. Oh by the way, dont be surprised if you see questions on your exams regarding topics that have never been explained in the class. Take my advice and avoid her class. This is coming from a BIO major student with a 3.9GPA
Definitely this lady has a lot of major issues. She does not care about students and does not make life easy for any one. She has never seen the text book that assigned to the class and enjoys making exam questions that have never been explained in the class. Avoid her classes if you do not want to hurt your GPA. I had a 4.00 GPA before this class.
she is hard but she knows a lot.if you want to learn take her class
I would say that relative to other IVC professors, she's pretty hard-but if you are taking bio97/99,then u must be a biology major or someone going to pharmacy or medschool and once u transfer to those institutions, i will tell you that she is relatively easy compared to most of your professors! she's very helpful although somewhat disorganized.
I Had this class few years ago, before going to pharmacy school. it was very hard class but I was staying until 11 or 12 midnight during the lab periods. she stayed with me and some other students. I got all A's in her exam but I studied really hard, I brought my cat home to study for final lab and she allowed it. take good notes and read the book
Dont be fooled by these fake positive feedback! I mean come on,we all know that professor makes difference!Taking good notes & reading the book-that's crap! Textbook covers a lot and she did ask questions out of lecture.Bio major student dont only take 1 bio class in a semester! After transferin, you'll realize IVC bio course means nothing but a joke
Her lectures are extremely disorganized and unclear, and there is no curve in her class. Her test questions are random and comes from all over the place, and even things that she didn't cover in class. She's terrible. AVOID HER AT ALL COST!! im a straight A student, w/ a GPA of 3.87 and i barely get a C in her class.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!! SHE IS AWFULL. I DID NOT LEARN A THING, HER LECTURES WHERE VERY CONFUSSING, DID NOT MAKE SENSE, ALL OVER THE PLACE. JUST PLAIN AWFULL, AWFULL, AWFULL!!NOW I'M RETAKING THE CLASS WITH R. RODRIGUEZ, HE IS GREAT!!!
Very time consuming class. I'm an A student- got C in the class. Advice- quit your job before you take this class. Material is not hard- there is just a lot of it. Way too much to learn in one semester. Try to avoid the class if at possible. She is nice & funny and a good teacher but still hated the class.
Difficult course. I recommend you quit your job and devote your life to this class for the semester if you decide to take it. I worked my ass off and ended up with a 68%. Luckily the teacher was nice enough to give me a C-.
Schmeidler is a great professor. She took a subject I was dreading and made it interesting. The concepts could be confusing, but she used helpful analogies that aided my understanding. I found her to be tough, but fair. If you put in the time, you can get a good grade in the class. And just for the record, I worked full-time as well.
Extremely knowledgable professor, glad to know her.
Prof. Schmeidler knows her stuff, but doesn't really deliver it well. Her tests are really hard! Attend to class since she does not provide powerpoint slides. She is very flexible with deadlines. Make sure you visit her at her office hours because she likes company. She is quite boring and makes jokes that nobody understands...
Know her stuffs, test are really hard, makes you clarify every single word that seems vague, takes points off on everything, give pop quizzes so that's like attendance. She's a hater though. Go off on unrelated topics a lot. Uninteresting. Once again: hard test, not so hard assignments, doesnt teach very well though she knows her stuffs.
All take home tests can be done by anyone you want. Find a biology major who needs some cash. Pretty much worthless class and instructor, but I passed.
Great teacher. If you have the time, pay attention and do the studying necessary (like any other class) you will do well. Nothing ridiculously hard, just lots of terms/new information
This professor is not awful, but she is overly tough. Her lectures are interesting if a little bit all over the place. However, her teaching style is NOT for everyone. Her style is "discovery" meaning you have to discover for yourself. This is fine if you have a natural bent towards science, but not so much if you need more guidance.
She'll make you work hard, but you'll learn more from her than others - plus she's very nice. Hog her time during lab, pay attention to lecture & use the text to clarify but don't read the whole thing - too much info. Ask Q's, study the diagrams, and use her study guide and charts/lists from her website to prepare for exams - they are tough.
Dr. Schmeidler LOVES anatomy and loves teaching anatomy. She is extremely knowledgeable and if you make use of alone time with her (i.e. during lab) you will be well prepared for exams. (She also does pay attention to who stays longer in lab, and this will help you!) Her lab exams are hard but she offers a BUNCH of extra credit - take advantage!
Worst instructor I have ever encountered...lacks structure, organization & clarity. Book is merely a supplement. She will test you on items not mentioned in lecture or text. Take elsewhere if possible!!!
OMG Can you say Impossible? I have never taken a class where a professor jumps around so much and is so obscure about what she wants on the exams. She posts her old exams to study from but they do NOT help at all!! If you want to get an A her exams will take you 4 hours to finish. She will tell you herself that she fails half her students. BEWARE
This professor has become my academic hero. She's definitely tough but you could still get an A if you actually try. However this class isn't for the faint of heart. If you really want to know how a 4-year college bio class is really like then take her. She teaches at that level if not higher.
Most challenging, engaged, available, and fair professor I've ever had. I LOVED her class. Exams are brutal, but she never leaves you without an option to make up for mistakes and earn extra credit. She wants you to LEARN. I've never known a teacher to give so much time to her students, in the class and outside. A stellar woman.
Amazing!
Very knowledgeable professor. In order to do well in her class, you must learn how she teaches and how she ask questions on the exams. She tends to jump around during her lecture a lot so be prepared. Use textbook and other references to fully understand the subject since lecture notes alone is not enough to do well in her class. Good luck
She apparently falls behind every semester but last semester was just ridiculous. Literally half of the semester's worth of info was crammed into the last three or so weeks of class. No joke. Don't be surprised if you can't manage a B even with a light schedule. She is helpful during office hours though, but you would have to go in almost every day
You must keep up in Dr. Schmeidler's class and not rely on lectures alone to teach you the material. Studying the text closely each and every week is ESSENTIAL. Asking questions consistently is essential (and she will answer you quickly, clearly, and without shaming you). Lazy students do not belong in this class. Serious students will thrive.
Prof. Schmeidler was a good professor. She lectures a lot, and doesn't leave as much time for lab. Her tests are very hard, but as long as you complete her essay/diagram questions in a very detailed way, and get most of the multiple choice right, you will get an A.
Great lectures! She knows her stuff and GIVES her time generously. She was willing to meet with me on her day off and she opened up extra labs too- just because we asked. I've never worked so hard for a decent grade, but she gives the students as much as she expects from them. No slackers will pass this class, but you will learn a lot if you try!
Anatomy is an incredibly hard class to begin with! She gives examples of old tests on her website, but the tests you take in class are NOTHING like those. You will work your ass off. She is a nice person, she'll help you, offers some EC, but her lectures are intense, she talks to you as though your colleagues not students.
If you're looking for an "easy" anatomy class then you're going to be looking for a very long time. It's just not possible to make anatomy easy. If you want a teacher that is very knowledgeable and helpful then take Dr. Schmeidler. She is ridiculously fair and she offers tons of opportunities to improve your grade. She's great!
LOVED HER CLASS. Pro: Extremely knowledgeable and interesting. Offers TONS of extra credit and regrades on exam. Genuinely wants to teach u the material stays extra after class and office hr to help you. Con: unorganized notes, can be condescending at times, tests are DIFFICULT due to free resp ques. Recommend: do the old exams and get to know her.
She's super knowledgeable yet super hard! Doesn't give you a list of things to look for but instead says, "dissect the cat and find whatever you can find." She's mostly gone during lab, so you'll have to sit and wait for her to come back or ask other students around you. I wouldn't take her unless you already know your anatomy material.
Very poor teacher. If she doesn't like your class she won't properly teach. She will lecture for hours but go off topic from time to time. When it come to lab, you're on your own, she's hardly in the class to help you with your questions. Her exams are pretty hard since she tries to put so many chapters into one exam.
Her notes are extremely sparse. Go to class or prepare to be completely lost. Doesn't give you step by step on concepts. Approaches class like it's a review. I'm currently taking this class, I am lost. I've taken upper division class not this confusing. I would enjoy it with a different professor hands down.
Nice professor but tests are difficult as they are not based on lecture or text. In fact I would not even buy the book. Do go in for office hours and do extra credit or regrades.
She is nice, but hard to follow, is unorganized and doesn't even use the book. Doesn't give study guides or a clue on what to study for tests so you have to just study at random and the test are inconsistent to what she teaches. She does, though, let you re-do some of the questions you get wrong on the test by going to her office.
I did not know what she was on about for 99% of course but if you go to office she regardes, gives you points...I got a B and I could not even tell you what the class was about. But grades are all they care about, I hope:(
AVOID. Quizzes every week on reading. There are 3 exams + final and 2 term papers and a presentation. She goes off on random tangents during lecture and her lecture definitely does not coincide with the reading or the exams. You go into the exams severely unprepared. She might have a doctorate but she should not be teaching.
I think professor Schmeilder is very informative, creative, and caring professor. She accommodates greatly with students yet takes no slack. She knows a lot; a true professional for the sciences.
She is very unorganized and doesn't use the book. Reading questions due and quizzes every week. She gets off on tangents so often, its hard to follow along with her lectures. She does give a lot of extra points on tests though! If you actually want to learn, don't take her. If you just want an A, go ahead! Doesn't post grades online either!
Professor Schmeidler's anatomy class was one of those rare, true learning experiences. Yes, you will have to work hard. Yes, you will need to commit to hours of study time. The best thing you can do for yourself is come in having read the chapters, be present for lecture every time, and STAY for all of lab to ask her questions! It will be worth it!
I took her for human genetics, and overall it is a doable class. She can go on rants, but the majority of quizzes and tests come from group discussions where you post your own questions. Memorize the questions online, and memorize the topics she emphasizes. Overall, she can be a tough grader, but she really takes pride in her students' successes.
She seems like a nice enough woman, but as a professor I cannot stand her. She goes on unrelated rants constantly, her lectures are unorganized, she is very uncommunicative about what material you should know but that she did not go over in class. She prefers to talk about grammar and study techniques instead of actual anatomy lecture material.
This class was really unorganized. Lecture material did not really reflect what was on the tests. She writes her own short questions and her instructions that was given on the test is really confusing. Uses up the full class time and goes on really long rants that do not really relate to the material. Tough grader and does not show you the grade.
A very challenging but rewarding class. I highly recommend recording every lecture and adding to your notes because you will miss a lot of important info during class. Detailed notes are key. She offers tons of extra credit ... probably enough to raise your grade by an entire letter. She wants you to succeed. Put in the effort and you will!
She is such a great person BUT her class is so hard. Lectures are 2.5 hrs when its suppose to be 50 min and rest lab. No study guide and the tests have many free response Qs. Practicals aren't worth as much so even though I did good on practical I'm barely passing with a C :( Only 8 of us left out of 36. She dose care tho. Study hard and good luck!
Hands down the best professor I have ever had. Anatomy is hard regardless of which professor you take. She actually explains the concepts to you so they make sense and are she makes it easier for you to apply those concepts. Use all the resources she post online. She uses the same exact free response questions as her old exams. Alot of Extra credit
Her class may seem overwhelming but if you make use of her term study guides, lab guides, past exams especially free response questions and extra credit then her class is actually not bad at all. I'd suggest use the book as a supplement only and use the resources on her website as a way to give more focus to what you need learn from her lectures.
Do not take this class thinking it will be an easy A. This professor wants to be sure you are dedicating time and effort. Go to office hours as much as possible. The textbook is not always correct but you need to be in close relation with the professor to get the grade u wanted. There is some extra credit but review info with her prior to the test.
You thought you did well in every single of assignments, but this teacher requires a lot of one on one relationship, or you will fail on the final!
I graduated from UCI w/ a BS. Already took anatomy at UCI, but had to take it again for lab. Lectures are dense & boring. Hardly explains anything in lab. Exams are ridiculously hard, w/ free response questions that only someone w/ a PhD in anatomy could answer. Ridiculous. Only good thing was she let us retake exams for half the credit we missed.
Dr. Schmeidler does not make Anatomy tough. It's a tough subject to begin with - and it should be, especially for prospective medical professionals. She makes herself available if you ask, and genuinely cares about students' learning. The book is your best friend and her old exams found online will give you a good idea of the content she tests on.
This is a hard class because of how it is taught, not because of the material. She is very kind, helpful and wants you to succeed, but it is very difficult to understand how she teaches. Although she is helpful, she expects you to know the material as wells she does and does not seem to know how to teach the material on an intro class level.
Professor Schmeidler is the BEST professor I have had in my semesters of college. Anatomy alone is a grueling course that requires so much practice and preparation for exams, however she makes this class as fun and as smooth as possible with lots of interactive jokes and multiple hands on demonstrations. The most genuine caring professor out there
A kind professor who is always willing to help however this is a very difficult course, not really due to the material but in how the lectures were not taught clearly or in a focused enough manner. If you're taking this course online during the pandemic please be prepared, very heavy workload and exams are HARD. Definitely can get an A if you try.
This course was chaos. By far the worst teacher I've ever experienced. Tests had topics we didn't even cover, marks you down for using different vocab even though GOOGLE was the only resource, assignments have no clear direction, never directly answers a question, puts students down when they were asking for help. Over 50% of the class dropped.
I've only had her for a few weeks and she is the worst professor I have ever had. Awful at adapting to online learning, humiliates students for asking questions then proceeds to go on hour-long rants about that question. HUGE time waster. She expects us to watch 6+ hours of lecture per week, then spend 4 hours on Zoom 2 times a week PLUS HOMEWORK.
Lacks basic teaching skills. Clearly cannot handle online class format. Discouraging towards students. Refuses to show grades and upcoming assignments on the course website???? Wastes time with recorded lectures AND regular live lectures. Unorganized class site. Everyone is always confused on expectations. When clarifying, she just repeats herself
Anatomy is a tough course, but I wouldn't take it with this professor. She means well and is passionate but expects you to watch hours and hours of lecture outside of class only to do the same thing IN class. Expectations on drawings were never clear. Asking for clarification is not helpful and you were not able to see your grade. No assignment tab
I think this class would have been so much better if it was in person.
Vague instructions for assignments low class averages. Really expects you to read and watch all 4+ hours of lecture prior to class. Wont know grade until the class is over. Exams are hard Doesn't answer questions, and gives smart responses, wont accept being wrong. Claims to have resources on page, but they are dead links, She is nice hard tho
I think that a lot of these reviews reflect how the professor taught only online. Just because this course is at a community college doesn't make it easy. Make sure to read the book, don't be afraid to ask questions because I wish I started doing that earlier! Be an active participant and you will do well. Theres tons of extra credit opportunities
She doesn't give you clear and exact study guides. She has you study from all her past exams and you have to hope you studied the right material because anything could be on the test (even if it wasn't on the study guides). Lectures are so boring and really hard to get through. She makes corny jokes and people pretend to laugh.
Anatomy is a tough class. Don't expect to get an A without putting in the effort. Her lectures are long but if you know what you're looking for it's not too bad. Have copies of the previous exams out during the lecture. GO TO THE EXAM STUDY SESSIONS. They helped me a lot. Try to love and apply the stuff you learn. You'll have a more enjoyable time.
She tests on topics we have not covered in class yet. She grades unreasonably hard and her quiz questions always try to trick you. She goes off on useless tangents that will not help you in the class at all. Over half the class has dropped within the first five weeks. Do not recommend this class to anyone unless you want them to fail.
I have taken numerous courses at IVC and UCSD, and this was by far the worst class I have ever taken. Ms Schmediler has insanely difficult tests. For example, she puts questions on the quizzes that we have not gone over in class and marks you down for grammar and spelling?? Insanely horrible class and professor. Boring lectures as well.
She is really understanding
This course is very difficult. Lectures are long and tests are very hard. Be prepared to study everything and spend hours studying outside of class. She is a nice professor and means well, but she is a tough grader and very unorganized. Make sure to do all of the extra credit available. Do not take this class if you think it is going to be easy.
I have never been in such an unorganized class. I never know when stuff is due or what the homework is. Her lectures are boring and don't explain the material well, the slide shows doesn't help. Right after her exam, we usually have lecture and she would start teaching us HALF (or more than half) the material that was on her exam.
Don't take this class. The class format is very messy and confusing. The teacher is passive aggressive and does not explain the tasks well. In the exam you will find things that were never studied. The teacher can be strict and knows many things, but she is not good at teaching.
save yourself and do not take this professor. She is unorganized and you will never know when assignments are due bc she does not talk about them nor does the syllabus have them. only thing good about her is that she lets you redo assignments for full points but gives horrible feedback and will not give you insights on how to do the assignment
Professor Schmeidler is honestly the best professor that I have had in a while. Yes, the class is tough but all anatomy courses are. She is willing to stay after class for any test, office hours, and study time. She provides a lot of extra credit opportunities so that advantage! She is also a fair (or even easy) grader as long as you put in effort.
You definitely have to put in the work to get a good grade in the class, I ended with an A but we had no idea what our grades were the entire semester. This class needs a lot of time dedicated to it if you want to succeed, but overall, if you put in the work and time, you will come out knowing a lot about anatomy.
I really loved Professor Schmeidler. She genuinely cared for her students and wanted us to learn the content rather than just memorize it. The course is very difficult but she lets you know what is going to be on each exam and prepares you for an easy test day. Use the resources she gives you, do the extra credit, show up to lab and you'll be fine!
This professor needs retirement. She minepentate how student should act in class like in high school rather than how science actually works. She is an old lady but very disrespectful on students who are failing. I try not to compare my grades with students, but she does. I don't recommend this person who she is trying for students to be.
This professor just doesn't care about students who are trying to and doesn't care about this rate my professor as long as she earns the money to work at IVC. She doesn't care about if students who are failing and who doesn't seem to understand the course or not. Also, she likes to teach the class like high school. Listen lady this is college.
This professor is very knowledgeable however, she doesn't like students who are not trying. She wants all students to succeed but how is that possible when most of the students in class are confused and not taught very thoroughly. How is a student able to pass if she is not even teaching that was even on the lecture. Just don't waste time here.
Don't waste time just don't take her. There are plenty of other great instructors and professors out there. She yells at students by the way if half the class is confused. Professor this is college and why? students are just frustrated the way you teach. Maybe you need to reconstruct your teaching skills again. Also just retire and quit IVC.
Unclear assignment instructions, passive aggressive when asked for clarification and just repeats herself. Exam content is taught after the exam. Puts things in gradebook very slowly.
I may not paid attention at the first 2 weeks. When the exam came around, it was difficult for me to focus. She had a good rating when I enrolled.. like maybe 3-4 stars, then I said oh yeah definitely in the right class. But however, she tends to lecture a lot. Her tutors weren't much of a help if I'm being honest, I wish bio could've been online.
omg, She embarrassed me by yelling at me. I told her things, yet she over here yelled at me and some gal. poor gal was doing work on her ipad or something. But this teacher yelled at us for not getting up.
HARD, sometimes unclear/not fully structured, a lot of independent work/self-teaching is a MUST. Lots of extra credit opps and flexibility if you miss something. Ask questions- the teacher will not tell you outright, unless you ask. Everyone frequently confused about what to study, but follow syllabus structure to pace and lean on others/youtube!
Very much an info-dump professor. Slides consist of tables copy-pasted from the textbook with hundreds of terms you're expected to just memorize with little to no explanation. Her advice usually consists of "Memorize the important parts". Lady, I don't know anything about the subject, I don't know what's important. that's why I'm taking the class.
Her priority is student success. She will stay in class into the morning hours if there is a student who needs more time in lab or to take an exam. She will work with students in the event of an emergency. Lectures are engaging and humorous. Exams are indicative of the material. Old exams are posted and are very helpful. Lots of EC offered.
Dr. Schmeidler is one of the best professors I've ever had. The class is HARD but she gives SO MANY points for extra credit that it's possible to pass with an A, I had a C at the beginning and passed with an A. She truly cares about her students & will notice who is actually trying. Study the old exams, master the histology and do all the HW!
