Her lectures are clear and easy to understand. Is always very willing to help and answer everyone's questions in a respectful manner. Overall, highly recommended, although it can get a bit annoying when she spends way too much time overexplaining things.
Great teacher but sometimes difficult to understand.
An excellent teacher. She's very direct and clear about all her lectures. I had fun in this class
Sorry guys the previous rating was for the wrong class.. Mrs. Skelton was clear, loud and repetitive, but was an okay teacher

i have never been bad at math!!! but with this teacher i haven't learned anything !!! Are there any students that are willing to tutor?????????
SHE IS SOOOOOOOOOO ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!! THE ONLY WORD IN HER VOCABULARY IS ESSENTIALLY!!!
I liked her. SHe is very nice, and will give you whatever help you need. I have not liked or understood math for a few years now, but with her I understand everything and dont think math is nearly so bad. She is a great teacher.

In general she is nice person. If you want to get A in her class, you have to study a looooot!!
I had Dr. Skelton for 210, 124, and 125. Got good grades in all, learned the material. She was very helpful and she explained everything in great detail. She is a live-wire and gets more information out in one hour than most math ins. do in two. Classes are entertaining and fun. Highly recommend her for calculus and statistics.
Great teacher, very down to earth! I have taken her for 3 classes and she is very understanding and willing to help. You do have to do the work to get a good grade but she is always willing to lend a helping hand.
I dont know what you all are talking about! She's a cool teacher BUT her grading is redicilous!! If you mess around even once she will hate you and give you bad grades, I asked for some extra credit because I was not doing good and she said no. Thats messed up. Worst profes. at HCC >>DONT TAKE HER!!! SHES BAD!!!!
She is not an easy teacher. You really have to study and shes goes thru the material quickly. Her husband is Jason Ramirez who also teaches at HCC.
Tough grader, but fair. Make sure you do your homework and study for your tests! She explains everything very well, and she's patient. But, she expects you to do your part - don't expect to slack in her class. If you want to learn your math, highly recommended. If you want to get out of math easily, find someone else.
Ms.Skelton is a very good teacher! She explains everything really well. Some people might say she is a hard grader, but I think that if you show her that you're not a slacker, then you're good to go!!!
Cool in person but she is a very tough grader. If you aim for 4.0 or cannot learn Maths fast. DO NOT take her class.
She is a hard teacher, and she gives students lots of assignment.
Ms. Skelton is a good teacher overall. She does go too fast sometimes in her lecturing... taking good notes is sort of difficult. The use of colored pencils helps! She is a very down to earth lady. I'd take another class from her.
Hard to take good notes. Color coordinated notes help. She gives no homework. just hardcore self studying
Awesome teacher-though hard class, but fair in grading, lots of homework!.very patient and ready to help you with math problems. Will definately take her on calculus series.
She is a cool person/teacher. Very helpful when in need of help, but lots of homework! She is very strict I believe, but grading is pretty okay.. Toughest parts are her tests! And i agree that sometimes it is hard to take notes, and learn the material because she goes too fast and does not take time to do more examples.
Skelton is a tough grader, fair and she gives extra credit sometimes. expect homework everyday and pop quizzes. The class is not hard as long as you come to class and really work hard, ask questions when you dont get it, she's a great resource! She can be alittle intimidating BUT she is funny, She likes to talk about her daughter alot:)
NOT CLEAR, AND CHEAP IN GRADING
Hard on grading and light on homework which makes the tests difficult unless you do more on your own or are very good at math. In Math 81, 91 I earned 3.5+, with her I barely passed the class, and now in my 100 level class I'm back to 3.5+. Avoid if possible. I'm lucky, I heard quite a few students didn't pass at all.
She has the most uninviting voice when she teaches. She has an attitude while teaching and doesn't like to clarify material if you don't understand. She's a waste of tax dollars and space in the atmosphere!!! She makes you feel inadequate and inept, not helpful, inviting or welcoming. Don't bother with questions, she rolls her eyes and throws a fit
She said the text book is wrong and useless. She also stated that the book was written by students. She's a dumb example of a teacher! She fails to explore diverse methods of learning with the class. She gets upset when you ask her for help.
Lets just say she was the worst professor at HCC.She expects so much out of a freshman level course. If you can take someone else anyone is better. She is rude, disrespectful, and her voice is so annoying.I love math and she made me dread coming to class each and everyday.Even if you work hard don't expect higher than a B.Worthless professor!!
She's a good teacher. She taught me in Calculus 3; at first I thought she would be really tough but I was wrong! She is capable of teaching the material. Her tests are pretty straight forward. Do the homework .. she grades it like if it is a real test.
really good teacher helps when you have questions and uses web assign which is a great system
It is very hard to get a good grade in her class. Homework is not mandatory, but recommended. Her voice is kinda annoying. She has a bunch of pop quizzes which will make you paranoid when you come to class... I do not recommend this teacher at all.
The teacher expects you to understand the homework, if you were to ask her for help she would be to lazy to go over the material and leaves you more confused. You also have random pop quizzes on any day so beware. Over all not a very good teacher. If you like teaching yourself go ahead other wise sign up for a different teacher.
I've been at Highline for a ridiculous amount of time (b/c of Running Start then after graduating) and have experienced a lot of different teaching styles, so I feel as though I am a fair judge of professors. And this woman is UNDOUBTEDLY the WORST professor I've ever had. Took an intro class, read book, even typed all assignments=FAIL. DO NOT TAKE.
Many people might have dropped it, but doesn't mean her teaching wasn't great! It was probably all of the formulas we had to memorize. But in the end she's a great teacher and the class wasn't hard at all, our class did have some trouble with the pop quizzes, but hey they're pop quizzes for a reason.. LOL And best of all, NO HOMEWORK!!! :D
Do not take this teacher, she is horrible. always gets off topic. Very hard to pay attention to her. Tests are way different than her homework. Will regret every day if you take her.
Good class. Worked in industry found it useful. If you work on assignments class is straight forward. Currently taking she does a good job explaing. She does a good job putting up with the lazy, whiney, i dont want to work hard stjdents
an alright teacher but I would not take her again; she's a bit unconsistant with using the symbols in class. She rarely gives you full credit on anything, there is a ton of homework that is due every Monday. If you go into her office she says that she will help you but in turn ends up making you feel like you're the stupid one. An A is possible.
She eases into the topic, but the class moves quickly. She provides numerous helpful examples. Homework is optional, but provides good practice. Her explanations are very clear, and she is really helpful during office hours. Tests are pretty easy and seem to focus on understanding fundamental concepts. Really nice person. Take her calc-1 class.
Along with her voice being annoyed, she often trails off talking about irrelevant things. Her in-class lessons are not very clear. Her tests are fairly hard. However, she's willing to help you during office hours. You're most likely to get an answer but still be confused after getting help. Overall, I wouldn't recommend taking her class.
Her tests are so pretty easy. But engage in class conversation and ask questions IN CLASS, visit her during office hours too, she likes that and seems to favor you a little more. Her voice is pretty annoying but it's hard to explain. An amount of self-studying and paying 100% to her lessons in class will allow you to understand the concepts.
Class overall isn't so bad. Skelton is a good professor. She is dedicated to helping students and she is very clear. Her class was very enjoyable! I would for sure recommend her!
4.0 is easy to get if u study hard and understand what she teaches you in class. She's really nice.
She's honestly one of the best math teachers I've had. I was a bit nervous to have her because of the rating she had on this site, but thankfully, it was misleading. She's very energetic and spirited and I learned way more than I thought I would. She's very helpful and her tests are fair. The only bad thing is that her final is worth ALOT.
One of the best math teachers I've ever studied with. I learned a lot from her class. If you study hard and pay attention on class everytime, you will easily get high grade. I got 4.0 :)
She's a pretty nice teacher and an easy grader. Does not deduct points when you make "stupid" mistakes. She's very clear notes and lectures. HW not required but there are suggested problems. two 50 point quizzes and two 100 point tests + a final worth 200 point. totals 500 points.
Kate is a fantastic teacher. I would go out of my way to have her as an instructor again.
Skelton is a very good teacher. She explains things so clear and has hand outs that will she will go through with you step by step. She is very clear with the materials. Coming to her office hour was incredibly helpful because she dumbs it down really good. Work hard and you'll do fine.
She's definitely not easy, but she will make sure you know your stuff by the end of the class. Go to office hours whenever you can, and she'll gladly help you! I loved her classes and would love to take her again sometime in the future!
It is hard to attend her lectures because she talks as if she should be teaching five-year-olds, but she used mathematical terminology that made her teaching style hard to adjust to. If you need Math 98 and can take this class with a different professor, do so.
Good at making the pieces come together so you get the "That totally makes sense." moment
Katherine, while loving the subject of math, has a difficult time relating the subject to the students. Often times during a lecture she would get off topic and never come back to the subject. Her enthusiasm helped wake up in the morning, but she lectured as if to children, when some mathematical terms thrown in randomly to make it more confusing.
Her lectures are clear. Sometimes, if you don't get a thing, stop her right away and she is willing to explain it to you. Meeting her during the office hours is good for you. If you can do the homework she gives, you are able to handle the test, since they are kind of same concepts.
Great teacher, if you see lower rating in the past, she has gotten better! Very open to students (sometimes goes on tangents though), upbeat, and friendly. I always looked forward to this class every day.
Very up beat and enthusiastic. Very clear in her lectures and is willing to stop and explain until the student gets it. Shows concern and compassion during office hours. She will Not make you feel stupid if you ask a dumb question. She gives easy to follow and clear hand outs. I would, with out a doubt take a class with her again
Skelton's lectures requires you to go over the specific concept prior to coming into class, because otherwise you would be confused. The homework assignments are all online on Webassign, except you would still need your book to go over the concepts. There are 3 unit exams and one final exam. Skelton is willing to help you out if you ask her.
Horrible teacher. Can't teach or relate. Talks about canvas all the time, and doesn't give study guides
I wish every math instructor was as organized and clear as Skelton. She had us do some amazing exercises to challenge our negative beliefs about our math abilities. At first I thought it was going to be lame, but it really helped me. She's really gracious and kind - no question is a dumb question.
Out of all the years I've been going to highline, this is honestly the worst instructor I've ever had If you come late to class you will be expected to come office hours for the handouts, she offers no partial credit on tests, and makes you take a separate calculator and and no calculator exams, and gives a lot of homework Beware of this instructor
Love her organization and her approachability. Her tests are tricky but she helps you understand concepts inside out. Wish I could have her for the rest of my classes.
She's excellent! Very clear, organized, and precise. Creates a really positive learning environment where no one is afraid to ask questions. The class will be a little difficult, but if you try hard you will do fine. Office hours are great to go to, very helpful outside of class.
She is just a rude person. Made some students feel stupid when they ask her questions in class and even I experienced during office hours. Saw many students try very hard and feel helpless because her attitude, but then she says ask me questions if you dont understand. Lots of students didnt want to ask questions because she is rude in her response
I have taken 151 and 152 from other instrutors but she is by far the most knowledgeable. Finally a college level math course where the instructor has stamdards and where the student has to earn his or her grade. Loved the course.
Even though she's great at teaching us the basic stuff, she is bad at teaching more difficult questions that shows up in the test. Also, she doesn't give practice exams or any review time for the exams. I went to her after class for my grade but she didn't give me a good advice. Try taking other teachers for Math 141
She taught easily, but the exam is really hard!
class preps were easy, homework mediocre, exams hard.
She's good at teaching basic problems but she doesn't explain how to solve more difficult problems. She expects you to know how to solve the difficult problems if you know how to solve basic form of that question. Also, she gave out homework (more than 50 questions) before the final exam so you won't have time to study for the exam.
Ms Skelton's enthusiasm about math comes across in her lectures, which helps in communicating the concepts. Since some topics are hard to grasp, try not to miss class. If you put in the effort, you will pass. Take the class seriously, by trying to study 1hr+ everyday; do your best not to miss anything on the take home/web assignments/discussions.
honestly she is a very exam swayed grader and most of your grade will come from exams but the exams are NOT based on really hard questions. Since i am a more exam skewed person I like her a lot and she does not give a lot of HW, maybe takes 1-3 hours a week. HIGHLY recommend taking her for any class.
if you want a good grade NEVER take it with her. she is so hard tough graded, and no extra credit
she is rude with students
so bad
TERRIBLE TEACHER! this lady is a teacher but can't teach. a mathematician but can't do math. all she talks about is how she has diabetes, her daughter, and her past life that nobody cares about. I gotta good grade in her class, but i hated every second of it. trust me, look for other math teachers before signing up for her class.
Talks a lot about her personal life, rants, and gets distracted from her lectures. Exams weights at 80% of grade, but they are very easy as long as you study your homework and notebook. She explains things well and also focuses on important and relevant concepts that we will use later on in the future, which is really helpful. A lot of extra credit
Awful teacher, extremely rude and her teaching style is hard to follow. Would not recommend her to anyone.
Awful teacher. Don't take classes with her if you have other options even if it's online.
She shows lots of enthusiasm during lectures and generally brings the mood of the classroom up well. Homework is done on webassign and is due on Mondays.
Teaching style focuses a lot on "why" and repetition. If you're a generally good student, you'll do well. Made class comfortable. 80% of grade exam based, but tbh wasn't that bad. Make sure you don't miss points bc of easy mistakes, she emphasizes details a lot. Do your homework and go to class and you'll be good. Got away with not reading book.
Do not take her. Most of her grading (about 80%) was based on 3 exams + final and you're basically gonna fail if you don't do well on those. Also SUCKS at teaching. Made me cry. Biggest waste of time and energy. Lots of people in my class failed/retook the class. I am not exaggerating. Trust me, it was awful.
Her lectures can be disengaging. She likes to ramble and talk a lot about real-world applications that were more advanced than the material we were covering. She cares and likes to help make sure that you understand what's going on personally. A handful of extra credit applied very generously to the exam category.
I do not recommend her class. I could not watch her lectures during this quarter -I could not stand the lip smacking every word. Im not to judge her possible disability, but I could not focus in her lectures at all . You will be docked on exam points even if you have the answer and get the concept but didnt write it how she wants it
Be prepared to fail.
OK LISTEN. DON'T TAKE THE CLASS. The teacher is horrible. She gets off-topic in lecture so often. There are only 3 tests which either gonna give you a good grade or straight garbage. It's just better to take choose another professor if you are able to do it.
80 percent of the grade is based on exams. Online exams were more stressful than it needed to be. Other than the exams, there is a lot of homework and unnecessary assignments (peer group assignments, extra activities) that take up a lot of time, but isn't worth much to your grade if you bomb an exam. Do yourself a favor; don't take her class.
Her exam format is bad, her audio fluctuates, so be prepared to strain your ears. She assigns tons of homework worth nothing really in time for finals. And lastly, if you make a mistake on the final exam, your grade is doomed.
Dont get registered if youre not ready to fail and extra cash that you dont want it! It doesnt matter how smart you were in other math classes! I had straight 4! For the three maths classes before that
HORRIBLE!!! The way she grade is awful. Its so unfair. 75% of the grade is exam. Its really hard to watch and thoroughly understand her videos. Half of the class nearly fail. DONT RECOMMEND TAKING THIS CLASS.
This class is near impossible! I am a really good student, I have never taken a class this hard in my life. The exams weigh so heavily on your grade and assignments do noting! I had a 98% before the first exam and then after I had 76% ;( she is not a good professor, dont get me wrong she is nice but she doesnt teach anything during zoom.
TERRIBLE professor. Extremely annoying. Tough graded. Zoom meetings are the worst. Waste of time. Homework and points very unnecessary. NEVER take her.
Her grading makes no sense and is so inconsistent. 20 point assignment worth 1 point while a 7 question assignment is worth 7 points. Has pointless group assignments for an online math course. Mostly be prepared to not understand your grade the entire class and hope you do enough to pass.
Yeah, she gives a lot of homework. But on the bright side if you take good notes and study efficiently, her lectures and homework really do prepare you for the exams. Also the assignments on how to improve study habits have truly changed my educational career. Just remember, "learning lessons are just blessings disguised as roadblocks at first."
No study guide for exams. Just on sentence on what they will be over. Her grading makes zero sense since a lot of assignments are worth 1 point for some reason. Her online lectures are very difficult to listen too. She leaves typos in what she post. At one point she mentioned to review an answer key for a wrong answer and there was no answer key.
She unpublished our 141 canvas. I wont be able to go back and review things. This isn't a class that that take once and done. I still have 151 and so forth that based on precalculus 1. If you aren't good at math is recommend not to take her canvas.
whatever you do! DO NOT TAKE HER! she is the most unreasonable professor ever! she grades you on the notes you take, you have to copy down 10+ examples every chapter, plus write out every proof for every equation which is so dumb!!! she is so unflexible and her smacking in lecture videos will drive you crazy!
She's alright. Office hours are useful and she explains most things pretty well. 40% of your grade comes from exams so ask questions. Plenty of extra credit points here and there which is nice. You could really like the way she talks or don't. Notes are graded but if you have everything you'll be fine. Overall a very typical college professor.
Exams are worth 40% of your grade. For some reason assigns group projects in a math class. Lectures are made so terribly. Avoid taking this teacher at all costs.
Very understanding and reasonable!
She is not good
Katherine is a nice lady however not very forgiving nor understanding when it comes to grading. Her exams (2 midterms and a final) are worth 75% of the total grade and are loaded with far too many questions for the given time. Her questions are often challenging and require a deeper level of knowledge than we were taught. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER!
She is very clear with her expectations but is also understanding. She used an open access textbook which I liked. Some sections can be confusing and have errors since it's a free resource. Easy to contact outside of class. Overall great instructor that wants you to succeed and cares about teaching in community college.
I took this professor Spring 2022 and by far the worst class I have ever taken. I go to UW now and taken Math classes here and they are way easier than what she expected from us. I had to drop the class because the stuff she teaches and the homework never correlates to the exams. Highline should be ashamed they let her teach. Avoid at all costs!!
I would say she's a pretty standard math teacher that wants to make sure her kids receive a proper understanding of the material. Her videos and worksheets were pretty helpful. She gave a lot of extra credit and partial points for exams. I'm taking calc 4 now and am grateful I had her. Go to office hours and come out understanding the material.
I would not advise taking a class with Skelton if you care about grades. She gives little to no feedback and is rude.
First of all she weighs her exams 75% and they are barely anything like the homework. Then she is such a picky grader. I spend hours and hours trying to learn the concept but can't because lecture videos (that are not hers) do not explain step by step. Only take her if you are okay with being miserable. There is 0 to very minimal extra credit.
DO NOT take this professor if you care about you're grades. 75% of you're grade is based on exams, the homework does not correlate with what will show up on the test you will be completely relying on youtube and self learning. Unless you are well versed already In Calculus or on a math team that covers calculus prior to taking the class don't take.
gg guys any other professor for math.
Take anybody else besides her. I promise you, you will re-think your entire life trying to take a class with her. A student in the class asked her if she curved and she said "it does not reflect your learning if she curved". I spent hours trying to learn these concepts. Miserable. She should not be teaching.
Personally would avoid it. Lectures are very easy to follow, but grading is not taken lightly. Hardly any extra credit and room to improve your grade. Testing is very heavy and measured ridiculously.
No extra credit, terrible answers, and she will ruin your grade if you take her. She apparently struggled in math when she was in college which is hard to believe because her grading criteria is the worst. I left every exam feeling like I got at least 70% but then she'd give 50% with a fake help email. Over half the class dropped by the end.
Grade is based 99% on exams, toward end of class no need to even do the homework as your grade is pretty much set already. Homework does not even reflect what's on the exam nor is it good practice for it. Take anyone else save yourselves
Anyone else besides her. She does not curve, no extra credit, just exams that are much harder than the homework.
Would not suggest. Tests look barely anything like the homework.
DO NOT take this professor. If you made a mistake on an assignment, she is not the type of person who would change your grade if you asked to fix the errors. She said once she has graded the assignment, it will be on their permanently. No extra credit either is even more crazy, and ESPECIALLY the exams, they are nothing compared to the homework.
Tests are 50% of the overall grade and the homework is VERY different from the tests. Make sure to do all the class activities if online, it'll for sure help since your test grades may be low no matter how much you study. If this class is required for your major and all other classes are taken, wait till the next quarter for a better teacher!
Clear expectations, great lectures, moderate homework load. Maybe a little tough with grading, but otherwise a great professor who genuinely enjoys mathematics and teaching. She made Calculus II a little easier to manage. Also gives helpful advice and shares personal experience outside of class.
Avoid taking this woman's class if possible. I've never had a professor so difficult to deal with, it almost felt like she was out to insure all of her students failed her course. she assigned unnecessary amount of homework and quizzes all for her exams to be completely off course from the examples she provides. HORRIBLE, worst professor.
It amazes me there are any ratings other than AWFUL. This teacher single handedly stopped me from graduating on time due to her selfishness, inability to TEACH, and her ability to have no compassion for her students. In all of my years being a student, I have NEVER had a worse teacher than Ms.Skelton. She has forever scarred my college experience.
This professor is absolutely tremendously terrible. She does not know how to teach and when you ask for help she literally answer's your question with another question. Also, she says that you need to spend about 15 hours pre week to pass her class will believe it or not you are going to have to put in more time then 15 hours.
This professor teaches nothing and general curriculum for general courses but exams cover way more material than she teaches
Avoid this class if possible. Exams are nothing like the homework, and the professor doesn't budge on grades. Unstuck study could be helpful for prep, but this course is a struggle overall.
This teacher will help when you ask, but her class is veryyyyy difficult. she reads straight from the book and doesn't give many example problems for visual learners like me.
She's nice, but her course has been completely unforgiving. Noticed that nearly half of her students had dropped within the first couple of weeks... now I understand why.
If you want a teacher don't take her. Your required to show up but when you do you learn nothing and if you ask questions she wont answer it and respond with a question. In her videos she makes mistakes all the time, and your graded on the 3 exams. Shes a VERY harsh grader. Made a mistake on my exam and refused to correct it until she was forced
Barely teaches and expects students to rely on lecture videos and YouTube. No consistent lecture criteria. Added a 10-mark exam question from outside the lectures that no one could answer. Has 3 exams worth 100,100,and200 points. Strict, unhelpful, and doesn't actually teach. Avoid this class at all costs& Run from her class for your mental health!
DO NOT TAKE MATH CLASS WITH HER EVER IN YOUR LIFE! I am taking Math 142 with her. It's hybrid class. But all the thing she is doing is just let students watching video by themselves. Homework is not related to exam. Never really teach in class. But you are required to attend the class everyday. AVIOD HER AT ALL COST. SAVE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH
I am not suggest anyone to take her class. She only gives you videos and youtube. Barely teach in class . A lot of homework that she never teach in class. Run from her as far as you can. If you are taking her class right now. I suggest you to swap class. But, if you are too late to swap or drop be ready for mentally illness. Don't take her class!
Please don't take any class with her if you dont wanna have a bad life in college. She gives you homework today and due midnight. In class she barely teach only gives you video to watch on canvas. Just believe me stay away from her class and your life gonna be ok. If you r taking any class with her now I am so sorry this is gonna be your worst.
She gave students a lot of homework and quiz. But, she never really teach in class. All the thing she is doing is gives you a lot of video to watch, and she did so many mistakes on her video. Then she will gives you quizz almost every week and she gives you like 10 mins for quiz. I dropped this class. I am not suggest you to take her.
Only take this class if you understand math by reading the textbook. She makes you read everything at home and expects for you to understand it on the spot. She barely does any practice problems about each unit. She also is very unhelpful at answering questions. Very inconsistent with grading and when HW is due. Also pop up quizzes???
For your own good, don't EVER TAKE THIS PROF. She's one of the worst math prof in HC. Tough grader, even if you do your best still cuts off prints, pop up quizzes almost every week, DOES NOT HELP U GET READY FOR THE TEST, while 75% of grades are the test! Literally all the homework you do is 5% of grade, so you can imagine if you want to take her!
She had no exam prep and out of all classes that should have an exam prep it should BE this class. Pre calc 2 requires the most memorization and has a ridiculous amount of sections. My advice for people who want to take a math class don't take it hybrid either.
If you want to pass this class and learn trig don't take her. Exam preps were non existent just a laundry list of things to study with no structure and no actual way to showing us how to be successful in the exams. Also, WHO MAKES EXAMS BE 75% WORTH OF THE GRADE!??? Theres better teachers. If give her a .5/10
