She is the worst professor i have ever had. Gave horrible notes, babbled for 50 minutes about nothing, and constantly put the class down by telling us how horrible our assignments were, told class we dont belong in college b/c we dont understand history.
she is a very difficult teacher but she will pass anyone who tries, does the work, and goes to class!i liked her and i would take here again
Overall a nice lady but she is really a bad teacher. Horrible notes, cant spell, babbles about nothing to do with ethics.
Mrs Tiege is a wonderful teacher. I enjoyed every class. If you do what she wants and she thinks you are into it, she will pass you. I plan to take her again.
Nice lady. Work may seem impossible to get a decent grade on, but graded work easier later on the semester. Not the best teacher. Sometimes goes on tangents. Hard material to grasp. Ask for extra credit.
Pretty attractive. Assigns a few papers and a HELLISH final paper. Everything is graded very strict and she has no problem telling the class how bad they are. Gave us all A's for attendance tho. Probably missed 8 classes.
She's nice, assigns bullshit work and a killer paper/lenient with due dates. A = effort + extra credit. Good philosophy teacher, tho I hear she's a **** when it comes to history. Tip - never call an ancient philosophers work "bullshit"
very engaging and interesting. all around nice lady, interesting lectures, her assinments can be a chalenge though. don't take her if you're looking for an easy A.
you must think outside the box in this class. i took 15 credits all in quick term and got an A in this class. if you are not openminded, do not take. it will confuse you. and i give her a hot!! she is a wise, wonderful woman who knows her subject matter.
I liked this teacher. The material was interesting and semi-easy. We didn't get any tests but we got papers. If you don't like papers, don't take this class. The papers weren't so bad tho. I liked it, we watched some movies too.
nice lady but very confusing. Her papers are apparently easy (I get A's and B's) but they are so confusing I have no idea what grade I am getting back. Stressful class but not too hard
I liked her ; she was a nice lady ; and the class wasn't as bad as I thought it would be ; it seems hard ; but you do the work ; theres group work too ; im gonna take her for ethics ; cuz i had baker and he was horrible so i have to take it over ;
i am overall a good student, i hated this class, very unclear, horrible notes... no tests, some quizes, huge paper..... makes you feel stupid
she gives and expects alot her papers and notes are alot and she's very condesending be prepared for alot of work it will be a long semester
She's a very nice teacher and kind of easy. If u take notes then you pass the class. Her quizes are so easy. Class is kind of cufucing but you will get it. I'll give her an A for excellence and the good teacher. She do CTA Assignements and a final paper about 8 to 10 pags. But she's good.
Really nice teacher, you can tell she loves her work, but very HARD class. The final paper is 10 pages. You must always keep up with the reading
i found her very confusing and unclear, she expects you to know everything about the philosophers. i must have went into her office like 4 times to ask for help and everytime she just made me more confused.
She thinks she's her students are all morons-very condescending. She is never consistent or clear with her expectations. She likes to make her students feel inferior to her intelligence. She takes too long to habd back work so you never know how you're doing.
overall i thought she was a great professor. her class was much harder than many of the classes at OCC but she is very helpful and at first the class seems a lot harder than it really is. here is a tip, forget everything you know about writing and write how you truly think for the papers and you will do fine.
Tietge is hard...but just suck up and you'll get an A...

OMG dont take this prof. she is horrible. Very unclear and confusing. Turns you away from learning.
HOrrible! The way she teaches sucks! She makes you feel stupid, gives few quizes, makes you write a huge paper that she doesn't even grade! She just favors... so get on her good side... worst class i ever took!!
don't take her
i'm a good student and i had to drop her class because she wasnt helpful at all i was accidently put in to an OSOL course instead of onsite and i hated the class, she was no help trying to figure out the program and expected you to figure out the program on your own or find your own way to make it work.the week and a 1/2 in her class made me the most stressed out ive ever been.
killyourself before takin this class
No Comments
stay away from this teacher. she is extremely confusing and never gets anything straight. she changed our syllabus every week and was never consistent. also she thinks you should know everything about every philosopher ever. dont take her if you dont have to
booo. do not take this class unless you want to devote your whole life to it, which you don't.
a lot of work, but as long as you keep up each week it isn't a problem. she's nice but the class is hard. keep up with the reading and you'll be fine.
She is a very nice teacher, but her class is so confusing. Her notes are not clear at all, so it was better just to reread the chapter in the textbook. Sometimes the discussions were boring as well. There is not a lot of homework, and hardly any tests, but if you are assigned to read a chapter, I highly suggest that you do it, or you may be lost
shes tries very hard, but the topics very rarely are understandable, whether because of her wording, or her explainations
She is a brilliant professor. With her PHD in Philosophy, Dr. Tietge can offer you a lot if you are prepared to work. Her class is not an "easy A", so those of you who want to breeze through and don't care about the knowledge you receive, I suggest you don't take this class. If you want a challange and want to expand ur mind, TAKE HER CLASS! :-)
I took her class during quick term, and easily got an A; however, she is very unprofessional. It took her forever to hand anything back, she would often spell things incorrectly, and she has horrible at explaining anything. Do not take her class if you like clear explanations and interesting material.
One of my least favorite teachers she SO confusing and makes you feel stupid.
I still don't get phil. I had to BS her course. This is partly because her lectures are not helpful at all, she can't explain anything, and doesn't cover all material that she plans to grade you on. She also will wait until you are failing to tell you, hey, you're failing like she did with my whole class. If you take the class, watch your back.
Intelligent and interesting. Not a class for the lazy or disinterested. I never took a philosophy class before so had ot idea what to expect. I like this class and the instructor quite a bit.
My second class with Dr. Tietge, and I was once again pleased. She really teaches you how to think critically in daily life, and how important it is. She is tough, the assignments are tough, and her class is time consuming, but its very rewarding, so don't take her if you want an easy "A". she is easily one of THE BEST teachers I have ever had.
She is a nice lady-but not cut out for teaching. She is very ambiguous, unclear, and often digresses from the original point of discussion. Her classwork is ALOT and the 12 & 6 page papers you have to write are not fun either. Do not take if you do not want to seriously try-and I mean seriously.
She is a tough professor, but if you are willing to put in the effort it will a rewarding class. She forces you to think outside the box. She has fun teaching and it shows. I knew nothing about philosophy going in but I can actually carry an intelligent conversation about it now. This class is not for the faint of heart at all.
Horrible. Showed up for every class and attempted to do my best on the work. Shouldn't be involved in education
I loved her and i learned the most from her class because you are forced to be interested bc of the amount of work you will recieve. She seems like a witch, and she seems like she doesnt care if you pass or not, but she does. It's a front. students dropped her class, I stuck it out and got an because I tried, even though I did get 2 D's on my paper
She is a difficult teacher. You really have to do the work and show up to get a good grade. She loves it if you participate so try to as much as possible. Make sure you keep up with the readings cuz if not you will fall so far behind. Be aware that this class will make your brain hurt so much! Only take it if you are really willing to do the work!
best professor i've ever had. this philosophical ethics class is great.
i took her online, i tried but i admit got lazy towards the end...my final average for the class was a 42/100 so i withdrew from the course...but then i realized THE CLASS AVERAGE WAS 48/100---does that not tell you something!!!
she's a tough one. You really have to work in her class to pass. i had her for ethics, and the quizzes were online like the midterms. unlimited time and # of takes for them which was a plus. however, if this wasn't the case, 99% of my class would've failed. oh, and the 4+pg papers a week got rough too. so best of luck if you take her!!!!
Her lectures in class are extremely hard to understand, but what else would you expect from a philosophy class? I learned a lot from her class, and it changed the way I think about things. I'd suggest her to anyone and everyone. Just don't put off the quizes and tests online or you'll end up spending hours taking them.
Dr. Tietge ignited my sense of wonder and I still pursue old classics that she mentioned in an off-handed way. She is the best professor I had at OCC, hands down. Her classes are not for the lazy, nor for the fly-by-night "I'm entitled to a good grade" students. If you work hard, you will reap the rewards. I now have a passion for Philosophy!
Any one who said this is a good teacher is crazy. Horrible unclear teacher. You mind as well have a statue sit up there and teach you
Prof teitge was very demanding in her online course.I probably wrote about 100 pages worth of typed work not includinr the quizez(not too hard). But a very involved course. In the end im gald i took it because now im definetly a better typer/writer and with writing that much i must say a learned a bit. Got a 97 average, but worked my ass off.
She is definately tough, but if you participate you can easily get an A. The class is a lot of work. There is also a lot of required reading. But if you are willing to do the work an A is not impossible. She is also very good at responding to emails with in 24 hours.

Took this over the 5 week summer session and it was insane. First, there are no rhyme or reason to the lectures, she seems to jump all over the place, and it makes it very hard to follow. Then, tons of reading, then you have to write a paper on each reading. It was the most writing I ever had to do. The essays were 5 pages, and due one a day. HARD.
Dr. Teitge is cool as a person, but terrible as a professer. I'm a straight A student and had the hardest time doing good. I never tried so hard to pass. I ended up getting a B, only because she had to curve our test (the average grade was like a 45) DON'T take her if you want an easy class. The class is over and I still have no idea what I learned
She isn't an easy teacher by any stretch. But she's an excellent teacher, for sure. Don't take anyone giving her bad ratings seriously. She knows what she's doing, and knows the material, but don't expect to get spoon fed anything. She expects you to think outside of the box, and think for yourself.
hands down the WORST teacher ive ever had. i emailed her a question i didnt understand and her response was basically a "too bad". her papers are ridiculous and her lectures are incomprehensible. she doesnt allow you to take notes and tears people apart if she doesnt like them. definatly someone who favors.i learned one thing. yin & yang
She made me HATE philosophy and makes students feel like complete idots because she thinks shes so much better then them. grades way too strict, her lectures are IMPOSSIBLE to begin to understand and you can't even understand the topic of her papers. Oh and "gives you and F in participation if she doesnt know your name". Horrible professor.
She's a nice person, but extremely unclear. I took this class to see what philosophy was all about, but came out extrememly confused. She had us write 2-4 reaction papers for every class and a 12 page final paper. Definitely not an easy class.
She is out of her mind. I never had so much anxiety over one class. You must bend over backwards for an A on anything. Even if you do whats required, its not good enough!
I have never had a teacher that made me feel stupid, until this lady. She makes you never want to ask her a question about her impossible papers, so good luck if you take her. I do well in school but this class was VERY difficult. She definitely knows her stuff, but that just makes her feel extra superior, which is not a good combination.
most people really seem to hate this teacher along with my ex girlfriend but i loved it i loved going to class people dont like her because she makes you think in a way that others professors never had you do. its alot of work but i enjoyed her alot
She is downright a horrible teacher, extremely unclear and very full of herself. I was looking forward to taking philosophy, but with her teaching in it makes a overall terrible class. DO NOT TAKE HER
She's crazy. She is really full of herself- first day she's like PLEASE! Call me DR. Tietge. And she goes in circles with her lectures. The topics are really hard to understand as it is. Quizes are easy if you are at the reviews. Class participation counts a lot. It's hard to understand what she wants in your essays.
Hmm. Perhaps when some of the slackers who post here get a Ph.D., they can complain about having to call someone who's earned the degree "Dr." Philosophy is hard; you want easy, take criminal justice.
took this class for humanities requirement. big mistake. NOT AN EASY A! philosophy is hard as it is and Tietge made it more confusing expecting people to be on her "Dr" level. i'm a straight A student and this was my hardest C+ ever. quizzes were easy if your there for review. papers not so much. attendence/participation helps and some xtra credit.
she went back on her word a little bit, she was a little hard to follow even though philosopy is very hard, she only drew one way of explainging it. i was dying to debate with her back and forth but she gave me attitude, its philosophy! she wasnt too clear with her writing assignments cause she wanted you guess what was asked. state premises.
I wouldn't reccomend this terrible professor to my worst enemy. She takes somewhat interesting theories and only presents them in her way she perceives it (if you can even understand that). She goes out of her way to make herself feel superior and her students like they are idiots. Oh, and don't even get me started on her papers!
I thought she was really interesting and really enjoyed what she was teaching. Overall there was allot of work, but as long as you where willing to put time and effort you can get a decent grade.
I took an online 5wk summer class. Very demanding on time, the schedule wasnt clear at first but she made an effort to make it clear. Be ready to read a lot, more her handouts than the book; participate a lot c consistent arguments and u should be fine.
I took Tietge for Intro to Philosophy, Critical Thinking, and World Religions. She is one of the smartest women you will meet in your life. If you put the smallest amount of effort into the class you will succeed. If something is confusing, she will explain it. Great professor!
Dr. Tietge could be considered a good professor if you are the type of student who just takes what the teacher tells you regardless of your own questions. If you are the type who thinks about things with curiosity and tend to have a lot of questions then she sucks. either way, if you take her class, know not to ask questions and do well w/ writing.
Had Dr.Tietge for PHIL-191, Intro to Philosophy. She is incredibly intelligent, gives a lot of work, but the class is worth it.
She is great, kind of hard to understand if you're an idiot like most of the people at OCC.. But if you are at least capable of independent thought, then she's amazing! I took her more than once! Got A's both times.
Worst teacher I've ever had. She's demanding and full of herself, as most doctors are. If you have no life, no job, and no other classes but a Tietge class you might skate away with a decent grade, if not... STAY AWAY!
Terrible! Her lectures go in circles and are impossible to understand. Don't bother asking questions and god forbid you tell her your opinion/view on a theory! I've never had such a rude and unclear professor - oh sorry, Doctor. Talks about how she wears her daughters clothes a lot (ew) and reeks of cigarettes.
She is a very incompetent teacher. She talks herself in circles and does not care for students' opinions. She is very arrogant and heavily plays favorites.
Idk why people give such negative comments about her, i personally enjoy her philosophy class, tests are hard and other than that she does not give a lot of work. But the lectures keep me very interested, and yes she is intelligent, smarter than most professors and has a good ammount of enthusiasm.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Took her for Contemporary Ethic Issues and we barely touched on one issue the entire semester. She's very full of herself, believes its her way or no way. If you asks questions she treats you like you're stupid and should have known the answer to what you were asking. Her teaching methods are horrible.
Just awful. The amount of work required is unbelievable. She doesn't really teach, talks in circles, and really gives no leeway. DO NOT take for a short term class she does not lower requirements at all.
She is nice if you treat her with respect, and she gives a lot of work
An amazing professor who actually makes you think about things instead of simply asking you to regurgitate the textbook. She gives you everything you need to know, but you just have to have the brain power to find it. A real easy class, and if you do all homework and some extra credit, you can get at least a B no problem. Also, talk in class. A lot
Online class taken - subject interesting, workload ok, not difficult if you read and follow the syllabus, only complaint was lack of instructor involvement. Assignments not graded for weeks at a time, no feedback on assignments or grades given, no involvement in discussions, no clarification or expansion on material presented. You're on your own.
She's super nice, fun and interesting but her Ethics class was so hard that I gave up and stopped going. So many papers to keep up with and lots of work. It Ethics is you thing take her, but if you don't know anything about it like me, or are on the fence about taking this class, take something else like sociology. Tough!
Her class is pretty difficult if you don't have any background in philosophy, but you do learn a lot. She says she does not let you know her personal beliefs but she shows them which can sometimes be distracting. All in all she is a good teacher if you are willing to study and work a lot. Don't take her for the A, take her to learn.
Her class is very difficult. It's hard to follow her in class because she goes to different topics. Her papers are torture. "Follow the directions you get a C," her words exactly, no joke. And you need to participate everyday, but she's strict with the grading, so good luck. It will be hard to get an A in this class.
she makes you feel insignificant and dumb at all times..participation is worth about 20% of your grade and she expects you to participate at least 4 times each class in order to get above a C..She talks in circles and writes non-sense on the board. Her papers are worth most of your grade & is a hard grader! Only managed an A by her papers!HORRIBLE
Extremely unclear. Says "You understand where I'm going with this?" a lot... uhm no lady we don't. Talks in riddles & gets extremely off topic. I don't think I learned a thing about Philosophy to be honest. Her papers are so difficult & she gives group work that makes no sense. She changes due dates too much & is too confusing. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Worst "instructor". She gives no input and responds to you as if you are stupid. I took an online class and she didn't offer any clarification until more than half the semester was over. The "class" is full of posts from students wondering if we understand the readings. She does NOT teach or intruct anything!
Hardest professor I've taken at OCC. Lectures were interesting, but the papers were unclear, and she didn't do a great job of explaining the requirements until after the first paper (of 3, mind you). Pretty frustrating class.
Demanding but interesting. I am a non-graditional student and have expressed my concerns about being able to keep up. If you do your homework and interact in class you will get a passing grade.
Awesome teacher. Does get off subject on occasion but topics are still interesting. Not easy by any means- extremely challenging, especially for an intro class which is a required course. However, I was hooked, both on philosophy and her style. I am going to take ethics this semester if her class is open.
