She is a great teacher. She explains everything very clearly. No tests. Only quizes on stories you read. She is very sweet and willing to help students. She gives a lot of credit for just coming to class and participating. Take her for ENC1101!!
She likes to give comments too much on assignments. But she is pretty helpful. Some of the assignments werent clear to me. I'd take her again if I had to.
Great Teacher! Very helpful and has fun and easy activities. Gordon rule class, but the easiest and funnest for an oral presentation. Easy tests. Computer class. Final you barely have to study for, she will let you know everything that is on it. I would take her again if I could. Recommended!!!
I had Kathy for Zoo Lab and I miss her a lot. She knows everything about everything. If I know half of what she knew I would write a couple of books. Kathy cares deeply about her job and takes it very seriously. I wish I could have her for every subject.
Easy class. She gives a lot of quizzes at the beginning of the semester, but after the beginning the class is fun. She gives a couple group projects that are for an easy A. no tests. She lets you use notes on the final.
This professor has a huge collaborative final that takes a lot of work. dont expect a nice professor...she doesnt only grade on your work but also on whether she likes you or not. terrible professor...
Nice lady, not too hard, clear, helpful if you need help. She has a community service assignment that's a little rough near the end of the course, but besides that a good teacher to choose for this course.

Great teacher. If you do what is asked of you in her class you can do well and if you didn't do well it is your own fault.
Professor Russel is a very nice lady and she is always willing to help. plus her class is easy all you have to do is your best. also there is a community service and group project that she gives that is very easy her point system is crazy but over all if you try your best you a sure to pass this class so take it with her even if its online have fun
This class isn't too tough, but she makes everything due on Sundays which blows. One time I had to send her my assignment via e-mail because WebCT wasn't working and she said she wouldn't accept it because I didn't turn it in through WebCT. Needless to say, she is very strict so have everything ready on time.
I thought this professor was going to be a good one, but she is HORRIBLE! Does not answer anyone's questions, grades very unfairly (almost NO ONE gets full credit on an assignment). Makes you bring a "documented excuse" EVERYTIME you're sick or she takes off MAJOR points!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS WOMAN!!!!
so i thought this class would be a cinch! WRONG! this lady did everything in her power to make this regulary easy class DIFFICULT for everyone! NEVER gives full credit. never answers your questions. docks off lots of points if you're ever absent & don't bring an excuse. just a really poor caliber of a professor. DON'T TAKE HER! SHE IS AWFUL!
Great professor. She gives clear instructions and grades fairly. Not an easy A, but makes assignments relevant to the real world. Highly recommended!
I thought Prof. Russell had an excellent course. It is time constrained because she teaches a 7 week course. I had no problems understanding her assignments. She was extremely helpful and always told exactly what she wanted. She answers your emails at lightening speed. I definitely recommend her.
Although I felt this class would be fairly easy as an all A student, Mrs.Russell seems to want to make her assignments unclear, time constricted, and long. Avoid this class...seriously..
Mr.Russell could not have made her course more difficult to receive fair grading. She never gives full credit and criticizes every assignment you do even if ou made an A. Avoid at all costs....I could not have been more disappointed with a teacher.
Nice person. Very clear guidelines for online course. Very long drawn out instructions, but no question about exactly what she wants for assignments. A lot of busy work. Good course, though. Very basic, helpful course for writing well in the work arena. Responds to questions very fast and takes time to give clear and helpful responses.
Great professor. Great feedback and clear what she expects. Useful for the real world. Take her!
i really enjoyed the class i do not really like english at all but she made it really interesting. I made a C because i had family issues and missed quite a few assignments. the class is fair as long as you turn in your work. the grade will be high. turn in your work be in class and you'll be great.
listen to me this lady is a crazy ****!omg her assignments are like what are you trying to say and she is dtrict when it comes to having them on time.Needless to say no matter what the excuse is it doesnt matter.AVOID!!!
This lady is satan incarnate. OMG if I had a time machine, I would avoid the #$$% out of this class. She is completely unfair with her grading. She obviously had it out for me as soon as her class started. Worst teacher I have ever had. Final is impossibly difficult, and she will criticize you on everything you do. AVOID AVOID AVOID!?!?!?
A great professor; she is very helpful and I learned a lot. I don't know what the other people's problem is, I would recommend her.
AWESOME PROFESSOR. I learned alot that will help me in the real world. Definitely take her!
Great teacher. She is willing to help you with everything, just go to her office!!! Don't be shy, ask questions about everything. She will make you a better writer. Period. And for those of you complaining...yeah she may be somewhat strict but do your $$$$ on time and you won't have to worry about it. Great professor hands down!!!
I took her online and it was so so I got a B and did my assignments at the last min. In my opinion she is a GREAT online teacher and answers questions and concerns very promptly!
I took her online and the class is very easy...just do what she said and don't try to give any late work and you will do great. Remember FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS....
Great teacher! No nonsense, to the point & patient. Syllabus is precise. If you follow the instructions, turn in the work on time, there's no way you can't get a good grade. She encourages questions & responds to emails quickly. The class & how she teaches is beneficial to any career. Took the class online. Again, do the work, on time,no problems.
Online. EASY. Assignments are simple, she grades so easily. I made an A on every assignment and I really dont know how, because on a few, I hardly tried. She is really nice and helps you when you need it. Recommend this class for sure.
Took technical writing with her. Excelent teacher! she is very organize, demanding, fair, precise, and helpful. She is difinately not easy but provides examples and explanations if needed. responds to emails very quickly. There are a lot of needy-greedy instructions for each assignment. pay attention to them, and you'll be fine.
I took this class online and it was alright. I made an A, but I worked very hard for it. Her directions to assignments were like 4 pages long & they were VERRYYYYYY PICKY!! She is an easy grader because some assignments I deserved lower than what I got. I would recommend her as an online teacher--just be prepared to work.
Prof. Russell answers questions/emails very promptly but be prepared to read very picky and long instructions. i didnt really take her assignments seriously and did all of them on the last day and got a B in the class. i would recommend her only if you must take the course online. i hear the enc 2210 on campus is much easier.
She is very thorough in her instructions and she expects a lot but is also willing to assist you in producing a good paper. Had a great time in this class. Thanks Ms. Russell.
I took technical writing with her and because I told her I was a UF student, she went VERY HARD on me. She is this type of professor who thinks UF students take classes at SFC to get easy A's. NO YOU ARE WRONG! the only reason why I took this class at SFC was because all the classes were full at UF. She grades HARDER ON UF STUDENTS!!!
I took technical writing online with her and she grades very hard. She is not specific on what I did wrong on my papers. Also, don?t waste your time doing the extra credit unless you want to do the assignment again.
I took ENC2210 online on a mini-semester. I do not recommend this teacher for this course. She grades tough. You will get no direction to correct your mistakes, only page numbers from the book. If by necessity you must take this course with her keep in mind: root canals and wisdom teeth extraction are also necessary, but painful.
Prof. Russell was a great teacher! Attendance was mandatory but I had the class once a week. She is understanding and helpful!
I took her Tech Writing class online during short semester. Please don't try that. It's too intense and her grading is petty and borders on needlessly anal. Example: she gave me a "B" on a paper b/c my MLA citations weren't from local sources. I pulled an A- in the end. But I don't recommend her. I don't think I learned anything valuable.
This is a great online Tech Comm course; I like when a prof tells me what to expect. Had the same summer course & she required finding local sources so of course she will grade off for not doing that. She is helpful, answers emails at rapid speed, allows late submissions, & gives extra credit; what more could anyone want?
LOVELOVELOVE this teacher. I am awful at English at she made it easy to learn. Very clear on what she wants and extremely friendly. There are 2 major projects which are easy at 2 papers. If you do your work and put some effort, she's perfect for students who aren't the best at English. (partially hybrid)
She's probably one of the best English teachers. Super nice. Im glad that my 2 hour and 45 min class is with her, because otherwise Id be miserable. She gives extra credit like its going out of style. You have 4 essays, 2 in class 2 outside, and Grammar. No tests other than the final,(which you can get exempt from if you get an A in the class.)
Professor Russell is the most professional instructor I have ever had. Russell stayed on top of all of her grading and gave feedback promptly. Ms. Russell is firm, fair, and consistent instructor. The class isn't easy but you will be rewarded for the work you do.
Since this is a writing class its not that easy, but she is EXTREMELY helpful. Grades 48 assignments and posts the grade in a timely manner. Emails u asap and any question u ask wont be considered a dumb question. Do the assignments as instructed and u will do great.
Not the easiest online grade, she actually reads what you write so that's different compared to other teachers but she gives feed back and is fair. She gives extra credit and is very clear on what to do so there is no excuse for not getting a good grade.
She is wonderful, hands down the best teacher I've taken. She emails and grades in a timely manner. She grades kind of tough but it is a communications class. She may come off as being a stickler when it comes to her comments on your assignments but its tough love...HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!!
Overall Professor Russell is a great teacher! I took her class online for Fall B and got an A. Her assignment instructions are very long and detailed but that's what makes you become a better writer especially in this communications class. Answers emails quickly and grades assignments within two or three days as well. Overall awesome professor!
Professor Russell is a wonderful teacher. Took this class online for Fall B and there was a lot of writing but it was manageable! She gives extra credit for every discussion and is very fair when grading. Her instructions are long and detailed but hey its a college level class. Would reccomend taking her class online. AWESOME PROFESSOR! :)
Best english professor I ever had!! She always comments on your work to let you know how to improve and course work and instructions are very direct! She is a must take!! Just make sure you do all assignments and you'll be great!
Prof. Russell is fantastic. I took her for ENC 1102 and then for Technical Communication. She has been very helpful and has always made time for me when I came to see her in her office. The assignments she gives are pretty straight forward. Show her you're interested and put effort into ur assignments and her classes will be a breeze.
Prof. Russell is extremely structured. We had Modules set up and you did one every 2 weeks with a paper due at the end of the 2 weeks. She is fair in grading and lets you know what she is grading on before you start. I would recommend anyone to take her class!
Excellent instructor. Clear instructions for all assignments, very helpful and quick to return emails. For the class I took, she supplied all needed learning material and resources.
This professor is great! She is constantly available doesn't give a lot of work but gives assignments that weigh heavily but give you plenty of time to do them. I never rate professors and I had to post a positive comment about her. If you want to pass pro. writing I highly recommend her.
Very harsh teacher , can't miss any classes or points will deduct . Very rare for anyone to make a B on any essay she will always give a 78 or 76 even if it's an excellent paper . And she will have you go to the lab and try to rewrite it and you'll end up with useless comments and another 76 plus online grammar quizzes you never study for .
Very nice instructor. I seem to be having a hard time on the assignments thought. She is an extremely tough grader. Took online Summer B and I'm regretting it. Wish I could have taken her in a classroom setting.
This class is the hardest thing I've ever done. Her lectures are so boring I had to draw to stay awake. Her essays, she gives she must think that you're a journalist. Her quizzes online that she gives you make sure you take notes. I hope you're not a gator fan because every chance she gets she talking about the Seminoles . Have fun!
Not very clear on exactly what she wants and it is impossible to get an A on any of her assignments because she is the greatest writer of all time and will not allow herself to give out decent grades. I hate the way this professor grades.
I didn't like this class. She is not clear in her assignments. You will never know what she wants. You will have to go to the lab to rewrite your essays and you will have a bad grade again. Don't take this class!
I had a great experience in this class. She really cares about students and helped me improve alot. It is English, so you will write a ton, but she was helpful and you can improve ur grade with extra credit and rewrites.
I didn't like this class. She is not clear in her explanations nor assignments. She is unpredictable teacher. She criticized their students all time. You will have to go to the lab to rewrite your essays, and you will have a bad grade again and again. Not a good teacher. Sorry if you want to take this class with her.
She's not a good teacher.
Do not take her! If you have to take this class choose someone else. The lady is way too meticulous with her grading, assignments are confusing, also the final report is pointless. She takes off way too much points for the little things during assignments and she does not teach. If you need the class, save yourself and do not take her.
She is a very harsh grader... I struggled to get an A and I REALLY had to go out of my way to get it. She would take off tiny points off of quizzes because I would write a little too long. If you are not dedicating yourself to this class than you will probably not get the A.
Do not recommend what so ever. If she does not like you for whatever reason you will not pass. Especially if she does not like your writing.
Professor Russell is the bomb. Although she does grade a bit harsh because she is an amazing writer, her feedback is how I passed with an A. Literally take her feedback to heart, revise your next assignment with her suggestions and you will do well. She replies to e-mails very fast with a sense of support, not dry or rude.
A great class and professor. She is very nice and helpful. We did a lot of work in class because it was in a computer lab so she did a little bit of lecturing then let us get to work, but she came around and helped out while we were writing. She is understanding and let us turn assignments in late.
She is a tough grader BUT is willing to meet you in her office if you need the extra help. She is more then willing to help through online email or during office hours, you just have to be willing to ask and put effort into your papers.
Class is mandatory, but class is super easy and you learn at a slow rate. Lectures are long and boring, but overall an easy A with an easy professor.
She was pretty cool. Said the first day of class she'd never correct your grammar out loud (but obviously on paper). She also said no essays; liar, liar, pants on fire! We had 3 in class papers to write and the final exam is essays. Overall easy class, except for her tough grading on the papers. The almost daily quizzes were also a little tough.
I enjoyed Professor Russell's class and it was pretty easy for the most part. She does have a lot of quizzes and she is very specific on short answers on tests or papers. She has great feedback on how to improve. Attendance is very important and will affect your grade if you don't go.
Great teacher, she really connects with kids and wants you to do well. Correct MLA is important, easy A, you don't always need your books for class its more of a reference but you definitely need to access code, those are super easy and always do the extra credit, its a point based class so it can't hurt. Love her! 10/10 would recommend.
Awesome professor. Very understanding and compassionate towards her students. She is a great teacher, as well. I enjoyed learning in her class.
Honestly, a lot of people don't like this teacher simply because she actually CARES. She wants you to do well and isn't going to give you a good grade FOR NOT TRYING. If you do all the homework, attend class, you will do fine even if she is tough on the essays. I still ended with an A mainly getting B-'s and C's on the essays.
Take this class if you hate yourself
3 essays, 1 final research project, and launch pad assignments once a week for the first maybe 6-7 weeks. You have a daily journal thats the participation grade at the end of the semester. Grades essays really tough, must have near perfect MLA. I got a mid B on all 3 essays and still had an A in the class. Read her feedback and go to office hours
Prof. Russell is very good at her job. She is constantly offering help and gives good feedback. Passing her class is easy, and getting an A is very easy too. All you have to do is show up (because attendance is graded), do the work and participate.
I suggest not taking prof Russell for enc 1101 or enc 1102. Her grading is inconsistent. She will review your outline and tell you that its good and then when you turn the paper in or go over the draft she will say its bad. Her class is a waste of time and nobody participates. Don't do the readings she will either read it in class or not use it
For ENC1101 she was pretty okay . Anyone can maintain an A if the essays are good .
A really tough and inconsistent grader, and very nitpicky when it comes to essays. Shes a really nice and interesting woman, but sometimes expects too much from her students and wants you to write exactly as she would. Grading is really the only issue, but its no joke.
Russell makes 1102 unnecessarily hard. To get an A, you must have a 92, rather than a 90 and her grading criteria is extremely tough. She expects you to structure your essays exactly as she would or else she WILL knock off points. Although it is easy to pass her class, getting an A or a high B is something you will have to work for.
Kathie Russell is the best professor I have had in college, she is kind and makes the work fun and exciting, she works with her students and gives everyone a fair chance to pass. She really looks out for her students best interest and is overall very funny and great. I have taken two courses from her and highly recommend you take any of her classes
Professor Russell is a good instructor and aims to educate her students well. Their are 3 major essays that appear back-to-back, which is kind of overwhelming. Her lectures are extensive and require note taking. She is a tough grader, so make sure you see her during her office hours for feedback on essays.
One word: Great
Took her and enjoyed my time. She doesn't take attendence but it will bite you in the butt at the end of the semester if you skip. The class was nice and if you at least put in some effort then you'll be good.
Very chill teacher. Get ready to act!
This class was straight forward. Weekly grammar quizzes for about a month; however, very simple and automatic 100 as long as you do them. Only 3 essays but they are back-to-back which is a little stressful. Classes are filled with easy and helpful note taking. AMAZING teacher-very helpful to ATTEND OFFICE HOURS (ensures you will do well on essays).
This professor was genuinely amazing. Any and all issues you may have with the class you can go to her and she'll do whatever she can to help. Lots of reading but the readings are easy. Quizzes pertaining to readings are pretty direct from the passages.
This is an AMAZING professor, she actually made me like English and I usually hate english/literature. Her quizzes are extremely easy as long as you read and study. Make sure you attend the lectures because they help you on the quizzes and assignments. A solid and easy choice for this course!:)
One of my favorite professors! Offers a ton of extra credit so that it's possible to skip the final exam and get an A. There's 3 main projects worth 60% of your grade but they are (oddly) enjoyable and easy. The textbook (an anthology series) and the novel are very interesting as well. Participation is a must! Cannot recommend this course enough!
Kathie Russel is amazing! Her literature appreciation class is a super easy A. Just post discussion posts and pay attention in class and it's a guaranteed A. Trust me I didn't work hard.
She's very passionate about English and sympathetic towards her students. She understands what goes on in your personal life and will work with you to help you succeed. She also gives lots of chances for extra credit and is very easy to talk to in and out of the classroom! Highly recommend
Terrible professor. She was very Very unnecessarily snarky and stated herself that she gave me a C on my final for going 200 words over the count, even though it was a good paper. I do not recommend her at all unless you want to work your behind off with little to no payout in the end.
I was late to class by twenty minutes one day because I am literally chronically ill and I was at the doctors and she still gave me a zero for the day despite me providing a doctors note. Her excuse was she allowed three dropped zeros in order to be fair she doesn't accept anything for missed classes. SMH
I loved Prof. Russell. I saw a negative review from a chronically ill student, and I can say as a chronically ill student myself, it can be hard to get around the attendance policy, but as long as you communicate and actively participate, it shouldn't be much of an issue. I loved this class, and everything we read. Definitely recommend.
Prof. Russell was the most memorable professor I've ever had. The textbooks are mandatory, but it's well worth it. Although she can be snarky, she sets you up for success and is willing to help (if you're willing to try). I had her for LIT and ENC, I received high grades for both classes. Attendance is taken seriously.
I love professor Russell. She has taken so much time to sit down and help me on my essays. She's patient and extremely helpful!
She makes you keep a journal and turn it in at the end of the semester. I honestly didn't like her class when I was taking it, but looking back she did actually care about her students. She leaves harsh feedback but I think she means well. Textbook is mandatory, if you don't have it you won't pass.
I had Professor Russell for ENC1101 in Fall 2022. I was super nervous about taking an English class as I have a hard time writing essays, but Professor Russell made it easier. She went over how to structure the essay, which is super helpful. I attended her office hours when I struggled with the essays. She gave good feedback!
She was a good teacher but very confusing. You would ask a question then she answer it but five minutes later completely contradict what she said so you never knew what to do. she also has many lecture with no true use. the essays were easy but she was not.
Professor Russel is an excellent teacher. Be prepared for minimal work and nothing to do outside of class. Lots of easy group assignments that you get easy A's for, but the essays we have (3 of them) are graded a little harshly (I think C is the lowest she'll give you), but you can use notes and they aren't hard. Overall, extremely chill class.
Not much homework other than the 3 essays that are heavily weighted on your grade. A lot of group projects given that are easy, but they don't really affect your grade. She constantly contradicts herself even when answering questions. Grades on a C level, so at first it's very hard to understand how she grades your papers but then it gets easier.
Dr. Russell is an awesome professor. She is kind and very caring. Her love of literature shows in her teaching. She is tough on grading essays.
Russell has 3 essays that are weighted incredibly heavy in comparison to the remainder of the work. Even if you get a 100% on every other assignment, you will fail if you do bad on the essays. There is a lot of group work and reading aloud. The final is not that challenging. Make sure to ask clarifying questions to get the best grade possible
I took Professor Russell for ENC and LIT. She may seem unapproachable on the outside, but she is actually caring toward students. As long as you try your best, she will work with you. She was always willing to work with me and give feedback on my essays during office hours. Reach out to her if you have concern, she will make an effort to help you.
Professor Russell is awesome! Definitely talk to her in office hours because she will provide helpful feedback to improve your essays. I learned a lot from her class!
Super chill class. Paying attention helps but it's pretty easy to get a good grade without it. I was able to completely skip the final essay and still pass.
Grade is HEAVILY dependent on the 3 essays. Lectures were alright but if you want to get good grades on the essays I STRONGLY advise you to have her review your essay drafts. Just go visit her during office hours. She gives good feedback and tells you how to improve it and after all she is the one grading them.
Professor Russell's LIT1000 class is a great choice. Though the essays are heavily weighted, the course is relatively manageable. Engaging with the readings and using resources like unstuck ai can help you succeed.
Her class was super easy theres zero excuse why you should fail her class. She assigns papers on how you reflect on certain poems and books and there are analyzations and group projects. Loved taking her class and would recommend.
If you enjoy reading at all, do not take this class. If you want to be challenged AT ALL, do not take this class. Prof. Russell regularly relays lesson plans incorrectly & very reading is essentially at the middle school level. Additionally, the information for the in-class essays are spoon fed to you, requiring no critical thinking what-so ever.
If anyone is looking to take her for ENC1102- DON'T!! While her classes are lecture heavy, she is unclear of her own regulations and will tell you one thing one day, and the next day another thing. She also will not allow someone to talk or ask questions without interrupting at least once.
Russell is one of the teachers of all time. She has 3 essays which make up the majority of your grade but her grading system is awful as she starts at a 70 and only adds if you go "above and beyond" outside of that her lectures are okay and she was willing to help during her office hours.
Shes a decent english professor, she had really interesting essay prompts and a cute office, however she does grade fairly harsh with essays being 70% of ur grade. There are better choices for an easier professor but shes still pretty good. Also for my introverts, there's a 5min presentation
She's a very kind person, but as a dual enrolled senior, I feel like I got more from 10th or 11th grade AP English. If you need a literature class for credit and don't mind the reteaching of information you learned years ago- this is for you! Expect very harsh grading on the three timed essays (easy) you do for every section of the course.
