Gives relevant examples as "group work" in class that helps the overall grade if you show up regularly. Works a little fast when doing examples in class, but is always willing to clarify if anyone has questions.
I have heard bad things about other math 210 teachers but Brewer was outstanding. It was just like high school math. She teaches everything just like it is on the test.
She is very clear and only teaches what is on the tests. Its just like being in high school. No webwork!
great quality professor
Very clear, went over any homework questions you have. Tests are a little hard, but otherwise good teacher to have for calc.
I love this teacher. she's so nice and easy to understand. I was nervous about calc but she made it very clear. she's really smart and helpful. i'd recommend her to everyone taking a math class
Great teacher. Very helpful. Easy grading and gives a lot of extra credit

Shes cool, and makes learning calc fun
Ms. Brewer is an awesome professor and teaches calculus very well. As long as you show up, do the hmwk, learn and study for the exams you'll love your grade. Get her!
Awesome teacher, really really helpfull, stops in the middle of class to explain anything your having trouble with, always willing to help. As long as you do the homework, youll do great, get her, now!
She is by far the best teacher I have had at ASU out of my 3 1/2 years of being there. The tests are completely sraight forward from the review sheets. She gives out extra credit. She knows what she's talking about and has a huge heart. I would reccomend her to anyone.
By far the best professor I have ever had. Tests are are based on the examples in class. Very helpful teacher, truly wants you to do excellent in her class. If your lucky to find her class empty, you should take it.
Actual professor who cares about her students. Mrs. Brewer takes the extra step to help her students succeed. Highly recomended. Great teacher.
The best math teacher, and quite possibly one of the best instructors I've ever had. You can tell she genuinely cares about her students, wants to be teaching, and knows exactly what she's talking about. She went out of her way to accomodate us if we needed help, and her exams were very fair. If at all possible, take a class with her.
GREAT teacher... very helpful and nice! Gives lots of examples which makes the homework THAT much easier... If you go to class, and do the homework you will be fine- best math teacher i ever had... (oh kinda gives alot of homework>> but in class group work helps out if you miss webwork)
Best teacher. Do the homework, take notes in class, study for tests, get an A. This class is like high school, do your part and you'll get the grade you deserve. Don't be afraid to ask questions she's very helpful.
Best math teacher I have ever had. If a concept is not understood ask questions in class. If it is still not understood she will help you in office hours until you get it. Very helpful and the test are just how the review is. Such a good techer I have had her for calc1, calc2, and calc3. Very easy if you do the homework!
You will gain absolutely zero conceptual knowledge in Brewer's class. ONLY take her class if this will be the LAST math class you ever take. Brewer uses the "monkey see, monkey do" approach. She says, "this is how you will work problem #x in your homework", then she works the problem. That's the sum total of her class. No actual learning required.
Best teacher ever. Just put in the same amount of work she does for the class and you will be good to go. She's very easy to understand and SPEAKS ENGLISH. Always open to suggestions and questions. Too bad she's not teaching Calc 3. Major bummer. If you have had bad calc teachers, repair yourself with Brewer, she rocks.
Wow. Probably the best math teacher at ASU. Plus, she is really hot. Straightforward exams, and no surprises, except for the extra credit that she gave. Very hot, very good teacher, can't beat that.
Best math teacher i have ever had. She is very helpful and answers all questions clearly. I learned more in calc 1 and 2 then in any of my classes freshmen year. Plus she posts old exams, and if you do those you are almost guerenteed a good grade on all of the test. A+++
Very nice lady who cares about her students. She also speaks English without any perceptible accent. Downside: puts too much emphasis on rote learning and not enough emphasis on applying the concepts overall. Upside: if you do the homework, you'll definitely get a good grade!
The first day I was very scared of her. I thought she was going to be like Hitler. She was kind of stuck up too. By the end of the semester, she made me want to dive head first off the University Drive Bridge. Inarguably, Brewer is the worst math teacher ever. If you take her good luck you'll need it!!! SHE'S BETTER OFF NOT TEACHING.
Very, very helpful and caring teacher. Always quick to help, and never quick to judge. Never gives a problem that she hasn't at least breifly gone over. My attendance was somewhat sporadic throughout the semester, she was still caring enough to help me even though my lack of knowledge mostly stemmed from my absences. Would recommend to anyone. A++!
She is an excellent teacher, she is easy with her grading and easy with her homeworks. In the future i would like to take advanced classes with her.
She's the best. She's very helpful. I love all classes that she teaches. I always have very good grades in her class. She's very generous giving out extra credits. I would recommend her to anyone. Please take her if you want to learn something, to have good grade and to be respected.
very nice
Brewer is simply awesome...an outstanding teacher. Go to class, do the homework and go to the review session...you will be more than fine....i wish i could take all my classes at ASU with her...love brewer....she rocks
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Very generous with grades, explains information VERY well and is always willing to help people out when they are having trouble. It doesn't matter what you have to do to get in her class, just make sure you do.
Best teacher at ASU, PERIOD. Don't take Zhu for CalcIII, take this teacher. By far the best.
Great teacher. Gives tough hw questions but easy test questions. If you give the HW some time and make sure you can work the problems, the tests will be cake.

She was a fantastic professor! I had her for engineers Cacl I and II. She is the best math teacher I've ever had!
Smart! She is a nice understanding teacher. She gives out homework for each section & it counts toward your grade. do the homework and attend class for group work wich also helps grade and you'll be fine.she teaches at a good pace and test are fairly easy.if you want a good grade do your homework and study guides and office hours. FABULOUS PROFESSOR!
Fantastic teacher.

Very helpful when it came to quetions and concerns.
Had her for calc 3 and calc. a great teacher who explains things really well. hw's are hard but she answers all questions often doing the entire problem. tests are easier then hw and hw isn't that bad. Show up for class for easy pts and group work. often gives easy extra credit. getting a b is cake A with a little effort
Helps a lot with homework and tests, making the subject tolerable. She gets agitated easily when asking questions so beware. Other than that, fair and knows her math.
She is a very nice teacher! She is very helpful if you go in for help, and her honors contracts are very reasonable. Her tests are easy as well and she lets you know what is going to be on them for the most part.
Amazing teacher she actually cares. Helps students all the time. She has great communication with students always emailing them keeping them updated. One of the best teachers at ASU.
Best teacher I've ever had! She cares about her students and offers every opportunity to help them do well. Show up and do your work every day and there is no reason you can't do well.
First of all, don't bother buying the book; she doesn't use it and it's not necessary. Extremely helpful, and lots of examples. Excellent teacher. Always comes to class with a great attitude.
First of all, don't bother buy the book; she doesn't even use it. Very helpful in making everyone understand the material, and uses lots of examples. Comes to class cheerful and with a great attitude everyday. Best teacher ever.
Ms Brewer is really nice and she is prolly the best math 210 teacher anyone could have. She is from America so you can actually understand her which is important with math teachers at ASU. Either way take her and, go to class, and listen. It will be boring but it's math so it is boring with any teacher.
I transferred to Mrs. Brewer's class from Dr. Firozzaman, because I couldn't understand him. Prof Brewer is a great teacher, she is great at explaining concepts and procedures. She also puts a lot of time in during office hours in order to make sure her students know the material. As a student who can't stand math, I highly recommend Prof. Brewer.
Prof. Brewer is an excellent professor. She is clear and she cares about the students. She doesn't use the book at all, but she does go over many examples in class and answeres any and all questions. She is a bit fast paced, but if you pay attention it isn't hard to keep up. One of the best teachers I've had!!
Great teacher!! Helps you alot! Go to class, it helps you!
Greatest calc. professor EVER! She is very clear and will help you understand the material no matter how much you ask. Test are simple, just do a quick review before taking. And of course do ALL HW it will help you understand the material so you can do well on the tests.
She was very clear when explaining concepts and graded very fairly. Exam questions were similar to homework problems, no tricks, fun class.
Pay attention and she's great
Very easy class if you go. You'll learn what you need to for the tests.
Really easy class. Halfway through semester I haven't missed a single question. Typical class: show up, open laptop, do webwork questions as she answers them for us, do other homework, do groupwork, leave. I don't spend time out of class at all and I still get everything. She's a really good teacher and is always excited to be in class teaching.
Brewer is the worst. she divotes a lot of time for office hours but she is terrible at explaining how to do things and why it works. She send up to 6 emails an evening, complaining about how students are disruptive in class Personally her complaints were more disruptive then the students.she does problems w/o explaining in the "interest of time"
I'm not a math person at all, but Ms. Brewer made this class really easy. She explains the material clearly and is always there to help during her office hours. Sometimes makes mistakes during the lecture, but in the end teaches you what you need to know. Take her if you can.
Easiest class of my life. If you show up, pay attention, and do the homework, you should get high A's on the tests and in the class. She's extremely clear and answers any questions you have about the homework. Great math teacher!!
Mrs. Brewer is the best math teacher you can get basically. I almost worship the ground she walks upon.
I <3 Ms. Brewer. She is not only the best math teacher, but the best college teacher period. If you cant do well in her class it wont be her fault. Listen good on review days because she basically gives you the test questions.
Who would have thought I could get an A in calc 3? Not me! She is always willing to help in office hours on homework or even questions about tests. She is by far the best math teacher I've ever had! Just make sure to go to class to get the review questions and to do the group work (it's like participation points basically). Highly recommend :)
If you learn well off of examples, then I would highly recommend her for you. She takes most of the class time reviewing homework problems that people have questions on, which is helpful at times and boring at others. She also gives great reviews for each exam. Good professor to have.
She was very nice for most of the class, eager to help, with clear explanations. However, about 3/4 through the semester she lost her temper and became an apathetic robot. She stopped issuing homework, interacting with (or even greeting) the class. Good teacher, but perhaps lets emotion get the best of her.
After looking on here, I thought she was going to be a great teacher - wrong! Not helpful at all, very unclear, literally yelled at us when we didn't understand. I went to every class and still got C's and D's on the tests even though I took the class before. Ended up with a B somehow. Don't take!
She is a great math teacher you can get, especially at ASU. Gives plenty of examples and is very helpful outside the class. She presents complex material in a step by step fashion, which makes the learning process easier. Ms. Brewer's class is organizes and expectations are clear. Tests are OK, if you go to classes and do all your work. Recommended
Brewer is the GREATEST! She's so nice and she does so many examples. She goes over every single homework problem and if you get the homework problems, you'll do well on the test. Brewer has a difficult class but she manages it extremely well. Everyone agrees in engineering that she's the best math teacher.
Great teacher. Had a horrible teacher for Calc 1, but she was amazing for calc 2. Almost always extends the homework (it is all on WebWork), gives great examples. Sometimes she goes a little fast but it is still understandable. Taking calc 3 with her now - AWESOME TEACHER
she is one of the the best teachers ever!! CARES ABOUT HER STUDENTS!!! she is very very helpful anytime .. i love going to class because of her smiling and enjoy teaching. class was little hard somehow .. maybe i don't get the 3D stuff but i really like the class because of her! TAKE HER!!
She doesnt teach at all, you walk in and pick up a worksheet and are expected to figure it out, when on a blue moon she does do an example, she talks so fast you cant understand the material, and then she earses it before you can even write it down....... teriable learning enviorment
She does tons of examples, helps with hw! and is super nice and always extends the online hw. She does do groupwork or attendence at the end of class which are easy points. I struggled with the class just because math 210 is hard overall but i would recommend Brewer for MAT210 !!
Ms. Brewer is a wonderful math teacher. I have taken her for 210 and 211 and each time she has provided me with great notes and a fairly easy online homework section. I definitely recommend going to class to learn material, sometimes she moves very fast. On top of that, she is so sweet and loves math in such a good, nerdy way!
Lectures are fast paced but very insightful and helpful. She's very good at answering questions and preparing students for test. Would highly recommend taking her for any math courses.
Amazing professor. She loves math and makes her students love it too! I definitely recommend taking her class, and don't buy the book you won't need it.
Ms. Brewer is an extremely nice and helpful professor. She does talk fast, but that is so she can get through all the challenging questions on the homework. Just don't space out in her lectures and you will do fine.
GREAT Calc professor! I had never taken calculus before college, so I was kind of nervous going into this class, but I ended up with an A! Ms. Brewer was clear about everything, and she frequently pushed back WebWork due dates. I never had to go to office hours, but she was very nice in answering any questions I ever had in class. TAKE HER CLASS!
Best math teacher I've taken. Very clear in all her lectures, and answers all questions. Goes a little fast, but is very helpful in office hours if you didn't catch everything. Often pushes back webwork/homework dates, and tests are very reasonable. Love her!
Smart prof and very helpful
Best math teacher at ASU by far. Take her for every math class you can you will not regret it.
I took her at MCC. She was snippy and confusing. The final "was" off the 2 tests that were given, her old final and the last 6 sections of the text. 24ish sections of info. The final was 8 questions off the last 6 chapters, 4 from the first 4 chapters and 1 from the middle. I ended up overstudying and dropping my 89 to a 70 something. Beware
She is a really easy professor. Does virtually all of the homework in class and offers extra credit if you do it at least 48 hours before it's due. Even if you don't like math, take her class. It is mandatory to go because she makes you do in class group work but it is all so easy and she is really helpful.
Went very fast over things that were harder to understand and elaborated on things that she already talked about several times. Kids always had so many questions on homework since they couldn't figure out how to apply the examples to the homework. Kept pushing due dates back because couldn't finish answering homework questions in class
Brewer is awesome! She's friendly and her class is easy - if you do the homework. Make sure to cover all the material you covered in class when it comes to the tests, though. She'll give a study guide, but she always forgets at least one type of question...and one question could be the difference between an A and B on the math department's tests.
Anyone who is interested in taking this class online, DO NOT CHOOSE BREWER. I don't know how she is usually, but I deeply regret having chosen her. Barely any communication, %50 online fee, more money to take the tests online (there was no other way of taking them other than online), oh did I mention NO COMMUNICATION! Trust me, please!!!!
I never communicate with my teacher. I bought the book but I didn't use it. Just follow the deadline to do the homework and take test. Very very easy to get an A. There are 5 written homework. Two tests. Some online homework. I just looked the examples and got full grade for my homework.
Took this class online and it is easier to understand the book than the videos she leaves online. I missed the deadline on homework and she would push it back so I could complete it. Really nice, but hard to understand for lessons.
Online class. Lots of homework via WebWork (can be very hard, use of online tools helps). Calc 1 isn't an easy class, but Brewer makes it easier. Practice tests are very close to actual tests (not hard at all if you study).I didn't read from the book or watch the useless lectures, I used youtube and read online, and did well.I would take her again.
This was an online course so those that didn’t do as they thought they would have only themselves to blame. She is a great professor and can help more if you’re willing to go to office hours. Very nice professor, anyone willing to put in the work can get an A in the class. I recommend taking her course.
Wonderful teacher. Super helpful . I suggest to take her. Best math teacher I have ever experienced my whole life.
She makes us work hard to get a C. Her homeworks are very tough and tiring! And the tests are even worse!
Mrs. Brewer is a phenomenal teacher. She consistently does homework problems in class and that a fourth of your grade right there. . You give what you get, do the study guide and you are most likely to do well. first test in my class and the class average was an 80, pretty impressive for calculus.
Great Instructor. Took her for mat210 and 211 online. Definitely recommend. I recommend tutoring too.
not a math person, but i got an A. pretty clear, theres lectures, super short quizzes, and homework for every lesson. only 3 tests. would recommend.
Pros-EZ WebWork (WW) points10% of final grade. EZ daily group work pts for attendance-5 pts. Cons-Good if you've already had this class, not good for 1st timers. She rushes the material & doesn't explain concepts well. WW, exams & lecture all have differn't type problems hard exams. No extra credit, no curve. Brutal grader
DOES NOT CURVE
For a session A online Calc III class, this professor was great - very willing to help & the course was easy to navigate. There is a LOT of webwork assigned, but she pushes due dates back almost every time. 2 of the 4 tests are proctored, but test questions are identical to homework questions. Great professor.
I took this class (Calculus 1) online and it was such an easy course to navigate. Webwork was easy to do and the book helped supplement what the lectures didn't cover. Easy to get points and if the webwork was understood then the tests were super easy.
Took online. Lectures are done by another teacher. Teacher skips steps in solving problems. Lectures are long and confusing. Did better by looking up lectures on YouTube by different teachers. Worst class I have ever taken. Would highly suggest finding another teacher.
While this is a lower level math class taking this class online made it exceptionally difficult. This is due to relatively confusing video lectures, dates that were not clearly expressed as due dates and prep quizzes that did not match the material that existed on exams. These prep quizzes would have only the basic problems which was not helpful.
Not much teacher to student interaction. Loads lecutres and slides to blackboard.
She speaks very fast. There is Group-work after each lecture for the attendance. She give a review before the test, try to study them hard because she get from them all the questions for the tests.
The only thing I didn't like about her was that her lectures were way too fast for me to comprehend comfortably. I found myself having to teach myself or get tutoring after lectures because I would only know how to do problems, but not understand concepts. Her lectures are her doing all the webwork problems in front of us basically.
If it wasnt for the attendance policy i would never even bother going to class. Al she does is go over textbook problems. Doesn't explain why something is happening or how she got to a certain point. She also is so fast its pratically impossible to take notes. At the end of class you get a short quiz on what you were supposed to learn 2 minutes ago
The course itself has some difficult material (first exposure to calculus), so just make sure you go to class and take tons of notes. And be awake, as she goes through examples lightning fast
This was seriously the hardest math class I've ever had to take. Brewer DOES NOT teach at all. She gives examples in class and basically just works through them herself at the speed of light not explaining anything. If you're bad at math I recommend finding a different math teacher since she doesn't teach. I hired a private tutor.
Mrs. Brewer was a great professor. She really tries to explain things, and then backs it up with many examples. She does go pretty fast, so you have to really pay attention. She's also one of the sweetest ladies I've ever met, she'll gladly answer any question you have and definitely wants you to do well in the class. 98% right out of HS pre-calc
Great lectures, plenty of examples, if people are complaining about her they didn't try hard enough. It is calculus effort is needed on your end, however she does have plenty on her end.
Took Differential Equations online. Brewer was perhaps one of the best instructors I have come across. There were literally dozens of students asking for help on the forums, and she responds to each question with specific ways to master the content as well working out problems in detail. Midterm and Final were tough, but came from the hw.
Awesome lecture. Gives many examples in class. Reviews for exams have very similar/same problems. Homework is important to learn the material and is all online. She gives group work at the end of every class for attendance. Very sweet & nice. Tests are tough, but what calc isn't
This professor is all over the place. Sometimes, she answers questions, but most of the time she doesn't and you and your classmates have to figure things out. She's very curt in meetings and doesn't want to talk. She had to ask her coordinator to answer questions, which is worrisome. She should know her own class, don't you think?
She's super super sweet and obviously cares about her student doing well. Goes really really fast so beware. 3 tests a semester. Lots of online homework. You have to work and actually try in her class if you want to even pass.
This class is a struggle for most. She goes REALLY fast, there is a lot of homework, and the tests are hard. I asked her for help after not doing well on the first test and she wasn't much help. Not the best experience
She's a very passionate teacher but the class itself is fairly difficult. There's online homework that's due every week and she tries very hard to help anyone who asks. She's super nice and was one of the best profs I've had at ASU
Honestly, choosing her class was the best decision. Coming from someone who hasn't had the best of luck with math teachers, Ms. Brewer is an absolute SAINT! I've never been in a calculus class before, but I can't recall a time where I retained as much info as I did in this class. I found her lectures really helpful, and she shows a lot of shortcuts
If you're already good at calculus you shouldn't have a problem, otherwise you need to rely on tutoring/ review sessions pretty much the whole semester. Attendance is based on a group work problem at the end of every class, and the tests are hard but almost identical to the sample tests. Do all the homework if you need a grade booster
If you don't focus during class you will fail. She is very fast going through the material and if you blink she will be on to the next subject. This being said, if you need help she is always available to help during her office hours. An extremely sweet lady who is passionate, just focus and you'll be good. I've never taken calc and I did alright.
The BEST Calc Professor you can take at ASU! Gives super clear notes that pertain directly to Webwork problems and ultimately the exams. Her tests are set-up as all free response which gives you a chance to earn partial credit, which she is more than fair with. Attendance is not mandatory but recommended b/c of the group work and attendance points
I took this class online so I can't speak to Brewer's teaching ability, but this class was made unnecessarily hard. I understand that since it's an online class you're supposed to put in more work, but I have to spend hours everyday doing the webwork and Matlabs. I'm getting behind in my other classes because of this course load for an easy class.
She is a really great professor who gives awesome notes. She goes fast so you have to keep up, but as long as you go to class (she gives attendance problems at the end of class), you'll do OK. You have to work to get a great grade. She genuinely cares for her students and wants to them to do well. Also won a Teacher of The Year award.
The class period mostly consisted of going over homework problems- which was very helpful. She absolutely knows what she is talking about and can explain concepts in simple terms. Probably the best math teach I had at asu (after taking MAT 265/266/267/275/343). Would recommend.
Did not have a good experience, but she is a good professor. Quick response to everyone on piazza. Grade is 55% based on midterm + final (Ouch!) I didnt enjoy lectures or textbook, and found myself studying outside material. Exam time limits (2hrs) infuriate me they always get me. Exams are tough! For exam success, study all webwork not notes.
For 266, her lectures are fast, but she provided great examples. The hw looks like the examples in class, and she has a review session before each exam that is nearly identical to the exam. For 275 online, she was very responsive to Piazza questions and thoroughly explained how to answer homework problems. She only teaches in a few video lectures.
Kathleen Brewer is very good, her exams are mostly same as homeworks.
Skilled mathematician and kind teacher. Brewer is patient and caring for her students. Provides ample resources through Blackboard and communicates well about homework and other info. Lectures are fast-paced, but examples help tremendously for homework. Homework credit and daily quizzes matter!
Very good at math but if you miss a day or dont pay attention in class you will become very lost very quickly. Shes not very entertaining and makes you take a lot of notes. Also has multiple homework assignments every week
Brewer helps you succeed in any and all ways. Her lectures focus mainly on the hw and how to do it The test qs are all variations of the webwork hws. She is very lax when it comes to test grades, with generous partial credit. I once wrote down only the wrong ans. with no work and she gave me 40%. 22.5% each exam, 30% final, 5% att., Lab 10%, 10% HW
She doesn't seem to care about her students' success. She used all lecture videos from another professor and doesn't respond to emails. She wants her students to use Piazza and doesn't respond to questions on there for up to 24-48 hours. I think I learned more from the textbook and my study group than anything she provided us with.
Prof Brewer doesn't seem to care about her class and copied her class from someone else's, which is evident by the way her syllabus was another professor's. She doesn't have office hours, offer extensions, or do extra credit; so be prepared to take this class without help. My advice; start a study group, read the text, and practice a lot!
Great Professor and her notes really mimic the webworks so homework is very easy to do. The review she does for each test is exactly the type of problems that come up on the exam so study those. Class I found generally easy just memorize the steps to solve the problems and you are golden.
Professor Brewer is one of the best math professors at ASU. Very smart and teaches the subject well. Goes over webwork examples in class, making homework doable. If there is something wrong with the MATLAB TAs or grader, Prof Brewer will contact the person in charge and resolve it. Very caring! Highly recommend.
Solid choice for a professor although she goes through her lectures very quickly!! Examples in class reflect the webwork which is similar to her exams. The reviews for the exams are very good indicators of what will be asked. Attend class as she gives quizzes almost every time at the end.
I love her! She explains things clearly in a way I can understand. Sometimes she goes too fast but if you ask her to slow down she will. She goes over homework questions (even before its due) and the exams are just like the homework. At first it seems like a lot of homework but I managed to get into a nice rhythm of doing it.
Webwork for each section. Interrupt her if too fast/doesn't make sense. Go to office hours! TAs will go through entire lab if you show up. Exams were similar to webwork/notes. Easy honors contract. Turn in attendance problem every class! Sometimes spends too much time completing problems, but overall good at explaining. Notes hard to read.
Her lectures are very clear and concise. She only gives you things that you will need especially during review days for exams. There's a lot of homework, but if you start in advance they are not bad. Most of the time she will do the hard hw problems on the day its due in class to help some students out. Very responsive to emails!
She goes over many examples similar to homework but can go too fast sometimes. Homework seemed like a lot in the beginning so make sure to find a schedule that works for you. Exams have questions similar to the Webwork and her reviews are helpful. Attendance is mandatory, however, since there is group work submitted at the end of each class.
Overall this teacher just isn't the best choice IMO. She teaches by showing you example after example until you see the pattern after enough times to get it. Her goal isnt to help you learn the concept, but to get you to throw the right formulas at the right things. Good luck trying to get anything extra out of her, she sticks to the books.
Brewer is not a good teacher at all. I understand that for an online calc II course you teach yourself. I did a great job of that. But she is TERRIBLE at communication. Brewer never responds to Piazza on time. A lot of times we had questions about the exams and she only replied AFTER the exams were over as if it matter. Take anyone else but Brewer.
Prof Brewer was always kind and helpful on discussion boards. We used another professor's lecture videos, which I thought overall were too fast-paced, skipped steps, and didn't have many example problems. I had to youtube everything. Brewer is also a TOUGH grader, no curves, no extra credit, NOTHING. You get the grade you earn and that's it!
Brewer doesn't actually teach anything; she uses existing videos and copied pretty much everything in the class from other professors. MAT 265 with Brewer is no different than teaching yourself Calculus, except you're paying for it. All work, including the exams, is done through WebWork. Content used for the class is fast and doesn't help you learn
Class is easy. She is available when you have any questions or need help.
Professor Brewer always was helpful in her Zoom Meetings and you can tell she wants to help out as much as she can. It can take a little bit to get responses to e-mails. The class itself was a bit of a challenge. You'll have plenty of homework. I took it during the summer so I spent 35 hours a week working on it. Make sure to have a clear schedule!
Ms. Brewer is an alright teacher. Taught myself the entire course using Jay Abramson's recorded lectures, but she hosts office hours on a regular basis and goes in depth into any question asked. Generous with exam corrections and gave extra 2% credit for those who would pass the final exam with 85% and above. Not too bad, would recommend.
Ms. Brewer is by no means bad at teaching. Sure, she sometimes jumps ahead on topics and doesn't always give substantial examples, but she gets the content across. What I personally dislike about her, however, is her complete disregard for a student's situation and unwillingness to work with them.
Brewer was less than helpful and never responded to emails. She used other ppl's lectures/questions. Homework HEAVY, I would put aside 10-20 hours a WEEK if not more if you want the A. Tests weren't terrible (2 hour limit, 14-21 questions) but the reviews are hit or miss on being useful. She does hold office hours but they are super disorganized.
Professor Brewer held frequent office hours. She notified students in advance and sent out recordings later. The class is, of course, challenging, but Professor Brewer was very helpful. If exam answers were near enough to the final solution, she gave out partial credit. You are also awarded extra credit if you score A, B, or C on the Final exam.
Professor Brewer is one of the best educators that I have ever personally encountered. She goes to great lengths to make sure that you understand the material. She does not spoon-feed you the course, but she does describe the material in great detail. She gives partial credit on the exams. She is tough but fair.
Do not take the online class. It was awful. The lectures weren't made by her and you were just basically listening to a worse youtube video for the lessons.
She is very nice and really does care about her students. Although beware if you want to take the session A online. There is a TON of homework and can be very hard to do since the provided lectures are not hers. The lectures are old and barely go in depth on the subjects, which makes the hw very hard to do. You will be teaching yourself.
If I hadn't already taken this class before, I would not have received the grade I did. This course took 10-20 hours a week because I took it session A, so I quit my job just for this class. This is a more self-taught course and she has a very hands-off style of teaching. You have to approach her for help and she does not teach, only guides.
I took the Session A online version of the course, which was much faster and more self-paced than normal courses. I cannot stress this enough-if you are traditionally not great a math without help, do not take this class online. The lectures provided by the professor are not helpful at all, leaving you to pretty much learn the content on your own.
There is a lot of homework going into this since I took it as a A session. About 4 WebWork modules due every week. Definitely should take advantage of her office hours as she explains things very well. The lectures aren't her own, but she lets the students choose her office hours as long as you contacted her.
This class has lots of homework and the tests aren't easy, but this professor makes it a bit easier. There is extra credit available on every test and on the final exam, and the lectures on canvas are straight forward. Prof Brewer is very understanding and caring, and has great communication through emails and announcements. Would take her again!
All grades were transcribed through WebWork. All she did was take the score from one and put it in to ASU. I watched her zoom meetings and her personality seemed abrasive, and she is quick to interrupt you when you try to explain your confusion. It is a content heavy class. 3 tests, 1 derivative mastery test, and a cumulative final.
She responds quickly which is good. However, unforgiving. There's no accommodation that could be made if you need one. She also doesn't give partial credits for scratch papers (unlike my previous math prof) which is a bummer. Calculus is hard for some people like me, I wish professors would offer more support, resources, and kindness.
There is a lot of homework which I noticed is common with ASU math classes. You get unlimited tries on the HW and Ms. Brewer always responded to my emails in a timely manner If you don't understand something schedule office hours with her she will go over any questions that you need help with. The lectures are bad but there not made by her.
If you can take MAT265 with Brewer, I would! She does a great job of being available to help and she records office hours so you can watch them back! I took the 6 week Summer B course, it's super fast and has lots of HW and 5 exams in a short schedule. If you need help, just message Brewer and she will set up office hours with you. Good Luck!
she would make a LOT of mistakes for a professor that the students often point out, which also often becomes confusing. She teaches higher level courses so she doesn't put a lot of efforts in explaining stuff at this level class. I would suggest you not take her if you have difficulty in understanding calculus.
She is okay and willing to provide help. However, she is really bad at teaching basic concepts. She spent 95% of class time walking through the examples, which she basically did questions in class. 5% of the time are talking about the concepts. It will be a catastrophe if you don't understand the concepts. Be prepared to study ahead if you take it.
I had the pleasure of having Dr. Brewer for Linear Algebra which in itself is not too bad of a class, I was doing pretty decent until I got food poisoning, which in turn sabotaged my final, however I still passed by a longshot. Dr. Brewer would hold zoom meeting where you could ask questions and she would be more than happy to answer.
She used Edfinity for homework, which came with solution guides to all of the problems, making the homework really easy. She does homework problems in class, too. She often teaches sections out of order or jumps around, and makes little mistakes in calculations that students had to point out. The tests were much easier than the ASU MAT275 reviews.
She jumps around in lectures and it's really hard to follow what she is doing. If you look down for 10 seconds she's already moved slides. She teaches by example so if you learn that way, she's not that bad. Tests are weighted very heavy so be sure to show all your work. Edfinity is way better webwork
Great professor who records office hours - super helpful if you need extra support. The class is tough, but Brewer is available and gives partial credit. I found unstuck AI useful for practice problems alongside the textbook.
