She is a pretty good teacher. Sometimes she will get confused while teaching but she always corrects her mistakes and is willing to explain anything to the students. She really wants you to learn the material and is often available for office hours.
Great teacher, don't miss class, you WILL learn ALOT every day so don't get caught in a hole. Teacher really cares and likes all her students. She is also very approachable, If your a slow learner, however, you WILL have to put in extra time and effort.
this isn't an easy class, but if you want a really good understanding of PreCalc for future classes definitely take her class! You can tell she really likes to teach and wants everyone to do well, however, you do have to do the assigned homework and take notes during class, so you shouldn't miss class
Amazing math teacher! She is always willing to help you after class, or during her free time if you don't understand the course material. Most of her quizzes are based on text book examples so make good use of the text book. The course is tough, you have to put in some extra work outside of class. The group work she assigns in class is very helpful
Well organized teacher. She gives extra-credit opportunities. I would recommend her if you struggle with math, she is a great teacher. This course is tough so study the text book examples and work sheets she gives you, this will help with her exams and quizzes. She gives you homework quizzes once a week so you have to always do your homework .
Kathleen is a great teacher. She works well with her students and stays focused on her work. When tests are completed she goes over what was wrong and right and explains how to fix them. Once in awhile she throws in some extra credit work which is always nice. I just wish she taught 0482.
Ms. Dexter is the best math teacher Ive ever had! Im terrible at math and she makes it easy to follow. If your not great at math take her, she goes through the steps slowly on every problem so its understandable.
She is a great teacher and her tests are very reasonable. She gives a ton of extra credit opportunities, so as long as you show up to class and try your best on the homework you can get an A. She explains concepts very clearly, and is really open to answering any questions you may have. Would definitely recommend taking her.
Ms. Dexter is really straightforward, quiz and test questions come right from the homework, however a few surprises every now and then. Lecture consist of her going over an entire sections worth of examples and then makes you work on packets in class (kind of annoying). I would rather have time to practice problems after the examples are presented.
She's very nice and insightful. Class consists of only three tests and two quizes every week. One of them is a homework quiz. She's very linnet when it comes to grading and her tests are on the easier side. I totally recommend her.
MS. Dexter is the most awesome teacher I've ever had. Take her you won't regard it!!!
Dexter was a great teacher! She's very clear about what she expects. This class is made up on two quizzes a week (one homework quiz, and one regular quiz without notes). Usually 2-4 questions on each quiz. You will have three tests and they have around 15 problems. Also, during class you learn with packets and most of the examples are from the book
She is a great teacher to learn from. Very helpful and great at presenting the material. Can easily be approached if your having problems with the material. She does give a lot of homework and does not grade homework. Gives 2 tests per week,( one hw quiz and other regular quiz) and her test were at times kinda hard to understand what she wanted.
Prof. Dexter is the best teacher I have ever met, very helpful, and her class is fun too :)
Dr Dexter is by far THE BEST math prof at COD. I took the course over the summer which is already a hard term because it is accelerated. Tests and quizzes in this course were tough but not impossible. Prof Dexter made Calc 2 very easy to understand and I would definitely recommend her for any math course.
Straight forward math teacher. Very fair. Best math teacher at College of DuPage. Every math teacher should just bow down to her.
well, she's ok, but 1 thing i hate about her is we have to write section summery after each chapter
Go to class for this one, if you dont, you wont pass, She is very clear on how she teaches and makes MATH FUN!!!
if u really want to take challenge take her. she will give you challenging work to do.
She's a great teacher and a very nice person, she knows what she's doing and will help any time you need it. I took the class Spring 2014. I spent a lot of time on homework because there were a lot of problems to do but it helps prepare you very well. She isn't gonna throw things you don't know in tests. She's also easy on the eyes :)
Dexter was a very good Professor, she has a different teaching style, and changes her tests every semester depending on what the students are having trouble with. This class was not easy but if you work for it you'll definitely pass.
Very straight forward, can sometimes go through material too fast during lecture. I always found math an easy subject to pick up, however this class was difficult to do that with. All homework is online through web assign, 12 page summary after each section, 3 tests + final exam, quizzes every friday. Recommend only if you took calc 1 prior.
Tests are pretty straight forward, but still it's calculus and you have to study really hard no matter which professor you take. Although the class is easier to understand if you have previously taken calc. Quizzes questions are similar to text book examples. I thought Dexter was an awesome teacher overall.
Do the homework. Attend class. Review ur notes. She is very helpful teacher. Tests are not that hard at all if u do ur work then only. Quiz are easy.
She is a very nice teacher and uses Philosophy and Biology to explain her formulas during her problems, especially word problems. But it can be confusing for some who aren't familiar with much Biology and Philosophy. She does make sure everything is clear with her students though.
Very nice, will answer questions well, and is ALWAYS there for you when you need help. Lectures are straight from the book, and tests are very straight forward (quizzes were actually somewhat tricky). Overall, pretty easy for a calc prof., and bummed I won't be able to take her for calc III.
Explains concepts very well. Online homework is extremely tedious. The quizzes are mostly based of homework. Tests are difficult. Her trig class helped a lot for me when I had to take calculus. Overall good professor. Not to hard to get an A.
I would marry this woman if I could. Absolutely brilliant, with a deep understanding and strong passion for her subject material. Will answer any question to the best of her ability, and will not move on until she is sure that everyone has an adequate understanding of the topic. I have never had a better math teacher.
I love Dexter! Her lectures were always interesting and even though I'm not a big fan of math, she made the class very enjoyable. Assigns a lot of online homework though. No need for textbook, so save your money!
The best possible teacher you could have for any math course! Her explanation of steps are very extensive and she makes sure that you understand the content. Made precalc enjoyable. She can assign a lot of homework but it is huge help for quizzes and tests. Will take her for many of the possible math courses during the rest of my tenure at COD!
Dr. Dexter is a great professor, one of the best in the math department. Calculus 2 was a challenging course and she did a great job at making it as easy as possible to understand. She can be a tough grader and expects the best from her students but thats because it is a high level math course and she knows you can do the work.
Professor Dexter is one of the best professors I've ever had. Her lectures are very organized and she cares about students' learning. Her quizzes and tests are very straightforward as long as you study. She is very accessible outside of class and encourages students to keep up with their work. Makes you work but an incredible professor.
I got a 96% in Calc II because of this wonderful woman. Professor Dexter's way of teaching is so effective and so crystal clear that Calc II was one of the best courses I've ever taken (I actually really enjoyed it!). Her quizzes and exams are very straightforward and based off of homework. TAKE PROFESSOR DEXTER. SHE IS THE BEST!!!
She is hands down the best Calculus I teacher. Her lectures give plenty of examples, and she will always answer any questions asked during class. The class isn't an easy A, but it isn't the hardest course you'll ever take. You should be fine if you paid attention in AP Calc in high school. Also lots of Engineering Pathways students take her classes
She may be a solid teacher but her grading is ridiculous. She'll find the most absurd reasons to fail you on an exam even if you have the right idea. She offers little to no partial credit and makes you work of you want a C. Make sure to spend countless hours studying as she never gives you a study guide that tells what will be on her exams
Dr. Dexter knows her stuff. She will not give you the class on a silver platter, you WILL work hard for it, but she is clear in her requirements and fair in her grading. If you do the work you will get a good grade. Her lectures are thorough and complete, she takes the time to explain things. Calc is hard no matter the instructor. She cares.
One of the best math professor I have taken at this college. Her lectures are very clear. Most of the homework is online with feedback. She also gives many in class example and practice problems which I found really helpful. If you regularly do homework and focus in class, you won't have any issue in getting a decent grade.
Very solid professor; no complaints. She really likes math and will try to pass that appreciation on to you.
Dexter is one of the best math teachers at COD. She is very thorough with lectures. Some people mentioned she was a hard grader, but she does give partial credit, and in comparison to other teachers she is probably the most fair grader. Don't give up on calc 2 without taking her class. I had an F in calc 2 with another teacher and got an A with her
She waits until the end of the class to give out quizzes, no study guides, and is very critique on "perfect math writing". These are just some things to look out for. But, she's a very nice teacher and gives great lectures.
Our math class was a different type of math, meaning that she would just have us log on and work on objectives via the Aleks website. However, what I really enjoyed about her was that she was willing to stay after class and help students with problems they did not understand. She was very helpful. 9/10 would take again.
If you think she'll be easy on you, think again! Explains the material well but Is the most ridiculous grader you can imagine. She throws in very hard questions on her quizzes and exams and leaves no room for partial credit. Be prepared to commit hours onto studying for her class. I'm an A student but she makes the material harder than it has to be
Amazing professor, really shows she cares, always available to help. Tests are very fair. She assigns weekly summaries about the concepts learned that week, and although they can be a drag, they help you A LOT with comprehending the material!! Definitely worth driving to another campus to take her. BEST CALC TEACHER AT COD.
Dexter is an amazing professor she really makes sure her students learn the material and understand it. She does this by having students write summaries, and by assigning chapter worksheets before tests. Although it may take a while, that extra work makes a big difference in understanding the material in class.
Dexter is an excellent teacher! One thing to know about her is that she makes you write papers. Now I know what you're thinking and I hate papers too... But this is a life saver-- why rely on doing well come test day and screwing a problem? The papers though tedious supplement your grade and so long as you put the work in, you'll get the great.
Her lectures are very thorough, but when asked pertinent questions she replies with "I'm not giving you the answer. You should research that on your own". Part of your grade is to turn all the formulas she gave during class into papers but she'll correct you if you don't word it correctly. By far one of the most unreasonable teachers I've ever had
This professor is amazing. Be ready for a ton of mandatory homework; HOWEVER, most questions on quizzes/tests are from the homework. Her lectures were extremely clear. In order to do well make sure you pay attention in her lectures and do the homework. She's also approachable and more than willing to help you before and after class.
Unless you've taken Calc AB and BC in high school take this prof! if not skip. she is a tough grader. Loads of online hw. I took her honors class and had to drop. She was willing to help though. Quizzes every Friday and every week you have to do 1 pg summaries on what she taught. very tough grader. tests & quizzes very difficult. good luck!
I went to her many times for help and she keeps saying the same thing, "I don't want to give you the answer" with no other help. She will take off points if you don't say everything that you did to get to your answer. If you have taken this class before and understood the material you're fine otherwise you might as well make this your only class.
Nice lady, helpful, considerate, explains the ideas well. Good teacher.
Very confusing. We had hardsheet paper homework, online homework and additional online homework with self made practice tests due all in the same time period. quizes/tests were every friday and was STUPID because we would learn one topic one week and when friday came she would test us on the topic we learned the week before, not present week. dumb!
Really good and organized lectures. Tests really arent bad either she gives plenty of time.
I was just coming off a horrific experience in Calc 1 and this was completely different. Her explanations and examples are SO great, I needed the book only for practice problems. Incorporates online learning, which was fun/satisfying. Personally not a fan of the written summaries, but I was so much more confident b/c of the varied assignments.
The tests are the majority of your grade, but there is a lot of homework and quizzes. I took it online, so the section videos taught me and not her. She doesnt answer her emails, which is really frustrating when it pertains to a mistake on your exam. Im taking the class for credit at my university, so honestly, just take it and get it over with.
The best way to have a good grade on math class is to choose other professor. Class with her its wasting time and money.
Took her over last summer to complete my last math requirement and I to this date absolutely regret taking her. COD and her made literally made me want to cry on top of that took this class during a pandemic and I must say they were not understanding that it's hard to learn math online. If you decide to take her just know that you're on your own.
Professor Dexter is a solid teacher. There was a good amount of homework, which is not an issue if you organize well. The main thing is that the learning is individual, as all of the videos are seen at your own time. It can be frustrating sometimes when you have a question and have to email her. You earn the grade depending on your effort.
The tests (midterm, final, and 2 take home) take up about 60% of the grade. She explains the topics well enough to understand them but she is kind of a boring person. As long as you do the HW and quizzes on time, you should be prepared for the tests
She was pretty boring, but a fine teacher. She spoke so quietly I fought to stay awake most of her classes. Grades are mostly made up of tests and quizzes so you need to know the material. She was a pretty good teacher, but I never felt comfortable asking questions.
Beware of the tests and quizzes in this class, they come out of nowhere and plummet your grade. Dexter is a tough grader and you WILL need to spend those 10 hours outside of class studying for the class as she says in the syllabus. Its a losing battle with calc for most students, but this one is exceptionally hard.
Do NOT take this Professor. She is nice and all but barely helps if u take the summer course. The end of the class material is so stupid, it includes 3! And some other bs numbers. She was terrible with communicating. Heres a tip, if u want to pass online, use An app to help u with the course. She gives u no time to study before the final.
She is nice, but that does not mean she's a good teacher. The amount of hw is crazy, I did take the class over the summer, but we easily had 100 problems a week. Her feedback isn't great, makes you feel as if it is 100% your fault if your not understanding the material. Maybe she is better if she teaches it in the fall/spring semesters.
Makes you do pages of notes that you have to scan in to her. You also have aleks homework due every week. beware the midterm and final are really hard. they are harder than the homeworks and quizzes she posts
little to no involvement with the class, links someone else's videos and work sheets. homework does not properly prepare you for tests. heavy workload.
Avoid at all costs. The midterm and the final are graded on an all or nothing basis. no partial credit for your work. wish i dropped this class before it was too late.
This was a very straight forward class. Everything you have to do is listed out for you. If you do the work you should pass. The professor was really nice and answered me right away when I asked her questions. I don't understand the people who are complaining. It's not a hard class. The final was hard but she does give a lot of partial credit.
In my personal experience, the professor's teaching style can be difficult to follow, particularly when it comes to complex math problems. The professor is friendly and approachable, but her approach to problem-solving often lacks clarity and can be confusing for students. I do not recommend taking her class if you struggle with math. Avoid her.
THE WORSE EVER! The amount of work received was so much. Her way of "teaching" was assigning math videos off of YouTube of ANOTHER professor and then assigning us homework on ALEKS.
shes friendly & easy to reach but workload dumped on us is ridiculous for a net class, considering none of the lectures are her own, and she doesn't have to grade anything bc ALEKS does it for her. Assignments, notes, quizzes every night, & tests must be taken at the testing center. If u need balance between life & school, definitely dont take her.
This was the best online class I've ever taken. You will learn A LOT. It's calculus so of course its hard, but she explains things really well and really wants you to learn it and will help you if you have questions.
I don't think I have ever hated a teacher more in my life. This teacher makes you so extreme amounts of homework and notes every single night (3-4 hours). This teacher has no sense of time and that this class should not take up your ENTIRE day to complete, absolute BS. I do not recommend her if you want to have a life over the summer.
Prof was difficult and didn't work with the students, the lectures were bad or you had to teach yourself from PowerPoint. Lots of homework and little accessibility outside of class.
Entire course in micro managed to the extent that if you don't learn from her videos (which you won't) then you are screwed because there is not enough time to actually learn the material after completing the guided notes. Has 5 to 6 due dates per week, doesn't trust her students to manage time on their own. Would never recommend or take her class.
Well organized class. She's flexible on due dates except for tests. Tests have to be taken in person. She really likes the subject and wants you to like it too. This was my second time taking calculus and the online format worked well for me but it was a challenging class.
Easy class if you watch the videos and do the homework. I tried to skip the videos at first but that didn't go well. Once I watched them, the class was pretty easy. Lots of homework but its just like the tests so you are ready for the tests. She wants you to do well and asks for feedback from the class.
Not a terrible teacher, but not a good one for your first introduction to Calculus. My background in math was not strong, and I did not do myself any favors by taking the online course. She takes no effort to help your foundational skills, and micro manages your due dates. Before I dropped, I had something due every day of the week.
Beware of this professor, I took her class during fall and let me tell you she was horrible. The comments wasn't what it seem in RMP. Speaks quietly, fast, and incomprehensible. Divide and Conquer Math, a professor from COD that does Youtube, is magnificent. A quarter of her class dropped her class and I should've been one of them but I was naive
I LOVED this class. I really disagree with the review saying she doesn't explain foundational topics. She goes through every step and reviewed things from previous classes. This was my second time taking calculus, and it made sense this time because she doesn't leave out steps. I was nervous taking this class online but the structure helped a lot.
I took it in summer, the amount of homework was large We also had these weekly summaries that were very tough graded, I did not pass any of the 8 summaries. The TESTS were really difficult. The problems were very different to the ones in MML and much more complex. DO NOT TAKE HER IN SUMMER. Expects you to remember all from trig and logarithms.
Best math teacher I've ever had. Amazing explanations. I've always struggled with math in the past, but the way she explains it makes sense. Definitely take this teacher. Homework was reasonable and tests were like quiz and homework questions.
Online class thats not for credit but for next math class. Very straight forward class, if you do the work you will pass. Teacher is very nice and answers questions fast.
She is a very tough grader but she really does do a good job with lectures and answering questions, also knows how to keep class light! The only down side to her class is that she really is very tough on the grading!
I was nervous about taking this online, but the class was really organized and the professor wants you to do well. She really cares and tries to help you. The exams were like the reviews and the homework. If you do the work, you will pass. Would definitely take her again.
I took MATH0481 online in the fall, and she made it very easy to understand the course. There were 4 tests, including the final. The final replaced one of your lowest test grades as long as you got an 80% or higher on it. She had ready-to-print notes that were easy to follow along with the videos. 100% recommend taking a class with this professor.
There's definitely a lot of work but as long as you put in time and effort, you'll do well in her class. She provides plenty of resources and she checks everyone's progress at least once a week or when a test is coming up. The video lectures helped me tremendously and you can always go back to it if you're struggling. Overall, would have her again!
Calculus 1 is a really hard class to begin with and you have to be ready to put in the work. Very lecture heavy, homework heavy, and sometimes it felt like she taught as if we already knew the content. There are two tests, quizzes, mini quizzes, summaries, and the final. Overall an okay experience. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!
This was my second time taking calculus, and professor Dexter explains it so much better than my first professor. It made sense this time and was so much less stressful. Definitely recommend!! Just be prepared to do the work. It keeps you very busy but it's worth it because I actually learned it this time.
Dr. Dexter's video lectures were phenomenal. They made the course much easier than I thought it would be. There is a lot of homework and some of it was harder than the tests, but it was still good practice and made the tests seem easy. If you stay a little bit ahead of the schedule and prepare well for the exams, you'll be fine.
So much unnecessary work should get rid of the study guides to scan just makes more stress and wastes time and the videos aren't helpful she does let you start early but the work u need to do is too much that she doesn't even grade the computer does it for her
Skips very important steps in lecture and will rush to complete sections in 5 minutes before class ends, assuming you understand it entirely. If you are struggling and having a hard time understand examples she gives outside of class(homework/worksheets) there's really no way to get good clarification. No guidance for exams either.
I took Dexter for Calc 1 and 2 and she's pretty good at her job. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and has very well structured and planned lectures. She is a tough grader although im pretty sure all professors at this level are so get used to it. She DOES want to help you so if you're struggling go to her office hours.
She is very tough but she does care about the students but sometimes rushes through problems due to a lack of time but is always willing to help over discord, email, or at her office hours.
