Of my 5 years at York University, Dr. Fortune's "Women in Psychology" course is in my top 2 courses. Her teaching style is phenomenal, she interacts with the class, and will state clearly if she doesn't know something (which is rarely!). Lecture slides are well-constructed, the textbook was excellent, and she is overall an exceptional teacher.

This is the one course at York that actually made me open my eyes on all things concerning the psychology of women. Dr. Fortune was such a pleasure to have as an instructor. Her lectures were very well organized, she was hilarious and made class very interactive. Her tests were straightforward as well. I HIGHLY recommend taking a course with her!

dr fortune is amazing! very engaging in lectures and very clear and concise. also very knowledgeable on psychology. attendance isnt mandatory but she leaves blanks in her online slides and the slides are actually complete in lecture so you do need to go to get all the information. a dedicated amazing prof!

Dr. Fortune is one of the most incredible professors I have ever had. Her lectures were scintillating and she explains concepts clearly, and is open to questions. I highly recommend going to class for participation marks and to fill the blanks in the slides. If you're reading this Dr. Fortune, please teach history of psych! You'd make it amazing!:)

Great professor, would definitely take again. Textbook is important to read but exams lean more towards lecture material, which has heavy overlap. Super interesting lectures and she doesn't talk slowly or go off topic too much.

AMAZING PROF! Her lectures are super interesting and surprisingly useful towards my interest in marketing. Show up to lectures because her slides have fill-in the blanks and she often assigns in-class reflection papers worth 1% of your grade. Tests cover the material on her slides. The two assignments are simple. With some effort, easy A.

A solid choice for a professor. I have some very minor complaints, but I just tack these down to her being a newer Prof. A word of advice - she is serious about being referred to as "Professor Fortune"... don't go for the first name! Where she truly shines is in providing additional resources - amazing learning opportunities for psych majors.

Kathleen is an amazing professor! I loved her 1010 class and would highly recommend her. As long as you read the textbook and attend lectures it is very easy to get an A plus. PSYC1010 has a ton of bonus opportunities and in her class it was an extra 3% so be sure to do the forums.

She is a very good lecturer! I can tell she's passionate about the material. And she's also a very nice person. She has lots of opportunities for bonus marks like in-class reflections or online discussion posts. Her tests are fairly straightforward. Most of the info you need is on the slides but it would be good to read the textbook too for an A.

Attend all the lectures and listen to her while she teaches, you will get an easy A. She gives many chances for bonus marks. She makes the lectures real interesting and easy to learn. Dr. Fortune is a real gem among the few profs who actually cares about their students.

Kathleen is my favourite prof I've ever had. Very funny, super engaging, very clear, lax marking, and cares about her students. Her 7-10PM lectures were the highlight of my week. She made me, an introvert, want to participate each class. Her tests are all MC and easy if you skim the slides and listen in class (she says what will be on there). 12/10

This is prob the most honest review you will read. This class was pretty interesting and is actually structured for students to get a good grade. She is one of the best profs at york. Her lectures were really interesting and engaging. The tests were not easy but doable, you have to study hard for getting a good mark. Also, you require a good level of writing.

Such an amazing class with clear grading criteria from the start. Tests are based on her lectures and textbook. Her lectures are actually very informative, interesting, and help a lot when studying for the midterm. There is one literature review that I thought was fairly marked. Do participate in the weekly forums as they do bring up the grade.

Dr. Fortune shows passion and had interesting supplementary videos and discussion posts each week. The midterm was difficult due to insufficient time for short answers, but she took our feedback into account and adjusted her final exam format. She even posted lectures in advance, which made things more flexible for students.

There are a lot of bad reviews but most of them are not true. She was an amazing professor, her content is fairly interesting and you learn a lot. She is also very organized and it is a class you have to work for and the bad reviews are from students who were rude to her and not the other way around.

Dr. Kathleen is an amazing professor with very interesting lectures. As long as you study the textbook, you'll be good. We had concerns on the first exam the first time and she addressed that for the second exam. definitely one of my best. She has great ratings with Ryerson, and don't know why York students are complaining.

As a first year honours psychology student, I found that the material was not particularly challenging, or out of the scope of what should be taught. Tests have some trick questions, but overall I would certainly take another course with this professor.

One of the best profs I ever had for a psychology class at York. Her lectures are interesting and helpful. Tests and assignments are average not too easy or hard. TAs were a bit strict and deducted marks on assignments on the simplest things! She gives you endless of opportunities to boost your grades, so do everything on time.

The course is interesting and the prof cares about her students. Yes, theres a lot assignments but its for the benefit of the students, because if they do bad on a couple of things, they can still boost their grade with the remaining material. Took this online during Covid, professor adapted well to that. Recorded lectures can be overly long, but if you watch them and take good notes the class is pretty simple. You might want to read the book, but I didn't find I needed to. Don't have to show up to class but it really helps.

Weekly chapter quizzes and discussion forums. ( EASY MARKS - but put effort!) Only two assignments that are personal which are great since it helps you out. The exam is multiple-choice, if you attended the lectures and review lightly you'll be good.

One of the best profs I had honestly. I have never met her but her lectures alone give me so much knowledge that can actually be applied in real life such as how to cope with stress, how to be a good parent and etc. She basically gives 20% from quizzes (that you can redo until you get 100%), discussion forums and research participation which is fun

While this course could be a little hard at times I still found it to be amazing. if you get involved in the course it is alot more fun. You're going to hear mixed reviews about Dr. Fortune however I thought she did an amazing job with this class. Many things were required and we had a lot of writeups however the grading criteria was very clear. For her exams, you need to take good notes and you will do well. Professor Fortune is a really kind professor and is enthusiastic when it comes to teaching the course. I attempted to take PSYC1010 with different professors, such as Jubis and McCann, but would drop the course midway due to grading scheme. Professor Fortune is awesome! Dr. Fortune, was my first year psych prof and I really enjoyed her classes. She was. real sweetheart and I feel so lucky to have had her as my prof. She really tried to make the course as easy and manageable as possible considering the current situation with the pandemic. Prof Fortune really cares about her students and is extremely flexible with the course and grade. Lectures were great and had a PowerPoint each week if you wanted to go at your own pace. There's a textbook, but you don't really need it, as she is very clear in lectures. Quizzes and weekly discussions were free marks as long as they were completed.

Very generous when it comes to extra marks, but she teaches VERY large classes so dont expect individual requests from her. When it comes to assignments, shes really strict on proper APA formatting. Otherwise, shes a great professor and Id recommend everyone whos interest in Psych to take her class.

Tests are pretty heavy and a bit difficult. Assignments however are very easy to do well on. Most people forget that she does not mark the assignments, its usually the TAs. She seems really caring however she does try to keep the average low. Do the discussion post forums and the weekly quizzes and it'll make up for losing marks from the tests!

Grades come from weekly quizzes and discussion posts (both easy marks), as well as 2 graded papers and 2 midterms. No final. The tests are very fair. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Fortune. The lecture content was engaging and Dr. Fortune always provided cool extra resources. one side she is my first york university professor, on the other side I back to university after 15 years therefore she is not actually my first university professor and I can figure out different between professor. She is so professional and know her students unless she has too many students. I suggest her 100%, she is the best.

I enjoyed Dr. Fortune's lectures, they presented space for open discussions, which she always expanded upon. Like any other psychology course, textbook required reading is heavy. However, I found that most of what we read in the textbook was presented in long lectures, and discussion was encouraged.... making learning new concepts MUCH easier.

Excellent professor, clear in her teaching and hosts interactive classes. There is a LOT of back and forth discussion in her classes where everyone shares their ideas, which is nice, but makes the lectures very long (usually 2hr+). Grade is split into few components, each worth a lot. Read the book, DO THE PRACTICE QUIZZES and you will do well!

Majority of the mark was made up of two tests with 80 questions each, as long as you reviewed the textbook and attended lectures the questions were fair and representative of what you learned. She was patient and engaged in the online lectures, answered any questions

Fair course weight. It's a year couse, 2 tests and 1 assignment for each term, also monthly participation( discussion forum). All tests are in the form of MC.

Honestly, although her tests can be quite odd as well as her assignment expectations, it was really nice to be able to get endless opportunities to boost my mark. I was able to get an 85 in this class and I did a really good job learning the material. She cares to make sure there is fair game with the course content.

She's a very nice professor. I did ALL the things she gave us to do and did VERY WELL, that's my definition of a GREAT professor. She likes podcasts a lot :) The TA was also amazing. I did cengage too, and it helped me a lot.

She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about psychology! Her lectures were engaging and interesting and she was clear about what was expected in order to do well on her tests and assignments. Her tests were about exactly what she said they would be on and the assignments were graded fairly by her TAs.

Interesting course, material is not too difficult too. Tests are fair. Only downside is that lectures are not recorded. Kathleen is a great professor, her lectures are not boring, they are engaging. The course breakdown is; 2 exams (one 25% and other 20%), personal paper 15%, research paper 30%, discussion forums 8%, and academic honesty quiz 2%.

This full year course had a lot of material to cover, but professor Fortune made it enjoyable. Her lectures are very long, but she is engaging nonetheless. There are many opportunities to receive extra percent in this course, and her TA's marked papers fairly. The tests were not challenging if you complete the textbook questions. Choose this prof.

Prof. Fortune was absolutely amazing. She ensures her lectures contain information needed for the tests (which are multiple choice) and ensures to let students know in lecture what slides are important. She includes a mandatory online textbook with quizzes for extra credit regardless of grade. I would gladly take her class again!!

Its hard to go wrong with any class taught by Dr. Fortune. She is responsive, easy to reach and is very passionate about the content she teaches. While her assessment method is not my favourite (I prefer classes with a few exams and a big paper), her approach makes it very difficult to fall behind on content and is overall easier for most students.

Very clear and concise assignment prompts highlighting exactly what she wants for the assignment, why she is assigning it, step by step instructions, how it will be graded and a rubric. her lectures are also clear and entertaining. i would highly recommend her.

I thought she was a great prof. She goes in depth for the lectures and the textbook was very helpful. There were forums and homework assignments that boosted your grade a lot even if you did not do well on the tests. The tests were not hard if you reviewed her lectures and did the homework.

I had Kathleen for my full year psychology course this year and let me just say, she is actually the best! She records all of her lectures and gives clear and funny and relatable examples to go along with whatever she is presenting in class and she always makes sure to give very clear grading criterias for her assignments. tests multiple choice!

This professor is so freaking amazing!!! I retook this course to get a better grade and got an A+. I had Dr. Jubis before and got a D. I am so grateful that I retook the course it helped me boost my GPA. Her lectures are so nice. She really cares about her students because she makes sure they all get a good chance to work hard for their marks.

Dr. Fortune is very accomodating. She cares about her students and is passionate about what she teaches. Tests were multiple choice, content were pulled from lecture discussions, lecture slides, podcasts, textbook.

Honestly the best professor i have had so far. Organized, kind, good lecture content. Test outlines were clear, assignments were properly explained and grading was fair. Only 3 hour lecture I could actually fully pay attention to. Engaging with students and overall just very good at her job. 10/10 recommend

One of the best first year profs. Tests are easy, and a variety of assignments help in learning. Lectures are to the point, but it's understandable since it's just an intro course. A piece of advice she gave us was to reflect on our intentions for attending university and revisit it when we feel overwhelmed. I still do it, and it helps me so much.

Dr.Fortune is an AMAZING professor and I really enjoyed PSYC-1010 with her. Her lectures are super engaging and not to mention she is very funny during her lectures which keeps me very engaged. Her test outlines are super clear so there is not surprises and so is her overall grading system. I would 100% take one of her courses again

Dr. Fortune is the best. Rather than rote-memorization, her classes promote deep and meaningful learning. Even though difficult topics may come up in her classes, she creates a supportive learning environment in which everyone's views are respected. Dr. Fortune's passion for teaching makes learning fun and rewarding. She is truly one in a million.

Kathleen Fortune is an amazing professor!! she is my favorite psychology professor. Her lectures are entertaining. Her assignments are straightforward. Her exams are all multiple-choice. They are mainly based on her lecture material but also the textbook and some of the videos. She does discussion forums which can help you boost your grade!

She talks a bit fast but is able to teach very well. She's funny and honest and makes class memorable

She's kind of biased with students that participate I wont lie and expects participation in her lectures. But she's a very intelligent professor and gives a comprehensive answer whenever you need to clarify a few things. Other than that, shes a fine professor. Her test questions are p amusing tbh. Textbook isn't required but she does recommend it.

Didn't even use textbook even once. Her slides are long but just study those and you'll be fine. Easy tests tbh you can get easy 75's on them and no final.

The only reason I am sad about graduating is that I won't have another opportunity to take a class with her. The way she teaches and interacts in class is unlike any other. Dr. Fortune, if you are reading this, thank you for caring, for your exceptional teaching, and for making us think in ways we never would have otherwise.

Prof. Fortune was soooo understanding and considerate when it came to workload and its difficulty. She had the course and lectures tailored to help students really learn. There are quite a few things to help boost your mark. This is my second time taking the course and TRUST ME she is one of the best to have.

It was nice - I mean as first year course, it really diluted all the tensions of other courses. If you go through her lectures, at least, 2 weeks before midterms, you will actually do good.

Amazing prof, hilarious, caring and amazing at teaching the subject. Even in 3hr lectures I was able to stay engaged, tests are very fair and on the material taught (no tricks), but assignments can be a little a hit or miss on the grading (depends on ta)

Kathleen is by far my favourite professor at this school. As long as you put in the work, you will be successful in any of her classes. Test/exam questions are relevant and straight to the point and are even easy to guess if you didn't study specific material. I would recommend her as a prof to any person, she is the best.

You can tell she really cares about the content and the students in the class. Attend the lectures as exam questions are based on student interactions that happen during the lecture. She also goes through slides quickly which is much appreciated and bolds certain points to show they are important. She provides study guides that are pretty accurate

She is probably the best professor I've ever had. She is friendly and awesome in lectures. She explains everything so well and makes everything easy to understand. If you put in at least some effort, you will do well. Approach her in the lecture, she is very kind.

Fortune was a great professor! Her lectures are clear and she does a good job of trying to make them interesting. We only had 2 assignments and 4 tests for a full year course, all of which were easy-fair level. The other great thing is that you just need to study her slideshows, I never touched the textbook and did very well! Would recommend.

What a kooky field psychology is. I swear if it wasn't for my other courses that actually teach you some real skill I would have been out at sea with no boat. Psychology is such a pseudoscience. I have brain rot. But Kathleen is still a great prof. I doubt there are any jobs in this field that are really of any value. Applause to Kathleen though!

Amazing prof! Knowledgable, enthusiastic, and rly cares about her students succeeding. She provides clear grading criteria for assignments, exam review sheet with topics to focus on, and a super fair course breakdown. 2 assignments, 2 tests, and 5 discussion forums throughout the term. Also recorded lectures which helped tremendously with studying.

took her last year, still the best prof. i've had to date. lectures are engaging and she's funny too. just show up and listen and you can do well. content heavy but not difficult stuff to understand, she explains things simply and very well. i got by pretty good without the textbook. amazing prof!
