Easy and straight forward. Just do the little work there is!
As long as you go to class and get the notes she will give you all the answers to the test the day before. She does take attendence.
really easy, not too much dancing
this class is really easy if you take the time to study before the tests. relatively no homework except for one dance critique and only 3 exams. i would definitly recommend her. dance days are fun!
It's not that hard, but she sucks. Just make sure you do the paper right or you'll lose a lot of points.
Very good. I'm not much of a dancer, but I understand everything in class. Easy notes, not required reading. Actually dance about 7 times- easy and not put on the spot. Take this class.
Lectures are well-organized and she gives you the answers to all the test the class before it.
Easiest class ever! Everything on the tests is on the review sheet. Impossible to do badly!
I thought she was kind of snooty and full of herself, but the class is pretty easy. This is definately a class you need to take with friends, preferably ones of the opposite sex.
her class was so much fun, I really had a blast! got to experiment with a variety of different dances and her exams were easy. I agree, its hard to do bad in her class!
This class sucks ass. It's easy, but man, totally sucks. Going at 7:45am was comparable to eating 500 cucumbers in one day. Cucumbers just aren't that good. Bored to death. Only danced 3 times. :(
Not challenging at all.
Not a bad class at all- take notes, watch film clips, do a few dance days- she reviews all test material before the tests, you have one big paper, but you can correct it to get an A- attendance counts, but you can miss 2 classes and still get an A- its what an apprec. should be!
Easy class if you go to it and do the study guides, danced a lot of the days probably 6 or 7 times, very fun
seems to be bitter that dance apprec is in the ess department and not the arts. class is easy but she is just weird herself.
Gorman is a good teacher. Lectures are boring, but there is really no other way to give the material. Tests for me were challenging, but for most others, it is not bad. I think I just struggle with the dumb stuff. Take her, she is nice and helpful.
You get to watch lots of really cool dance videos that make you want to dance. Plus, the tests are pretty easy if you just study for a bit.
This class is a lot of fun. The tests are super easy, even if you don't study for them. I would recommend taking this class with a friend.
This class is pretty easy. If you put a little bit of work into studying for her tests it can be incredibly easy. We got out of class early almost half of the time and we watched a ton of videos (most of which were rather humerous). I would recommend taking this class to anyone that needs to fill a gen-ed requirement.
Easy class, but you do have to put in a little time studying for the tests-their kinda picky. She gives you a review sheet and goes over all of the answers, but make sure you know the question both ways. On the review sheet she may ask you what a dancer did, but on the test she may list the things a dancer did and ask you to name the dancer.
Easy class. You have to take apprech classes, so if you want an easy A take this. Lectures get a little boaring, but you get out of class 25 minutes earily every day and you don't have to do a thing until exam time
Grades on attendance. Three tests. Memorize the study guides and you will do well. The only bad thing is you have to go to one dance performance and critique it and you sometimes have to dance in class (unless you are into that).
Really easy class, but I ****ed up by thinking I didn't have to study for the tests. She's a good teacher. Too large classes to get personal.
Super easy class. 3 tests that you get a study guide for with every answer. 1 performance critique (3 pgs long). That's the only hard part of the class, make sure your critique is 3 pgs or you will get a "D" on it. Final (test 3) not comprehensive, and Gorman is a really nice lady. I really enjoyed this class!
Easy class except for the grading on attendance. For a 2 credit apreach class this sucks, cus i never went but aced all the test since her reviews go over every question on the exam
gorman is a really good teacher and lets you know everything that is going to be on the test. if you like to dance it is a fun class, i really enjoyed it. you have to write a 3 page paper on a dance critique, but its not too bad, she grades pretty easily. i would highly recommend
The dancing is so much fun.. learn all types of dance easy tests.. one outside critique.. extra credit offered
Dancing is a little akward, but bearable. Show up and she will cover EVERYTHING that she will ask on the test. Do a decent job on your critique and with a re-do and ex. cred review, you will def. get an A!
Nice lady. Pretty easy...three multiple-choice unit exams, and one paper to write. I just wish we could have danced more.
Easy. Three tests straight from notes. Can miss up to three classes without grade being affected... One paper that you can BS through as long as your spelling and grammar are legit.
she was a great teacher...easy class...only 3 multiple choice tests and she tells you exactly what to study...the dancing was fun
Dancing was fun!!! 3 multiple choice tests that are easy if you show up for the review. She goes over pretty much every question on the test. The paper is easy and you can BS your way through it. She is really into what she teaches and is willinging to help if needed. Take her for an easy A!
Graded on attendance, a dance review paper on a show that you must watch outside of class, and a few tests. Pretty easy class, she usually lets the class out 15-20 min. early every day. Comes off as intimidating, but when you talk to her she is really nice. Lectures(most days) are boring, but the dancing was always fun/funny. No shoes in class!
Show up. Dances are fun. One performance you have to go to..a lot easier to find a performance in spring. Take before Healy because you don't have to make up your own dance and perform it. Can earn up to 40 points extra credit. Easy exams.
Gorman is pretty easy. She is a nice teacher and everything.
Very easy class. Lectures and dancing. She always lets class out early. Tests are rediculously easy.
Kathleen Gorman is the best. Take her if you can! We had a lot of cancellations this semester, but regardless exams were to the point but a little tricky, gives exact study guides, knows this is a gen ed and doesn't push people to dance their hearts out. Must attend one dance performance and can earn extra credit. Takes attendance every day.
Attendence is taken every day. 3 page papers from a performance are a joke. 1/2 the paper is BS because there is about a page of info to write on. Only 1/2 of the study guide is used on the test, and some of what is on it isn't on the test. Cancels class way too much(about a month total), but she was sick for some of them so thoes are okay.
Easy Class. Kinda boring, but the dance days (6 or 7 days) are fun.
Really easy class. Lecture boring but dance days are really fun.
Very easy. The dance days were really fun. Tests were pretty easy, everything comes right from the study guide that she gives out. It was my favorite class of my semester. :)
Overall a pretty easy class. Lectures are boring, dance days are pretty awkward. Beware-she will call you out & make you feel extremely embarrassed if you mess up during the dance days. You can skip 2 classes& still get full points for attendance. Takes attendance every day. Must attend one performance & write a paper-easy stuff. XC possible
Class is pretty boring & attendance is mandatory. You can only miss 2 times but she's very understanding of personal issues. Dance days were not that fun.. but weren't hard. Gives you all the information the class before a test. Fairly easy but not very interesting.
Very easy class, just what an apprec. class should be! Lectures are super boring but you get out early almost every time. She goes over every answer on the test the class before the test. Dance days are kind of fun, but sometimes awkward.
She lectures about only things you need to know for the test, class was cancelled twice during the semester, only 1 out of class assignment, dance days are interesting and easy. you actually get to try what you are learning, review days you go over exactly what is on the test the following class period. would definitely recommend this class.
I had dance appreciation with her, and it wasn't too hard. She is very nice if you get to know her, but isn't extremely approachable. She is very clear and straightforward with what you will need to know for tests. Go to all the review sessions and study notes and you will do fine!
Had her for dance appreciation-great teacher! Tests are super easy as long as you take good notes and pay attention when she goes over the study guide. Funny lady, I really enjoyed her class. Three exams, one paper. Super easy, she understands it's an apprec class so she isn't a strict grader. Take her!
Great teacher, attendance mandatory, usually get out of class early, very clear, writes important notes on white board, and goes over everything on the test/study guides on the exam review days. Exams and dance critiques are an easy 100 if you study.
I had Kathleen Gorman for dance appreciation. Overall, I enjoyed the class. The dance days were a little weird, but if you have fun with them they can be enjoyable! She gives out a study guide before each test and goes over all of the answers. Most days a majority of lecture was spend watching videos. Really easy class, I would recommend it!
She is very passionate about teaching dance appreciation. She will jump right into the lectures and will not get off track. she will get you out of class early quite often. She is organized and you will know the expectations from day one. This class is easy to stay on track.
I'm a dancer so I was excited to take this class. She definitely made the class enjoyable for a 7:45 class. When we dance in the class its kind of awkward, but once your class gets into it, its lots of fun. You have a textbook, but you really don't need it, she goes over everything in class. One of my easiest classes by far. Highly recommend her!
SHE"S GREAT. Take her! even if you have no interest whatsoever in dance. She makes it fun and it is definitely a gen ed course. There are three exams and one paper. The third exam is the final. She tells you EXACTLY what is going to be on the tests.
She tells you exactly what's on the test the class before review, it's very helpful. Attendance is mandatory, but her lectures are interesting and she shows a lot of videos. The dancing is as fun as you make it. I really enjoyed this class.
Very easy class. Go to every class, write your critique, and glance over the review sheet 10 minutes before an exam and you're guaranteed an A. Watch videos, get up and dance, much better than a normal lecture class.
She is a great professor :D The best professor, she is very helpful and sweet. She does whatever it takes to help you. Super friendly and I recommend this class :D
Easy class. She offers extra credit and is an easy grader. Exams are easy if you look over the study guide. Easy A.
I had Kathy for Dance Appreciation and liked her. She's a little intimidating but once you get comfortable, she's a lovely person. She genuinely cares about dance and has a lot of information to offer. Tests are a little tough for what you'd expect from an apprec class but the dance days are fun!
It's an aprec class. Of course it's not going to be that hard. She presents the information in a way that's easy to understand, and before each test she lays out everything you need to know to pass the test. Her grading scale makes it seem even easier to get an A, but it is somewhat deceiving. You need it that low to pass.
Kathy is big into participation, you can only miss so many dance classes before your grade starts to drop. Otherwise if you study at all for the tests you will be fine, not an easy A, but you can get one with a little work. Also good extra credit opportunity if you fee like going to dance performances and writing the papers.
Kathy is great! The day before the exams (there's only 3 including the final), she literally gives you the answers in class. The tests are straight forward, just make sure you know all the people and what not. The dance days are fun (there's like 6 days of it) but if you're not a fan of that kind of stuff, don't take it. Easy grader and an easy A.
Show up to class every day, even if you don't take notes and you will pass. She gives you the answers before each exam and you memorize those. Participation in dance days (6 of them) are important to get a good grade. Boring lectures but Extremely Easy A.
Attendance is mandatory but easy A! She gives all of the answers to the test the class before so all you have to do is study that. She is very helpful if you have any questions and the dance days can actually be fun. Definitely recommend this class
I dread going to this class. She doesn't put any effort into making it interesting unless you really care about dance. She says attendance is mandatory, but gives you all the answers to a test on the review day. The dance options for the review paper cost a lot of money, an unreasonable amount for college students and most of them aren't in lax
If you have to take a fine arts class avoid taking this one. Lectures are boring, have never been as disinterested in a class as this one. She makes attendance mandatory even though she gives all the answers on review day. You have to go to an actual dance performance and they are expensive.
So the class may not be the most interesting on lecture days, but attendance is part of your grade so it's SUPER easy to get extra points. Many of the dance performances are on campus and are less than $5 so just going to 1 isn't a huge deal. She always gives the answers the day before the test, plus an 86% is an A. She really WANTS you to get an A
Kathy teaches a gened class that no one wants to take, and she doesn't do anything to make it even a little bit interesting. She just reads dance history to us and expects us to know too many details for the exams. She does do a review day where she gives you the answers to most of the exam questions, but I still found it hard to get an A.
Loved this class, very little dancing is actually required. Mostly just learning about it.
The class isn't bad. There is one dance critique paper that is lengthy, but she lets you re-do it and any extra ones are worth extra credit. Her tests are detailed but she goes through the study guide with you the day before. Be ready to dance!
Prof. Gorman isnt a bad choice, but not the best for a gen ed class. She only gives 5 non extra credit grades which include 3 moderately difficult exams, a 4 page paper dance review, and attendance. She lectures a lot, but lets us out early a lot of the times. Very nice person, but I dont really recommend.
Her exams are so annoying. You basically need to know the study guide word for word. Don't expect to be able to wing it on an exam. She grades the papers hard but you can make corrections. She does't realize nobody cares about the class and makes it harder than it needs to be.
Professor Gorman is a generally good professor. There isn't a lot of effort on her part to get to know her students, but she seems like a nice person. Her classes aren't difficult, just make sure you don't miss them!
This class consists of 3 tests, and a long paper on a live dance performance you have to go view. The tests are difficult, and you need to study for them, however she goes over the study guide with the class and that is pretty much what's on the test. She grades the dance critique paper hard, but you can re-do it once. Overall, the class is okay.
This class was the easiest class I ever took. Only three unit exams that she basically gives the answers to. Downsides are you do have to write a paper critiquing a dance performance and you can only skip two classes to not be docked points. We got out like 20 minutes early almost every day. Super easy gen ed class. Activity days are not very fun.
This professor is very passionate about the arts and dance, but her tests are much more difficult than I believe an introductory class should be. the dancing days were fun but the lectures were very boring and uninteresting.
Her humor made lectures more enjoyable. Pretty easy and fun A
You can tell she's really into the subject, but she's a tough grader. She's also fairly strict about attendance. Her class has more dancing than most other dance apprec teachers, so take her if you're interested in that. You also have to attend one dance performance and write a 4 page critique on it. You can earn up to 40 points extra credit.
lectures are extremely boring and dance days are definitely not something i look forward to, but this class is one you should definitely take with her. she grades your critique paper very easily and offers a ton of extra credit if you write another critique. exams are actually pretty tough, but if you study you will most definitely be ok.
She's the one that choreographs the dances for productions so she is very knowledgable and pounds a lot of dance history at you that you most likely do not care about. There are 3 exams that have detailed questions. You have a day full of dancing after each different topic. Takes attendance. Have to write 4 pages on a dance performance. Hated it
The only grades you get are attendace, exams, and the 4 page dance critique you have to wrtie. You can write an extra paper for extra credit. Lectures are very boring and make you want to fall asleep. She is very into dance and expects you to be as well. She does give you a great study guide, but exams are pretty hard. Make sure you study a lot!
Professor Gorman expects a lot out of her students, and her exams require extensive preparation outside of class. Lectures are very dull and uninteresting, but attendance is mandatory so it's necessary to go if you hope to do well in the course.
Fine professor, easy A. Had to study for exams a couple days in advance and did just fine. Attendance is graded, only can miss 2 classes and get full points.
This class was the only class that I didn't receive an A in this semester. In order to pass the tests, memorize the study guide and take notes during the dance you watch, in order to remember what to write your paper on. Your grade is based on 3 exams, 1 dance critique paper, and attendance.
This class was somewhat difficult. It's essential to attend the lectures because she doesn't post power points online. I'd recommend taking notes with a laptop because she moves/talks very fast. Her exams are extremely detailed so just memorize everything discussed in the lectures.
You must attend class to do well and take lots of notes during lecture. If you memorize the study guide you should do just fine on the exams. You don't need to read the textbook. It was overall a pretty easy, fun class.
Honestly, this class is kind of a grind for being an "appreciation" class. Attendance is mandatory and you should probably actually put some effort into the exams. She also makes you critique a dance performance and write 6 pages about it... She really needs to realize not everyone cares about dance as much as she does. Shes also lazy about class..
Do not take this Professor. She sees dance as way more important than it actually is in the average students lives and is extremely rigid and not understanding of students lives outside of class at all. SHE WONT TAKE A DOCTORS NOTE AS AN EXCUSE TO MISS CLASS. You have to write a ridiculously long paper on a live dance performance and dance in class
She gives no mercy!
Gives the boringest lectures, you would be better off taking any other appreciation class. Also left me .5 points short of a B even though I met all the requirements...
I had her during covid and she did not hold a single lecture or anything except one review lecture before each test. Half of them she didnt have the sheet in front of her so she said the stuff is on canvas. She takes like a month to respond to emails. Tests are super specific. It felt like she was on vacation the whole time. Avoid if you can!!
Professor Gorman didn't teach me anything. She held 3 live sessions the entire semester and it was literally just her reading the stuff that was already posted on canvas. The exams are completely based off the study guide so that makes the class easy, but just a waste of time overall. Also very confusing layout/schedule due to online class.
dont know much about her personality but there were only 3 exams the whole semester. she gave study guides for all three which were easily filled out by the information on canvas. one paper due, wrote 8 pages in a 5 min long dance. ended the semester with a 98%.
I have taken about 5 classes from Kathy and she is awesome. I love how she is so nonchalant about life, meaning she is very easy going and kind. She has a big heart and loves to joke around with her students. I wish she wasn't retiring.
Dont take the class asynchronous you will only receive any information the day before a test, you have 3 tests and 2 very long critiques to write for her class. Her tests suck, you will receive less than 30 seconds to answer a question and can't go back once you answer it.
Not good
I had to take this class online, which already made things a bit difficult. What really made this class suck was the fact you only got 27 min to finish a 100 problem test where you could not go back and review your answers (#1 test taking strategy, forget her). I suggest not taking any of her classes unless you like cruel and unusual punishment.
Whatever you do, do NOT take any classes with this professor. She is the legit worst professor. She gives you 36 minutes to take a 50 question test. She is super inconsiderate and doesn't listen to students questions or concerns. Her directions are confusing and she is rude to students when they ask a simple question. Never again.
Not a very nice professor at all.
Not a good professor or a nice person at all. Sent many passive aggressive, rude announcements through Canvas when students asked for help, unorganized, and grades were based on 3 exams with 50 questions and only 36 minutes to finish and 2 5 page long dance critiques. Critiques were returned if you didn't write to the bottom of the 5th page.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! She does not understand tiny mistakes and will give you a zero on your assignments. Take another professor. The canvas is sloppy and the course information is not explained well or organized. I cannot stress this enough TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!!!!!
All year during covid, she never taught one class and expected you to figure everything out by yourself. She grades extremely hard and when I was told to submit 2, 6 page papers at the end of the year, I was never informed that they couldnt be the same genre, so I received a 0% dropping my grade from a 92 to 76 with one day left of class. Awful.
