She has clear slides everyday. three simple projects over the semester, a 10 question MC quiz with each test (50 MC). Shes really sweet even if she may not have the answer to every question you ask her. Take her she's good!
I feel like the only way to sum her up is: "Eh..." She's not bad, but there has to be someone better. Find them and take their class instead.
VERY SWEET lady! Test are not too hard at beginning but progressive get worse. GO TO CLASS, if you plan on taking her.... there are pop quizzes! She shows many slides so notes are easy to take. However she does not seem interested in biology and sometimes seems confused so it doesnt make you interested in the class!!
She told us she has more understanding of another biological class, and I believe her. She does not know what she is teaching and just uses slides. Her inability to answer questions makes you wonder whether it is fair for her to test you on material she doesn't know herself.
Horrible class, doesnt take attendance and gives power point presentations pretty much reading the book for you.
Best Biology teacher I've ever had. Simple class, if you go to class and read the material you will get an A. Tests are straight forward but there are pop quizes. Super nice, gives 3 assignments that bring up grade if you do them. If you make an A you can exempt exam! Super nice, good class.
She's a good teacher. Notes from powerpoint are basically the test so study those. Doesn't take attendance and gives 3 pop quizzes and 3 assignments. You can kinda guess when the pop quizzes will be. The only bad thing about her is she skimmed thru info at the end of the semester and she doesn't give back tests. Overall, class was pretty easy.
Dont be fooled she is an extremely nice lady, but last two tests are HELL! If you take her STUDY ALOT! She has a cumlative final. She does make very nice slide shows for the notes! No attendance policy! She also gives three assignments that are a breeze to help bring up your grades from the MISERABLY HARD tests. Nice, but not the best teacher.
Relatively easy class. No homework or presentations, just 3 easy assignments, 3 tests, and 3 pop quizzes. If you show up for class, the test basically comes from the powerpoint presenation, don't bother to listen to the lecture. I also read the text for clarification and made an A.
shes sooooo nice!!:) the test are very hard! :)
She is soooo nice! No attendance policy, but if you show up, it definetly pays off. I went to every class and took all of the notes and exempted the final. Tests are pretty easy, I made a 100 on the last 2 tests. Also, 3 assignments, but they're easy. If you get a chance, take her!!! She's GREAT!
Mrs. Janech is a really nice lady. She drops the lowest test grade explains information in a pretty clear way. Her first two tests are pretty straight forward, but after that, if you don't study you are screwed. Her second two tests are really hard! Also, she gives really tough pop quizzes, but gives easy homework assign. to bring up your grade.
Janech is a very nice woman. I am in her special teaching class, the bio department picks 1 or 2 classes to try to teach different methods to each semester. my class is a midterm and final... which basically to do well you need to study your notes. Attendance policy strickt only 2 absences but the class is a piece of cake! and lots of group work.
you definately want to take Janech. No attendance policy, teaches directly from power point, lets us out atleast 20 minutes early every day, tests can be tough...even though she says you wont be tested from the book - YOU ARE! study from class notes and the book. Overall, she's a really cool teacher. LOVES BIOLOGY! Awesome.
Mrs. Janech is an awesome teacher! She makes biology actually interesting. her lectures aren't boring at all and she sometimes uses slides with videos which makes it really easy to learn. tests are mainly on notes but it helps to read the book. attendance isnt required but recommended. assignments are fairly easy, tests difficult if you don't study
I had Janech for Bio 101 and made sure I had her for 102. She is a great professor and I love the power points, they make for easy note taking! She drops the lowest test grade out of 4, has three assignments, and a cummulative final. She cares about how her students do in the class. I highly recommend her.
She is so nice! Attendance is not mandatory, but you should go to her class. She makes bio applicable to us and things in the Charleston area. If you talk to her about missing a class, shes really cool about it.
This was most confusing class I have been in. She seemed uninformed about a lot of the material, and the tests were difficult. Very nice lady, but I would not take another of her classes.
I thought she was a pretty good teacher, she based her classes off of powerpoints and tests off of study guides. I think she could've been a bit more elaborate, but overall she's a good teacher, great person too!
Def. take her if you can. Really nice, willing to help with anything. Tests are easy if you know the notes and read the material from the book. Online textbook quizes help alot w/ the studyig
Very sweet lady. extremely hard material... don't take unless you are ready to study your butt off!!
if you want to pass the tests you NEED to read the text. tests are tricky but if you study A LOT you'll do fine.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! Power points are very helpful, she adds helpful info. as well as study tricks and tips along the way. The class is hard only because of the huge amount of material covered. Gives helpful study guides. Very helpful; anytime I had a question she answered it clearly and helpfully. GO TO SI!!!
I loved this class. She is very nice and very willing to help you. The tests are challenging but not at all impossible. She includes extra credit on all her tests. The lowest test grade I got was a 92. You do need to read the text for this class. Overall I would definitely suggest her!
She is a very nice lady, doesnt take attendance but does give pop quizzes so you should go. She gives 4 tests and one assignment due for each test 1-3. You can be exempt from the final if you have a 92 or better. Its not that bad, I would recommend her!
Janech was a great teacher, and as long as you aren't a lazy person and are willing to do your work then you will most likely make an A. She's really sweet and cares a lot about her students
Awesome teacher! Very firm when it comes to deadlines and sometimes gives pop quizzes - so show up for class. Slackers beware.
She is a good teacher, teaches straight form power points and doesn't require attendance. Tests come straight from notes though and from the textbook. Treated my class like we were a bunch of 5th graders...and has very limited knowledge. Only knows what she teaches, don't ask her questions cause she won't know.
Exceptionally caring. Her class is everything you would expect out of Bio101, not really extraordinary. Pretty simple, had honors bio in high school and never cracked a book to study and did very well in the course (mildly passionate about bio though). Recommend her to anyone who has to take bio, VERY do-able course for any student.
such a good teacher and pretty easy. all notes are very focused and presented through powerpoint. tests are STRAIGHT from notes and study guide, if you know the study guide its an easy A. doesnt do attendance but you will be lost if you dont show up. drops lowest test grade, the 2 assignments are easy As. do whatever you can to get her
Great teacher that truly cares about her students doing well! She seems to understand that if you're taking 101 you have no intention of being a bio major and makes everything straightforward. Only tells you what you absolutely need to know and spells it out for you before tests. Easy A if you took high school bio!
I loved her! I got an A in 101 and went on to 112 because she sparked in interest in Bio for me! Follows the book well. Tests are great, because everything is in her notes, so study and you will get an A! Wish I could have taken her again!! She keeps the subject interesting by relating biology to the "real world".
Prof. Janech is awesome. She's extremely helpful and will research a question she doesn't have an answer to in class, at night, just to let you know. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you go you will have no problem passing the tests. Real nice, gives pop quizzes. Take her.
She is soo nice and she gives you a study guide. Pop quizzes, but not often. Does powerpoints, talks, and you take notes every single class period. She is great! I def. recommend her!
Very interresting, easy to inderstand and always offered more examples drawn in class for us.
Prof. Janech is amazing! Her teaching was crystal clear and for the most part if you came to class, took notes, and read then the tests were fairly easy. Don't skip because she does have surprise quizzes usually half way between the tests! Take her if you want a rewarding class with a very helpful teacher!
Ms. Janech is great! I was worried about bio because I'm not a science person but her lecture makes it really easy to understand. Tests are comprehensive and difficult but she posts detailed study guides and always has EC. Take her, she's friendly and fun!
Janech is a great teacher. I hate science classes but she kept it interesting. there are pop quizzes along the way instead of attendance. she gives really good study guides for the tests which are way helpful! i loved her class and would def recommend her class.
Professor Janech is AMAZING! Very good notes, 3 EASY projects, POP quizzes so make sure YOU GO TO CLASS! tests are good if you study...i mean its biology..its not gunna be a piece of cake! She such a sweetheart very understanding. My roommate slept through the exam and she still let her take it! Shes by far the best 111 and 112 teacher! AWESOME!!!!
She is THE BEST! Super nice and so helpful! Her tests are easy, but you can get an A if you study! She explains things so well and wants her students to make good grades. 3 easy grade-booster projects and pop quizzes usually a few classes before the next test. TAKE HER!! TAKE HER!! TAKE HER!!
AMAZING professor. She teaches thoroughly and in such a way that it is easy to understand the material. In order to do well class attendance is mandatory but she makes the material interesting and gives "brain breaks". I had her at 8am but it wasn't a class I dreaded going to.
She is an absolutely AMAZING professor, he class is so interesting and she makes everything clear and simple. She goes by her notes, so as long as you come to every class and take notes, you'll do great!
Awesome professor! Best bio professor by far! Its possible to get an A if you Study the guides she post for each test. She is super nice and always willing to help! 3 Assignments that help boost grade as well!
She's a great person, but her class was extremely hard for me for some reason. I stressed myself out so much before every test because i felt i had way too much info to absorb. Her powerpoints were also a bit confusing because they jumped around alot.
She is such a great person. I found her class hard, but I also don't think I put as much work in as was needed. She does give pop quizzes so you have to study your notes daily. She gives study guides and provides extra credit. She gives brain breaks during class where she shows pics of her daughter Molly. I would highly recommend taking her class!
Professor Janech is a fun teacher despite having her class meeting at 8am... I highly recommend her, AND recommend attending all of her classes even though attendance is not mandatory. She gives pop quizzes about once every three to four classes.
Great professor! She always does power point notes for lecture. Easy tests as long as you study notes; i also recommend always reading the chapters in the text to understand the material clearly. She gives pop quizzes about once a month so keep up with material. Very nice and easy to talk to!
Review your notes after and before every class. POP quizzes are hard. Other than that she is super nice abd helpful. She gives study guides for the exams and if you study your notes and do the study guide you will get an A on the tests. If you have an A you can exempt the final.
she was pretty good but sometimes her notes were hard to follow. the pop quizzes are pretty hard but the tests are not too bad if you study. she gives easy extra credit
Professor Janech is a very nice lady! She does not require attendance, but you will miss out on a lot if you do miss! Quizzes are given once before each test, so keep up with the material! Her tests are pretty easy, if you study for them!
really nice...has some random questions on tests you need to read book to know. (she tells you subtlety what pages to read 'to learn more' for the random ?'s) going to every class makes exams way easier. missing class...has some questions you wouldn't know w/out lecture. 4 tests and 1 random quiz b4 each test
Amazing prof! If you wish to learn biology, take her! She is very hard working and well organized. Her teaching style promotes learning. Best prof I have had
4 tests (%55 total) 4 POP QUIZEZ (%20 total) 1 assignment (easy %10) and final is %15. Not a hard class, but pop quizzes are so annoying.
Great Professor! Definitely recommend! Her lectures are based on power points, majority of test information comes from the notes. Reading the textbook is helpful to guarantee an A. Test were easy if you studied and final was not bad. Attendance is not mandatory but only downfall is she does give 1 pop quiz per test. TAKE!
Professor Janech just seemed confused. Her questions were application but they were not straight forward. She would TRY to trick you, especially in the pop quizzes. I recommend reading the book, it's very helpful for your understanding of the material. She wasn't very helpful when I went to her office hours. She doesn't know how to teach well.
She is great person, but the study guides do not correspond directly to the tests. Also, review more from the book than her notes!
Mrs. Janech is an awesome teacher and will help you when you need it. Her tests are hard and kind of tricky. I loved her and enjoyed her class.
Her tests are straight from the notes and book and never as in depth as she makes it seem it will be. If you take good notes and study the class is a breeze
She was a great teacher and was is a super nice lady. Her study guides don't correspond with her tests so they are basically pointless. A lot of her test questions come from the book so make sure you read the chapter that is being discussed. Go to her office hours anytime you need help. Sometimes seems confused about the material but a decent class
Class was kinda boring bc it was always the same thing. the study guide has nothing to do with the test. the test are 50 multiple choice questions with one essay which you make up a question and answer it. the test were mainly your notes and alot from the book! overall an easy class
Overall the course was easy and received an A. Janech is not very clear in explaining things but does provide a study guide that is somewhat helpful. Exams are multiple choice with one essay question, so fairly easy but do recommend reading the book.
Very nice lady but doesn't make any sense in her lecture. Doesn't allow you to use a computer to take notes and talks faster than anyone can write. Her slides are pointless because they don't provide any relevant information. The tests don't relate with the study guide at all. wouldnt recommend this professor if you want to honestly understand bio
There was a lot of material on her test and quizzes she didn't even cover. You basically have to teach yourself from the book. There is no homework so you don't get homework grades. Your grades are just from quizzes and test. So if you do bad on those your grade won't come out good.
Lectures are pretty boring because you copy notes from the powerpoint. There are 4 test and 4 pop quizzes. There is always 1 quiz before each test and she drops the lowest quiz grade if you are there for all 4. One simple project that is a grade booster. If you study and go to SI, this class isn't too hard. Very nice person, I would take her again.
Professor Janech is a really nice lady, but she is not the best teacher. I would clearly memorize everything on the study guide and then none of it would actually be on the exam which was very frustrating, to say the least, considering her study guides were 8000 years long. Tests are bizarrely worded and the only thing she does for grades
Tests and quizzes, Im still trying to figure out where they come from. Studying for hours using notes taken in class or the study guides she gives are not beneficial at all. She teaches in a way in which students can understand but tries to test on an expert level. Unfortunately the gap between the two has no bridge.
Her powerpoint lectures did not correspond to her tests or quizzes at all. Basically have to teach yourself by reading the text book.
She's a really nice person but an unfortunately bad professor. Her in class power points barely go into any depth of information and if you ask her questions about information that relates to her power points but isn't on them she doesn't know the answers. READ THE BOOK to pass exams. Class is passable just not especially helpful.
I think that Janech tries to be a good teacher, but she's just not. Her powerpoints are very confusing and they do not correspond to the tests at all. She throws a lot of info at you at once and expects you to retain it all on the spot. She gives pop quizzes before every test. She is not clear at all. I was lost the entire semester.
She is always ready to help you, but you have to go to her. The information on the test has always been mentioned at least once. Her exact test is on quizlet so to study all you really need to do is look at that. Attendance isn't mandatory but she has pop quizzes so you really don't want to miss. Overall she's great.
Janech was so nice and kind at first but then she got to be less and less helpful. Her lectures are all over the place and never had any idea what to study. One day she came in 45 min late and STILL gave us an exam. Stay away if you don't want a lazy professor. Heard she was teaching 112 and i was SURE not to take her again.
One of the best professors I have ever had. She will not be an easy A, and will actually expect you to learn on your own time which apparently makes her a bad professor to some. She is helpful and knowledgable and her notes are all I needed to study to get an A in the class. She gives you all of the tools you need to pass.
One of the most helpful teachers I've had. She covers a lot of material, but she makes it all easier to understand. She wants to make sure everyone understands before moving on. She allows you to fix questions on exams for extra credit, and she also assigns projects to boost your grade. Also her "pop" quizzes are always a week before the exam.
Professor Janech is an exceptional professor. I honestly did not have the strongest back ground in 111, so I was a bit lost, but I caught up and did especially well in her class without having to go to SI. Gives study guides for tests, quizzes are online, and has next to no homework. Plus, her brain breaks are the best!
She does not know the material more than what is on her slides. She reads off of her slides and will even go back to things that she forgot to say on a slide. Her tests are easy. I'm in 111 but it feels like 101. She also has no structure; bouncing all over the curriculum and never consistently in the same chapter. Even on any day she will have random chapters
Prof. Janech is a real sweet teacher. Her class can get boring at times, but she has Brain Breaks which makes up for it! Very knowledgeable and open to all questions. Tests are difficult, not gonna lie. Your textbook is your best friend. Go to SI. The study guides are JUST A GUIDE, remember that. Totally would recommend.
Prof. janech is super sweet and caring, she understands things happen. her lectures didn't help me what so ever. read the book and you'll pass and do fine.
Cute and interesting at first but very quickly you'll realise that she's either reading directly off of or is just rewording what the powerpoint says. They're so vague and often she has to say "the current edition of your textbook may say something else" Never takes attendance, study guides NOT applicable. Just read the textbook for eveything
She doesn't take attendance but if you don't go to class you won't know what info to focus on for tests. 4 tests, final, 5 online quizzes, 2 assignments. I thought she did a better job at teaching plants and evolution than she did animals, but I'm partial to the former. She has you read some things in the book - don't skip that. It's usually tested
Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to be in class in order to pass the tests. All of her tests are based off what she teaches in class, and if you miss you have to get the notes from someone else since she doesn't post the powerpoint to OAKS. Only two projects and four tests throughout the semester, with tons of chances for extra credit.
Professor Janech is really sweet, she gets test grades back very quick, offers extra credit opportunities on every test during and after, and drops the lowest quiz grade. She skips around from chapter to chapter, but it works out somehow. Take her! There is no reason for failing the this class if you take it.
Professor Janech is one of the worst professors I have ever had. She cannot answer questions beyond the scope of her notes on the PowerPoint. She reads directly from her slides in her lectures. Her tests are appropriate but she doesn't teach the material on them well. Take another biology professor if possible.
Go to class, go to class, go to class. Definitely read the textbook (about 6 times) but she is one of those "the test can have things that I said that are not in your text" kind of professors. Sweet lady and will work with you if you give it your all.
She gives you study guides, and if you know everything on there you should get an A no problem. I took notes in class, but ultimately I just read the textbook to help me prepare for the test. She is really awesome, but do not rely on just lecture, just like in any other class.
I am not biology minded in the least and bio 101 left me feeling like I was really unprepared for bio 102 but she makes the material so easy to understand and breaks it down really well. come to class, take the notes, read the pages she tells you to read, fill out the study guides she provides even tho she doesn't collect them and you'll make an A.
Professor Janech is so nice! I took her two semesters in a row. Highly recommend! Honestly, class attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended since her exams are based off of what she covers in class! She gives online quizzes, one project, and four exams! If you study, her exams are not bad at all! You can definitely get an A!!
Really good professor. Not a lot of homework, but a lot of studying. Gives quizzes through Oaks. Tests are pretty hard. Requires lots and lots of studying. Flash cards will be your best friend.
Professor Janech was a really enjoyable teacher who understands and respects her students. Professor Janech really understands that her students are not all Bio majors and offers extra credit and help in order to help her students succeed. Would take again!
Professor Janech gives great lectures. Her way of explaining everything makes so much sense it made me love cellular biology which usually is not too popular. If you don't go to class you will miss the info - she won't post powerpoints online. Her tests were pretty easy for the most part. Final was super easy. Gives bonus questions on every test.
She is so nice and easy to learn from! She is willing to work with you and lets you correct your exam scores for extra credit. You can exempt the final if you have a soild A in the class. She gives you "breaks" during class to do whatever you want to do. Easy Bio 101 gen ed requirement. Final is online if you do not exempt it so shouldnt be hard.
Professor Janech is by far the best professor I've had since I've been at Cofc. I don't enjoy bio classes nor am I a bio major/ minor, but she made the class bearable. Her office hours could use some work, nonetheless she is a fine professor. Highly recommend her!
Ms Janech is a very caring prof. Take detailed notes, study really hard and you can get an A. She is passionate about the subjects and her tests are very detailed. I enjoyed this class
Prof. Janech is a very nice person and cares about her students, but her lectures are boring, slow, and all she does is verbally interpret diagrams/pictures/graphs/charts for her notes. She does not have any actual powerpoints with bullets of information, it really is just her talking through different diagrams every chapter.
She is a nice person but lectures can be hard to learn from. She shows pictures and then explains them, not putting down what she is saying in bullets or other ways, and it can be hard for some, like myself, to learn this way. She does usually give breaks during TR classes and has an extra credit question or two on the tests. Notes are not online.
Overall Janech was a solid professor. The lectures were kinda dull and the extra credit was nice. The essay parts of the test are usually points I never recieved as it requires you to understand something that was not tested on. She's a solid choice if you need a teacher for Biology.
Prof Janech is a very nice lady. However her class is very boring and may change your mind about being a biology major. This was by far the hardest science class I've ever taken. She only gives three exams, no homework, and one assignment so better study hard for those exams or else you're going to fail. Lectures were so boring! pick someone else!
Prof. Janech is an amazing professor. Her lectures are clear and she gives detailed study guides for every test. She doesn't make you read the book, but occasionally she will point out places in the book to read just to further clarify something she said in class. Tests are multiple choice and the final is online. If you put in the work she's great
Kathleen is such a sweet, caring soul. She respects and understands if youre having outside issues affecting your grades and will give you resources to improve. Her tests are tough, and require lots of studying from the textbook. However, by the end of the semester, all of the material will be engraved in your memory.
Lectures are always long, but she didn't make us stay for the whole 75 minutes. It's possible to exempt out of the final. Tests are easy as long as you pay attention and look at the study guide.
Lectures may be a little long and boring, but if you write her notes and do flashcards of the study guide, you're in good hands. She is an amazing teacher and not a strict grader.
Professor Janech wants so see you succeed in this class and does everything in her power to help you. Exams have a clear study guide, quizzes are taken online and 2 easy assignments. Lots of extra credit offered and option to be exempt from the final with a high enough grade. Highly recommended taking her!
Pr. Janech is a real gem. She wants you to succeed in her class and gives a lot of extra credits. Lectures are heavy and she doesn't post them online. If you understand the material, you can only do good in her class.
Professor Janech is a really nice person. She tries her best to teach a class of 70. I really appreciate how much time she puts into her students. She took only three days to grade tests of 100+ students. She dedicates even more of her time to grade test corrections which are not even necessary. I truly appreciate everything that she does for us.
Professor Janech is very clear about whats expected and required in the course and she's willing to help if you ask. There are 4 exams and 5 quizzes (online, timed 10 mins), and two assignments. She does offer extra credit and gives you the chance to fix 2 questions on your exams for credit. Go to class because lectures are not posted online.
Amazing teacher, she is so caring and will do anything to help you. Take notes and study and you will pass the class easy!
The only grades we got in this class were tests, quizzes, and one assignment. I hear that Professor Janech usually works well with students to fix their grades, but during the pandemic, she took away all extra credit assignments and corrections on tests. The class is pretty difficult, especially during a pandemic.
I took all Honors/AP classes in high school and was an A/B student, and this was by far the hardest class I've ever taken. I realize that this class is meant for medical majors and "weeding people out," but this is not the professor to be teaching this. We had 4 exams, a final, 4 quizzes, and 1 homework, so the class is very assessment heavy. :(
I took this professor bc she had great reviews. 4 test 4 quizzes 1 project. no extra credit and no curve. The powerpoints are all over the place. She has SG but they do not help. test are HARD. Its hard keeping ur grade up because she has no other grades. I would not recommend taking her during a pandemic if u want to pass. Its already hard enough.
Prof. Janech was an amazing professor and was really caring and always willing to help her students whenever they need it. However, the material itself is tough, so get ready to have to study a lot and take really good notes in order to do well on the exams.
Janech is one of the best profs at CofC. She is very accommodating and is really quick to respond to emails outside of class. There are not a lot of grades besides tests and quizzes, so be prepared to study and really know the material. She is overall a really caring professor and if you have a chance to take her you should!
Professor Janech is an excellent BIO Prof. Her notes can get confusing and disorganized yet if you read the textbook you should be good. The tests are detailed but she provides a study guide for each test. There are not a lot of points in the grade book so make sure you understand the material. Overall, if you work hard you will get an A.
Prof. Janech is a really sweet woman and shes great at keeping everyone in the loop. I really liked her as a person but I disliked her class. I have never gotten below an A in a bio class but I did with her. Its hard to teach during a pandemic but I dont think she ever got the hang of it. She teaches like we are 5 y.o. and tests like med student
I took Janech for bio 111 and then again for bio 112. She is a very sweet lady and wants her students to all succeed. She is easy to reach out to outside of class and is very organized. However, the material itself can be tough and the tests are usually challenging so be prepared to study and work hard in order to pass.
Professor Janech is an incredible Biology Professor. I had the pleasure of having her for both 111 and 112 last year, and I wouldn't have taken anybody else. Her PowerPoints are extremely clear and she gives study guides that are extremely helpful. I highly recommend taking her if you are considering Biology as a major.
Great professor and she really does care! She would be first choice for bio professor!
She gives out extra credit She is accessible and is always available to talk on email. She wants to get to know you and she's really sweet. She is test heavy she has a quiz for every module (asynchronous) and 4 tests plus a final it was a lot of work for sure
Test are a big part of your grade and are taken in person or lock down if you cant be there. She is a super sweet lady and is very accommodating and understanding. As someone who isn't a good test taker or has a hard time paying attention to long lectures, this class may be difficult but she is a really nice teacher
Very nice and caring, exams are exactly like the lecture. Not a lot of grades, but she offers some make-up questions on exams. She doesnt have a very in-depth knowledge of the material, so dont take her if you plan to have a bio-heavy course load but great for gen-ed.
I took her class online, and it was great for me. I could finish all the work for that week in one day! We also got to use notes on all our quizzes and exams. It was an easy class, and she was very approachable to email. She wanted to make sure we understood the material, and explained everything throughly.
Professor Janech was a great bio teacher! She was so caring but her lectures are long. There is hardly any work for this class so STUDY HARD for all 4 exams. She gave around 8 bonus points on her test which helps so much. Literally stick to your notes when studying and watch videos on stuff you do not comprehend. This is further than memorizing.
I love Professor Janech! She is great at simplifying concepts and is a very caring person. She answers emails extremely quickly and is readily available outside of class. She truly cares about all of her students (both inside and outside of the classroom). Her class is difficult if you don't study, but for the most part, tests are straightforward.
DO NOT MISS A LECTURE! She only had exams that were worth 60% of your grade and a quiz before each of them that were worth 10% and only one assignment that is worth 10% and graded at the end of the semester. You NEED to read that book. She is the sweetest most kindest lady but cumulative grade killed me. Thank god she did test corrections.
Study in advance! Not just before an exam because these tests are worth a large portion of your grade. Luckily, she offers test corrections but you'll only get four points back. I was able to understand most of the material thanks to her concept maps & diagrams. Be prepared for long lectures, this is biology so of course it would be challenging.
Forget every other review you have read about Janech for a second and listen to me. This woman is an absolute joy and there isn't enough space to write about how great she is. She is so accommodating of any situation if you reach out to her. TAKE HER. Her study guides are extremely helpful and she offers up to 4 points back on each exam.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! She is lecture heavy, but that is expected from a course for science majors. Yet, she makes it so doable...she even has brain breaks in the middle of lectures (music videos, etc). Her tests are 50 multiple choice, as well as short answers. Yet, all the exact information needed for these tests are on the PowerPoints!
Listen to her lectures, take good notes, and study them well. If you do that you will get an A. The tests are not hard if you have studued and she allows 4 extra points to be earned back. She wants her students to do well and is very interested in the material
I love Professor Janech. She definitely teaches things differently but she records all of her classes which is helpful to go back and look at. Make sure you know what shes talking about because you will be lost if not. She lets you do test corrections to help your exam grade and gives extra quizzes to help your grade. One of the best bio teachers
No required attendance, no homework, a few quizzes, three exams (in-person), provides study guides, exam corrections, & one final. Only requires students to know the information lectured (does not use the required textbook). Very independent student-driven course. How you decide to prepare for exams determines your grade. Lovely professor!!!
THE BEST. Prof Janech is sent from the heavens and will grant you with a blessing of a bio class. I took both 111 and 112 with her and she made me fall in love with bio 100% more than I already am. TAKE HER! Or else... but seriously, she gives STUDY GUIDES!!! like what an absolute gift from above. 4 exams, 4 quizzes, and extra credit, TAKE HER.
She is a very sweet person and passionate about biology. We had 4 tests (study guides for all), 4 quizzes (at least 2 attempts), 1 minor contraceptives project (clear guidelines), and one final, so still quite test heavy. Biology in general is fact heavy, so definitely a good chunk of time spent studying, but I like biology and human systems :)
Your grade is mostly determined by the four exam grades and final. The tests and final are almost entirely multiple choice and you can correct your exam and get 2-3 points back for each one. The material is straightforward. She tells you everything on the lecture slides is test material, so take good notes. No textbook needed.
She wasn't the best at answering my questions during lecture, but I would suggest going to the student led review sessions.
The class was pretty easy, all assignments were straightforward. Professor Janech is nice but I found her lectures really boring.
Best Bio professor! She made this class so enjoyable with her enthusiasm toward the subject. But be prepared to take lots of notes and study them accordingly, about everything that's in the notes are on the tests.
If you arent naturally gifted in Bio good luck. Tests are pretty hard which makes sense for a science. She is a great lady and is very accessible. Her tests can feel impossible. Even after spending a ton of time studying. Complex questions. I wouldnt take again.
Professor Janech is the best bio professor. you have 4 tests throughout the semester and one final. she gives study guides and lets you fix 2 questions on every test. Her tests follow everything she puts on her lectures but if you study you will do just fine. She posts all her lectures on zoom and powerpoint if you don't go to class.
SHE IS AWESOME! Open note finals, test corrections. Only thing I would say are the quizzes are hard but you can take 2 times. She is so nice too and her tests are hard but if you study you'll do fine. Participation is not required but go to every class or watch the lecture that she posts otherwise you'll fall behind. Love her.
So nice, I would recommend taking her. Her class is slides w/ brain breaks. I've used the textbook once- I don't think you need it. Records classes and posts slideshows. You can go to her class in person or through Zoom, but exams are in person. Exams are straightforward, she gives study guides (study thoroughly because there's a lot of material).
TAKE HER FOR BIO!! This is my second semester having prof. Janech. She gives you the option to join on zoom and she records the lectures if you miss class. There is a study guide for each exam that she gives you and if you do it and actually study the material its really hard not to get at least an 85% on every test. She also does test corrections!
you have a quiz every week, but she drops the 2 lowest grades. there were 4 exams and a final as well. quizzes are closed not on lockdown but exams are open notes, but only printed out (on lockdown as well). very nice woman, attendance is not mandatory and she posts all the slides, you can also join the zoom instead of going in person.
Is a very good teacher. Only one assignment at the end, your grade is almost all about how well you did on tests. Brain Breaks during long lectures to relax for a bit before getting back into it, option to fix 2 questions from every test, final exam is open note, textbook not needed (only need to know what she covers in class).
If you have to take Bio 111, take it with Professor Janech! She's such a kind and understanding teacher. She gives you a lot of opportunities to bring up your grade with extra credits on tests and one final easy project worth 10% of your grade. She's a great professor!!
Most of your grade was dependent on how you did on your exams. I wish there was more projects and assignments to do that could help my grade since the exams are such a heavy percentage.
The class was many students and she just lectured. The content was pretty much review for me but her teaching was not the way I learn best. She is very passionate. All the tests are online with lockdown browser. There is always a quiz due before the test. She does do test corrections. I liked her and I will take her for my next semester bio class.
I love Professor Janech. I was worried that in a lecture class I would not get the same opportunities to understand the material, but that was not the case. She is always willing to help and allows test corrections, bonus points, and drops your lowest quiz. It is not an easy course, you will have to study, and I recommend going to the SI sessions.
Ms. Janech has a gift for teaching and has many resources such as outside videos if you need extra help, charts, posted lectures, etc. Exams are straight from lectures and you can rewatch them on OAKS. You can fix test questions and the teacher is very helpful, wants her students to succeed. Not an easy course but t
She was very nice but, the exams were difficult and quizzes were on lockdown browser with very few attempts. She had study guides that were not that helpful to help with studying, rewatch lectures, and rewrite notes. She did allow for exam fixes and it helps the overall grade boost. No extra credit.
Janech makes this class possible to pass. The material is really difficult but her study guides help a lot and she wants you to do well. She offers fixes on exams and her lectures are long but necessary. Overall I loved having Janech and she inspired me to pursue a minor in biology.
You are only given one assignment the entire semester and your grade pretty much solely depends on your exam grades, which there are only 4 and then a final. She offers no extra credit and is not very lenient.
Really nice lady! Hard class in general, lots of detailed information, and the concepts can be tricky. 4 tests (+ 5-8 bonus pts on the back) and a final. On the 4 tests you can fix questions for points back (usually 4 pts per test). There's 1 assignment worth 10% of your grade which is there to help you. Zoom recordings if you miss class!
I loved this class I know ppl who struggled and there aren't a lot of grade opportunities. You have 4 exams a final and a few assignments on flip grid so you have to do well on exams. She is easy to contact and answers questions thoroughly inside and outside of class. Janech does little brain breaks for her classes over an hr which was cute!
one of the best professors i couldve asked for my first semester! you can really tell she cares about her students and that they learn the information. the class is super easy and she gives no homework
Mrs. Janech was the best. She was my bestie boo and the fact that attendance was not mandatory was so groovy, left time for all the in-betweens. Anywhos, just do well on the exams and follow her slides and you will do well. Love her and her brain breaks. Five stars
Mrs. Janech is such a lovely lady and superb at being knowledgeable about bio. I enjoyed how she put her lectures on Zoom so I could stay in my cozy room, relax, and take notes as I also watched Breaking Bad. Also, she is Kathy Bates' twinnie.
Very difficult class. She does not use the textbook and you have to learn most of the information on your own. she offers no extra credit. Test are worded VERY difficult and go more in-depth than lecture does. She is a very sweet lady tho.
Very sweet and gave heavy lectures. All lectures were recorded and posted online so attendance isn't mandatory. 10 quizzes, 2 get dropped, 4 exams, one final exam you can exempt out of if you have over a 93, and one homework assignment that took me one afternoon. All quizzes and exams are open notes but she does require a LDB. Low stress class!
Weekly quizzes but all open notes. All exams are open notes also, including the final exam. Her lectures are actually interesting and you have the option to join on zoom if sick, as well as she posts all the lectures and slides. She's super sweet and easy to get in touch with. Take this class!
Fall 23. Textbook "required" and needed if you want to supplement your instruction, but you could probably get by without it. Good professor, she puts absolutely everything you need to know on the slides, so you can just review them for a few hours before an exam and do okay if you pay attention in the lectures. Only a few graded events.
Professor Janech is a knowledgeable and dedicated instructor who wants her students to succeed. The course is challenging, but she provides helpful resources like study guides and lecture recordings. The quizzes and exams are tough, but you can fix questions for partial credit. unstuck AI was a great study tool to supplement the material.
Professor Janech is a really sweet lady, but for her class was very difficult. She does use the textbook to pull the information for the slides. Attendance isn't mandatory because she records the lectures and there's always a zoom meeting. She expects you to put an insane amount of hours into studying and her tests are worded very difficultly.
Professor Janech was overall an excellent teacher. She is very lecture heavy, but does offer live lectures via Zoom if you have to miss class. You will have to take the time out of class to study the material and your grade will reflect how much time you put in. Your grade is very dependent on how you do on the exams.
grading is harsh. its exams + quizzes + one assignment worth 10 points: 6 quiz grades. 4 attempts each. one is just over the syllabus. lowest quiz grade gets dropped + 4 in-person paper exams. allows 2 fixes (each question is worth 2 pts so you can earn 4 pts back) + one self-tape assignment + online final exam. lectures are recorded and posted.
She is a really great professor. She does a Zoom and posts her lectures. She has 4 tests where you can fix 2 questions, 6 quizzes (the lowest quiz grade is dropped), and 1 drawing assignment. She does post very helpful study guides. There is a textbook, but I never used it. All the topics that are on the test will be discussed during her lectures.
Professor Janech was great. Her class was very lecture and test/quiz heavy with there only being one assignment to help balance out the exams. She was very understanding and very accessible outside of class and a very kind lady.
Prof Janice is so caring, interesting, and knowledgable. However, don't think about taking this class if you aren't willing to put in a good 8 hours of studying for each unit test you take. The tests were long and the material dense-MEMORIZATION is key. However she is easy to reach and genuinely wants her students to succeed. great prof, hard class
I am very glad she posts all of her lectures (video of her lecturing and also slides) online because if you miss a class (no attendance taken) you're not behind at all. I feel like the tests and quizzes are detail oriented rather than broad ideas which is tricky. You can use your notes on the tests and quizzes - you just have to have them on paper.
super easy class. if you make a 93 or above in the class, you can exempt the final. she also does everything on zoom so you dont even have to go to class. super easy if you just complete the study guides too. watch the lectures and dont fall behind!
Very good at explaining things, optional attendance and posts all lectures recorded with slides. Loved having her. kept class mostly engaging even with 100+ people.
Very hard tests and very few assignments so you can quickly jump from a A to a D. Overall, a good professor but you have to study A LOT.
Exams are hard you need to study a LOT not very many assignments to bring your grade up either. Lectures are long but she is good at teaching, she's also very sweet and cares about her students. you kinda need to have taken AP bio to understand
I was incredibly nervous going into this course, and she was so supportive and kind. I would recommend her to anyone. She is ultimately the reason that I decided to switch my major to health science to be on the pre-med track. I felt like I wasn't "good enough" at science to go after that dream, and she made me realize that I really could learn it.
Really great professor who cares a lot about her students. She responds quickly on email and wants everyone to succeed. It is a challenging course and there are 4 exams + a final. Get ready to study A LOT
Be prepared to study a LOTTT. Iv never studied this much in my life. Individually, each exam is worth 15% of your overall grade and she has 4. Flunk one, You're done. She has quizzes too but all of them combined amount to be worth the same as 1 Exam. If you're not prone to being amazing at Memorization I highly suggest that you take another class.
Such a nice lady, but oh my gosh I've never had to study so much. Study guides for each exam are HUGE and extremely specific. Just having a grasp on the material covered in class will not get you far; you must be an expert to do well. Only 4 exams and maybe like one or two other graded things, so if you fail 1 exam, say goodbye to a good grade.
