Awful teacher. She seems nice but is very bad at lecturing. All she does is talk about her kids and read her power points. Exams are unfair. She would rather test you on the percentage of Americans that have C sections every year than Freud's Psychoanalytic theory. Take this class with someone else b/c it can be interesting, just not with her.
This was a dreadful class. I'm pretty sure it's her teaching style. She doesn't post ALL slides from a lecture (she skips some to keep your notes stream-lined *lies*) Overall, I would NEVER take this class with her again. & The Exams are D E A D L Y.
This class was supposed to be good, but she really is a horrible lecturer. Her exams are very poorly written and she can barely explain them. Whatever you do, try to take it with Ward. Jodl acts like a flake and doesn't seem to have a strong understanding.
I don't know anybody who likes her. She sounds stupid while talking about her own specialty. Seems like she's reading somebody else's lecture notes. Frequently misinterprets theories as facts and mispronounces words. Discusses her personal life until it is distracting and awkward. Test questions are vague and arbitrary. I love psych, hate her class
This woman is a joke. She never uses her textbook. She shows more clips in a 90 min lecture than actually teaching material. She reads someone else's powerpoints and claims they are hers (copyright is at the bottom of every slide). The GSIs are terrible and unsympathetic. Avoid her at all costs!
Really clear, great teacher!
This professor doesn't even seem to know or like her area of expertise. Lectures are a joke and waste of time and she can barely answer questions usefully. When she talks about her family life it is was awkward. Every clip was basically useless in class in addition to every guest lecturer and parent panel. I love psych but hate her.
She teaches the material well but i found the tests to be pretty hard to get an a on. Although lectures get long, she tries to make them interesting by adding video clips.
I hated this class and I think it is mostly her fault. I am Psych major and expected to love developmental but ended up hating it. She just reads off the slides which are posted. Some exam questions were very specific. She also was awkward and told the most distracting jokes. Take Developmental from someone else is possible. I hated her.
I loved the material (which I learned from the book) but Prof. Jodl is not a good prof at all. Her exams were super hard, you couldn't do well on them unless you read each chapter carefully at least once. She was willing to answer questions on the phone when unavailable for an off. hrs. appt. but you're still basically on your own for studying.
bring a pillow
She is an awful professor: her lectures are inappropriate and uncomfortable for the students. All she does is talk about her kids, which is nice but i don't need to hear about their sex talk.
The class itself is interesting because of the content, but Prof Jodl isn't the best. Her lectures are a bit boring and her exams are harder than they should be. They're multiple choice but she asks about minute details and statistics. If you take this class, just make sure to study details like numbers and ages.
I love psych and was very interested in taking this class. The textbook and lecture notes were interesting but the prof just reads off of them.....therefore making her kind of boring. She is an ok professor and the exams are easy but you must read the textbook!!
Sometimes too many awkward references but overall she does a decent job trying to keep lecture interesting... but watch out for section-it's almost always new material.
This course was absolutely ridiculous. Jodl spent an hour and a half each lecture on what could easily have been covered in 30 minutes. Plus, her difficulties with the technology that she tried to use just wasted more class time. She spent way too much time talking about her family and making comments supporting stereotypes.
I have really enjoyed taking this class with Dr. Jodl. She makes an hour and a half go by quickly and is always willing to meet with you if you have questions. I find her examples from her own family as very pertinent and the exams are very easy as long as you are prepared. This has been my favorite psych class so far!
Good professor although somewhat dull. Kind of talks like the class is 6 years old but really easy exams.
The class was interesting for the most part. Prof Jodl is not bad at all...the old ratings are bad, but she must have gotten better. I think some of the video clips in class were a little long and not pertinent, but overall she was a good lecturer. You can easily get an A if you try. Discussion participation req'd...just showing up is not enough
If you do the work, you will be fine. Not too difficult.
Interesting class, you will actually learn something worthwhile. She offers a little bit of extra credit, the exams aren't impossible. Take this class.
Jodl is a great professor - none of the old ratings on here do her justice. She teaches with a passion that is lacking in many other psych professors and genuinely cares about her students. She knows what she is talking about and exams are easy to get an A on if you actually go to class, listen, and read your textbook now and then.
Class is pretty easy if you go to class. She give you partial notes to fill in. She offers extra credit on each test and genuinely cares about each student and the subject.
She's a wonderful teacher. Highly recommended. Her notes are easy to understand and the class overall is very interesting. My favorite class this semester.
This class is very straight forward and is not time consuming. There are 4 multiple choice exams and 2 papers. Very easy, interesting and enjoyable. She is a good prof.
Prof Jodl, was very helpful when needed. Just study the lecture slides & that's enough for the exams. Highly enjoyed being in the class. :)
Prof Jodl is very straightforward and if you go to lecture, you'll get an A. Never used the textbook so it's a waste of money. Her lectures are fill in the blank format so attendance is mandantory. Clear, easy, fun class.
Great professor who really cares about her students. Highly recommend taking her with this class. It is very easy if you study.
Really approachable professor; her lectures are clear and easy to understand...which is great because her exams come straight from the slides. 4 exams (none of which are cumulative) and 2 projects. As long as you look over the study guide and know the information she is expecting you to, it's totally possible to get an A.
The most interesting and easiest class I have taken at U of M. Jodl is amazing! It is literally the perfect class, take it, and do all the extra credits, they build up. She is literally the sweetest woman in the world, go to lecture, I really enjoyed going although it is not mandatory. Don't buy the text book, I never opened it and got an A.
Exams were only from the readings of the week and the lecture slides. I did not open the book once, it is not necessary.
Professor Jodl is one of the best professors I have taken a class with. She keeps students engaged during lecture and her use of video clips help me understand the psych concepts better. The instructions for the 2 papers we have to write are also really clear and helpful. Exams are easy. My GSI was really great too. Definitely recommend this class!
This was by far my easiest class this semester. I highly recommend taking it. It is pretty interesting, too!
Jodl is my favorite professor I have ever had at the U of M, and not only because the class was pretty easy, because I have had classes I hated that I got A's in. Yes, the class was easy, you really don't need to even go to lecture if you read the book, but I wanted to. She offered to get coffee for students-DO IT when she offers! She's awesome.
Jodl is an AMAZING teacher! Class is very interesting! Lectures are easy to follow: notes are fill in the blank. Exams are easy: based off of lectures and coursepack readings. DON'T BUY THE BOOK! I got an A+ and did not open the book once! 2 papers out of 4 required. 1st and 3rd are the easiest. It is extremely hard not to get an A in this class!
I highly highly recommend Professor Jodl. She's such a wonderful, cute, and awkward lady. She has trouble with the tech sometimes, but idk why people on here care. Exams come right from the slides and the 2 papers aren't hard at all. She provides nice videos to breakup the lecture and she's very engaging. Very personable too.
She's a great professor. Very funny and engaging during lecture. The tests were super easy.
Psych 250 was a very interesting class with her. I recommend it to all of my friends looking for a 200 level psych class. Very hard to get anything below an A if you study and do the papers. Discussions are pretty laid back too. Easy tests and no final exam. Lectures are done through power points with fill in the blanks. Take this class!!!
Dr. Jodl is amazing. I also took her Psych 250 course. She's very knowledgeable and passionate about developmental Psych and human infancy. I would definitely recommend people to take her course. The exams are fair and straight forward. If you go to class you'll do well.
Dr. Jodl is very helpful and very clear. Her exams are easy if you come to class. I didn't even have to buy the textbook for this class and still got a good grade. Her lectures are interesting and she goes off the powerpoints a little bit to make it interesting, as opposed to just reading straight from the slides. I would definitely recommend her.
A very easy and interesting class. Lectures are usually engaging.
LOVE HER! Really great class, would recommend even if you aren't a psychology major- a lot of life lessons and good things to know. Lectures are pretty funny and all the GSI's were great- Fernanda Cross is the best! Easy A, lots of extra credit and very interesting.
-Her lectures are straightforward. The exams were based on 95% based on lectures and 5% based on discussionbook. -She offers extra credit throughout the semester. The GSIs might let you rewrite your essays as well -As long as you're good at memorizing and study for a few days before each exam, you'll do great!! -Interesting and nice professor!
As an upperclassmen who just needed this to finish up my Psych major, I found this class extremely boring. I can see her appeal if you are a freshmansophomore though, she is very straightforward and a great intro psych teacher. Tests are fair and should be an easy A if you put a mild amount of work in
Jodl is one of the most caring and charismatic teachers at the university. She truly cares about your life outside of the classroom and respects each of her students. Her exams are lengthy, but she is very clear with what she expects students to know. She does provide study guides and is always available for office hours or to get coffee and chat!
Hands down one of the best professors I have ever had. Makes class fun and interesting. Truly cares about what she is doing and cares about the success of her students.
One of the best psych professors I ever had! A lot of people do well because you get a notecard on the exams, but that makes you actually learn it all. Lectures are super interesting and interactive, she's really nice and understanding. 10/10 would recommend.
I took her class for First Year Seminar in Emerging Adulthood. She also teaches this class as a 400 level course! There was minimum work required (assigned reading that wasn't necessarily needed since she covered everything in lecture). Super easy class with a group project, three super easy tests, and a paper!
Amazing professor, super nice and relatable. She lets you bring a notecard to the tests, which actually helps you learn the material when you're filling it out (and helps you A LOT on the tests). The first test is the toughest because you don't know what to expect, but after that it becomes easy and the class is easy overall. I would take it again.
Great professor. Very kind, and gets to know all her students. Lectures are somewhat interesting, and she brings in guest speakers to keep the class entertaining. The class is extremely easy. You get a notecard on exams, and every exam question is straight off the study guide. Write responses on the notecard, and you have yourself an automatic A.
Really superb lecturer, she makes everything very clear. Tests are rather long, and there are two semester projects, but if you put the time in the outcome will likely be a B+ or higher.
Lectures are an hour and a half but Jodl is a GREAT lecturer. Time flies in this class, and she has been my favorite professor yet!
First Year Seminar on Emerging Adulthood. It was a super easy course, but there was a lot of reading and she lectured the whole hour and a half. It was an interesting topic though, so I would highly recommend. Exams were extremely easy (allowed 1 note card) and the group project at the end was graded easily.
Professor Jodl is by far my favorite professor so far. She is so friendly and cute! Highly recommend.
Professor Jodl is really bubbly and sweet. She tries and makes a lot of the lectures interesting by including videos and small activities. She usually takes her time to explain which is nice unless its the lecture before the exam (she goes super fast and skips stuff) The study guides are really useful!
Dr. Jodl is amazing. Her lectures are very clear and she put everything you need to know for the test on her lecture slides, you just have to show up to get some missing information.
Prof. Jodl was excellent- her lectures were always interesting and engaging, very easy to follow along. Her guildines and expectations were very clear, and as long as you go to lectures (and pay attention) and study a few hours for the tests, you will be fine. If you're looking for a SS requirement, I highly recommend 250 with Jodl!
Dr. Jodl is a wonderful professor! Her lectures are captivating and informative. It's important to read AND attend the lectures to do well on the exams. Her study guides are very helpful as well.
Pretty engaging lecturer and material is largely interesting. She's really sweet in a mom kind of way. Have to attend section but it's easy and basically just group activities. Didn't open the book once besides to clarify a term on one of her study guides. Tests are straightforward multiple choice and there are 2 papers but you get to choose them.
Provides you with lecture slides ahead of time with blanks to fill out as you go. Easy to follow along with. Shows fun videos in class that go along with the topic. Non-cumulative tests that are easy as long as you do the study guides, read the chapters, and copy the notes in lecture.
Dr. Jodl was very entertaining. She related the class information back to her kids. She was very helpful and was overall extremely sweet.
Definitely take psych 250 with her because you will learn so much. Definitely doable if you are looking for an A. Psych 250 is such an interesting class, and Dr. Jodl makes it even better!
PSYCH 250 with Dr. Jodl was such an amazing and wonderful experience! She was a very caring, sweet, and kind professor, and her lectures were very clear and well organized. She is one of the best!
Take this class with Professor Jodl! Her lectures are interesting because she shows videos and interacts with the students. Her exams are extremely easy as long as you thoroughly do the study guide and take notes in lecture. There are 2 papers but they are over interesting topics and as long as you follow the rubrics, you will be fine.
Dr. Jodl is one of my FAVORITE PEOPLE EVER! She is super sweet and incredibly knowledgeable. The class is really easy as well; both exams you get a notecard and the study guide is pretty much the exact exam. Take this class, easy and fun. Take it!
Jodl is so sweet! The class can get kinda boring especially if you take it right after taking 111, but she kept it as interesting as she could. Lots of video clips and anecdotes from her own personal life. This class really is an easy A - show up, take notes, review the study guides, and you'll do more than fine.
Absolutely loved Psych 250 with her! Her lectures were so interesting and engaging. Go to lectures - it is possible to catch up from the textbook/other students but if you go to lectures it'll be much easier, and you won't have to study very long for tests.
It's been a year since I took her class and I still find myself raving about how fantastic it was! She has such a sweet personality and her slides are very comprehensive. She keeps the lecture engaging, and even her GSI's were incredible. Reading is barely required unless you're studying for the (very fair) exams. Love Dr. Jodl!!!
Dr. Jodl was probably my favorite professor this semester by far, and her class is really interesting. As long as you put in the work and do most of the readings, this class should be pretty enjoyable. I would definitely recommend taking her class.
A mother-like professor. Loved her class and office hours. A good lecturer and a good listener. Learned a lot. Very interesting class (about your life!). GSI was also awesome! Lots of extra credit (but be sure to attend classes for the EC opportunity). Not too difficult MC and short answer&essay exams.
Easy class, Jodl is a good professor. Very repetitive of psych111 though
Go to class, take notes, study a day or two before your exam and you'll be fine. Jodl is sweet, but this class is really an expanded repetition of Psych 111.
Jodl really cares about her students and goes out of her way to help students succeed. Great teacher as she really explains concepts well. Attend class and keep up with lectures and you will do just fine in this course.
Good teacher. She's easy and if you show up to class and turn in your assignments, you will get an A. No doubt.
Dr. Jodl is such a sweet and caring person, she's just so mom-like! The class can get repetitive and drag at times, but for the most part the material is interesting and Dr. Jodl presents it very well. Lectures are not mandatory, but definitely go to get notes. Overall, papers are easy and fun to write and exams are extremely easy if you study.
The class had a decent amount of reading material but overall it was not overwhelming. The tests were straightforward and it is important to include reading examples in the essay part. Make sure to meet with your GSI for the papers. I'd recommend this course to anyone.
Dr. Jodl is a great professor, her lectures are packed with material but she does a great job balancing it with discussion & videos. Overall, the class is straightforward, tests are 60 multiple choice Qs that are fairly easy as long as you use the study guide. Discussion sections are mandatory. Make sure to visit your GSI before turning in papers.
Although lectures aren't mandatory, it's important to go since the notes are fill-in-the-blank and she shows important videos and talks about important concepts in class. Katie is so mom-like and a hot one at that. She conveys material to make class interesting and is easy on the eyes when she lectures as well. She's a real gem ;)
Super entertaining lectures and everything in the class can easily be ties to the real world. People complained about papers being graded too harshly at the beginning but if you go to your GSI before it is due, they'll give you good feedback to implement into the final draft so you can get an A. The exams were not hard if you pay attention in class
Dr. Jodl is one of the best professors I've had here. She really cares about every student's success and makes an effort to get to know students, something unique for a big lecture. Study the lectures and her study guides before exams and you'll get an A, and go to GSI office hours for projects. Great class, very interesting.
Jodl is great. Lot's of extra credit, easy exams, and low workload. I didn't even buy the textbook, but it might be helpful if you didn't come straight out of Psych 111. I thought it was an interesting class. She keeps the class very engaged (videos, activities, etc). GSIs are also great. You don't need to do any pre-readings before discussion.
Such a nice professor, almost like a mother to all her students. Really knows what she is talking about as well and organized. Definitely would recommend taking a class with her if you can! I did not miss a lecture because it was always so interesting!
Looove Dr. Jodl! I've never had a more caring, more reasonable, or more accommodating professor than her! I've taken multiple classes with her, she's the best. A lot of teachers aren't great at teaching online, but she is very organized and has been great during the pandemic.
professor Jodl is so caring and nice to her students. she is so organized and lays everything out so well for the class! I always know what is expected of me, which is really nice for an online class! Jodl is the best and would totally recommend taking a class with her!
Genuinely one of the best professors I have ever had. Material was really interesting and relevant to college students. Engaging lecturer and super organized. Knew what was expected of us for all assignments. Also SUPER understanding/flexible with deadlines and online format. Literally nothing bad to say!! Take emerging adulthood with her :)
By far my favorite professor!! I loved the content in Psych 120 and Dr. Jodl was always understanding when I expressed any concerns. If youre a first-year student, this emerging adulthood seminar is such a good course to take! As long as you put effort into your work, youll get an A.
Dr Jodl is amazing. Her Emerging Adulthood class was the only thing that kept me sane trying to get through school in a global pandemic. Very understanding towards our circumstances and gave extensions and plenty of guidance on our paper. This class felt almost like group therapy and I was really sad when it ended.
I had Kathleen for Psych 250 and loved it and I took this class and loved it as well. She is so nice and her feedback is very helpful when it comes to assignments, papers, and group projects. I would definitely recommend to take one of her classes if you are a psych major.
Shes an amazing professor and really cares about the students, she also super helpful and encourages open discussion in class! Highly recommend her class! A great professor overall!
I loved this professor and learned a lot from the class!
Dr. Jodl is an amazing professor and Psych 120 Emerging Adulthood is an enjoyable class. Jodl's lectures are engaging and I love how she always brings up personal anecdotes about her family. Doing the reading is unnecessary since all of the information is covered in lecture. 1 group project, 1 research paper, and weekly discussion posts. Easy A.
Dr Jodl was truly a joy to learn from. Her knowledge and passion for the Emerging Adulthood topic is combined with her awesome personality. I love how she incorporates personal anecdotes into lecture and always opens it up for discussion. One group project, one research paper, and a few other small assignments (that are genuinely enjoyable)
Dr. Jodl's class was very interesting and she always has a positive attitude in class. Very welcoming too.
Attendance isn't tracked, however the lecture style is fill in the blank which are only available in person or via email (with reasoning of why you missed class). She offered coffee chats during the semester to talk more about the field and overall taught very well.
Really big lecture size but even as someone who's pretty shy, you still feel connected and comfortable with her. She also has a really great teaching structure that prepares you well for the exams.
Professor Jodl is the best professor I have had in college. She is very engaging during lectures relating her personal experiences to the topic at hand which makes learning a lot easier. The grading in this class is very fair with multiple extra credit opportunities and helpful office hours. I highly recommend taking a class with Prof Jodl.
One of the best courses I've taken at Michigan. Dr. Jodl conveys information so clearly and makes all the content so fascinating. Lectures were mandatory, but never felt like a chore. Didn't even need to buy the textbook, I never read it. 100% recommend!
This was by far my favorite class this semester. Dr. Jodl is such a kind, funny, and caring professor. She's very approachable and easy to talk to. Lectures were mandatory but she made them so entertaining with interesting videos and real-life examples. Exams were online this semester due to large class size, but not hard at all if you take notes!
Amazing professor, great and engaging lectures. Very caring, genuine, and willing to help students. Work load was very reasonable Fall 2024 for the class. If you understand how to read journal articles, the readings will be easy and manageable. Completely recommend to anyone even a little interested in social development!
She is a great professor and lays out precisely what you need to do to get an A. She does not post lecture slides with all the info, so I recommend you attend class: four exams (online, MC & short answer), two papers, and weekly discussion posts. I would recommend for all majors because it's not too time-consuming, and everyone loves psych.
Dr. Jodl is just awesome. Super engaging in class and very friendly. Always willing to help you succeed. I took her for a freshman seminar and it wasn't completely free from homework and papers, but she made them easy to tackle as she was so clear and helpful while giving us any resource we could possibly need. Also, she facilitated friendships.
Prof Jodl was funny and really loves her area of study. The lectures are deceptively easy to follow -- make sure to write down what she says, because you will see it on exams! She tends to ensure that you write down what you need, but some of it can slip past if you're not paying attention. And don't bother with the textbook, I didn't read it once.
Interesting topic. Weekly discussion posts, one large paper at the end, and a presentation. Definitely doable and enjoyable.
