TERRIBLE! I don't know if this is her first class, but she doesn't seem to know what she wants from students, and it is difficult to tell which areas to focus on. On the plus side, she seems very friendly and approachable (her TA is a psycho though - watch out!) I think perhaps in a year or two she will make a very good prof, but until then, avoid.

If you want to be tested on trivia, this is the class to take. Her class is all sparkle, and no substance. You'll have to remember all the trivia, yet she makes hardly any effort to relate the trivia to each other, and to the course. And her classes mostly last 50 mins in a 70 min period, even with student input.

Really her exams aren't based on tricky 'trivia' in any way. You would, however, agree with the comment below if you don't go to class or pay attention. By the way, she teaches Anthro 230 not 250. How about that for trivia! Her lecture should be longer because it's ALL sparkle and substance.

I agree with the positive comments about Professor Lowrey, her tests are quite easy if you come to class and review a tiny bit. Obviously the folks who wrote bad things about her got bad grades on their midterms. She does need a bit more practice teaching though, however she is getting better as the semester progresses. And she is quite hot.

Solid. She is very passionate about the material, and that makes her lectures relatively engaging. Her tests are straightforward if you stay up with lectures/readings. Overall, it was an interesting course and she seems very knowledgeable on most of the topics. But beware, do not ask questions about the syllabus.

This class was interesting but most of the lectures are very long and there was never any discussions. If you want to do well be sure to take notes as a lot of key information is not in the posted lecture slides and read the textbook!!! The tests were fair and not hard if you understand the topics. Questions and any interactions seem unappreciated.

Not a terrible professor based on my learning experience in her class. The amount of work wasn't too bad and lectures were engaging. However, she holds some absolutely abhorrent views towards transgender people. This did not come up in the lectures in our class, but she is by no means private about it. I will not be taking a course with her again.

I really enjoyed her class and the lectures she presented. Dr. Lowrey's class had inspired me to become an anthropology major. You do need a textbook for this class and it is important to attend all the lectures to do well on the tests. I would definitely take more classes with her!

I would recommend taking this class, the prof is funny and the workload isn't a lot. You have to get the textbook because she bases her midterms on said textbook. There isn't a way to boost your grade since there are only 3 midterms (multiple choice) and the final. Attendance not mandatory but I would only recommend to not skip many classes.

The course was easy enough, if you show up to lectures and take good notes you won't have to read the textbook as it is super convoluted and she goes over it in class. She's super funny, but I had a meeting with her once and she was super discouraging about my future plans. It's also hard to boost your grade as there are only 3 tests and the final.

Professor Lowrey was an amazing prof. She was enthusiastic and passionate about what she was teaching. She goes above and beyond to help with anything that she can help with. The only complaint I have about this course was that there was only 4 tests and nothing else to be graded on. Overall I would easily take another class with Dr. Lowrey!

Professor Lowrey is passionate about her work. Her Anthropology of Women's course was eye opening and informative. Many ideas she proposed are ones I will take with me for life. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in women's work and the shift of women's role through history. She's respectful of various points of view in her class

Professor Lowrey is clearly passionate in what she teaches which make the lectures easy to get through. Course content is generally interesting and straightforward if you keep up with lectures. Textbook is super long and dry but mandatory as many exam questions are based on it. Overall a good class to take for an elective

4 tests total if I can recall from last semester and she posts little practice tests before each one. The textbook is in the syllabus but you do not need it really, even she barely uses it, just a few little parts from it. Only thing is that she presents with slides and 50% of the time reads it directly, just not my style of learning.

I do not have a bad word to say about her! She is awesome, funny, does her best to make intro anthro very interesting. Straight forward tests, will meet with you if you have any questions, straight from slides. You don't need the textbook but I found it helped me extra. Subject is a little dry, but I 10/10 recommend her.

Her lectures are engaging, make sure you go. Slides are TRASH, impossible to study. Four unit exams, very clear cut. If you are part of the LGBTQ+ community, look her up and see what she's been up to. Her views don't come through in the course, just not keen on paying money for a class with someone like her, that's just me tho.

Pretty decent for anthro 101 as an elective, slides are terrible but if you show up and read the textbook you'll do fine. Course was just 4 exams and nothing else, exams were mostly representative of lecture content but had a few really specific and finicky questions about random little side bits of info, so pay attention to the details

You have to attend class and pay attention to every detail she says in the lectures otherwise you will do bad on the tests. The textbook and the slides she provides are not representative of what is tested. She is a nice lady but this is not a straightforward easy class.

She was the most amazing professor!! This class has in class essays which were straight forward on the material covered and then we had a group presentation which we created the rubric for!! She explained things in a way that made sense, the readings connected together well and overall she is just a fantastic human being. She is NOT a hard marker!!

its very important to show up to class if you want to do well, her slides are very bare and she tests a lot on stuff she says out loud. the textbook is testable material (annoying because its so long), so i recommend focussing on the terminology mentioned in each chapter, as her tests usually pulled from those.

Our classes consisted of her summarizing assigned readings that barely, if ever, related to what we were supposed to be learning about in that class. Very disorganized with group projects and had us make the rubric. All the exams were written and the questions hardly made sense for the class. She should have stayed fired.

Never take a class with her, she doesn't deserve your money. Not only is she a bad prof, but she is a disgusting transphobe who believes pronouns are akin to rohypnol (an article concerning this is in place of her pronouns on her uofa website). Her slides lack any additional information and truly gives nothing to your learning. DO NOT TAKE!!!!

Stay away from Lowrey. Classes were disorganized, powerpoints were useless, and tests were bullcrap. Assigned readings (what tests are graded on) are over 20+ pages each, and hardly had anything to do with the course. Very rude when emailing, and grading is a nightmare. If you like anthro, stay away from this class.
