I went into this class scared because i heard it's almost impossible to pass at the UAA campus, I took it in ER with Day and she ROCKS! She's fun and interesting and interacts with her students. Exams are TAKE HOME and everything can be found on the internet. Don't waste your money on the book!
If taken only because it's a required people love Kathy; those of us who wanted to be there didn't get our money's worth. Interesting personal anectdotes about her travels, but none relate to the RiseofCiv. Take home tests would have been good if at all clearly organized or related to ANTH250.
Rise of Civ. Kathy rocks, she is a true Anthro person. She works in the Forensics division for the State Troopers. She made her class very interesting and fun! Take Home exams were pretty easy and came out of the book. I totally recommend her!
I couldn't pass this class on UAA campus, this was so easy it was great. If you like to hear about her travels, and don't mind that she talks about herself a lot, its a great class to take.
she goes on and on about herself and hating men. shows lots of picts of apes. who ever thinks she knows anthro, they need to stay in school! she is not a prof i want to take agian even though it was an easy A
Witty and charming. Of all the classes I've taken at UAA (am a senior), this class was in the Top Two Most Useful.
Very easy class, very interesting to listen to Kathy's different stories, lectures were easy to follow, take home tests were easy. I took this class with Kathy Day because of difficulty I had with other professors that taught this subject. If I was an An
kathy is a great teacher! and her rants about her experiences are so interesting! i loved her rise of civ class so much i'm taking a natives class with her now too! she is well worth the drive to eagle river....and my gpa thinks so too! :)
Kathy made this class a lot of fun. I dreaded taking it but actually the Rise of Civ. class turned out to be my favorite class. I highly recommend it.
Funny, smart, completely politically incorrect. This is one of the few classes I took that was worth staying awake for. Barley any homework, most of grade is based on one project and two take home tests. Easy A and highly reccomended.
Only took class becuase it was required. Kathy realizes that everyone in her class is there because required. Definitely politically incorrect, but funny. Seems to take a lot of joy in shocking people. Laughed a lot in class and learned some too. Heard the other ANTH 250 classes were just horrible. Take Kathy instead. Two-thumbs up.
A fun class for people not interested in anthropology and who have to take it.
Fun prof. Her real world experiences were fun to hear about from her time as a skeletal forensic specialist (ie. CSI tech on bones). I'm still telling people about things I learned from her b/c the Native's history still impacts them today. Worth the drive to Eagle River.
I had her for Natives of Alaska. Well worth the drive and time. I'm alaskan native and I was skeptical of how a person who isn't native could teach the class but she did great. She was even able to teach it in a native perspective. I really liked her. She knows what she is talking about. Her class requires some work. Tests are take home.
A great class. More fun than boring. It's the best rise of civ. class at UAA.
Wow, what a great class. I highly recommend taking this class. A dull subject matter was made very interesting and entertaining. Worth the drive!
This is a great class. Definitely the best section available for the class no one wants to take. I actually enjoyed it!
I had no interest in the subject and this wound up being my favorite class. A definite must!!!!!
I had K last fall for both Rise of Civ. and Natives of Alaska. Great instructor, fun classes. What more do you want? Highly recommended
I loved this class! It's worth the drive and you'll never be bored!
Awesome class. It will get you enjoying anthropology even if you thought you had no interest!
Wow, what a great class. You should take it even if you don't have to! I had a blast.
Kathy made me want to change my major to Anthropology! The fact that she loves the subject shows in her lectures. She uses lots of visual aids like Powerpoint and video, as well as TONS of artifacts from around the world. Just make sure you have a strong stomach! She shows some pretty graphic videos -- i.e. trepanning videos...
A wonderful course!
I loved this class!
I took the course this summer and was pleasantly surprised. TAke this course even if you don't have to!
Great class, Prof has great sense of humor. Its not worth it to buy the text, as she posts links and power points online which cover all the material needed. Very interesting course, she has had lots of experience in the field. Take home midterm and final!
I read the other reviews and this must have been a bad semester for her. I found her very rude and telling your students on the first day of class she doesn't care what your name is because she won't remember it doesnt' set a very good tone. Very rude when I asked questions about the final.Definatly would never take her again.
I learned alot of interesting things from this class. She's very straightforward about the material, doesn't beat around the bush when it comes to discussing the more awkward things. She seemed like she was recovering from a rough spot in her personal life, but did her best to teach the class.
Excellent teacher! Just follow directions and you'll do well.
Kathy is a fun teacher. She mostly likes to talk about her favorite aspects of anthropology, which include forensics, animals, sex, etc. The class is not overly difficult. I did not buy the text and still did fine. If you need ANTH 250, I recommend this course. Just don't be surprised when none of the links she tells you to read work.
This was a wonderful class. I would highly recommend it and feel it's well worth the drive to Eagle River.
You will do well in this class as long as you do what's expected. This was one of the best classes I've ever had and am changing my major to anthropology.
I would highly recommend this course. I thought it was great even though I knew nothing about anthropology.
This was a great class. I was dreading it but then was presently surprised. Highly recommended. Kathy is great and has traveled allover the world.
If you have to take this class I'd drive to Eagle River. It's a great class, and I was surprised that I learned a lot and had fun. Highly recommended.
This is a wonderful class and I highly recommend it. It's well worth your time and it's definitely worth taking the time to go to Eagle River. I had this class once before on the main campus and hated the instructor so I droped it.
This is a great class. I highly recommend it especially since I didn't think I'd like it at all!
Well worth driving to Eagle River.
I was dreading taking this class but was pleasantly surprised. It was never boring and for the most part I had a lot of fun. I recommend Kathy as an instructor.
THis class was such an amazing class, I learned a lot. Just a final project (power point), research paper, midterm (take home), and final (take home). Make sure to take as much notes as possible, attend every class. And do all the questions on the exam and you'll do fine.
I love this class. It's one of the best I've taken and I'm a senior!
She makes this topic interesting. I think anthropology is a difficult class to teach, and she does a great job. The first section of her class is slower than the second section. Her exams are take home, but their all about time management. Do not put off her exam! If you wait, you may fail the class.
Excellent class. Very interesting. She has a lot of great stories from her travels. Take Home Midterm Exam & Final, Research Paper and 5 minute Powerpoint on what your doing your paper on.
I am taking this course now and am thoroughly enjoying it. I love hearing about all the stories pertaining to the different civilizations she's visited and don't have a bad thing to say. This class is a must whether you have to take it or not for your degree.
I will say this... if you aren't into anthro, and have dropped the class with previous professors, you might actually get through the semester if you take it with Kathy. Be prepared, she talks about herself a lot, is very opinionated, and doesn't care about the opinions of her students. She is obsessed with sex and death, but you'll get through.
Excellent professor, keeps it interesting and fun. As long as you do the work, you will get a good grade. I think I read two pages of the book and still got an A in the class. Research paper is kind of daunting (8-10 pages) but everything else is easy.
I loved this class and would highly recommend it. It's never boring and you'll actually want to come to class. It's worth the drive to Eagle River!
She has a true passion for what she does. Talks a lot and moves quickly. Interesting presentations, lots of pictures/stories from her experiences. Midterm and final are take home, you would benefit from good notes for these. One 8-10pg paper/PowerPoint presentation/food to share for a cultural project. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Good prof
I would highly recommend this class. I actually had fun and learned a lot. It's worth the drive to Eagle River!
Excellent Professor. Do the art project, she even offers to purchase it.
I had a really fun time. Worth the drive if you're in Anchorage.
This has been my favorite class worth the drive, definitely.
I put of taking ths class until my senior year and I have to admit it turned out to be one of the best classes I took at UAA. You'll have fun and what's nice is the Cathy has been to most of the places the course covers so yo can see photos and videos. There is also food each week.
Wel worth the trip to Eagle River.I put of taking ths class until my senior year and I have to admit it turned out to be one of the best classes I took at UAA. You'll have fun and what's nice is the Cathy has been to most of the places the course covers so yo can see photos and videos. There is also food each week.
This class was a lot of fun and even though I am not into anthropology and learned a lot. There are take home exams and I actually enjoyed doing them. I would highly recommend this class and Kathy has been one of the best instructors I've had at UAA.
Wow, I am really enjoying this class and would highly recommend it. I thought I would be bored out of my mind as I am not a major but I am reconsidering my career choices. Kathy has traveled all over the world and will show slides from her travels relevant to class. Worth the drive.
She was great when it came to going on vacation and having to work around homework. She was lenient when it came to others that did not hand their work in on time. She loved the summer so she was great about not keeping us late. I would recommend her, she is a fun professor.
A great class wtih a great instructor. Take it!
I dreaded taking this course and was going to do an online course instead. I'm glad I didn't. I actually had fun!
I actually had her for my sociology class. But she keep including anthropology examples in the lectures. But an easy class
I had Kathy for Natives of Alaska and Rise of Civ. She is one of the best instructors I've had at UAA and I'm a senior. I would highly recommend her. She is fair, fun and understands many students in class are not into anthropology.
I am taking her online class which I really like. The material is very interesting and she responds quickly, makes it fun and has a variety of materials including movies to view. I highly recommend it.
I took her anthropology course online, it was a lot of work, and the majority of your grade relied on group papers, which I did not like. Papers due every week, she was very nice and funny but I think I would've rather taken this course in person.
I loved the online course. I thought it was great, had a lot of fun and learned a lot. You had to do the work but that's true of any class. Overall it was a real good experience.
I love this class. It's a lot fun and I'm learning a lot. A definite must take.
This was a great class and although I heard a lot of good things about the lectures in person, this was the best class I took all summer
I took the Rise of Civilization class from her a few semesters ago, and it was one of my favorite classes I've taken so far. The professor really is a dedicated Archaeologist and shares pictures and stories from her times around the globe. Take Anthro from this lady, she's a blast! The only hard part about this class are her extra long papers.
I enjoyed the class. She was very helpful and the content was fun but also very interesting. i would highly recommend this class.
I took this class in the summer. As online courses go, this was one of my favorites. Kathy was very helpful, always responded to my emails or even phone calls and the information presented was interesting rather than boring. You have to do your work but that's true of all classes.
Took class online. Barely used the book. But listen to her lectures and take notes. Midterms and finals are from her lectures/power pts. Easy. You do have to work. Sometimes, she throws loads of reading and assignments at once, but you WILL learn something out of it. Do the work and you will get an easy A.She always pick up her cell :)
This was a wonderful class. I would highly recommend it. I have heard bad things about some of the other online courses the anthropology offers but Kathy is great.
This is a great class. I actually learned stuff and had fun. I am thinking about making anthropology my major.
This class covered a lot of interesting topics, but it didn't really spark my interest in anthropology. However, it is more of a GER so I guess that was not the intention. I liked how she made it interesting for all students. We watched fun movies and did unique projects including exploring the headstones in a cemetery.
Overall this was a great class and much better than expected. Dr Day always responded to my questions within 24 hours and I loved the course content. A great class even if you have no interest in anthropology
I had Kathy for Rise of Civ and Intro to Anthropology. She is one of the best instructors I've had. I highly recommend.
I had Kathy for two classes and I thoroughly I enjoyed them I learned alot and am thinking of switching my major. She loves what she does and really helps work with students.
I slacked during the semester due to personal issues but really enjoyed the class and Prof. Day was very helpful in helping me get through the semester. I would highly recommend anything she teaches.
I had Kathy last year for Natives of Alaska. I knew nothing about them before the class and came away with a new understanding. It was also fun and ultimately I learned a lot. I would highly recommend it.
I took Rise of Civilization from Prof. Day online over a summer semester. Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend her to other people. The assignments were easy and all research based. I never opened the textbook, only relied off the lectures and good ol' wikipedia. She lacks organizational ability and can ramble in her lectures tho.
This was my 3rd class with Kathy. She is one of the best instructors I ever had. Taking her classes makes me want to change my major. I highly recommend anything you take with her.
I love this class. I would highly recommend it for anyone living in Alaska.
This was one of my favorite classes. I would highly recommend it.
I have lived in Alaska all my life but I am really enjoying the Natives class. I had Kathy for Rise of Civilization and would highly recommend her as an instructor. I have since decided to minor in anthropology. I would highly recommend taking anything she teaches.
I had Kathy for Rise of Civilization and it was a good class. I thought I would hate it but she made it fun. If you're dreading taking this class it might be a good way to get through it. She has been to many of the places we studied which is good.
Better than I expected for a mandatory class. Thinking of taking more now. She made it very interesting and I realized I was interested in this stuff
I took this online class during the summer. I was very busy but managed to do all the assignment with little difficulty. The topics were very interesting., the grading was fair and I really learned a lot. I would recommend this class and I'm glad I took it.
Great teacher. Do the assignments and it will make the exams go quicker. (hint) Lectures are great and adds extra content if you are interested in a particular field. Professor understands the Students need and the student gets what he needs out of the class for a pre-req.
This class was amazing! Insightful, yet intresting!!!
Great professor! I had difficulty completing the class due to unexpected vacation but she was very accommodating and gave me extensions for my assignments. I thought I couldn't submit my final paper on time but I still managed to do it while I was out of town. The class was very interesting and fun. I highly recommend her!
Professor Kathy its very dedicated and passionate about her class and makes sure that all our questions get answers, she is a great teacher and I learned a lot in her class. Thank you ms Kathy!!
Worth the drive to Eagle River. I learn so much. Professor Day was always helpful. She made you work hard for your grade but I appreciate that. I'm sick of people you get to coast by. She really knows her stuff. I wish she taught more classes.
I would definitely take this class given your options. I had a great time, she has been to most of the places we've studied. I would highly recommend Kathy for any class she teaches.
I took this class last Fall and since then I have taken a few other courses with Kathy. I would highly recommend this class if you live in Alaska and you want to learn more about Alaska Natives. I highly recommend this class. You also have the option of doing an art or other project in lieu of a paper.
I took Natives of Alaska and Rise of Civilization with Kathy and she was great. She is pretty funny and works hard to get everyone through the class. If you're having issues just let her know. I highly recommend Miss Kahty.
I enjoyed this class even though I had no interest in anthropology. I actually learned a lot.
I really enjoyed this class. I took it online this summer and learned a lot. I would really recommend. Kathy always helped me because I had some internet issues at first. It's nice to have an instructor who is there for you and doesn't need to be.
I took this class online and actually learned a lot. My questions were always answered in a timely manner and there were many options for assignments.
I'm SO glad I took my anthropology class with Professor Day. Because she is an anthropologist herself, she knows a lot about the subject and can answer any question. Though I took her class through Blackboard, her correspondence is on point - She never left one of my questions or e-mails hanging. I would highly recommend her to anyone!
Kathy has been a great instructor, one of my favorites. She has traveled to most of the places we covered. It was fun and I learned a lot. I would highly recommend this class.
I took this class last semester and am currently in her online Rise of Civilization class. I didn't think I would enjoy it at all, but I learned quite a lot. I actually enjoyed doing the assignments. I would recommend this. I recommend this class to teachers as well as those in human services.
This was a great class. I took the in class version and my friend had the online versions. We both enjoyed it. Kathy has traveled all over the world and shares her various experiences. Some of the other students were boneheads and pretty lethargic but we had a great class and I would highly recommend it.
Ms Day is the best! If only other professors could take a leaf of our her learning style! I enjoyed her class the most this semester esp for a summer online course! her lectures are interesting and the homework is fun and enjoyable! thanks for the great UAA experience ms. day! if only i could say the same for the rest of the UA staff
I took this class in eagle river and it was fun and informative. I actually learned something and had fun. One of my top 3 and I'm a senior.
Take this class as it's mandatory for many. You won't be tortured.
I took this class because it was required. I really liked the online version. I dropped my last attempt and this worked out fine for me. I actually enjoyed learning all of the things covered. I would highly recommend this class.
I am a teacher and wanted to learn about Alaska Natives because I am new to Alaska. I took this class last summer. I learned a lot and think this is a great class for anyone wanting to be a teacher in this state.
The class was interesting but it kind of dragged on during this 3 hour lecture. Prof Day is nice--she's kinda snarky though, and I felt like the class was set up to be a high school class--if you get caught on your phone, you're toast! I never cracked open the textbook once. Do your homework, participate, and you'll be on her good side. Easy class.
I really liked this class. I have lived in Alaska for ten years and thought I knew about Alaska Natives but it turns out I didn't.
I was not too wild about having to take this class. However, I have to admit that I enjoyed it and even wanted to learn more about some of the topics covered. Overall it was a really good experience and highly recommend it as an elective or if you need some credits.
I took this class online through MatSu College I loved the class. Recommend it. I never took any anthropology but I found the class fun and engaging.
I had no interest in taking this class but really learned a lot. I think it is a valuable class for anyone living in Alaska.
I took this class as part of the requirements for my degree. I was dreading it even though it was online. I found the lectures great, the assignments fun but not overwhelming. I think she really knows how to make an online engaging.
I was taking the class to meet my general education requirements, but I learned so much more than I thought! Even though it was online, the assignments were fun and not too hard. As long as you participate and get the assignments done, this class will be a blast.
A good class for anyone wanting to learn more about our state and the original Alaskans. I would definitely recommend this class.
I dreaded taking this course but it wasn't too bad and I liked it. A lot of choices and Prof. Day understands that a majority of us are taking the class because we have to.
Really enjoyed this class. It was an online class but I liked the assignments. I learned so much and I would definitely recommend this class to anyone who needs a 200 level class or just to fill GER.
Lots of online video lectures. Do homework in timely manner. Some weeks are short assignments while others are long and time consuming. Professor is fairly forgiving and grades lightly. It is very obvious she knows you are taking this class as a GEN ED class.
I am currently taking her summer class and really am enjoying this class. She makes it fun. As long as you don't wait last minute to start doing your assignment, you will do fine. I was dreading to take anthropology but this class was a great choice. I also learned a lot about Alaska. I am glad I am taking her online course.
LOVE this instructor! She provides great feedback and if you have questions, she doesn't mind responding to an email. Some assignments are short, some are long. So don't wait until the last minute. Her midterm is HUGE so be prepared, but it's actually fun at the same time. No discussion boards, just assignments. I would take a class from her again
Really easy class! YOU WONT USE THE TEXTBOOK ONCE! Dont buy it, she goes over everything online before the actual class and its really easy! Take home tests, a presentation and a paper on the topic of your choice and thats all you do practically! Boring lectures but youll get out early almost everyday! Shes kinda sassy but not too bad
Midterm and Final were ridiculously long and detailed. Took me 7 hours and 5.5 hours to finish them. Requires students to bring food as part of your presentation and marks you down if you don't bring any. Flies through lectures lightening fast, barely enough time to write it down, many times I missed stuff. Book is not necessary.
Her midterm and final took me about 7 hours each and she doesnt teach all she does is review your homework in class for 2 hours. If you want to pass a class with an A go to this one just be prepared to want to rip your ears off after listening to review for the entirety of the class time
I took this class via distance education. I loved it. I came in not knowing anything and left with a pretty good working knowledge about anthropology.
Anthropology is not my thing. I took the class basically because I needed the credit. Had a good time taking the class-who knew?
I liked this class. It's wasn't too hard but I feel I learned a lot. I may change my major and take more anthropology classes.
I have taken several classes with her and I think she's one of the best instructors I've had at UAA. I recommend this professor.
Great online class. Never had anthropology class and enjoyed it more than I thought I would
This is my second class with Kathy. Love her teaching style. You'll learn a lot.
If you live in Alaska you should take this class. Well structured and you'll learn a lot without tons of work.
Second class with Kathy. She is one of the best instructors I've had and made an online class enjoyable.
Kathy makes this class fun. You'll love the assignments and I learned alot even though I didn't really want to take this class. Plan on taking her other online class. Highly recommended
I really liked this class Would recommend it to anyone.
This class was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it. I have no interest in anthropology but learned a lo
I took this class because it was required. I'm glad I did. I work at the Native hospital and learned a lot to help me in my work. A great class.
This class was one of the best online courses I've taken. The work load wasn't bad, the topics were interesting and I learned alot.
This class was a very good experience for my first online class. She helped me work through computer problems and how to use Blackboard. I also enjoyed learning about the different civilizations. Now I want to travel more.
I thought this was a very good class. It was one of my favorites so far especially for online.
A great class especially for someone who didn't know anything about anthropology.
I recommend this class. It was fun and I found the information very interesting.
I am new to Alaska so this class really helped me learn all the complexities regarding the history of Alaska Natives after contact. We also covered things like cross cultural communication. Best class so far.
Great lectures. Easy to create your own schedule with over a week to complete assignments. Wonderful teacher, create material!
If you live in Alaska you should take this class. I learned a lot and enjoyed the readings. The work load wasn't bad. The exams were essay and you could use all your material. It was a painless way to take a required class.
I just got done with this class. It was a good experience compared to some online classes I have taken. This was probably the best organized and interesting. Highly recommend.
I just got done with this class and I really liked it. I would recommend this for anyone who wanted to learn about Alaska Natives,
I learned alot about Alaska Natives in this class. It will really help me in my teaching. I'm so glad I took this class.
I took this class online in the fall. This was my first online class and I didn't know what to expect. I thought the class was very good. This past semester I took two other online classes that were terrible in comparison. I highly recommend this class to anyone that needs an elective.
You will like this course. I dreaded taking it but actually enjoyed the assignments each week. Kathy has traveled around the world and has inspired me to travel when I graduate.
I thought this class was well organized and easy to follow. Not too bad on assignments but you will actually learn some things.
Professor Day has an amazing set up for her online class. I was terrified of taking an online class, but In the end, I was truly lucky that I took her online class. Her lectures are informative and too the point. She makes her assignments creative, actually fun, and easy. Im being truly honest, this is an online class done perfectly!
Weekly assignments are questions from her power points. Pretty easy grader. You will get full credit as long as you provide the correct answer. Over writing is always better. Final is 8 hours of volunteer work or essay.
I genuinely enjoyed this class. Each week you answer questions based on your reading. Final project is paper or volunteer work. Professor isn't super friendly but overall her class is easy.
I had Kathy for Natives of Alaska and Rise of Civilization online. I loved her classes. I learned a lot and found the assignments interesting rather than boring. I highly recommend her for both classes. These were my first online courses and hers are excellent compared to the others I have taken since.
Be prepared to redo everything because it is never good enough and not have time for any other classes.
I have read the reviews. I am in the military and Kathy was able to work with me during my time away. I thought this was one of the best online classes I have taken so far. I recommend it.
I took this course during the Spring of 2019. It was my first online course and I loved it. I ended up sharing the assignments with my daughter and now we want to travel to some of the sites I learned about. I would highly recommend this class. I liked Kathy's style so much I took the Natives course this past semester (Summer 2019).
This is an easy class, complete it on time - no late work. All of the answers needed for your weekly modules are either in the folder or in the book. Write in complete sentences and paragraphs - not lists. Pay attention to what she says she'll test you on and be sure to watch the movies she tells you to, it'll help you on the midterm & final.
I really liked this class. I needed it for my major and although I've lived in Alaska for 5 years, I really didn't know that much about Alaska Natives. I learned a lot and Kathy was easy to work with . She wants you to succeed.
I am halfway through this class and love it. Worth taking and you'll learn a lot in a good way.
This was my first online class and I took it this summer. Even though it was a short semester I found the class very interesting. The work wasn't that bad and you had the option of doing an art project instead of a paper. Highly recommended it especially if you have to take it for your degree.
This is my first online class. I bombed my midterm but Dr. Day allowed me to make corrections. I thought that was really nice. I wasn't sure how to write essay but now iI understand what' expected and I'm actually learning a lot. Great class.
This professor doesn't grade harshly, she is fair but it's a homework heavy class, lots of assignments and readings per week, easy but lots. She is good at feedback and will help easily if needed.
I liked this class. Each week we had an assignment, would have more if it were in class. I learned a lot and really enjoyed the homework. I never understood the plight of Alaska Natives until taking third course.
This is one of the best classes I have taken at UAA. I was leary at first but I learned a lot. If you fall behind she will help you and allow you to make up work. I would highly recommend this class.
My favorite online class.
I read some of these reviews and have to say that this was a really good class. She allowed me to make up some assignments that I missed. She also allowed me to redo questions that i didn't answer correctly on the midterm. There is a class project but you can do an art project, write a paper or do 8 hours of service learning.
I lived in Alaska all my life and never knew the real story of Alaska Native. This course covers not only what life was like prior to contact but also some of the issues facing Natives today. It made a lot of sense and helped me as I work at the Native Hospital.
I heard good things about this class and wasn't disappointed. The readings were interesting and I learned a lot. For a class you have to take, I would recommend this one.
Kathy Day is one of those professors i will never forget. I changed my degree to Anthropology after her class. She is a wealth of knowledge and experience, and her instruction is incredibly informative without being boring. She has a spunky personality and an interesting life story. If you get the chance to take a class of hers in person, DO IT!
I highly recommend this class. I have lived-in Alaska since I was a kid and admit that I lumped all Alaska Natives together. You'll learn a lot and will enjoy the class. The best online class I've taken since coming to UAA
This was my first online class and I didn't want to take it. However, I have been surprised. Dr. Day is very good at getting back to me when i have questions. She also let me fix my assignments that weren't so great. I have been surprised how much I like the class.
I was forced to take all online classes this semester. This was the best. The instructor got back to me very quickly which was important when I had questions. I found that the amount of work was manageable and the material interesting. I recommend this class for everyone.
I got a lot out of this class. Now I can see why UAA makes everyone take it. The course work is really pretty easy and you just have one assignment for week. This is my best online class so far. Highly recommend it.
We all had to take online classes this semester. I personally prefer in person classes due to procrastination issues and because I prefer interacting with classmates. Out of the classes I took this semester this was the best by far. I didn't have a problem doing the work because it was interesting. I would share the information with my family.
I took this class last semester. I am taking a few more online classes this semester. Out of all of them the Natives course has been my favorite. You'll learn a lot and what you need to do is manageable and most is pretty interesting. You have the option of doing a paper, art project or volunteering at a Native agency. Definitely many options.
This class is fun. What I like best is that Prof. Day gets back to me right away when I have questions. I can email her anytime and she'll get back to me usually that day. Also let me redo assignments I messed up on. Definitely recommend.
I never took an online course before as this has been my first semester going back to college after a long absence. I have been pleasantly surprised. Professor Day has spent extra time helping me navigate blackboard and the assignments. I highly recommend this course if you live in Alaska.
I would recommend taking this class with professor Day. I had to take the class so I was dreading it but I learned a lot, especially since I plan on going into health care in Alaska. The class had interesting assignments and she let me do things over if I misread the assignment . It's been a good experience. .
This was my first online class. I was not really enthused about taking it but it was required. I was pleasantly surprised. I was engaged in the material during the semester and Prof. Day let me make up parts of assignments that I messed up. I highly recommend this class.
I had to take this class. I am actually enjoying learning about Alaska natives. I didn't do too well on the midterm because I was at a wedding that week. However, I was able to make up the parts that I did bad on. Who gets to do that? Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed this class, I learned a lot and I really enjoyed the professor.
I am Alaska native but didn't know that much about my culture from history. I learned so much and now understand some of the things that happened a long time ago that still have an influence today. I recommend this course and this instructor who will give you second chances on assignments.
I have had to take several online courses during covid. This was by far the best. I feel like I learned a lot and the assignments were relevant. Would recommend this class.
I took this class last semester. I was really depressed due to family issues. Professor Day worked with me and put in extra time so that I could pass the course. I thought that was really nice. Also, even though I didn't want to take the course, I actually learned some things.
This was my first computer class. I thought it was hard but Dr. Day let me call her to figure out how to get my paper on Blackboard. I thought this was a good class. I recommend it.
I was happy to get a B in this class. I loved learning about the different Native groups. However, I never handed in some assignments and even though I had a chance to fix some mistakes on the midterm, I didn't do so. I would highly recommend this class and you'll learn a lot and it is not boring, but instead interesting topics
I think this is a really good class. It should be required for anyone living in Alaska. I was born and raised here and learned a lot.
This is the best online class I've taken. Besides being easy to navigate Dr. Day allowed me to "fix" the mistakes on my midterm for a better grade. I love the material. Highly recommended.
I am a junior. This is one of the best classes I have taken at UAA. The course is well organized and Prof. Day gets back to you usually within 24 hours so you're never left hanging if you have a question. The assignments are graded fairly and I learned a lot of Alaska Natives even though I lived here for many years.
I just saw my grade for this semester. Wow, I am so glad I took this class. I actually failed the same class with another professor two years ago. I was very discouraged but professor day made it interesting and easy to learn. Highly recommend.
I am taking this class for the summer. I was dreading it but it is taught in a really organized and well thought out manner. I have lived in Alaska all my life and realized I didn't know much about Alaska Natives. So glad I am taking this class. Highly recommend.
I really like this class. I took it in the summer which probably wasn't the best idea but Dr. Day made the course engaging and fun. I recommend this class and would take other classes with her. I knew nothing about Alaska Natives so I"m glad I took it.
I took this class this summer. I wasn't looking forward to it but was pleasantly surprised as the semester progressed. I didn't realize how little I knew about Alaska, especially since I am fairly new to the state. I highly recommend this class with professor Day.
This is a really good class. I have learned a lot. The assignments were interesting and engaging. Professor Day made the class engaging even though it's online. Also, you have the option of doing an art project rather than a paper or volunteering. I highly recommend this section since it is mandatory for most students.
I really liked this class. The assignments were weekly but doable and I learned some really neat stuff about Alaska since I am new to the state. I enjoyed this class and it's probably one of the best online classes I have taken.
I really liked this class. The assignments were straight forward, and I learned a lot. I was pleasantly surprised about how much I liked it.
I thought this was a really good class. I learned a lot and thought the assignments were actually kind of fun. I learned a lot and would definitely take more classes with Professor Day. I recommend this class.
I took this class in the summer. I was not enthused that I had to take it as I am a biology major. In spite of this I really enjoyed this class. It was well organized and informative. I am glad that I took this particular section and thought Dr. Day is an awesome instructor.
I didn't want to take this class in the summer. However, I found the class interesting and I learned a lot. I would definitely recommend taking the class with Dr. Day. She got back to me right away when I had questions and helped me when I was having trouble with some assignments.
I was not keen on taking an online course because I never had one before. I have to say that I loved the Natives class. I am dating an Alaska Native and the course has helped me understand more of his heritage and provide some insights into his elders. I thought this was one of the best courses I took at UAA.
I really didn't want to take this class. I also haven't been in college for the past 10 years due to raising a family and working. I found this class to be very informative and almost fun. I learned a lot about Alaska Natives and now have a better understanding of their resilience and history.
Excellent and well-organized class with an overview of Alaska Native Cultures. I learned about the beautiful, diverse, and indigenous people of the Last Frontier--their history, languages, music, art, dress, environment, subsistence way of life, and connection to their land. I loved Dr Day's lectures--they were awesome!
I took this class in the Fall of 2023. I thought it was really good. It's one of the best online classes I've had. I really didn't want to take it but had to for my major. I think Professor Day has the course structured for non-anthropology majors to make it interesting and engaging. I would high recommend this class.
I took this class because I had to. I am in high school. I had problems on several assignments but Ms. Day let me redo them. She told me how to best answer the assignment and posted student examples. I think she is a good teacher and recommend this class.
This is a really good class. I didn't do good on my midterm and professor Day let me redo it to get a better grade. I lived in Alaska my whole life and didn't know much about Alaska Natives. Now I know more and don't lump them all together.
I had to take this class. I thought a online course would be better for me as I am a mother with 2 small children and a deployed husband. Dr. Day worked with me as I had been out of school for many years. I really liked this class and recommend it.
Dr. Day is a good professor. She really does get back to you promptly, usually the same day if you email her. She has good lectures and I actually learned a lot about Alaska Natives. I really didn't want to take this class but thought an online class would fit my schedule. I I recommend this class.
I bombed my midterm. Professer Day let me redo it. I had a lot of family problems this semester. She worked with me and was very supportive because she didn't want me to fail. This is a good class. I am Aleut and learned more about my culture. I have been sharing the info with my husband. I recommend this class.
I took this class last semester. It was a really good class. I lived in Alaska most of my life, and I learned a lot. I thought the course was well thought out and easy to follow. This was the best online course I have had so far. I recommend this class.
I thought this was one of the best UAA classes I have taken. Dr. Day answered all my questions promptly and was very nice. She allowed me to redo my midterm and let me volunteer at a Native place instead of doing a research project. I highly recommend this class.
Dr. Day is very easy to work with. I had surgery during the semester and she worked with me and allowed me to make up work. I lived in Alaska for most of my life and really didn't know anything about Alaska Natives. I thought they were all Eskimos. She responded quickly to emails and I recommend this class.
I was required to take this class by UAA. I really didn't want to. I am a high school student so I wasn't sure how hard it would be. Dr. Day made the class o.k. I learned a lot and recommend this class. I got an A and my friends who took other sections didn't do as good.
I just got done with this class. I had a horrible semester for personal reasons. I fell behind with some of the assignments. She let me make them up so I didn't fail the class. She was very nice to me and did what she could to help me along. I found the material very interesting and learned a lot about Alaska Natives.
This class with Professor Day was surprisingly engaging. The material on Alaska Natives was really interesting, and she was super helpful when I hit some personal bumps. unstuckstudy AI was a game-changer for prepping for exams. Definitely recommend this course.
I am a high school student who has never taken a college course before. It has been online and at first I had trouble submitting my assignments. Professor Day was pretty patient and worked with me until I figured it out. I am enjoying the class. I am part Alaska Native and really don't know much about my culture. I have learned a lot.
I really loved this class. It was easy to navigate and really not that hard. You just had to read and write about what was in the assignments, I really enjoyed learning about the Aleutian mummies as well as the evacuation during WWII. I never heard of this. I learned a lot which will hep me as a nurse
I thought this was a good online class and I have taken many. Prof Day usually got back to my questions really fast and was sympathetic when I had a death in my family and got behind. She told me her mission was to get me through the class because it was required. She give you the option of doing an art project/service learning in lieu of a paper,
My friends and I are just filling this out now. We had Prof. Day last spring and we loved the class. It was easy to navigate and we enjoyed learning about Alaska Natives. This is a good class.
I like this class. It is interesting, well structured and I am learning a lot about Alaska Natives. I am still in high school but this is the best class I've had so far. If you mess up, she will let you correct what you did wrong. I recommend this class,
If you have to take this class, this is the best section. I've heard horror stories about some of the other instructors. Prof. Day answers emails right away and will cut you some clack if you are having any mental health issues. I found the course very interesting and learned things that occurred that I never heard of. Highly recommended
Her class was interesting and easy to pass, but I didn't enjoy the structure. Professor Day was a tough grader and a little nitpicky for my liking- she was not super communicative and her assignments were often kind of sloppy. Her prompts had a lot of typos and such. It felt a little unprofessional considering how strict she was when grading.
Curriculum is 12 years old. Nit picky when it comes to grading, but will let you redo assignments. Tried to reach out to her about a question once & she emailed back "lets assume this issue is resolved" with no real answer. A lot of reading / videos for just a few questions. Gives you about a week & a half to finish assignments, but they overlap.
I am in high school and think my professor has been doing a good job. This is my first college class and when I didn't t do well she gave me advice and let me redo the assignment and midterm for a better grade. That's been very helpful
I am in middle college so I didn't know how what to expect. I really didn't have much interest in Alaska Natives but had to take the class. I have to say that I really liked it, I learned a lot especially being new to Alaska. I recommend this class,
I failed this course with another instructor. I have medical and family issues. Professor Day worked with me and let me take up work. Also, if I screwed an assignment up, she let me fix my mistakes.I really appreciated everything she did for me. I highly recommend this class,
I had to take this class for my degree. With that said I was pleasantly surprised at how much I learned, This is a really good class and Professor Day works with you to pass it, She helped me a lot.
Kathy worked with me after my dad died. She has compassion and is a fair grader I would recommend this class as I learned a lot about Alaska Natives.
I took this course with my daughter. I am a teacher and was really impressed by the way that Prof. Day handles and had the course outlines. My daughter actually liked the various topics and we were able to discuss the various topics that were presented. Highly recommended,
I am really liking this class and think it's good for anyone living in Alaska.
I took this class last semester and it was a good experience. I lived in Alaska all my life and learned some interesting things. Kathy goes out of her way to make sure you pass the class. I recommend this class, especially if you have to take it.
I am a teacher and had to take this course for certification. I am new to Alaska and thought this class was great. The assignments were straight forward, readings and films were very interesting and I now have a much better view of the Natives in our great state. Take this course if you have to or even just for additional knowledge.
This class was very interesting, but I did not have a great experience with this professor. She is an extremely tough grader, and expects a lot more effort from her students than she puts into teaching the course. She has a tendency to leave snarky remarks on assignments, but that being said will often allow your to redo them. Would not recommend.
I took this class this summer. I thought it was a wonderful class and I learned a lot about Alaska Natives. If you live in Alaska you should take this class and professor day is great.
