Hard tests and Ta's teach the lab and they dont know what they are talking about. Just makes sure you study hard!!! She will curve tests but still hard!
Very helpful teacher!! Tests are all math and most of the time they are really hard! Homework every week but easy. Curves class grade so it can be beneficial. Good teacher though just hard to get an A
she is very hard! no one every finishes the test. I cried every day in that class. the ta's for the lab suck! (except for koyoko shindo, if she's teacching it, take her!). if you have to take this teacher, good luck!
This class required alot of work. The teacher lectures were good gave example problems, but her tests were long and tedious never finished majority of the problems on test were conversion problems hard as hell. The Ta's sucked. Goodluck in this class.
This professor is aweful, her TA's suck, and her tests are insane. She teaches you one way, and then tests you in a manner you are not comfortable with. Oh and by the way, dont expect to finsh her exam, she plans it that way.
Concepts are very easy to understand. Homework is very easy, but tedious. Test are insane. Her review sheets are too simple, and on the real test she uses munipulated questions that are impossible. Test #3 the avg. was about 75 out of 150 (50%).
She is an awesome teacher, very helpful, always available for questions. The tests are hard but the grade is curved so it makes up for it. If chemistry is that difficult for you, maybe you picked the wrong major. Chemistry and science isn't for everyone.
hard exams but gives a review sheet before test-exam has similar probs. but asked backwards. she's very helpful, but getting an A takes studying hard. Not too hard to pass class. good with questions
Kathy is the best teacher! She is so helpful, readily available to help even when she isn't holding office hours, and very understanding! The class requires alot of work (do the homework and go to lab!) but it's worth it.
Kathy's tests are hard, but if you study enough, you'll have no problem with them. Don't just do her study guides. STUDY them. Try to figure out how to do the problem if she twists the numbers around. Learn to work backwards on those problems.
HORRIBLE teacher.those who said she was easy must have been a science freak!its suppose to be chem 100!she was boring and dull.after my sem.i heard she got fired!
tests are HARD... but she's helpful & patient, and uses a decent curve.
Kathy is a great teacher, her test are hard and no one does finish them, but its ok because its meant to be that way and anyway the class is on a curve. Casey Larsen is the greatest TA EVER!! It does take a lot of work but what do you expect from college?
OH WOW!! BEWARE!!! This teacher is not the best teacher. The lectures are simplistic the test reviews are simplistic but she slams you on the tests. Her TA'S are horrible and there are major language barriers!
this class is not only hard but also boring. This teacher tries her hardest to make the class interesting but what do you expect, it's chemistry. The lectures are EASY, the homework is EASY, the labs are EASY, but the exams are amazing HARD!!! Almost impossible to study for!
She is so sweet! I hate chemistry but she puts so much effort into teaching and forces us to get it. I really wish she taught more classes.
Hard Class! Wouldn't take it if I didn't have to. The exams are brutal. She tends to twist questions around so they don't make sense. Pray for a good lab instructor...you probably won't get one.
The class isn't hard if you figure things out on your own through the book and lecture notes, but listening to her makes me very confused. The way she explains things aren't always the best. If you are willing to put in some of your own effort, its not so bad; boring yes, but what chem class isn't
Kathy's a great teacher. Casey's an awesome TA.
This class is really hard especially the exams. The exams are so hard when she makes the studyguide they don't even correlate with the exams..thank goodness the labs are helping my grade..honestly i think she should give a decent curve..let's say..if u get a 50 on an exam..make it a C....
Great teacher. Recommend to anyone, go to lectures, study, do well on labs and quizes, you'll do fine. Very helpful, great curve for each exam and at the end. Attemd lectures and study, you'll do fine.
boring lectures but she only goes over whats on tests - amazing curves on exams...one of semester's exams 90 outta 150 was an A
Kathy is awesome. she is so dedicated to teaching and has all the patience in the world. the class is challenging but just make sure you attend, do your homework, and study more then the study guides for the tests. i loved this class, her sweaters made class interesting.
McNamera is awesome. She helped me understand chemistry so much better than in high school. her lectures is useful, and her tests diffucult but reasonable. She curves! The TA's for lab are less than par.
She teaches at an elementary level, and then tests really hard. Her lectures are boring, but they help. The study guides she gives you don't help at all. Lab is really easy though.
Study guides do help. Hard exams but you have to go to lecture to be able to do well on them. Go to office hours, she's very helpful. She gives hints during class of what will be on exams. She asks questions backwards from the way they appear on study guide. Good class if you work hard- Easy 2 pass
Her lectures are really boring to listen to, and she makes the homework and quizzes and labs and reviews super easy, and then on the test the questions are like nothing you have seen and SO confusing, but she curves everything so you will succeed, it is just frustrating
She curves a lot! She is also hard as hell. Her review sheets are easy, so u expect the test to be like that, but they are not. Do yourself a favor and take this class at a community college. She does teach well, but her test are so damn hard and she gives you NO TIME to finish them!
She curves a lot. I think like an 81% ended up being an A. Tests were pretty hard and not multiple choice. She was a pretty good teacher though, going to lecture is pretty important for a good grade.
She is a fine professor... don't worry you'll do fine... remember to do all your assignments and go to class! It's the lab instructor you might have to worry about... (Hope they speak English well).
If you know your Chemistry well, than she is easy. If not, then you must put your work into it. I didnt pay much attention in the lectures and still got A. Lab is where you do most of the work.
Awesome teacher, finsihed with a B and I missed a HW assignment and I could have studied a lot more for the test. Got C's on all exams and A's on quizes and labs. Her lectures are pretty interesting and so is she for being a Chem teacher. Highly recomended. Very easy, 3 exams, 10 HW and a few labs.
She was a great review of high school chem. she brought back dead information back to life in me. Exams are "backwards" so watch out... they're fairly easy once you understand the processes. And don't forget that grade curve!
She is an awesome teacher, I learned so much! She clearly explains everything and the labs correspond to what shes teaching. I'm so glad I took this class. Make sure you go to lecture if you take this class, otherwise you'll just be confused. Good teacher though!
I didnt realize how good this class taught me chem until i took chem 200. i did much better bcuz i took her class. she is very helpful, but its a hard class.
lets just say, what she teaches doesnt correspond to the tests. I wasnt to thrilled with the class. Seriously the tests are impossible, it sucked
She is a good teacher...She is very bubbly and wants to teach you, but her tests are insane. However, with curves its really not that bad. Her test questions are the "in class examples" (so she claims) but if they are, they are intensified!! She's a good teacher, but its hard material. Just go to lecture!!

very jolly and good natured. class can be super overwhelming. i never missed a lecture or lab, did all the homework and still could only get a B. you'll have to teach yourself some of it out of the book cuz chances are your TA will barely speak english. if you have to take it, you have to take it, but if it's just to fulfill you GE lab-DON'T DO IT.
She's very helpful- but the class is VERY hard. You will bust your A** studying, and if you miss a few lectures its hard to catch up. She will give you sample exam problems in office hours and will help you on HW. Good teacher, very hard subject.
She's a great teacher, very clear and organized. She's funny too. The tests are extremely difficult if you don't know all the concepts front to back, but if you attend every class and lab and keep up with the work, you'll do fine!
Happy, helpful teacher. It's a big class, so sit in front and ask ALL your questions. She will answer them until you understand. Beware of TA's. They tend to have heavy accents, so go to lecture to know what the hell you're doing in lab. Just take notes, do your hw and do the study guide- you'll get a great grade if you're dedicated.
This is a hard class, but she is very organized, passionate, and willing to help. Beware of the second test, it is the hardest, you will need to manage your time well. TA's are so-so, doing your homework in the help room can be good to ask questions as they arise. Lots of mistakes in the text book so don't get frustated if you keep getting the wr
The subject matter was very interesting. Her test were sometimes irrelevant to what was taught in lecture, however. She offers 20 points extra credit which is a full letter grade on 2 tests. 3 exams and one 4 page paper that can be about practically anything. Pretty chill class.
Anything before the first exam is review of chem, which can be boring for non-science majors like me. After that, the material is very CSI but too vague. Just study the powerpoints (don't buy the book). Tests are a bit confusing. Gives out extra credit and one easy midterm paper. She's a kind and smart professor. Very accomodating!
She's cool, shes funny and you;ll see her eat panda express ALOT
She is so sneaky. Her voice will put anyone to sleep and even though its Chem, its not too difficult and its not required to go to every lecture. I do not like this lady, she has a creepy chuckle and is out to get everyone.
hated this class with a passion. her voice is annoying and being there just makes you want to walk out. her reviews are NOTHING like her real tests. her reviews seem so easy but when it comes down to her tests, THEYRE HARD AS HELL!! wait till another chem teacher teaches. no offence.
very enthusiastic. 3 exams- don't take lightly cuz they aren't easy. 1 paper- easy A. there's also extra credit. Points wise, I should have gotten a C+, but she boosted me up to a B. nice lady! show your effort and she will reward you. she did the same to my other classmate.
Her tests are very hard, impossible to finish. The homework are worth 5 points and 4 answers are selected randomly. Never went to class but got a B-. Just have to independently study. I averaged like a C on all the exams but did well on the labs and quizzes. This class is hard if you dont have the time to study. Uses the book a lot for studying.
Average quality teaching. Imposes strange test-taking strategies.
her lectures where kind of boring, she doesnt do a lot of demos. the labs seemed pointless. reading helps a lot if you dont go to lecture. make sure to be fresh on the current subject matter for the chapter quizzes. and do the homework, it makes a difference. also she loves to give extra credit in the last 5 mins of class on fridays.
GREAT TEACHER! She cares so much about her students so it is so easy to get help. I hated chem in HS and i got an easy A in the class. she drops one quiz and one lab grade. 3 exams, a final and 10 hw's. lectures can be boring but if you stay ahead of the class you'll get an A too. She curves your grade so the majority passes C=84% or so
great teacher who is very pationate about this class! chem 300 is about forensic science and it is super interesting. tests are VERY straight forward.
Great class! Kathy is so enthusiastic she just can't talk fast enough. Tests aren't too hard but require studying--good review. Do the extra credit. Have a question or need help, ask--she lives to help students learn. So eager to teach that she puts most professors to shame.3 tests, easy paper and extra credit.
Nice lady! Study lots and ask her for clarification and to slow down on certain topics. Willing to help students if you ask for extra help. Subject matter is tough stuff but study often!
Class was really boring. She just lectures off the PowerPoint, though sometimes things get interesting since this is a forensic science class. Tests are curved. I got an A but it took a little work.
This class and lab is a lot of work. Lab and lecture go together and everything you learn in this class will pretty much get you ready to work in any lab. She's very informative and will help you if you need it. She'll also take you out at the end. So stick around! Make sure you have a good group too to help you finish the labs right.
lacks knowledge. She can't even explain simple stuff. Very rude and demeaning. Avoid her if you can and take the course with a human being, not a ..
Great Professor! Best Professor I have ever had during my college career! Very challenging class. Dont fall behind. If you work hard and are willing to put in the effort she will be there to help you every step of the way. She explains concepts very clear and if you don't understand, just ask!
I attended all classes, all labs, and did most of the homework assignments. The class is graded on a curve. I got an 85% and ended up with an A-. I attended one of Love's lectures to see what everyone was complaining about and I can honestly say Kathleen is way better. Office hours and practice exams are a must.
The problem with this class is that IN class she explains the material very well, but the second you get home to work on problems, NOTHING makes sense. i struggled with the material, but I must say she is a great teacher. She is also a sweetheart, I overslept on the final, and she let me retake it another day! Very willing to help students!!!
Hard. Curve at the end of class depending on how everyone does. Beware, exams are harder than hw, in-class, & practice tests. She tests if u really know the material. A is doable if u study & go to office hrs.
Took her chem 100 class over the summer and she was extremely helpful! She moved at a fast pace but made the class feel comfortable to ask questions. She curved the overall grade which was very helpful and would stay late in office hours if you needed the help. I would take a class taught by her again.
It is possible to do well in this class if you apply yourself. She is difficult and tests are tricky, but she is also very helpful. Watch out for the TA's, some are AWFUL. Curve at the end of the semester is a life saver. Go to office hours.
Notes are some what helpful, so go to class. DO the work sheets she posts and practice exams are life savers. She repeats info. But her exams are the hardest among all chem 100 professors, she admits herself. Good news is that she curves each exam, especially the final. If you want an A, prepare for the final from day one of lecture.KEEP UP!
I actually really enjoyed this class. Kathy is a good teacher, and makes things clear. I would recommend doing the extra problems she says to do. If you go to lecture and actually try, you'll easily pass.
This class was very hard. Grading was very bad, Ie: Homework took hours and only 5% of total grade. Homework problems never matched exams. I learned more off a 5minute youtube video than a 1 hour lecture. Definitely smart to rethink your choice before taking this professor.
Unclear, lacks knowledge, and most of all demeaning.. the way she talks to students is equal to an abusive parent talking to their child.. Likes to make you feel like an idiot. i highly recommend taking a different "professor"
Not a great professor. She put Chem 200 questions on our test. Notes she gave us were often unfinished. Study guides had things we had never learned. TA's in the help room were rude and often commented on how we all waited til last minute for help. Only good thing I can say about this class is the curve. Not worth waking up at 7 am for.
She clearly doesnt care about the quality of her teaching in the slightest. kind of just does her job. Very condescending and treats everyone like theyre stupid. if you go to every class and do every little thing she says you will geta good grade, otherwise not really.
Haha I don't know what other people are thinking that are saying this class was hard, good luck in other science classes. She was very nice in class and at times funny. did a lot of example problems that helped and seemed very interested in teaching the material. Tests are pretty straight forward. the 3rd was hardest but final was pretty easy.
Kathy was a great teacher and I found her to be one of the best professors I have had. She explains the material very clearly and was super helpful during office hours. I think the office hours are a must. It helped me to get an A. She can be funny but is a serious teacher and it seems she wants her students to do well.
Easily one of the worst teachers on the face of this planet. Not only is she elitist and belittling she gets some sick joy when people don't understand and she can berate them. She also specifically picks on female students and is unusually cruel. Avoid her like the plague.
im a senior who took up a minor my last semester so ive experienced many instructors at SDSU. This is by far the worst instructor I have ever had. She regularly sends abusive berating emails to the entire class after midnight, can not for the life of her answer a question politely, and is just plain rude. Thankfully she is only an assistant profess
She expects you to work. She will tell you how to succeed, but if you slack off and whine she will have no pity. I did well only because I attended lecture, did the HW, and went to TA office hours. My lab partner who skipped lectures failed the class. She is very blunt, that can turn off people who want sympathy.
Rudest person I've ever met! If you have any problems don't expect to receive help from her.
She messed up my test and gave me someone else's grade and made it out to be this super secret issue where I had to slip the other persons test under her door after hours. She was incredibly rude. Proud of herself for how many people failed the class. She also screamed at students in the middle of tests if they had the wrong kind of calculator.
Kathy exudes true passion for forensic science. I was blown away by truly how much she participates in class discussion boards and especially how helpful she was when dealing with students. The lectures she posted online were comprehensive, informing and well composed. Some of the chemistry topics can be difficult to understand but you can do it!
I don't know why she has such a high rating. She taught my honors criminal science class and I was so excited for the course and she absolutely ruined it. She wants to prove she's smarter than her students. And for especially the non-STEM major students, she has little to no respect for them. Not a caring lady. Cool course, bad teacher.
I took this class online over the summer. It was really interesting but the lectures can get a little boring, especially the chemistry-heavy ones. Other than that, the work is pretty standard and not too difficult (4 discussion boards, 6 quizzes, 2 exams, 1 short paper). Definitely recommend if you're interested in true crime and forensics.
Has no respect for her students whatsoever. Every email I received from her has been passive aggressive and degrading. Students give her respect but she wont give any back. Dont expect to get any help from her either.
Grumpy. Unforgiving. Negative connotation by most students. I had a graphing calculator and was not cheating in any way, shape, or form, yet she took away my calculator and told me to "Go run to the book store and buy one" - during an exam! Had to retake the class and was set back an entire semester because of this. Should not be Head of Chem Dept.
She is the definition of a Karen. I took CHEM 100 in Fall 2018 and she was the coordinator for the class. She is passive aggressive, degrading, and condescending to her students. She has an intimidating demeanor. She states that there's "No such thing as a stupid question" and yet she will belittle you in front of an entire lecture hall. Avoid her!
Helpful if you show you are trying. Expects participation in lab but gives good explanation of how to do the work
She will tell you what to do in lab, you can get full credit if you do it carefully. If you slack, you lose points. If you don't pay attention to lecture where she explains how to complete lab, you lose points. Overall friendly and helpful
She really knows her stuff and has thorough slides with lots of examples. Look forward to in-class activities and a poster. There's no homework, but pay attention in class to pass the exams. It was always interesting going to her class. It actually isn't a chemistry course, it's more like how science is applied to forensics. Answered all questions.
She's a good professor, I probably should've shown up a bit more but the class is straight forward midterm, final, paper, then a project that can be a poster presentation, powerpoint presentation, or a paper with a worksheet. She tends to go on rants in class but all slides are online. Pretty cool class tho she bumped by C to a B- at the end.
She is very knowledgeable, the lectures can be kind of dry but its chem. I wish this class had quizzes instead of the 2 exams (midterm/final), as it is a lot of material covered & hard to remember. She gives out extra credit at the end of the semester. Go to class & take notes, she lets you record the lectures to study later. 1 project & 1 paper
