Great professor
she's a very mean teacher and embaresses students in class..she doesn't even check the papers and just gives them a C or just say their not ready to be graded... she never explains assignments and just expects people to understand them alone. one of the worst teachers i ever had..i dont recommend taking her for english..
Great teacher. When I started this class, I could not write good papers, now I am writing A papers. She doesnt give you answers, she makes you think, but she is helpful. I defintely recommend taking this class.
She's a good teacher and has great communication skills. She also likes to go off topic at times, which keeps the class refreshing. Only downside is that she's very strict when it comes to grading. It's extremely difficult to get an A on a paper with her.
The whole semester she focused on one author, and she would make you write paper after paper after paper about the same stupid topic that made ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE! MANDATORY one on one meetings.expects you to understand what she is talking about, will embarass you!!!!! If you must take this class, WHICH I SUGGEST YOU DON'T, sit in the back.
She's very strict on grading. She likes to embarrass you in class. I personally don't think she's very helpful. So...no I don't recommend Moorhead.
She is extremely hard. I even took one of my essays to another professor and he gave me a higher grade. He said she focuses on the little things that dont make a difference. And you better have the correct format or else she docks a million points. Do Not Take Her
I felt she was mean at first she does not hesistate to call u out in class and insult you. She will be very helpful if you come up to her one on one but i do not recommend her at all. Grading is very hard and critical.
shes pretty well wth communication, but is rlly tough on grading. I got a C on every essay, even when i though it would be an A essay. not really as clear as to what she wants us to write about. she does alot of group work in class. better make sure your formats and quotations are correct or u get docked off.
she really is a great person and a great teacher, just as long as your on her good side. alot of ppl say they do bad on the papers but they just dont try. she really likes when u write about deep and interesting ideas. =)
Look Im going to keep it simple. If u Want a challenge beyond your dreams, and work harder then you ever have in you life, and would like to be stressed out everyday because of her, she is the teacher for you.I would not take this class ever again, I would rather switch schools..Stay away form her! And yes she grades hard as he!! so u will get a C
She is the absolute WORST teacher i have ever had in my entire life. She will grade you based on whether your opions are the same as hers. If they are not you will fail and she will tell you your wrong. Not helpful at all.NEVER in office hours when she is supposed to be.If she is your only option for a class take walking and save your self the stress
I would rather Jump of a building with a rope around my neck!
She is very Hard, if you are taking more then 2 classes she will destroy you!
Mrs.moorhead was born out of the country and in the sixties, she is very liberal. She is a very funny lady and makes the class non boring. She loves intricate topics or anything out of the box. Everyone else who tears her down on here are stupid and cant write well at all. Read the topic book and write on intersting topics = good grade
Okay, so I got a "b" in the class, but grade aside, I really don't find her attitude to be cool. She thinks of herself highly for being "scholarly" and "intellectual"...if you are not a dork, good luck. she has no problem calling kids out in class for no reason. She picks on girls mostly, and favors guys (especially guys on the baseball team) ew.
Well I had THE most fun I've had in a class since transferring to FAU!! She keeps the class fun, and relates well to students. She has a good sense of humor, and definitely knows her stuff. She does challenge you, but shows you that the classroom is where you practice, so you aren't nervous. Wish all I had all my classes with her!!
Great Teacher!
She is the worst teacher i ever had. i am an A student and that prof grade depending on her mood, if she does not like you you will not get a good grade whatever how hard you try.she gives lots of homework and presentation.I have english tutors go over my papers several times and she also find something to take points out.
Thanks to Ms. Moorhead, for the first time ever, I have developed an interest in POETRY & short stories. She has a great, easy approach to teaching literature and you will actually walk away from her class learning something valuable. Incredibly wise & very fair. She is balanced with all the students and grades fairly. Thanks Ms. M for your passion
Quit hating on Ms. Moorhead! She is great! Slackers do not do well in her class, but as long as you do the homework and participaet in class you will do just fine. I highly recommend taking Drama with her.
Moorhead just expecst a realistic standard of writing. Most kids at FAU are morons and write like fourth graders so ofcourse she gives them Cs.She has to repeat how to do a thesis over and over cause kids are so stupid..if you want a real teacher, take her class. If you scraped into FAU,stay clear cause your five paragraph essays are gonna get owned
Ms. Moorhead is a very good teacher! Her standards are high, and the class is challenging, but it's worth it! She is also very willing to lend advice to her students when asked. Listen well, do all the work, and know that this class will be a boon no matter what your field of study.
She is a tiough professor in her grading scale. She made the class fund by doing lots of prersentation. If you don't like writing don't take her. however, if you love to intereact in group projects take her.
She is a great professor. She really knows her subject and she loves to have student discussions on the piece we are doing. Definately take her. As long as you read the material and try she will help you and you will do well.
She is a very ineffective teacher! Although she has high expectations, she's unclear and does not teach how to meet them. She lacks respect for students and can be very rude. If you take this course, be prepared to cope with stress. Good luck! You'll need it.
She is knowledgeable and helpful, but extremely rude. She set a very negative tone at the beginning of the semester which made the course less enjoyable. If you take this class, have tough skin and do your best.
Extremely rude and arrogant.STAY AWAY!!
Awesome teacher! Made the class interesting with videos, audio clips, and discussions on the selections. She also grades well. She also helped improve my writing immensely and now i have a better idea how to write well in general. She does call out people in class so make sure u pay attention! lol But i would recommend her to anybody!
WONDERFULL TEACHER, THIS CLASS IS QUITE A CHALLEGE AS WELL AS PROFESSOR MOORHEAD SHE MAY BE ON THE RUDE SIDE BUT DOES THAT REALLY MATTER WHAT IT COMES TO THIS COURSE. SHE EFFECTIVALY IMPROVED MY WRITING ASWELL AS THE UNDERSTANDING OF CLASSICAL LITERATURE. AFTER ALL ISNT THAT THE SOLE PURPOSE OF WHAT WE ARE INTIALLY PAYING FOR.
Took her class for about a month and withdrew even though I knew I'd be wasting my money. She does come off as arrogant and if you don't like being randomly called on I'd stay away from her. A lot of group work and class discussion.
Took 1101 previously with another teacher and had to drop it. Moorhead sets clear guidelines and is extremely helpful. Great teacher!is a great teacher! My writing has improved immensely because of her help. Initially she seemed a bit condescending because she speaks her mind too much, but once you get passed that, she's awesome! Take
TAKE HER!you learn alot and shes extremely cool to talk to when you ask her a question she actually answers it and doesnt make you feel stupid. She is a tough grader but if you just do what your supposed to do youll get a passing grade. She allows 4 absences in the sememster but thats not a big deal because when you go to class you go over readings.
great teacher. a challenge, but she was always willing to help. attend office hours, she will tell you exactly how to get an A. I probably would have gotten an A if I actually attended class (not mandatory). arrogant, but equally intelligent.
she showed me how to structure my writing & gave me new appreciation for theater. good class!
It's a writing class - you learn how ot write. She tells you exactly how to do it. Do it and you get an A. She's pretty funny & random.
i love her <3
Just take her, you will be entertained!!! you learn alot, she's the best... esp if you are a fan of the arts. the movies are cool too!
I learned so much to advance my writing in her class. She's obviously so very passionate about writing, and that absolutely inspired me.
Cool lady who likes to talk, sometimes too much. She is very smart and loves literature.
Amazing teacher. She was always willing to help me with my papers and her discussions in class were always interesting and fun.
This professor was very challenging. If you do not have to take her, do not. She gives a great deal of stress and is not very clear in what she wants even if you ask during class. She likes to answer questions with another question. Either way.. I still received an A, it wasn't EASY though.. Stay away if you can
she tells you exactly what you need to write a good paper. i failed this course last semester because the grad student didn't explain anything. This lady knows how to explain what you need to pass.
i've always struggled with writing - she really gave me confidence and helped me learn a lot.
This is the best english class i've had at fau
i cannot wait to take more classes with her - she's fantastic!
Not a walk in the park but you'll learn. She is very passionate about lit, but sometimes she expects too much from this intro class. She gives a lot of readings to do, and there are 6 pop quizzes for the semester so you have to read them. Paper prompts' are pretty vague and challenging, but she isn't a very hard grader if you know your stuff.
I literally loved her! She was the best professor I have ever had. I didn't even do one of the papers and I got a B. She is always ready to help you as long as you ask for it and gives great feedback. I found her to be really laid back, although it took me a paper or two to get used to her grading style.
Stay away from this class. If there is a better professor take their class instead. This Professor was way too tough with the grading. I worked EXTREMELY hard on my papers and I would get Bs straight through. Don't recommend.
If you want to learn how to write, take her class. I got A on papers I wrote for another class because of what I learned in this class.
if you go talk ot her in office hours she explains things real good
She gave me a C on my first paper and when I talked to her about it, she could not explain my grade. It was evident that her grading system is arbitrary and random. She makes mistakes often, and after I pointed these mistakes out, I suddenly started getting A's on all of her papers. I'm still not sure what is up with her grading.
She lets you rewrite a paper so you can't fail if you do the work.
I wanted to drop the class after the first day but I'm glad I stuck through it. She can be mean at times but I don't think it's on purpose. She can be really nice if you do the work and go to class. The prompts that she writes can be hard to understand, but she just wants you to interpret it in your own way.
I can admit I got a terrible grade on my first paper. But from then on out, I got A's and ended with an A in her class. What she teaches in her lectures helps with your papers. The only thing that sucks is that she can take an awful amount of time on grading your papers, so you will have trouble to improving...
Do not take her class if you aren't willing to work. This class caused me the most stress but I learned so much from it. Her papers are a bit confusing, but if you go to her office hours she is more than willing to help. I liked her although she does get into moods. The ending plays were a great read.
LIT 2010 was decently easy, but her policy is that if you miss 6 lectures (class met 3 times a week) all semester you can get an F automatically which seems super unfair to me. I didn't miss 6 but I got close and I think participation should count it just shouldn't be THAT crucial. Her lectures are interesting, you must read the stories before clas
The BEST professor at FAU, professor Moorhead is super sweet! Helps you understand the readings, gives you great feedback if you go to her office hours. Show up to class, READ, she gives out about 6 quizzes throughout of the semester. Her class is also very interesting!
Professor Moorehead is very interesting, funny and also strict. I enjoyed her summer class, but I must warn you she's a TOUGH GRADER! I don't think A's exist in her class. I have written papers, gone to the writing lab, had 5 people read it and it still didn't get more than a 85% B. Fun class, but the grading was really tough!
Moorhead is a great professor. However, do not take if you want an easy A. She's amazing with feedback so don't be afraid to ask. She uses a very traditional teaching method you do have to purchase all of the items on the syllabus and attend class but it's worth it. She's great at expanding your POV on the readings and helping you understand ideas
I had her for Interpretation of Fiction and she is amazing. I would not take her for ENC classes because she is a tough grader, however for the Interpretation class she 10/10, she has a sense of humor and is easy to talk too
I had her for ENC1102, REALLY TOUGH GRADER. I only took this class because I had too. She's so strict with phones it's not even funny. If you have a 9AM class with her and you come at 9:02 you're late! she allows 5 absences, even if you're sick it doesn't count as an excuse. She can be nice but i suggest taking someone else.
She's an insanely tough grader for a prerequisite class. She's super strict about phones and definitely tests your knowledge of the readings. I would definitely avoid her especially at 1102 but if you wanna test your meddle, take her.
She has NO emotion! If there's a minute left of class, sees a phone on a desk and the student is not using it, she says put it away like they're in high school. Very mean teacher who loves to embarrass people. Do the readings because if she askes you what a word means, and no one answers, she threatens to give the class vocab quizzes. STAY AWAY!
I would highly not recommend this lady. She is very aggressive but will take out that aggression on one student. TERRIBLE.
This class was a nightmare. We had to write 2 essays, 4 reading responses, 8 quizzes, midterm and final in class and class participation. The teacher was very mean, she liked to embarrass students. She called everybody by the last name and asked questions. If nobody answered she gave quizez.
i dont' know why you guys are bugging - she's nice. it's an english class - they all have papers
I would definitely avoid her, especially for ENC1102. She is an insanely tough grader and picks apart everything you write. She will individually scold you if you forget a textbook or have the wrong one. She doesn't give clear prompts for essays or explain them well but will still give bad grades on them if you don't write exactly what she wants.
Mrs. Moorhead is an amazing English teacher, and I enjoyed her class thoroughly. She really does make an effort to teach and better her students' writing. I have learned many things by taking her class. She is also very nice once you get to know her, so make sure to go to her office hours. She will sit down and help you get a better game. SKSKSKSKK
She came to school with laryngitis. She did not grade papers on time, so I did not know what she expected. She forced group work. We were required to do a midterm memo and she graded us on our opinions, I got an 87/100 and she didn't even explain why. She grades too harshly. I most definitely would not take her again.
She is a good professor. But she does make you read in class and talk with other students about the reading. The prompts she gives force you to think, which expected out of writing class. Must come to class on time. The essay amount is doable but she is kinda harsh with grading. I would take it again if I had to. She didn't give my class quizzes.
She's alright. Not a bad teacher or person. My experience with her is that what she wanted the class to learn would sometimes get in the way of the grading criteria. We had a slight issue in the beginning of the semester where during the office hour assignment, she didn't review my paper because of her opinions on the topic I chose.
I really liked her discussions and her as a person but she is a tough grader. There are other professors who grade much easier and will basically guarantee you an A as long as you do the assignment, she is not one of them. Just be ready to work hard and follow her specific writing style she likes.
Well, it's the end of the semester and I don't know what my grade is going to be. Takes forever to grade. Feedback is terrible, gives you a 70% and just says "Keep up good work". Don't take her unless needed. Very strict grading. Told to write a rough draft, then forget to say in the instructions not to use a certain idea, after everyone submitted.
Terrible professor with unclear grading criteria, a random last-minute assignment she gives without much information. Very Fragile Ego so careful about stepping on her toes or you might fail. #Sucks
Makes you work for your grade but honestly a good professor as long as you talk to her she will show you how to do good In her class you just need to talk to her and make an effort
Very rude profesor. No consideration in the slightest to the current pandemic, there are no late submissions at all. Very tough grader with no useful feedback and takes AGES to grade.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. Her rudeness is not even what makes the class terrible, its the grading. Her prompts are extremely vague and you can write literally word for word exactly what is on the grading criteria but barely receive a good grade. RIDICULOUS grading and feedback. Seriously do NOT take this teacher!
Horrible teacher. Gets extremely upset when nobody answers rhetorical questions. Horrible grader in two senses, first she is a tough grader that gives little to no remediation, and secondly she graded EVERYTHING (besides the 2 main essays) on finals week. I would not take her again. PLEASE if you are reading this trust me it will save your sanity.
Worst professor I've ever taken. Gets angry at students when they find it hard to follow her vague instructions and takes months to grade a two-paragraph homework. Everything was left ungraded until finals week.
Wont know your grade until the very end of the semester. Ridiculous harsh grading with little useful feedback that you dont even get to read until everything is graded which is the end of the class so dont expect any help from that. Talking to her is like walking on eggshells, most rude professor Ive had. Cant even ask her to repeat a question!
If you put in the effort this class is not hard at all. She assigns readings, but they are typically relatively short. She has a great sense of humor and is not hard to conversate with. Just do the work and participate in class and it will be easy.
The way this class is structured is a workshop, so if you can't handle people reading and commenting on your writing then this is not the class for you. Do your work and meet the deadline because you won't have another chance. Her personality can seem a bit abrasive at times, but I would gladly take this professor again. I grew a lot in this class.
Worst teacher I have ever had. She is always super sassy and rude. She never makes any sense. Everyone is always confused. This class has been the biggest waste of time. I haven't learned anything important. Do not take this class with this teacher.
Shes confusing and a little rude to the students. Very harsh grader. Do yourself a favor and dont take this class.
Worst teacher. Doesnt grade assignments until finals week and then leaves useless comments. Also keeps changing the grades that she did already put in??? Dont have a technical glitch because she wont care and will not let you resubmit, even with proof.
You wont know your final grade until the end of the semester. One of the worst professors Ive had shes so rude to everybody and grades extremely harshly. If you value your sanity do not take this class.
DO NOT TAKE MOORHEAD! her grading is just terrible and she does it all at the very end of the semester. Most likely the day you're done with finals for other classes. Missing one assignment will drop your grade by so much. STAY AWAY
I felt like she was always talking down to me. If I had a problem the solution was so "obvious" or if I misunderstood the directions for an assignment it had to be because I was "irresponsible" or "not reading properly". Her class added more stress in my life than I needed and has made me question whether or not college is worth it.
She takes a while to put your grades in. She never answers your question directly and just makes everyone in the class more confused with what she tries to give you as an answer. I would hate going to this class but if I didn't I would have lost points. This class felt like a waste of time and I didn't learn anything.
This professor is amazing- she is so into theater, seriously. She makes you go see a live theater performance which I didnt like at first but now Im glad I did. I learned so much this semester!
DO NOT TAKE this class if your teacher is Kathleen Moorhead! She is not nice, not a "professor", a very tough grader, does not care about her students, is extremely covid scared, wears a mask during class and will not meet with students one on one during office hours (will only meet via Zoom). She does not care if you work hard and still fail.
She honestly was not a bad teacher, there are 3 essays, peer reviews, and rough drafts. There is also a "final" and a midterm reflection. She is kind of passive-aggressive tho and she also puts in a grade for attendance... She is a tough grader but if you do as she says and participate in class it shouldn't be too bad and you will pass.
Do yourself a favor and do not waste your time, money, or sanity for this class. Instructions for any assignments are beyond unclear, and if you ask a question, she practically shames you for doing so. Very COVID cautious, and will get annoyed if you cough. She is overly political in class, and overall just not a pleasant teacher.
Kathleen Moorhead is an excellent teacher, respectful and funny. However, there can be areas she can improve on such as her clarity when it comes to stating her expectations for the assignments and what should be done. There were instances where many students and myself were unclear of what should be done nevertheless, she is a beautiful soul.
I had a mixed experience with Moorhead. While she was knowledgeable about the subject matter, I found her grading to be overly harsh and inconsistent. Be ready to write 5-6 page papers and be yelled at for breathing. Famous Quotes from Moorhead include: "Do you need a mask?" "Screens down" "Am I boring you?" "Phones away" "Mkay"
VERY passive-aggressive. Very "by the book" when it comes to rules. Harsh grader for no reason. Vague instructions then expects you to pick up on her prompts. Strict no "phones policy". Very egotistical and ALWAYS has to be right. If you disagree with her opinion you're wrong even when you're right. DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE. Enjoy though :))
Pop quizzes every class so make sure to complete the 90pages of reading she assigns after every class. I got sick with COVID and was ill for a full week. I only miss one of her lectures and she refused to let me make up any of the work done in class. There are no makeups and no extra credit. There is no study guide for the final exam. WouldNOTtake
