Very loud and abnoxious. Nice though. Expects class participation and will pick a student and call on them all class.Essay and short answer tests.Must study alot b4 test to do good.Picky grader.Very approachable but I wont take her again.
Very good instructor. She uses a law school model. Not about reciting the info, she stresses learning the concepts. Found the grading fair (bone head mistake costs me a 100 on a test) but tough. WAKE UP!!! This is college, she attended Emory and was an Asst US Attorney. She expects things!
If you like law school-shes perfect for you. If not, run!
This class is awesome! Great professor. She really emphasizes getting as opposed to just reading. If you go to class you can do very well. Test are fair, she gives a study guide. If you fail her class you need to wake up because she makes it fun and not boring! She is very educated about law.
She is an excellent professor who makes a genuine effort to get to know and work with each student. Even though I rarely go to class, I have made two perfect scores on the exams. Like any other class, you get out what you put in! *I do recommend this class for upperclassmen ONLY.
She is a great professor. Comes across very intense, but is very approachable. The class involves constant interaction, and once she learnes your name, prepare to be called on. She is great, and I highly recommend the class. I've made A's on all the exams and only studied the night before.
excellent instucture. very knowledgeable and interesting
Essay and short answer tests-must study hard for tests! Also if you dont like being called on-this isnt the class for you! Must be awake when in class and pay attention! Shes very nice and caring though but this is like law school!(shes an attorney).
I love the classes I had with her. She is the best prof I've ever had. She gives you a test outline and if you study it you'll do fine. She is so helpful and easy to understand. If you don't want to be called on or put on the spot don't take this class, but she doesn't mind if you say don't know.
By far my favourite professor yet! Her class is interesting, esp. because of her real world experience. I would recommend taking any class with her. She is extremely helpful and very approachable. And if you are interested in law school, she is the person to talk too.
This isnt an easy class.Must be awake to go or you will look like a fool when she calls on you the entire class period. Tests are all essay-eventhough you get an outline there is still alot of studying to be done. This is definately an UPPERCLASSMAN class. Too intense for me-Im not in Law school!!
By far on of the best professors I have had! She is energetic, and loves what she does! Go to class, participate, and you will really enjoy her! I would recommend taking any class with her! Studying for her tests is essential, but great class, and great professor!

by far one of the worst teachers i have ever had. does not know how to teach a class. extremely boring. does not know anything other than what is printed in the book. wouldnt take her class.
her classes are extremley easy if you really are supposed to be in college. first cj class taken at the actual college level. she teaches very well and knows what she is talking about, most students who dont do well, do bad because they dont show up for class
test come straight from book
She's a decent teacher, but she's too strict. She won't help you out at all, and doesn't return work so you can improve. You won't even know why you didn't get a good grade. Tests are too hard for what you're supposed to get out of the class.
She is an awesome teacher. You have to do the work and study but shes so intresting and if you are in the criminal justice fielod then you should be too. Take her@
This lady is the devil! She will call you out in class and make you feel like a complete idiot. She has no soul! She also knows nothing about the NC laws. She only knows what she has dealt with which doesnt help us at all. ::sigh:: I will NEVER take her again!
Awesome Teacher. Keeps you interested in what she is talking about and really knows her stuf.. Big on white collar crime, but knows all of what she teaches. Definately a class worth taking.
I love this prof...this was my third class with her and I'm sad I can't take anymore with her. She is a great teacher. Know the information on the test outline, questons come from it. Doesn't take attendece, but come to class! The paper for this class is hard, but stay on top of it and you'll get through it. Greatest Prof at UNCC...BY FAR!
First day of class she intimidated me, but now she is my favorite prof this semester; the easiest and the most interesting. She only calls you out in class if she thinks you're not paying attention. Class attendance is not essential, but she's an interesting lecturer. CJ is not my major, but I would sign up for another one of her classes.
She is awesome and energetic. She knows what she is teaching and exams are easy if you study. Most notes come directly from the book.
Pretty easy class. Everything is straight forward in the class.
Straight forward class. An interesting teacher with a tremendous background. Really smart, but laid back and helpful.
Very good teacher, knows what shes talking about and makes the class intresting. Exams are very easy and no attendance policy. Great class to take!
Great Class, Great teacher. You can tell she enjoys teaching and although she makes you work hard you will really learn a lot.
She is the best teacher I have ever had for criminal justice. Any class that she is teaching, you should take it. She is great and very helpful. She makes you engage in the learning and that is the best way to learn I think. She relies on her notes and experience, more than she relies on the book. I love her because she has helped me alot. Take Her
GREAT teacher definitely take this class
This woman is by far the biggeest **** I have ever encountered at UNCC. She will make you look like a complete idiot if you don't know the answer to a question. She is also very manipulative, if you complain to the dept. chair about her rudeness, she will turn it around and make you look like the bad guy. What a ****!!!
Even when not majoring/minoring in criminal justice, her class is very interesting. Her tests are very clear and she gives you all the info you need in her reviews. Very good teacher with a great drive to teach criminal justice.
better keep your options to yourself unless yours are the same as her's. In debates against her option she takes personally. Tests are pretty hard and she counts off for grammar errors. lol If your willing to suck up to her you'll do fine but if not best avoid her.
She thinks fast and speaks faster. She's a former D.A. so she knows what she's talking about. TIPS: study! Review the book and the lecture notes (they pretty much go hand in hand). A lot of people in this class aren't CJ majors and if they're not being respectful, she'll call them out. Just be ready to move with a quick pace.
definitely another Nancy Grace. The cj chair should be held by this "breathe of fresh air from California"
Professor Nicolaides is awesome! I love her energy and the way she teaches. For shy folks, she does call on you in class but hey you are there to learn. Class is not as bad as some folks have said it is. Class is only hard if you do not read the material. Overall, you will learn alot and do not get discouraged. Take her!
This professor was above and beyond the status quo. For the most part I have been unimpressed with the enthusiasm, intellect and in-depth knowledge of most UNCC professors. She has been my first exception to this comment. Not only is she a former corporate attorney in Washington DC, she is down-to-earth in her teaching & makes the class interesting
Wonderful woman and teacher. I am taking her again next semester. She only picks on students who are rude and disrupt her lecture. Easy A if you attend class or read the book. Very straight forward with exams. Share a book because it's not a necesity.
Are we all honestly talking about the same professor. This lady is a piece of work. I would agree w/ the below comment that if you don't agree w/ her keep your comments to yourself. If she doesn't like you she will make it known. Be prepared to answer questions in comments. She is not willing to work w/ a person even when it's as serious as about t
Very interesting and great class. She knows this stuff inside and out, and makes class very interesting. Most notes come straight from the book in case you miss. Tests are very easy if you study. Really enjoyed the class.
I took all the classes she taught until I graduated this December. She is so awesome, I love her. Whenever I needed help, she was always there. Whoever has something bad to say ABOUT HER, they are just hating because they recieved the grade they deserved. You have to earn you grade. She is fair and she knows her stuff. I recommend her for everythin
I've had Ms. Nicolaides for 4 classes and plan to take her again in the fall. She is AMAZING and a definite must have if you plan on attending law school. She makes class interesting, fun, and she is very knowledgeable and approachable. Tests are easy if you go to class and study for them. Would definitely recommend her for anyone!
Love Her!!
Great Teacher... Knows her stuff... Lots of experiance and stories
she is so enthusiastic and loves interacting with the class talking about things like the micheal vick case. just an all around phenomenal teacher.
i took her for Criminal Law and it was a great class. For those of you wanting to pursue law school i would strongly suggest taking her. You'll discover if your cut out for it or not. Be prepared to read and study like never before. Overall you will learn a ton. ENJOY!
She is a great teacher and she keeps the class interesting because she has a lot of experience herself...I had her once already and do plan to take two more of her classes. Take notes and go to the class before the test because she tells you what to review...you should do well.
She is amazing! She is both my teacher and advisor. I seriously look for her class and just worry about the timing lter. If you show to class you don't really need the book. She practically spoon feeds you but leaves you wanting to learn more outsie of class.
I took this class just because I needed to fill my schedule and it ended up being my favorite! She is very enthusiastic and a wonderful teacher. Her test are right from the notes and she tells you EXACTLY what is going to be on the test. Dont really need the book except for maybe the cases! Take her classes!
She is the best!!! What an amazing lady who all would totally enjoy.
Any class I get a B in I find really hard. Easy C though for anyone. Three tests and one paper. I would not take her hard because I prefer not to try hard and you have to in this class. Take an easier professor.
GREAT TEACHER, very enthusiastic, and makes the class interesting. Its important to take good notes! Come to class though, cause I got A's on all my tests, but got a B in the class cause of missing all the pop quizzes!!
Had her for Intro to Criminal Justice. She was great. All you have to do is take good notes in class and study those for the test. She does give pop quizzes randomly at the beginning of class, but you can miss 2. Overall she is great, you really learn and shes so excited about what she teaching that the class never gets boring.
Very nice lady, and very enthusiastic about class and the material. I never thought I would enjoy a class like this, but she completely proved me wrong. Make things very interesting, everything in class is on test, and gives review guide.
One of the few professors that I can honestly say, is an excellent professor!!
she is by far the best teacher i have ever had. she lets you know when she is going to have pop quizzes. She is very knowledgeble about everything and she tells stories of her past life of being a DA. She is the teacher who made me want to major in Crimnial Justice. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER!!!! SHE IS GREAT!!!
VERY INFORMATIVE
the comment under me is obviously from a slacker, this woman knows how to teach and she cares about her students. She wants you to make an effort. I am not always an A student and because of dedication I made As in all her classes. If you go to class, do what is asked and participate (give your opinion no matter wat you think) you will do fine.
Awesome. She is one of the very best professors at UNCC. Always willing to help if you do not understand. Just a great experience overall.
Professor Nicolaides is THE BEST at teaching this class as many others have indicated. She is a Lawyer and as stated before she is ALWAYS willing to help. Attendance in class is a MUST if you want to make an A. She remembers Students who sit near the front. Test are all multiple choice and straight from PP and tell you what to study for exam!
Great class very informative. Good professor. She will tell you everything you need during class. If you attend class you will do well.
I took several classes form her and got "A" in all of them, she is very passionate about her subject and that 's what makes this class interesting; always willing to help!
Inspired me to become a CJUS major! Extremely knowledgeable of the subject and always willing to help. Thoroughly enjoyed her class - I suggest attending class, it is certainly worth your time.
She is very smart and has alot of experience. She is a good teacher and you will learn alot. However, I found her to be somewhat pushy. She doesn't like the word "no." It seems she is used to getting her way. Just be aware of that before you take one of her classes. Be ready to work. This is not an easy "A."
I love her! She's a great professor and loves what she does. She is very intelligent. Her exams are not hard at all. She tells you exactly what's going to be on them.
This teacher is brilliant!!! She is very helpful and teaches you a lot. She is not the easiest but is so passionate at what she teaches. Her powerpoints are a great study guide for her tests. The information and what she actually teaches is so interesting. She knows her stuff and anytime you are in need of help, she's there!
GREAT TEACHER...!!!!!! Had her for investigative law and loved it, great class about the law, job of lawyers, court system, etc...,She definitely kno what shes talking about and is passionate about it, plus she use to be a prosecutor so she's very knowledgable about everything and tells about her experiences.
Ms. Nicolaides is by far my FAVORITE teacher in the Criminal Justice department. She is extremely friendly and helpful, she is very clear on what will be on exams, and is always open to different interpretations of things. If you want to learn something, take her classes!
by far one of the best. she makes you think, but its definitley good. makes the topics interesting.. very great. power point presentations which are posted online
Professor Nicolaides is the most energetic, intelligent and helpful professor I've ever had; attendance isn't mandatory, but her lectures are always interesting and entertaining; be sure to take a class with her before you leave UNCC! I never used my textbook -- her lectures give all the info needed for the exams
Professor Nicolaides is very passionate about CJ. She enjoys discussions with students and keeps class interesting. If you're not paying attention, she'll call on you-love her. If you go to class, you'll get a B, if you read and go to class, you'll get an A. Thoroughly enjoyed her class.
As a retired DA, this woman know's what she's talking about. She makes the class very interesting even at 8am. As long as you respect her, she'll respect you. And make sure to take advantage in her extra credit opportunities...they're good and they actually do help. I'm planning on taking her law class too.
She is a very smart and passionate lady. I enjoyed her class. Even though it was at 8 am, she did a very good job of keeping us all awake. My only downfall is her tests are hard. Not tricky, but if you don't read the book you won't do too well on the tests. Her pop quizzes are easy 100's though, helped my grade a lot.
Prof Nicolaides is one of the best professors I've ever had. She's extremely knowledgable and passionate about her subject. If you attend the lectures and read the book there is no reason that you shouldn't have an A. She's very clear in her expectations and very helpful if you go to office hours. Defiantly take her class!!!
Nicolaides knows her stuff! She used to be a federal prosecutor. Attendance not required, but the lectures are very interesting. Tests include material from the lecture and from the book. Her lectures aren't boring. She will call you out on having headphones in, texting, or playing computer games, though.
Prof. Nicolaides is the best professor in the CJ department, hands down. She is super invested in her students, extremely smart, and very passionate about teaching. If you respect her and take the class seriously you will love her courses and learn a lot.
Great teacher. Just read and attend class for pop quizzes. Study of course.
Great professor! I really enjoyed her class. She is super smart. It was really an honor for me to take a class with Dr. Nicolaides
One of the best professors I have ever had. The class wasn't hard. Go to class, listen and you will pass you don't even have to take notes. Buy the book you will need it to study. Go to class attendance is mandatory. There are 2 tests a paper and a final. This was an 8am and she managed to make me NOT hate my life. LOVED THIS CLASS.
IF YOU DONT LOVE THE COURT SYSTEM AS MUCH AS THIS WOMAN, DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER COURSES! She continuously tries to drill her thoughts into you & seems to refuse to accept the fact that some students are taking her class just for credit & aren't that interested in the court system! WARNING: DONT TAKE UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO SWEAT FOR YOUR GRADE!
She is a great professor but be prepared to work hard for your grades. She assigns a reflection paper which you are required to visit the Federal Court house as well as the Mecklenburg country court house. Do not miss class because she takes attendance and learns everyones name by second week. She was one of the toughest professors I have had.
One word: AMAZING. She cares so much about her students and she is so knowledgeable about what she teaches. She makes 8am classes not so bad! Her class is extremely interesting, and she puts a lot of effort into her teaching. She excepts her students to put in effort. No problem if you go to class and pay attention.
I honestly don't know how she has this high of a rating. She is NOT "that great". She was a slow grader and not very helpful. Her version of a study guide is NO HELP, it was way too broad. I received a B because there weren't enough graded assignments to help your test scores. There's 3 test and a court case, that's it. I did the extra credit.
If you like learning about laws and apply them to our society today then this is the professor for you! I am taking multiple classes with her and I love them all. She is very well respected and use to be a federal prosecutor. She is a tough grader but her test is multiple choice with a 10 point essay! She is also very energetic!
Loved this class! Nicolaides is an awesome professor. Just go to class, take notes, read the chapters and you'll be fine. She tells you everything that's going to be on the exams so passing shouldn't be hard. Also, you're required to do a court paper so you'll have to visit 4 different courts. Don't text in class! She'll call you out.
Super sweet. Lectures are straightforward and interesting. Has exam reviews the class before the exam and will list every topic that will be on the exam. Has a lot of experience and interesting stories.
I love professor Nicolaides. She is passionate about criminal justice. Class is not mandatory but if few people show up, she rewards those who are there. She gives pop quizzes sometimes but only takes the 2 highest grades. She gives a test review before all the exams. The exams are pretty straightforward if you study from the powerpoints and book.
One of my favorite professors at UNCC. Intro to Law was harder than I expected for a 1000 level class, but I can honestly say I have learned so much in this class. I looked forward to coming to class and discussing the material. She is extremely engaging with her students, and I was never bored learning any of the chapters in this class.
Professor Nicolaides is an incredibly intelligent and engaging professor. She wants you to participate in class much more than most professors do. I've never been bored in her class because she brings so many real-world examples into her lectures. I will say that her tests are a bit challenging if you did not study well.
Professor Nicolaides is very engaging and knowledgeable on the information. Great teacher and great class but your grade is only based on the 2 tests so if you do bad on one your chance of coming back from it is basically none.
Prof Kath is a great teacher and she speaks from experience since she was a federal prosecutor at one point in her life. Pay attention when you go to her class and make sure you study for her exams. 3 - 4 exams, interview paper of a cjus actor, oral presentation with business casual attire. Only thing that will bug you is how wide her eyes get lol
This is not a hard course being it is online b/c of Covid-19. Our book is online so you read and then take mini quizzes & then a chapter test for each chapter. The teacher doesnt communicate w/you. Your grading comes from the online book. There are no zoom lectures it would help if there were. This class wasn't enjoyable, it was more dry.
I took this class in the spring 2021 semester so it was online. Regularly this is a course that is taken in person and it typically comes with a book. During the online session we had 3 flipgrid videos and 3 exams. Most of her lectures were PowerPoint with audio attached. If this class switch back to inperson expect similar assignments and 3 exams.
Shes a nice person, horrible, terrible teacher. Be ready to take your tests on Saturdays.. yep. We only get 24 hours to take the test and its on a Saturday. Shes bad sh*t crazy!!!!!!!!! As if we dont have enough going on during the week shes going to take over our weekends too. AVOID HER!!!!!!!!!! Trust me.
All on Pearson Revel. Quizzes were found on quizlet. Get good grades on the quizzes and decent grades on her exams youll pass no doubt. She offered extra credit points on final exam, that was fairly easy. I would take her again. Interesting class overall.
All assignments were on Pearson Reveal and were super easy. Some weeks you may have to do a flipgrip video which was easy too. There was 1 midterm and 1 final which was easy and we could use our notes on. Super easy and was a blessing since I was graduating. Nice professor and easy grading citera.
I remember taking her class(es) several years ago as a CJ major It took a little to get used to being called out and elaborating on answers, but it sure motivated me to be ready for each lecture! Highly recommend if you excel in critical thinking skills and class participation.
This entire class is taught by revel. There are no lectures to listen or read. Your grade is composed of revel modules, flipgrid posts, and 2 exams. The modules and the exams are easy, but the grading of the flipgrid videos can be meticulous. She takes off points if your video sounds too "prepared."
I believe that professor Nicolaides does truly care about her students, but her class was very difficult. She was my first C in college, and her grades consist of 3 tests- if you do bad on the first one it is almost impossible to raise your grade. She also provides quizzes for attendance but they do nothing. This is not treated as an intro course.
If you don't go to class and take notes you won't pass, power points are posted but coming to class is way more beneficial, only graded by a few things so if your bomb something its hard to recover. Go to her office hours she's really nice and so so knowledgeable. Definitely best law professor ever.
Professor Nicolaides is one of the best professors I've had. Her lectures are engaging and informative. She's very prepared for class. Be prepared though, your grade is based off of 3 or 4 quizzes and 3 exams. If you enjoy the legal system and reading, this will be completely worth your time. 10/10 recommend.
I would recommend this class if you are interested in Law. However, I will say that this class was INTRO, and the exams and tests did not seem to be that way. This class only had exams, pop quizzes, and two extra credit opportunities (a total of 10 points worth). The exams, in many peoples opinions, were difficult and graded harshly.
Professor Nicolaides' LEGL1100 class is challenging but engaging. The lectures are informative, and she clearly cares about her students. While the grading is heavily test-based, using Unstuck ai and the course textbook can help you succeed. Overall, a worthwhile class for those interested in law.
It was a good class. Do not take this if you want an easy A. You have to study hard for every test. You should also go to class every day because she does pop quizzes throughout the semester. There are only a handful of assignments, 3-4 quizzes and 3 tests.
Prof Nicolaides' class was great. I learned a lot, and my passion for, and interest in law intensified. This class is intense, though, and it really feels like "undergrad law school." Come to class, and study for her tests and you will be fine, but you have to be willing to put in effort. She also does a good job of creating a classroom community.
If you don't actually care about law. and are just looking for an easy class, this class isn't for you. There's a lot of reading but I found most of it interesting and the classes were engaging. Study for your tests way ahead of time and read and you'll be fine
This class was amazing, she is very engaging and you can tell she really cares. There are 3 exams, and one group paper that involves an interview and a presentation but nothing crazy. The class was amazing!!
