focuses too much on the better students(better actors)&offers more help to them. gives out some xtraCredit(writing critiques on plays)...somewhat friendly-depending on mood..

she is quite moody, but helpfull and accomodating as long as you go to class!

She expects you to come to class prepared. She enjoys watching actors work and is willing to give helpful comments for character work. She will extend herself to you for additional rehearsal work.

I had Kathleen two separate times for each class. Thanks to spending almost a whole year with her, I could write the book on Kathleen. As others mentioned, yes, she can pick out favorites, but it is not hard to get on her good side. She is very helpful if you express an interest to learn the stuff.

I guess she's improved maybe after reading these comments. i wasn't one of her favorites, but she still helped me a lot. she's very approachable and easy to work with. Get to class on time. memorize your lines. make bold choices.

Comment below is illogical. She does the best she can to make the beginning acting class a great intro. Go see two plays to experience what acting is like first hand. Good. Buying the book- bad. Barely used it. She helps with acting tips and positively encourages everyone (even the verballly handicapped). Like most classes there was some fluff

I thought taking a theater class would be stupid but Kathleen changed my opinion. This class is super easy. The only thing is there is A LOT of homework but it is not hard. She is very helpful! She allows students to submit their papers to her ahead of time to get feed back before submitting the final copy. TAKE HER you won't regret it :)

her class wasn't bad at all. i'm not a fan of theatre but the course didn't put me to sleep. she knows what she's talkin about.

i didn't really have an interest in the class before i took it. My friend told me about T.A. and recommended that I take it. In the end, The class ended up being fun and I learned things about theatre. I also enjoyed watching some of the school plays, which is mandatory for the class. :) In my opinion, it's an easy A, just do the work and study.

She's pretty lenient, but sometimes she can be in your face about things. Just know good excuses. Pretty interesting if you go to class. Projects were fun.

Basically, just show up to class and do the work. Pretty straightforward stuff. If you put effort into doing the work, you're pretty much set. Some group projects, but overall, a pretty cool class to take.

Pretty interesting class. We do some crazy but fun exercises with her. They're supposed to help with your voice and I guess they kind of do. Overall, the class was fun. Just make sure u do your work and DO NOT BE LATE! She can't stand people who come late to class. Her thing is, as long as you tolerate her rules, she'll tolerate you as the student

Kathleen was an awesome teacher, and she knows a lot about theater! If you are looking to get involved with SJSU theater, defenitely take a class with her.

She knows a lot about theatre and enjoys getting everyone involved with the class. She does assign quite a few assignments on D2L so make sure to keep up with them by checking D2L often. Very fun class.

Awesome teacher! Knows a lot and very passionate about theater.I could tell she was disappointed in those that were reluctant to participate in acting activities. She is very proud of you when you open up and put on a performance, so don't be afraid! Don't act like you're too cool to be there, and you think it's easy GE. It is but show some respect

Attendance mostly mandatory but not always. This is different from a typical acting class in that it focuses more on movement than dialogue. As long as you can make your stuff interesting (even if it doesn't make sense) she'll love it.

She loves what she does and really wants you to learn and participate to show what theatre is all about. A little much online work for a theatre class.

The class is very easy! Most of her assignments are due online at Canvas and the exercises done in class are relaxing and simple. Easy class for GE area E. Requires breaking out of your shell and a bit of memorization skills.

Really good teacher plus an easy class. A few acting, a few blogging, and sometimes you needa watch the play and write the review for it. Strongly recommend if ur looking for a easy class.

Excellent and supportive

The instructor is fair and offers many opportunities to turn in work late or turn in rough drafts for help. Many in this class did not read the plays assigned and therefore it was difficult for her to teach the class. Highly recommend.

A great class where you are actively involved in the material. No exams, no quizzes, no papers. Yet I learned so much in this class.

Even though this class was a living nightmare at a certain point of the semester; It's a good class to bring you GPA up. This course can be very easy as long as you read or just skim through the plays. Questions on the exams are not tricky and nor time consuming as long as you understand the plays.

Made this lower GE course interesting and pertinent to new directions that theater is taking including Hip Hop Theatre, global theatre, and spoken word. Great teacher and great class.

I had her for Voice and Movement for the Actor. It was a fun class. There were a couple essays, but they were fairly easy. As long as you give some effort and don't completely slack off, you should be fine. A lot of fun activities.

The instructor is helpful, willing to accommodate personal issues and most importantly, know her subject and uses interesting and fun exercises to teach it to the class.

A very good teacher. She may accommodate certain homework with the class' life schedule. Very nice, helpful lady. Everything is clear. Nothing is hard unless you don't do the reading. I got an A+ in the class. Easy.

Every class is a gem. She knows her stuff and brings out creativity in students that is jaw-dropping. It is also perfect for non-theatre majors and a wonderful change from the other classes that require reading and scantrons. Final project was fun and trippy, requires lots of rehearsal and collaboration. Some essays to write but difficult.

Really great teacher and interesting, provocative plays. She will work with you to help you succeed. That includes flexibility with due dates. Is fair with all students and gives excellent feedback on written work. Grades work promptly. Would definitely take a class from her again.

TA 5 was one of the best courses that I have taken at SJSU. Not hard and the professor gives each student individual attention.

Loved her, but not necessarily this class. This class was an intro to acting, and we mostly did voice and body movement no real acting. However she was wonderful, super passionate and nice and really engaged. Always had so much fun in this class, got me out of my comfort zone! Take her if you can, especially for a more advanced acting course.

This professor is very accomodating and is willing to be flexible. She offers alternative assignments and there a not much reading. Yes, she doesn't like tardiness but in this 9 AM class that is to be expected. Great class, great instructor

Kathleen teaches many GE classes and is always willing to go above and beyond to help students succeed. This was an easy GE class but you needed to be there and for some students that was an issue. Not her fault. Plays fair but expect you to engage in the material. No textbook, no exams - just be there!

A teacher who uses fun teaching methods to help non-actors be comfortable and successful and is always accommodating student's needs and concerns. Awesome!

The instructor always posted changes to the schedule on line. She also had a disclaimer that notifies students of those changes. You really have to work at it to do poorly in this class. Give the lady a break, she was upfront about losing her father and other personal concerns.

A professor who went beyond what is expected including extending assignment due dates and helping students through personal problems. I would highly recommend and her knowledge and ability to communicate on the subject is awesome!

An excellent class for someone new to acting. The instructor is patient and passionate about her students and the subject.

In the beginning we did a lot of warm up activities to open up. We had 2 partner scene which the first one is easy the second is a bit more challenging due to memorization. The final performance is a monologue. She would get upset when people wouldnt show up and had some mood swings but most fairly nice and easy.

Kathleen is one of those teachers who truly cares about the success of her students. She will challenge you, but as a way to help improve your critical thinking abilities. I am glad I took her class because I was able to learn about the daily lives of people through contemporary plays. I really recommend taking this class!

I loved Kathleens class! She is a very nice person and when you like theatre, acting, etc you will love this class. It is extremely important to be present every class and be on time though, so try not to skip it! But it is always very fun with her and she doesn't have any quizzes, tests, or hard exams. I highly recommend her class!

Excellent instructor. Helped me through a personal crisis and enabled me to finish the semester successfully! Great class, fairly straightforward, and you learn a lot!

She was really cool in the beginng, but as the semester progressd, she would get a bit snappy and call people out and put them on the spot. It's an easy class to take, even if you're not a theatre major. You read plays all semester and each play has a group presentation. No tests/quizzes - only a final. I recommend.

The professor went out of her way to help the students be successful in a very difficult semester. I would highly recommend this course. Interesting play that reflect the times we live in.

A great class to take for GE credit. Fun and easy but she also brings out the actor even in us non-actors. A really nice, caring professor.

She is a very nice professor. The plays we had to read were interesting and usually written by minorities. 2 papers based on different plays, a two-part final paper, a group project/presentation based on a play, misc. assignments, and extra credit opportunities. She accepted my late paper until the end of the semester. I would take her again.

I think the more you participate in this class the nicer she is to you. I am not a theater kid and she was really nice and easy grader. You do have to read like 5 plays and write like 3-4 response essays on them , they're only 500 words. One big presentation, I suggest you get out of the way early on.

Shes very easy to talk to and will adapt her lectures to what students need more help with

im taking her class and assignments are pretty light and just the right amount. She is also very understanding and responds fast.

Really easy class! There were a lot of response essays + quizzes each week, but they're not that hard. The final is a paper about a performance review of a play on campus which is pretty easy.

Beware if you have social anxiety and what not. I'm personally not the most social person and this class was easy. There is no homework except for some rehearsals outside of class which to be honest, you don't even have to do and she is very lenient on grading acting performances however attendance is a must for sure.

Kathleen has made accommodations for me and many others this semester. She knows her stuff and is encouraging in every way. Take her class and become more confident.

I went through a lot of personal difficulties this semester and this professor was helpful and really cared (even though it was an online/asynchronous course). The material and organization of the course was easy to follow and complete. I cannot recommend her enough!

it was a very easy class, just make sure you go to the plays that are required and read the scripts. overall, shes a very easy grader and as long as you do the assignments you should get full credit

I was practically forced to get this class my first semester since I had a late registration and the classes were full. I wasn't excited about being in a class with theater kids. However, Kathleen's class over the course of the semester was really relaxing and enjoyable, even as an introvert. I highly recommend for anyone to take this class.

What a GE perfect class. Easy but you learn and have space to be creative. She is inspiring and flexible!

Absolutely amazing professor! As long as you treat this class with integrity and respect, you will have a good time. You might be uncomfortable getting in to the acting if it's your first time (it was mine too), but nobody in the class is there to judge you. Just have fun with it!

Very kind and understanding! Expect to read from the text, watch videos, and write short essays using what you've learned; discussion posts are prevalent too. The assignments may be overwhelming (especially during the winter session), but you can always ask for an extension.

Easy online class with interesting assignments. Attendance is mandatory but grading is lenient. Unstuck study proved helpful for quiz prep. Overall, a solid course that's worth taking.
