Funny, tries to relate, go to class and to the reviews, take notes & study READ
such a nice lady, knows her stuff, cares about you

she is funny and makes the class go by smooth, very helpfull

Very funny! Makes class go very smoothly
really nice lady, the class is WAY too hard
makes an extremely hard class easier, will go out of way to make students understand, make sure go to all lectures, she set's the tests up to make students study and suceed
Clarifies difficult material extremly well. Wish that i could take more classes with her. The only complaint that i have is that on occasion she goes a little slowly.
I really liked taking these classes /w her-wish I could take more classes /w her. The class just has a lot of information to know-but she does a very good job of teaching it.
You'll wanna rip your hair out by the end of this class. Extremely boring class! She also has a weird voice, which gets on my nervs and i've talked to others and they can't stand it either. Find a different BIO class!!!!!!!!!!
Kathy was the best teacher ever! her classes were hard, with a ton to know and learn, but she explained things well, and made it possible for anyone to succeed as long as they put work into it. She's very personable, and a sweet lady. I'd recommend her science classes for sure
Ok course. I learned a little of human anotomy. She just went through the motions most of the time with poor lecture material, but some interesting archival footage.
She is a sweet lady! She explains things really well! If you have to take bio take it with her!
"All you are is a bag of dirty water" She is an awesome prof. So funny, witty, and her voice is unique not annoying. Really make it what you want.
Very intense class, a ton of material, but Kathy went out of her way to help me during her office hours and she was the only reason I was able to get a B in the class. Go to her for help at the beginning if you have difficulty. Completely worth your time! Thanks Kathy!
I love Kathy! Her classes are always very demanding and go over a ton a material but they are never impossible. She is very helpfull and very nice. Yeah, her voice is a little annoying at first but you get over it. She is definitly the best prof I have ever had.
Kathy is a wonderful teacher. While her classes are challenging (Anatomy and Physiology are both a lot of material... that's not her fault), she explained and taught things very well. Her goal is to help students learn, not to "weed them out," like the Anatomy teachers at both KVCC and GVSU. I got an A in both of her classes!
Good teacher, gets off track with story telling, does have a weird voice but you'll get over it. Lots of material to cover which your going to have to take the time to learn if she can't cover it all. You must put the effort in or you'll drop. You gotta know your stuff for these classes no way around it. Lab is easier then lecture I thought.
Perhaps my favorite professor at WMU. Very, very effective if you listen, take notes, and attend her study groups (and read of course).
shes nice by trying to help people out when their grades arent good, but her tests and quiz's are worded way to difficult. this class shouldnt be as hard as she makes it out to be. It also seems that she thinks this is the only class that people have, because she expects you to read at least 2 chapters a week, and study everynight.
Very good teacher. Approachable, nice, honest, and also uses different teaching techniques to make sure she affects different type of learners. Tests on only what has been discussed.
I would never recommend this class to anyone, her tests are extremely hard and way too many words. No matter how hard I studied it never seemed to help me. I'd stear clear!
Awesome teacher!!!! Fun personality! Easy to follow...
This woman CAN TEACH! I will agree that she worded her tests and quizes differently that you would expect, but as long as you take your time reading the questions you will be fine. She is awesome one on one if you ever don't understand something. As long as you attend lecture and take good notes, you will be fine.
She is a fine teacher and her exams aren't too bad but if you don't know the material you can't just blindly guess and get it right either. My biggest pet peeve with her was that she would often tell us to read chapters from the book and then leture about them and tell us somethings just slightly differently than the book...just a bit frustrating.
Kathy's pretty awesome - I really liked her a lot!If you don't understand something ask - She'll fill you in.
Despite what most ppl say i actaully liked how she worded her tests, her quizes were worded a bit more difficult though. the hardest section is the CNS but other parts werent terrible. just study A LOT! the lab potion helps bring up the class grade so go to EVERY LAB SESSION!
Kathy is SUCH an amazing teacher!!! She is great at explaining concepts and making the class fun. The tests are SUPER DOOPER hard..you better know your stuff when you go in on test day or you'll be seeing her again next semester....the lab was REALLY easy! This class was easier than her Anatomy class....
She goes quickly but if you every have a question she has office hours. The test are straight from her notes.
i think she is an excellant teacher and is very helpful and although she goes kinda fast sometimes she is very good about answering all your questions, repeating things, and further explaining things
Shes is an awesome professor!! if you show up to class and the lab you're all set. Shes very intimidating at first, but shes very helpful and very informative!! i love this class!!
She knows the subject really well but is a really mean person. Her exams and quizes, at least in this class were very difficult and even though I got an A, I still hated her.
she'll no doubt make ya nervous at first...but bio is pretty demanding anyway..and she does an awesome job at lecturing well put together notes, but most importantly shes very clear about whats expected of you and quiz and test dates! shes very sweet to you if she knows you care about your performance in her class.
Can explain the material pretty well. Have to study a lot to do well on her test. Her voice can be annoying at times.
Her tests are pretty hard, but she gives study guides and tells you what you need to know. I think she is a prof who really wants you to do well.. she gives a few extra credit quizzes.
She is tough, but is willing to help you through it and definitely knows her stuff!
I've never studied for a class more than biology, but never felt that I've learned more. Tests were right out of the notes, she drew diagrams... I remember being frusterated while in the class, but when I finished I realized that I LOVED it, it was very interesting!
kathy is a wonderful lady and she is very knowledgeable. learn how to write fast and sit up front because her voice is soft and its hard to hear when people shuffle papers around and walk in late. it's not so bad if you actually go to class and read though
I was excited to learn about human phys, but didn't learn much. Requires much time, but results in little knowledge. Lots of people have to take it two or more times. She stays in the classroom while the class evals are filled out. Then, SHE takes them to the office. Knows a lot, but is not good at teaching what she knows.
Great professor, cares about her students. Interesting lecture, funny. Lectures without powerpoint or anything, notes are easy fill-in-the-blank. Very easy content to understand. Goes fast in class. Impossible to cheat on exam if you tried, she takes many precautions.
Onerlinde's tough but she teaches you everything you need to know.
Really sweet. If you come to class and communicate w/ her when you can't be there you will do well. Wants you to understand the material and do well.
She is very clear about everything she teaches, the problem is that there is so much information, it's hard to remember it all. You must study your tail off. She is an amazing teacher who wants you to be the best, therefore she teaches you everything she knows to help you along the way. Hard, but stick it out, it's worth it!
terrible, all she does is give quizzes and tests. screw that b.s she is not helpful at all and she doesn't respond to emails.
A lot of material, but the way she lectures makes it easy to follow. Tests follow study guides, and are taken right from the fill in the blank notes she gives. You have to attend this class regularly though, and really study. A really good professor for this type of class because she knows how to teach and she wants you to do well.
GREAT teacher. she really knows what she is talking about and is very clear about what you have to know. It's a tough class and she teaches it really well.
This class was difficult. I ended up with a CB and I worked my (you know what) off. Science is not my thing though. Anyway, her tests are worded to be tricky. Make sure you know your stuff before you take a test. Come to class and Lab, lab is 1/3 of the grade and can bring up your score a lot. Lectures were a bit boring.
An amazing teacher. The class is challenging and those who didn't do well are mostly students who don't try. She is there to support you ( almost to much) and she really wants everyone to succeed. But just because she wants this does not mean she makes her class any easier. If you work hard and go to class you will do fine!
Awful
Sooo hard
KATHY ROCKS MY SOCKS! She knows practically everything! Don't read the book for lecture, but you need it for lab. GO TO HER SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION LEADER, they give out things that Kathy uses on exams and quizzes that she doesn't pass out. SI is very helpful. Lab is ok. Lecture is amazing, you will learn. Class is time consuming. Study hard!
I love Kathy. She truly wants her students to do well. She teaches difficult material quickly, but she is very clear and if she notices the class getting confused in one area she will make a point to go over it again well. Going to class is definitely mandatory, it is very beneficial. She really does know everything.. u will love or hate her voice.
There is a lot of material to learn. Study consistently throughout each week vs. only in preparation for the exams. TA is helpful in pointing out concise material to study. Get as many points early and through quizzes that are announced well ahead of time..things get harder toward end of semester.
Really hard class, exams were confusing and she tries to trick you with the questions. I would recomend taking phys at KVCC and transfering it to Western.
I would probably buy the book. I didn't use it often, but when I didn't understand something it did help a lot. She's an alright teacher, just has an annoying voice. Also, I sometimes wondered whether she really wanted us to succeed or not... but overall she knows her stuff and communicates it pretty well.
What an experience! She scared my pants off first thing, but she never lived up to her threats. I learned so much and was entertained the whole semester. I would send picture messages to my boyfriend with her crazy outfits and hair!
I had this professor for several classes and man she knows her stuff. You will not do well at all if you don't show up. All of her test questions come from her extensive notes. Get ready to learn a lot! She is very nice and has no problem in explaining things if you go to her office hours. It's a hard class but I loved her!
Go to class, go to lab and make sure you get one of the more experienced lab TA's. Mine was useless, "here are the models and the material, be ready for the test" This is a hard class and make sure you're prepared for it. Dr. O is no joke. She's a good teacher, but you need to put in A LOT of work in her courses.
She is the best teacher I've had at Western. For such a challenging class she keeps things interesting by having a passion for what she is teaching and knows what she is talking about. If you take detailed notes and memorize what she tells you to, you will get an A.
Most obnoxious voice ever. You have to go to class. The way she words her exams and quizzes is very confusing. No matter how much you study for her exam, you will not get an A. Many people have to retake her class.
She is passionate about her teaching and entertaining to listen to. Some people find her voice annoying but I really enjoy it. She's animated when she lectures. Also, she has review sessions available that I highly suggest going to. Her class is easy if you go to lecture and pay attention.
she is really good at throwing in interesting facts that keep you listening and interested. I really enjoyed having her as a teacher.
this is a class that is necessary to study and work hard for, but she is a great teacher who genuinely cares about her students education and I have learned more from her than any other teacher before.
Favorite class, best teacher... human physiology is a LOT of material to cover in a semester so if you want an A you put put in a great deal of effort, Kathy is great, great help in office hours, great lecturer! I took this class a year ago, went through my old notes and still know most of it pretty well which is awesome!!
Great teacher! She really wants you to learn. You have to show up to every class and take notes, but she puts the notes right on the projector for you. I didn't buy the book and still got an A in the class because her notes are so detailed.
Very difficult class. Nice lady. But her voice gave me a headache. The lab is pointless because for an hour we'd be handed a bone and study it then for 2 hours I'd have to listen to wmu's finest fluzies flirt with the lab teacher.
Kathy is a great teacher. She really wants you to do well and understand what she is talking about. I highly recommend her. The class is a bit difficult but make sure to go to lab and do well since it counts as 1/3 of your grade. Lab really goes along with the lecture portion really well. Make sure you study the notes and you will do just fine
Enjoyed material very much; challenging & interesting. She is pleasant, nice, & friendly, but this is a weeder class. The knowledge I walked away with is not reflective of the grade earned.Exams are worded oddly/tricky. She is not easily accessible for help with limited office hours. Staggering #of students repeat to pass or attain a better grade.
She is really hard teacher to understand and there is a lof of going around the subject to get to the point, which gets very flustrating. The TA Danielle is helpful with worksheets and studying. As a professor she makes the tests very wordy also.
Love this lady! Best professor ever! Intelligent, helpful, and cute! Getting an A was easy for me - just go to class, take GOOD notes, and review the notes before the test. Lectures are interesting and Kathy gives many memorable real-life stories to help remember different concepts. Love her!!
It is true; i am so impressed with the teacher and the class - I wrote 2 reviews on her below. :)
She knows what shes talking about. However, the material is very difficult, and the exams questions are confusing. On multiple exams I felt that I did very well and ended up with a C or C+, its a little frustrating. She is ONLY available during office hours, and she never responded to any of my emails. P.S. if its a mandatory course, STUDY DAILY!
I took her anatomy class. I was not a slacker, had an A in the lab, but felt that her tests did not reflect the class well. The tests contained both anatomy and physiology questions even though this was strictly an anatomy class. I had no idea what to study for any of the tests. The tests were not representative of the course packet.
Knows what she is talking about and is very informative. The lab is simple as long as you are able to memorize easily but you should go to at least 1 open lab as well to do well. Tests in lecture are hard, take good notes and study, study, study!
good teacher.
Kathy is a terrible professor. I don't recommend anyone to take her class. She makes her lectures way harder than what they have to be. Anatomy is not that hard of a class, but when taking her, it seems like Hell. Nothing she lectures on are in the test and she tends to make up her own words. (ex: she calls cells a bag)
awful teacher. everything she talked about in lecture did not reflect what was on the exams AT ALL. i had no idea what to study for, the lab is very straight forward but the lecture is hell.
She expects a lot but is a great teacher. Go to class so you don't miss handouts and homework. Usually it's just coloring and labeling. Study the course pack for tests.
Do NOT take this class with Onderlinde. Unfortunately, she is the only professor who teaches Bios 1910 and Physiology but I suggest taking it else where. She is a nice person overall but a horrible teacher. Her exams are very hard and she puts trick questions on the exam. You have to know every little detail that is taught. HORRIBLE NIGHTMARE
Overall, she is an alright teacher. I ended up getting a C. For two of the exams, I didn't study at all and I studied a LOT for the last two and received exactly the same grade on all of them.. so I'm not really sure how you would go about getting an A. Be sure to go to every class and do all the worksheets. Book not needed.
There is a lot of info and it is hard to take it all in. She gives you all the info in outlined notes but the amount of info is almost too much. Her exams are very tough and detailed. She does know her stuff though
She is an amazing teacher but I suggested never miss a class, even though she doesn't take attendance. Everything she says is very important. She knows her subject very well. The quizzes will be easy if you memorized your notes. I took this class on Fall 2012.
Nice woman, very hard class, good luck
She is a good teacher but the class is really tough. I have been doing pretty good on the exams, all it takes is ALOT of hard work and youll be fine. However, for the final she is making us learn a chapter on our own that will make up 20% of it. She hasn't taught a thing about the chapter. It's cumulative. No review. Shes tough.
She is a very nice lady willing to work with you, but only if you put in the effort yourself. She isn't a professor that will give you an easy A. But really, if you are willing to do the work necessary, she will help you.
Extremely hard class. I felt as if anatomy should not have been this difficult. Exams are very wordy. Lab is easy. I would recommend going to open lab at least once a week. Really nice lady though, and she definitely knows what she's talking about. Study, study, study. Be prepared to memorize roughly over 100 terms for 10 point quizzes.
This class is required for the nursing program and it was VERY hard. I literally studied every second I could. Her tests were pretty easy if you studied ALOT, however there were always those few questions which you had to listen for in lecture. Her final was cumulative and very broad however there was 100 questions and about 30 I didn't know, so...
While she comes across as a really tough teacher, if you show any effort of going to her office hours or going to the SI, she will help you out. She really wants her students to do well, and she really knows what she is talking about in lecture. She is a great teacher, and while you might not do phenomenal in her class, you will leave knowing alot
Very good class, Kathy is a great teacher and entertaining to listen to. You will definitely learn a lot in this class but you have to work hard and study a few days in advance for her tests, they are wordy and can be very specific but study hard and know your stuff and you will do fine.
She is a very very smart lady, and knows her stuff. You are required to know the material up and down and side to side. You must study A LOT to do well, so good luck! I would recommend taking this class at a community college if possible.
I would definitely recommending taking this class at a community college or something. Lectures are boring. She's hard to follow. Exams and quizzes are very hard. Labs don't match up with lecture. Just very confusing and more of a hassle than it needs to be. Be prepared to study a lot and hopefully that's enough.
This class is pretty difficult; you definitely need to study a lot to do well on the exams! Try not to miss a class, as the notes are imperative to all studying. She is strict in the classroom, but really friendly and helpful one on one, such as in office hours. I would recommend buying the book to help study for exams. Overall great teacher!
I had mixed reactions with this professor. The best advice I can give is to see her during office hours and avoid her during class. She is hard because she goes into everything so detailed that its too much, to fast. I am an A student and ended up getting a tutor halfway though and still got a C. I found it so frustrating. Not enjoyable at all.
she is the worst teacher i ever took EVER the reason being because she sucks at teaching obviously . DONT TAKE HER
She knows her stuff but her teaching style is not the best. She goes way too fast and still ends up way behind. You do not need the book; Our SI told us that the 1st week. Everything you need to know for the exams and quizzes is straight out of her notes, or course pack. I did ok in the lecture but the lab killed me. The lab is 1/3 of your grade.
The overall class average was a 70%. This instructor was negative, intimidating and produced very difficult tests. I am an A/B student and worked harder than I ever had on a class and only received a C+. Take your classes with someone else or somewhere else!!
No, she isn't going to be very lax with the rules. And yes, she can seem a bit intimidating. But she is fair and is VERY clear as to what you should know and her expectations of her students. Honestly, I loved her class. But one annoying thing is she only uses test/quiz grades, there wasn't any homework for my class. (BIO1100)
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH ONDERLINDE. I have never taken such a hard class before. She expects you to know everything up and down. Her exams are wordy and some are not multiple choice... Worst decision I've made in a while was to take this class with her. I suggest taking it at a community college.
This class is HARD! Kathy really does know her stuff though. I am an A/B student and bummed out that I will be getting a C in this class… EXAMS ARE INSANELY HARD! The way she words them make it almost impossible to even comprehend what the question is asking you. If you can take this at KVCC or somewhere else I would recommend doing so.
I do not recommend this professor to anyone. I emailed her multiple times and every return email (always at least 4 days later) was incredibly Rude and unhelpful. She does not care how you do in her class and repeatedly tells us that she's trying to trick us. She calls people out in class and has laughed at students questions. Avoid the awful Prof
The first time I took this class I made a C, and this time around I made an 88. Basically you need to commit your entire life to this class if you want to make an A-even if you are a straight A student like I was. Go to every class, MAKE FLASHCARDS FOR EVERYTHING, and don't buy the book. She will tell you to read certain chapters but don't.
This is a hard class, and it will be a hard class with any professor. If you make an effort to get help she will do what she can to help. Go to her office hours and open lab. Buy lots of flash cards and make sure you study EVERY DAY. She takes a lot of heat, but is a really good professor.
I will admit, this is not an easy class. You have to dedicate a ton of time studying for this class and lab. You cannot slack, you get the grade that you earn. If you don't try, you won't succeed in here, its that simple. She is very clear with what is expected from you and what is on each and every exam. It is worst the studying in the end
I repeat ! please take this class at a community college. This class is way to time consuming. Some of her test are like 6 or 7 chapters long for just one test and she tells you last minute so really you only have a week to prepare. When you ask for help in regards to notes she will tell you to go to the S.I. You must study everyday no days off!!
Kathy is very clear what she expects and knows what she's talking about. Her tests are very hard and you will not pass if you're not dedicated. Study every day, make lots of flashcards and go to all SI hours and open labs.
As a straight A student, this was the most difficult course I have ever taken. Anatomy with her was bearable, but Phys is way out of left field, with the things you learn in lab being altogether different, her notes especially confusing, and SI being of no help whatsoever.
The majority of the class hates their life in her class. Take the class at community college. I am a 3.7 struggling with the coursework.
You must dedicate your life to this class. I would not skip at all, it's a lot of information that she teachers for someone to skip and still pass with a good grade. Lab will be hard, you have a lot to learn during the week and then a quiz every other week. GO TO OPEN LAB at least once a week. Shes very clear in what she wants, SIMPLE just study.
Kathy knows her stuff I have a lot of respect for her, she expects you to work hard. If you dont put in the effort you wont pass. I would like to say I was "married" to the class for the semester. Take lab on days when you dont have lecture, youll have lab tests every other week. It's terrible if you have a lecture test and lab test on the same day
She knows what she is teaching but teaches at a quick pace. Overall I do not like the way she teaches it is really confusing and her tests are hard. You need to know the material insideout because she words it differently on the examsquizzes. She can be humerus. Be prepared for mental break downs. Not saying its impossible to get good grades.
Kathy give you tons of information and the tests are all about applying your knowledge, very difficult. You must be willing to study a lot. She runs out of time so you have to come back exam week to learn the rest of the chapter
Kathy is really knows her stuff! She is amazing at what she does, and loves what she does. Her material is really hard however, she expects you to know a lot. The stuff she teachers is really important to know, and you will know it for the rest of your life. Study. Study. Study. Study!!!! Start studying as soon as the she gives you the material
She expects you to know the presented material well. The material is not at all hard - just requires time to memorize. There are no processes or mechanisms - it's all memorization. I never went to open lab unless I had a lab exams and got A's on all my exams cause I spent time with it. All it takes is 30-45 min after each class.
I went to every lecture and lab, put in at least 4-5 hours of studying a week, and still had to drop the class. She and I simply didn't hit it off; no matter how many times I went to her office hours, her only advice was, "Study more." I have a 3.88 GPA. I'm now at a neighboring school, with a different professor, and am passing with an A.
Dr. Onderlinde is an excellent professor, but if you take her anatomy or physiology class be prepared to study all semester. She gives you handouts for you to study from, and this is how I passed the class. The book is very useful, however, the course pack is what you really want to study from, and make sure to NEVER use your phone in this class.
lectures are very interesting. Always read the book before the lecture. She is a tough grader. Utilize her office hours because when she sees you applying yourself and trying, she is more than willing to help you out. Don't email her she's not to good with emails.
One of the best teachers I have had the pleasure of having. Knows the information well and will force you to learn. Even if you fail you walk out of that class with so much more than you pay for it. I am very disappointed I cannot have her again. Go to office hours and ask questions in class. She will explain everything! She WILL learn your name!
Excellent professor. You have to learn A LOT to pass the course, but it is worth it. Her lectures are filled with experiences and stories in addition to notes. Test questions are a bit out there, but if you study the coursepack and book thoroughly, you will do fine.
Onderlinde is a hilarious storyteller and a tough but helpful teacher. She expects her students to pay attention and work hard, which is reasonable for such a tough course. Be prepared to do nothing but study all semester - go to her office hours and ask questions. She will remember your name! (Also, go to open lab.)
Sure, Kathy is really knowledgeable in what she is teaching. But, she does not take into account that some students do not have an anatomy background. Don't be surprised to have tests over 8 or more chapters at once.
Did not like this class one bit, but not impossible. You have to really put a good amount of time into learning the material if you want a good grade.
She moves through information so fast it is hard to grasp and fully understand it. she likes to get off on tangents as well. she could be talking about one thing and end up on an entirely different topic by the end of class. she also gets behind on the syllabus and throws tests and quizzes in whenever she wants. TAKE AT COMMUNITY COLLEGE!!!
Kathy is a very knowledgable teacher. Her tests are hard and I recommend you memorize all of the coloring assignments she gives you. Go to class and go to open lab and you will be fine!
Bad, bad, bad professor. Way too much work for a 2000 level class. If you take this class, it will be a bad semester! Not helpful during office hours or over email. Expect to re-take this class.
Expects perfect memorization for her exams and picks on small details mentioned in lectures for multiple choice questions. Not easy by any means, and while you may be able to get through her class first time you will have to work very hard to do so especially if you have difficulty memorizing things.
Onderlinde is one of my favorite professors to date. I've never learned more in a class than in human anatomy and now human physiology. Her class is not easy though, expect to work for your grade. She always knows what she is talking about and is a very respectable professor, but she is a little scary. Definitely don't skip class and expect to pass
