Interesting class, but tends to play favorites with students she likes. A lot of reading, but the material isn't that bad. Prefers participation.
She is an awesome teacher. She gives a lot of work, but as long as u don't slack off, your straight. She tries to help u as much as she can, but u have to ask for it. The tests are fair and the presentation is easy. Just don't slack off!!!!!!!!!!!
She loves what she is doing, tries to have as many as possible class discussions, gets mad if nobody talks. Quizzes are easy if you read. Midterm was easy if you read. Final was hard as hell, even if you read. Presenation easy 4.0. Good Teacher..
Awful teacher, had no direction with her discussions. Don't take this class as a blow off because you have to read ALOT! There are lots of quizzes but no attendance grade.
Great teacher, very knowledgeable in the topic. I actually wanted to go to her class.
Good professor, very interested in what she's teaching. Expect a lot of reading, don't take her if you're looking for a blowoff. She doesn't have an attendance grade but DOES take attendance, so watch the absences...random quizzes are easy as long as you did the reading.
Dr. Pfeiffer is a great professor who has a great passion for her subject matter and it shows in her teaching. She is enjoys particaption and welcomes it. She does except you to read the material and be ready to discuss it...so do it! You can get a lot out of the class if you put into it. HELPFUL!!
Awesome professor, one of the best. Enthusiastic, thrives on class discussion and class is fun to go to. I thought grading was fair, very easy tests (if you show up to class) and a few short papers. Only downfall, is a lot of historical info that sometims shortened discussion of the actual text.

I felt like i got a loke of GLB and alcohol propaganda instead of english.
She has a Ph.D and wants to make absolutely sure you know it. If you're willing to repeat everything she says all semester, you should pass, but be prepared for vague tests and spastic grades. You will be downgraded if the person next to you sucks up more than you do. Avoid this professor.
I HATE english classes, but this professor made it tolerable! She's really nice and always willing to help outside of class. It's not a blow-off class, but it isn't a gen. ed that will destroy your gpa.
Attend class regulary, participate in lectures, read the material... think about the material. It's really not all that hard, and enjoyed both classes immensely. She is very insightful, hardworking, and knowledgeable. If you want EDUCATION, you want this professor.
So excited about the material, great insights, tests not too hard, but make sure you read b/c there is weekly quizzes over the readings but they are EXTREMELY easy..i def. would take her again!
Going to this class was worst than going to the dentist on a Saturday morning. She made tests/quizzes very difficult and graded based on how others did answered (the best gets the most points). Very unfair and absurdly hard exams. She will like you if you kiss up enough.

The teacher is very knowledgable and you will learn some interesting facts but it was also very difficult. I just barely made it through the class and I did all of the reading and studied like crazy for the tests. This class requires a lot of time and effort.
Dr. Pfeiffer is one of the best professors that Ou has to offer. She is very knowledgeable about her subject and it shows. She is very fair in her grading and treats all students with respect, but you must do the same. You will not pass the class unless you read the material and do what is asked of you. Very approachable if you have any questions a
This prof has grace, wit and poise. She teaches a real university course for real university students. If you perform as a student you'll do well. If you want to be force-fed an education, take someone else. This is a great teacher.
Professor Pfeiffer was the best professor I've ever had. She is passionate about English, teaching, and compassionate towards her students. She understands that not everyone does the reading or shares the same ideas, and she amends her syllabus in order to provide each student an opportunity to succeed. She is a mentor as well as a scholar.
Professor Pfeiffer is an almost breath-taking amazing professor. She has a love and enthusiasm for her subject that just amazes me. I have taken her two semesters in a row and will take her again. She makes an effort to know her students and truly cares. very fair grader, fun class discussions and interesting reading material. I recomend her to all
Just read and participate and you will do really well.
She is simply a great professor. If you are looking for an easy grade or to get nothing out of your education, don't take her. But if you are a serious student who enjoys literature, she is second to none. She expects alot out of her students but gives alot in return. One of the best classes I have had at OU.
Professor P is great and she really cares for her students, she is very understanding but this is not to say that you will not work in her class because you will, she expects a lot from her students like many english professors, she wants to see a mind at work.
Prof. Pfeiffer did a fantastic job teaching tough material. Her creative approaches to class discussion made Faulkner,Stevens, and Warren (to name a few) exciting and accessible. I love that she doesn't shy away from difficult lecture topics as well...any prof that will devote lectures to Saussure or New Criticism is amazing in my book! Loved it.
One can really tell she knows a lot about literature. I found out how little I knew of the subject and never could fully grasp the complex ideas. New Criticism was beyond the compass of my abilities and, honestly, more than I cared to know about. But for those who are truly in love with the subject and highly intellectual, KP is a great choice.
New Criticism and signifier/signified rocked my socks off!! I loved this class and Pfeiffer is a great professor! She loves what she is doing and wants her students to, as well.
She is extremely accessible and displays an intense love for the subject. New criticism is fantastic! In particular, the inclusion of outside current events (i.e.:Oprah...don't get me started) helped to show the relevence and boost interest in class. If you are up to the challenge, take this course.

She definately plays favorites and if you are on her bad side forget about doing well. Unfortunately this takes away from the class as a whole. I have seen her be very RUDE to other students and she obviously has a difficult time being professional. She allows her personal feelings to take over.
This professor is an excellent teacher and one of the better ones I've had a Oakland so far. She does not play favorites, all she asks is that you engage the literature enough so that the class can have a good discussion about it. I would definitely recommend this professor to other students interested in pursuing the field of English literature.
good professor. do not miss too many classes b/c she gives out pop quizzes which will effect your grade.
Ok, let me set the record straight; this prof is one of the most interesting, comical and enrapturing professors I've ever had. She invites class participation and commentary for class discussions. I wouldn't recommend skipping classes because she gives pop quizzes on reading assignments, but also because you're missing a great lecture.

One of the best professors I've ever had! She's extremely enthusiastic about her subject and the enthusiasm is contagious; the discussions that happen in her class are amazing! Her classes are not blow-off; you have to work, but she's always willing to help her students and answer questions. You will learn a lot in her classes, she's amazing!
Great Professor! (ENg 224) Class participation is part of your grade but its easy as long as you follow her reading schedule. Pop quizzes, on reading, easy 10 pts. No hidden questions. Test not to bad if study what tells you. Great teacher who wants her students to have fun and understand and do well!!
I would never normally go on and rate a Professor but I have graduated from OU this winter and this was one of my final classes. As I find myself awaiting my new job as a 9th grade teacher I will certainly NOT teach as this Professor had. If she has a grudge against you-BEWARE! She will give you a bad grade.
She is an excellent professor. One of the best Oakland has, if you are hardworking and care about your education. She is enthusiatic about what she teaches but feeds off of classroom participation. You must go to class, talk, and be involved. Ask questions. Be prepared for a great learning experience!
she has random unannounced quizzes but you'll be ok on those with sparknotes. her tests are REALLY hard. i read all of the books and still didn't ace the tests by any means. you get credit for participating in class, though.
Outwardly liberal (politically). Chooses a small selection of "American Literature." 3 tests-relatively easy. Participation is 20% of your grade, so you have to talk or else your grade will suffer. The books/poetry she chooses aren't very good. Take good notes so you can do well on the tests. Gives random quizzes, so attendence is important.

I think we had all of 3 tests, but their all a mix of short answer, short answer and essay, which can be difficult. I read everynight and still didn't pass the class. Try and take this with someone else.
Professor Pfeiffer is amazing!! TAKE HER!! She ties together so many interesting cultural notes into her discussion that the class flies by and you have a great time. What's the relationship between Bugs Bunny, Eminem and American lit? She'll tell you...read the materials and participate in class and you'll do great. Her enthusiasm beats all!!
im not sure why there is a smiley face next to her name. hard class and hard teacher.
Professor Pfeiffer is an amazing educator and one of Oakland’s best. English Majors beware: She will make you fall in love with your major all over again! She has high expectations and she is very clear about what they are so with hard work one can achieve success. Professor Pfeiffer is: Intelligent, Interesting, Fair, Fun, Realistic, Reliable and
I read every page of every book and NEVER missed a single class. I could have studied more, but I received a 2.2 in her class. I speculate I was marked down for txting when I was using my phone for time. I once came in 10 minutes late and failed a quiz I read a lot for. She is fun and informative, but an unfair grader if you ask me.
UGH! do not take this class with her she is unnecessarily hard and plays favorites! you cant miss any class because she will hold it against you...SO many popquizzes (as in 2 a week), horrible books, hardest grader even if you read and come to class. 4th yr at oakland...worst prof i've ever had!
If you are an English major and leave Oakland without taking her class you have really missed out. Her enlightening pedagogical style is surpassed only by her vast subject knowledge and the passion with which she conveys it. Anyone who doesn't appreciate her probably doesn't truly care about engaging his/her mind in the classroom.
ok first of all, whoever that is writing good things about her are her favorites. she plays favorites! u also HAVE participate everyday or she hates you. will call u out on using your phone or even talking in class. she give pop quizzes like its her job, and if u get on her bad side watch out. all of her books are also about women (shes a feminist)
Prof Pfeiffer is amazing! She's one of the nicest professors I've ever had and she is totally understanding of students' hectic lives. She's also very forgiving if you had some sort of emergency and couldn't get something in on time. She doesn't play favorites, she's a fair grader, and she's funny. Take her if you're an English major!
She is amazing! English majors will love her. She's incredibly nice, very smart, and funny. She's very understanding and forgiving if you had an emergency and couldn't get an assignment in. Very fair grader. Overall one of the best. Don't take her if you're just looking for an easy English credit, but if you're actually interested you'll love her!
Extremely great teacher! If you come to class you'll do good on her tests. Everything gone over in the lectures will be useful. Take her if you get the chance.
This is the only class I've ever failed, this class SUCKED. If you don't participate every day you're grade is SCREWED; and if you play a sport don't plan on missing class because she does not give a crap. Tests are OK unless you're on her badside, in which case you'll have the same answer wfw as someone else but recieve half the points they did.
best teacher i've had so far. very interesting. has a passion for what she's talking about. easy weekly quizzes on books so you need to read. spark notes saved me. this class made me a lot more interested in literature. you need to participate though. if you get A's and B's on tests and quizzes you'll do fine without participation grade.
My favorite English professor by far! I took 3 of her classes, but I wish I could take more. She is the best! I learned so much from her.
hard teacher. better be prepared to read a good 12 books and be able to concept everything in them. gives weekly pop quizzes on previous nights readings. 3 major tests spread through semester. no final exam
I read the books, and understood the material pretty well.. until I came to class and she completely pulled symbols and hidden meanings out of her ***. She made a big deal about the supposed meaning of a scene in a book that NEVER ACTUALLY HAPPENED!! Don't bother thinking on your own; it's her way or the highway.
My favorite class I've taken at OU! I absolutely loved Professor Pfeiffer! She is the nicest woman and is very helpful. She takes her class very seriously and you will have to read A LOT of books, but I loved it! She gives about 12 quizzes and 3 exams. It's hard, but very interesting! She really motivates and encourages you to participate!
Pfeiffer is helpful and fun. She can get a little crazy at times, and the reading load is sufficient to keep you busy, but not difficult to get done. Participation is key! She's energetic and a blast to learn from. I've also found her helpful outside of class during her office hours. She's awesome!
Without question, Dr. Pfeiffer is the best professor I?ve ever had. She is absolutely brilliant! She assigns fun writing assignments, offers great reading selections and enables thought-provoking class discussions. She?s passionate and energetic about her subject and her love for it is contagious!
Her grading is mostly fair, though I did get marked down without explanation a couple times. She's very good at connecting ideas and bringing new theories into the open. Very casual and laid back professor, just asks that you respect her and not use your phone during class, obvs. She cares about her students, none more or less than others.
this was a great class. a lot of reading, but if you actually do the reading it is almost impossible to fail the class. quizzes are at least once a week on the readings, and tests are fair, not too difficult. she's very enthusiastic and its obvious she enjoys what she's teaching. i would absolutely recommend her to anyone.
Very informed professor. She's very clear on what she expects and is definitely a fair grader. Some people have complained about her playing favorites, but I didn't notice it and no, I wouldn't be considered one of her favorites if she had any. Passionate about the material. Heavy reading load, but it's manageable. I would definitely take her again
Awesome! Brilliant and inspiring teacher - very entertaining. On test days arrive early and work quickly as she they're quite long for the amount of time given. Even if you're not into lit, she will make you enjoy the selected texts & get you to think analytically about them. She's very funny too! Put in some effort and you'll love this class!
Horrible horrible horrible!!!! Hated this class!!! Picks on people and plays favorites. I wish i had gotten another prof. Don't take her!!!
She is hysterical and makes you want to read the books. She is very knowledgeable and gets the class engaging in great discussion making you look forward to every class. YOU MUST READ! Expect quizzes every week and her power points are essential to doing well on the exams (there are 3). I would recommend her to anyone!
Wonderful professor! She is personable and very helpful. Her class is interesting, fun, and an open forum. She is very understanding, and appreciates all opinions put forth. Those who give her bad ratings either don't care about their grades/classes, or rather text their friends during class and still expect to get a 4.0. Highly recommended.
Professor Pfeiffer is by far the best Literature professor I have ever had.She took the time to explain things outside of class and spent extra time where needed. She was truly inspirational and helped me to decide on a major and what i want to do with my life. She was amazing and i highly recommend her to anyone with an interest in English
AMAZING! Best professor I have had at Oakland, made me love English! Thanks Professor Pfeiffer!
I love professor Pfeiffer! She is wonderful. I had her for an Edith Wharton Seminar and she was amazing. She is incredibly knowledgeable and smart. Take her, take her, take her!
Very knowledgeable and makes lectures interesting. However, she is very opinionated, so just make sure your "opinion" aligns with her's and you will be fine.
I just ADORE Professor Pfeiffer. She is wonderful and sweet :) She gets so excited about class discussions. She's intelligent and engaging. I'd definitely recommend her. I'm going to try to take her as much as possible! :) Amazing prof.
Pfeiffer is alright. All of her discussions are student-lead; she never really had a plan as to what she wanted to teach. All of your work is to be done outside of class: a project, and two papers, even though attendance is mandatory. She also gets mad if your opinion differs from hers. However, she definitely knows her stuff.
She is a great professor! This coming semester I'll be taking her for the second time in a higher-level course. She's very nice, helpful and engaging. Very smart and presents the texts in an outside the box way. Willing to talk outside class if you need extra help. Take notes! Course work was appropriate for course level.
Awful! At first I LOVED her! She has a lot of passion for literature BUT her emotional outbursts & lack of accountability when it comes to communication is absurd. She could care less about what is right & wrong & will alter her definition of her syllabus to grade you however she sees fit. No respect for OU for having her as the English chair!
She is amazing and so enthusiastic about the novels she teaches! A lot of the time she lets the class decide what we want to talk about in the novels. For tests we even go over what we've learned during the semester so you go into the tests basically already knowing what you will write about, which is great! Great prof who loves her job!
Pretty decent professor. Three tests, three papers and a research paper, with readings every week (it's an English class) Doesn't post grades online and takes forever to get papers back, but she's very friendly and will gladly help you out if you communicate with her. Lecture are opinion based, but very interesting. Would recommend to take!
This class was interesting. She knows how to keep discussion rolling and we spent most of our class time just conducting open discussion on the novels instead of listening to lectures. She is kind & funny & it's clear that she cares about what she's teaching. If you do the readings, come to class, and participate there's no reason not to get an A.
Very knowledgeable.
does not tell you your grade until it is already on your transcript. participation really matters and make sure you read because there is a quiz every day. do not take this class early in the morning either!
This class wasnt too bad, but you cant just slide through the class without reading the material. The quizzes are very specific and so you have to read and know whats going on in the stories. I dont always agree with her viewpoints but she keeps discussion on track.
This was the first literature class that I took at OU. Talk about a terrible first experience. This class was so hard for no reason. A LOT of reading different literature books, to be expected. Quizzes to make sure you are reading the texts, to be expected. What was not expected was the awful tests she gave us. Her tests SUCK and hurt my GPA.
This professor didn't seem like she cared about the success of her students. She is one of the most difficult graders I have ever come across. For example, she consistently took off points from my assignments with no explanation of what I did wrong and when I came to her office asking her what I did wrong on the assignment she gave no good feedback
I took Eng 1700. Read a couple short stories/chapters per week. Either discussion forum and quiz or 500 word essay of your own imitation of the reading & an explanation alternating weeks. She's an easy grader as long as you do your work you should get a good grade. I turned in two things late over email, and she accepted them. Readings provided.
This professor was really great for Memoir. Zooms are mandatory and so is participation, but it's actually a fun class to discuss. She is very kind and goes far beyond the norm to try and understand other's perspectives. I think she's doing a really great job.
I took English 1700 you had a quiz one week then an imitation writing the next week on the readings, very fun class with a fun approach on new styles of writing. The only thing is the quizzes do not have a lot of time so be prepared to know the reading!
She is strict and not lenient with anything. There seems to always be ambiguity regarding her expectations of the class and the assignments. She does not give good feedback on anything and grades harshly. I feel like she needs more experience teaching online classes because it is obviously not her style. She is frustrating!
As a memoir & essay major, I don't trust Pfeiffer's choice in materials; I don't think she has a respectable taste in literature, and she is NOT open for criticism regarding her textbook assignments. Overall unhelpful feedback and grading decisions.
Pfeiffer is unable to appreciate any opinion or take that does not align with her own. As a professor in a subjective field, I would assume she would be more open-minded. Strict, poor feedback, often does not explain why she deducted points. I do not respect her as an expert in the field or as the chair of the department.
