Poe is a cool teacher! Her class is VERY easy as long as you copy down all the notes whe writes on the board and show up to class every day. She basically writes down all the important stuff to know for the final and exams which are OPEN BOOK. There is absolutely no way you can fail!!

Classes are like 100 people so you probably won't get to know her, but she makes the best of it. Her lectures are straight from book, but they're good, and you don't have to read! Tests are open note, super easy, just have good notes. She actually grades listening diaries so, do them! Fun and easy elective course that transfers to UC! Take it!

Ms. Poe loves music and enjoys teaching. This was my second semester with her because she made me fall in love with music. You don't need a music background to understand or enjoy her class. She makes the material sound easy and gives you crystal clear notes. Just make sure you write them down since you can use them on the Tests and Final.

Kathleen is a great person. She has a passion for music and is very knowledgeable. The class really gets involved in lectures and you are guaranteed to learn a lot in this class. Homework is simple and the test aren't so bad as long as you do go to most of the classes. You get a cheat sheet which helps a lot. Great class to take!

Prof. Poe was truly a great professor. She has a great depth when it comes to the music of the western world. It is a very informative class and you can really build as a person if you relate to the music. I found some to be quite interesting: Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin and many others. Take her class and learn about music for your soul!!!

The professor is extremely fantastic! You can use 2 pages of notes on the tests in addition to the listening diaries. Attend class everyday and pay attention should yield an easy A. Also, if you don't do so well on the tests, she offers plenty of extra credit.

Very Easy Piano Class! All you have to do is PAY ATTENTION when she lectures AND PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! most of the people who didn't do well didn't practice. She doesn't spend a whole lot of time teaching you though. You kinda have to teach yourself.

Professor Poe is AWESOME! All of the tests are open notes and she pretty much tests you on EXACTLY what she lectured. You should read the book, but if you're interested in music you'll probably be fine without it. She doesn't mark you down for missing class, but you do Listening Diaries every day so you'll miss points, anyway. She rocks!

Good class. Subject matter is not hard but you do need to pay attention. Take notes and review those notes and you'll be fine. Also always keep in mind the elements of music because while this is an easy class it is by no means a throw away class. Participate.

As long as you PAY ATTENTION, take notes, and do the listening diaries you will have nothing to worry about. She seems to get annoyed pretty easily, but for the most part she's very passionate about music and very entertaining. She allows one full page, front and back, of notes for each test. And you must attend one concert for the semester.

Mrs. Poe is a nice teacher. The way she teaches the class is easy, but there is alot of stuff to memorize. I have always been a big music junkie but I went into this class with the assumption that it was just another GE class that I would have to suffer through. Surprisingly Prof Poe made the class interesting and thought provoking. If you like music and are going to school to become smarter, take her class.

She's really passionate about what she does. I loved taking her class. I recommend that you take this class. You'll find that it's actually a worth of time instead of taking those classes that you dread going to and always falling asleep in. Pay attention to her lectures and you'll pass for sure. Everything is straight forward for this class.

Second time having her. Again, she's crystal clear in what she wants you to do! I loved going to her class. Very interesting. Some students can be particularly rude though. Definitely would love to take her class again if I could! Listen to her lectures and you should be good.

Took her for online music app. Expect about 30 min per night for homework. The course is clear in what needs to get done, although I thought the test questions were a bit vague (its all done on a 3rd party website). This makes it fairly difficult to get an A even if you do ALL of the work and have prior music experience. Still, interesting class.

Prof. Poe is an amazing teacher. She is extremely passionate about much and made me love it so much more. She's extremely informational and knows her stuff. Just take notes and you'll do fine on the test which generally has MC and T/F questions and 1 short answer. I didn't even buy the book for the class and got 99.6% in the class from taking notes

The book needed I have only read maybe 1-2 pages on Frank Sinatra. It's a great class. No homework just take notes from the lectures and you'll do fine. There's a test after each chapter. She passionate with her teaching in music. Her class is easy as long as u take notes. Attendance is mandatory due to the listening diary and she very strict of who ever come to class late. Her Test and Quiz are MC, T/F question, and 1 short essay. I recommend to anyone ONLY those of u who will show up to class, again they're mandatory.

Prof. Poe is a great teacher. Lectures are engaging and somewhat theatrical.(definitely not the boring monotone type). If you go to class, take notes, and do your assignments you will pass.

Comments specific to 6 week class (online). The biggest issue I had with this class is the website used to teach the class. I paid for access to this website (which you do ALL your work on), and it requires you to type and/or c&p your essays into a very small window with no HTML editor enabled. For 110.00 it should be more user-friendly . IT SUCKS!

Your grade will depend on mini-quizzes (given after each lecture), five written assignments (worth about 2-5% of your grade, each), one midterm covering the first half of the class (23%), and one final covering the last half (23%). Overall, a VERY easy class with a fun/accessible teacher (though Poe can be a picky grader on papers).

Now first thing is first, DO THE READING AND STUDY GUIDES. Do not go to the bathroom because lectures are crucial/No hand written work. With all that said, she is a kind teacher and this class goes by fast because she is willing to work with you; Constant Extra Credit. This class is not an easy A but it is a class where you will learn and have fun!

Easy class. It's pretty much a music history class where the focus is on listening different pieces from different eras. She is a very passionate person who loves the subject and does a great job at lecturing. Put in the work and you shall pass.

I really enjoyed Prof. Poe's class. She's very passionate about music and about her students. There are very few homework assignments and if there are, they're usually online. She always gives a study guide for the tests and she always allows one page of handwritten notes. She keeps her lectures interesting and you will learn a lot about music.

Take heed if you are considering course to satisfy GE reqs. This was not an easy, on-line summer class. It was rigorous and comprehensive. There is a lot of reading and daily quizzes. Recommend for music majors and music lovers as you will strengthen active listening skills. Prof Poe receptive to questions; offers quick response to emails.

She will drop you if you are late too much or don't show up, so make sure you can make it. The lectures are pretty long and she tends to ramble about things that we never see on a test or quiz, but overall if you want an easy A and you will show up to classtake notes you'll be fine! Poe is great. I highly suggest taking her class. She is more than happy to meet with you in her office hours if you're not clear on something and is very clear with what she wants. She is a really nice lady and you can tell she is passionate for what she teaches. If you do the reading, show up and take notes, you will do just fine.

She gives examples of what she teaches so students know what she's talking about. This class was pretty easy because she's gives tests that have stuff that we actually learn about in class. show up everyday to pass.

I took this class right after HS so I didn't start off so great. Just go to class and take notes. Her tests are based on her lectures. You don't always use the book but she has quizzes on the website with the code, serious waste of money, but she does have quizzes.

I thoroughly enjoyed her class, she got me learning about music I didn't know much about even after I have been a musician for years. She was extremely clear on expectations. The online materials are around $100, and expect to pay to go to a symphony concert for a final assignment. It was worth going and spending $20, I enjoyed it and got credit!

Not a fan of music appreciation but this class was actually interesting. Professor Poe is very passionate about music and teaches it well. Not too hard of a class as long as you take notes and review them before class and upcoming exams.

Professor Poe really cares about this subject. Her passion will rub off on you and eventually you will look at music and appreciate it in a way you never have before. This class isn't going to be the most demanding but work outside of class exists. At the end of the semester you have to go to an orchestra and write a report. Would take again.

If you want to learn more about Music History and Appreciation, this is the professor for you. Professor Poe demands you produce, be on time, do the work and bring your book. If you're looking for a puff class, look elsewhere. If you want to experience one of the best professors on campus, then sign up. Outstanding lecturer.

Prof Poe is very enthusiastic about music and music history, and if you like music too then you will have a blast. If you know nothing about music you may have a harder time following her lectures, but just show up and you will learn a lot. If you dont like to show up to every class beware because there are in-class assignments all the time!

If you want to learn about music history, do not take this online class. I'm sure she's great in-person but this online class made me not appreciate music at all. There is so much reading and the assignments that you have to do are graded so strictly. Just know, it's not an easy A.

I've had professor Poe both online and in person, and I would definitely recommend taking her classes in person. Her online class mostly involves reading the book and taking online quizes, which means you are responsible for your own learning. Her in person classes are much more in depth and interesting, so take that option if you can.

Poe is an awesome professor. She is super passionate about music and resonates a lot of positive energy with her humor. She is lecture heavy, so make sure you go to class because she will teach you EVERYTHING on the exams. You don't have to study too hard, her lectures are super easy to understand.

This course is relatively easy if you read you lectures and analyze your music for writing assignments. Prof. Poe is very specific on writing assignments so make sure you are thorough with your work! Professor Poe really loves what she does! I didn't know anything about music, and although a lot of the more precise aspects of music are still way out of my realm of understanding I really enjoyed the class. You get to learn a lot about music throughout history and appreciate it.

To be honest, a lot of the recent reviews I've seen saying that Poe expects you to know everything are NOT accurate. Class does have a lot of testing, but the material is quite easy. The chapters are short and the quizzes are taken right from it. The progress is gradual and you do not need to be knowledgeable to succeed. Just read the chapters.

Her course expectations are clear, she sticks to her syllabus, she is easily reachable, and provides solid lectures that convey her passion for music. I'm not a musically inclined person and never liked classical music but finished the class feeling more musically competent and enjoying Beethoven. Effort+Lectures+Reading assigned reading= easy A.

She is very passionate about music. Weekly discussion boards with creative prompts. Writing assignments every week starting in week 3 that were very time consuming for me. You definitely need to be familiar with music, as most assignments require knowledge of the "elements of music". It probably would have been easier if I was majoring in music.

MUFHL 481: I'll give you this: she's hard. But she cares about you learning. And that's why she's hard. If you're a music major, take her. If you're looking for an easy A for the honors society, don't take her. I wish my major-related professors were as hard as her. I learned a lot about something I didn't care about. MUFHL 481. Prof. Poe is excellent, passionate about the subject! Straightforward; weekly quiz, discussion, and listening quiz. Last one is time-consuming. Canvas and textbook cover everything. As a music novice, took time to grasp, but watching her videos and reading helps. Honors paper was fun, fair grading. Quiz answers found online sometimes.

Although I knew what music is, Professor Poe gave a new understanding and meaning to me. She grades tough because she is passionate about her work and she truly wants her students to understand the material.

Very straightforward class and teaching. Her lectures were engaging and informative, and I genuinely enjoyed the class.
