Very easy. JUST GO TO CLASS!!!
being a past dancer she is passionate about the subject which makes class interesting. watch lots of videos...just go to class and take notes and you will be fine
Redwine is amazing! Just go to class, pay attention, and take a lot of notes! I would call this a stress relieving class!
good teacher. Just show up and take notes. This is the easiest class I have ever taken. There are only 2 assignments and 3 tests throughout the semester along with random quizes.
One of the best teachers I have ever had! Her class was easy, but I still feel like I learned a lot.
yeah, it's easy, but too easy. An insult to your intelligence, as well as mind-numbingly boring. I hated it, though the subject in itself is not that bad.
Prof. Redwine's class is pretty easy. However, I must say it was a tad boring. We watched a lot of video clips, which was interesting, but presentation of the material could be improved.
Easy class, she really cares about dance and its history! You pretty much have to go to class all the time because she gives pop quizzes. Take notes, the quiz questions are word for word from her powerpoints. All you have to do is write two short papers over some dance performances, pop quizzes, an easy midterm and a similar final!
Najma, is an awesome dancer, professor, and person. She not only teaches dance but also the history of it. As long as you attend class you are guaranteed to pass. She also gives extra credit opportunity. Absolutely recommended. Love her!
This is HARD for an elective. I made As my freshman year except for this class in which I barely made a B. She is sometimes rude and will call you out. While she cares about the subject, the info wasn't interesting to me. Several pop quizzes. Take experiencing dance over understanding. I guess I expected a dance class to be easier. Hard final too.
While this class was fairly easy and didn't require attendance, tests are worth 70 percent of your grade which will screw you in the end.
Had her for "intro to non-western dance forms". Easy class. She's snappy if you're caught using your phone. No textbook, just a note packet for like $7.99 that we rarely used anyway. Couple of tests and a paper about any dance you see live, which can even be bellydancers at a hookah bar. No complaints, got my A and non western credit easy.
Hard fine arts credit. She takes the material way too seriously and expects attendance every day. Not worth it. Better off in a different class
Redwine is a great professor and really interested in the subject. A lot of note-taking but super easy. No textbook just packet for 7.99 like someone else said. Made a 100 on the midterm and a 98 on the final and studied night before. Two papers in the class but besides it was interesting and easy. She's a great teacher and this class is awesome. A
She's not mono tone or boring, just really passionate. Great class, Great teacher. MUST DO ALL HER ESSAYS THEY ARE WORTH A LOT (that was how i got a B) . But she doesn't sometime goes by her words tho. Easy class if you just pay attention to her lecture and turn in your assignment on time. I didn't buy the textbook or read the passage.
She's a good teacher. Obviously, lecture isn't the most exciting thing in the world, but don't make the wrong mistake and not show up...SHOW UP. It will make o break your grade, everything she tests on is said during lecture. If you go to class and take notes, stay awake, and do well on pop quizzes, you're golden.
This class isn't too bad as long as you show up and study your notes.
Class is very easy and simple to follow. Tests aren't hard. A few pop quizzes but if you attend class or read the course packet then there will be no problem.
Redwine is a great professor. She requires you buy a packet from Sooner Copy, you must attend class and 2 dance performances. Gives 5 in class quizzes. Cannot use your phone/laptop/ect. Easy to understand and makes class enjoyable with videos of performances. Easy to get an A or B.
She won me over when she brought random guys from the class up to try dance moves and show how difficult even the easy stuff is. She is very passionate and keeps the class interested. The videos she shows are very relevant and fun to watch. GO TO CLASS!!!
She goes a little too far by trying to control the class. NO cell phones or you'll be asked to leave. She took away computer privileges halfway through semester because all eyes weren't on her 24/7. She is a little difficult and there are pop quizzes. If you go to class it shouldn't be too hard, just know she expects you to care.
No phone use, makes you feel like you're an elementary student. Not wonderful but good for a non-western course.
Class is pretty easy as long as you attend. However, she is not very nice. She is very intense about the class and rude if anything goes wrong. Although I would recommend it because as long as you go and do the reading you are fine.
Taking this class online was EXTREMELY difficult during INTERSESSION. The assignments are simple, but even reading all the passages, going through the power points, and watching every single video more than once did not prepare me for the tests online. I am paying for a 3000+ level course to take tests that M/C, TF, and fill in the blank.
She is a very tough grader. When it comes to papers, you are more than likely golden. You don't need the "book" that she asks you to buy. She is probably one of the rudest professors I have ever met. She is an awful communicator. If you email her, you more than likely will never get a response. Her quizzes are awfully hard. Pay attention in class.
Redwine is one of the rudest people I have met. She is so passionate about her material that she expects you to put in more work than the class is worth. This class brought down my GPA even with hours of studying. Do not take this class.
2 Tests, a lot of memorization that is confusing since its kinda hard to remember each words meaning since they sound similar. Didnt study much for test. Get ready for the unexpected quizs. I didnt not think the class was interesting, it was weird. But ok class for nonwestern course. Oh, and no phones during class and dont be late to class.
I took the History of World Dance, and it was really interesting. Professor Redwine was great at participating in the class. Her tests were tough sometimes, but I still managed an A. Just be sure to study.
Her class isn't hard but she does give out pop quizzes so it's a good idea to keep up with the readingsnotes. Attendance is not mandatory, but her lectures are not online. So unless you get notes from someone, you have to go to class. She's passionate about her work and teaching others about dance and it's impact on society.
This class was interesting & very straight-forward. There were 4 exams, 4 quizzes, 2 papers, and 2 discussions. The tests & quizzes come straight from the power points, readings, & videos, with a majority of the questions coming from the power points. Don't buy the textbook because you will not use it. Papers are easy points just follow directions.
Dr. Redwine is a wonderful professor and makes class interesting by showing videos! She does give pop quizzes, but other then that there really isn't any homework at all. This was honestly one of the easiest classes I have ever taken and it was very easy to obtain an A in.
There are quizzes for each section, but they are super easy, which didn't help prepare me for tests at all. These tests are pure memorization and asks for the smallest details. I think the slides are straight from her lecture because some of the content on there have no context, and it's difficult to interpret what she wants you take away.
Not an interesting class. She takes it very seriously, and makes the class un-enjoyable.I It was too much work for a simple dance class. Don't take it
Redwine is a nice lady, but it is honestly too hard of a class for being an art credit that is required to graduate at OU. The lectures are WAY too long. However, it is pure memorization, so if you make notecards after every lecture you will pass with flying colors. I love dance, but this class was very unenjoyable.
When your class is 50% showing videos and the other 50% you reciting information from videos, I don't respect you as a professor. When people ask you questions about the subject material and you reply with "that's a great topic for further research" every time, I don't respect you as a professor. Not good.
Very boring lectures. Tests are extremely hard unless you study literally every day. I took this class because I thought it would be a blow off class, I was very wrong. Avoid if possible. Only good thing was watching CDO. Also, don't bother buying the text book. There are assigned readings but I literally opened my book once.
2 tests are worth 70% of your grade. 2 papers. If she says 2-3 pages she means two FULL length pages or she won't accept it. Not lenient at all. If you go over the page requirement she deducts 10 points. Should have been an easy A.
She just reads off a power point in class every day, and sometimes we watch videos. Attendance isn't mandatory but there's no textbook so if you can't get the notes from someone else you have to go to class. Super boring class, and the tests are really hard because there's a TON of vocab. It's not hard to get an A if you memorize all the vocab.
Avoid taking this class from her if possible! She has pop quizzes, and random clicker questions. All of her pop quizzes, and exams are all fill in the blank and some matching. There are no multiple choice questions. She made the class way harder then it needed to be for a gen ed requirement. I love dance, but this class was not enjoyable.
Redwine takes the general education pretty seriously. Attendance is not mandatory, but she does not post her slides online and she gives pop quizzes so you will want to go. Her pop quizzes are usually fill in the blank, which is pretty hard. You basically just have to memorize the vocabulary.
Class has nothing to do with my major, or anyone else's in the class. She made it so difficult. 50 point pop quizzes (multiple choice questions were worth 10 points), doesn't allow laptops or phones, shows a lot of videos, and you have to attend a ballet and write a paper.
She is way too invested in this course, and doesn't care if people are struggling. Her answer to every question is "it's in the syllabus." There's 2 tests and 5 pop quizzes, which are all given mainly after the first test. Pop quizzes are worth too many points, so if you don't know one question, you'll more than likely fail the quiz. DO NOT TAKE!!!
All around horrible experience, emailed her 5 times before she responded, changed the final to comprehensive two days before the final exam. If you are looking for a positive experience Mrs. Redwine is not for you.
I had one problem about my exam that I didn't know about and it turned out that she gave me a zero because there was no "record" of it, even though I clearly took it. She has minimal gradings so make sure you do everything. If you do it all you pass. Not sure how the exams are set up. Haven't found out where she makes all her questions.
This class, while very detail oriented, was not difficult. It is important to attend class to make sure to get all of the notes for the quizzes and exams and also because Professor Redwine gives lots of pop quizzes. She also shows lots of videos in class that help emphasize the material. The class is easy as long as you go to class.
Worst professor I've had. Gives awful pop quizzes that nobody knows the answers to and the exams are insanely hard. Super strict about technology and will call you out mid-lecture if she sees your phone. Should be an easy elective and she makes it ridiculously tough.
Attendance isn't mandatory but there are pop quizzes. Each quiz is worth 100 points but is only 10 MC questions... Papers aren't hard, just kinda pay attention and class will be fine
Super sweet lady. Went into this class expecting it to be a blow off and quickly learned it was not. Honestly not that difficult if you take it seriously and study. Could have gotten an A. There were 5 pop quizzes and 3 exams. Basically study all of the notes you take and you will be fine. 2 very easy papers.
There were four unannounced pop quizzes that have some affect on your grade. There were only two exams. The final exam is comprehensive. Redwine doesn't allow any laptops or cellphones, so you have to hand write your notes. Exams are easy; Redwine gives a review for the exams that contain all of the info. needed to study to do well on the exam.
The two tests are much harder than the quizzes and they are not multiple choice which surprised me. They are also worth an unusually large percentage of your final grade. If you do not do exceptionally well on the tests, you will have no chance of getting an A. There are definitely better classes to take to fulfill your non-western civ credit!
So I took this class to get some humanities out of the way, and thought it was going to be an easy A. NOT TRUE!! She made it a lot harder than it needed to be, and she gives pop quizzes on previous and current notes. The quizzes are worth a lot more than they should be, so Study a lot! Overall she just made the class EXTREMELY DIFFICULT for Nonmjs
Hated this class. You can tell Professor Redwine is very passionate about dance, but she expects everyone else to be, too. Way too hard for a lower division gen-ed class.
Class basically only graded from (very difficult) midterm and final. Way harder than it should be.
She grades paper as if we are still in high school and basically acts like one.
This class was overall easy, but you have to show up to class. Information on tests come straight from the notes. As long as you take the notes straight off the slides you'll be fine. POP QUIZZES!!! There are about 7 pop quizzes during the semester so just go to class. Can't have any electronics out in class with kinda sucks. Overall, I recommend.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She is absolutely awful. One of the rudest people I have ever met. If you miss one day with a pop quiz your screwed. If you do bad on the midterm or final your definitely screwed. I hated this class with a passion.
The quizzes are random and based off of the section's lecture content. No text book is required which is nice! You'll have to go to every class to get the notes for the midterm and the final, and obviously the quizzes. It's a fun and interesting class to take that's not a blow off, but enjoyable.
I had this class my freshman year and was extremely easy compared to my other classes. However I took it for granted; I ended up with an 89.7 and she would not round up because she saw that I did not go to any of the extra credit opportunities. Moreover, class was extremely long and I always drowsed off.
70% of your grade comes from four exams so if you do poorly on one, you're pretty much screwed. Easy grader for papers, but she requires you attend (and pay for the ticket) to a dance performance. You have to perform a dance move in class or lose 50 points Somewhat talks down to students and will call you out for being on phone, dozing off, etc.
This professor can come off as harsh at first. However, as long as you go to every class as she doesnt post anything from lecture online and wont send you any notes you miss, you will be fine. The class is vocab heavy so you need to be good at memorization. It is fairly easy to pass as long as you study and do the 2 papers.
This course is easy as long as you show up, pay attention, and take notes. You shouldn't miss much class because she does give pop quizzes. She runs her class similar to a high school class - no technology, no talking, no eating. (but this is understandable because she has lots of students) Just do what she asks and you'll be fine :)
The quizzes and papers are super easy, but they're barely worth anything. You fail one of the two tests, you're not making it out of that class with higher than a C. I took it online, bad decsion. Would probably be better to take in person, but I feel as though it would still be difficult.
If you even remotely care about your grades, do not take this course with Kathleen Redwine. This is an intro course, but it's one of the hardest courses I have taken at OU and I am well into my upper-division courses. She only gives two exams for the semester, but they are extremely difficult and if you do bad on one, say bye to passing this class.
only four quizzes in the class and two tests (worth 70% of your grade). There is also 2 papers but shes a very easy grader on them. However, the midterm and final are the majority of your grade so if you slack off and dont study much you will not get a good grade in the class even if you get a 100 on every single quiz and paper.
Do not take her class. She is probably one of the worst professor ever at OU. 70% of your grade comes from exam. Her study guide do not help your exams at all. She said she would give you extra credit throughout the semester. Do not believe that. Her grading is unreasonable as well. Change the class or take it with different professor! Not worth it
Test Questions very similar to notes given in lecture! Go to lecture and take notes then it is an easy A! 4 Quizzes, 2 essays, 2 tests, that's all the grades. Quizzes are pop, but she hints in class when they will be!
She gives out pop quizzes and does not do homework grades so if you do bad on the quizzes your grade will suffer. This class is all memorizing vocab from different languages. Study hard and you will get a good grade. Should not be this hard for an elective class. I would not take this class again
do not take this class, especially online. the tests are extremely specific. the other grades are so minimal that if you do poorly on either test you will be happy to get a C! I studied for 2 days and was still underprepared for the test due to poor lecture materials. I really don't recommend this class.
dont take her. pop quizzes out the wazzooo. absolutely sucks. I am a dancer and I got a B in a dance class. NOT GOOOD. SAVE YOURSELF
I took her online class for dance history and she would just post powerpoints from her in-person lecture and then forget we ever existed. Do not try to email her with questions because she will just send you the same uninformative information in the assignment.
I took Understanding Dance online with Kathleen Redwine. If you are expecting an easy grade online you will not get it. The midterm and final are worth the majority of the points. If you do not do well on the midterm or final it will be difficult to receive a good grade. The study guides are somewhat helpful, but not tons. Very difficult class.
She is a very sweet lady! the class is online, taught by yourself. you will need to study for the midterm and final! the rest is 4 quizzes and 1 paper. Majority of class failed the test, they are weighted very heavily, you will have to work for a good grade in the class, but you will do something once a month for it!
A very interesting class and a great professor! One midterm and a couple of papers. The lectures were quite exciting and you could learn about different cultures and their dances!
I enjoyed learning the material we covered, but I underestimated the amount of reading and studying I had to do, which hurt my midterm exam grade. If you take this class, PLEASE take notes & study all the assigned material because that's what will help you get that A. There's extra credit, but the first half of the semester is crucial to your grade
I took her for an upper division humanity class and let me tell you it was the hardest class I've ever taken. I took her online and it is the worst set up I have ever seen. Plus, the midterm exam required that I do an essay during the test. When I asked her questions, such as tips for the exam essay, she just gave vague and undesciptive answers.
The class is interesting however it is a lot of lectures. The quizzes are easy however, the midterm is hard. She is strict on wearing masks. She is nice most of the time but will make side comments if you get on her bad side. she is strict on being on phones when showing a video. She definitely knows her stuff and class is packed with info
Overall, the class was not too hard. There was one midterm exam that is graded heavy and three papers. If you get a good passing grade on the midterm you should be able to pass with an A in the course. She grades relatively easy on papers. There is no room for extra credit. Very kind professor and can tell that she loves what she is doing.
I took the intersession online course and I felt as if I could not figure out how to succeed in her class. The "study guide" we were presented with for the midterm was less than adequate. Her essay rubrics left a lot up to interpretation and I felt as if her grading was very opinion based and unpredictable. I hated this class.
Overall this class was pretty easy! I took it for the non western gen-ed credit. The midterm is pretty heavy, but if you study you should get a passing grade. The quizzes are very easy. Lectures are a bit boring but not too bad. She also lets you out early most of the time! Take this class!!
Professor Redwine is honestly great. I took this class just to get a gen-ed credit out of the way, but she honestly made it really enjoyable. I would recommend actually going to class because she made the content easier to understand and remember than a PowerPoint would. You can tell that she is passionate about the subject, and enjoys teaching.
She's okay, but the midterm was ridiculously hard. There are so many slides just to take a 10-question quiz and the readings were long. If the midterm hadn't screwed me over I would have a better grade.
This is not a 100% blow off class. The Midterm is not easy, but she tells you exactly what to study and it is the only time you have to study in the class. She is not trying to trick you and she really loves what she is teaching. Just prepare yourself to work hard on the midterm and you will be just fine.
Do not take this class with Redwine. She is such a tough grader for the essays for no reason and doesn't even supply the students with a rubric. When I emailed her about my grade, she said that "all essays are expected to be written at college level" even though the points she took off were because of commas, which are subjective.
This class was incredibly easy except for the tests. I wrote both papers very last minute and got As on both. Ms. Redwine is very passionate and super caring, and her workload is almost nothing. Totally recommend for that gen ed credit
Overall, this class isn't horrible. The only thing that was difficult was the midterm, do yourself a favor and actually put some time into studying it. Other than the midterm, the rest of the assignments are fairly easy. There are 4 quizzes, 2 papers, a midterm, final paper, one discussion, and one extra credit opportunity.
Very easy class expect the midterm. Honestly prepare to fail it. Its multiple choice and over all the dances, places, and symbols you've learned. The midterm broke my grade. Quizzes are easy and she grades the essays really easy (not sure why some ppl are saying she doesn't). Class not mandatory. She is such a sweet person who love her job.
Wow, never have I ever had a worse experience with a professor. If you can avoid taking any class with her, do it at all costs. I took the 8
Barely any assignments in this course, mid-term were worth 30% of your overall grade, which was terrible and hard. Gives you a study guide for it but the midterm is set up so much differently. She has a passion for dance and you can tell in her lectures, but the way the midterm is set up truly makes this class awful.
She is awesome , she explains very well on the writing assignments , as long as you put your time and efforts , she will give you good grade tho . Midterm exam is fairly easy, as long as you study on the guide that she provides for the exam.
This class has the most weight in exams that I have ever seen. After my midterm that I studied hours for I still failed. The average for the exam was failing as well. For a class that most people are in to fill a gen-ed it should not be this difficult. She needs to keep her politics out of the class. She only reads off of slides.
I only took this class for a gen-ed and had a 100% until the midterm. I have never seen a midterm weigh this much and I studied and i failed. Attendance is not mandatory at all, I have missed multiple classes. She has discussions and quizzes but very easy. Super hard to get your grade up though.
I had an A in this class until the midterm. I studied for hours and still ended up failing, which made my grade fall a lot. You can tell she is very passionate about dance but for a gen-ed, it should not be that hard.
Ok guys take this class if you never want to go to class. There are maybe 5 at-home quizzes for the semester (answers online, they take 5 minutes) and one essay (light workload). I won't lie the midterm is hard, but study for like 5 hours and it is SO worth it because you never have to go to one class (attendance so optional). TAKE THIS CLASS.
Absolute would not recommend this class, even as an online course. The class is based on so few assignments, that after receiving nothing lower than high A's on all the assignments except the Midterm, I still ended with a low B. The midterm was unlike anything I've ever taken, I studied for weeks prior yet was shocked and confused by the questions.
The one midterm basically makes or breaks your grade. Attendance is not mandatory. You'll get the A if you go and pay attention up until the first midterm. Professor Redwine is a very kind and passionate teacher about the world of dance. FYI she doesn't like it if you come to class just to be on your phone/computer the whole time, so don't do that.
She is a good person and I personally enjoyed the contents of the class. However, the class is not very engaging and sometimes I felt as though I was there for no reason. It is a fairly easy class though.
She is kind and very passionate about dance, but lectures were boring. All slides are posted online, so you can skip class. Midterm is 30% of grade, but it's just memorizing facts from the few lectures. 5 easy online quizzes, one paper, discussions, and a final where you create a dance. Don't leave class before it's over or she will call you out.
This class was fine except for the midterm. It was incredibly hard for no reason, and dropped so many peoples grades an insane amount. To do well, you truly have to memorize all the slides and study. Definitely ridiculous for a gen-ed. Other than that the assignments were easy and attendance was not required.
Great class. The midterm was hard but doable, study for like a day and you'll be fine. Attendance was not mandatory. Papers are graded easy. I definitely recommend it.
Such an easy credit. Had 2 papers and the rest were quizzes.
