She is a very good teacher!!! I would definetly recamend her eventhough she is hard. If you take this class you will learn a lot. You will work on the assignments as a class (step-by-step) :o) If you want to learn a lot this is a good class.
I thought this class was alright to start, but I didn't find her very helpful at all. True, the material we worked with was very interesting, but I don't think she's the best choice to learn it from. Take this class only if you're 100 percent focused on the complex texts.
Kathleen will make you the best writer you could possibly be. Yes, this is a hard class, but the reward is well worth it.
the text makes you want to claw out your eyes, but she's willing to walk you through difficult material and she's great to bounce ideas off of.
Why is she teaching at RCC? She is an extremely brilliant teacher and I think she should be teaching at a four-year school. Yes, her class was tough, probably the most work intensive class of my 17 unit semester. You learn alot about close-in reading and the appreciation of literature. For guys thinking about taking the class,I recommend it,hot!
Already as a good writer, I've earn many awards in poetry and english writing. When I took her class it was a repeat of what I already knew. I was A material, expect a D.
Spend too much time in classroom and not enough time resting and writing papers. Find another professor or your doomed.
She is one of the best teachers at RCC maybe thats why she got a teacher of the year award, (I was in class when she got it). Although it's time consuming you will learn so much and she is willing to walk you through it, she is so incredible I was so lucky to be in her class. Only other teacher in school as great as her is Ridley

Keeps a great pace, extremely intelligent, good connection with students. An Ivy League professor at a community college.
This class offers a heavy workload and intense discussions that require having done you homework, but you leave with a mastery of the material taught. (And no professor has never made intellect so sexy.)
Kathleen is not going to take your ****. Her class is a bit labor-intensive, but the work load is comparable to what you can expect at university. She's interesting, innovative, and passionate about the material.
She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. It's a hard class but you learn so much!
She's hard, but she knows her stuff! Take her if you are seriously interested in English, not if you need credit and an easy A.
she is the best english teacher I've ever had. She is tough as nails, but you learn sooo much about writing that it is all worth it in the end. she is super nice and dedicated.
Take advantage of your classes with this teacher. As an English major, I found her to be the best teacher I have yet to encounter at RCC. A class with her is well worth the effort if you are going to school to learn, not just to stay on your parents health insurance.
Dr. Sell has been, by far, one of the greatest English professors I have ever encountered. The material and work load is challenging but if you manage to get through her class you can be truly confident about your reading and writring skills. If you are an english major I strongly urge you to take at least one cousre with her before leaving RCC.

She's a hardass but a very good teacher. Her class is really difficult and she expects a lot from her students but if you keep up with the reading and study guides a B in her class may be in your future.
Excellent Excellent Excellent teacher worthy of the title "professor." Her classes are very difficult and you WILL work your rear off, but oh are they worth it. Only take if you are looking for a challenge that will make you a better writer and analyzer of literature.
She is a great teacher to have if you are planning on a major for English. Very difficult as she gives quite a bit of work. However, it is even more difficult if you don't read the assigned books. She gives you many options to complete your course work. I would not suggest this class if you are over 12 units of classes.

She made World Religions a really interesting class. I would find myself talking about religion outside of the class. Her assignments are difficult but it was easier writing about something interesting then something flat out boring. She is a great teacher.
great teacher. very nice, very interesting. helpful. i struggled at first but she will help you with any questions you have, no problem! very interesting class, although it is very difficult! change my way of thinking!
Kathleen is the BEST. I had her for Brit lit 6/7 at RCC, and she is the most passionate and learning intensive teacher I've EVER had. I can say that even after graduating with my BA! ANYONE who says she is not worth taking is LAZY, NARROWMINDED, and unworthy of learning what she has to teach! Put some EFFORT into learning, people!!!
A professor like professors were meant to be. The work required critical thought--mostly wanted students to think about spirituality, which is pretty helpful to cope in the modern world. If you don't have time to sit down and ponder some abstract ideas don't take her. Very enriching class--I got a B.
She's amazing! Totally taught me everything I need to know about writing an essay. She's not an easy teacher, but definitely the most helpful one I've had thus far. I loved her! It's a lot of work, but it's not hard work.
Although she's a tough grader, she's a wonderful teacher and friend when you get to know her. SHE COULD NEVER GRADE ON A RACIAL BIAS-so please, don't EVER accuse her of that! The class, itself, if extremely difficult, but she does the best she can in class, during office hours or thru email to help you understand everything. She's a great teacher!!
Amazing, amazing, amazing. Extremely helpful, went over and beyond what she could have done for this class. One of my top favorite professors EVER. You'll be putting in work, but you learn and she's super understanding. My grade for Professor Sell? A+++! Thank you!
I love this woman =) She is really sweet and is very helpful. She puts forth effort to learn everyones name. Very compassionate woman, I wish I could have taken English with her.
She's a great teacher. it's impossible not to learn. i actually wanted 2 come 2 class. she's a hard grader, but will give u great feedback on ur papers. there's a lot of reading & writing, def not 4 slackers. i highly recommend her--this is a university professor!! she rocks
Nice and helpful. Her class revolved around a theme which was alright at first, but then just got annoying at the end. You will learn alot about writing from her.
After two years at RCC, I can confidently say that Dr. Sell is one of the best professors (if not THE best) I have had. She is ridiculously intelligent and has a passion for the material she is teaching. She is also an incredibly kind and understanding person. If you're an English major, don't hesitate to take her classes.
One of the best profs I've ever had. You will learn a lot, whether you want to or not, and she expects a lot from you, but stay on top of the reading and listen in class you'll deliver--which is easy because she's very interesting to listen to. Highly intelligent/knowledgable. P.S. She's kind of a fox. Okay she really really is.
Great teacher, very intense and into her class. tough grader but you will learn alot! helpful with research papers--found lots of sources for most of the people in my class. has some high standards but its fairly easy to get a good grade as long as you do your work and show up to class.
Dr. Sell is a very good teacher. Class consist of a project, quizzes, a final, and 7 study guides, five of which are mandatory (Other two are transferred as extra credit). Answers questions thoroughly and engages the class. Grades somewhat difficult but is easy to pass the class. I would recommend it to anybody who wants to learn about religions.
Kathleen is an amazing teacher. I learned so much throughout her class and progressed with my writing tremendously! She is always willing to help!
Prof. Sell is a great teacher. She is really passionate about religion, and her lectures are clear and easy to understand. There are several texts that you will be reading from, so be prepared to do a lot of reading. There are five study guides, several quizzes, a midterm and a final. She is a reasonable grader, and offers a chance for late work.
I absolutly loved kathleen Sell she was amazing understanding and sweet. Her study guides made you think but they really helped for the final. As long as you were in class listneing you can pass. I loved this teacher i learned so much.
Dr. Sell is an amazing teacher, I learned so much from her and would take her for every class she teaches if i could. She is very demanding but if you listen to her she gives you all you need to do well.
My favorite class at RCC! She was wonderful, I learned more than I expected about religion. Her lectures are organized, detailed, clear. Backs up every lecture with specific religious texts. Study guides were easy and helpful, it really clarified the material. I recommend anyone take her for world religions if they are interested.
She is strict! Her class is tough. I usually do really well in english, but my gosh there was no way in pulling my way through this class. When teaching, she always seemed nervous which I thought was strange. Did not look forward going to this class everyday, which is sad because english is my favorite subject. Overall, she's decent.
Prof. Sell is great! She is very helpful and is organized. She gives you everything you need to know and do to complete her assignments. I took her for Eng 1A through the CAP program and she works well with the students and the other professors in the CAP program. She can be hard on grading but Prof. Sell will teach you what you need to know.
Sell is great! It is a challenging class that is exciting and interesting. All you need to do is keep up with the extraordinary amount of reading (she does warn that it is a reading-intensive class) and the study guides and you should do fine. She has to be one of my favorite professors I've had at RCC.
One of the best professors out there period. Not a lot of homework but a lot of reading and a comprehensive project. As long as you put forth some effort you'll do fine.
Kathleen is a wonderful professor! I'm taking her right now and absoulutely love going to her class. There is lots of reading, but most of the students in the class are english majors so we are use to it. Take her and you will no regret it!
Dr. Sell is an amazing professor who has much passion for her work. However, this class is reading intensive. She handouts all the assignments and deadlines for the entire semester on the first day. She also gives back feedback on all your work and is very approachable and friendly. If you are a good independent worker and love English take her!
very helpful if you have questions. Made transitioning into the honors program easier to have her as a prof. Recommended
Dr. Sell is the best Professor I have ever had at RCC. She is extremely motivating, interesting, and so passionate about the subect. I urge you to take her class(es)!
Extremely nice and helpful, but definitely not an easy class. Her honors humanities class with Yoshino is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, but the two professors work good together and are both great professors.
Professor sell is an amazing teacher!Ever since I took her class, my writing has improved. She is really helpful, and will walk you through the essays that are required. She sets time in class for ANY questions about what we're working on. All she asks is for dedication and her class will be a piece of cake. I highly recommend her taking her class!
One of the hardest classes I ever took at RCC. But one of my favorite classes as well. If you're willing to work hard for your grade you will succeed. The reading material provided in class was structured and paired with other classes within the CAP community(Hum10,Reading)learning about politics to religion. Not easy, but awesome class.Recommend!!
this class kicked my butt, but now i can actually write an essay dr. sell is really interesting we have great topics and you actually learn i could see a tremoundous difference between my first and last essay. highly recomended.
Really nice, hard but extremely helpful.
Be on time to class, take notes in class an on the readings, these notes can save your life on exams and the final oral exam (which is brutal!!!). Despite the brutalness, this class changed my life and viewpoint of the world and history. I strongly recommend this class. Piece of advice take HUM 4H before HUM 5h if possible.
Dr. Sell is a remarkable and insightful instructor. Come to class on time and be prepared with the readings. Please take Dr.Sell she is one of those once in a life time professors that students rarely have the chance of taking.Be prepared to work hard for your grade though because it is not an easy A. I survived and received an A+ so you can too.
Easily one of the worst professors at RCC. She knows how to teach and you will learn but she treats everyone as a English major and grades them on that basis. At the end of the semester there was less than 10 people in the class because she graded them poorly and they worked very hard. You can pass her class if you work hard but she's not worth it.
Never EVER take her!
Professor Sell a great instructor. I've taken her for a few courses, and she's among the few professors who actually care about their students, and who are truly passionate about what they do. If you are a serious student, take her for 1A. Eng 1A is among the most important courses you'll take, and if you take a bad instructor you will suffer!
She's a pretty cool teacher, just keep up with the readings and participate in the discussions and you'll be fine.
I took Sell for English-50 and have since completed English 1B. She is purely awesome and I wish there were more professors out there like her!
Took her during the winter for Humanities 10 (World Religions). Least to say it was a rough six weeks. Make sure to read the main text book along with the sacred text of each religion studied. I never read the main text book. But I was sometimes lost. Make those crib notes for the quiz as they are extremely important on passing the class.
She at first seems mean, but after a week or so she is the best. She is helpful and is the best teacher to take. Do not slack on her because it will show. I recommend her to all students!
Dr. Sell is an Amazing professor! She gives great feedback & her lectures are always very interesting and illuminating. You will not regret taking her. The midterms were take home & we were allowed one page of notes for the final.
Participation and your input in class discussions are essential in passing this class and truly understanding the material, if you don't get something, talk to her after class or thouroughly read Huston Smith. Beware of reading responses and DO NOT save them till the last second or you WILL NOT get a good grade on them.
Professor Sell is an amazing instructor! She does expect a certain level from her students, but she wants to see students succeed and will do anything to help you get to where you need to be. I became a better writer through her feedback. Although I did not enjoy the subject matter of humanities, I enjoyed having her as my professor.
Dr. Sell brought the interest and confidence back to my writing. She is a great overall professor and proved that she cared for her students. She did so by advising most of us to join the honors program for our benefit. I can't thank her enough for my success and I will forever be grateful for her influence.
Dr. Sell is one of the most amazing professors I've ever had the good fortune of learning from. She is an incredible facilitator and imparts a passion for the subject that is easily contagious. I entered the class as a bitter atheist, and I emerged as a respectful atheist. She unapologetically focuses on the good that each tradition has to offer.
Read Read Read!!! There is a lot of reading, but I do love the content. Visit her during office hours if you need help.
I took her in Fall '14. She's going to expect you to give it all you got. Do not take her course if you cannot give your undivided attention. Procrastination will be your downfall in any of her courses. READ, READ, AND READ!
Professor Sell is a great teacher, she enjoys what she teaches and shows interest in helping students. She does not post grades online and can be hard to reach sometimes but will help if she can. Reading is necessary and one paper was due every week.
Dr. Sell is a great proffesor who you can really tell loves teaching. She even gives you a course packet that describes exactly what she is looking for in the class. Follow that and you will get an A. There is alot of reading (I have her for brit lit), and a reader responce each week (1pg). And the midterms are take home! Gives Extra Credit Too!
Dr Sell is an incredible professor. She's extremely knowledgable, and demands discourse in class discussion to push her students to strive for the same level of proficiency. Students who don't: read, pay attention, participate in class, or visit her during office hours will not pass. She challenged me and made me a better academic and better writer
She is a great professor, the class was very interesting and she makes it fun. If you are having any issues she is there for her students and will work with you and make sure to let you know how you can make class work. You will be reading a lot, having some length journals and papers but they're spaced out so it's not a lot. Reading before helps!
She was a great professor, her lectures helped a lot with the readings and gave extra literature that really helped to understand the material. Would take her again, but don't have a class to take her for.
If you are an english major, you will love her. If you are taking the class just to meet the requirements, get out while you can. Everyone is treated as an English major in her class and she does not look at other perspectives.
Professor Sell is amazing!!!!! She is so caring and helpful she makes you feel like you can for sure pass the class! Dont be scared by the course packet right away. She gives great feed back on everything you turn in and it really helps your work get better. Designs the course to help you succeed. I wish I could take her again!
I took Professor Sell for Eng-8 and I really enjoyed it! She is an awesome and caring professor. She offers extensions for all written work which came in handy.
Every now and then you get a professor that is so bad you wander how they were even considered for the job. This is one of those teachers. The only thing I learned is how many leaves out on the tree outside.
She's awesome! If you can write decent essay's you'll be fine with Prof. Sell. She cares a lot about her students and will make accommodations if you need them. Even if you are not an English major she will help you tremendously. Her goal isn't to make you a full on writer, just don't be an idiot. Take her, she's much better than most English prof.
Every now and then you meet a professor that never should have gotten into teaching. This is one of those professors. Shes in the wrong line of work.
Professor Sell is amazing. Im in my second year and have never given a professor a review, but she is awesome. Every class is just a lecture on some close reading we were assigned, which is so helpful. There is one assignment a week, and the answers are largely given during those lectures. And, all assignments have a week-long grace period!
Dr. Sell is my favorite Professor. Hands down. She Is kind, considerate, compassionate, ridiculously intelligent and wants YOU to succeed. You will become a better writer in her class, singlehandedly because her feedback is specific and personal to your writing. You will also fall in love with the literature because her presentation is compelling!
You will fall in love with Shakespeare in Dr. Sell's class! (This is assuming you weren't already in love with Bill, like me lol) Dr. Sell is able to take formidable literature and show how these themes and narratives persist in contemporary culture. If you even 'kind of' enjoy theatre you MUST take this course when offered! You'll love it and her!
The fact that she is the English department chair shows how low the standards are for this college. I feel sorry for her and those unfortunate enough to take her.
Dr. Sell is who got me through my English 1A course. Mind you, I had failed English twice before. The third time's the charm, right? I guess it was because I passed Professor Gilbert's English 1A class with an A! I wasn't receiving as much help as I needed through the WRC, so when Professor Gilbert recommended taking Dr. Sell's class I signed up!
She is so passionate about lit. and it is noticeable in her lectures. She goes into depth and adds amazing analysis to the texts we discuss. While the writing assignments are hard and there is a lot of reading, Sell is so encouraging and gives amazing feedback. I've taken two classes with her and I wish I could take all of them. Best Professor ever
Dr. Sell is a godsend in the world of academia! Understanding, compassionate, and incredibly educated and intelligent. Her passion for literature shines through her lectures and her in depth analyses of what we read in class. Assignments are light, and you only write 2 essays throughout the course. If you're an English major, she's the prof to take
