Kathleen was an amazing professor! She's a teacher who genuinely cares and wants to see her students succeed, and she's willing to work with you to get the grade you deserve. Her lectures were hilarious
Mrs. Shaw was very personable. I enjoyed her perspective on public speaking. The streamline subject matter hindered her ability to teach in something she was passionate about. I would recommend her but I would not recommend this course.
Kathleen has been very helpful when trying to help you get a good grade. Enjoyed the teacher thoroughly but not the guidelines she was given to follow.
Loved the class! Not too tought but i still leanred a lot and am a much more confident public speaker.
Great teacher who is willing to help you with whatever you need, truly kept the good of the class in mind.
Great teacher!! learned tons and enjoyed doing it!
she is great! Always there to help and get you a good grade!
Prof. Shaw is a great teacher. She is a fair grader. If you put in effort she'll probably pass you. She's a very friendly teacher who wants all of her students to be successful. I would recommend her to anyone. I really enjoyed her class.
Great teacher that was very understanding and lenient for everything.
She is really awesome and funny!
Loved this class! Very easy. Your 4 lowest quiz marks get dropped. The assignments are easy and don't take much time. Very nice teacher!!
Easy class, super chill prof.
Instructor was easy to follow and always adjusted according how the semester is going. I enjoyed her class and would take her again. Of course it is an undergrad class so it is not very detailed like it could have been. :)
I came into this class super skeptical about it, feeling it was just another boring Gen-Ed course. I was pleasantly surprised. The professor was always upbeat and ready to help us do our best in the class, and she did a great job tailoring it to the student's needs. I entered a timid boy, and left a public speaking man. 10/10 would take prof again.
I thoroughly enjoyed her class. She is kind and always willing to help her students improve their speech skills. Kathleen always had a great attitude and is very funny. I think those are important qualities in a communications instructor because you want to keep your audience's attention. I really gained a lot of self confidence from her class !!
Kathleen was an excellent professor for my public speaking class. The information she shared was very relevant to the class, and she made clear the expectations needed to do well in the class.
Love being in her class. She's very hands on with everything and she gives us the students the opportunity to speak out and show our opinions. Very kind and caring with how she interacts with students. She walks you through what we need to do online each week and she plans ahead. Very organized and fun class to be in! I highly recommend her!!!!
She is a good teacher. The class isn't very stressful, just got to make sure you do the work and you can get an A. She is very helpful and want you to succeed
Mrs. Shaw was respectful to all students in the class. Class was enjoyable and we had great discussions. It was easy to feel comfortable!
I love how Kathleen responds to my emails right away. She's the sweetest 3
She is a very likable person and pleasant to be around. However, and this may not be her fault, the course was very disorganized. Reading the textbook from the projector was the norm. The teacher also caved very easily to whiny students that wanted deadlines moved or requirements more lenient.
It was really fun once you got to know her and all the other people in the class! We soon weren't nervous at all to talk to each other. It was great!
Great class. Professor Shaw is very kind and understanding. She will work with you if needed and was great about giving every student a chance to receive a good grade. The only part of the class that could be improved is some of the grading criteria. Overall a great class.
Professor Shaw was an incredibly forgiving professor. Her class was easy but still fun. You have to be there every day to get participation points. However, she didn't seem to know a lot about the subject or seemed to care very much.
This class is super easy and the professor is really nice
Professor Shaw's class was very well organized and the criteria was easy to follow. I would definitely take another class with her again.
Professor Shaw was an awesome professor! She made class super interesting and really helped me get over my fear of public speaking. She was super caring of all her students and seemed passionate about the subject.
Very good teacher easy to listen too she is very knowledgeable and gives you good opportunities to learn.
She was a great teacher and very easy to work with if any problems arose!
Excellent professor.
Professor Shaw is great! She is knowledgeable about public speaking. Class is laid back and the text book was online. I have had some minor experience with giving speeches and this class was really easy for me. Professor Shaw was a big reason for that. She is caring and worked with me on assignments when I neededicated it.
Professor Shaw is great! She is knowledgeable about public speaking. Class is laid back and the text book was online. I have had some minor experience with giving speeches and this class was really easy for me. Professor Shaw was a big reason for that. She is caring and gave a lot of extra credit.
Professor Shaw is one of the best professors at UVU. She's witty, her assignments are fairly easy, and she gives so much extra credit! I highly recommend taking her class!
She is an easy A, however, there are a lot of papers and the test require reading out of the text book. She takes attendance, and for every time you're absent she subtracts from your attendance.
She is a very nice lady. She lets the students know what she expects of them at the beginning of the semester and goes over the assignments multiple times so that there is no confusion. I really enjoyed her class.
Easiest class. The assignments were pretty simple. You have to come to class cause she grades on participation. She offers a lot of extra credit so you can miss. She cancels class when you have test. All the tests are online, so you can use your textbook.
Professor Shaw is one of the best professors! She's witty, and she gives really easy assignments. If you don't do good on the assignments, she offers a lot of extra credit to make up for it. This class is an easy A!
Professor Shaw was an alright professor. As long as you complete the assignments on time, you will get and A. She offers lots of extra credit if you don't show up for participation points. It seemed like the students of the class did most of the teaching, not the professor.
Gave me many opportunities for extra credit and was very patient and understanding.
She gives you all of the assignments and is clear with the grading criteria. She is a good teacher and allows you to work in groups. I would definitely take her again.
Professor Shaw was a good teacher. Classes were enjoyable and fairly easy to pass if you participated.
This class was fairly easy, with lots of writing assignments; however, they weren't very long. She gives you a lot of extra credit opportunities. Attendance is graded, so come to class! The students teach the class, and do presentations on each of the chapters.
Prof. Shaw is clear about what she expects out of the class. There are participation points, but missing a couple classes won't plummet your grade.
Professor Shaw is a nice lady and will work with you when you need help. The tests are not too difficult being that they are take home tests. She does give attendance points, but there are many opportunities for extra credit. It seemed as though students did most of the teaching rather then the professor through group presentations.
Professor Shaw is so awesome! She is willing to work with you and wants you to succeed. Participation matters and turning in your assignments, but there is also a lot of chances for extra credit. If you put in the effort, you will for sure get an A. I loved her and would for sure take her again!
Professor Shaw is so awesome! She is so understanding and wants you to succeed! You have to participate and do all your assignments, but there are a lot of opportunities for extra credit. I loved her and would for sure take her again!
is a good teacher. do the work and you will do well. she wants you to do well in your class.
She was a very caring professor, but did not learn very much in this class. If you go to every class you will get an A.
She is really helpful. She gives a lot of extra credit options. Attending class is important.
Few easy quizzes online, takes roll and that about it.
Good professor. She is really nice and very reasonable. Offers extra credit throughout the semester. Not a hard grader. If you show up and try you'll definitely pass!
Great class, lots of extra credit, the lowest 4 scored quizes were dropped. Super awesome professor.
Enjoy it! It's a fun class
She was way sweet and awesome! It was also a superrrr easy class to pass.
Awesome professor and gives good feed back when you ask for it. Attend class as participation and attendance are part of your grade . As long as you do the assignments and the quizzes you'll get a good grade in this class.
Professor Shaw is the best professor! She's witty, and all of her assignments are super easy. Even if you don't do some assignments, she offers a ton of extra credit! Take this class for an easy A!
Awesome teacher. Organized and very helpful. The class is really fun to take and was always enjoyable to go to. Discussions in class were great and the teacher organized the assignments really well.
Very very easy A. Show up to class, do all of the online quizzes and speeches and you'll do just fine. 3 online tests, open book. Although, I didn't learn as much as I would've like to it was so easy so I would take this professor again. A bit boring a times though.
Great professor. Super easy class. Just show up, write the easy papers and you'll be fine. She offers multiple extra credit opportunities. Interesting take on interpersonal communication. I really liked how she ran the class.
Pretty easy class. Normal amount of essays. Very laid back lectures.
Professor Shaw was a very nice lady, however, I did not feel that she taught us very well. We did group projects that lasted the entire semester where we taught the entire class. I think I learned more from my peers than the professor. The tests were open note open book, however, she does require that you come to class for participation points.
Professor Shaw is a very nice lady. The lectures are done by other students in the class, but the tests are easy. If you want an easy A, do the work and come to class.
Great Teacher! Very chill.
Prof. Shaw was super nice. She's easy to talk to and is pretty lenient on her grading.
Prof. Shaw is amazing. She is very understandable and she reminds me of my 3rd grade teacher, very sweet and never raises her voice or anything.
Professor Shaw is very helpful, caring and REASONABLE. She gives you a lot of extra credit opportunities. You will have to write papers, discussion posts and three exams online. Class attendance is part of your grade.
Prof Shaw is very nice. The course is incredibly easy and she gives TONS of extra credit opportunities. You do need to write some papers but none of them are long. All the tests are online including the final.
She is AMAZINGGGG!!!! She is wonderful, as a teacher and as a person. Always tries to help students in every way. I love her, without doubt the best teacher I've ever had.
I absolutely loved this professor. She is super sweet and understanding. This class can easily be passed if you just show up and are ready to discuss and work in groups.
Prof. Shaw is really nice and easy to talk to. The work is easy & simple.
Very patient and understanding.
Professor Shaw does a good job at switching up activities for class. She does not however, teach at a college level. If you want an easy class and to feel like you are in middle school again, take her class. It was definitely a "fluff" course.
Kathy is a really nice lady. She repeats herself a lot and over-explains everything. She gives plenty of extra credit. The class itself is easy as long as you show up and are prepared. I was really looking forward to the public speaking class to learn better skills and I was severely disappointed. The curriculum focuses mainly on writing speeches.
I really disliked this course the first part of the semester, but came to appreciate it later. Prof Shaw is a no-nonsense instructor, but very kind and fair. The material gets pretty tedious at times but, so long as you attend and turn assignments in on time, it's very easy. I really came to respect Prof Shaw the more I worked one-on-one with her.
Lots of work, but not really difficult. Lots of extra credit
Professor Shaw is a great teacher and wants to see her students excel. She also understands that this class is required and is very understanding in grading and opportunities for extra credit.
Professor Shaw is a great teacher. She's very patient and wants her students to succeed. She's easy to get a hold of when you have any questions and is very enthusiastic about what she teaches. Her grading is very fair and there are plenty of extra credit opportunities.
I had a very good time in this class, I learned a lot more and I got the help I needed.
Very good class
I really learn to be confident with speaking in front of an audience.
Professor Shaw is awesome. A lot of extra credit opportunities. Great class to take to improve your public speaking and communication skills.
she worked with me and made sure i passed the class .
Shes funny funny and sweet. Will work with you if you show that you actually care!
The time between speeches is very slim, only a week between. When caught up between multiple classes its some-what difficult to stay on top.
She is an extremely nice and understanding professor. If somethings doesn't work for you then she is willing to work with you and your schedule.
Very clear on expectations
Prof. Shaw wants you to excel in her class! She offers a lot of extra credit and is sensitive to the needs of her students.
I took this class as a required general. Teacher was pretty soft spoken and nice. She does have participation points each day you come to class, but i missed about half the semester and still got a B in the class. Class if fairly easy.
Very good class!
Super fun Teacher! Kind of scattered but for the most part pretty fun! Just didn't learn tons about speeches. haha
She is very kind, but not the most clear or direct when giving instructions in class. She is was to reach outside of class and works with you well. Lots of writing speeches, but not much guidance. No class time to write speeches.
She is a great teacher, very kind. I would recommend taking her.
As long as you prepare for the speeches you will be fine. It was a fun course, get to know classmates really well. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
I wasn't too excited to take this course, but Professor Shaw made public speaking a lot more easier and less stressful than it use to be for me. She cares about her students and does everything she can to make her students succeed in her class.
Professor Shaw is a nice person, but from perspective, not a qualified university level instructor. Her understanding of the coursework set by the department was scattered, grading was inconsistent, and lectures were nothing more than a confusing review of what we read in the text book and assignment instructions.
Very nice teacher, you'll learn the most from the workbook and textbook though. I worked very hard on this class. LOTS of work, but all 1020 classes are the same workload now. Ebook is awesome! I finally enjoyed reading course material because of it's presentation. Workbook is helpful. Show up, do your best work, keep an open mind on doing stuff.
Just be ready to prepare a lot of speeches. You have to work for an A.
PRO: I appreciated how she was neutral on every subject, and did not interject her opinions. her feedback was helpful on paper, but I did not receive much verbal feed back. VERY fare professor and is very willing to work if "Life" happens CON: The new curriculum for class was not shared very well, but she is leaning how to and will improve I'm sur
A somewhat easy class. I did find myself putting in more work in to speeches/homework in this class than any other classes combined. There will be something that you are doing for this class every day. The speech with research and visual aids takes about 6 hours to complete and practice. The specific outlines that they ask for also takes another 2.
It's a tough class in terms of speech giving but professor walks you through it! You have to attend for credit but also to benefit from other speeches. This class gets people to know each other better.
Of course for a public speaking class, you're bound to give speeches. The speeches were fairly straight forward and the outlines helped, but sometimes you don't have as much time to prepare as you'd like. Prof. Shaw is kind and helpful and funny, but sometimes the classes are lecture heavy and a bit monotonous.
She's funny and nice but grades hard
She literally taught lectures straight from the book which wasn't my favorite. I also didn't like that she shifted assignments and criteria around at times. Overall though, she's nice, clear, and fair. Pretty rigid with grading standards, but she's consistent about it, and always grades on time. Kind of a boring class overall, but I didn't hate it.
Kathy Shaw was a great teacher! She won't just hand you a grade, but if you will go to class and stay on top on homework you will pass. She will tell you up front that it's a lot of work, but is possible. Great attitude all the time and very easy to work with. Full of insights and creates a great class environment.
Prof Shaw was a great professor! She's a little "old school" with certain things like phones, talking in class, etc. but it was never a huge issue. This class is super easy as long as you put the work into it. She has clear guidelines and is understanding. She also gives more extra credit than the other COMM professors. Take COMM 1020 from her :)
Gives TONS of extra credit! Show up for attendance and so you know the dates for your speech and you will be fine, she inst a particularly hard grader either.
I actually really enjoyed her COMM 2110 class. I took it online so I did not interact with her personally but I really enjoyed the layout and her videos she makes. She is very responsive to emails (usually within the same day) and is very kind and understanding. She even let me turn in a paper late because I got overwhelmed with life.
Professor Shaw was straight forward about assignments. She answered questions (for an online class) pretty quickly. Having to do 30-40 practice questions after each reading was annoying. But the concepts that are taught are pretty eye-opening.
Good online class to take for both majors and non-majors. Everything was very straightforward, from the homework, quizzes, exams, and final project. I especially liked that the textbook was provided via McGraw Hill Connect program. It made textbook reading easier and applicable to the content in class. It wasn't too much homework.
Professor Shaw is an exceptional teacher. I had her for a required Public Speaking class (COMM 1020) and she's understanding, clear, and gives ample time for all assignments. She's willing to work with you if stuff comes up, and she's also very easygoing if you'd like to do something unconventional for a particular assignment. Would recommend!
Professor Shaw is super funny and really wants you to succeed. She won't give you the A, but will make you meet the criteria to earn it. She is an entertaining teacher, I would recommend taking a class from her.
I took her online comm 2110 class. The homework is manageable, although the end of the semester gets a little rough. The final was creating a powerpoint, an outline of the powerpoint, and filming a presentation of myself. The week before, we had to write a big paper for a signature assignment as well. Other than these last two weeks, it was easy.
Professor. Shaw is an amazing teacher! She teaches all the concepts very well and if you ever have any questions, she is more than happy to answer them. She is very considerate/nice when she grades your assignments and speeches. She made this course a lot more enjoyable than what I imagined it to be.
she is an excellent teacher; she teaches everything you need to be an excellent public speaker at first I was scared to take this class because I was frightened to speak in public but after this class, I feel more comfortable to speak in public now.
very nice and easy going
good teacher. very helpful. cares about the students.
I took this course online. Good professor, however, a lot of work.
Keep up on the work and you will do just fine in the class.
Professor Shaw was a great teacher, graded everything fairly, responded quickly to questions or concerns, and always posted input on assignments turned in. Couldn't have had a better Communications experience.
Professor Shaw was wonderful! I tried to take this class from someone else at UVU and so dropped out and I was so worried about having to try again but she was amazing. She told us exactly what we needed to do to have success and pass the class. She also is super nice with extra credit and is super caring! Take her it will save you! :)
Professor Shaw is amazing, I really enjoyed her class. If you want a good grade, get ready to work. What I loved most about this class were the discussions.
I was afraid to take this class because Im not too good with speaking in front of others without being afraid. This class helped me boost my confidence in that area. Also, I would recommend doing the extra credit. It is the easiest extra credit ever. Kathleen gives great feedback and I would definitely take from her again!
I took this as an online class. Sometimes, I wasn't sure what exactly was going to be on quizzes, but if you read the chapter and answer the questions the site you use asks and actually try to learn the stuff, you'll probably do fine. This class was done through McGraw Hill, so the textbook was provided and you didn't have to buy it, which was nice
KATHLEEN SHAW IS THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER. I LOVE HER SO SO MUCH. I have taken a few classes from her and I have never loved a professor so much. She is the most caring lady. She makes class so fun :)
Professor Shaw was very helpful. I took the class online. As long as you stay on top of deadlines for assignments and study the material, then you'll do fine. She is very helpful and gives good feedback on your assignments.
Online Comm 2110. All assignments due on Sunday night. Easy to stay caught up. A few papers but overall very easy work and way to learn. Glad I took it from her!
Good online class, good professor, hard tests, a lot of reading.
This class was super easy. The book was online and was a lot cheaper than a hard copy. The requirements for the class were laid out extremely well and none of the speeches were difficult. There was also a ton of extra credit so even if you bombed the tests you could make up a lot of points with extra credit.
I took this class online and it was really quite easy. Just do the reading (you get points for completing it on the ebook) and the weekly discussions and you will do fine. There are papers here and there but nothing serious. Pretty enjoyable and straightfoward
Great teacher overall! Enjoyed her class and humor. High expectations, but they are able to be achieved. Points for attendance. Prepare to write A LOT of speeches. I guess it's the curriculum, but it's a bit much Only criticism is that she is not the most organized. Always double check the due dates she give you in class and check it with her.
She is very nice and cares about you. You know what is expected of you and the book lays it all out for you. I followed the book almost exactly and got almost full points every time.
A really caring teacher who does her best to help you succeed.
So caring of all her students and is VERY clear about the outline of the class and what she expects. There is reading out of the textbook each week, but it is a breeze. Lots of speeches, but we're in college and that's apart of the class. She isn't a hard grader and wants to help you be better. Easy A. Also, gives TONS of extra credit
Great teacher had her for public speaking as well!
The course wasn't too bad. There is plenty of work as expected with an online course. There wasn't an excessive amount of work to be done though. It was very manageable. I enjoyed the way that the class was structured and I thought that the discussions were very applicable.
Took the online course which was well structured and enjoyable.
Took it online. Lots of papers and discussions. Never got 100% on anything except quizzes and tests (quizlet helps).
This is a very fun class, you have to do a lot of reading and there are quizzes at the end of each chapter. the nice thing that you are graded on reading. Not to hard to pass if you do the major assignment.
I really enjoyed the subject matter and that made this class much more fun. Lots of reading but the smartbook feature made it easier to keep up on. Not too difficult as long as you don't procrastinate.
Great class due date at the end of the week. easy reading and she gets back to you fast with any questions.
Great Teacher! This was an online class and Professor Shaw was quick to respond to my emailed questions. We were required to post on a discussion board and it was apparent that she took the time to read each posting. She would make specific comments on the grading rubric so that you knew how well you had done along with suggestions for improvement.
At the beginning of the semester I had questions about APA format and Professor Shaw was willing to answer the questions I had. She is willing to work with students and give feedback after each assignment to help them succeed. your grade is a direct reflection of what you put into the class.
Professor Shaw is resourceful, gives great feedback, and grades assignments in a reasonable amount of time. You will know where you are from start to finish and she is happy to answer questions and work with you to create success. There is a moderate amount of reading and participation is required. She is great and I would recommend her course!
Prof. Shaw is friendly and overall a good teacher. For the online course, she only required one video speech and there were a few papers. Her grading and comments were usually very helpful.
Fine teacher for a general.
Great teacher, would recommend her to anyone who just is trying to get a grade.
Professor Shaw takes the time to really analyze the quality of your work. She makes sure that the pertinent information is clearly laid out and allows a simple methodology for retention. I would highly recommend to those seeking to understand subject matter within the Communication field.
I dreaded this class at first. But I learned so much. A lot of things that will help me both in school and at work. Professor Shaw was always willing to help, she was understanding, and very responsive to questions. I highly recommend this class and her as the professor!
My second time taking from Ms. Kathleen and what a joy it is. Her grading is fair and concise and I enjoy the feedback I get from her. If I could, I'd have her as a professor every semester. She genuinely cares about each student who takes from her and checks up on them. What a peach!
This class was online so it wasn't too personable, but all assignments, quizzes, and exams are pretty straight forward and nothing too difficult. There is a textbook, but it's located online in canvas so it comes with the course and is useful for each and every set of assignments, quizzes, and exams. Overall a pretty smooth course and no complaints
Professor Shaw was a really nice professor, and was very easy to get a hold of and communicate with. There is a lot of busywork in the COMM1020 class, but it helps you to prepare for the big speech assignments. No late work is accepted so make sure you get everything in on time. If you work hard you'll do great.
This is a pretty easy and straightforward class. There's a lot of assignments and papers, but as long as you keep on track and schedule yourself enough time you should be fine. Make sure to read the textbook over to highlight key terms, as you will need them for the tests and when writing papers. Professor Shaw was easy to get a hold of via Canvas
Professor Shaw was absolutely amazing! I was a little worried about the class but it was so doable and she helped in any way possible. She made expectations very clear and made sure that we all understood exactly what we need to do and how to fix mistakes that we had made. I really appreciated having her as a teacher!
Great class. Not hard at all. The reading assingments are really easy. If you put in a little effort you will get an A.
She was nice overall, and replied satisfactorily to all questions I had. Didn't have any lectures, as it was an online class. Bit harsh on the speech grading, but shouldn't be too hard to pass.
This was a great class! The teacher clearly defines their expectations. If you put in a reasonable amount of effort, you'll get a good grade.
Great class. She tells you her expectations and stands by her rubric. If there is ever a discrepancy or issue, she is sure to address it with the entire class through announcements.
Intensive writing, was not my cup of tea. But as long as you get your stuff done you'll get a good grade.
She tries to work with you.
Professor Shaw was great! I don't think that the homework was TOO heavy considering it was an online class. There is a required textbook that comes with the course fees because the weekly quizzes are attatched to the book. If you spread the work out (lecture notes, quizzes, discussions) during the week it is manageable. Keep up & an A is possible!
I took this class for generals online, but it was pretty straight forward and simple as long as you stay on top of the work.
A solid online class.
I liked the class and the teacher whenever we actually interacted with her. However, she believes this class should be the most important thing and that really bugs me. I understand it is important but it is not my top priority with work, family, and other classes
She was awesome!! Super easy to get ahold of, always responds to emails in a timely manner. Her lectures are really thought out. I enjoyed the class very much and learned a lot!
I liked having a weekly routine. It was a very straightforward class. She wasn't amazing, but she definitely wasn't the worst either. She responds in a timely manner to questions. Sometimes the paper topics were hard. The grader was very picky.
I thought that this class was informative, and fairly easy. She was pretty clear about what she wanted, and if things didn't work like she wanted them to, she was willing to adapt and change. I took the class online, and most all of it was out of the textbook. There wasn't a whole lot of teacher student interaction. I just had to teach myself.
Prof Shaw is great! This is an online class for COMM 2110 and it was my favorite class. Every week you read the online book, participated in a discussion, then on Sunday you took the chapter quiz. Every now and then she threw in some papers but they weren't hard at all and were about interesting topics.
Took the class online, so not sure how the professor is during lecture, but the online course was really well organized with a very clear path to success.
Professor Shaw was awesome! She was quick to respond with answers to any questions that you might have had and was really accommodating throughout the course. She provided clear instructions on what she expected and how to be successful in her class. She also provided a TON of extra credit opportunities, which was awesome.
She is a great teacher but is very strick and deadlines are deadlines if you miss it by a minutes then thats it. do work before the due date and its an easy A if your too busy to do things before the due date becarefull. I didnt do as good because I was ot very good with getting things done early.
This was a great online class! I loved that you do not have to present in front of a whole class, but she does grade tough on your speeches. The outlines and rubrics she provides helps a ton though!
She was very accessible. Answered any questions in a prompt manner. If there were IT issues with TurnItIn she would extend outlines. I would say a few papers felt like busy work, but the grading expectations were very clear. Overall, easy class if you keep up on the work.
Not being a traditional student, busy with 2 jobs, a family and kid activities, along with taking too many classes, sometimes things were forgotten. I had taken the class online and Shaw was always available. She was understanding and would always accommodate me when I fell behind. She is a great teacher, has humor, definitely would take again.
Professor Shaw is great! TA made a couple of errors... like once she thought she was emailing the professor about a grading decision, but she sent it to everyone instead. Professor Shaw is easily contacted, and makes real efforts to communicate well with her students. If you don't progress in this class it's your own fault. Good for working ppl.
She is great at being responsive and helping you when you ask for it
She does a good job of responding to you if you have any problems and is very helpful. I noticed she is a very tough grader. From what I could see nobody got 100% on a speech. I would recommend taking this class in person if you would like to actually learn how to publicly speak. Otherwise you just learn to film yourself.
Professor Shaw is fair in her grading and gives solid feedback. She was always easy to contact when I needed help or clarification. If you put in the work you will do fine in her class.
Class was fairly easy, there are a lot of papers however.
Her class was fine, there are a lot of papers. I took it online and it can be a lot of work. I would suggest making a set schedule every week for what you are going to do each day in the class to make sure you get the assignments done for the week.
I really liked her. I took an online class, but she was very responsive to my emails and helped answer my questions. I really enjoyed the class and thought it was interesting. It wasn't too difficult, but you have to give a good effort. I would definitely take her again.
I took an online course from her and really enjoyed it. The coursework was very well organized and she communicated well to make sure that it was obvious what was due and when. Assignments are due at regular intervals so if you pace yourself you should have no trouble keeping up.
I would take again. She offers a lot of recourses for an online course.
The workload is the same every week. You do some reading on the online textbook. Then you answer the questions that are associated with the reading. Then you participate in an online discussion. Then you take the chapter quiz. And every once in awhile, a paper is also thrown into the workload. It's not the most difficult class, but it's monotonous.
I took this class online so we had to post discussion questions. The questions weren't hard you just have to remember to do them every week. All the quizzes and the 3 tests were given through the online book. We did have to write several papers in the class and give a final presentation where we had to record ourselves and make a powerpoint.
Video lectures were good. Didn't grade too harshly. The only thing that I wish she would have done differently would be to not lock the study notes after each section was passed. I didn't save them, and then couldn't go back to view them when studying for a later course exam.
I found her class very interesting, and hard at times. The exams and quizzes really make you think. The concepts are challenging and can be hard to grasp. I would recommend this course to any who need to further their understanding of communication.
Really enjoyed the course. She was a good professor as well, she was always on top of things.
I took the Public Speaking class online and it was great especially if public speaking makes you nervous. The coursework consisted of a chapter reading and reading quiz. We had three exams which I thought were quite difficult. We had to go to the public speaking lab but that can be done over Skype. And our speeches were presented by video.
This was an online so everything was pretty straight forward. Keep up with the assignments week to week and you should get a solid grade in the class.
Straight forward online class. Papers throughout the semester, but nothing too crazy. She is very quick to respond and the grading is reasonable. Great class.
Good professor. Fun discussion boards (I took the online course). Easy to contact/fast response.
Grades heavily on APA. TA does most of the grading. Easy to get in contact with. Homework consisted of an assignment, discussion, quiz, and an extra journal or topic paper per chapter.
It was an online class so you can more or less go at your own pace throughout the week. She was a helpful teacher and always responded quickly to questions.
Very good teacher, as long as you stay on top of your work you will pass. The assignments are not very tough.
Professor Shaw keeps up with grading and sticks to a clear grading rubric for all of the assignments. Seems simple but if you read these rubrics beforehand and keep the criteria in mind when doing your assignments, you'll do really well in this class.
I enjoyed her online course. There was a lot of busy work, almost every week there was a quiz, a chapter to read, online discussion, and a paper. I made the mistake of not writing a reflection my first week and lost points. Enjoyed the material though and would absolutely take this professor again!
I really enjoyed taking this course online from Prof. Shaw. It was set up so well and I learned so much. She had great expectations and was quick to respond. I would take from her again.
Lots of busy work but the class was pretty straightforward.
You will be tied to a weekly discussions, and you will be required to respond throughout the week. You will not be able to work ahead, so if you thought you were taking an online class to get ahead try elsewhere. She seems to be a fine teacher, though assignments may not be graded by her, which means it may not get the greatest feedback.
I took this class online. Be ready to read! Lots of ready and quizzes based off what you read. Exams are also all based off the readings. Professor Shaw is very understanding and always provides good feedback and will respond and give answers to any questions you ask. I would take her again.
I took this class online and it was a lot of work. You have weekly readings, online discussions about criteria with students online and you have to give speeches, lots of them! The work is not hard whatsoever and neither are the speeches but you have to stay on top from day one or your grade will fall quickly and youll never be able to catch up.
Tests and quizzes were easy. Near the end of the semester I skipped a fairly significant presentation but still got a B+. Overall, the class was pretty easy and many of the assignments were short and tedious.
I took this class online and I thought it was great. There is some reading like usual but it never took that long for me and it helped when creating the speeches.
The online Comm-2110 class is about what you would expect from an online comm class. She uses McGraw Hill Connect for the online textbook. You do a section out of the book, homework on that section, a quiz and a discussion every week. There are a few papers, but they're not that hard. The last assignment is making a powerpoint and video presentatio
overall good online course however a lot of work, and is not very lenient with certain aspects of the course and understanding.
Online course. There were a lot of sections to read through every week, so be prepared for that. The exams were open note, and you can create 'style sheets' as you read through the sections for a total of 35 extra credit points at the end of the semester. She really cared to make sure you did good on the exams and gave very detailed instructions.
She is a fair professor you do the work and you get the grade it's as simple as that she grades fairly and cares about your success in her class. I had probably one of the most positive learning experiences I've had in my entire time in college in her class.
