**For Uni 1** Kathleen is a good teacher. She's very passionate about the material and gets information across well. However she can be very condescending and will call you out if you can't answer questions in front of the class. If you ask her a question she will answer it in sometimes painful detail. Do the reading and don't pull out your phone!
She is great, but kinda annoying and a hard grader.
As a student who normally excels in humanities, I barely passed this class. Her notes are unclear, and she can be quite rude to her students. She has no consistent grading method, and even when you follow her specific instructions down to the letter, she'll find a way to fail you. Would not recommend.
Kathleen is a passionate humanities teacher who expects 3 things: participation, respect and attention, and for you to put things together on your own. She loves answering questions and offers help a lot. Assignments are fine. If you wanna learn and can brush off the odd condescending remark, her class can be very interesting and fun.
She is a really sweet old lady. If you participate, show up on time and ask lots of questions she'll love you. Sometimes she puts students on the spot to answer questions or get mad at a student walking in late. She puts a lot of emphasis on detail and everything has to be exact for exams/ homework.
Could be disorganized at times. Can be scary. Strange grading. Take at your own risk
Kathleen is extremely unclear in her grading criteria and refuses to answer questions directly. She can also be extremely condescending. Even if you are a consistent honour roll student with 90+ averages in every other class, you may get mutliple very low grades despite following every instruction to a tee. Avoid this woman at all costs.
Please avoid this teacher. She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Extremely passive-aggressive, downright rude, refuses to answer questions clearly and repeats herself over and over. She is the only teacher I have ever had who's class I truly regret taking, and not for the grades, which were fine, but for how truly horrible it was.
I don't have respect for this teacher because she forces group work AND picks your partners AND makes it a group grade worth more than 30% of your total grade. This is an injustice due to the r-score system. She says she makes it fair because if people don't participate she penalizes them, but even if they do, their work quality might still be bad.
Her lectures weren't clear and she talked a lot about unrelated things. Need to pay attention in class. There's a lot of material that she doesn't teach in class and that you will only learn by reading the assigned homework. Her exams weren't difficult, but she's a very tough grader. She's also a little unorganized, so we get lost material wise.
It would be a severe understatement to say that this woman is by far the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. I truly have trouble finding the words to express the poor quality of her teaching. I got decent grades so this isn't just being petty. Truly, if you want to have a fair, pleasant, and enriching learning experience, avoid at all costs.
Kathleen is easily one of the worst teachers I've ever had at Abbott. The students essentially teach the class for her, and she spent almost every class complaining about us. She used her own personal issues as excuses for not helping us more constantly, and her grading criteria made little to no sense.
at first i enjoyed her class then it gradually started going downhill. she would assign MAJOR projects and papers with little time to complete them and on top of that she would barely explain the instructions and get mad when we couldnt read her mind. tough grader but easy to pass with a mid 70 if you participate at least once or twice every class
I can say with complete certainty that Kathleen Donahue is the worst teacher I have ever had throughout my education. She will force her opinions down your thought and kick you off the Teams meeting if you disagree. She flexes on the fact that her class average is in the sixties even though her teaching method is horrific. AVOID HER AT ALL COST!
Mid-semester, I found myself seeking counseling services as I was in a large amount of emotional distress. The prof acknowledged this and repeatedly told me it was fine if I submitted some of my work late. It apparently meant nothing though, as I still got 0% for the late submission of that project. Other than that, the class was really easy.
She's... not mean but... interesting... She can be a little bit confusing at times and her class can be boring and feel really disorganized. She talks about things and you're supposed to take notes without clearly knowing what is important for the final exam. She doesn't use power points and she expects you to read the material in the course pack.
I took Greek and Roman civilization (first semester humanities). Her lectures can be boring if youre not interested. I recommend that you take notes. Although a bit unorganized, I always found her very kind and helpful. As long as you participate and do your work properly, youll be fine. Only complaint: takes very long to grade assignments .
The teacher was unorganized and did not know how to clearly explain the work she was assigning. She also expected work to be done but did not set dates or explain what needed to be done. I feel like the class could have been easy if she would have clearly explained everything. She seems relatively nice but I do not recommend her as a teacher.
Shes a very nice lady, however her lectures are all over the place and doesnt get much done in class. You need to take notes however the way she does her lectures are so confusing that you dont even know what to write down. I did well in her class but I worked hard and did have difficulty understanding her explanations.
Kathleen was so kind and went out of her way to pass me.
I hated her. I have never regretted having a teacher so badly. For our final project she would not tell us the due date for it only the week of because and I quote "she has been doing this for over 20 years" and knows what's best when in reality students need to know when a 25% project is due and not the week of.
Very kind woman. You can tell she cares about her job and her students. I've taken her class two semesters in a row and have really enjoyed her as a person as well as her course.
Kathleen is a miserable sack of potatoes, has no regard for anyone in the class, and rambles continuously about her own problems. Expect to fail no matter what class you take with her, she speaks like a donkey. But don't worry, she's been doing this for "20 years". Has a 50-minute speech at the end of the semester, run!!!
There are many words to describe Ms. Donahue, such as very rude, won't answer questions, knows everything, can't be wrong... and the list goes on. Class average in the 30-40's heading into the last week of school. If you take this class I hope you enjoy being lost and confused because you are entering the schizophrenic world of Ms. Donahue:)
The worst teacher I ever had in my entire life, was strict for nothing and tells you to read a 45-minute long article for homework to only not talk about it in class. Please for your R score don't take this teacher please I'm begging you.
Had her for Greek & Roman. Sherwood spends 90% of her classes rambling about unrelated subjects, is extremely rude and passive aggressive to her students, and most importantly never actually teaches you anything! Also, tough grader and doesn't allow phones so you're stuck listening to her crazy rants for hours. Do yourself a favour and run. :D
Run!! Do not recommend her. -Tough grader -rude and unapproachable. She occasionally refuses to answer questions. -very unorganized. -long and useless lectures. She is good in nature, however, if you get to be stuck with her for a semester, rip.
Avoid her. If you can't, brace yourself for the worst semester. She is disorganized, chronically late, and highly condescending. She does not provide clear rubrics and gives assignment instructions a week before 20%+ work is due. Classes involve her ranting about irrelevant topics. She grades haphazardly, nothing is ever good enough for her.
constantly assigned big projects(20-30% of final grade) less than a week to their deadlines. She can be quite rude, does not answer questions and often gets mad when they're asked. She treats you like children, and creates a stressful environment. Unless you're extremely mentally healthy, i would not take a class with her, she will break you.
She is highly disorganized. If you ask her questions or follow-ups about your marks, she gets extremely frustrated. Assignments only got corrected on the last day of grade submission. Unfortunately, I was extremely excited to do this class and learn more; however, it came with many challenges.
nope nope nope do not do it
She is very sweet. I took her for greek & roman civ and again for ethics of travel and you can get 95-100 on pretty much all her work as long as you care about the course itself and actually put time and effort into doing her big assignments. If you don't know what she wants, talking to her will help (unless its something she said in class)
I had Kathleen for Travel Ethics and take my advice... DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! She refuses to answer questions, she's very condescending, and she's a really tough grader.
you can tell she cares but very tough grader, talks too much and doesn't take online assignments.
She expects you to know everything about the whole course all the time and will get mad if you don't. if you are shy, don't take this class, she WILL call on you. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
In 2 years at Abbott, one teacher stands out as the outright WORST, and it's baffling she's avoided academic review. With 20 years under her belt, one would expect a positive classroom environment. Instead, her class is dreaded, often called an "R score TANKER", a significant detriment to students' academic records. A review by the dean is overdue.
She tries her best to make the class interesting, but it's just not. Her instructions are not clear and she grades extremely harshly. Most of your grade is based on two projects, one of which is an oral presentation (worth 45%). Good luck getting a grade above 70. Do not ask questions in her class, you will just get yelled at. Just don't do it.
always late but when you're late gets so mad, gets mad when you ask a question, unclear with assignments but if you ask for clarity gets mad, boring lectures and speaks in an annoying tone, after every class your energy will literally be drained, do NOT take her you will regret it!!!!!!
Kathleen is very sweet but her grading is very delayed. I only got grades from projects from the beginning of the semester at the dawn of the grade submission deadline. Projects are interesting and we learn a lot but it's as heavy as a core class, even more. Lots of work to do, always be present and proactive or else you'll miss something important
TERRIBLE I cannot express how much hate I had for this class. The concept was nice, learning about travelling sounds fun but she just made it so unbearable. My class started at 8:30 and would finish at 11:30. I SWEAR TO GOD she only let you out at 11:28 and if you tried leaving earlier she'd call you out and try to stop you.
DO NOT TAKE HER!! She is a horrible teacher in every way imaginable: -Posts 70% of grades on the day of grade submission deadline -Instructions are unclear -Takes 2 weeks to reply to your MIO -Makes a lot of excuses on why her grading and replying are slow -Grading criteria is so unclear, you will get a failing grade even if you do what she wants.
I'll be honest, I dropped her course after four weeks so I don't have the full view. Still, in those four weeks, she showed herself to be a deeply condescending person, in a disorganized course (but don't worry about it, because she's been doing this for 20 years). The course is not too difficult, but for your sanity, you have other options.
20 years in this domain and she has 20+ 1 star... How is she even allowed to teach. Her instructions are unclear, she takes the WHOLE 3 hours of class with a small 10 minute break. Save yourselves.
Dont take this class, shes so unorganized, her instructions are very unclear, im honestly surprised shes still a teacher, she gets mad at students for not knowing what material when theyve never seen it before and she always talks about how she knows what shes doing because shes been doing this for 20+ years. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
knew from the first day that i was cooked. she's by far the worst humanities teacher i've ever taken. She takes the full 3 hours and gives a tiny 10 min break. She always kicks people out of class for using ur phone. Ur not allowed to use ur computer either. often gets into arguments with students because her instructions don't make sense. Run.
No one words to describe how this was the worst class of my life. She barley teaches, no grading rubrics, grades based on her feelings. DO NOT TAKE. The worst teacher, has nothing to do with her as a person but she should not be teacher. She's super strict and argues with you on everything. Stubborn and stuck in her ways, unorganized. RUN!!!
I would rather get SKINNED ALIVE with a rusty potato peeler for MONTHS on end then spend another day within the same room as her. No grading rubric what so ever, probably has a gambling addiction and she takes out her anger on her "students". Otherwise she's really #TechSavvyyy and every class felt like a stand up comedy show!! :)
Terrible. No words can explain how BAD SHE is at her job. "I've teached this for nearly 20 years..." and the class average is barely passing. I've attended 90% of classes and did all her work. Her grading is out of this world, you give her want she wants and you get a 50%. She needs an academic revision and needs to retire.
Kathi is the worst teacher Ive ever had at Abbott. She throws tantrums in class. She made all of our lives a living h--- especially considering the fact it is just a humanities class. She makes us handwrite every assignment including a 40-50 source full bibliography with proper format. She labels you based on what she thinks your ethnicity is.DONT TAKE
DO NOT TAKE HER! DROP CLASS IMMEDIATELY! she Is the worst teacher at abbott, so condescending and is in dire need of an academic review. my worst academic decision was staying in her class. run before it is too late please!!!!!
Read all the 1 stars is all I have to say. Dodge urself a bullet and drop her class. She gives out the grades towards the end of the semester. I handed in my itinerary week 5 or 6 and received the grade June 2nd 2 days before the deadline. RUN WHILE YOU CAN
HORRILBE TEACHER, DO NOT TAKE HER Check all the other 1 star reviews. She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She posted 20/100 by the end of the semester and posted the rest on grade deadline day. She cares too much about her irrelevant class and will be passive aggressive towards you. Her 45h class can be summarized in a 20min YouTube video.
Seriously. Have you seen a teacher with 40+ one star reviews?? Im seriously surprised she hasnt been fired (though she brags about how the deans constantly argue with her). Super unclear guidelines, and when you ask to clarify shes very condescending. If you have to take her because theres no more classes (like me), wait until next semester!!
AVOID AT ALL COST AVOID AT ALL COST AVOID AT ALL COST. Oh maybe I know a lot about her class because I binge watch oversimplified NO YOU DONT she will find a way to make you wrong. she was litterally edging my grade at the high 50s to brag or sum
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! Sucks I can't upload pictures because I would have uploaded my grades where she actively comments on every single one of them taunting my poor performance. I also would have uploaded an announcement saying we were terrible.
Sherwood is nice and definitely caring but her course is a punishment to her students. Refuses to accept online assignments, unclear instructions and very few things are graded. If that isn't bad enough, you aren't given your grades till essentially the end of the semester, so you're completely unsure if you're failing or not until its too late.
Doesn't "believe" in grading rubrics and gives vague instructions. She also doesn't answer MIOs when you have questions about her vague instructions until a couple of hours before class.
Do not take her. She does not follow any rubric, gives unclear instructions, changes them as we go along, shame us for asking questions relating to her instructions, gets insecure and shame her students when they correct her and much more. She is the worst teacher that I ever had, you SHOULD NOT take her class. Its a miracle she haven't gottenfired
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!! horrendous, she seems nice but its all a trick, was extremely condescending and I only had 5% of my whole entire grade by the end of the semester. If you have to choose between either taking her or no humanities choose NO humanties!!!!!!
If I had a dollar for every time she says it's always my science boys who don't understand.
lol, I just noticed if you scroll down, there is a 5 star review that says you can ask her questions unless it's something she already said in class XD XD XD She wrote that 100% looool
3/4 through the semester and only. know ≈10% of my grade, avoid teacher at all costs.
How do schools hire and keep people like this??? I dont even know my grade bro
Made me violently edge
"Guys, I've been doing this for 20 years, it doesn't change"
Straight up terrible. She will throw in everything to try and fail you. Gives pretty much no instructions. Uses no rubric and grades based off mood. Avoid at all cost
Terrible teacher.
Great content but horrible professor & horrible how she conducted her class. 0/10, do not recommend.
she is NOT online savvy 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Love being one day away from grade dealine with 40% of my mark left to go 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 top 3 worst teachers of all time
Doesnt use a rubric and will do everything to give you a terrible mark.
Brags about how her classes have low fail rate but in reality she just gives everyone 60 on purpose and fail the students she doesnt like.
No clue how she isn't fired yet
Does not know how to teach
She will wait for the last second to put in your grade and will grade you based off mood and how much she likes you. Do not take her classes
Refrain from taking her at all costs, I've had her for two semesters and it's the same thing every time. She only gives all of the grades back on the grade deadline so all semester you have no clue how you're doing, she expected students to know everything in the course that she's supposed teach. She has an attitude towards students as well.
She may seem sweet at first, but she has a tendency to be passive aggressive and condescending with students. You have a question? Don't bother MIO-ing her, it'll take a week for her to answer. Opt to visit during office hours instead. The assignments were fine, be prepared to do some spontaneous work in class. Skipping her class is a bad idea.
DO NOT TAKE, hard grader, and very condescending.
I took her for ethics of travel: AVOID, I don't care drop. DROP or you'll regret it. Pros: If you're participating a lot, you'll be her favorite, meaning bonus marks like -10%, she don't care if you went to the hospital, Cons: Lots of reading, Lots of homework, Controls a lot, "Nobody fails in my 20 years of experiences --> POV: 60% everyone.
seemed nice at first and i thought i would survive her class. I was horribly wrong. You need to be there for EVERY class for group activities. She does not "believe in grading grids" so you won't get any guidance. She reads the outline of the course twice and that's it. Literally called us "incapable little children" Overall, DON'T TAKE HER EVER!!
I took her for ethics of travel and another ancient civilization course. Super caring professor. We got along very well. Although, I cannot deny that she is strict and possibly condescending to students at times. I enjoyed her classes a lot.
The fact that she remains employed at this school demonstrates that teachers' unions don't always serve the best interests of education.
Had her for Greek and Roman Civilization, but don't recommend for any class. She will never call you by your name, doesn't tells us what to read, and can't keep her mind up about what are the assignments, and always changed when they were due, and sometimes never mentioned when they were due. If you are stuck with her good luck.
Absolute waste of time and space if you value waking up in the morning and enjoying your day you'll avoid this class at all costs.
I am the 68th 1 star. Read all the reviews but to keep it brief, waste of ur time, doesn't know what she's talking about, very confusing and unclear. She is genuinely the worst teacher i had in my lifetime.
69th awful.... nice..... no not nice.... YIKES!
Honestly if you're stuck with her just don't skip, do the readings and write down all the deadlines because nothing is posted on Lea. I didn't participate at all and got way over the average because she liked me (I took notes). Make sure to have 2-3 folders in your bad at all times because she loves asking for those on the spot. Good luck!
lectures were long, never finished early and often left me questioning if i learned anything or of she had just yelled at the class for two hours. does not clearly explain instructions or grading criteria. makes you answer short paragraphs at least once a week randomly. quizzes were easy if you paid attention to class lectures and took notes.
Ive had 3 different driving instructors independently bring up the fact that they know she's a bad teacher without me saying anything after I tell them I go to Abbott and I think that says enough about her quality.
Lectures are long and very repetitive. Very disrespectful and patronizing towards students, made a comment about someones weight. Instructions for projects are very vague. The class itself isnt very difficult but is made much harder due to her teaching style. Avoid this class at all costs
Never posts anything on lea, lectures are incredibly long and repetitive, very patronizing towards students, the class isnt too difficult as long as you pay attention and take notes. She also doesnt post the class average which makes it difficult to know how you are doing compared to others.
Honestly reviews are extreme I had her last semester and this very fair and if u almost every class, participate and take no ts s she love you and you'll do good. She does keep you the whole hour and a half and have heavy lectures and it's manageable
Too much information on essay= passive aggressive mio, have to use the bathroom= disrespect to the teacher voice your opinion too much= disrespecting the teacher doing too much work= again passive aggressive mio need to talk to her?= end up talking about politics every time If you can't read minds, don't take this class, she'll get upset
Old bag shows favouritism and communicates in an emotionally charged, condescending manner. Due to union protections, these behaviours appear unchecked, with real consequences for students whose education are negatively affected through no fault of their own. Godspeed to those reading this who are forced to take her course this semester.
