Very relatable teacher. She's not a straight-from-the-textbook teacher, and not too energetic that it's annoying. Very friendly and helpful with any assignment. No final test, just the usual midterms instead. She definitely wants everyone in the class to succeed. (she brings food/candy in occasionally)
Very helpful teacher and very enthusiastic about what she teaches. One of the nicest teachers on campus and she is always willing to help you pass with a good grade.
One of the most accommodating and helpful professors at Edmonds. Textbook use is heavy but lectures are the most important. Attend lecture days and you won't have a problem
Amazing teacher! You'll love her. She loves HIstory and the class was fun and pretty easy
Dr. Katie is awesome! So willing to help with anything. She absolutely loves what she teaches, she'll never have you memorize any dates, only important people and events. She won't ask you ridiculously specific questions on tests or quizzes. When she gives lectures, it's more like she's telling stories than teaching a class. I love this professor!
Best teacher at EDCC. A ton of extra credit opportunity, lectures are more like stories, highly recommend.
She's really sweet and you can tell that she cares a lot about her students; however, she tends to get really off topic and isn't the clearest of graders. Easy class overall and she will do everything to help you do well.
Katie is an amazing teacher, one of my absolute favorites at EDCC. I would take another one of her classes in a heartbeat. She's very well prepared for all her lectures and she will do everything within her power to help you pass the class. She hardly gives out any homework and as long as you pay attention to her lectures the tests will be easy.
Minimal homework and ridiculously easy quizzes. Lectures can drag on and she sometimes goes off on tangents. I actually felt bad, since I didn't learn much and she always tells us to study. Most of the stuff she lectures on, you won't even need to know. She goes over what will be on the exam beforehand, making them significantly easier.
Best instructor I've had
Easy class! the lectures are great and we had weekly quizzes. The only thing to worry about is the final presentation but other than that it's a great class.
Loved this class! Her lectures felt more like a story, so it made the content easy to follow and understand. The tests are easy. Studied 15 min before the mid-term and final and aced both.
She gives really good lectures that will keep you engaged, super sweet, she does not mark down late work. gave short 2 question quizzes every week and we had in class study days before the mid term and final. Defiantly recommend.
Katie is by far the best teacher I have had so far here at EdCC. She is so helpful, and to those who don't like history, she will definitely change your opinion. Her lectures are amazing and engaging, and she will definitely make you laugh.
She's a super kind a wonderful person. If you're just getting into history and want a teacher that will cover all the bases while providing insight into characters personalities, this is the one for you. To be honest I could have used a bit more of a challenge, but I had fun. Would take again.
Dr. Katie is a great teacher since she has a passion for teaching History. Also, she's a very helpful instructor who wants her students to succeed in life and her classes, you just gotta come to her class everyday. Do the homework and quizzes properly if you want to get good grades.
Taken two classes with her and one of the best teachers at Edmonds by far. She clearly cares for every student and respects every students individual needs. If you have any questions she will always take the time to help you. Love love love this teacher. If you're debating what teacher to take for a History course, definitely go with Katie!
Best teacher ever! I took History 146 with her & then took History 117, and by far, she is the sweetest professor I've ever had at EDCC. She gave us weekly quizzes, which were usually based off of her lectures. I would 100% recommend and take her class again!
This is my fourth time taking her class (4.0 every time)! She's amazing and I've learned so much from her classes.
Only two words: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Take her and you'll see that I'm right. :)
Dr. Simonton is one of my favorite teachers in all of EdCC. She is laid back and caring. She wants you to succeed and will reply to all emails within 12 hours (she replied to all of mine in less than 2). Participate in class and make an effort to get to know her and you'll be golden.
She was honestly the best teacher I ever had. My first quarter in Edmonds and I got her. She is very understanding and fun. She understood that I was new and did not know anything and she helped me in so many ways. We even share the same interest in history. Her lectures are not heavy and you can easily remember what she said. I recommend her!
Great Teacher! Passionate about history
Best teacher I've ever had. She is very knowledgeable and cares about her students.
I hope anybody gets the chance to take her class. it's actually blessed. Her lectures are always interesting and she always wants everybody to get a good grade. doing the weekly quizzes and doing the homework will be an easy A. one of the best teachers.
Although a textbook is required for this class, you don't necessarily need it because she provides you ppts and her lectures are very informative. Plus, you have to write your notes by hand and laptops are only allowed for research. If you dislike group projects, don't take this class. But the teacher is an amazing and caring person.
She is the most sweetest, kind, respected professor iv ever had she cares for every student and is willing to stay late if you need help. overall easy grader and gives good feedback. Just one thing dont laugh when she is in the middle of a lecture.
A wonderful teacher. the class was very easy but you still learn a lot. Just do the few assignments she tells you to do, and you can get a 4.0. the tests just require you to memorize names and places so make note cards and you will get an A.
Shes great
She's an awesome teacher. I took her class late in the day so she would bring us food sometimes. Her class wasn't stressful and her lectures were super interesting and she didn't give too much homework.
she was a fantastic teacher and made the lectures interesting and engaging 10/10 recomend her
Incredible and wonderful instructor. Her lectures are always fascinating to listen to, and she helps you learn.
She gives amazing and fun lectures, you'll need to pay attention and take notes. You don't really need the textbook unless you want it. She says everything you need to know in her lectures. There are some quizzes which are super easy. Not a lot of homework and there was an essay or two also, but she's very lenient with grading them.
awesome professor, i would take her class over and over again. i wish all the professors are like her. She's super chill and caring
Amazing history teacher! would definitely take her class again if there is a chance! you won't regret taking her class.
She is the best, and really funny. I would definitely take her class again. she even brings treats to class. DO HER HOMEWORK THOUGH!! and be nice to her
She is the best teacher you could ever have. Pay attention and take notes on slides. The quizzes are super easy and so is the final exam, she lets you use your notes. She also brings treats, which is pretty nice. Shes really nice and funny.
Kathleen is such an awesome instructor. She doesn't care about grades, she just cares that you show up to class eager to learn. There's a weekly quiz so make sure to take notes. There's a midterm, a final exam, and one group project. It's a very relaxed class and it was great having Kathleen for a teacher.
She's a great instructor! Class is mostly lectures, with some days for movies that go along with the material. She's so excited about history and cares a lot about her students and wants them to do well. Pay attention during lectures and take good notes, sometimes she can talk fast, so make sure to keep up. Weekly quiz, mid term, project, & final.
shes amazing and its an easy class for a history class
This teacher is amazing. She actually understands that not everyone wants to be a historian or cares about history at all and that's ok with her. If you truly care about 'history, she gives you plenty of areas to explore, but if it's not your cup of tea, then you don't have to.
She is the best history professor ever. I wish that I can take her class over and over again.
Incredible instructor. One of the best I have ever had. She is so full of energy and the enthusiasm she brings to the course is shared with her students. I love history and she makes it all the much better. Her class makes me wish I was a history major! She brings sweets and snacks often, and her quizzes and exams aren't at all hard.
Katie is passionate about history and she is so enthusiastic about everything. Her lectures are amazing! Please don't take her for granted...
Easy class, just show up for the lectures and take good notes. The online quizzes are also very easy. She is very caring and nice. Also brings treats most days which is awesome!
Katie always makes the class fun! She's really kind and she understands every single problem that we have. It's clear that she really loves history and wants us to enjoy history as well! She's amazing! You'll never regret taking her class!
Best teacher ever!
By far, the BEST teacher in the whole college. If a student didn't understand a certain topic she'll take the time to explain it. She's very caring, enthusiastic, and extremely nice. She goes at a fairly good pace. There's rarely any homework just studying for quizzes which are easy if you take good notes during lectures.
Dr. Katie is absolutely amazing. She is so sweet and generous, always brings treats, and it thorough in explaining everything. This is one of my favorite classes Ive taken at Edmonds. Shes truly amazing. Please dont take advantage of how nice she is, though. Dont talk over her its rude. Shes amazing!
Just take her class, she's a very nice and caring person. Dr Katies is the best teacher you can have. She'll give a lot of extra credits when you make her happy. Be nice to her.
Dr. Katie very caring and inspirational. She would usually bring snacks to class and give them out. She gives lots of lectures, but sometimes has the class watch movies or documentaries instead of lectures. She gave weekly quizzes that had 2-5 questions. I never used the textbook. She's fun to talk to about history and makes it interesting.
Dr. Katie is an amazing, amazing lecturer. I didn't like History much before I took her class, as it focused on sometimes dry dates/events, but Dr. Katie incorporated stories, movies and historical facts into her lecture, and it was very easy and fun to learn from. Highly interested in student success (and makes sure you get the material).
I like her lectures. She teaches well and her quizes are easy. Even though you get a low score in the exam, you will still get 4.0 as long as you did all of the quizes.
She is nice and very kind. She always giving out candy and her tests are easy. As long as you read and pay attention, you will be fine. Her grading for essays are fair. She even always remember me even I am not taking her class anymore.
I didn't show up for an entire month and passed with 100%. Believe it or not, I learned the most in that history class out of every other history class I've taken. The classes that I did attend consisted of fun games, movies, or class discussions. I don't believe that there ever was a dull moment in her class.
What can I say? I started loving history because of her. I don't feel like going to class with her. I just go and am happy to listen to such a wonderful teacher like her. She is really a kind person. PS: I am not a great student and I passed with a 4.0.
Her lessons were well-suited to the appropriate video. She had a lot of office hours and was very effective in asking questions. The e-mail reply was also very fast. Since there are some group projects, it is suggested to cooperate with members who are working hard, instead of students with low attendance or only touching their cell phones.
she's one of the greatest teachers out here love her so much. I didn't have any hard time being in her class.
This is the easiest teacher I've ever had. She showed movies half the time and she didn't even make us take notes on the movies she made us watch. She gives you all the answers to questions that will be on all the tests including the final exam.
Dr. Katie is such a sweetheart! I barely used my textbook to study for exams b/c everything you need to know is from her lectures. Her lectures are very engaging, almost like she's talking like a storybook. Just listen carefully and take notes. You will also have to do a partner project too. Quizzes are online and open note. (not timed) Super easy!
IF YOU NEED A SOCIAL SCIENCE CLASS, TAKE ANY CLASS FROM DR. KATIE. One of my favorite professors at EDCC! Katie is so awesome that I actually look forward to class and never get bored. Katie is truly passionate about what she is teaching and made the lectures interesting. She RARELY assigns any homework and quizzes/exams are easy! SHE'S THE BEST.
She is so passionate about what she teaches. She is so caring and has shown concern for students. She gave us a review with all the questions on the exam. The stuff we learned didn't stick to my brain that much, but I liked it. I actually ended up taking her twice. Didn't use the textbook once, glad I didn't buy it. It's $80.
She is one of the best history teachers I have ever met. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about history, and it shows in her lectures. In class, she uses PowerPoints to teach and sometimes gives us videos to watch. Her assignments and weekly online quizzes are also easy as long as you do some light studying. She also gives a lot of extra cr
Super easy. Weekly quizzes and gives 2 attempts. 2 exams (first 5 weeks and last 5 weeks). Don't need to take exam 2 if you have 4.0 in the class. I heard her HIST 117 class is harder than this one. Take her 146, super easy and only 1 simple group project in the end. Attendance is graded, don't miss class more than 4 times.
Such an amazing prof!! DR. Katie really cares about her students and is amazing at everything she does. Assignments are pretty clear and easy. Textbooks are not necessary!
This teacher is amazing and her class is really interesting especially if you like history. I did not even study for this class I just took notes and the material stuck in my brain because of the stories that go into her lectures. Great class! Would take all of her classes if I had the time and money!
Kathleen is a sweetheart! The class was honestly WAYY too easy. You show up, and get graded. Some barely even showed and still passed. We had a few quizzes at home, one group project, a few reflective journals, and that's it! She offers extra credit for small things! Easy class to get an A in!
I have never experienced a more organized professor. She was always prepared and on top of things which made it so easy to be in her class. I would definitely take her class again. There's a lot of reading and note taking but apart from that, a really great teacher.
BEST TEACHER EVER. Take her!!!!
Dr. Katie is great; her lectures are interesting to listen to. She is quick to reply if you need anything. Her online class is simple, read a chapter a week and take a quiz, all open notes. Sometimes she will have discussions. Easy A.
Katie's HIST&126 class is easy. She provides notes on the week's topic that helps with quizzes. She includes many videos throughout the topics that are very interesting and topic relevant. Sometimes extra-credit is available, not guaranteed. If you have a high grade you don't have to take the final test. She's a Great person.
Take this! No stress from this class. If you have a high grade, you do not have to take the final. Because of this, I basically completed the class two weeks before finals week and was able to focus on my other 2 classes.
Dr. Katie is such a genuine and amazing professor! You can tell that she cares about her students so much. Her assignments are super light, and the quizzes are open note. You will have to spend some time reading for each chapter weekly, but that's mainly it. She's also so kind and is always willing to help! Would 100% recommend taking this class :)
SWEETEST PROF EVER! Seriously take Dr. Katie if you get the chance. I took her for 146 and 148, easy A's in both; you don't even need to touch textbooks so save your money. Lots of lectures but good material.
Dr Katie is amazing! She's really nice and her lectures are pretty engaging too. Her class is a pretty easy A and most of the time you just have to pay attention to her lectures and you'll be fine. Her tests are pretty straightforward too.
BEST CLASS EVER! This has been by far my favorite class I've ever taken in my life. There are weekly quizzes with 10 or fewer questions, if you do the reading these will be easy for you. There are also weekly discussions that are mostly opinionated, which I found to be enjoyable. Seriously, Ms. Simonton made this History class so easy and fun!
She's a super easy grader- you only have about a quiz and a lecture a week plus a big project due around midterms. If you score well enough on the quizzes you don't have to take the final.
The best and most caring teacher ever. She explains very well, and her classes are very organized. She also cares for her student and grades easily. The final project for this class is also fun to do! I would definitely take her class again
Professor Simonton is so great! Her class is super easy and I never once opened the textbook or read. Weekly quiz, with 10 questions. Midterm is pretty easy as well. If you grade is above a 94.5% then no final! The final project is so easy and I did it the day of and got 100%. My class was hybrid, so attendance was mandatory and was graded.
Very kind teacher. Assignments are very clear and easy. One open note quiz a week, a quick assignment every couple weeks (less than 30 mins). A final exam and final project at the end. Exam is easy if you did weekly quizzes. Final project is a "dating profile" for a historical person 1200+ wrds. Have to email her your work, not canvas submittion
One of my fav teachers, her tests were easy and pretty self explanatory, she explained the worksheets well and replied to emails quickly when you need help.
Dr. Katie is awesome. She really has a passion for history and it shows. Her class is very straight forward and easy if you follow the work assignments that are given.
Best teacher in entire History department. Less homework, just one quiz contains 10 Muti-choice per week, two exam and one essay to do in entire quarter. The essay is very creative, easy and she isn't a tough grader unless you don't follow her instructions.
This might not be the most academically rigorous course, but you should not be concerned about grades. I found her lectures to be concise,well-planned, and engaging. It also helps that she has a good sense of humor and is nice. The material isn't challenging and discussion isn't encouraged much but I found the vibe in this class to be enjoyable. '
Dr. Katie cares thoroughly about the success of her students, and the way she teaches history proves that she really takes great interest in the subject. The assignments are easy to accomplish, and she'd drop the Second Mid-Term if you get a 94.5% mid-way through the quarter.
Dr. Katie's was a really nice professor! She is always there for her students and that she reaches out to her students easily. Her assignments are WAY super easy to complete and there is always a quiz every week, two midterms and a final. However, for the midterm, if your grade is 94.5% or higher halfway, you don't have to take the second midterm!
She provides so much information, to the point where it is sometimes overwhelming. If you are low on time, you don't need to read everything. The quizzes every week are simple and low-stakes, too. All of the quizzes are open-book, so there is no need to memorize every fact. She also sends messages to the students every week wishing them well.
Incredibly easy class. It was easier than any high school class for sure. We were assigned a reading every week and then a quiz based on the reading that would take a few minutes. There were 2 midterms (question-based) and then a research project for the final which was easily graded (she gives examples of how to do it). Overall amazing teacher.
Reading a chapter a week, lectures and then an open note quiz on it. One final project. Overall Easy.
She's the best professor I've had for history ever. She respects everyone and really wants her students to pass. Her grading is very straightforward forward and the class was perfect.
Great teacher, great course
weekly 10-question quizzes (answers in the textbook chapter/look them up). the midterm was pretty easy. If you get a 95%+ before the final, you don't have to take it! it's pretty easy to get a good grade in this class. Take it! Dr. Katie gives good feedback and is understanding. I would take her class again. (Textbook is free and online)
THE BEST PROFESSOR in the history department. Really enjoyed taking her class. Very respectful and wants all her students to pass with a good grade!
Best professor ever! Dr. Katie's lectures were so fun to listen to, and you can tell how passionate she is about the subject. There's a weekly open-note quiz, two midterms, and a final project; very few assignments. You don't have to take the second midterm if you got above a 94.5%. It's an easy and fun class-- I would 100% take it again!
Professor Simonton is the best I have had yet. She is excellent at making class interesting, and her lectures were always very fun. She is great at engaging with the class and is very encouraging.
Kathleen was such a pleasant teacher. Maybe the best history teacher I've ever had! Every week we had discussion posts and chapter quiz with 10 questions. Her lectures were entertaining and she gave out candy at the end. In the end, there was a final project she gave us and all we had to do was make her laugh and we would get an easy A :D
This is the nicest teacher I've had and probably the nicest teacher I will ever have going forward.
Definitely take her class! I have no doubt, she is really passionate about History and taught really well. She often gives extra points for students and also the assignments are not too heavy.
Kathleen Simonton is literally the best college professor ever. She's super nice and gives REALLY easy assignments and quizzes. This is like the ideal class to take if you already have a busy schedule and you don't want to increase your workload too much. Honestly, I would want Kathleen to be my professor for every class lol. I 100% recommend her!
This was the easiest class I've taken throughout my ENTIRE academic career. All we had to do was take 8 quizzes each worth 10 points, a midterm, and a final both worth 100 points. Everything was online. You could easily Control F the answers in the lectures she gives. But to be honest I never even read any of the lectures. Very easy class.
Prof. Katie is the best, she has the easiest lectures and her work is the easiest you could ever see. You can get an A by closing your eyes. I recommend taking her class. I GOT AN A . :D
She is the best! I took her Hybrid class, and she was amazing! Very easy class, and everything was on quizlet for your open note tests and quizzes. Walk in the park!
Professor Katie's classes are a breeze - easy assignments, fun lectures, and the chance to skip the final if you do well enough. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for quiz prep, alongside the free textbook. Highly recommend this credit-earning class!
Loved her. If we did good on the mid-term she cleared us for the final. A few in class activities but nothing major. She was very accommodating and no complains would recommend!
Take this class if you want an easy A. Kind of a lot of boring reading with weekly quizzes that are short and easy. Sometimes there is a weekly discussion that doesn't even have a work requirement. Midterm and final are both 25 multiple choice question and open textbook. Final project is PowerPoint slides on a topic from the time period. SO EASY!
I took this class because the subject was interesting. I enjoyed the class and the teacher was super nice. She gave good feedback and was very understanding.
Easy class. About one opinionated question/assignment each week followed with a quiz due that following Sunday. Nice and understanding.
Professor Simonton was amazing, and you can tell she cares a lot about her students. The class itself was very simple, but the reading was a bit long. There's a quiz every week and a discussion every two-ish weeks. There's two exams, but they're open-book/open-note. There's also a final project that's very simple to do. Overall, it's a great class.
