A nice teacher. Tests are hard. LOTS of boring reading. I hate WOMS!!
excellent teacher, her classed are fun and interesting, tests are okay
Wonderful teacher. Took an active personal interest in students. fabulous
She's awesome. Class and tests are demanding but not impossible.
really nice & interesting. reading's ok, tests arent bad. cool class.
very nice teacher,do the readings and go to class and you will do well
Irrational grader, hard to get in touch with once final grades are out....
lots of info, but study class notes and exams will be fine, pretty easy grader
she's great- lots of work, but you can handle it if you look over the notes.
Take notes and pay attention... you'll understand everything
Too many boring readings, tests are difficult, interesting lectures
Excellent professor, leads very informative + enlightening lectures, even @ 8am
reading boring, but class overall well done
class is so boring, like pulling teeth. notes make no sense!
wonderulf, wonderful, wonderful teacher
wasnt what i expected, got a bad grade in what was supposed to be an easy class
loves what she teaches. exams harder than expected for WOMS. gives xtra credit!

useless if not woms major , grading: points off for no reason-hard to get A
Very boring. Prof is not helpful. Hard grader, difficult tests. "Busy work"
BORING! a bunch of hypocritical B.S. do not take!
must be open to new ideas, not hard if you try
Very, very nice. Passionate about subject. Read and go to class, you'll be fine.
If you're gonna take women's studies take turkel, she loves what she teaches!!!
fantabulous lady.. loves what she teachers, easy grade if you do readings..! ya
Horrible teacher. boring. tests do not reflect class material!
Wonderful teacher, class makes you think about things that you never did before
very interesting course...tests are a little unclear..make sure you go to class!
why wouldn't anyone love this prof
really nice, great with extra credit, but don't miss any notes
Charming and very interesting. Class lectures are pointless for tests
Don't disagree, she will take it out on your grade! Class too one sided.
easy if you read and take notes, liberal but respectful, will take her again
really enjoyed the class, declared my women's studies minor, prof. turkel was really nice and helpful!!! :)
she is a little one sided, her tests are okay, but you must know the stuff, else you are screwed... read alllll readings and take good notes, 6 pts xtra credit is cool too
She is real helpful if you have questions, yay for extra credit! read and take notes and you'll do well
Easy grader. Extra-credit will help your grade SO much. Lectures can be boring though.
SO BORING. Don't take this class. Tests are based on specific individual readings. Lots of reading for this class. Read readings from one book but not text chapters from other to get an A.
she is the epitome of what women's studies stands for ... caring, intelligent, grounded ... wonderful, wonderful teacher
Awesome lectures, test questions are somewhat random. Extra credit= 6 points added to final grade! Getting an A is possible, not easy!
Great class, really interesting; lectures were great, even at 8am! Participate in class- it helps you remember stuff, and it makes her like you more.
Nice lady but barely goes over information in class and her "midterms" are insane and way too time consuming
One of the better teachers at the University. Shes very nice, easy to talk to, and a pretty good all around teacher. Dont take her course unless your interested in the subject matter, youll only be setting yourself up for a painful semester.
This class really makes you think about society. You learn a lot about minorities and racism as well as middle-class women. I recommend this class to anyone interested in gaining a broader perspective about the world.
You're going to have to read for tests, boring at times, nice lady but her opinion is the only one that really matters
Interesting class, lots of reading, have to read and go to class, somewhat one sided in presentation of material
Not impossible course, but an incredible amount of reading. Very biased in presentation of information. Take it to learn some interesting things, but don't expect to find a new favorite professor.
She is boring and has no control over the class. Too many people were asking stupid questions and a lot of material we needed never got covered. Her take home exams are too much writing. She talks way too much about theories. Worst Women Studies Professor
SUCH a nice professor. She took personal interest in the students and was very available outside of class. Material in the course was easy and fun - project was easy, and even though the exams were essay, it was easy to get an A. Take this course!
Do NOT take this class, and do NOT take any other class with this woman other than intro woms. She is completely intolerant of anyone who does not agree with her very biased views, and will grade you solely on your ability to regurgitate her teachings.
you will not learn anything new from this class if you have taken any other class with her. her tests are ridiculous. what makes this class hard is you get penalized for having views that differ from hers.
boring lectures and nothing learned
good professor, she is very fair, learned a lot about subject material
Very specific tests! it's women's studies not rocket science someone let her know that
You know how you come to college to expand on what you know and show that you understand what you've learned? well, forget that, to succeed in her class just spoon feed her what she regurgitates to you. (ps. i think she wrote that comment on 12/14/03
You know how you come to college to expand on what you know and show that you understand what you've learned? well, forget that, to succeed in her class just spoon feed her what she regurgitates to you.
Scary lady. Talks far too much about abortion and domestic violence, and not enough about the GOOD things in women's studies/history. 15% of grade based on 20 question T/F test. Not worth an 8 am class, but ok. Don't sleep, she'll catch and call you out!
nice lady, but tests were a little hard. she has a lot of very specific questions so its good if you take notes on the readings instead of just skimming through them.
Turkel does it again. Great teacher if you love WOMS classes. Grades based on test with few questions so have to do good. Rewards people who seek help and show up to class
Absolutely hated her. not very tolerant of different opinions. tries to make woms and exact science and she has test w/ few questions that make up most of your grade. only teacher i've really hated in the woms dept in my 4 years as a woms major
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU ARE A WOMENS STUDIES MAJOR, Awful, boring class, unclear, should be an easy A, but isn't b/c you spend all your nights reading trying to keep up
While her tests may be overly specific to the text, she uses informative and interesting materials. At times she expects more work than a usual elective course would require. Overall, she is a great lady who knows her stuff and wants you to learn.
the tests are ridiculous, you read hundreds of pages for only a couple of pages that are actually on the test...and the tests are almost impossible to get a perfect score on because its too specific, everyone I knew in the class received in the C range
if you like reading 500 pages of boring crap and having to remember ridiculously specific statistics than this is your class. she is a man hater and the course just all out sucks. all my friends got in the f to c- range
THIS TEACHER SUCKS
She is hardcore nice. I would/am taking more of the classes she is teaching in the future semesters. I really enjoy her style. She cares about the student's thoughts and feelings.
I would have rather not taken this class. Is it necessary to have a cumulative final in a WOMS class? I think not. Easy novel to read for the class. Lottttts of readings each week. Her into class was not bad.
easy A if you go to class and take notes. Lots of extra credit to help you out. Exams are easy if you went to class and read. She was very nice and made the material as intersting as possible.
this was a very enjoyable class, though the grading rubric was too punitive for my taste.
there's more to feminist studies than motherhood. however most of the course focused on just that. nice person but not the most fab professor.
This is the best learning experience I have had at U Del. I love Professor Turkel more than I love my own mother, and I would take her class again in a second. She taught me to be proud of my womanhood and my capacity to bear children. Also, I dig her son. Redheads are AWESOME.
SAVE YOUR SELF THE MONEY! way too hard. you find yourself studying for hours and still failing!
She is one of the most wonderful professors at UD...really cares about her students as people...does find some silly little facts to put on her tests, which makes the m.c. and true/false killer...still a great professor
Took her for honors section and loved it, especially considering I was not looking forward to the class. She definitely has her opinions but respects others. A very eye-opening class. You will work hard but it is worth it.

she's nice and everything but you have to write down everything she says to be able to answer what's on her tests which are really hard, not an easy A class at all and not a lot of chances to improve your grade.
Gives long lectures and watches a lot of movies. Make sure to take advantage of extra credit opportunities. Don't be afraid to speak out in class, it helps your grade in the end.
Though one would think that the subject matter would be interesting, Prof. Turkel finds a way to effectively ruin it. Her lectures are long, and do not lend much opportunity for discussion. Her choice of textbook is horrible. However, her choice of additional readings were good. Her test were extremely ambiguous, and therefore difficult.
I took TWO classes with Turkel hoping the second would be better. No. She presents entirely too much info in her super-long lectures. Her readings are as boring as she is. She, sometimes, gives study guides that won't help you on exams. Typically, you'd expect SOMETHING from the study guide to be on the exam. False. If you like ambiguity, take her.
Her presentations are dated and her exams are horrible, yet, she is very nice and approachable.
Im glad i didnt beleive the comments below and took her class. She is such a nice person. Yes, she gives long lectures but if you know whats going on and get involved = A.
Hated the class and hated the professor. Dont take unless you are a feminist and liberal. Doesnt give any notes, just lectures and she is all over the place.
I am so happy that I didn't listen to the comments below. She is the sweetest woman and helped me SO much. Her lectures are really interesting and she's funny and always laughing. You can definitely do really well as long as you do the readings. I WOULD DEFINITELY take more of her classes!
I thoroughly enjoyed this class! If you actually listen to the lectures and take good notes, then you'll be fine. She really knows her subject matter and is very friendly.
NEEDS to take a public speaking class. All she says is "umm" and "a" hundreds of times (not lying). The class is easy. Her movies are way outdated. The class is boring overall.
She is a wonderful teacher. Take her! She's really helpful and really nice. The course material was interesting.
She's a great teacher. She's not a "ranting liberal feminist" like people expect a womens studies professor to be - she presents most things objectively. Tests are pretty easy - she gives you most of the questions that will be on it before hand. I'm taking another class with her next semester.
Really great professor, and a really nice person. The type of lady who you would want to be your aunt or grandma. I def recommend the one credit women's studies class where you watch a series of movies (spring semester only). Really opened my eyes to the world.
this class was MUCH harder than i expected it to be. despite not getting the grade i wanted, i learned so much and found the material extremely useful.
Very good professor. Clear and precise with her notes and always willing to help whoever needs it.
The class was a lot more interesting than I was expecting. Definitely not all "crazy feminist" viewpoints. She's a very sweet lady and good teacher. Tests can be a little difficult. Gives extra credit for going to class towards the end of the semester.
Very nice professor! Her class was not an "easy" A but very attainable. I got an 80 on first exam but still ended up with an A. Go to class, read the sections in the book, participate in class and you're good to go.
Prof Turkel is very opinioned and a big feminist. She will mark u down if you do not agree with her discussions or opinions. Her class is like a consoling session where men are the root of all evil. If u have problems this is the class for you! If not it?s a waste of time and not even an easy A?very unprofessional and u will only learn useless info
Proffesor Turkel was very nice and a great person. She was funny and listened to everyone's opinions. Did not teach like a crazed feminist. She gives you the questions that are going to be on the test so you don't even have to read, just find the answers. The presentations at the end are pretty easy. Definatly a good class even for guys.
Easiest A I have gotten at UD thus far. GET OLD EXAMS. They are exactly the same. Lecture got boring at times but I loved Prof. Turkel. She was so sweet and helpful and not a crazy feminist at all! So open minded. 3 Exams, 1 Project, NO FINAL. I didnt read a single assignment and got an A. 5 hours of work the entire semester!
best professor i've ever taken. very easy class and the exams come straight from the review questions she gives you. always available during office hours and easy grader. get to know her, you'll love her! also gives extra credit just for talking in class!
this woman is probably the worst teacher i have EVER encountered. everyone that said she is great is crazy. she is rude, her class is HELL, she just lectures on and on there are no slides she speaks a mile a minute and is all over the place. avoid this class at any and all costs, or take it with the other woman.
Alright teacher, class is easy you have to do the reading. If you read you don't need to go to class. Tests are really fair and easy if you've read. It is in your best interest to just agree with what she says.
Followed this Prof. and USED to enjoy her classes. She has changed since I first met her and I would not take her again.I think it's time for her to throw. She rambles, goes off on tangents, seems like shes losing her memory. Thinks she's so smart and you can feel her putting her nose down on people. Such a shame, she used to be one of my fav profs
ehh. not a hard class def an easy B and if you put in some effort an A is definitely attainable. real boring though and goes off on things that don't matter.
Very engaging. Good lecturer. Has very liberal ideas, but I'm a conservative and she allowed for free-flow of ideas. You'll learn a lot from her.
Need to go to class. She gives you study questions for the textbook which are straight from her test. it's a fine class and if you do the work, an A isnt that hard to get. She fun, but pretty straightforward. Very helpful outside of class.
This was a pretty easy class. Turkel is a very helpful lady, and she gives many extra credit opportunities. There is a lot of reading for the class, and some of the test questions are from the readings. We had 3 tests and a group project with a paper. If you study it is an easy class.
Easy class, great professor, attendance not mandatory, but she does if extra credit if your in class on random days, so go because class is interesting and you will barley have to study if you just listen in class!
Annoying voice, uptight... exams= 25 pts, 10pts of essay question, and the rest t/f and multiple choice, and a group project worth 30% of grade. Do the readings and youll do fine. i wouldn't go out of my way to take this class, it and the prof are annoying as ****... if you have to take this class, i guess take it w her tho, its easy enough.
soooo nitpicky... all she does is complain... not a hard class (b-able) but good god is this woman a pain!
I loved this professor. Her class is interesting and she is very helpful if you have questions or need something clarified. Her lectures are crystal clear as to what she is getting at and she gives great review sheets before the exams. Do the readings, go to class and you will do well in this class.
Read the syllabus- all the readings required are there. You must read the chapters in order to do well on the tests. Depending on the number of course credits you are taking, this course may be convenient/inconvenient. Prof. Turkel is a kind person, she is just very passionate about the subject matter she discusses. You can always ask for her help.
EASY course if you simply 1 do the readings in the syllabus and 2 take notes in class. Review questions are helpful and reflect exam questions. Only thing I HATED was writing a group essay with 5 people, absolutely ridiculous.
Class material easy to understand but she expects a whole bunch of details when answering the short essay questions. The group project was the only thing that pulled my grade up.
Great professor, but I feel like she only likes Womens Studies majors. The rest of us are somewhat inferior in her eyes. Expects a lot of detail and explanation on her exams, but she e-mails you all the exam questions before, so you have plenty of time to prepare your answers. Overall, take it as an elective cause it's definitely an easy grade.
great class. easy a if you show up to class and do the readings. very fair teacher for such a controversial class, she always gives each student time to discuss their opinions and leaves ample time for discussion in class
Very simple class, do the readings, take adequate notes, she's a very easy grader. Only 3 tests non-cumulative. Wants everyone to do well. Only annoying part was group project.
Absolutely loved this class. Three exams, non cumulative. Textbook readings are interesting. Gives you the test questions before the exam so you can look up the answers in the textbook. I DEFINITELY recommend this class!!
Awesome professor. I took this class for a breadth requirement but I ended up really enjoying it and learning a lot. Professor Turkel definitely taught me to look at things with a more critical eye. 3 exams, 1 quiz, 1 group presentation, and a 3 page essay. Fair grader. Definitely recommend the class.
The class is interesting at times, but some of the topics are a bit over-dramatic, and this is coming from a female taking the class. The professor loves what she teaches and sometimes doesn't appreciate other students' opinion, especially when they clash with hers. Overall, a relatively easy class.
This class was the most interesting class I have taken at college so far! Topics in Women's Health Issues is so interesting if you are a female who wants to learn all about the options and experiences there are for you! There is a lot of reading but it's so interesting...one book looks like a vintage pinup magazine!
She's very passionate about what she teaches, but when she asks for opinions and someone disagrees with her she will tell them why they are wrong. Slightly irritating in that way. Really easy class though. Group project was beyond annoying and the outside work was a little much for a breath requirement. Very opinionated based class. Not recommended
Class material is not that hard but attendance is mandatory because most of the lectures are based off a book that we didn't read. Not my favorite woms class i've ever taken but definitely not too difficult.
She was a really good professor. She makes it interesting. She really likes feedback from her students. It's a class worth taking!
Hard class, no lecture notes so you have to attend lectures to understand the information. 3 tests and one project, relatively small class and no small assignments which is annoying. Tests only out of 30 points so it makes it hard to get a good grade- not an easy a
really tedious class for a breadth requirement. 3 exams and a group project (which is a lot of out class work- big hassle) and she doesn't really grade that easy. everything is worth 30 points so it's hard to get an A. class is also really boring... have to attend in order to understand class
Turkel is nice, but don't ever try to challenge her. She'll shoot you down the second you try to voice your opposing opinion. Not hard, but you need to read the book. Test questions are right off the study guides she gives you- do those and you'll be fine. One group project which is annoying, but not difficult. Basically busy work.
Professor Turkel is just so wonderful. You can tell that she really does care about the well being of her students, and she relates to the class very valuable information. You definitely should attend classes and use the text book in order to prepare for tests. They're not really that hard if you have a prior knowledge of feminist ideals.
Professor Turkel is a very nice person. It's a pretty easy class overall as long as you show up, take notes, and do the readings, you should be fine. I was actually surprised how tolerant she is of opinions that oppose her, she is a great professor overall.
This class was great. Super easy: 3 exams, 2 quizzes, and a 3 page paper. The exams are easy as long as you do the reading and come to class. She gives out extra credit for coming to class and participating. The quizzes were cake and so was the paper. Turkel is really nice and easy to talk to. The discussions get pretty interesting as well.
This class was overall really interesting, Turkel is a great woman. However you have to be prepared to read and STAY ON TOP OF IT. All of her tests (3) are extremely straight forward, she gives you study guides. Just do the reading because the questions on the test reflect the reading. Her test questions are almost identical to study guide ones too
Fantastic professor, is knowledgeable on the subject. She helped me out immensely during the semester when I missed a group project presentation and made sure I got appropriate credit. Even though I got a C in the class, I'd say anyone who's even remotely interested in Women's Studies should take one of her classes.
it's literally her talking the entire time, no slides and no notes on the board, she goes by the information too fast too.
Dr. Turkel was amazing. I had to miss a lot of class due to health issues and she was super helpful and understanding about it. You have to do the assigned reading if you want to pass the exams. Most of the exam questions are directly off of the study guide, but there are a few that you have to be in class for. Definitely takes WOMS201 with her!
Dr. Turkel is one of my favorite classes. Not only does she create great discussions, she is so approachable. Class isn't too hard. Study from the study guides she gives you and you'll do fine. Go to class because some things from class that arent in the readings do show up on the exams. But her class is so interesting I didn't want to skip.
Professor Turkel lectures every class and it can get very boring. Her tests come straight from the study guide she gives you but some of the true false questions can be very specific and difficult. She is a tough test grader and will give points off if you don't mention every little detail.
Professor Turkel's lectures are interactive and interesting. She's one of my favorite professors at Delaware and makes woman's studies fun. Tests don't deviate from her study guides, and any projects or papers she gives are usually quick and easy. Definitely go to class though because most of her information is from note taking.
Wonderful class. She is very good at explaining material clearly and class discussions are always meaningful and interesting. She is also very easy to talk to. Her tests are hard, you really have to study all of the readings and class notes because she's pretty specific, but the material is enjoyable and always a good read.
Such an amazing teacher. Her lectures are so interesting and engaging that you won't even want to skip class. Class discussions are always enjoyable and she is really good at being open minded and accepting everyone's opinions even if they disagree. Tests are hard, very specific, so make sure to read the textbook and take notes in class.
I'm not sure why people are saying that she shoots you down if you disagree with her. I disagreed with her sometimes during class discussions and she was good at accepting my opinion, and other people who disagreed as well. If you're not a feminist like I wasn't, this class will definitely make you a feminist after you learn about it. Hard tests
Her tests are difficult because she's very specific, but as long as you study the review questions and read the textbook readings you will be fine. Class material is on exams, don't skip class. As someone who's not super into feminism, I was actually surprised at how open minded and unbiased she was. She's good at accepting opposing opinions.
She doesn't really put notes on the board very often so you have to pay attention while taking notes. That part was annoying, but I found her to be very nonjudgmental about disagreeing opinions, which I was concerned about taking this class since I'm not really a feminist, but she was good at embracing opinions she disagreed with.
Boring lectures at times. Tough grading on tests, you have to be very specific, pay attention in class and take notes, read the textbook and you'll be fine. The group project was annoying. She's very easy to get along with even if you don't agree with her on things. She won't judge you or belittle your opinions which was good.
too hard. tests with no study guide. the tests have info that is only talked about in class. no power points. you have to know her material verbatim for the test. the test requires 5 short answers, 10 multiple choice, 20 true/ false. the short answers are so hard. if you have the opportunity to not take this class DO NOT TAKE IT
She is a big lecturer. She stands in front of the room and speaks. You pretty much have to write everything down that she says as well as read the textbook which is A LOT. The exam questions are very specific and she does not give any sort of study guide or anything to tell you what you should expect. Not impossible to get a good grade but hard to.
The exams are based mostly on the readings. I went to every class and studied my notes and skimmed the readings and it was a mistake. The amount of effort required for her teaching style is unnecessary.
I loved prof turkel! for woms389 she required a long paper and presentation, but ithey weren't bad at all. if you dont learn well when someone just stands in front of the class and speaks, i wouldn't recommend taking her class. textbook was barely used, and there was't any homework be sides papers
