Kathleen teaches a phenomenal Intro to Soc. class that makes the material interesting and relevant. A must-take class for ANYONE, not just soc/psych majors.

This is a class for people who love discussion and free thinking. It's an opportunity to challenge your fellow class mates and instructor on controversial ideas. I highly recommend it.

Yes, Kathy is very liberal. However, she doesn't judge others at all. It doesn't matter what side of the political sprectrum you are on; you should still take this class, because you will learn a LOT. I've taken three of her classes already. "Sociology of Sex and Gender" was awesome.

She's a total left wing (sometimes nut). Although she really loves all of her students and she is VERY open, accepting and non-judgmental. She is very pro-diversity, against the concept of color blindedness. I took three of her classes.

Kathy is the most amazing teacher I have ever had. She really changed my life and made me look at things in a totally different way. She cares about her students and is there for you whenever you need her, no matter if it has to do with the class or not. She really knows what she is talking about and I highly reccomend her for a teacher.

She's a great instructor with a lot to offer. She will make any first time college student feel at ease. She is very funny and not your typical instructor :)

Very helpful, but takes a while to answer emails. Took the course via telecourse and had a chance to meet with her in her office and was amazed at how helpful and friendly she was. Offers great guidance when you get to speak with her and will actually teach you a lot if your willing to learn. Great teacher with interesting classes to take!!

Im certain Prof. Westman is an intelligent educator just her methods and topics seem long ago formed and rehearsed. We read outdated and irrelevant articles for today's sociological issues. She talks and treats the class as if ALL are under the thought bubble only she and the 30 somethings in the class have popped.Easy A for sure,just expected more

I never had an interest in Sociology before taking her class.I have taken 3 soon to be 4 classes with her.She is awesome,loud, and opinionated.She is very understanding and swears a lot.Definitely one of a kind and my fave teacher!

I'm going to make the argument: If you are a conservative, DO take this class; it will challenge you. It's impossible to be bored in her class. Mrs. Westman is a fantastic educator and she's very entertaining. Tests are easy by design, lots of writing reflections, group activities, analysis of other known sociologists. Very fun course!

Kathy Westman is a terrific professor. She's always looking to hear different opinions and values them even if they're different from her own. The homework assignments are based on your opinion so there's really no way to get a bad grade. The tests are pretty easy as long as you remember the class discussions. She's very outspoken and a lot of fun!

Took this class online and I learned quite a bit. You will have a lot of homework and have to use your textbook for it all. I had to talk to her in person about an assignment, and she was so friendly she gave me hug when I left her office. Overall very good teacher defiantly take her again!

As an older student, I appreciate the openness of Ms. Westman's class's. Interaction with other students in encouraged and fun. Kathy is a liberal to the core, but respect's the fact that some of us are not. Would recommend ANY of her classes!!!!

'Required' intro classes.. You never know what to think or expect..and course descriptions do NO justice in explaining any class. Also, lets face it..sometimes R.M.P can be a bit misleading (and MAJORLY biased)..However, I can assure you-Kathy Westman's classes are extremely liberating. Packed with empowering knowledge, excitement, and :)discussion

Around ten one-page article critiques due by end of semester (most from book). Takes several months to grade them, but unless it's under a page long, you'll get 100% on the papers. Tests are very easy because she practically gives you half of the answers. Very liberal, like myself, so I enjoyed some of the discussions, but she's a bit stubborn.

Kathy is THE BEST. She is open to many points of view and listens to you. She grades easily but expects you to participate and work hard. Take her is you take SOC. You will not regret it.

Kathy is awesome! She is very liberal and proud of it, but respects other views. She is very crazy, but super friendly and easy to talk to. One of the easiest classes I have ever taken. She is very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to even though I did not agree with the majority of her views. I recommend her to anyone. :)

I enjoyed this class with Kathy, she's a very well informed individual, and (at least in my class) she embraces and encourages students playing the devil's advocate. The only gripe I have with this class, is that I can tell that she wants to maintain an open feel, but often she allows an entire class period to turn into "personal story hour".

I recommend Ms. Westman's courses. This was my second one. She is clear about expectations and helpful if you have questions. She responds to you right away. The class is well formatted. I learned a lot and it was an overall great experience!

Prof Westman was great. She took some time to responding to emails at some points but she would answer with clarity. I couldnt understand some of her assignements so i made an appointment to talk to her and she made it seem easy and clear. She was very helpful with turning in assignments, even if they were late. Would recommend her.

Get ready to take the easiest course. She is a hilarious teacher that is easy to work with. If you show up to class and ask questions you will end up with an A. She gives a ton of extra credit and prepares you so well for what is on her tests.

Westman is fabulous prof! I changed major to sociology after taking her class. She is a hippie from a blast past but that is what makes her lectures interesting - liberal on most everything but wants you to discuss even when you don't agree. Extra credit to china town, race museums. I will take this professor again!!

Mrs. Westman is awesome. Her class is lecture based. Asks you to read chapters out of the book but I never did. She assigns responses to the chapters but they don't really have a due date. It is easy to tell that she loves what she is talking about.

I ran out of the good tags to tag her with. Mrs. Westman is very knowledgeable in her field and isn't afraid to show it. Her classes are more lecture based and you go over everything there. You will have some outside reading assignments, but wont be due til the end of the semester. She is very understanding and I would recommend highly.

Take this class if you need an A. It's an easy blow off class. DO NOT take this class if you actually want to learn sociology.

Took one of her online courses and I loved it and I loved her! She allows you to complete your work on your own time and never counts anything late. It helped me out so much. She responds to email's rather quickly as well! Take any of her classes if you have the chance!

Professor Westman is a great instructor. Expect a lot of homework, but it's doable. I took the 8 week class, which is a little rough, just because it's a lot to read/learn. I learned a ton, she's very flexible on due dates and communicates instantly if you have a question. Take her if you need a Social Science credit, you won't regret it!!

She made this class so much fun and really enjoyable. This is a class that you will not regret taking. She is funny when it comes to the lectures and does not give out a lot of tests. It is mainly just reading articles and discussing them in class with your own views and opinions. Take this class with this professor you will love it!

First day threw me off, but she is honestly a great instructor. TONS of extra credit! You have to go to Chicago to earn it though. I didn't take one test in the class and because of the extra credit I did I got an A+. Great teacher!

English is not my first language but believe me this teacher is the best i ever had in my life. her class is so enjoyable, always full of students, and is very easy. easy and simple A. no homework, no deadline, and lot of extra credits. I really recommend this class to all of you guys

Lectures are interesting. She offers so much extra credit, most of it involves going to museums. The class assignments are easy as well, read an article and write a response. There is one 5 page paper at the end of the semester but if you do the extra credit your grade is safe. She does have tests but they are not required.

I really enjoyed this class. Westman's lectures are very interesting. The homework is very straight forward, and the tests are easy as well. She strives for her students to learn rather than focus on grading them, which is why she offers so much extra credit. One of the best professors I've had. Strongly recommend taking her class.

Kathy is the best teacher I've ever had. She is hilariously, very active and extremely caring. It was an easy A but no one ever blew the class off. She made you want to come to class and work. The class was extremely fun and was my favorite class to go to, just because she was the professor. Very minimal assignments. Would very highly recommend.

really has a good handle on the information she presents in her lectures but you always leave knowing what is going on and feel very prepared for the tests. This class has increased my sociological perspective on life.

Each week: One assignment, at least 5 deep questions to answer related to the reading, then SocLab article & answer at least 3 more questions. Then a forum post, answering a few more questions. It's a lot of reading/writing. It's challenging depending on your level of interest for Sociology. 8-Week course is 2x the above each week. A bit tough.

Gives A LOT of fun and educational extra credit opportunities. She is very open minded and so funny! You will def. enjoy her class and leave with a different prospective on society

Don't take anyone else for sociology BEST prof in the school super caring and down to earth tons of extra credit it's ridiculous. She loves her students and made class interesting. TAKE THIS CLASS YOU'LL LEARN SO MUCH!

Westman is the best! Shes very caring and passionate about what she teaches. Shes very lenient about workload and is always looking to open a dialogue about whatever shes teaching. I would definitely take her again.

She is GREAT! Shes a chill laid back teacher. Shes very open minded and willing to talk to you 1 on 1 if needed. She definitely cares and gives almost a motherly figure to you. I love Westman!! She brings personal experience to the classroom and has a way of making anything seem interesting. It's clear that she really cares about her students and her field. I recommend everyone take at least one class with her.

Kathy is one of the most inspiring teachers I have ever met. I added sociology as a minor because she opened my eyes to how the world really is. We had open discussions and got to understand concepts based on each other's experiences. I learned more than I could have from any other professor. I've never seen someone with so much decidation.

Shes honestly so awesome and there is absolutely no homework. She speaks up for those who dont have a voice and the injustices in the world with minorities. The easiest A ever received.
