good class. if you are going to take english online, i reccomend taking her. she grades fairly and is very nice to students and really want to see you succeed.
Excellent teacher. She is available, helpful and very fair, as well as understanding. Her online class was great.
Unclear lectures. This professor was not fair nor was she helpfull. I would not recommend her to my enemies.
ONLINE CLASS: I loved the reading that was assigned, enjoyed classmates who had the most interesting discussion posts, and the personality the instructor showed through her writing. Students seem to enjoy her class as much as she her job. Finish assignments earlier in the week then the class work load will seem light. Highly recommend her!
She is the worst on-line teacher ever. I DON’T recommend her at all.
Don't ever take her class!
I really enjoyed having Kathleen White as my instructor. She took the time to reply to my e-mails and was helpful, fair and understanding. The valuable information I have learned in her course will always benefit me in my future endeavors. In addition, I loved the reading that was assigned and enjoyed reading the lectures.

Definitely English teacher, proves it by expressing her little picky pet peeves involving common grammatical errors, etc. Gives numerical grades on essays, NOT letter grades. Bust your butt to get a good grade on essays. Rambles on too much, needs to clean up excess words/thoughts and deliver messeges more clear, concise and to-the-point.
I think you can really try in this class and still get a B or B-. She is def. not an easy A, but she's not that bad. She does require a lot of reading and busy work on essays you read and she's a tough grader. I never read the lectures, so maybe that was it, but they were LONG! I'd say this is a medium class-she's not great, but not horrible.
Significant amount of work required, but she made it relatively enjoyable. Her spunky personality livened up the online class (which is good, since they're often awfully dry and boring).
I took this class online, and it basically consisted of reading, essays, and online discussion. She was relatively helpful, but she is picky about grammar. The comments she leaves on graded essays are pretty helpful if you wanted to edit your essay more.
Kathleen White has a great sense of humor! She is definitely picky about grammar--YIKES! If you put a little effort in, you can get a good grade. Essays were mostly fun to write. One thing I didn't like was that you recieved letter grades for essays but percentages for other work which made it hard to figure your grade.
This teacher, graded my essays extreamly hard. I would never recomend this teacher. Her Essays are worth 70% of the grade. I recently turned in an Essay, and she returned it graded. There were two grammer mistakes; i did not put two commas in where they should have gone, and she gave me a 65%!. My brother Proofread it and he just got a Major Englis
RED FLAG!! CAUTION...this teacher is an absolute disaster!! Extremely disorganized online and takes weeks to get back with your papers, and questions. HORRIBLE GRADING! Attention.....WARNING. Do not recommend at all! I have my AA and have never come across a teacher like this. Absolutely not recommended!
Online tons of wrok. Four essays along with four writing assignments. VERY hard grader but if you ask for feedbacks tells you what to wrok on. Hard grader yes but its worth it. I have improved so much on my writing because of her.
Teacher is a joke when it comes to organization. She doesn't get grades back for weeks, doesn't log into class for days, and switches assignments at the last minute. The 'reading' is good, but she is a grammer nut and picky. I worked really hard and still only got a B+. She took 2 weeks to answer my first question online?? Total space cadet.
Took this class online.. Thought she'd be easy so I ignored comments here of how she was wordy and picky. All of which are true, but failed to mention: horrendously unorganized, forgetful, full of excuses.. And HOLY TYPOS! You're an English teacher! Student beware.. Frustration awaits you.
I definately underestimated the comments that were left before me. I have been completely lost trying to figure out what my grade will be. She is the only teacher online I have had that doesn't update the grades so we can see them. She took FOREVER getting papers back, and takes off a lot of points for grammar, spelling, and mechanics. I emailed he
She is very reassuring and makes you calm. She's comfortable.
she was hard but far I would take class again from her. don't expect a essay A
If you like to know what grade you are getting throughout the quarter this is not the class for you. VERY slow to grade, gives vague feedback. Learned very little from instructor, glad we had a book to read.
I took this class online her organization was horrid half the time you couldn't understand what she wanted your assignments to be or how to get them to her the essays were prob he easiest part. she does grade hard on essays but she is reasonable. i hated the peer editing it wasn't organized well it isn't hard to pass the class but BAD ORGANIZATION!
As an online instructor, her lack of organization is dreadful. She knows what she's talking about, but she never responds to her mail and is generally unavailable to students. I've had way better online teachers.
Disorganized and rarely responds to students. One of the worst English teachers I've had.
She is a good teacher but grades the essays too tough. On most of my papers, she said that it was a good paper, but still gave me a B or C. She takes off points VERY easily, and takes a long time to grade our papers. Honestly, I would not chose this teacher again, and I regret to have taken her class.
She's very frustrating. She doesn't respond to emails very quickly and when she finally responded to me, she said she would get back to me by the next week...and she never did. Her essay topics are vague and hard to write about. She takes forever to return graded papers. Returns after assigning another. You don't know what to fix. Harsh grader.
Kathleen is disorganized, unclear, and her online lectures/assignments are littered with grammar and punctuation mistakes. Kathleen doesn't really teach--she just distributes class materials, and gives vague feedback with questionable grades. She also doesn't use the online tools for tracking grades, so beware! This instructor is NOT recommended!
I took this online class and am usually a very organized and good student, but this teacher's organization on Vista was horrid. You had to constantly jump from page to page, assignments were not all listed on the same page, but scattered across the website, and she didn't receive my first essay even though it WAS in my Vista outbox. She
I didn't want to take this professor, but our college switched her to us at the last minute without even letting us know about it. I wanted to drop the class, but thought that I will make it. It seems like all the comments here are absolutely true. I had some questions that she didn't bother to answer until it was too late.
Kathleen teaches English, but has tons of grammatical mistakes in her postings, syllabus, discussion board. How such a teacher can even teach you English??? She grades unreasonable. I wish I dropped her class when I realized that BC switched the teachers, but it is too late now...
I took ENG101 online in Fall '11. I've never received less than an A- in any English courses; this is one of my stronger subjects. I became very frustrated with this instructor because she would not return essays until after the next was assigned.. didn't know what to fix. Grading was questionable, harsh, and unclear.
Took her online. She seems like a nice person, she really does. But she never responded to the questions i sent over the email, she graded really really hard. I'm not against hard grading, But she graded on stuff she never taught, and stuff that I never learned from English 101. I'm sure her class would be better in person though.
online:knowledgeable lady, bad online teacher. Her own comments on assignments did not justify the grade she handed out.Flat out did not answer some questions, especially in regard to extra credit-yet other students received extra credit.Skewed grading so that it appeared her students improved, when in reality they maintained the same grade
online:returned assignments as late as 3 weeks after they were turned in-graded on material not taught in ENGL 101-and never fully explained the subject. She might be a good teacher in class, but online she does not communicate, has grammar errors in lectures, and refuses to alter grades even with discussion.Says she will help-but is always vauge
Don't get scared by these reviews. She's not the best but she's really not that bad. I had her online. She was actually kinda funny sometimes. We had to read every week and answer questions. Other than that only four essays. Super easy and I hate English. It's my worst subject and I still got an A- after waiting until the last second do do anything
Nice teacher but waited until the end of the quarter to grade any assignments and give feedback so it was impossible to know how to improve throughout the quarter. In the end all my assignments werent even graded.
She was a horrible teacher. Never responded to my emails, never responded to my questions on assignments, nor discussion questions. I did not receive an email from her until 2 weeks left in the quarter. I would not take her class again.
She never responds to emails or any sort of communication and takes forever to grade all her assignments. She isn't clear on her assignments and does not know how to use canvas. I would NOT recommend her.
Unless you want to be told that you need to dumb down your writing for others, don't take this class. In addition, while I was told my papers were very well written and that there was improvement from one paper to the next, I received a worse grade on the latter paper than on the previous assignment! It seems there is no consistency with grading.
Most of these reviews seem dated, I just took English 271 online by Kathleen this summer (2014) and she seems to be on top of things, returning grades and papers quickly while hanging out in the boards and answering questions. She's very fun and understanding. Though I agree that while she said I improved she gave me lower grades on later papers.
Loved Kathleen's class. Very helpful in every situation. loved the material we read for this class. we wrote a lot of essays but she was very fair.
I loved Ms. White! She was a fabulous English teacher. Her grading really showed me what needed to be changed and how to do so. Yes, it can take a while to get your graded paper back, but it is worth it! Her grading is great and I never waited more than 2 weeks. Take her class!
She was very clear on what she expected, easy to get along with, open-minded, and very understanding. Great person, and a very well-rounded teacher. Easy to listen while shes lecturing. No meaningless busy-work assignments, only an essay and editing report every 2 or so weeks. Best professor I've ever had.
It was a very easy class with no final and never used the textbooks once. Don't buy them, I promise you will not need them at all. Easy A if your a good writer. The only thing that counts is the essays turned in on time, participation doesn't matter
Kathleen is such a great speaker; for my hybrid 101 class, she'd spend 50 mins lecturing wonderfully sensical material I'd actually use. To get an A in this class you really have to start writing at a college level. The assignment structure its self is super easy though, so just do well on the few assignments you turn in on time and your golden.
I enjoyed class with this professor a lot. She was very friendly and flexible with students. Attendance is not super important, and the textbook was not really required. I would definitely recommend her.
Sometimes the lectures are boring, but she really cares about improving your writing. Gives good feedback, and if you talk with her after class she will go more in depth in how to improve. Very chill and nice in that she cares for your work!
She was easy-going, gave great feedback, and was wonderful to talk to. I've always been a relatively strong writer, and it was an easy A for me. You don't really need the textbooks (she does use them in class, but its not necessary for the grade). As long as everything is turned in on time, attending class is not necessary.
The class between "the usual" and an "easy A." Books are cheap, minimal reading, and plenty of time allotted for each assignment. There was one Extra credit assignment that could easily bump you a letter grade. She will work with you as long as you communicate in advance.
She doesn't give out a lot of assignments, just a few essays, and analysis. She gives you lots of time to do every assignment and gives feedback in a respectable time. Easy class for someone who does online and doesn't procrastinate.
Shes is so awful, never take her again. She never returns any of my emails. Graded essays two weeks later. Super picky about specific writing styles its her way or the high way. super DISORGANIZED she lost so many of my essays, I had a B+ on canvas and on my transcript she gave me c+. I demanded her to change it and she ignored me. Do Not Take!!
I read the Bible more than the actual textbook. I'm not even Christian and that should say something. Great professor and fun learning environment.
Awesome teacher, very understanding. She tries her best to make sure her students pass and achieve good grade for her class. Great lectures, definitely recommend!
This class was my first online course it was great! Kathleen gave the best feedback I have gotten in my entire academic career. She was always so thorough and you knew her expectations right from the start. She was very understanding and replied back quickly through email. Her class was pretty doable and easy. Overall an amazing professor
This is an only class that i feel so frustrated about. Her assignments are not so hard, but she is a really tough grader. Her feedbacks are always, your essay is better than B or C, but ... ( the problem is not clear and she never teach us about it ). This is the only course that is an B in my entire college life. Do not take her class.
Kathleen cares about her students and goes the extra mile to help, you just have to ask. I recommend attending class to get tips on the assignments, especially the research paper, the course's namesake. Kathleen also notices whether you attend class, even if she doesn't officially take roll call. It never hurts to participate.
She is very nice and caring professor. I bought an old book this quarter, and while my book was being shipped, I asked if I could take the picture of her book for homework, she even offered me to take hers home. She is easy on grading too. The homework is kinda heavy, but it is good for learning and practicing how to write good essays.
3 Units, Fiction, Drama, and Poetry, in that order, there is an essay for each unit. Discussion heavy (3 Discussions per unit) 1 exam at beginning of quarter, just read terms list and know how to use them, itll be easy. And for the essays, do them beforehand and send them to Ms White for feedback. She is absolutely amazing with feedback.
This class wasn't too bad, just a lot of busy work. There is a discussion every week, three major essays, two smaller essays, and a couple of critique papers. It is not very hard but make sure you don't fall behind on the discussions. Essays are pretty flexible to whatever you want to write about.
Very good professor, her feedback is probably the best I've ever had out of all my classes. When you receive feedback, you can really tell that she cares about your writing and your betterment. The class itself is like any other English class.
Professor White is an excellent teacher! She explains everything well, the textbook is for helping us to write better essays, she cares about students' opinions and encourages them to speak in class, also she has a great feedback. I really enjoyed writing essays in her class because the topics are 1) interesting or 2) chosen by me.
Prof. White made this class as engaging as an English class could get. She lets you choose your research paper subject, is very involved and engaging throughout every step of the process, and gives really great constructive feedback. I definitely left this class a much better writer than when I started, 10/10 would recommend.
I am in Kathleen's ENG101 online class. She is very unorganized and takes too long to grade things. You have to check the syllabus for assignments. I have never seen what she looks like or heard her voice or anything and it makes it worse because I like to have somewhat of a connection with my teachers
Professor White was an okay instructor. She was very clear about what she wanted and the work load was reasonably light, with discussions weekly and two essays per month. I have not gotten any grades back from her and she is a little flaky. She is a decent choice in educator.
I liked this professor but she gives quite a bit of work each week. There are three essays to read, three+ questions to answer for each, discussions of those essays, you write 1 essay every 1-3 weeks (pretty hard grader on those) and mini lessons to read. Overall I liked her but the class IS a lot of work.
Kathleen White was not a very good teacher. She was very unorganized and I learned almost nothing this quarter. She was rude to me when I emailed her about a mistake she made with an assignment and she also took a long time to grade assignments and she was a very harsh grader. I would not recommend taking her class.
Professor White is a good teacher. She replied my email quickly and always appreciated my work. At first, my grade was not very good (just getting a B-) because I am an International Student and knew nothing about writing essay. However, Professor White always made comments (place I need to improve). I worked hard and finally got an A.
not recommend. You don't need to use the textbook you bought, because you can search for her content online. In addition, the scoring standards are very vague, and there is no specific standard to measure your paper score. In addition, its difficult for you to get feedback from the teacher in time, and she doesnt care about your paper at all
You can imagine that an email can not be answered for a week, lol. Even before the deadline for the next task, this is really uncomfortable and disturbing. The reply to your email has no substantive content at all, and it can be seen that she doesn't care about you at all. If you have a better choice, it is best not to take this class.
This class is great if you just keep up with the 1 weekly discussion post and the occasional essay. My class only had to write 3 2-4 page essays every few weeks. The essays are simple and only took me around 2 hours each max. Shes a super fair grader and will give you a good score as long as you show some effort.
You can't go wrong with Ms. White. She's on your side the whole quarter. Not the easiest class but she grades pretty reasonably. Gives lots of feedback that is helpful in later assignments. Accepts late work up to a week past the due date. I failed last quarter (because i'm dumb) but feel like she makes it her goal to make sure I pass this quarter.
I got an A by .10% I did online only section and it was the worst online class I've had. I didn't receive any responses to emails until the last week of the quarter nor did she grade anything in a timely manner. By the time you received a grade it was too late to improve anything. Tough grader on essays- if you are not a strong writer don't do it.
I learned so much from her async ENGL 101 class, asynch thats saying a lot.
She is very straightforward in her expectations and you can see the course work for the entire quarter on the first day of class. Her grading can sometimes be hard to predict but whenever I reached out to her for help she responded in a timely manner. Love Queen Kathleen <33
LOVED her; I took her for 101 and the Research paper and would take again in a heartbeat! She is very caring and gives great feedback. She also enjoys talking to her studies if you have questions or just want to chitchat for a second. She is a very great lady, just make sure you do your work and you'll be golden.
I took this class online and I really like how available the professor was. She had clear expectations and was always here to answer all of my questions and giving clear and detailed feedback. I would definitely take another class with her. I felt very supported.
Ms. White is just the sweetest teacher! She made it very clear what she was looking for every time, and gave specific feedback for what needed to improve. She wanted to help me get better, not just give a grade. Also a comment on all my assignments, showing she cared. I have her online but she responded to my email within the day I sent. Love her!
Very opinionated in her feedback, but I do believe it was out of the desire to help students expand their writing capabilities. The class comprises three large essays (3-7 pages), 2 feedback essays (peer review and write about it), and a discussion post every week (11 in total). Discussion posts are easy, essays are graded harshly. GRADES SO LATE.
My biggest issue is how messy her Canvas page is. There are SO MANY links on the side of her page, like where the modules and discussion links go, and you never ever use any of them. She makes you buy your own copy of the book for weekly discussions, but doesn't tell you ahead of time. Eng101 was fine but I do not recommend for ENG201.
She was an outstanding instructor. She has given me good-quality feedback every single time I asked her for it. She grades fairly and explains whatever it is needed to be explained. I can clearly see that she loves teaching, and she makes the classes very enjoyable and interesting. I would definitely do another one of her classes.
Literally the worst English teacher out there. Eng 101 was bearable but she had 201 a nightmare. She can't explain to you where you went wrong. Her up-side is that she's good to bounce brainstorm ideas off of but after that she doesn't actually teach anything and relies on peer review rather than putting in work herself.
Although peer review is helpful it seemed to me like she used that as an excuse not to put in the effort she's paid to put in. Grades late and teaches absolutely nothing. Eng 201 was a whole quarter leading up to one essay that she did little to prepare us for. She says we have to buy a book for Eng 201and then doesn't even use it, waste of money.
Pacing was manageable. Weekly discussion posts weren't too big of an issue. She just doesn't teach and majority of the learning you have to do on your own. She seemed a bit unorganized but at the end of the day her class was easier than expected and I only took it for credit.
meh. easy enough but not worth it. probably would not have taken if i didnt need the credit.
Beware of this Professor! She does not give any extra credit whatsoever! Assignments are graded very harshly and in a way that getting one bad grade means your whole grade will drop and never rise. The research paper itself is fine but be careful with the guidelines as they can be unclear and confusing.
Kathleen White was an AMAZING English professor! Many of the essay selections she had us read and analyze have since become some of my favorites. This is very much a learn-through-doing class and instructor. I really enjoyed my time in this class.
Pretty good and nice professor. The assignments are doable and she gives plenty of time to complete each essay. If you want her to review an essay, she will happily meet with you via zoom. Essays are worth most of your grade. She doesn't grade too hard, but she does take a while to give you your grade. Course was overall pretty easy.
She was awesome! It wasn't that much work really and the essays may seem a bit much but she gives you lots of time to complete them. I also finished this class early so I got an extra long break. She was prob the best teacher for this class if you are motivated and don't procrastinate.
Awesome professor was so accommodating and amazing to me. I felt so respected and seen and she made me aware of how I have improved! She is flexible if you reach out and talk to her. Would highly recommend you will improve and read interesting pieces! 10/10 for sure!
80% of the grade was the 5 essay assignments so weekly discussions were basically just busy work. I'm currently 8 weeks into the 11 week quarter and she's only graded 4 out of the 11 assignments we've done so far, plus she has the grade locked on canvas so you can't even see what grade you have in the class. She's not the worst, she's just lazy
DONT TAKE HER. HARDEST GRADER EVER! SHE GIVES PRETTY FAIR FEEDBACK BUT HER GRADING REQUIRES JUST WAY TOO MUCH FOR A 101 CLASS.
There is one week left in the quarter and she has only graded 4 of my assignments. There are 3 essays and a discussion every week. you can get the textbook but literally everything is online. Her directions for assignments sound as if she uses chatgpt. She only grades on grammar and she also will not let you see your overall class grade. Pointless
It's an easy class for content but she grades pretty harshly for a 101 class and takes a while to get grades back.
I stayed engaged, the homework was easy, and she gave great feedback. It's so sad that I am done with the English requirements, or I will take another of her classes. I highly recommend her Expository Writing class. She was responsive to my questions. The assignments were fun.
She doesn't give helpful feedback to help improve your work, she gives you a poor grade with little commenting. She also uses some very confusing prompts for her essays and assignments.
She soley grades off grammar, but threatens you with a zero when you use Grammarly. She very harshly grades on essays (75% of the total grade) with only four essays. She is also a very slow grader. 6+ weeks to grade one assignment. For an English 101 class, I would never recommend her. Not to mention, her essay prompts make no sense.
She gives zeros on essays for using grammarly grades very slow and has confusing essay prompts that are worth 75% of your grade DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Professor gives 0's for using "AI" aka "Grammarly" LOL. False accuses students(not just me) of using AI and gives them 0. Should be fired, and can be if I really wanted to, but clearly she needs the money. Hope she is enjoying sitting behind a computer grading for ages and false accusing hard working students.
Just don't.
Professor White is pretty demanding in her grading, but if you stay on top of the work, the class is manageable. Reach out to her for feedback - she's very helpful. I also found unstuck AI's writing tools to be a lifesaver for essay prep.
