She goes way too fast, and she has a****ty attitude about things. She doesn't like to answer questions...and she does all the problems on the board FOR YOU so you don't really learn anything. You basically have to teach yourself wiht this one.
Wayyy to fast with a bad attitude and te textbook is absolutely vital. This really is a self teaching class, you wont be able to do well by just goign to class
Went way too fast when teaching and tests are hard..very hard.
Very confusing, no office hours, very fast. I took this class in 10th grade and finished with a 98 and now im in the 80's because of her. Its rediculous, I dred the class, cant wait till next semester. The only good parts are she drops lowest quiz and cancels class once in a while.
this was the worst teacher i have ever had. if i had not taken the class in high school, i would have failed. many suprises on tests.
worst math teacher ever! Math is the kind of subject where u need a good teacher or you'll fail....she's terrible...she goes way too fast when teaching...her tests are impossible its nothing like what we do in class.
Horrible experience!! Do anything you can to NOT have this teacher! Ditto everything that has already been said. Save yourself the agrivation. She didnt know anything unless it was written in her notes, and hated answering questions... went fast to avoid them. Run fast!!! Hurry!
Tough, but fair instructor. Learned a great deal due to her extra help after classes. You will get what you put in with this instructor since she does speak english unlike many other math instructors at UB. Some of my fellow students had troubles because the didnt do homework and missed classes. Dont be like them. Overall a great experience.
not organized, moves to fast. she does try to answer question but not very clearly. she is the worst professor i have ever had. i worked hard but it would be next to impossable to pass this class without knowing alot of it before you enter. and that is the way she teaches the class. if you don't know it already then its over, you should just drop.
I had to drop this course after only the 2nd day of going! She moves way too fast. I am so bad at math. I was just like screw this and dropped it. I'll find something else to fill my math requirement..her class is ridiculous.
Horrible teacher I got a D in her precalc class and A's in clac one and calc 2. this shows that my skills were fine to get an A in her class. She doesn't teach and makes her tests as hard as possible. She is the worst I have ever had!!!!!!!!!!
I actually had her for Math my freshman year of high school in Williamsville also. She hasn't changed. Boring and unattentive, with hard tests and no help.
Good teacher. her class was a breeze for me mostly because im great at math, and because i took calc in high school. if u havent taken it in high school your probably better off not taking her for this class. And shes not that bad looking either lol
I'm a good math student and had previously taken calc before taking this. The work is not hard but going into this class without taking calc already might be hard. It's easy to get a good grade especially on homework because she gives you the option to get 100s on them before the semester ends. I really liked her as a teacher she was very nice.
I took her class over the summer but she runs it the same during semester. She is very nice and helpful. If you go to class and do the homework you a guaranteed a decent grade. She is awesome
I hate this teacher, she is the worst teacher ever. I participated in class and got 100 on all my homework. My test weren't bad but she gave me a horrible grade!! DO NOT TAKE HER !! You will regret.
Great teacher, she will help you understand everything step by step. Not an easy class because of material but she makes it pretty easy to get a decent grade. Pretty good looking as well
She is the worst professor I've ever had. She copies everything out of the book, she moves way to fast, and has no interest in the class. She gives 50 questions for homework, yet only grades a few. And she doesn't prepare you for the tests at all. And she barely showed up to her office hours. You will regret taking her.
If you did not take AP Calculus do not bother with her, she expects you to learn things that would normally take about a week in two days.
If you plan on taking this professor I hope you like taking weekly quizzes and biweekly exams. She gives an exam at the end of the chapter which is beyond annoying. Also, she was barely on time for any of the lectures and when taking an exam she did not give extra time if she came late. Hws are online and so is the final. Enjoy all 150 questions.
HW online(a lot), Quiz weekly(so annoying), Exam every 2 weeks(I don't have enough time to review), she's speech is too fast to get the point.
Sorry, I kinda like her because she's nice.. Kinda! Also a little bit of a B**ch and makes you feel dumb for asking questions. She is WAY too fast and has no interest in helping if you're confused. 50 online homework questions due every night. However when you talk to her about anything other than math she's very nice! But that defeats her purpose!
don't ever take this class. She's a horrible teacher speeds through the lecture and then acts like any question you may have is crazy. doesn't care whether class understands or not as long as like 3 people get it then she give a crazy amount of homework and tests overall just horrible
I have never rated a professor, but I had to do humanity a favor, quizzes every week, exams every two weeks, online homework. She says that the textbook isn't required but it will help you. She doesn't teach, she just does examples from the text book for the entire class, oh and an online final with 150 questions. WOULD NEVER TAKE AGAIN OR RECOMMEND
Math is one of my strong subjects, and as long as I did the work, it would have been pretty hard to fail. HOMEWORK IS WORTH 50% OF THE GRADE. As long as you type in some answer for the online homework question by the due date, you can go back and attempt the questions infinitely. Tests are fair and attendence counts.
This teacher is the worst I've ever had. She rushes through the notes and is Horrible at explaining. That class is like military boot camp and she is nothing but an annoyance
She's pretty messy, she assigns HW but when she forgets, she provides 4 topics of HW due in two days (about 50-80 questions). Takes attendance which IDK why, signing in with 100+students. Her exam is pretty fair, just know your stuff. Oh and lecture, might as well throw your textbook since her notes are all from the textbook verbatem.
Its unfortunate i only get 350 characters to rant because i could go all day. If you try and take this class without a prior knowledge of calc there is a 100% you rip your hair out. Her lectures are read word for word out of the text book with 0 clarification of any of it. Expect at least 2 hours of HW a day and bi weekly tests. Shes the worst
It's insane how I forced myself to write this review just because this teacher was so bad. Good person but terrible teacher. Writes on screen in class and is hard to read as well as messy. Weekly quizzes and tests often. Can't explain any problems thoroughly and if you're new to calc, this will be your nightmare. Crazy amount of hw give as well..
Horrible teacher. Very moody and will snap on impulse. Only good thing is that homework is 50% of grade and final is online
She has pre-written notes that she just copies onto a new sheet of paper and shows with a projector. She is AWFUL at explaining things and writes so fast that you cant keep up. If you have the book, don't bother taking notes. Quizzes are every week and the tests are difficult. Also, expect 2-3 hours of homework a day. Homework is 50% of the grade.
Bad professor who doesn't know how to teach, literally a talking textbook . Might as well not go to class. Really easy to pass her class; four exams, weekly quizzes, hw online after every class & a final online (students cheat & anyone can get 100's on the online stuff). Really nice & sweet lady though. She's really pretty and I had a crush on her.
Has pre-written notes and just writes them again in class on projector. Goes way too fast for introductory calculus course for medical majors. Make sure you have prior knowledge in calculus. Also takes attendance.
I didn't like her teaching style, but the class was still easy.
Although attendance is mandatory, her lectures are extremely clear if you pay attention. Not only that, homework is 50% of your grade so that is an easy A if you do your homework. I failed 2 exams and passed all my others and still managed to achieve an A because of homework. Also, the final exam is online so it is extremely easy.
Put wrong question information on hw so you have to do it for a pretty long time and figure it out on yourself. Attendance is required. Speak and write fast. Calculater has to be TI30XIIS or you can not take the exam. Would never take her class again.
She's alright, but she writes really fast and gives 4 hrs of homework and a quiz EVERY week. There are five exams, including the final. The good thing about her is that she doesn't give minuses (no A-, B-, etc.), and the final is online, and there are many chances to improve your grade. Also super hot and her nails are literally the best.
She just doesn't know how to teach. The worst professor I've ever had.
she a great professer yet scary. exams are straightforward-few questions that are worth alot. the final was 150 questions online yet super difficult and on things we barely focused on. notes aren't too helpful. online homework easy and pretty good to understand. quizzes are 2 questions that are kind of hard as there is no solid review. STUDYYYYYYYY
She is one of the worst professors Ive ever had. Her exams are super hard and she is such a tough grader. There are quizzes every week in recitation which gets so annoying. Only good parts about her class is that homework+attendance is worth 27% and the online final is the homework questions so its easy to get the answers from the homeworks.
Awful Professor, dont take her, you'll regret it
do yourself a favor and avoid! You have homework due twice a week evey single week; and a quiz every single week and 5 exams! A class that shouldn't be that hard is made impossible. Her notes arent bad but good luck leeping up with them as she hand writes all of it and moves on as she writes.
I am not the best in math but I try. I'm the type of student who needs a good math professor to do well in math. In prof. Hockadays calc 1 class I found it impossible to understand calculus and her office hours were useless. She also seems not to care much about student. I retook semester after and got an A with a much better professor.
She is a bad professor. She does not teach everything that is on the exam and she writes really fast and will not slow down even when she is asked. She gives an online final which is a 150 questions but it took me and my friends 20 hours and everyone has different numbers and the questions are in a different order. If you get her switch out.
Honestly, she's the best professor I've ever had. She was kind, supportive, and always happy to address any problems I had.
Shouldve listened to the warnings I got from this website and from peers. HORRIBLE teacher. If youre naturally good at math you might do well, but for someone who needs good notes and things explained properly this class is not for you. Shes very unapproachable and makes you feel dumb if you dont understand. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
worst of the worst. you need 96% for A, and 150 questions online final can take you up to 25 hrs if you spend 10 min on each question. It was basically redone all your home works for the semester within the final week. Maybe she didn't realize we do have other finals. Please go take another class.
I ignored the warnings on here and regretting it. I thought she was decent until her 150 question online final during finals week, which took me probably 20 hours overall, and did not result in a good grade. I probably have more work in this class than my other 5 combined and I am a science major. Ridiculous amount of work for a 100 level class.
As a lecturer she is not bad at all, actually one of the better professors. However I think she enjoys seeing students struggle, and makes this class much harder than it should be as she makes a 96 an A and an 88-91 a B+ which btw goes against university policy. The final she gives is ridiculous especially if you had 5 r so other exams that week.
Okay I think she wasn't a great teacher but there is a way to do well in her class. The finals are all old homework questions and you can pull up the homeworks while the final is open and request new numbers until you get the ones that match the one you have on the final. Also do all the hws. I failed every test but 1 and still got a B bc of this
Professor Hockaday was a poor professor. She did very little to help students and seemed like she cared very little. There were no review sheets provided, though it is a very condensed class because we are in "college." Do not expect to do well if you are bad at math or don't want to spend hours doing homework. Do not take online with her like I.
Had to retake her class because she was a horrible teacher and gave NO review sheets. She says we are adults which I understand but my other classes that were level 500 had review sheets. Her definition of a review sheet was just every chapter title that we learned. She done give a S... about her students, almost as if she wants you to fail.
Really not as bad as people make her out to be. It's a hard class and she makes you work for it, but she does help a lot if you just ask her in office hours. Gives decent review sheets and you really need to know them to do well on the test. Study homework and the review sheet. Not bad tests tbh.
I feel pretty nervous about taking this class after reading all the reviews. Idk if she teaches the 121 class differently, but she's not a bad teacher. The final is no longer online. She uploads review sheets. There's a quiz every recitation and 5 tests including final. There's HW every week and as long as you complete it, you can redo it anytime.
She isn't bad. She makes homework 50% of your grade and the tests are easy if you do and understand all the homeworks. Make sure you go to lectures so you know how to do the homework, and it should be an easy A.
If you get this teacher after having a high school calc1 class, you will have a really hard time.
I honestly really like her. Sure I'm practically failing right now but there are opportunities to get your grade up, such as doing the homework and the quizzes every week lmaooooo problem is once you get lost one week it goes down hill from there and its an extreme sport trying to bring it up again. But she's mad friendly and is open for questions!
She goes a million miles an hour in her lectures. Her defense to her failing students is that if they did their homework it'd be fine... except if we knew how to do it, there's too much homework, on average 2-3 assignments a week each 10-15 long answer questions, almost never multiple choice, sometimes multiple parts.
She goes super fast in lecture and sometimes doesnt even address questions or she will say "any questions" then just move on. If you do not go to every class or do every homework you will not do well in class. I have a B somehow but this class has been a struggle. Do NOT recommend this class if you are coming straight from high school with AP cred.
I've had Hockaday for Calc 1 and 2. Avoid her. I survived only because the excessive HW works in your favor due to it counting for a good amount of your grade. Tests are very hard and rarely curved at all. Her lectures consist of her writing a textbook chapter on her iPad while you watch via projector. Rarely attends her office hours.
Awful teacher, don't take her class or do, youll suffer on tests and homework. You get very little out of her mandatory classes
If you can marry calculus and forget about your dog, your family, ans obligations, youll do fine in this class. The topic is a little forky so I get how ppl leave bad reviews. Unless youre President Trump and can come in with no experience and do better than all of your predecessors, this will be a challenging class.
Material is crammed into fast paced lectures and not explained conceptually. Tests are often too long for the time given and never graded on a curve. Some material will be tested two days after it's introduced. That said, Kathlene is nice and homework grades (which you can go back and improve at any point) make it easy to get a decent grade.
I honestly thought people were being mean at first. I went in and she seemed so nice, but do not let that fool you, she is a terrible teacher. The homework is hard, the lectures are boring, no review, no help, nothing. She sucks. stay away at all costs. she gives tests that are extremely hard, extremely often, and provides no chance for improvement
As long as you go to class, its an easy A. She provides a lot of examples to her lessons to make sure you understand the concepts. Her homework assignments can be a bit lengthy but its not that bad.
She is really good. It is just that the TAs werent that great so the quiz grades affected the overall grade. Instead of A+, A.
Calc2 was honestly v difficult but would not recommend it w/ her. Nice lady-baked us cookies even though we all failed, but tests were unreasonably difficult. Lots of homework, all handwritten notes, and you basically have to teach yourself everything because she goes T O O F A S T. And I mean learning the main material of an exam the day before.
Her tests were ridiculously difficult and her lectures were too fast. Also, she was very rude when you needed help
Professor Hockaday usually tends to tels her class that she goes very fast in class and that she can slow down if needed but when needed she doesn't slow down at all. Her willingness to help in class despite her offer during syllabus week. During the lecture, she gives inconsistent examples that tend to misalign with the hw.
I don't recommend anyone taking her. Shes a horrible professor.
A very good professor that focuses heavily on working through example problems to teach. Works quickly but the class is good for self-studying and she is very helpful outside of class. The homeworks are done through webassign and they are very helpful when it comes time to study for quizzes/tests.
Notes are V detailed (lots of examples!), & ur allowed to email them to urself after class. The HW is V informative. U have to get an online subscription to access the HW/TB (about $33). If U study the HW & her notes, U should be good for the quiz/exams! Ur allowed to make up ur HW 4 full credit b4 the sem ends! Exam reviews are also very helpful!
Hockaday is arrogant and condescending. She tends to be rude and disrespectful to students when asking for help. I needed help more because I made terrible mistake taking Calc I and CalcII at the same time with her. Tests are impossible, and graded upon perfection. She took full points of for getting write answer but not showing steps correctly.
Dont take her class. She is a horrible professor. Calculus is not that fun especially taking class with her
DO NOT take her class. She is a horrible professor. Calculus is not that fun especially taking class with her
One of the worst professors I've ever had. She flies through her material for the day and grades heavily on tests/quizzes and gives tons of homework.
As long as you go to her class and pay attention, you are fine. She can seem strict, but if you actually talk to her and ask questions, she can be really kind and helpful. Gave students extra credit for math based Halloween costumes. She can sometimes go fast, but she will email the notes to anyone who asks at the end of class. GO TO CLASS
At first it doesn't seem like a good class but there isn't much better. She is nice a definitely tries. I understand when she gets angry because some people may ask the same questions repeatedly that she already answered. If you do the homework and pass all the tests you'll be fine. You have to put work in but that is expected in any class.
I don't think she is as bad as the reviews seem. Homework heavy. Uses ALEKS - must answer 3 questions in a row correctly to get 100, but unlimited attempts. Grade consisted of 4 exams, homework. Homework didn't entirely line up with lecture, but not hard to understand. Just be ready to put the work in... it is a time commitment!
She's not bad but personally did not like her teaching style. I could have done better but I lot of simple mistakes were made in my exams. You will be fine if you pay attention in class. Keep up with the pre-lecture videos, those were really important.
Good at going over stuff, reachable outside class too, considerate, blah At the end of the semester after you submit the survey, she grabs some students out of her class, accuse them of cheating finals with ridiculous excuses. Academic integrity report, she'll stop responding to you, too. Was A student before so she couldn't fail me or give a D, ha
She is super nice and a great professor! She goes over the material thoroughly, and answers all questions. Gives homework and you have the entire week to do it. The homework is actually useful and helps you grasp the content. I would take a class with her again!
Her lectures didn't really benefit, but she posts pre lectures from another professor, honestly, that's the only way I learned in the class. Her exams are reasonable but her point grading is not fair. Hw grading is fair, if you bomb the exams your grade falls drastically. She can be rude but still have a smile on.
She accuses people of cheating every exam do not take . Will backfire greatly.
Do NOT bother to take a class w/ her unless youre great @ calc. She is extremely passive aggressive, skips steps while going over lecture & then gets irritated when asked to explain + her tests are terrible. No extra credit or curve. Exams are a big chunk of grade so if you flunk them... Goodluck.
I would NOT recommend her to anyone. Shes rude & exams are NOTHING like practice. She accuses anyone and everyone of cheating for no reason. No words can describe how much this class just sucked. Just save your time and wait for another professors class to open up.
Online classes and online exams are very stressful for me, but spending more time on self-study and reviewing the sample questions in the textbook is very helpful for the grades.
Seemed kind and approachable and more than willing to answer questions and believe me she answered many, more than I would have the patience for so I commend her on that!!! Her lectures are great and filled with a lot of practice problems which are done together! Allowed unlimited attempts on HW questions which can guarantee u a 100 HW avg.
Grades depend mainly on the few tests you take. Passive aggressive towards students with questions.
super approachable and engages with class before and after class. material is hard but pay attention and you'll do fine
Attendance is required. It's a math course, so it will be confusing. However, she offers many recourses to aid with tests and quizzes. Mathlab (homework) is really frustrating, but there is infinite retries and has amazing review for tests. Weekly quizzes that are usually okay if you pay attention in recitation. Has nice conversation before class.
The other reviews here quite honestly, baffle me, and I believe that she was a great professor and I actually enjoyed being in her class. She was lively and made conversation with kids, offered A LOT OF RESOURCES (use the practice questions on myMathLab) and was a great professor. Quizzes were graded strict by my TA but exams were fine (lots of EC)
Stephens is okay. Not available outside of lecture times, and goes over examples in lecture expecting students to learn on their own. Tests are harder than the final is, and weekly quizzes can make/break your grade. Dont expect her to show work just answers. Shes nice though.
This was the most difficult class I took this semester, quizzes did not match lecture, exams did and homework was its own thing. Very disorganized and my only non A for the semester, not enough opportunities for extra credit. Calculus not a fun subject to begin with, do not take it with her.
i wouldn't say she is a terrible professor but she's not the worst either. very nice person, she may go too fast during class but the hw helps with understanding the course better. recitations are helpful and the quizzes are fairly easy
I saw a lot of bad reviews but Professor Stephen is not bad at all. She does things step by step and can go into more detail upon request. Sometimes the lessons are rushed just a little but its not too bad. The tests have a lot of weight and some questions are a little unlike the homework so I'd say to just prepare well.
Took an online class with her, very short and somewhat passive aggressive with students when they ask questions, works very fast (often making mistakes) or with premade notes which isnt helpful for teaching students concepts. Easily one of the worse professors Ive had in any college class.
zont zo it. This is an extremely difficult class an taking it with her didn't. The only good thing about this class is its graded by a lot of things, so if you fail an exam, you can still recover. I would recommend taking this class over the winter or summer remotely, that way it's a lot of info in a short time so you won't forget it.
She's alright, honestly really not as bad as most people say. I will agree though that quizzes didn't match lecture sometimes, but personally my TA went over everything needed right before our quizzes so it wasn't awful. Lecture can move fast but it wasn't super complicated and there are lots of resources available to study properly/effectively.
during lectures she doesn't show step by step work and confuses students. I fail the quizzes, then the tests. she makes a review sheet but said "theres material on here that will be on the exam but there is some material I didn't include on the review that will show up on the exam" so then what's the point of a review sheet. weekly quizzes are hard
Take another teacher if possible. In many cases you will leave the class confused. NO extra credit as homework is considered extra credit. The textbook was not helpful at all. One good thing is homework's have unlimited tries, but is not helpful for learning as she leaves out equations on the homework that appears on your quiz.
Going into Professor Stephens class my main advice to students would be to do the practice she gives on UBLearns. For exams use the review she gives as almost all questions on exam are gonna be from that format. Practice, practice, and practice. That's the only way you're only going to get a decent grade in this class. Best of luck to y'all.
One of the most difficult classes ever! She beats around the bush and is not very clear. Shes pretty passive aggressive, the grading isnt fair and theres no curve. Your grade heavily depends on the weekly quizzes. And theres quizzes and exams on the same day. The homework and lectures are nothing like the quizzes or exams. Just dont do it!
50% ALEKS content and 4 tests. Posted lectures aren't necessary to learn the content. Class was 6 weeks (summer) but she gave extra time to complete the work. Big time commitment.
Don't. Awful at explaining bc she just doesn't do it. hella passive aggressive. I took calc with her and it was the biggest mistake ever
If you're going to take MTH 131, take it with Professor Stephen. I love how she always engages with the class before she starts her lecture. She is very clear with directions and how she wants the homework done. You can tell she really cares about her students and their education.
Not good at actually teaching, just does a bunch of problems for an hour and a half straight without actually explaining. Quizzes every week worth 20 points each, multiple homework assignments each week (each with multiple questions, some questions with multiple parts), grade is based HEAVILY on exams. Some homeworks are on things she didnt go over
Awful!!! Take the class with someone else, she is terrible
Does a lot of problems with the class. While it may not be the preferred method of some, it helped me understand the concepts. Also, she was one of the kindest and most compassionate professors I have had. She always answered her emails promptly and was available both during office hours and after class. Always communicated. I recommend her.
Take a class with another professor if possible
I took Calc 1 prior to Professor Stephen's class, but I would still recommend her if this is your first time taking Calc. The lectures are decently easy to understand and she is willing to go back and explain herself a few times on more difficult topics. She is also just a nice person which makes the slightly boring lectures more bearable.
If you're thinking about taking a calculus class for the first time, I'd suggest avoiding her. She mainly goes through notes on her iPad without explaining the concepts clearly. If you have other choices for instructors, I'd recommend checking them out instead of going to her class.
WOW SHE IS AMAZING HI SHIT
not worth it too easy
As a student who took calculus in highschool, professsor stephen is very straightforward with the concepts. All you gotta do is review the posted notes before lecture and you will be set to go. Some students may complain she skips ahead some concepts, but those concepts are the ones taught in precalc/algebra. Her job is to teach calc, not precalc.
Starts lectures with practice problems that she has not taught yet. She then walks around the room and occasionally gets mad if you don't know how to do them yet. I've emailed her many times about important questions and she never once answered. Literally just such an anxiety inducing professor.
She really is not that bad of a professor. Some concepts are hard. It take time to learn outside of class, and it seems like everyone just expects to be learn the basics of calc in class alone. The method of guided notes as lectures can be tough to sit thru for those with short attention spans, and pacing of lectures can be pretty quick sometimes.
Don't understand why her rating is so low on here. Not only is she a great professor but one of the most personable people you will ever meet. I think she gets a bad rep just because 121 and 122 are pretty hard so they blame their bad grades on the professor. Her lectures are very informative, and she introduces and teaches topics effectively.
I'm not sure why Stephen's rating is so low, she's great. The slides and notes she gives out are fantastic and the lecture is well organized. She wants you to do well and her grades reflect that. Despite class being in a lecture hall, she makes sure to go around the class and offer help to those who need it.
Easy to understand the lectures and do the homework. Weekly test easy. easy to understand her lectures. She seems strict, but very helpful. I enjoyed her class.
Guys please avoid her at all costs. She's nice and all but her teaching is super fast-paced and the exams and quizzes are soooooo confusing. I barely survived the first few weeks and noticed people dropped her class like flies. Be prepared to spend lots of time if you want an A outside of class. The hw is also frustrating!
While she definitely knows what she's talking about, Professor Stephen goes at a relatively fast pace during lectures. The homeworks are frustrating, but there's unlimited attempts which is nice. Exams and are HARD and sometimes include material not on notes or review. Get another professor for MTH122 if possible, but don't stress if you get her.
Professor Stephan is a good professor who lays out the material well. The hw is easy and you just have to take time to do it. While some days are more confusing than others, the hw should clarify the material. There are quizzes every other recitation and the exams aren't too bad.
worst professor at UB. she does not know how to teach at all. she makes concepts more confusing and just assumes you know your stuff. her TAs are really bad too. homeworks are nice but she does NOT prepare you for the exams at ALL. pacing during lectures is criminal - if you do not have a sharp mind you will not understand anything. please avoid.
That's my first best professor at UB. Most enthusiastic person I ever met. Her classes was full of talking between students and professor. She always came through everyone to check how are they doing and if they understanding a new material. She is always open to help. I wish all professors at UB and other universities could be like her.
Too difficult on grading and explains material poorly.
The lectures can be tricky, but staying engaged and practicing the review problems is key. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for me - it helped me prepare for exams and stay on top of the weekly tests. Not the easiest class, but doable with the right approach.
She's a nice person, and you can tell she tries to make class fun/more engaging for her students, but that doesn't make up for the red of the class. the homework doesn't correlate whatsoever to what is on the quizzes, and the three exams are extremely difficult. the review she gives is poorly formatted and doesn't apply to the what is on the test
Difficult course but I felt as if she did not prioritize key concepts. She would sometimes talk about unrelated things at the beginning/middle of class, ultimately detracting from the difficult lectures. Not bad, not the best, no hard feelings if anyone from MTH 122 is reading, but I personally would have done things slightly differently.
Terrible professor.
These comments r weird. Her quizzes are lecture notes are usually but with different numbers. If you pay attention you will do great. use homework to get basic understanding but dont study it for exams. Her math reviews are GOLDEN!! do them a million times over until you know the steps. Took an exam today!!
The ratings may be low, but she is an amazing professor. The difficult coursework requires more effort from students, which is part of college. You can't blame a professor for that. Everything is OUTLINED, and she provides extra help videos to support your learning, so you don't need to search online. js do your hw on time dude, you'll be fine
Dr. Stephen is a solid professor, always jovial at the start of class and throughout. MTH122 is pretty easy to pass, given the amount of forgiveness they offer on exams, and the fact that HW is 20% of the grade. My only gripe w/ Dr. Stephen is when she walks around the room during practice problems, and gets triggered if you aren't doing them.
Prof stephen deserves a higher rating imo. She's good in lecture, and if you attend you should do fine in the class.
She does not teach, she just does problems and expect us to follow along. She never fully explains what she is doing, its like she purposely makes things incomprehensible. I would not have passed if I relied on her alone. The homework often does not match what we are taught in class. I was late on 5 hw assignments because the due dates werent given
She doesn't record lectures and it honestly feels like she skims through the lessons and expects you to understand what she's saying. I'm already bad at math, and having her as a teacher made me feel even worse. I even got called out once for trying to take a photo of the board with my phone. And I also remember got ignored after raising my hand.
Professor Stephen is a really sweet person and a solid teacher. She was very helpful and even came around to each person during lecture and looked over our question, and I think that's quite rare for a college professor. She made succeeding in her class very straightforward with an emphasis on practice than getting everything perfect.
